i keep seeing posts where people are lamenting the fact that there hasn't been a breakup post-mortem scene with melissa processing herself ending things with gary, and frankly, i just don't agree. putting aside for a moment the fact that melissa is a side character (a member of the main cast, yes, but more of a supporting role than a protagonist), she's been showing us for 2.5 seasons that she doesn't like to have her vulnerability on display. why would she then process something so private in front of the cameras?

but this is part of a bigger problem in this fandom, which is the amount of attention melissa gets compared to literally any of the black characters. i love her character, but she doesn't need more screen time. she's a secondary character in an ensemble cast. we got her moment of processing with gary in the episode. is there anything else that really needs to be said about that relationship and her feelings about it that we can't just infer or interpret for ourselves? why does that story need to be told? it doesn't.

anyway, if y'all are so thirsty for a post-mel/gary-breakup scene, you can read my fic about it and pretend it's canon. and then take a little bit of time to reflect on why you want to see this character's post-breakup emotions when you weren't saying the same about janine after her breakup with moe, or gregory after his breakup with taylor or amber -- all relationships that got much more screentime and yet just about as much onscreen post-relationship processing.

It's genuinely disturbing that people feel comfortable calling others "nazis" because they like characters in a way they don't find personally acceptable. Especially when they think that people calling them out are wrong because a post being "tagged properly" is apparently a free pass to say whatever (their post not even being tagged correctly is a perfect summation of their idiocy). Rooster Teeth is no different than any other corporation. When people celebrated Lumity becoming canon, they weren’t supporting Disney. I get that they PRETENDED to be better so it hurts more to find out that they’re more of the same, but they’re not special. The people celebrating Bumbleby becoming canon aren’t automatically supporting Rooster Teeth, anymore so than Owl House fans automatically support the Walt Disney Corporation.

TD;DR: Rooster Teeth is terrible & deserves to rot, but supporting CRWBY doesn’t mean supporting it and it’s kind of a blatant double standard if it’s only inexcusable in THIS case, & yet in the case of Disney, or Riot Games…

I think we idealize Harry too much. He's done so much bullshit in those two years and we're always making excuses for him. He's always saying right things about how to treat women, people, etc., and then doing the opposite. As long as Harry gaslights us, we love him because sometimes he says the right things that we like to listen to. Oh, and he always thanks us and looks cute.

And he knows it.

One thing: Don’t place celebrities on pedestals. Don’t idolize famous people. Their art allows us to feel close to them but we don’t KNOW them. So you’re not wrong when you say he’s been idolized by the fandom. Maybe we (or just me, I’ll speak for myself) do feel too close and that’s why when things like this happen, it feels especially gross and misleading because this doesn’t make sense with the person we’ve built them up to be.

But I’m never going to bash Harry or Louis on here and this message is getting close to a tone I don’t gel with. Call me naive, idc. I believe these two people are doing the best they can in impossible situations. Do they have nearly every luxury available to them? Yes. Does that stop them from being human and having to make hard decisions (especially when they know how it will be perceived by their fans)? No.

So I don’t always agree with their actions or words, especially more recently. But I remind myself I don’t know the full story and it’s ultimately not my life. That’s not to say I’m accepting their words or actions blindly, like what’s happening around this stupid movie this weekend. Instead? I’m going to see another film, I’m going to stream another artist, I’m not giving WB (or Harry or Olivia) my time or money. And they won’t have my positive engagement on social media either. I’ll control what I can control and while I can be disappointed with Harry now, I don’t see any value in turning him into a villain.

love how you put thought into this whole situation I was worried about that author who got so much hate and at some point I started questioning my own morals cause i read that fic before the whole drama blew up and found nothing particularly wrong with it and I was like "am i part of the problem?" 😭 Ngl ruined my whole day. The death threats were just unnecessary tbh especially over a fictional character...and don't get me started over the yan/ dark fics I have seen so many of those where reader is a sex slave or is forced to be one to pay off their family's debt or something and i didn't see these people yapping and complaining about those...and tbh if they're offended over a harmless fanfic on a long dead website maybe they should go touch some grass and breathe fresh air cause these people are way too chronically online.. Honestly, same. I started thinking if I was in the wrong for thinking that nothing was wrong about the fic when I also read it before the whole situation had gone down. But after pondering about it, I questioned myself "Is it really wrong to want to save slave aventurine? Does that make me self-righteous and a white-knight? Does that make me a person who romanticizes that?" The answer is simply no.

It was never wrong to begin with when we had good intentions in mind, when reading that fic we never even had malicious thoughts about it when reader bought aventurine to save him and be a better owner/person to him, reader just wanted to give him a better life. It just annoys and angers me how people just assume we're white-knighting when the desire to save someone is just basic human decency and sympathy.

So no anon, you weren't a problem because I also think that there was nothing wrong with that fic at all.

(Also, you're so real for that Jing Yuan one!!! He was literally the first man I simped for before Aventurine 😫)
