this poll is for any FFXIV WoLs. you can only submit one, i'm sorry, but we're accepting all types! dps, healer, tank- whatever you got, we'll take it!

As the WoL Tournament gets underway, I ask that everyone remember that behind these Warriors of Light are real people, many of whom have invested years and tears into making their Warrior of Light special and unique. As the tournament winds through the brackets, someone is always going to be left disappointed, because that is the nature of competition. I ask that we do our best to make certain they are not left hurt, as well.

Every single one of the 64 Warriors of Light who had the guts and the drive to enter deserves to win. Every single one of the 64 Warriors of Light who are putting themselves out there to a faceless audience deserves your admiration and your respect. Even if their aesthetic doesn't jive with your own; even if you don't quite understand their motivation, remember that to them, their Warrior of Light is a part of them.

So cheer for all of them. Congratulate all of them. Love on all of them. And remember that every single one of them deserves to win, even if the nature of the game means only one will.

I think you're all awesome, and I'm excited to get to know more about your Warriors of Light. Thanks for having the bravery to stand up and show yourselves to the world. <3

Congratulations are due for one Huge Beef! @isayoldbean A well deserved victory! It was a pretty close race the whole time. Be proud of your wondrous accomplishment!

Also Chuchu will 100% be taking you up on the piggy back rides.

A big thank you to @woltourney for holding the tourney! It was amazing to be able to see all of everyone's amazing characters and learn about them! I've even made some friends along the way :^) I also wanna say that I'm proud of Chuchu for making it to the finals! What a well loved little pink creature! I might start actually posting on @chuchuchura after seeing the support for her and how other WoL based blogs actually run and what they do content wise.

I think Naru is behind enough now that she won't really be catching up in her poll in the @woltourney so I wanna use my last little 'propaganda post' to just say thank you so much to everyone who voted for her and and this was just really fun all around.

It was a blast learning about others OC's and getting to know them, I feel like I made some really cool new friends through this process and I've enjoyed getting to toss asks at them. So I'm gonna toss a few mentions ...

@boileddogchicken I really loved getting to know br'sh during this tournament and not only is br'sh super cute and cool, brsh's mun is super sweet and incredibly funny and a delight to have on the timeline

@lookbluesoup im so glad I found your blog, I believe I wasn't following you prior to the tournament and the past few weeks I've enjoyed learning about your OCs and getting to send u asks !! You're a real delight to see on the timeline

@trans-estinien we've been moots a while but it was really great seeing you post eluetherios art for this tourney and I wanted to mention that!!!! I loved seeing it

There are so many more friends and people to mention, but I will resist from tagging so many people (mostly BC I get nervous of bothering ppl)

There are so many people who posted so many amazing things about their OCs and I was just really glad to get to see people's passion for their characters come out, see people sharing about their characters !!!!!!! So thank u woltourney for this nice little place where people came together to ramble and scream happily about their OCs!!!

I got to post a lot about Naru and it made me very happy and reminded me about how much I love sharing about her on tumblr especially, so this tourney has helped me feel comfortable just.. lore dumping sometimes lol

And to @isayoldbean here's an early congrats!!! Beef seems so cool and I've really enjoyed reading about her. I believe you posted about a possible beef/minfilia fic and I really hope I manage to catch that and read it!

IT'S TIME FOR STELAK PROPAGANDA.

First all, enormous thanks and a great big hug to @woltourney for organising this and giving me an excuse to show you all my lovely boy. 💜 I don't talk about Stelak nearly as much as I should!

Mr Ganzthuv will be appearing in Match 9 of Round 1, Side B! It'd just about make his day if you'd show him a little love when his turn comes around, and I'm here to tell you why you should. ( b ._.)b

(Obligatory thirst trap to open. We know what's important here.)

Stelak's a cheeky guy who doesn't embarrass easily and likes having fun where he's able, and as you'll learn when his matchup comes around, not only is he an accomplished bard and a WoL, he's also a whore! And yes, he's still taking on jobs while he's saving the world. 👌

Whoring is Stelak's main line of work and he enjoys it a lot; he takes a great deal of pleasure from making people happy and his clients, for the most part, are all lovely to work with. And he's good at it! Why would he ever think to do anything else?

(It should be mentioned, if you were thinking of hiring him yourself someday, that Stelak only services men. And yes, trans men are men, trans women are not, etc., etc., of course, obviously.)

That said, as exhausting and stressful as the work of being the WoL is, Stelak can't complain about the travelling it's seen him doing. He's met all kinds of people and made all kinds of friends, and for that he's enormously grateful. Given that he doesn't remember anything about who he might have been before he woke up in the back of that cart on the way to Gridania with nothing but a name, the clothes on his back and a robust set of instincts and principles, Stelak is sincerely delighted to have so many people around him whom he can rely on.

It is, after all, very difficult to keep going sometimes when the whole world is relying on you all the time.

Stelak has grown a little more attached to some of these friends than others to say the least, but you'll have to find my AO3 if you want to learn more about that. 👀 Ahem. Anyway.

Anyway.

Unlike whoring, being the WoL is difficult, taxing and often deeply miserable; preventing one catastrophe seems to achieve little but to make room for the next one, and being recognised by anybody only serves to make them all the more comfortable in making yet more demands of Stelak's time and energy. As such, he's often very tired and sometimes very sad, but at the end of the day, no matter how worn out and fed up he might be, Stelak will always dutifully pick himself up and go where he's needed without complaint (or at least, without complaint while he's still within earshot of the people telling him where to go.)

The work needs doing, and if not him, then who? What would happen if he didn't show up? He doesn't like to imagine.

Thank goodness he doesn't have to do it alone.

It would be easy to say that Stelak does all of this for the love of his friends, and he does, but he also does it because it's the right thing to do, and doing the right thing regardless of whether one will be rewarded for it is what makes the world turn, isn't it? That one might get to meet all kinds of fascinating people and see all kinds of wonderful places is just a happy accident, and one that Stelak is all too eager to embrace. The world's an incredible place, it turns out, and now he gets to see it all!

This, too, Stelak is grateful not to be doing alone. 💜

One might be tempted to assume that Stelak would be keen to find out who he used to be before he arrived in Gridania, or at the very least that he'd be interested, but truthfully, he couldn't care less. For all he knows, he might not have existed at all before that moment; for all he knows, Hydaelyn might have simply plucked him from the aether for convenience's sake, or out of his bed or his bathtub or from some other place, but none of it matters so much as who he is now, who he's going to be in the future. Stelak's experiences have changed him even in this relatively brief span of time; who knows who he'll be next week?

"Ah, but sister - you have not heard the new tale we've been telling the children!"

A look of horror dawning on her face, Shio looks between her brothers, eyes wide.

Putting on the voice of an orator, Soroban speaks, as if reciting a great epic.

"And lo! Embarked upon a ship of iron, the Tide-Pearl rode the storms, driven by the Lord of the Revel!"

Shaking her head, Shio sighs. "No. That's not the tale I want told of me."

Crouching behind her, her brothers wait, patient and silent, for her to speak again.

"The fisher cast her line, so far it could not be seen by Kojin eyes - and hark! Instantly it was beset! The line went taut, and the Littlest Kojin was fighting the sea-beast!"

Taking over, Kabuto lets his voice echo from the water, deep and booming.

"And the sea-beast was mighty, the mightiest monster of the deep! Full thirty fulms long, with gnashing teeth and rippling fins! Every lash of its tail could capsize ships, its every meal scores of fish!"

Soroban spoke next, his voice with the gravitas and weight of long training.

"But the Littlest Kojin is the mightier fisher in this or any sea! Once hooked, no sea-beast can escape her! Planting her feet, she heaved on the pole, shimmer-blue in her hands - heaved until the skies rang with her cries!"

Shio joins in to conclude the tale, her voice salt-roughened and less resonant than her brothers'.

"And with one final mighty shout, the Littlest Kojin pulled one final time - and the sea-beast was pulled from the waves, its monstrous bulk blotting out the sky! As the scaled body landed on the sand, shaking the cliffs, the Littlest Kojin broke into a grin and laughed - long and loud. With this, she could feed the whole Ruby Sea for a moon or more! And so, she was satisfied, and settled in next to her catch for sleep."

thank you, everyone!

sorry that this was so long in coming! i got absolutely flattened by some health issues for a few days, but i can't go any longer without wishing a very sincere thank you to everyone who has enjoyed learning about beef and who supported her on her journey throughout the tournament!

i'm gonna be honest, i don't really know what to say here--i didn't expect to win. i never suspected i'd even get to the finals, and then once i did, i expected chuchu to kick my butt. i even voted for them too! so the fact that i'm sitting here making a post about being crowned champion of the inaugural @woltourney is a bit difficult to wrap my head around.

everyone's wols were so great and so obviously a reflection of their creators' love, and i truly loved meeting each and every one of them! i also hope to continue to learn about them even after the tournament if y'all will allow me to. it was really so much fun, i'd love to do this again some time!

again i'm mostly just overwhelmed that this many of you loved my girl so much that you ignored me asking you not to vote for me in the finals lmao... i guess that means that in a way, she doesn't belong to me anymore. she belongs to all of you. she's in all of your hearts, giving you terrible advice, and i think that's beautiful.

i'd like to give a special shoutout to @spaceace144 for a well-fought final round and who is a co-winner with me in my heart, to all the other roegadyn wols out there--both those in the tournament and outside of it--for the loving warrior's bond we all share, to the friends we've all made over the course of the tourney, and for the tournament organizer(s?) who i know must have worked really hard behind the scenes so that we could all have such a silly fun time like this!

thank you all again for caring about my horrible woman who means so much to me and has helped me out on a personal level more than i'd probably care to admit. and i look forward to meeting the next round of wols whenever this tournament may happen again! until then, please keep beef in your hearts and may you all continue to have many wonderful adventures with your own wols!
