Strangers Waiting at Your Door - Zine Preview

The stranger puts down the device he was holding onto the kitchen countertop and starts walking towards Superboy.

“Hold it right there!” Superboy shouts.

He uses his TTK to lift a couch cushion up to where the stranger is standing so it's forming a flimsy floating barrier between them. “Don't come any closer! I don't know who you are or why you brought me here, but you don't wanna mess with the S.”

Superboy crosses his arms over his chest and puts on his most intimidating expression: eyebrows drawn together and a frown modeled after Lex’s disappointed face. He doubts it's intimidating to this guy, though.

- Diggin’ Up Hatchets by Shayfer James

Various recreations of my horror OC, Foxglove aka The Herbalist. Obviously there’s some inconsistencies between the different picrews used, but I’ve included a text description, links etc. below the cut.

Originally, Foxglove was a travelling herbalist that provided various remedies for the people he encountered. Avoiding trouble where possible and mildly successful, Foxglove was content with his life.

The last town he ever visited was just like the rest, normal, welcoming towards a traveller selling wares. However, when Foxglove’s remedies did not satisfy the townspeople, they falsely accused him of being a conman, and punished him harshly. Foxglove’s charred body was left buried in an unmarked hole in the ground, a short distance away from the edge of the town. 

A week later, a thick fog rolled over the town, green in colour. Foxglove returned with it, wielding his favourite medicine at a much more potent dosage. If they wanted a cure, he was sure as hell going to give them one. And when they died in the process, well, at least they weren’t sick anymore.

Disclaimer: Simple scars and vitiligo have been used in place of burn scars for most of these images. This character does not have vitiligo, and these markings are merely a substitute.

Character description, game mechanics, and Picrew credits under the cut

Physical description

Foxglove is a thin man, average height, with porcelain skin. Burn scars cover around half his body in uneven splotches, the most noticeable of which can be seen on his right shoulder + neck, and on the left side of his face.

He has pale silver eyes and dark hair. Foxglove’s hair is a patchwork of varying lengths, longer in some areas and shaved to a buzz cut in others. The fringe is swept towards the left side of his face.

He dresses similarly to a plague doctor, with the signature hooded cloak and bird-like mask (see clothing below)

Main clothing: Black shirt + pants, dark green sleeveless tunic over shirt, heavy black boots, and a balaclava-like head covering with a hole for the face. Also wears gloves, a dark hooded cloak (beige fur lines the edges of the hood) and a beaked mask

Foxglove carries a staff, about a head taller than he is with a curled head. Hanging from the curled head by a short chain is a bronze censer (very lamp-like in shape), which is almost constantly flowing with green fog/smoke

Foxglove also has a second form, only seen when a person is under the hallucinatory effects of the censer’s contents (see Game Mechanics). This form resembles a jet-black bird creature, similar to a harpy. Humanoid, clawed wings instead of arms, jagged beak, etc.

Game Mechanics

Foxglove was designed loosely in the style of hunter/killer characters from asymmetrical horror games (e.g. Dead by Daylight, Identity V). In the hypothetical game he’d belong to, each killer has their own dedicated level.

Foxglove’s level resembles the graveyard and surrounding land where he was buried and subsequently resurrected from. The entire area is covered in a low hanging fog (reaching up to a person’s calf)

While being pursued by Foxglove, players can use the plant life and various discarded belongings (crates, fences etc.) as well as fire in any form to avoid being discovered by him.

Main mechanic: Crouching + Fog. The fog surrounding the entire area is a concoction created by Foxglove, the same as can be found in his censer. While crouching, a player character can reliably hide, but they also expose themselves to the toxin. Exposure is measured in percentage, and the higher percentage a player has, the worse the effects become.

Effects of the fog include slowed movement, discombobulation. At a very high percentage, Foxglove appears in his bird-creature form (as hallucinated by the player), becoming much faster, agile, and more aggressive

Due to Foxglove’s cause of death, he has a fear of fire. Creating a fire or exposing him to one will cause Foxglove to retreat and search in another part of the area

Has a voracious appetite like her father. She has a wicked sense of humor, but often second guesses herself. She fears she will never get to be the heir of the Flame Pillar title because of her gender. She can be mischievous and often uses her looks to play tricks on boys in the village.

If she were to use a Breathing technique, it would be Kitsune Breathing, derived from a mix of her mother and father’s techniques. If she had a choice, she would want to become a geisha one day like her ancestor.

Jade Akai lily, hopefully no longer a Jane clone

Some explanation before we start, Silvia (as she know goes by) changes her name a lot so if in the past I called her Ember Or Jackal it was to keep up. However for know she will be known as Silvia, as thats her current attempt at rebranding.

So miss-Silvia has posted again and this time it’s her infamous jane clone/ ‘twin’ Jade (I know so original. But then again this is a girl who complained about name and color theft while this was Jade’s og look

so maybe it’s only the original parts of her oc that are wrong to “take”. As Jane used to be named Akai to..) but I digress, Jade was Silvia’s take at a shitty trend that happened during the DA ranting era where people would make ‘evil’ twin versions of Jane after Cobalt tried to separate her oc from the dick heads version who paired her with Amy, a character she hated, to be spiteful.  Something Silvia clung onto after she got called out for stealing Janes work, most likely to be petty and hurt Cobalt in some way because she had a grudge, and claim all the fan art of the evil twin and Amy was of her ‘original’ recolor Jade. 

So while I did roll my eyes (girl move on, you were in the wrong the obsession is creepy) when she’s started to design her oc’s using doll makers and while not the most original, is a slight improvement ( I mean I’ve used the maker and she could have easily made Jade a clone) 

The new designs.

I’ll state it again, no one has an issue with her taking inspiration, it’s the fact that she recolored over other’s art (mine included) and straight up stole character designs 

(Jane and Sonic oc’s to the right, icky-Vicky and Shadows child to the left. But remember her oc isn’t a slut like Jane who only sleeps with Sonic. Vicky slept with both Sonic and Shadow in her au (no shade to any one who pairs there oc with more than one character but its the hypocrisy for me)

My oc (bottom doodles) is named bell by the way.

But considering when she designs her oc’s with a doll maker she sticks to those designs (her new design for Jayden and Jace , Jade x Amy kids)

(yes the base was used without permission since the og base was made by Emberlovesstealing/mari  which was shitty. I’m just pointing out how these designs are an upgrade from Jane with a swirl and Sonic recolors

)

So I’m hoping she uses this design to make Jade some what original and not a spiteful ‘evil’ twin because Cobalt called Silvia, the princess of edgy town out for stealing her art.

While I dislike the name ( it’s clunky and feels like she named her ‘oc’ that so she can copy and paste the D above the N in Jane’s name on akai x amy art/ make it easier to steal descriptions (which she’s done, and in polish no less) It’s not a huge issue outside of it directly linking Jane and Jade. So maybe changing it (first /middle or both) might help separate her more. There are a tone of names that mean red/shade of red or are a gemstone. (Maroon, Ruby, Sienna, Garnet) Middle name ( Akari, Akako, Hiiro (Scarlet), Makka (pure red), Shuiro (Vermillion) the list goes on.

Or hell keep the name Jade but change the oc’s fur color to green (to match her name and Jade Midori Lily sounds cool (might keep the Midori name for myself) or even hisuiiro which translated to Jade Green

You don’t even have to change the Next gen’s colors as Amy is pink and you could just say the colors come from here side of the family (I mean Sonic siblings are pink and green while his mom is purple with a yellow patch in some iterations so)

Just a few thoughts and suggestions. Plus this way you can prove how Jade isn’t just Janes family dollar version, especially since Silvia hates Cobalt and you’d think would want to not be associated with her.
