Whisky & Women

En février je l’avais annoncé, on va parler plutôt whisky et mieux encore : on va parler Whisky & Women.

Jusqu’ici rien de nouveau, je suis une femme, j’aime le whisky (et même les trucs méchamment tourbés), et je ne suis bien évidemment pas la seule !

Mais ce mois-ci j’ai eu l’occasion d’assister au tasting « Whisky & Women », organisé dans le cadre d’une œuvre de bienfaisance, l’ « Audacious Women Festival ».

Let’s start...

Comme son nom ne l’indique pas forcément, l’événement était mixte - enfin avec 4 mecs pour une vingtaine de participant•e•s, on était quand même plutôt majoritaires - mais il était en revanche animé par des femmes qui font, ou feront, l’industrie du whisky.

4 « kick ass women » qui nous ont parlé de Whisky (évidemment), de sexisme, et surtout de leur travail loin des stéréotypes genrés dont l’industrie est si souvent friande.

En maitresse de cérémonie, Justine Hazlehurst aka KaskWhisky, qui en plus d’organiser des tastings et des événements autour du whisky à Edinburgh (merci pour l’accueil btw) et d’écrire pour Malt Review, est également co-organisatrice du Fife Whisky Festival (on y reviendra).

Elle était ce soir là entourée par ses 3 passionnantes invitées :

⁃ Louise Mc Guane, fondatrice de The Chapel Gate Irish Whiskey, qui après avoir passé une quinzaine d’années dans de gros groupes de spiritueux a décidé de lancer sa propre marque pour redonner ses lettres de noblesse au whiskey irlandais. Et croyez-moi, c’est bien parti !

⁃ Heather Nelson, fondatrice et distillatrice de Toulvaddie Distillery. La distillerie encore en cours de construction sera la première distillerie officiellement lancée par une femme en Ecosse (quand je vous dis kick ass).

⁃ Lora Hemy, distillatrice en chef chez Atom Brands, que l’on connaît notamment pour leurs Gin (« Spit-Roasted Pineapple » tu resteras mon préféré 😍) et leur magnifique gamme d’embouteillage indépendant « That Boutique y Whisky », qui nous raconté comment elle avait préféré le whisky au parfum (oh yeah!).

Ca tombe bien, nous aussi ;)

Un line up taillé sur mesure pour l’occasion et un gros coup de cœur pour l’irlandais (le whiskey ;)) : J. J. Corry The Gael, un blend avec des notes d’agrumes et de menthol, légèrement épicé en fin de bouche, un régal !

En bref, une soirée inspirante et aussi, je l’avoue, un peu rassurante quand au même moment Johnny Walker sort à l’occasion du 8 mars une version au packaging « féminisée » de son célèbre Black Label, le Jane Walker, qui devrait selon eux, inviter les femmes à découvrir le monde intimidant du whisky...

Alors rassurez vous parce qu’en fait les femmes, elles sont déjà là et elles n’ont eu besoin ni d’une bouteille avec un nom féminin, ni d’un packaging rose ou à paillettes pour aimer ça.

Et à l’image de Justine, Lora, Louise ou Heather j’espère qu’elles seront de plus en plus nombreuses à faire vivre et à faire aimer le whisky !

Glengoyne 12 is one of my all time favourites. I fell I love with the entire range back in 2012 when I visited the distillery. I hate to admit this but I love the old packaging in comparison to the new, which is why I’m reluctant to finish this bottle 🙈 anyone else feel the same?
