are rough collies good pets for someone who doesnt have a lot of physical labor for them? would walks and a good play routine be enough stimulation? i know theyre a working breed, and ive always wanted one, but i dont have a ton of space at my disposal and certainly no farm. are they as work addicted as border collies are?

i mean, i've got 2 collies and i certainly don't have a farm for them to run on 🤷 collies are a herding breed, but what you need to remember is that they're also a companion breed: the modern collie was developed by taking landrace herding collies and breeding them for show. so you've got a dog that has herding roots, but whose main application over the last century or so has been primarily as a show dog and as a family pet. i hear them get referred to as "decaf herding" or "herding-lite" sometimes, which i think is fair.

IME they're a solidly medium-energy breed; they require more stimulation as teenagers/young adults but they should never be, like, unmanageable. on an average day i do around 40-60 minutes worth of walks (at their pace, so they can sniff and pee and whatever to their hearts content) + i have a yard that i try to spend at least an hour outside every day (weather permitting). not that i'm playing with them for an hour straight, but that will include several minutes of fetch and then me just chilling outside so they can wander around and sniff and stare at the neighbors. they really really like mental exercise, so if you can do training sessions, take them out on errands, use puzzle toys and games, etc that's always super helpful. what i like about collies is that they can go all day if you ask - just last fall i took a trip with stellina and we did 20,000 step days, climbing mountains and eating at restaurants and etc, and she kept up the pace great! and then as soon as we got home, she passed out lol. but she by no means needs to do that regularly. they're very 'weekend warrior,' which i like.

so yeah, it depends on what exactly your routine would be but no they're not high-energy dogs, and while more stimulation and activity will never be turned down, they can also do just fine in suburbia with 1-2 hours of good quality engagement and exercise, IMO. i can't keep up with a high energy dog, but i also sometimes like to take my dog on day-long expeditions, so i find them to be a good match energy-wise for me.

#realistically i dont think any dog NEEDS a farm to be happy unless youre talking about like a serious LGD breed but. thats a tangent.

I forgot how happy writing made me.

Reading all the comments my readers left me, the little notes in their bookmarks; it definitely helped with motivating me to keep writing. It kinda sucks that I fell out of it.

I would love to continue some of the fanfiction that got me started, but unfortunately I'm not really in that fandom anymore. Plus the lore and fandom itself has grown complicated and (dare I say) uninteresting.

Regardless, I think I might try to get back into writing. Consistent, publicly shared writing, I should note- I never really stopped writing, it just became more private, more one-offs of inspiration.

Plus I need to find something to enjoy, to hopefully give my life meaning again if something doesn't happen within a month--the gods know how close I am to the noose as of late.

Along with that, I think I'm going to trying making games or something. That has always been a thing I wanted to do.

reading springfest now after everything in nagazora is making me crave more fu hua and mei interactions. i feel like thus far in my go through, i've never actually seen them interact, but it's kinda fun that the person who made the recommended reading order put springfest after nagazora (though of course this is probably in preparation for whatevers going on with senti/fu hua rn in ch 19)

but the way that the empyrea isolates herself so she doesn't have any attachment to those who she will outlive and how she winds up becoming lonely as a result threw me back to mei isolating herself in world serpent so that she can protect kiana and just... idk..... i think the two talk about that isolation would be interesting

Well the french in the last episode of iwtv was certainly something

#I think I needed the subtitles almost as much as someone who does not speak french. Had to re listen to some of the lines like 2 or 3 times #WHILE reading the subs to know wtf they were saying. Not sure they even speak french cause sometimes it sounds like they dont know what the #fuck they're saying themselves. my thoughts on ddd basically boil down to "great game! kill the story with fire and sticks." which i think is about the coldest take ever. do not get me started on how nobodies having hearts is a dumbfuck plot twist i am so full of rage over that.

#it ruins roxas' entire character i swear #also sidenote soras evidence for nobodies having hearts is. hilarious #his examples are xion; namine; roxas; and axel #xion isnt even a nobody #namine is only considered a nobody on a technicality #roxas is generally an exception to a lot of nobody rules. also him having emotions and that being an abnormality is like. a plot point #and axel generally doesnt have emotions! he only ever has them relating to sora or roxas and he is genuinely shocked the first time he- #-realizes that he can feel something because of them #he literally dies saying '[roxas] made me feel like i had a heart... its funny- you make me feel the same way' #that weird ability they have to make axel feel things is a big part of why he cares so much about roxas and sora #and to say that 'he actually had a heart' is just a bad misinterpreting of what was already there #and if i didnt know any better i would assume there was a different writer for this game #its poorly thought out and directly contradicted on multiple occasions #plus you cant tell me xemnas really tricked all these people into thinking they didnt have hearts. like. at the very least VEXEN would have #also if they always felt things and xemnas gaslighted them into thinking it wasnt real #then why would axel notice anything special about sora and roxas at all. wouldnt he just treat emotions caused by them like everything else #-and talk himself into thinking they werent real? like its just not thought out #also to me it makes xemnas a less interesting villain. i dont mind his big secret plot i think its fine honestly. #but i much prefer the option of xemnas taking advantage of people who were desperate to him gaslighting and lying #its more personal taste but like. idk #also literally do not get me started on how this twist sucks for roxas' character. its just plain bad for him. #he fought tooth and nail and fucking died saying he deserved to exist whether or not he had a heart #and to look at him and go 'dont worry you get one now' is just bad! and i hate it!! #anyways. i fucking despise this games story #kingdom hearts #doodles #sora #roxas #riku #lea
