I've been watching The Nanny before I go to sleep to distract my mind because my anxiety is so bad, but sometimes I still can't help but think of the horrible way things are right now. of course her being Jewish is a huge part of the character and the comedy, but there are also lots of lighthearted references to Israel and American Jewish connection to Israel (there's even a joke really early on about Arafat). at the end of an episode I just saw, the whole family goes to a kibbutz for winter vacation and it's part of the plot and just meant to be funny, not at all political. some jokes about Israelis being attractive and picking fruit. and I thought, they could never do that now. she'd be called an evil zio colonist now. kibbutzim were massacred and it was celebrated. people would be screaming on Twitter about the writing normalizing "Isnotreal." it made me so sad...things have changed completely in thirty years and not for the better, definitely not for the humanization of Jewish people and culture.

#I'm not into any of these shows but this is so important #I can never understand people who says Jews are overrepresented when we've consistently had to fight to be acknowledged onscreen #This is why I decided to just make all my characters Jewish and Israeli and now more than ever I won't change that #Representation for Jews- especially women LGBT and of differing nationalities are basically nonexistent and I know no one else will do it #Especially in the magical girl genre which appropriates Judaism sometimes (I love Symphogear but like... C'mon) but never actually has Jews #FOR FUCK'S SAKE even Steven Universe couldn't be made explicitly Jewish in the show itself #We are not overrepresented. A lot of Jews might work in Hollywood but our culture as always isn't allowed to be shown #And before anyone in animation goes “well what about Libby/Isabella/that girl from Moon Girl/Sam from Danny Phantom” you notice something? #THEY'RE ALL SIDE CHARACTERS #Jewish main characters and heroes just aren't allowed even now #Like this is especially a big trend in Disney TVA that needs to be called out because a lot of their shows have the “Jewish sidekick” trope #And I'm tired of it #That's not even getting into how cannonically Jewish heroes are erased #Spiderman cartoons? He's not Jewish. Oh don't worry he is in Spiderverse.... But that Jewishness is only confirmed in a blink and miss scen #His Jewishness obviously can't actually be explored #The entire MCU built itself on whitewashing Jewish heroes #So no. We don't have representation. Stop saying Jews are overrepresented
