okay so i've been listening to the dorohedoro manga soundtrack for a while now, and my morning has been a little hectic so i decided to just ramble about all the songs and what/who i associate them with, and also which songs from the anime ost they remind me of (since the anime ost is very much inspired from the manga ost)
WARNING: DIABOLICAL LEVEL OF YAPPING BELLOW, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!!
you can listen to the songs Here if you haven't, and i'll be going by this order, since thats the official one
Redacted, Recalcitrant, Repressed - khost: this one in my head is literally curse/risu theme and you cannot convince me otherwise Ever. Man Inside The Mouth from the anime ost is im pretty sure inspired from this song too so it All just makes sense. also the title itself reminds me of risu and the way he is and whatnot (im so shit at explaining good lird) also this is me just being insane but i think the voice of the guy singing KINDA fits risu more (the deeper more monstrous voice sounds like curse in my head too), like i love his actual voice too but when i read the manga i definitely dont imagine him with it i expected something more raspy(?), meanwhile aikawa being the one with the smoother voice (his raspy voice fits too giving that Kaiman and yadda yadda) Dont ever let me talk abt risu drhdr bro i dont stfu
Blaka Smoko - VOODOOM: i love this song so much but kai's stupid fucking face pops up in my head when i listen to it and i DONT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH IT!!! though yeah uh this is pretty much either his song or the cross eyes in general since the lyrics are "i sell black smoke"..though the deranged laugh really reminds me of him solely. imagine a version of the drhdr manga where black smoke is like weed and they smoke that shit and get high i Think thats rlly funny i dunno what else to say tbh i think me associating the song w kai is preventing me from having too many thoughts about it. However i hope when he like shows up fr (not just in flashbacks) the anime ost makes a remix of this song cuz it genuinely fits (also i just love how this song directly mentions nikaido and kaiman, although a bit nonsensical given the context)
Dorohedoro Zombie Slushi - Candie Hank: im so certain 1000手観音 and another song (i cant remember which one) from the anime ost sampled from this one lmfao. anyway this one just reminds me of zombie ebisu, or ebisu in general. not even like living dead day, literally just zombie ebisu. its probably the vocals tbh, someone in a youtube comment was complaining abt them and another person replied "just imagine ebisu singing it" and i cant get it out of my head now. i can totally see her sing this song, especially knowing shes canonically interested in the manga ost album  (you can see her read the songs of it while checking it out in like episode 4? i think? the one where they follow doll risu around and end up in some cheap clothing store)
Eating food and fighting Wizards - Shitwife: this one makes me very nostalgic, i like how its one of the few songs that isnt just pure nonsensical chaos. like i love those too, infact im bummed out the anime ost doesnt have more chaotic songs given the manga is literally incomprehensible sometimes, but i like how this song kinda shows the more coherent and cheerful side of the story. of course this is just kaiman theme to me, i mean the title and all. i think kaiman would really like this song, he would def listen to it. it also reminds me of that scene where him and nikaido are driving in their motorcycles, it gives the vibe of a drive in the middle of the night to me anyway, not much to say for this one too, i just think its really nice (also the drums go crazy hard)
Enter the Hole - NAH: lovely magic predecessor LOL. perfect for me honestly cuz lovely magic is my fav song from the anime soundtrack. This one just reminds me of hole, i dunno. the brief ethereal part reminds me of the past of the hole though, before the lake of refuse was created (i forgot what they called that shit in the official translation forgive me..lake of refuse sounds cooler either way). thats all tbh
She is a devil - Hanali: devil nikaido theme song what can i say...i literally want this song beat for beat to play at the scene where nikaido grows her devil tail and gets devil high (if they even animate season 2 that far) either that or when theyre selling gyoza at the department store and she goes devil high again and starts beating ass. its so perfect for those scenes also i like to think the distorted singing at the very beginning is like what humans hear when a devil sings, i know it should be more ear bleeding giving the reaction everyone has in canon but whateva!!! also also i like to imagine nikaido was probably hearing something similar while her tail was growing and she was going crazy, i think maybe hearing the singing of devils in your head while slowly turning into one is a cool idea
LIZARD HEAD - Dr. Das: i cant lie this ones...a little boring for me. like the beat is cool and all, but i think this is the one song i have the least to say abt. to reference another youtube comment, they said smth abt imagining kaiman fucking around in hole to this song, and yeah. i see it. i think if the anime animates that little bonus(?) comic abt how kaiman spends his day in hole, they should use smth similar to this song
Transformations - Shackleton: ok i lied this is the one i have to say least about. i dont mind 10+ minute songs, but damn this ones even more boring to me. the pissing sounds arent helping either LOL. though i think if they had to play this song somewhere, or a variation of it, maybe it fits best at the part where kawajiri is making nikaido do the devil exam in his house or whatever...idk....
Dorohedoro - Igorrr: ALRIGHT BACK TO YAPPING. this song is so fucking good, dare i say its my favorite of the whole ost. and im not the only one, everyone seems to love this one. its literally just TIC TOC predecessor but even better. the classical music and opera singing inserted into this absolute chaos is insane and i cant think of a song that fits shin more honestly. like this is literally shin theme. it perfectly mixes his calm and rational self with the deranged outbursts he has. ive heard people say shin is a boring character and i genuinely cant wrap my head around it like HELLO...not only is his design just cool as fuck, but he has such interesting personality? my boy went through absolute hell and grew up from an aggressive and snarky kid to a calm and if i may say, empathetic guy. like he cares about the people around him, he was carrying three guys (one with his fucking mouth mind you) that passed out because of the rain flooding the underground basement. he refuses to kill people who are weak with magic, and generally doesnt really like going on killing sprees unless its a life or death situation (which since kid has made him go crazy, i like to think its probably cuz it increases his heartbeat and being a human+sorcerer maybe doubles the adrenaline this way). also the way he has inhumanely high pain tolerance, he can have his guts splattered on the ground and still manage to walk, to the point it even weirds EN out. like you gotta be some freak to get en concerned for you (or be kikurage lol). sorry this turned into a shin rant more than the song itself, i just cant believe so many people dont see how cool shin is. like hes not even my most favorite character but i will protect all the drhdr characters i like (which is most of them). anyway moving on
The Hole - Ghengis: alot of ppl say they think of hole (the place) when they listen to this song, but me personally?this song screams hole the entity, and artificial devil kai. like this song FEELS like its oozing with the sludge and that feeling every sorcerer that gets in contact with hole "magic" feels. i like to think the headaches they get is equivalent to the beat of the song LOLL. like just super loud and painful pulsing headache that can leave you paralyzed on the ground. anyway, i dont have that much to say, i just want this song to play at the central department store arc, OR. when artificial devil kai is first shown thas all
Don't Think, Just Kill - Roly Porter: i lied again this is the one i have least to say about. sorry. literally my only thoughts are that one of the songs playing during the living dead day episode is inspired by it but i frogor which one
Kaimans Head - Dead Fader: to compensate the fact i mightve lied once again im gonna ramble about something mildly related. so the one youtube upload i found of this song uses this one fucking risu fanart that legit makes me shit my pants. its honest to god the scariest freaking fanart ive seen of a character i like. its not like Shiver me timbers scary, its just so unsettling to me, like WHO COOKED THIS UP. WHO DREW THIS. i know hayashida would love it. she wishes she made risu this scary and not the catboy babygirl beautiful princess with a disorder she created (/J). anyway uh, this song goes pretty hard, i like it, i just dont have much to way besides that i like the beat maybe. also heres link to the youtube upload with the picture if u wanna know what im talkin abt
Radio 538 - Dow Jones Brotherhood: because the first time i listened to the songs was on youtube, i found this song pretty much last and uh. i dunno its cool! for some reason it reminds me of the cross eyes? ive no clue why it just does. it reminds me specifically of how all of them are basically just worshipping some guy half (if not most) of them havent even seen the face of. i like how the whole thing is basically just a cult. people built statues of the boss, tattooed his face on their hands so they never forget it, And the elites...oh those poor little guys. closest to the boss and got psychologically tortured with killing thousands of sorcerers daily and left to deal with the incomprehensible shit their boss does, while slowly building suspicion and disgust towards him, but unable to do anything because of how far theyve gone into this. like can you imagine how miserable dokuga and tetsujo must feel knowing their devotion to kai led to all their friends killed. id just die bro this is so fucked... anyway, kewl song👍 i love the cross eye elites
Stay down zombies! - Ed Cox: i honestly love how lowkey dramatic this one is. ALSO the accordion tune from el corazon is im pretty sure taken from this one! which makes two shin references yippee!!! i like how this one kinda mixes calm music with breakcore (do not erm akshually me on this one i dont care), just like how igorrr does. i dunno its just a cool song, though PERSONALLY i dont think it fits living dead day, it reminds me more of that scene where shin remembers his mothers death, and then slowly turns into a zombie. it gives off that vibe giving how the song progresses from dramatic and a bit somber, while the beat starts creeping in, accompanied by the accordion that i literally will never not associate w shin in general
ANYWAY WOW THATS ALL!!!! if even one person bothered to read all this, thank you. i love yapping about dorohedoro i love silly manga about a bunch of freaks and freak stuff and i am obsessed with hayashidas taste in music, knowing she picked all those artists cuz she likes their music makes absolute sense considering the kind of art she makes. i love you q hayashida im your biggest fan. also if you notice any grammatical errors pls remember english is not only my second language, but i also barely slept last night so that's my excuse

➷ Sunday, 12:12 p.m.
"-and the commute was just too much. I'd have to get up at, like, five just so I could reach campus on time, you know, and most days- most days I couldn't go back home after working at Smith's for so long, so I just ended up crashing at my ex's place, or sometimes at my best friends place." you say, your hands articulating your point, gesturing in the air as you sat on a couch chair that really had no job being this comfortable.
you smile nervously at your hosts. they seemed nice enough, you suppose, but you felt like they were seizing you up, like an animal up for adoption, trying to weigh all of the pros and cons of living with you.
the one on the far right of the couch - you think his name is Connie, you're not sure - has his forearms leaning on his knees, observing your every move, every blink with a slight squint in his usually large eyes. the one in the middle - had you seen him somewhere? - was doing the exact opposite of his room mate. his back was supported by the back of the couch, sitting himself as comfortably as he could, arms crossed over his chest. he had a blank look on his face and you noticed his jaw clenching and unclenching while you spoke. his eyes didn't leave you. from the moment you had stepped into the apartment with a small box of donuts from your shift at the café, he had not stopped looking at you. you were sure he probably didn't have eyelids because you hadn't seen him blink even once.
the only person that provides you any sort of comfort was the one sitting next to him, wearing a light brown sweater that covered his arms up till his elbows, the sleeves bunched up. he smiled gently at you, nodding at your ten minute long rant and if you knew more about him then maybe you'd assume that he was trying to calm you down.
"that sounds tiring," he says. you wave your hand infront of your face with a shrug and a smile. "it wasn't that bad until the start of this semester with the workload and stuff," you say.
the other two hadn't said anything. honestly, it would've been better if it were just you and marco talking, that way you would've been considerably less nervous.
the one on the far right took a breath, finally speaking up. "can you cook?" he asks. that's the first time you heard his voice, and it's a little surprising, but not as much as his question.
"Connie-" marco starts, but Connie jumps to his own defence. "what? she should be able to take care of herself!"
the one in the middle - you assumed he was jean - rolled his eyes. "we all know that's not why you're asking." he mutters, but it's loud enough for everyone to hear. "is that really all you think of me?" Connie retorts, putting a hand on his chest. marco raises his hands placatingly, trying to say something but it's, again, cut off by jean's (you wonder if anyone in this apartment has the freedom of speech), "I try not to think about you at all."
"after everything we've been through?"
"we haven't been through any-"
"what happened to being together until the end?"
"guys, please, not no-"
"we are not engaged,"
you clear your throat. the bickering is not bothering. if you really think about it, it reminds you of home, of a life before college. it's a little nostalgic, but you have to get back to your shift at the café in an hour and you really didn't have the time to allow yourself to be entertained by this.
"the apartment is great," you say. the three of them look at you, stopping all bickering immediately. jean clears his throat as well. "thanks." he says.
"how do you know she meant it for you, jean?" Connie says. there's a small smirk on his face, the one that you have when you willingly mess with noor.
he struck gold - jean clenches his jaw tighter, if that was possible and it strikes gold again.
you know where you've seen jean. it's not really a one off thing, but you know you've spotted him across campus, carrying a coffee that you made earlier that day, sporting a hat over his ashy blonde hair. you'd spotted him at the bus, sitting in the back seat, with his head propped up against the window, headphones on his ears. you spotted him in the graphics studio, clicking the mouse and tapping on the keyboard of the spare computers as you sat far behind him, glancing at what he was working on.
you didn't mean to be a stalker, really, but it was inevitable that the two of you crossed paths considering the fact that you had a couple overlapping lectures in the same parts of the uncomfortably large campus.
jean was the beautiful stranger.
you blinked, keeping that information locked up in your head. what he didn't know wouldn't kill him, and he certainly did not need to know about how you'd been trying to seek him out on campus, trying to see a familiar face that would bring you any sort of ground over the past few months.
glancing at marco - who looked at you apologetically - you looked back at the other two, still bickering. marco shook his head, getting up from the couch, inaudibly prompting you to do the same, leading you to the kitchen.
you weren't kidding when you said the apartment was great - it was spacious enough to feel roomy but not cold and empty. every corner felt like it had been lived in, like it had been breathed on, like no cleaner could ever remove the marks of the smudged fingerprints on the walls. you hadn't had the time to decorate your own apartment, if it could even be called that, making the space a little less livable than you'd have expected from yourself.
"I'm sorry about them," marco starts, looking at you with the same expression he had been sporting the entire time you were there. you laughed softly and shook your head. "it's okay. I'm used to it." you say.
marco doesn't press further, smiling gently himself. "I'm glad you liked the apartment," his eyes glance over behind him towards the narrow hallway that leads to everybody's rooms, "we don't know how many more room mate applications we'll get, but you're a pretty strong candidate up till now. considering, you know, you're our first one." he says. his wording makes you feel like it's supposed to; a business interaction, and you're reminded again, how this isn't your home. how you're a stranger to them and even if their banter made you look back to earlier years, your rambling probably hadn't done the same with them.
you nod, smiling politely. "thank you. im glad you think so."
➷ Sunday, 7:59 p.m.
"oh my god a dog? how old is he? do you have pictures?" noor asked, her brown eyes lighting up with excitement. you laugh a little, shaking your head at the questions.
"i don't have pictures cause apparently the dog - polo, by the way - is being babysat by Marco's friend. said he didnt want to have polo running around cause he thought I'd get overwhelmed." you said, shrugging, "he did ask me if I was allergic, though."
"wait, so, that's it? besides freckles they didn't even talk to you? Baldy asked you if you could cook and emo mullet barely spoke to you? that's it?" noor asked, taking a sip of the coffee you had given her. the two of you were waiting for the bus, the sun having dipped a little more than an hour ago.
"i mean... I don't blame them. they barely even know me." you say, rolling your shoulders to try and get rid of the tension in them.
noor sighed. "yeah, but that's the point. they're supposed to get to know you and make sure you're not, like, a creep."
"I'm a creep, I'm a wei-" you start singing, making noor join you with a laugh. "I'm a weirdo," she sings back, her tone changing down with the "o" to mimic the infamous Radiohead song.
you share a laugh, shaking your head. "I'm just glad that something's happening, you know? like I did something to move out. I tried, and that counts."
noor nods decisively. "yep. also this coffee fucks, what is it?"
you smile widely, proud of your own creation. "it's a new thing I tried. strawberry goes surprisingly well with coffee," you say, "and cinnamon."
"god it's amazing. you have to open your own cafe one day,"
"i mean I didn't invent the thing,"
"still." she insists, opening the lid of the cup a little to smell it, humming afterwards.
she didn't have to do this. waiting with you at the bus stand wasn't even supposed to be in her routine, but it somehow got added there without your permission. her dorm was walking distance from the campus, near her department, too. she called it a great deal, and you agreed, so she really didn't have to wait for the bus with you. but she did.
you were glad to have her. you didn't have anyone besides her, in all honesty. her shoulder had always been comforting and warm to lean on, ever since you had met. she left you with smiling lips and a full heart at the end of the day. senior year of highschool hadn't been the kindest to either of you, so you made up for it by being kind to eachother, and for noor, you were sure that it came easy. it was easy to believe that she could replace the sun because she had replaced the sun for you. she replaced all meaning of the world by just holding your hand.
and the world agreed, you were sure, because her smiles attracted so many wonderful people. some not as much, but she seemed to attract beauty everywhere she went. she became it.
sometimes, when you were actively trying not to think about how cold your bed felt, you thought about how you would not be surprised if she talked to you less. not in the sense that you didn't trust her, of course not, but in the sense that she could have the world in the palm of her hands. why would she elect to hold your palm after that offer? and trying not to think about this only led to thinking more about this, more about everything. but now was not the time to do so.
no, because you had things to look forward to. because noor was sitting beside you, despite the cool late january air with the warmth she provided. she smiled as she told you about how she had a film assignment that she was looking forward to because she had so many good ideas. you leaned back and listened to her like your life depended on it. maybe it did.
➷ Sunday, 8:17 p.m.
"got a new applicant." jean said, swallowing the bite of breakfast-for-dinner eggs that marco had decided to share. the latter stood near the stove, one hand on his hip and the other in the air with a spatula, waiting for the pancakes to cook, checking for bubbles near the edges like Jean's mom taught him to. marco hummed. Connie leaned over to jean, peeking at his phone, trying to see who texted about the apartment. jean furrowed his brows with a slight scowl, hiding his screen from Connie's eyes, who pouted dramatically.
jean tried not to laugh at his expression, but a small smile slipped out anyway. "his names floch," he said, not acknowledging Marco's little whoop of excitement after flipping his first non-burnt and perfectly golden brown pancake.
"ugh. i know him. hes such a know-it-all." Connie says, waving his fork in the air. marco sets the plate of almost all burnt pancakes (except for the one) in the centre of the table. "don't speak with your mouth full, con." he says.
"you think everyone's a know-it-all. have you considered that maybe you're a little dumb?"
"I'm expectionally smart." he says, sitting up straight.
there's a small beat of silence.
"did you mean exceptionally, connie?" marco asks, pausing from cutting his pancake.
another beat of silent.
jean snickers.
Connie rolls his eyes. "whatever the word is. i think we should choose the girl that came in today, if you guys even care."
jean glances at him from his plate. "we should decide that after going through the applicants."
marco nods. "yeah, we should give it atleast a week or two."
Connie sighs. "okay, but Im pretty sure she's the one."
jean drops his fork on the table, having finished his plate and leaning back into the chair. "seriously? you didn't even talk to her-"
"i did!"
"you asked her if she knew how to cook and she didn't even answer. how have you already made up your mind?"
Connie shrugs. "she tolerated our argument."
"it was barely an argum-"
"not a lot of people can do that." Connie says.
"you guys can get loud," marco says.
"that's what she said." Connie mumbles with a small laugh. jean smiles, covering it up with his glass of water.
"she did seem pretty nice. but we should still wait for other people. who knows?" marco shrugs, "maybe we'll find someone better."
"well, whoever you two decide on, just know my vote's going to be a no if it's not her." he says, leaning his head on his palm, his elbow against the table.
"why are you rooting so hard for a person you barely know Connie? just because she's pretty?" jean asks, equal parts curious and suspicious.
Connie smirks at a joke jean fails to understand. "sasha knows her, I'm pretty sure. her name sounded familiar but then I called sasha about it, and she said she works at Smith's with her."
"so basically you're on her side because of neo-nepotism?" marco asks with a small smile.
"i dont know what that means, but yeah, probably!" Connie agrees, a wide smile gracing his face. "besides," he continues, the smile now turning into a small smirk, "jean thinks she's pretty."
jean sits up straight, his jaw clenching. "when the hell did I say that?"
marco sighs, gulping his food down.
"literally just now when you asked me why I was rooting for her. you admitted that you thought she was pretty." Connie says. jean really thinks he's fucking with him. some times, jean can't tell what goes on in his friend's head, a gap that's bridged by sasha and marco. but the former is currently in her own small apartment with her boyfriend, and the latter is too busy shoving food into his mouth and avoiding jeans eye.
jean sputters. "i think all women are pre-"
"okay slut," Connie mutters.
"I'm not a slut, will you stop calling me that I am not a common who-"

hi :) can you do "fear factory" from donkey kong country please? also i have a question about something i'm not sure if you can help me.
i'm looking for a certain type of music, or soundtracks with a certain type of vibe. something more than ambience with a melody, but usually more toned down. the type of music that i guess people would describe as "chill" or "nostalgic" maybe. like it's there and nice to hear, but generally i think it's supposed to fade into the background.
idk how to explain it, but i think it's supposed to be unintrusive but still fill the silence, which makes sense because i usually hear them in management games, especially indie ones. less like a mood and more like actual song? with actual progression and what nots. a lot of acoustics and generally on the slow side. a few examples would be like "build your ride" from park beyond ost and "home sweet home" from a little to the left ost.
idk if you have any ideas but i figured it doesn't hurt to ask. i don't even know if i'm making any sense lol. it's funny, i felt like they were all over the place but suddenly when i want them they're nowhere to be found. when i search everything that shows up is just nintendo this and stardew that... which is fine, but not really what i want... teehee
I'm thinking of something that's not distracting but also not boring, and where the appeal of the song is evenly-spaced so you're not tempted to just keep rewinding to your favorite part
this is one of my favorites that fits that bill that also probably doesn't come up in chill / cozy comps
youtube
a lot of my other suggestions would be nintendo stuff since that's just a lot of the games that i'm attached to, but i think i can give you better results from those games than those search results which probably just gave you a lot of animal crossing music
everyone who's played pikmin 2 already knows and loves this song but just incase you haven't:
youtube
some people might get bored with this one but i like the piano melody and i think there's something hypnotic about how empty the song gets after that, there was a stretch a few months ago where this was my go-to bgm whenever i was doing work
youtube
this one gave me a nostalgic feeling even when i first played this game 5 years ago and had no childhood memories with it or anything;

hey mei, what are your top 10 favourite video games?
1. Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild - Loved everything about it!! The graphics are stunning, the gameplay is amazing, and the story is easy to understand without playing the other games. I have Tears of the Kingdom, but for some reason, I prefer BOTW much more. Also, the soundtrack is absolutely amazing beyond words!! The one that plays whenever a Ruin Guardian spots you sort of gave me PTSD. Whenever I hear it, I can't help but look towards the source of the sound, get up, and run for my life.
2. Ghost of Tsushima - Everything about this game is a 10/10, but I really liked the combat in particular! There are so many ways you can kill someone, from silently assassinating them to poisoning them to beheading them. Even after the main story, there are still so many side quests and content that are just as fun. Jin Sakai is also very cool and I love how he abandoned his honor as a samurai to protect the people.
3. Eastward - Definitely a must-play if you have a Nintendo Switch. The graphics are unique and colorful yet also somewhat mellow at times. The music is great. All of the characters are so fleshed out and lovable. Not to mention the amount of content in the game, where you have at least one other game inside of it. There's the Earthbound(?) (I forgot what it was called) game inside of the arcades which I still haven't been able to finish to this day, and the Octopia DLC (Really cheap by the way, it was 20$ last time I checked) which is basically a whole other farming game.
4. Honkai Impact 3rd - Of course, HI3 is one of my favorite games. The gacha is very generous compared to other games, the rewards are really good, and the rest speaks for itself. Just the story alone would be enough to make it into my top 10. Story aside, I really love the characters and their designs. Their designs reflect their personality perfectly and all of them are just so lovable. Watching Kiana grow up so mature within only 2 years gives me such an odd feeling. I'm so proud of her, but at the same time, where has the "cheerful idiot" Kiana gone? It feels like only yesterday I was playing through the story and she refused to eat the meal Durandal gave her because there was no one to remove the bones of the fish like Mei usually did.
5. Stardew Valley - Call me basic, but I really fell in love with everything about this game. The music in particular makes me feel so oddly nostalgic. I also have a lot of good memories associated with it. It's one of those games that I play on and off but always end up enjoying no matter what, especially with the use of modding.
6. Dead Cells - Loved it! The combat is so fluid, the monsters are all so unique, the animations are so smooth for a pixel art game, and everything about the gameplay is so enjoyable. I'm a sucker for these types of games, honestly. I sadly haven't had the time to play it for a while now, though...
7. Subnautica - I'm not sure if this counts because even though I have a copy of the game, I've made almost zero progress on it. This is mostly only on my list because I'm a really big fan of sea exploration stuff. I was also particularly obsessed with the idea of making the Cyclops fully self sufficient.
8. Minecraft - I had such a big Minecraft phase back then. I would wear merch to school and sing those parodies thinking I was so cool. No wonder I didn't have any friends during that period of my life. Still, I actually wasn't able to buy the game until like... 2018. I think this would be higher on the list if I had people to play it with and if I could recover my account for it.
9. Animal Crossing : New Horizons - I was obsessed with it during the pandemic, but nowadays I play it on and off. As much as I like the older games, being able to freely place furniture outside is life changing. It's also way easier to change outfits because you can actually see what you're wearing. Not to mention, the graphics are way cuter.
10. Osu! - I got into it because a guy I liked did and ended up becoming better than him. I mostly.played standard, but mania was also fun from time to time. I was ranked at around 4 digits before I had to stop because people were complaining that my keyboard was being way too loud. I just didn't have the money to get a new one at the time, so I ended up deleting the game. Really fun, though! There's a mode for everyone.

Beacon Pines
Tumblr media
Beacon Pines is a little narrative with a non-linear story where you will have to go through different branches to reach the “happy ending”. It's an unpretentious game with a really simplistic gameplay, but which gives you a very pleasant time thanks to its atmosphere and its characters.
❤ A really charming artistic direction with very colorful decorations and characters drawn with a lot of expressiveness. ( ⬇ that reminds me of a fishbowl kinda xp)
Tumblr media
❤ The mix between the naive and innocent side of the characters and the more creepy and anxious moments that works well and reminds me a lot of The Goonies. ❤ A quality sound design between the super cute Animal Crossing-style spoken dialogues, the excellent and very expressive narrator who involves us right away in the story, and the very good soundtrack that accompanies us throughout the game. ❤ A simple story that manages to deliver moments full of emotion and sweetness, with sometimes surprising twists. In addition, the characters are very endearing and we really want to guide them to the end of their quest.
+/- If the principle of "Charms" is rather nice with its branching system, the gameplay remains quite limited. I would have liked maybe more interactions with the scenery or more mini-games.
✖ The sound effects are very loud and you can't adjust the volume (while doable for music or the narrator's voice). ✖ This is the kind of game where I regret that it is so short because I would have liked to stay a little longer with the characters (5 hours on my side). ✖ The map is small and we quickly go around it; more exploration would have been welcome.
For the moment it’s only in english and I kinda hope for more translations in different languages so the game could be more accessible as it's worth having a look. I recommend it especially to the nostalgic for the adventure movies of our childhood~

When your brain refuses to function with the same strategy everyday
I've recently finished writing my dissertation after 3.5 months, so am still just about living in academic mode. Unfortunately one thing I haven't seen people who struggle with executive functioning talk about as much is the fact that I can find a strategy that completely clicks with me and works perfectly, but then won't even help me get five minutes of work done the next day. So, I'm gonna slowly build a masterlist!
This was originally supposed to be specifically about how to find the right music to function with but might as well broaden it out a bit. If anyone has any strategies/music/website recommendations that work particularly well for them, let me know and I'll be happy to add them!
Music
Lofi Girl Livestream - Starting with the obvious one, but it's well-known for a reason! The song styles remain consistent enough to not get distracted by changed while still being different enough to keep the brain working, people are constantly in the live chat so there's an element of bodydoubling, and it's a livestream so you don't have to worry about changing songs partway through work. Plus if lofi hip hop's not your thing, they have a synthwave version too.
There's a platypus controlling me but it's lofi (1hr edition) - Getting a bit weirder now, I will admit, but I stand by this one 100%! At least once in every assessment period I will have it set to loop and playing for a full day. If instrumental music leaves too much room in your brain to be distracted, this one usually does the trick. The first couple of rounds might seem more distracting than it's worth but half an hour in, you'll be golden!
Mario Kart Double Dash Full OST - This doesn't specifically have to be Mario Kart Double Dash, but it is a fun one! Basically just think of a game that makes you feel nostalgic or comforted or happy, see if there's a full OST for it and hopefully it'll help. Other soundtracks I'm a fan of using are Danganronpa 2 and Professor Layton, but it depends what kind of speed/genre you prefer.
Minecraft but it's raining - Kinda similar to the previous one but this time it's particularly peaceful OSTs with extra sounds on top! The one linked is the video I use the most but it's the same few songs repeated over and over for 10 hours so depends whether you work better with repetition or variation. There's also an Animal Crossing one here.
8D Lofi Girl (2hrs) - If normal lofi and added rain isn't cutting it, 8D might be the way to go! Since the music is constantly changing direction it adds a bit more interest to your brain. It's only 2 hours long but there do seem to be a fair few others on YouTube so shouldn't be too difficult to turn into a playlist or queue.
I'm Still Standing - Just the song. I just put it on loop and for some reason it sometimes works. Pick whichever song you want for this, though maybe keep it for final day crunches and be prepared to never be able to listen to the song again outside of work.
Websites and Apps
Forest - The main programme I've been using this time around! You set a timer and choose a tree, and every time you complete a time period of work without going on one of the apps/websites on your blocklist, another tree is added to your forest. It comes as both a Firefox Addon and an app, which can either be used synchronised or separately. Be warned, if you do want to synchronise them, you'll need to buy the premium version of the app, but it's a one-time payment of £3.89, so if it's something you can afford, it can be really useful.
Noisli - A mix of background noise and generally useful features, this one's a website and an app. It has lots of different background noises and you can mix and match them to make your ideal work setting. There's also a timer and space to type within the website if you don't want to move outside of it during work!

Todays rip: 20/08/2023
Noonsummer Madness
Season 6 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume DQ
Ripped by Vincent Mashups
youtube
Its always been kind of interesting to see when new games released within the SiIva channel's life gain traction with the rippers. In a way, games like Friday Night Funkin' gain their own identities on the channel - people grow an expectation of what kinds of rips are to come from that game. FNF is a pretty popular and known example of this and one I've already covered prior, so let's do something else today: Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Animal Crossing has always had good, laid back music punctuating all twenty-four hours of its day-to-day life, but New Horizons' soundscape really struck a new kind of chord with people. On listening, I think its pretty clear to see why - the game's soundtrack took on pretty clear "Lofi" music influence and really honed in on that feeling of pure relaxation. Likely as a result of this, New Horizons has become a really popular source for laid-back mashups on SiIva. Its a really interesting reoccurring pattern in that you always know what kind of music to expect, but in many cases don't know which real-life artists are to be used as the joke per each rip.
In a way, it turns these New Horizons rips into a sort of radio channel for finding new lofi-adjacent music? Each time you tune in to a AM/PM rip such as Noonsummer Madness you're bound to find a wave of people in the comments who have never heard of the track being used with the original song, alongside people who are familiar spreading their love and approval of the mashup. The vibe always feels so interestingly different from normal SiIva activity and it makes each of these rips an event to look forward to.
I apologize for not really talking about the rip itself today all too much, but it speaks for itself in its efficiency - the vocals and rhythm of Midsummer Madness fit the 12PM theme's tone like an absolute glove, and give me a kind of nostalgic feeling I didn't even know I had for New Horizons. It along with every other AM/PM rip of New Horizons on the channel are absolutely perfect background music for chores and are permanent fixtures on my playlist.

Do you play any video games which are your favs ?
I love video games. I'll post my top five under the readmore in order.
1.) Majora's Mask
Majoras Mask was the first game I played as a child. Most of this adoration is nostalgia, but the game itself holds the test of time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything about MM is gorgeous and interesting. It's the perfect amount of spooky. The time limit for dungeons is challenging. The side quests are deep stories on their own, and every NPC has a unique situation. The soundtrack is bomb.
youtube
2.) Okami
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I was to suggest any of these games for you to play, it would be this one. I'm a huge fan of puzzle and adventure games. The art and animation are unlike anything I've ever seen before. It has intriguing Japanese folklore. You'll learn about the gods and their stories that Kishimoto used for the Uchiha's abilities. You are a wolf named Amaterasu and you can paint things into existence.
Also an amazing soundtrack.
youtube
3.) Katamari Damacy
Tumblr media
You're just a little dude who rolls stuff up on a ball. The premise of the game is you are sent to earth to make katamari for humans who want specific things. One guy wants a ball of flowers to woo someone, one sumo wrestler wants you to roll him a ball of food, one dude wants you to roll up all of Tokyo.
Another bomb ass soundtrack.
youtube
4.) Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
Tumblr media
This game...wow, pure nostalgia. It's like animal crossing with a dating simulator storyline. Very calming and stress free. I think they're remaking it for the Nintendo Switch but I don't know the release date. Nice little soundtrack of course.
youtube
5.) Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not gonna lie to you man, this game sucks. Every time i feel nostalgic for it, I play and remember how fucking annoying it is. But the Chao Garden and Sonic vs Shadow makes everything worth it. My original fandom was Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow was the edge hedge that got me liking bad boys. I have now realized that I appreciate a good soundtrack on a video game, and boy oh boy does this game have some bangers.

Animal Crossing is a simulation game for the Nintendo GameCube released on September 16, 2002. It was the first game in the Animal Crossing series to be localized for Western audiences. Animal Crossing's iconic music was composed by Kazumi Totaka, Kenta Nagata, Toru Minegishi, and Shinobu Tanaka.
This is my chill lofi hip hop remix of 7 AM. This song has such a nostalgic, cozy feeling of waking up in the morning!

Digital Skills with Kalina Pulit
Concept + Storyboarding
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NewJeans - Ditto
Wes Anderson - The French Dispatch
During Kalina’s lessons, we considered context and format and how the placement of our work affects the audiences perspective on it. For the “A letter to...” brief I considered writing to my childhood home using camcorder footage and nostaglic imagery and music. Above are the visual references I considered for the potential production of this piece. I planned to use a mix media of film, and child-like drawn animation.
Pre production
This class talked us through all elements of pre production and planning.
Staff roles in Production:
Writer (sometimes also a Director)
Director (sometimes also a Writer)
Production Company
Executive Producer
Producer
Production Assistant (PA)
Director of Photography / Cinematographer
Art Director, Set Designer, Prop Stylist
Costume Designer / Stylist
Hair and Make Up Artist, Nail Technician, Prosthetics Artist, Special Effects
Planning involved in Pre-production:
Collating references
Creating a budget
Making a schedule
Casting – scouting and booking talent
Legal docus - any permits required
Testing – camera, costume fitting, make up, audio
Team brief
Rehearsals
Contracts
"A video treatment is a document that presents your idea for a music video, short film, or video project in a way that's easy to understand, visualize, and sell. A good treatment is a roadmap that outlines your vision, showcases your creativity, and demonstrates your ability to execute the project."
Video treatments contains:
Inspiration + refs
Concept
Storyboard
Character description
Cinematography
Location, set design
Casting, performance direction
Costume, hair and make up
Plot diagram + narrative arc:
Post production and Editing
Case study Nike - 'You Can’t Stop Us’ campaign.
youtube
voice over
storyline
cross cutting
colour grading + colour correction
building audio to build tension
Post production roles:
Editor
Post Producer
Animator
Colourist
VFX Artist
Motion Graphics Designer, Graphic Designer, Titles Designer
Sound Editor
Composer, Sound Designer, Foley Artist
Sound Mix Engineer
Types of editing such as:
Cross Cutting
L Cut
J Cut
Tumblr media
Solange - 'Crane in the Sky'
We were asked to consider for our own work:
Editing style – pace, overlays, cuts or transitions
Colour grade/ colour correcting
Animation/ VFX
Motion graphics
Sound design including soundtrack, dialogue and foley sounds.
My response to the task:
I want my film to take a slower pace, as I have decided it would be targeted to youtube. I think the slow place is necessary in order to create the relaxed nostalgic vibe. I want there to be a very gentle monologue, of myself reading the letter over the top of the film.
In terms of colour grading, I was thinking of using both a combination of the Wes Anderson bright and vibrant grading and the NewJeans 'Ditto' nostaglic darker and fuzzier aesthetic. I'm not certain if these will work together well but I want to use them in contrast to show the past (bright) and the present (dark).
Animated drawings or scribbles over the top of the footage to add movement to more still shots.
I am debating whether to add subtitles onto the video or not.
I will do a voiceover using a written script and then create a soundscape by filming general outdoor sounds. I don't want to use any music but in areas of film that have actions such as footsteps, I want there to be gentle footsteps in the background.
I feel like I have learnt a lot of new terminology from Kalina's lessons and it has given me an insight into filmmaking. Overall, I wish I had had more time to see this project through to the end, as the concept planning was very enjoyable. Film is definitley a skill I would like to develop and I will consider it for the future.

(You have been given: 1x Ramble Pass!)
-> 🎫
(This item allows you to ramble on about music or whatever you'd like!)
thank u anon ur a real one fr :3
ive been listening to a lot of things the past few months. it all started after i wanted to try and expand my music taste, and it’s worked out pretty well hehe. one artist ive been listening to a lot lately is masakatsu takagi. hes a japanese musician and filmmaker, and he makes really neat stuff ! ik he’s worked on a few movie soundtracks, such as wolf children and mirai, but ive been delving into his other projects. his album kagayaki was my first introduction to his music, and i fell in love with it pretty easily. it has wonderful instrumentation with piano, strings, etc, and a lot of field recordings. there are sounds taken from nature, people talking/singing, children playing/laughing, and all sorts of stuff. unfortunately i don’t speak japanese, so i cannot understand a lot of what they’re saying, but i still love the vibe it has. i believe the album was made when takagi had moved to a small, rural village in japan, and the village inspired its creation. i definitely recommend it if you like movie osts, field recordings, and emotional stuff (idk it makes me emotional.. lol). or if you want something different to listen to! my fav tracks are prolly amamizu, ooharu, utagaki pt. 2, and nurse them make a fire.. (it’s a long title) but all of it is great! it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s mine :)
takagi has some other albums that are great too. there’s this one called sail that has a lot of fun, pop-electronic beats with lyrics here and there. something i find interesting about this album is that there are a few tracks that appear in other albums, specifically a track called rama, but it works very well in this one. it honestly feels like a casual-style video game ost, kinda reminds me of animal crossing/nintendo. it has a nostalgic quality to it, and it’s good to listen to while studying. also! most of lyrics are in english from what i can tell, which is neat. my fav tracks are rama, dig down, kimmy, and pimrico but the whole thing is lovely!
takagi also has his marginalia albums, which.. ive only listened to the first one but there are 5 + 2 misc comps. the first one is a lot of piano tracks with some singing occasionally, it’s nice background music for studying or sleeping. very pretty melodiesss
lastly, another album i particularly enjoy is coieda. it’s a mix of electronic, ambient, and classical pieces. not really classical, im just trying to think of a word for pieces made with physical instruments… traditional? idk. it’s been a while since last listened to it in full, but there’s this one track that i absolutely adore called exit / delete. it’s featuring another person singing and it’s so… oug comforting. this version of it imo is the best one, there is another version in private / public but it doesnt hit the same to me. it has a really nice guitar and a simple, yet super effective melody. it feels like a hug to me, even tho the lyrics seem kinda sad- point is, i love it to death. anyways thats enough for now. masakatsu takagi is wonderful :]

I want to do everything. I have several assignments that I'm only mostly sure I'm not too behind on. I have to watch every single POV of Secret Life, and the Doctor Who specials and at least two reviews of them and the new and interesting video essays and all of Hermitcraft except I'm skipping basically all of Decked Out to keep up with everything else because I don't really care about dungeon crawlers speaking of which I watch Wels Vault Hunters because it's him and no other reason also I occasionally want to start playing Animal Crossing again but I know I don't have time and I can't forget to play the next Pokemon DLC when it comes out and thankfully that's basically right at the start of my holidays so it'll be fine and also I recently started listening to the Dragon Quest 9 soundtrack while studying and ended up daydreaming a bunch of OCs including my kind-of-self-insert-but-not-entirely-at-this-point as the mage and now I've started a new playthrough with the intent of seeing how the game could be with those and maybe maybe one day writing up the longest fanfic I've ever attempted of the entire plot re-done with my additions, and am already coming up with more complex character for the main character based on things I didn't notice when I played it as a child speaking of which I must have reset so many times back then the swooshing sounds of the cutscene before the first battle are nostalgic lol also at some point I want to start actually playing Minecraft again, I stayed up late procrastinating on my procrastination by making myself a new skin the other day and why does the website for doing that just keep getting more and more laggy as it goes, also there's probably several other things I'm forgetting about right now. At some point I want to get back to my re-watch of False HC8 to see where the two of her could be swapped out and as research for a fic I still want to start writing some time. I want to do everything.

Jingle bells, Nintendo? 😊
Jingle Bells🎄 What is your favorite holiday?
I honestly really like Easter! My family was never very religious growing up, but my mom loved any excuse to cook. So she's always made ham, potato casserole, and croissants on Easter. She usually follows it with some really good pies too! I also just really love this time of year, the weather is usually beautiful and there are flowers blooming and everything is green again. Painting and collecting eggs was always really fun to me too!
Nintendo🎮 Which animal crossing game is your favorite?
Definitely New Leaf!! It's a really nostalgic and comforting game to me. I think the soundtrack is absolutely wonderful, and the pixelated graphics are just really cute to me. Not to mention the furniture in New Leaf is so adorable! The bug collection and the mushroom collection are my favorites. I just think that overall it's a lot cozier than New Horizons. To be completely honest, I'm not very impressed by New Horizons. I was soooo disappointed with their soundtrack when the game initially came out. Wild World is really fun too, but I haven't played it nearly as much as I've played New Leaf. New Leaf is also so much more fun to play with friends too since there are the multiplayer games on the island. Not to mention I love collecting all the ore gems in New Leaf!
Thanks so much for the asks! I hope you have a great day ♡
