Anyways, I realized it’s been a good while since I drew one of the cities 🤔 so it went and did that with Juneau, I decided to also try out doing line art for the first time in a long while as I was at it; and I’m proud of how it and the colors came out!! Tho it took me almost 9 hour 😠 why

I’ve been wanting to design Indiana for some time!! This one is likely to change because there’s simply something off, unless y’all really like it 🤔 I took inspiration from the native people of Indiana; did yknow thats where Garfield was made/takes place?? That’s so so baller. My girlfriend thinks he could be a train conductor cuz of the state motto, so that’s awesome sauce B)

Juneau is the least fan ever for words first thing in the morning.. absolutely agitates them, makes their head hurt 😠 Augusta has certainly tried gesturing and miming (very… not the best at it) to not ruffle Juneau, & Juneau probably has quite the record for grinding their teeth to not scream or hold back frustration (especially cuz of those many little rituals).

Also maybe there’s a little bit of selective mutism in Juneau. Because im clearly not projecting and I obviously have no personal experience with that 😼

Augusta part came from @crazedstoryteller and I’ve been thinking about it for awhile cuz. Cuz. Yeah. They should go camping together, it’ll be horrible

I hear that Homer, Alaska has an opossum, and despite it being invasive, the people want Grubby elected.

Thoughts on Grubby for mayor?

Yeah yeah Grubby isn’t actually Mayor but we Alaskans love making animals mayor. They’re much better than people; but from what I read Washington sent a thing to Alaska and Alaska found the opossum in it. He’s only known Grubby for 5 minutes but if anything ever happens to him he’d kill everyone and then himself

Some Juneau & Augusta Hcs cuz they’re literally best friends or something (long list I think)

Juneau works at saloons (very popular) but mostly for fun. They find people to be interesting and also can handle a fight (I’ve been told panhandle folks are rather feisty— mostly historically tho, since they had Tlingit warriors and knew how to fight, hence the Battle of Sitka)

Augusta thinks Juneau is weird but Juneau thinks Augusta is weird (they are both weird)

both of these fellas being the second capital of their state sometimes feel like they need to live up to the former capitals glory (Sitka and Portland)

Juneau is a great storyteller (tlingit & haida culture has taught them well)

Augusta’s favorite snack/dessert are s’mores

Juneau’s favorite colors are red and black

Sitka was Juneau’s technical caretaker back then

Augusta thinks Juneau is too reckless and picks on them for it

Juneau feels disconnected from people and Augusta is pretty sure Juneau looks at her and others like she’s a strange bug

Augusta can’t ever remember how to spell Juneau’s name so she just spells it like “Juno”

Augusta knows more French than Juneau (since Juneau also is familiar with French Canadians, being ‘founded’ by them)

since Juneau is not accessible from roads Juneau is the strange onlooker of the capitals. Everyone thought they were creepy, but Juneau doesn’t really care and has no comment on that

Juneau goes barefoot just about anywhere and any time (old tlingit tradition) so Augusta got them flip flops even tho they barely use them

Augusta has orange-yellow eyes. Because I said so

Augusta is so unfathomably silly !! Look at that award-winning smile!!! Top three silliest, you wouldn’t even know… you can tell she silly cuz she speaks in full caps always (unless Juneau’s having a day and needs some quiet… she will try) 🫶 I realized with how much I post about Juneau, Augusta had yet to be the spotlight!! So she must shine

It was her idea btw.. Maine gave her stickers and she went CRAZY with them, and she 110% says snazzy. I don’t make the laws here folks

Looks like the little one (not itty bitty young alaska) underestimated how tall Alaska’s Auntie is 🤔 I don’t actually have a design for the fella. I just use an old design I made cuz idk 🤷 but surely Ajak needs the rest! Couch/sofa sleeps are a different breed btw they hit very different. Anyways her heart is very busy worrying for Alaska and the little one a lot… I’m sure it can be very exhausting u_u also, I associate her with Wild iris flowers, or bristle-pointed iris, which are purple! At first it was just an association because when I go on my walks I see so many of them, but they also symbolize wisdom and respect… I think Ajak is very wise, I met her myself trust me y'all

(Ax K’eek’ means “my younger sibling” btw) Maybe I forgot to elaborate, but u see when I say the Christian missionary schools and such ruined huge parts of Alaska’s culture and people I mean both Russians and Americans, they both did that to Alaska, so they’ve gone thru it for so so long. I imagine they took Juneau, and from what I read once kids aged out of the missionary schools they’d send the native adolescents to boarding schools in Oregon and Oklahoma, and in my head Juneau at those times was probably physically rather young. So Sitka and Alaska could not find them easily, unfortunately 😔

perhaps their horrific experience may be why Juneau really is uncomfortable with venturing outside that isn’t BC or Yukon, (in Alaska terms the “outside” means anywhere out of Alaska) and also their ritualistic behaviors skyrocketed out of anxiety (from what I read anxiety and stressful events cause them to get worse) anyways 😼 I’ve had these thoughts for awhile, I wanted to get them out

Y’all ever get like this 🤨??? I’m sure humans get like that, I would know. Also Juneau and Augusta has been in my head always lately, yall can’t blame me. Sometimes Juneau just needs a soft day or something! They could watch movies or whatever (Augusta probably introduced Juneau to Ghibli movies and they got obsessed)

Red is their color, because I said so. I made Juneau’s.. idk what they’re called. Moles, I think, I’m not a skin expert; To be the three points of the Alaska Triangle, which is Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow), Juneau, and Anchorage (for those who don’t know, the Alaska triangle is like the Bermuda Triangle but Alaska) meanwhile I’m still unsure what colors and animals I associate with Augusta 🤔 but I hope to explain these two’s designs eventually because I did think and read a lot while making them

I like to imagine every time these two get away with Augusta’s schemes, Augusta likes to joke it was cuz of “Juneau’s pretty privilege”; so much so she sometimes nicknamed Juneau as “Pretty Privilege” to tease them, and cuz I think it’s silly funk and Juneau likely got used to it fast

I also like to imagine Juneau sits straight too much and Augusta probably has kicked them (not too hard, she’s not THAT mean… she’s a sweetheart, even, never committed a crime in her life you can trust her) in the stomach to get them to chill out and sit on a couch not “awkwardly and too formal” she says (she was correct btw. Because once Juneau relaxed they were knocked OUT)

Also this is just some simple stuff cuz I’m busy this week doing volunteer work and I’ve never interacted with kids and children before (don’t ask) so it got me exhausted but I don’t mind, the kids are lovely!! And I’m learning how they work, and I think I’ve been doing a good job so far B)

I’ve been thinking about this. I’ve been. These two being buddies means something to me.., did you know in 2016 Juneau officially changed their name to Uno (based after the card game) for April Fools?? That’s actually funky and silly I like that. And Augusta is also called Artgusta (she probably likes puns and lame jokes by the sounds of that however I choose to imagine they crack Juneau up 🙄) but I forgot why but I’m sure it’s hinting pretty obvious to why, but I like to imagine some people still call Juneau as Uno sometimes to make my soul happy

Btw in my head since Juneau is a fashion capital for Alaska (I think it’s to include and preserve cultural clothing I can’t remember) also it’s pretty easy to consider that fashion isn’t really the thing thing for the state of Alaska when you have to think about the wilderness not killing you all the time, so Juneau wears makeup… sometimes, not really a priority or a routine, just whenever they feel like it ☝️ Light makeup probably, I don’t think they’d like the feeling of lots of material on their face. They get to feel pretty when they wanna tho, who’s gonna stop them.

However I imagine Juneau doesn’t really feel passionate about anything 😔 maybe Augusta can help them with that tho, find something to obsess-ish over 😼 they’re buddies after all

Trust me when I say this happened ☝️‼️ besides I’m sure Alaska was a little confused that there were more fruit than just berries, which is like the only fruit that grows in Alaska’s nature (Juneau can NOT identify a fruit from a vegetable 🙅 never ever)

Most normal instances of animals in Alaska (Alaska cries when he watches nature documentaries and the animal in focus dies)

I also like searching random things up. I already knew Alaska’s military presence was pretty relevant (especially after Japan’s invasion on Alaska and the Cold War) but I ain’t know it was, like, more than the average state I guess, cuz i meet a ton of service folks and kids of them so i assumed the amount of people i met was a normal amount until i visited the lower 48 like a few years back and was surprised by the lack of military youd see (depending on the state atleast im assuming) idk I don't really have the energy to make an hc outta this one tho, you guys go do that if you wanna

Random things that I know

I’m currently on a road trip, so I didn’t have much time on my hands to draw much but I do have a small wip and old sketch I did! Along with just talking about random ideas and things that I know. Which. I mostly did a bunch of research on Delta Junction, Alaska as you will be able to tell soon

I passed by Delta Junction, and I remembered that they are the city with the most Ukrainian born people in percentage, it’s even higher in ancestry as well! This is because DJ has very similar terrain and climates to Ukraine (I think??) along with the fact there are already many Ukrainians there, there is not much of a language barrier for them! That’s neat :> So I wanted to make DJ as Ukrainian, and this is just one design concept I came up with today too quickly, it is likely to change as I learn more (I don’t have a definitive answer of what gender I’m thinking them to be yet)

also I think DJ would make BANGER cream rolls. Because I know this lady that lives there that comes to my city every summer and sells cream rolls; she’s done this ever since I was little

Alaska is the windiest state, with a windspeed average of 30 mph; in Juneau they have winds called Taku winds, and in DJ they have winds called Chinook winds

DJ was also known as the “Windy City” and “Little Chicago” by soldiers stationed there, as DJ is big on the military presence stuff

DJ is a very quant and neat place I won’t lie. They have buffalos there sent from Montana!! They now roam a lot around the Delta area, most are within the Delta Bison Sanctuary; I like to imagine DJ tells Alaska to tell Montana the bison are prospering

Colorado has a coin collection due to being the worlds top producer of coins (I think that’s cool)

Cali didn’t know what mosquito repellent was or was a thing until he overheard Maine and Alaska talking about them and asked about it, the other two were horrified he didn’t know (this is a tease cuz my girlfriend didn’t know it was a thing until I asked if she had any once)

This is an old sketch of a character my girlfriend made! She based them off Mexican culture, specifically this is based on California’s Lone Star flag from way back when

I think DJ loves the idea of having a family, but the opportunity has simply never been given 😞

Talkeetna was considered abandoned in 1910, before getting revived in aboit 1920 thanks to gold rushes, I think she is a little afraid of being abandoned again tho, but she knows Mayor Denali would never do her dirty like that

Hawai’i and Alaska both have the best air quality out of the states, they’re seriously breathing that great non lower 48 stuff. They are prospering. Manifesting.

Louisiana is actually one of the most, if not the most (it changes per article but they remain one of the top 3 always) stressed states, along with Mississippi and New Mexico

uhhhmm this is all I can think of currently. I hope y’all can wait for me to get back home to post regularly again 👻 that would be cool.
