Something like “your integrity makes me seem small” CAUSE SHE IS. Joe Alwyn, the man that you are and who you will be. I hope Joe truly finds peace one day from this circus that is TS.

what infinitely irritates me is how joe is truly one of the only people taylor has ever had around (at least publicly) who never used her for clout or attention is Joe like….. EVERYONE else benefitted from her and her fame somehow. all of her model friends and boyfriends. like it really seems like Joe never wanted anything from her… also why are people mad that he didn’t want to be in an extremely showy public relationship. who cares. what is wrong with that…. he’s not a bad guy or a misogynist for not wanting media coverage of his life 24/7
Sadly, Joe is living proof of the saying : "No good deed goes unpunished".
He built a fire to keep her warm. She is building fires to burn him down..

Did Taylor Swift write "Sweet Nothing" about Paul McCartney and his wife's summer in Wicklow in 1971?
Tumblr media
The song "Sweet Nothing" on Taylor Swift's Midnights has always stood out to me as a bit of an anomaly. Until this intriguing quote by Paul McCartney caught my eye:
In a 2001 ABC interview about his wife Linda, who passed away in 1998, Paul McCartney said:
"I would go out for a run, think of some words, get home from the run, write them down, and make a cup a tea for Linda," said McCartney, who would bring it to her for breakfast. "I'd make a little tray, and go up, and then I'd say, 'Hey, by the way, do you want to hear some poetry?' She'd always … she'd say, 'Yeah.' And so I wrote that poem." 'Blessed.' I would come back from a run. With lines of poetry to tell. And having listened, she would say "What a mind."
This is a direct quote and exact same storyline as in "Sweet Nothing." There is NO WAY that is a coincidence. So I wanted to see if Paul and Linda had any connection to Wicklow - the place mentioned in the song.
I think the McCartney family vacationed at the Luggala Estate in Co. Wicklow, Ireland in the summer of 1971 as an escape from the aftermath of the Beatles breakup.
A sweet Wicklow love story:
Paul McCartney has connections to Luggala going back to 1965-1966 when he partied at the estate with Guinness Brewing heir Tara Browne who was killed in a car accident a few months after his raucous 21st birthday, and inspired the Beatles song "A Day in the Life." Paul was close to Tara and his death deeply impacted him. This Rolling Stone article details their relationship and mentions that Paul has visited Luggala to visit Tara's gravesite since then on "numerous occasions." Paul had not met his wife Linda yet while Tara was alive, but this proves Paul's deep and personal ties to the family and their 5,000 acre private estate in the Wicklow Mountains, which continued to be a private retreat for celebrity guests until it was sold in 2019.
Tumblr media
Paul McCartney has posted multiple family photos taken by his wife in the summer of 1971 that appear to be taken near the Luggala Estate in Co. Wicklow. He tweeted this photo on St. Patricks day in 2017 which a previous Reddit thread links to Wicklow in 1971. And recently on March 2022 he tweeted this photo which appears to be taken the same day judging by his shirt and his dog, and credits the photo as being taken by his wife (she was a professional photographer) in Ireland in 1971. Here you have a better view of the surrounding mountains and rocky streams (full of pebbles I'd imagine...) It's notable that the second photo was posted March 2022 around the time when Taylor would be writing and recording the Midnights album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you look at the aerial view of Luggala Estate (Now showing on Google Maps as Luggala Lodge), I believe that these photos were taken in one of the rocky streams that feed into the private lake...which is named Lough Tay. (I like to think it's an extra little wink from Taylor that this investigation literally led me to a lake named Lough Tay.)
This area is completely private and the closest public access is from a hiking overlook. This seems like a great place for one of the most famous musicians in the world to hide out with his two young children, 2 dogs, and Linda, who would have been pregnant with Stella McCartney (born Sept 13, 1971).
We know that the family and their dogs were in Ireland in the summer of 1971 from this newspaper article where they were photographed at an airport in August leaving Ireland, which means it's possible that they were in Wicklow a few weeks earlier in July.
Tumblr media
Even though The Beatles broke up in 1969, it continued to be messy between members of the band and the financials involved for the next few years. During the summer of 1971 Paul McCartney and John Lennon were embroiled in a very public fight. There were lawsuits and scathing letters (dated 1971) and it's all very complicated so I won't go into it here, but this article has a good overview.
The lyric, "Industry disruptors and soul deconstructors and smooth-talking hucksters out glad-handing each other" could reference these incidents. I could see Taylor relating to Paul going through this public turmoil surrounding business with former friends, because it is similar to what she's going through with her masters.
Tumblr media
The lyric "You're in the kitchen humming" could reference Linda's passion for cooking and vegetarian activism. She literally founded a food company and wrote a cookbook. This darling photo on her website shows her cooking at the family home in Scotland in the 1970s. Linda was also a singer and recorded many songs with Paul, so the idea that she could be "humming" makes sense.
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift has been friends with the McCartney family for a while. She first met Paul in 2010. She collaborated with Stella McCartney in 2019 for a clothing line as part of the Lover era, and Stella also dressed her for the Evermore album cover in 2020.
Tumblr media
Taylor and Paul McCartney famously interviewed each other for Rolling Stone's "Musicians on Musicians" in 2020. In this article they mention how they both like writing under pseudonyms.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
But the most surprising thing I learned is that Paul actually wrote a song dedicated to Taylor and her relationship with her fans called "Who Cares."
youtube
Notably, the music video also features Taylor's longtime friend Emma Stone wearing rainbow makeup in an otherwise black-and-white world full of cartoonish bullies. It's notable that the music video was released Dec 2018, right before the Lover era would kick off a few months later. Perhaps Paul was showing a bit of preemptive support for Taylor as she embarked on what many of us believe was intended to be her coming out era?
Tumblr media
Now to the William Bowery of it all:
Taylor clearly wants us to think Sweet Nothing is about Joe because of the Wicklow name drop, where Joe was papped in July 2021, which looks staged to me.
Interestingly, I can't find any photos of Taylor being seen anywhere near Wicklow, but for some reason she staged a whole photoshoot in Northern Ireland in July, where locals said she "arrived and left by helicopter in a fleeting visit."
Tumblr media
She was also seen in several different locations in Belfast in fan photos. This article also says part of Red TV was recorded in Belfast.
Clearly she wanted to be seen and linked to Northern Ireland, and the lyric easily could have been "Does it ever miss Belfast sometimes?" (same number of syllables) but it's not.
"Sweet Nothing" does have a William Bowery co-writing credit. Would Sir Paul McCartney agree to a secret writing credit? Maybe.
I read an interesting twitter thread from a lawyer (who is a Gaylor) that discusses how William Bowery could be a name under which Taylor commissions writing "for hire." Meaning it could be Joe or multiple other people writing under that pseudonym, as opposed to the "Willam Bowery" (spelled different) which is listed as a U.S. Citizen.
Even if Paul wasn't involved in writing the song, I believe he inspired "Sweet Nothing."
---
Note: This theory was originally posted on the R/GaylorSwift subreddit Dec 22, 2022 which is currently set to private. I am the original author of the Reddit post (u/-periwinkle), and am reblogging it on my Tumblr because this theory has been gaining traction and I wanted to create a public version. This version has been slightly expanded and updated with better images. Also, I was not the first person to uncover the "what a mind" quote, and the original person who found it is tagged on Reddit.

I TRAVELED 14 HOURS IN A DAY TO MEET JOE ALWYN!!!!!!!!!!!!! not to flex but I have a signed folklore now by william bowery 😏
It was one of the best days of my life so far and honestly it still feels unreal. I took a train and a bus and a taxi, met him, then took another bus and another train and a bike to a takeout place because I didn’t have anything to eat all day, went home and literally fell asleep eating a burger. 10/10 would recommend, would do it again in a heartbeat
He is also a million times prettier in real life, jackpot @taylorswift I now know how you felt writing Gorgeous <3

Now that it’s been 3 years since “Folklore” came out, I have to say it but I never thought yogurt boy was William Bowery. Even Jack was like I have no idea who William Bowery is. I’m sorry I just don’t believe this random British dude who as far as I know doesn’t have any musical background could write part of these songs. And even if he did, I still don’t believe it I’m sorry. It just doesn’t not seem possible to me at all. That’s the hot take of the day and I know some of y’all are going to destroy me over it but.

I can’t imagine how bad it would be if Taylor was anywhere near as oppressed as she thinks she is. There’s no way she can actually believe joe locked her away and trapped her. Living in a rented house with your lover and creative partner, and still being a private plane ride away from literally anyone, still touring, traveling(following your bf), making a movie and shit ton of albums and money bffr that’s the dream. She’s just mad that London doesn’t care as much about her as the US; that combined with the lockdown she wasn’t front page every day. I wish there was a less slut shamey alternative to the term “fame whore” because it sums her up so well.
She’s super oppressed just cause London doesn’t follow her everywhere she goes when she’s there 🙃

This is who Joe Alwyn is..
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Friendly reminder that this is the man Joe Alwyn is. This is his strength of character. This is how he behaves under pressure.
This is what I mean when I speak about him and I say "quiet dignity". What he does is more than I could do if I were him.
This is the gentleman Joe Alwyn is. Notice how he didn't cause a scene, didn't raise his voice, didn't act offended, didn't punch anyone. No tantrums, no cease and desist letter was sent, no lawsuit followed. He chose to raise above it all. (Idk how)
Next time someone says something bad about Joe, remember this. Next time someone tells you that you admire him too much, remember this. Next time someone tells you not to like him, remember this. Because we should absolutely admire Joe Alwyn.

William Bowery
Tumblr media
William Bowery may be more than one person. William Bowery was a mystery from Folklore’s release 24 July 2020 until the Long Pond Sessions were released on Disney+ on 25 November 2020. When Taylor first talked about it she was not at ease, here in the interview with Zane Lowe she has a pause when talking about Joe writing Exile (49:34)
youtube
In the Long Pond Sessions talking about Exile Taylor says Joe wrote the piano and male lyrics. Jack moves his foot and clarifies “Jesus, lyrics too?” Which Taylor agrees with, adding Joe has such a low voice.
For Betty Taylor said "I just heard Joe singing the entire fully formed chorus of Betty from another room yeah" and "I've written so many songs from a female's perspective of wanting a male apology that we decided to make it from a teenage boy's perspective apologizing after he loses the love of his life because he's been foolish" Jack: "allegedly" "no he's been foolish" Jack: "well, we don't know who William Bowery is". "He's a fool, he's been foolish, we wrote it I'm confirming."
to Zane Lowe Taylor (25 Mins) said she and Joe love songs, she said that Joe wrote the melodic structure and she wrote the lyrics.
"We always bonded over music and had the same musical tastes and he's always the person who's showing me songs by artists and then they become my favorite songs". Funny, Harry has tweeted 6 hours worth of song recommendations.
Also to Zane Lowe, she said "we wrote it exactly the same way we did exile where Joe wrote the piano [pause and sharp breath in] I based the vocal melody on the piano and we sent it to justin" "Joe had written the piano part so that it the tempo speeds up and it changes the music completely changes to a different tempo in the bridge" (Below, Joe says he can play 'piano pretty badly')
7 December 2023 - In Taylors Time Magazine Person of the year article she referenced a number of Harry's inspirations and dressed like them. She referred to Paul McCartney who inspired Sweet Nothing and Bob Dylan who was an influence on Betty.
The name
I think every British guy is probably related to a William, as both Harry and Joe are. Harry has stayed at the Bowery Hotel a lot, including the week he met and started dating Taylor. Joe was also reported to be pictured there in October 2016 with Taylor. Which is not that unusual, it's a cool hotel.
Harry's last pre-pandemic show was the Fine Line secret session on March 2 at the Bowery Ballroom when he also replaced “beechwood cafe” with “Bowery ballroom” in falling He has stayed at the Bowery Hotel in April 2012 (when first dating Taylor) and returned in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019 and 2022. Harry's grandfathers middle name was William.
Joe told Kelly Clarkson "William, my great-grandfather, who I actually never met was a composer. He wrote a lot of classical music and he wrote a lot of film scores, and then Bowery is the area in New York that I spent a lot of time in when I first went over there.” Joe was reportedly pictured at the Bowery October 2016.
Song credits
William Bowery is still credited as the songwriter of 3 songs on Folklore: Exile, Betty & Champagne Problems. He's also credited as a writer on Coney Island, Evermore, and Sweet Nothing on Midnights.
In April 2021 Joe Alwyn was credited as a producer for 6 songs of Folklore, including 3 songs William Bowery is not a writer on. Joe has no credits on Evermore and Midnights.
For comparison, Taylor is listed as the writer on This is what you came for, rather than her previous pseudonym
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Timeline
25 November 2020 Taylor announced it in the Long Pond Session.
2021 ? I can't find Joe saying anything about it before April 2022?
15 March 2021 Folklore wins AOY Taylor said "I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine" in her Grammy acceptance speech, (Aaron pursed his lip)
?? April 2021 - Joe has production credits on 6 songs
5 December 2021 - You're Losing Me was written
19 April 2022 - When asked if they'd write again, Joe told Elle "“It’s not a plan of mine, no.”
18 May 2022 - Taylor stopped liking Joe's IG posts and he didn't come to her NYU graduation.
19 May 2022 - Joe went on Kelly Clarkson to talk William Bowery, he looks down and blinks a lot when speaking.
After this Joe looked mad in the VMAs and walk before Midnights release and not seen again
21 October 2022 - Midnights released with Sweet Nothing, Joe doesn't seem to have been mentioned by Taylor or her team.
Always playing instruments
To Zane Lowe Taylor said, while discussing William Bowery:
"He's always just playing instruments and he doesn't do it in a strategic ‘I’m writing a song right now’ thing he's always done that”
However, even after Folklore Joe said this on playing instruments:
Saying, “I like music, and I played a bit of guitar awfully in a school band when I was 12.” and “I can play piano pretty badly, but never with the intent of, ‘Right, it’s time for my jazz-fusion album.'”
Harry has spoken about the importance of constantly picking up instruments, has hunted down unique guitars and a Dulcimer for Fine Line. In 2013 was taking piano lessons while touring with One Direction, now he tours with a Piano on tour to write on. Like the 10 minute ballad he wrote for the last LOT show.
Tumblr media
Sweet nothing
Sweet nothing could be about Paul and Linda McCartney.
Taylor liked this old post with it the day she released you’re losing me and announced it was written 12 December 2021. The post links sweet nothing to a Paul McCartney Quote about Linda. Harry has referenced Paul and Linda’s collaboration album Ram many times, long before the WB songs:
To Howard stern in February 2020
To rolling stone in 2019
In his another man mix tape in 2017
Paul also interviewed Harry or Another Man and gave him advice on going solo. And Sweet Creature's melody has an homage to Paul's Blackbird.
Paul and Taylor also interviewed each other for Rolling Stone, it is fantastic interview, after Folklore. Interestingly they talk about pseudonyms and Taylor doesn't mention Joe or William Bowery. But does talk about writing under Nils Sjöberg.
"A pseudonym comes in is when you still have a love for making the work and you don’t want the work to become overshadowed by this thing that’s been built around you, based on what people know about you. And that’s when it’s really fun to create fake names and write under them." "I remembered always hearing that when Prince wrote “Manic Monday,” they didn’t reveal it for a couple of months."
Paul said his pseudonym was Fireman, which is referenced in the video for Willow. The phrasing of 'thing that is built around you' is really interesting. Joe does not have much built around him in terms of public persona, and writing together in the pandemic is remarkable, but not inconsistent with a public persona.
Bon Iver
Taylor said she hoped Bon Iver would do the project because ‘they are huge fans’ and Joe has a low voice. Justin Vernon and Harry Styles sound similar. So much so critics pointed out that that Fine Line has similarity to Bon Iver songs, Roslyn for example. This mash up also highlights this:
youtube
Even Liam Gallagher agrees, saying in 2019 that on fine line Harry sounded like Bon Iver:
Tumblr media

William Bowery’s writing credits are on Folklore’s tracks 2, 4 and 14 (2+4+14=20) (see 20), folklore also came out 2020.

i could see paul and linda being partially the muse for the song in the way that she's drawing parallels between her own relationship and theirs. this also goes along with the fact that she asked him about how he deals with having kids etc with his fame and how he protects his kids...
she obviously looks up to him and sees her own relationship as strong as his and Linda's, or hopes it is at least. it's definitely not that he's the main focus but rather what she aspires to have in love
Yes! This explains how I feel much better, thank you!
