The Bloody Journal - The Journal of a Levante Pirate
The Edinburgh Annual Register, for 1810 picks up a very curious case that leaves researchers in some doubt as to whether it is genuine or not.
It concerns William Davidson, a Scotsman who served under Captain Keates on HMS Niger in 1791. He is described as "a dark sallow man, aged about 35, of a gloomy and unsocial disposition". He had probably already been noticed several times for brawling and was probably punished again, whereby he collapsed under convulsions after 5 blows and the punishment was aborted. But when he hit a midshipman a few months later, the fun was over and he was supposed to be whipped again. Out of consideration for his last situation, they wanted to give him a different punishment, but he didn't get that far, because he broke away and threatened to kill himself if they didn't let him go. But he didn't, instead he jumped overboard, but was caught again and put in irons. In the meantime, rumour had it that Davidson was not a fine man, but had been involved in sinister dealings and had recorded all this in a secret journal.
You can read it here
The journal, also known as the Bloody Journal, was found and read in his Seachest. It described a voyage in 1788-89 on a Russian privateer named Saint Dinnan, who soon became guilty of piracy and was not very gentle with his Turkish and Greek victims, like, for example, the ship was simply sunk with all the remaining things and people (presumably most of the people were still alive). When asked about this, he admitted that he had written it, but that he had no choice and had to take part in order to survive. The journal was immediately sent to the Admiralty with this case of Piracy. But no answer came from the Admiralty and Davidson remained on board the Niger, which was now sailing under Captain Foote, until 1793. Still in Portsmouth, Davidson deserted 1794, but was pressed again and taken to the Royal George, where he drowned in an accident in 1795.
The question now occupying researchers is whether this journal is genuine or just an adventure/ pirate novel. The text itself is quite short, consisting of only 27 pages, and written quite incorrectly. Which is no wonder, because many of the simpler men could neither read nor write, so such a journal was already a rarity and makes it even more questionable. What is surprising is that the Admiralty, which had been presented with the case, did not react and presumably dismissed the whole thing as an adventure novel and did not put Davidson on trial as a pirate. The fact that he hid it does not, in my opinion, indicate that it is an authentic report, because even if it is a novel. He had to expect a conviction, because at that time anyone who gave even the slightest hint of piracy was given a trial. Which is why the A General History of the Pyrates: Pirate Captains, Crews, Ships, and Laws was written under a pseudonym, because it could have got the author into trouble.
But it is interesting that the journal was actually published in several copies before it was classified as too brutal. Whether you consider this an authentic report or not is up to you. But the whole thing is strange.

CATO STREET CONSPIRACY
CATO STREET CONSPIRACY
22-23 February 1820
The Spencean Philanthropists were a revolutionary organisation who plotted to overthrow the government and kill Prime Minister Lord Liverpool. The group of men included Arthur Thistlewood, George Edwards and Jamaican-born William Davidson. The men were angry about the Peterloo Massacre, as well as the depression and King George III had just died which resulted in public unrest. The group of men rented a small house in Cato Street to use as their base and conspired to kill all the politicians whilst they were together at dinner. They planned to seize key buildings, overthrow the government and oversee a radical revolution.
An informer spilled the beans and on 23 February, 12 officers were waiting for the group of men to arrive. The men arrived at 7:30pm near the Cato Street building where the police apprehended thirteen of them. During the scuffle, Thistlewood killed police officer Richard Smithers with a sword. Some of the men escaped but were arrested a few days later.
Most of the men were found guilty and sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered; however, there sentence was later changed to hanging or beheading. The men were hanged at Newgate Prison on 1 May in front of a large crowd. Five of the men were transported to Australia as convicts.

THE SCREEN: “Mae West Reveals Herself as a Circus Queen in “I’m No Angel” at the Paramount—Saturday's Millions”
I'M NO ANGEL, based on a story by Mae West and supported by Lowell Brentano; music and lyrics by Harvey Brooks, Gladys Du Bois and Ben Ellison; directed by Wesley Ruggles; a Paramount production. At the Times Square and Brooklyn Paramounts.
Tumblr media
Tira .... Mae West Jack Clayton .... Cary Grant Bill Barton .... Edward Arnold Slick .... Ralf Harolde Alicia Hatton .... Gertrude Michael Kirk .... Kent Taylor Thelma .... Dorothy Peterson Benny Pinkowitz .... Russell Hopton Beulah .... Gertrud Michael The Chump .... William Davidson Rajah .... Nigel de Bruller Bob .... Irving Pichel Omnes.... George Bruggeman Harry .... Nat Pendleton Chauffeur .... Morrie Cohen Judge .... Walter Walker
by MORDAUNT HALL.
Arrayed in a variety of costumes which set off her sinuous form, Mae West is appearing at the Paramount in her latest screen vehicle, "I'm No Angel," a title which, as might be surmised, fits the leading character. Here Miss West, who wrote the story herself from “suggestions contributed" by Lowell Brentano, is beheld as a circus beauty named Tira, who wins applause and admiration by risking her blond head in a lion's mouth twice daily.
It is a rapid-fire entertainment, with shameless but thoroughly contagious humor, and one in which Tira is always the mistress of the situation, whether it be in the cage with wild beasts, in her boudoir with admirers or in a court of law.
Tira is ever ready with & flip double entendre and' she permits no skeleton to be found behind her cupboard doors. She has an emphatic personality, which proves a magnet for even social lights with millions. She receives costly presents, Including diamond necklaces, but she is hardly a gold-digger. She refrains from posing, preferring to keep to her natural slangy speech in her journey through the story from a tent to a penthouse.
She admits that she has thrown discretion to the winds, and she sometimes finds herself in an awkward predicament, but through a wily lawyer she succeeds in proving that she is guiltless. The feeble parts of this picture are those in which a criminal known as Slick is introduced. The less one sees of him the better one feels, for the production is interesting only as long as it proceeds on its merry route.
The glimpses of Tira making her impressive entry to the circus arena and then proceeding to the big cage with the roaring lions are depicted shrewdly. Tira does not actually stick her whole head in the lion's mouth, but contents herself by putting her face between the beast's jaws, which is quite enough.
Even this is set forth with a certain degree of fun, and one feels that Tira probably has a pistol ready for an emergency and that other circus employees are ready to shoot in the event that the beast starts to close its mouth. But one is apt to wonder whether they could possibly be quick enough. Society among the spectators is thrilled, all except one snobbish girl, who is furious because her fiancé is very enthusiastic over the performer's courage-and her beauty.
Later there comes the time when Tira puts her fair head into a court of law as the plaintiff in a breach-of-promise case. She sues Jack Clayton, whom she really loves, for $1,000,000, and it is not Tira's artful counsel who wins the case, but the circus queen herself. She cross-examines the defendant's witnesses and turns their testimony in her own favor, the unusual proceeding being countenanced by a judge whose sympathy Tira wins with the utmost ease.
Miss West plays her part with the same brightness and naturalness that attended her second film role. There is no lack of spontaneity in her actions or in the utterance of her lines. She is a remarkable wit, after her fashion. Cary Grant is pleasing as Clayton and Walter Walker is excellent as the considerate old judge. Gregory Ratoff does well as Tara’s lawyer. Wesley Ruggles has directed the film with his usual intelligence.

Tw: abuse, assault
Why do men with a platform, money and power think it’s okay to exploit and hurt people? Why do they continuously think they can do whatever they want with no consequences? Why do they believe that their actions, their CRIMES, will never reach the light of day? Remember friends, karma is a bitch and will always come back around. Watch your back.

Say their names
These are people with real lives who have been hurt, exploited and manipulated. They have been called liars for calling out people who have abused and exploited them. They had to see the people who hurt them thrive on the internet, and they deserve to watch their downfall.
And from the depths of my heart and soul,
Fuck William Gold
Fuck George Davidson
Fuck Punz/Luke
Fuck Clayton Huff
Fuck Nicholas Armaos
If you believe that you can hurt women, or anyone for that matter, you deserve to rot in the deepest depths of hell.
And before anyone calls me out for using their real names, these people have committed crimes, don’t let them hide behind a screen name

yknow when a story has a group of male buddies and the bad guy kills a bunch of them so the survivors go on a vengeful rampage... Where are the wives and girlfriends and mothers and daughters and platonic female besties who are just as willing to pick up a weapon and avenge the men they lost?
this should be more common and i want to call it the "Ross Adler Effect" after Mattie Ross (True Grit) and Sadie Adler (Red Dead Redemption 2): One female character (at least) who takes a second to process how her life has changed before pulling up to the gang like "you don't get to say I can't come too."
I'm tired of media perpetuating the idea that the convictions of a fictional guy's male friends/relatives constantly matter more than those of his female friends/relatives

Definition of domestic abuse:
Domestic abuse is typically manifested as a pattern of abusive behavior toward an intimate partner in a dating or family relationship, where the abuser exerts power and control over the victim. Domestic abuse can be mental, physical, economic or sexual in nature.
Wilbur repeatably bit Shelby hard enough to cause bruises and pain, implanted a safe word to which he always ignored and weaponized. still bit her hard and would even purposely bite down harder if she screamed the safe word. Poke at the bruises for “fun” just to hurt her. Lock her inside his filthy home and make her clean up his filth.
William Patrick spencer gold domestically abused Shelby.
Definition of sexual assault:
The term sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior that occurs without explicit consent of the victim. Some forms of sexual assault include: Attempted rape. Fondling or unwanted sexual touching. Forcing a victim to perform sexual acts, such as oral sex or penetrating the perpetrator's body.

George Davidson sexually assaulted caiti.
