visually, the film is stunning. the thing about doctor strange films is that the film production is absolutely allowed to go ham with the cinematography. mystical shit, bitch, absolutely weird. it was why the first was my favorite, and why i anticipated this one (probably not as much as i did for nwh, but what can i say lmao spiderman funny i am tired college freshman epic !!!)

like some of my favorite shots or scenes were definitely homages to horror films. the reflection/mirror dimension parts going for the ring, and the tunnel chase scene being what i think is an homage to the shining (?). a lot of those are scattered throughout MoM, and i thought those were really cool. thank u mr raimi

plot-wise? not good.

wherein the screenwriters, evidently,:

did NOT pick up on the nuances of stephen and christine's pre-canon lovers-to-friends arc in his first film

surely, only solely watched the what if? series to put in the concept of strange feeling more romantic love than he actually did in the mcu (to be fair, ol' cabbagepatch really sells it well, it's the VA expertise in him)

did NOT watch wandavision,

OR took away from it the idea that wanda only became a... questionably redeemable villain. yknow, after she took down a witch who would only hoard and harness her powers to herself without the guarantee of westview being set free

ignored the fact that wanda herself imposed seclusion and self-exile after westview, because That is how she learned to let go and so that she wouldnt hurt anyone anymore

DEFINITELY ignored the fact that people like monica, darcy, and jimmy acknowledged that she was at the peak of her grief, and knew she was ultimately good underneath all of that

kinda forgot about billy and tommy's powers, and how if they had used them against the scarlet witch in defense by the end, it would likely still make the point they wanted it to

uhhh once again denied a character who has suffered throughout her life even the tiniest sliver of a redemption arc OR real mental help that can be talked about. she doesnt visibly come out of there alive, there's no small seconds of her facing justice but getting proper healing and adjustment that she needed. they literally said that the darkhold (if i am spelling it right, edits abound) corrupts the user. ok, and as the scarlet witch, a literal nexus being, one of the most powerful people out there, couldnt be given the chance to gradually overcome that by the end?,, what is the point of establishing her as a key figure if she justs becomes the big bad to be vanquished at the end of the day?

also lol skipped over mordo being "the guy that tries to kill doctor strange every now and again", like he didnt have a large role in the first film

and many other weak points that may come to mind later on

so, basically, you mean to tell me that throughout all of wanda maximoff's life in the mcu, she never gets another channel for her grief, and that is how exactly she dies? her story doesn't become one of those that essentially say, you get to carve your own destiny and your position or actions or whatever people say dont make you completely evil. no, no, it doubles down on the fact that she's a wicked woman, or turned into one because she lost her kids.

also its crazy because.. idk if it's the angry wanda stan in me right now just after watching the movie, but i cannot remember what stephen's role was. was his arc set on becoming the guardian and mentor for america chavez? was it another lesson for him on how actions have consequences and so does his pride? or was it solely hinged on love and want for christine? hm. he's the titular character.

great cg tho thats what im saying, and all these actors still bring all theyve got to the table despite the weak script.

honestly, way back at the beginning before more details of the film's production were announced, i thought mordo would be the antagonist. y'know, because they alluded to that in the first film's end credits scenes AND because he just is in the comics. like he'd do something or find a way to fuck up sorcerers and magic in the multiverse, because he literally said "no more sorcerers" or smth like that after his disillusionment with the ancient one, so it would be up to a doctor strange/scarlet witch teamup to stop him. and ofc wanda and stephen could have their debate on who's more villainized and why, but still have them be on the same ground. you would expect wanda to be tempted by mordo, with the promise of her children or universes where she's with them and her husband and her brother, but she wouldnt be the total rushed villain and redemption would at least still be on the table. stuff like that, yknow.

so did i enjoy it? kinda, yea. a 6-7/10

would i watch it again? only for the sheet music battle scene because i want to properly hear the soundtrack to see how it fits the moment.

henry and sammy used to be on better terms. they were pretty good friends! ......until sammy cast Friends. and uhhhhh its kinda a manipulative spell!! which when it wears off, the person it was cast on becomes hostile. it was NOT supposed to be a serious moment, but aha..... henry sorta maybe killed a few lost ones with an area spell he cast at sammy. which uhmm. did not help the situation. so things have been tense!! for a long time!!

heres a bullet pointed list of grievances aka a loose summary of the campaign. its very long so under the cut

to preface, the dm and i roll "control checks" a lot of the time to determine how much someone overreacts and uh. henry rolls chronically low. the dice do tell a story, and unfortunately its one where henry is mad a lot of the time

the first time sammy cast friends was so henry would give him the seeing eye tool thing so he could see what henry was writing. it wasnt worth it, henry wrote like "never alone" or something boring like that. a fight broke out after the spell wore off (susie stepped in on sammys side), people were knocked out, low control check led to lost ones being killed (and subsequently revived when sammy woke up. very VERY cool scene that im still obsessed with)

the second time was when they got out of the studio the second time, and sammy cast friends so henry wouldnt follow him back into the studio because he needed to coughkillcough joey to give his soul to bendy to make him a perfect toon AND to give jacks soul back to jack. it worked, sammy went in, saved jack, fixed bendy, and came back out to a very upset henry.

uhhhhhh sammy and jack were still inkfected when they left the studio so they were detoxing at henrys house for a bit and sammy (as Prophet) locked jack in the closet (which plays into jacks fear of being alone since yk he drowned alone in the sewers) for the coup from back in the studio (LONG story) and oops he got in trouble for that and henry locked him out of jacks room :( he was very sad and everyone was mad at henry for separating them so after a family meeting (minus the inkfected) henry begrudgingly let sammy back in but only if he got tied to the bed rip

and ahaha jack kinda untied sammy and they ran away for like two weeks. it was fun, henry's still upset about it

on that same note when wally and susie found them they went back to jacks apartment cause going back to henrys would be a bad idea since hes upset. and uhm. long sequence of events ended up with a very out of it sammy casting the ink spell.....on all of jacks blood. they um. needed to get a high level cleric to save him cause he nearly died. so uhm. henrys really mad at him about that (even if sammy was literally not in the right mind at the time, since he was in the throws of detox)

sammy actually kind of agrees with henry and doesnt think he should be forgiven for what he did to jack. but literally 24 hours after sammy got better from the detox, jack proposed. and he said yes. SO NOW HENRYS MAD AT JACK FOR PROPOSING WHEN HE SEES WHAT SAMMY DID AS UNFORGIVABLE.

and SINCE henry sees sammy as his son hes even MORE mad and it feels like some sort of "personal betrayal" when its literally none of henry's business.

obviously sammys mad at henry for being mad at jack because back off dude so he tries to go and talk to him and. uh. a conversation escalates to an argument and due to a low control check henry throws the first spell. linda, susie, and bendy get involved in the fight (the latter two on sammy and jack's side). susie and jack manage to knock out/cast Sleep on henry and linda respectively so that nobody (aka sammy) gets killed because YIKES he still has the lowest hp of the bunch and henry is VERY powerful.

linda wakes up first and shes like wtf guys and sammys like SORRY but in our defense your husband attacked first and etc etc they go downstairs while linda stays in the bedroom to try and calm henry down when he wakes up in a few hours. a few hours pass. henry wake up and is PISSED. he goes downstairs to yell at sammy some more and sammy rolls low on a control check and uh. kinda maybe draws his own blood to turn into ink and force henry to drink it so he learns what it feels like to be out of control.

obviously this goes. badly. the gang (minus the steins) fucking dips out soon after and go to jacks apartment to wait a very scary 12 hours until henry has finished the detox since it was only one sip. but uhhhh henry escapes from his house and goes to sammy and may or may not hold jack at knifepoint so sammy is forced to cast the ink spell on some blood again to give to henry. also bendy is here and hes drunk (long story). so henry takes another sip BUT sammy manages to stall him in the apartment long enough for linda to come and tie him down again lol. which is progress. but aha in the process of tying him down henry stabs sammy oops

etc etc they wait for the ink to wear off and sammys really freaking out cause he knows henry is going to be PISSED so he tells jack to take a drive so hes not at the apartment while the fight goes on, yk, to protect him. well SOMEONE rolled low on luck and jack got into a car accident and hadn't yet added sammy as an emergency contact so GUESS WHO DIDNT FIND OUT UNTIL MULTIPLE HOURS LATER. by which i mean henry woke up cast Inflect Wounds on sammy which knocked him out for a few hours and NEARLY actually killed him. it was like 4(?) damage from full on death.

so thats how the hospital arc started uhhhhh. jack is fine now he just needed some surgery. some heart surgery too because cough turning his ink into blood kinda messed up his heart who wouldve guessed cough. sammy was originally just a visitor but his stab wound started bleeding through the bandages on like the fourth day there and he got admitted lmaooo. wally roasted him for it. anyways at one point sammy went to get stuff from jacks apartment and took a quick detour to henrys house to have a breakdown in front of him because jack kept on rolling low on medical luck. henry, finally having a heart, felt bad and they sort of reconciled which was very sweet and cute because god henry its been two weeks since you stabbed him you didnt even check up on him or jack.

etc etc sammys liver failed because i rolled REALLY low on medical luck so he had to get a transplant. from SUSIE. the dm rolled for compatibility and honestly she was the funniest outcome. i think she got a nat 20 on it. she has complaining rights i love her.

something very funny that we decided on is that when sammy is loopy from anesthetic/strong painkillers he is simply Prophet. why? rule of funny next question. which meant for the two ish weeks after his surgery it was literally JUST Prophet. the nurses thought he was weird. so did jacks parents (MY BAD).

so henry visited Prophet every day because hes really good at "Prophet handling" and it was for the best. except. when prophet woke up after the transplant, henry had what started as a very nice conversation with him. until henry admitted that he liked Prophet more than Sammy, and told him to not tell anyone. nothing happened then, because he was talking to prophet. but after henry left prophet immediately "called" (rolled religion to contact him) bendy and told him. and bendy was like 😬 well happy for you but yikes. prophet gave him the memory of the conversations he had with henry in order to give to sammy whenever he came back because prophet felt as though he had the right to know. later that day he told jack. and even later he told Kate (the magic specialist on his case). so UH. everyone knows that now. except wally and susie ig but they'll find out soon enough.

the next day it was finally sammy time again cause he was taken off painkillers and jack immediately told him what prophet said and sammy called bendy to tell him he was back and bendy gave him prophet's memories and OH NO sammy took the motive behind sending them the wrong way. he took it as prophet wanting him to know as a way to rub it in (when thats not why prophet shared them). and on top of that he just feels betrayed by henry because UGH he just started trusting him again and now he finds out that the only reason henry even cares about him is because henry cares about prophet and sammys just a side effect????? screaming and crying. he kept on pretending to like henry so henry wouldnt catch on that he knows. AND sammy asked kate later to compare how often henry came in when he was Prophet vs now that hes Sammy and turns out he comes to visit way less often im going to sob

so yeah thats whats going on with them

also last post of the night. story-time, my spanish teacher is fucking crazy ahaha. actually this is hard to explain nevermind but shes weird ;-; and said the r-slur like 6 times in class today, got in my face and said some uhm. some weird shit. she leaned forward onto my desk and said “i am sexually-aroused” i guess it was some sort of example? shock value? she didnt really explain what it was about and it made everyone in class uncomfortable,,, nevous laughter. and has just said a lot of weirdly explicit things. showed me a weird video of an animated rabbit dying(gruesomely) in a snare trap after saying it was cool animal show that she thought i would like based on the fact i showed her some funky animals(chevrotain and elephant shrew) idk shes weird and she kicked my older brother out of her class, wouldnt explain why, and then said he wasnt allowed to take any other spanish class with a different teacher? been there for years and is very keen about gender roles. she preaches a lot in class and its like- 7am. i got kinda smartass-y and said “wow u should quit your job teacher and go be a motivational speaker somewhere else or something” and she took me seriously and it went to her head and she does it even more now despite the fact that everyone is visibly annoyed and uncomfortable. She said that nothing ive worked for in other classes took any effort. phones poison brains. the school system poisons brains. and says that its not our faults we’re stupid,, but never criticizes her teaching. overall sorta racist but in a good-intentions, horribly ignorant, type of way. belittled my gender identity a little bit. and made me climb up onto a desk and put a lizard in her ceiling today. said it would die if it went outside. she also raced a kid in the hallway and slipped and hit her head(more like fucking ate the tile flooring) last semester. there was blood everywhere i cleaned it up qwq. the video was funny ig

he’s so confused why a cat is following him to school

he stops crouches and picks up the cat and thought of bringing it to the shelter bc it looks so clean,,, someone must own it yk

but when you realize you are being sent to the shelter you screeched and clinged to him like a mad cat

the terror on the cat’s face terrified Yaku the same,, he concluded it was abused or smth so he proceeded to bring it to school with him

the school patrols were by the gate so he did his best to hide you inside his bag,, which thankfully worked since you were small enough

during vball practice, Yaku kept looking if you were alright by yourself with his things and when he looked there you were

meanwhile Lev lowkey wanted to jump on you and give you a big ol hug since he loves cats so much but Yaku had that taken care of dw

his heart was broken not knowing what to do with you

Kuroo suggested him to just bring you with him home if he rly didn’t have the heart to leave you alone like this

on the way home, Yaku went to buy food for you in the convenience store and you noticed the sky was getting dimmer o no 6 more hours till midnight you gotta step up sis!!!!!

you started flirting with him in front of the cashier clinging to his neck like a spoiled cat lmao the cashier even told Yaku the cat look so in love with him

and what were the odds he were right

Yaku’s mom was kind enough to let him bring a cat in the house,,, even said that you could say and of course you’d love that but as a cat???? you’d def rather as her daughter-in-law idk

that night Yaku was just hanging out with you on his bed, talking about things that happened,,, and his worries for the vball team since they’re about to graduate soon

“i dont wanna leave them behind,, they’re like my family. Kuroo’s an ass but he’s been one of my great friends, Kai too. Lev’s a pain in the ass but he’s a good kid. Kenma’s shut off but he’s really sweet when he’s sincere with his feelings. Fukunaga doesn’t speak much but he means well.”

and he’s opening up with rubbing your head and the spot behind your ears,, and you just stayed like that,, you never left his side and he really loved that part of you

but then you felt the change happening

you looked at the time and it was almost midnight,, you needed to leave

Yaku was asleep so you wanted to leave as quietly as possible your body was wrapped around his arm!!!! you needed strength to get out!!!!

he woke up but you went straight to his window and oh no it wasn’t opening with your puny little paws

Yaku got up to open the window for you absentmindedly and you just yeeted yourself outta his room,, he was shot awake and left the house immediately to see if you were alright

ofc you landed perfectly with your kitty reflexes and ran straight ahead to where you first met the the big crazy cat you wished from

but Yaku caught you

as yOU WERE ABOUT TO TRANSFORM BACK to what you were supposed to look like

and oh no since you’ve transformed back you wouldnt be able speak to the big crazy cat anymore,,,

the spell is removed

and Yaku saw all of that happened

“y/n???”

you wanted to tell him that it wasn’t what it looked like,, but what in the world would he expect it to be??? you couldnt speak since you were swallowed by the humiliation

“are you okay?!”

“you jumped off from the second floor you could’ve hurt yourself!”

this sweet boi,,, isnt even fazed seein a cat shapeshift into a human girl

it was late af and Yaku doesn’t have any choice but to let you stay in his house for the night,, sis his mum was shook to see him bring you home

she asked you where your parents are

and you said they’re out of town at the moment,, which clearly was a lie since there was a substitute of yourself back there

see, their house dont have guest room,,,,,,

so yuh,,, its a sleepover

he asked you so many questions about what just happened and you honestly answered every single one of them,, especially the part of you feeling as if you weren’t wanted in your home
