#whisper of the worm exotic mission

Text
New thing to think about dropped. I've been losing it for a week now.
So, Whisper of the Worm mission always had a portal, in the big room just before the first enemy encounter. You could always get to the portal and look into it and it would show you... Vault of Glass! Even back in the day, before VoG was in D2, you could see it. There's a corresponding portal inside of Vault of Glass from which, in D2, you could see the Whisper mission.
This area with the portal was also a part of the mission, as oracles would appear and had to be shot in the right order for the exotic ship. Original view of the portal from before vaulting, looking into the Vault of Glass:
Tumblr media
View into Whisper from VoG when it was released in D2 in Splicer:
Tumblr media
These two things were never in the game at the same time until Into the Light! With the return of Whisper, they're finally together so you can go into VoG and look into Whisper, and vice versa. Or at least.... you can... Once.
When I did Whisper the first time it returned, I naturally went to the portal to check. It was showing the same image as it did before; Vault of Glass. This was the situation in Into the Light, on first clear (screenshot from a friend because I only have footage of it, this is much clearer):
Tumblr media
All is well! The portals link!
Except when I did the mission again... The portal image changed and remained changed. It's not showing Vault of Glass anymore. This is what it shows for every clear after:
Tumblr media
Absolutely bizarre. Going through the trouble of changing the image is quite wild if done for no reason. You don't really have to go to that area! And you would have to go to that area on your first clear to even notice the difference, so you would have to know that it's there and what it looked like before.
So what is the Whisper portal showing now? Absolutely no clue. The area is still in some sort of a cave, and it's very purple/dark. There's lights that might be Vex lights. The big central light could also be radiolaria? It's super hard to tell. I don't think it's looking into another area in VoG and I've tried comparing it to some other places mainly from Io or Venus, but I couldn't find something that matches from what little we can see.
But the fact that they changed the portal image can't be random. There's no need to do that at all in the first place, unless it's supposed to serve some purpose. Maybe some hint? I wonder if it will change again with reset, or maybe become clearer. I doubt there will be a lot of alterations going forward, if any, but I'll be checking every week for sure.
Also, there's oracles to shoot every week (2 available this week), for the new exotic ship associated with the mission. The original, A Thousand Wings and the new one, Karve of the Worm, comparison:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only difference is the Vex effects on the new one, and a new flavour text. To get the new one, you have to destroy a total of 7 oracles to get the ship. At least one of these will for sure be somewhere near the portal, because that's where the ship quest originally was, and it involved oracles. I wonder if something might happen with the portal when that triumph becomes finishable and the ship obtainable. Not hoping for something huge, but I feel like changing that portal image means something and we'll eventually find out what.

Cool stuff so far from Destiny 2 Into the Light free update coming in two weeks:
First off, they revealed 12 weapons that are coming, with a comment that there will be new exotic mission content with craftable exotic(s) being explained next week. Here are the 12 weapons already announced, all of which will be available to ALL players, regardless of which expansions they do or do not own:
-Blast Furnace (Black Armory) -Midnight Coup (Leviathan) -Succession (Deep Stone Crypt, no raiding required) -The Mountaintop (Crucible Ritual Weapon, now with Rocket Jump) -Hung Jury SR4 (Nightfall weapon, now easier to farm) -Luna's Howl (Crucible Ritual Weapon, happy doggo handcannon) -Elsie's Rifle (Destiny 1 Campaign, no longer "Stranger's Rifle") -The Recluse (Crucible Ritual Weapon, with Master of Arms 2.0) -Forbearance (Vow Raid weapon, no raiding required) -Falling Guillotine (Xur/Gunsmith weapon, with Halo sword dash) -Hammerhead (Black Armory) -Edge Transit (Forsaken World Drop)
Also the Parade sets are coming back, and the Superblack shader will return (possibly rendering the spooky season momento pointless). Gift of the Thundergod is returning, so free Thunderlord and full 1800 level gear for everyone, eliminating the power grind for the last couple months before TFS. And new Onslaught PvE horde/tower defense mode which looks fun as heck and really provides lots of long running potential as a thing you can just drop in anytime you want for a bit of blasting.
For people complaining about Hung Jury, I agree, but the idea of having a Nightfall level weapon you don't have to farm Nightfalls for is great for solo players. Honestly, though, I'd have brought back Steelfeather Repeater from Season of Dawn, or Duty Bound from the Nightfall pool. In terms of exotic missions returning, I assume Hawkmoon mission is coming back, but I would like to see Whisper of the Worm return as craftable.
As a minor aside, the power creep feels super real here, as some of these guns are the reason for weapon rotations/sunsetting originally happening, and it doesn't seem likely that this will be corrected for TFS, but that'll be for people who stick around after TFS to deal with as I'm already planning to peace out after the story of the next expansion is complete.

Hidden map for sleeper simulant
Tumblr media
That's a significant chunk of singleplayer content being removed. The game is for sure poorer for losing them.Īs for the Crucible modes leaving: I will dance on Countdown's grave. Missions like these, and the secrets and revelations that surround them, account for some of the series' most fondly remembered moments. And while most Exotic guns are moving to the mysterious new Memorial kiosk, the ones from these missions-Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected-are being removed until Bungie finds "a new way to reintroduce them". I've run both of them many, many times, ostensibly to help friends get the very good guns that they reward, but mostly just because I like doing them. Both are incredible: featuring unique locations, challenging combat and the jumping puzzles I crave so much. Menagerie in particular was distinct as a more casual six-player PvE activity, giving raid teams something to do when they'd just finished Spire of Stars and needed a goddamn break from the intricate dance of orbs.Īrguably the thing I'm most upset about losing are the two timed Exotic missions, The Whisper and Zero Hour. Black Armory Forges and Menagerie in particular-I like Reckoning, but I'm man enough to admit that I'm an outlier in this-are great, and fully deserve to be promoted to core activities with regularly updated loot pools and new maps and challenges. All of Year 2's activities are leaving, which makes sense in so far as their rewards are being sunset-meaning they won't be infusable to Year 4 power levels. The Momentum Control and Scorched Crucible modes are also expected to return in Year 4. Specifically the Prophecy Dungeon will "become temporarily unavailable" for "a brief period" for a technical update. Some other activities are just leaving temporarily, with plans to reintroduce them later in Year 4. We're losing the weekly playlist choice of regular Nightfalls, which already felt mostly ignored. Nightfalls, too, are remaining in the form of Nightfall: The Ordeal, which is already positioned as the main Nightfall mode.

I hope idk not being rude but how are you doing the season quests you talk about? Like the Prestige
It's not rude at all, anon!!  To start off for *Presage, and the other seasonal story quests, you need to buy the Season Pass to gain access, so hopefully you’re able to afford the Season Pass. - To start Presage, you first need to load the Arm’s Dealer strike in the EDZ. You don’t have to stay for the entirety of the strike, and it doesn’t have to be a Nightfall or a Vanguard Playlist Strike. In the Arm’s Dealer strike, when you first spawn in at the beginning, there’s an open door that leads outside, before interacting with the console to continue the strike. When you enter that open door, there will be Cabal turrets and a Cabal boss. When you kill the boss, you should see a collectible item called the “Intercepted Distress Signal.” If you wanted, you could technically leave the strike after picking up the Distress Signal. Afterwards, talk to Zavala at the Tower, and he will tell you to investigate the signal in the Tangled Shore. You will now see the quest “Presage” at the very top of the Tangled Shore. - When you start Presage, I’d recommend going in with at least one other friend- ideally a full fireteam of three people. The enemies will always be scaled up above your Light Level, and it can be rough at first, especially if you go in alone. Presage includes jumping/platforming- but the paths to continue are relatively easy to find, and the mission is forgiving if you fall, it’s not as intense as the old missions for Whisper of the Worm or Outbreak Perfected. Presage will also have various Scorn enemies, with a special mention to Corrupted Screebs spawning in certain areas throughout the mission.  As long as you take your time, and possibly follow a guide online if you prefer, Presage is very manageable, and is a worthwhile experience. After you complete Presage the first time around, you can rerun the mission again to get the Exotic Scout Rifle, Dead Man’s Tale, with a perk, similar to Hawkmoon from last season. - Finally, just in case you’re curious, I’ve managed to solo Presage- granted, I didn’t realize the triumph said “solo and without dying,” so I didn’t start over when I fell off the map. I haven’t experimented with a lot of loadouts, or different classes, but here’s what worked for me: I main as a Warlock, so I switched over to Well of Radiance so I could heal myself during the combat encounters, and I used the Exotic gear Phoenix Protocol (killing enemies while standing in Well of Radiance gives you Super Energy). My weapon loadout for the entirety of Presage was: Witherhoard (Exotic kinetic grenade launcher from Season of Arrivals. Currently, you can claim this weapon from the Monument to Lost Lights at the Tower if you have enough materials and an Exotic Cipher), an Energy auto rifle (I was using Reckless Oracle for this), and Blast Battue (Heavy grenade launcher from last season. For each combat encounter, I just took my time and stayed behind cover while firing Witherhoard. Witherhoard does damage over time, and can help to whittle down enemies. Any remaining health bars can be finished off from a distance with your other weapons and/or abilities. Again, this was just my personal loadout, and I haven’t tried other methods yet, but it IS possible to solo Presage- you just need to take your time. - If you have any other questions about Presage, or this season, let me know and I’ll do my best to answer! Hopefully something in here helped, anon, and again- you weren’t rude at all and I’m more than happy to try and help!

Hello again everyone! Please help me welcome @snowbellewells back to this years CSSNS!!!
Tumblr media
Tumblr Name
@snowbellewells
How long have you been in the CS/OUAT fandom?
I have been in the OuaT fandom since the summer before season three began. My best friend and I discovered it and pretty much mainlined the first two seasons just in time to join the "Save Henry" mission to Neverland.
When did you start shipping Captain Swan?
I would say they were on my radar for sheer chemistry all the way back to the beanstalk, but honestly considering them a real potential couple didn't come until about the time she gave him the "You and I, we understand each other" speech at the end of season two, and he then turned his ship around and offered it and his services in going after Henry.
What drew you to this event?
Well, the simple answer is my online friendship with Krystal and my intense desire to discover and read all of the werewolf!Killian fics there are. ;)  Beyond that though, it led me to so many other great fics of all supernatural varieties, so many new friends, and so much fun!!  (And, over the last two summers, it finally gave me the courage and the push to write the werewolf story of my own that I had rolling around in my brain.)
What inspired your topic?
My first one shot for this year's event was inspired by a prompt on Tumblr that I just couldn't get out of my head - that an attempt to right something that had a traditional fairy tale tone/feeling to the writing style. The second (which may or may not stay a one shot) is a little less fleshed out in my mind at this point, but the idea really came to me initially from a line in a song.
If you would like to share a snippet/sneak peek/summary of your fic or artwork, please use the space below.
Once, not-so-very long ago, in a cozy village on the eastern seaboard, a town right up by the ocean waves crashing onto the rocky shores, a rather peculiar story took place. The little burg was quite isolated. Surrounded by the Atlantic on one side and the Maine woods on two others, it almost seemed as though the little place - Storybrooke was its name - had been forgotten by time and the rest of the world. There was, of course, a road in from the south, bu it seemed that very few newcomers ever traveled it; either unable to see, or unconcerned with discovering, its presence.
Instead, Storybrooke, Maine was quiet and close-knit; the people banded in solidarity by time and trust, just as the houses and shops huddled together against the chill sea air and harsh winter squalls. They were a rough and craggy lot, but will a quaint and beguiling self-reliance and simplicity to them as well.
All except one of their number, that is. The beautiful woman who lived in the old mansion on the hill at the far edge of town. She was different, an exotic treasure, who had arrived in town and made herself at home some years ago. (Exactly when, no one could recall.) In some ways, she seemed ill-suited to such a small, staid little outpost, and yet, she never appeared dissatisfied. And where the neighborhood gossips and old-timers might have often closed ranks, refusing to accept such a mysterious newcomer, watching suspiciously and whispering behind their hands, she had wormed her way into their good graces.
Who/what have you beta'd before, or is this your first time? Feel free to give as much info as you like.
I haven't done a lot of beta-ing, but I have had wonderful experiences so far. I beta-read for Melanie (@searchingwardrobes) in last year's CSSNS event, which I THOROUGHLY enjoyed - I felt like I was getting a sneak peek of a much anticipated movie before its release! I also beta-read @darkcolinodonorgasm's Pupstravaganza fic, to my utter delight! I have beta-read a couple other MCs along the way, and I'm thinking I'd have fun being a beta even more often in the future.
What are you looking forward to most about participating in this event?
All the Discord conversations, ideas, fangirling, and cheering each other on - not to mention all the ideas that flourish there. Really digging into my stories for this summer and making progress. Beta reading for my author this time around (I've only read a few pages so far, and I already can't wait for more of it!)
Marta is one of my very favorite authors in this incredibly talented fandom and is a dear friend as well. I’m so excited that she has more for us this year and can’t wait to see them!!! She will be dropping fic on June 9 and July 5, and betaing for @xhookswenchx in the third wave. Everyone go tell her hi and welcome her back to the event!!!

Blackout - A Destiny Story
“Eyes up Guardian!”
Chase flashed and hovered over his guardians bunk, attempting to wake up a half asleep Kenton. Or Ken, as he was called by his friends, a titan exo named CHAO-5 and awoken warlock named Draeko. However like Ken, he gave them nicknames because they felt they worked better in combat. Respectively, Chao and Drake.
“Wake up!”
Ken tossed a pillow at his ghost, but Chase was able to avoid the fluffy projectile. Defeated, Chase sighed and went to get Chao and Drake to have them try.
“Won’t get up eh?”, said Chao oiling his upper section of his arm. Last time he went into the crucible, he fell and hit it, ever since it’s locked up in missions. He found oiling it has helped but has refused to ask for a new arm. Usually these three stay in their ships but they were all tired and decided to crash in the bunks room at the tower. They were out running a strike on Io and it took them a while to get back to earth.
“No, I’ve been trying for 10 minutes, he’s determined.”, Chase blinked.
“Or Hungover”, lamented Chao.
“Sigh... he was drinking again?”
“Yes, I know we got some great loot last night but he needs to lay off.”, Chao replied.”
At this, Drake walked into the breakfast room, he grabbed a bagel and looked puzzled at it. “Curious, it appears to be a donut without a dough or glaze? What’s the point of eating an inferior version?”
“Good point, why would you eat it?”, Chao agreed.
“Because we wanted to eat healthily pre-traveler era.”, said Ken stumbling out.
“Look who’s up, sleeping beauty!”, Chase chided. “You need to stop drinking alcoholic beverages after every mission!”
“Shut up Alexa”
“That’s.. not my name... I don’t understand?”
“Never mind, I’m getting a waffle.”, Ken said trodding off toward the iron.
“So, what are we doing today?”, Drake said sitting down, uncomfortably on the bench attached to the table. Drake, as an awoken had been away from earths people for a while and was still adjusting to things.
“Well, i still have yet to do that quest Ada gave me, Servo, what’s my average LL?”
“You’re sitting around 597, she recommended 610”, Servo answered.
“But, we’re all at 590-600. If we all go we might be able to do it. I got the same task.”, interrupted Ken drowning his waffle in maple syrup.
Drake contemplated this, munching on his discount donut. He had the highest Light Level out of the three and though he still had to do the quest as well, he was worried at how tough it could be. Eventually he got up, stuffed the rest of the bagel in his mouth then started toward the elevator to the armory. Not that Ken or Chao noticed, they were too busy arguing about which exotic of theirs was better, Ace of Spades or Sleeper Simulant.
Drake pressed the button and the elevator door closed and whirred as it ascended. Eventually the elevator stopped and arrived at the armory, Drake stepped out and noticed someone moving crates of weapons around.
“Good morning.”, called the warlock.
“Ah, good morning, you’re here early. Pardon the dust just organizing some boxes of rifles!”
It was Shaxx, overseer of the crucible, awoken can get pretty tall, but even standing several feet apart, Drake seemed tiny compared to the boisterous titan.
“Just checking out my weapons.”, Drake explained.
“Going on another mission?”, Shaxx said putting down a crate.
“Depends, I want to check my gear to make sure I can carry my team if I need to.”, Drake replied. “My Well of Radiance can only do so much, I want to see what my new weapons have in the way of perks. Eve?”
“Yes?”, the ghost said blinking into existence.
“Can you check what the stats on these weapons are?”
“Certainly.”, the ghost replied.
“You have the primary Assault rifle, Breakneck, the Shotgun, Retold Tale and the Sniper Rifle,Whisper of the Worm. All in the 590-605 range.”, Eve counted.
“As for my Gear, I have some good stuff, it seems and the Sunbracers for gloves.”
“Seems like I should get ready and tell them.”, said Drake returning his ghost.
<========================>
“All right, ready to go?, said Chao getting in his ship. Drake and Ken replied with a thumbs up from their cockpits and the sound of their engines filled the hangar.
After a while the three of them are on there way to the EDZ and start up a conversation about their favorite weapons. The three may be very different in origin and history but the one thing they have in common is their love of rare weapons and other personal items. Ken asks what Drake’s is “being a warlock”.
“What’s that supposed to mean Cowboy?”, says Drake alluding to the hunters choice of subclass Gunslinger.
“Nothin’ but we both agree that we have very different styles when it comes to fighting.”, the hunter replied with a smirk.
“I probably would go with Prometheus Lens, it goes well with my solar subclass and it’s great for add clearing.”
“Yeah”, interjected Ken, “It used to be even better, but it was such a problem the Vanguard had to tell Banshee to mod them so people couldn’t take advantage of it!”
“Oh yeah, Banshee had a lot of work to do that week!”
“What about you, Chao?, what’s your favorite exotic?”, asked Ken slowly moving his hand toward the throttle.
“That’s a tough one, I think if I had to pick one it would we my...”
“Yeah whatever, RACE YOU TO THE EDZ!!!”, Ken yelled into his com, shut it off then pulled on the throttle sending his ship into a nosedive.
“YOU SON OF A!”-
“That little...”
The three ships raced toward the landing zone north of Trostland and the warlock, titan and hunter appeared on the surface transmatting from thin air.
“I totally beat all of you!”
No you didn’t, I clearly won that!”
“WOULD YOU TWO STOP ARGUING!”, Drake shouted.
“Let’s just get to the location on the map.”
“Fine”
“Okay”
<========================>
“Well, here’s the spot.”
“A cave...at the edge of the EDZ...what’s the point here cause I’m sure missing it?”, Ken said shouldering his rocket launcher.
“What’s that in the center?”
“I think that’s what we’re here for, hey Ada?”
“HOW DID YOU GET ACCESS TO...oh it’s you 3..sorry, reflex. Ahem, that is a forge, your job now that you have that frame, is to forge the Machine Gun.”
“You need to collect charges and put them into the forge before time runs out, otherwise the forge won’t complete.”
“Sounds simple enough, just chuck some balls at the thing in the center and BAM! free loot!”, said an excited Ken racing toward the forge.
“WAIT!”, Ada shouted.
It was too late, the forge turned on and Cabal came charging through the caves for the 3 of them.
“YOU IDIOT!”, shouted the angry Awoken, “She was about to mention the danger!”
“You guys we’re taking too long we’ll be fi-
SMACK!, a gladiator Cabal smashed the frail hunter into an adjacent cave wall.
“Ugh what did he do now?”, lamented Chase reviving his dead guardian.
“He poked a hornets nest, he rushed in without a plan what do you think he did?!”
“-ne, what happened? Did we win?
“NO, you rushed in without a plan and died to a Space Turtle. Stop doing that!”
“You guys worry too much, I’m fine as long as I have Chase!”
“AND WHAT IF IM NOT?!”, yelled Chase at his guardian shotgunning a Cabal.
“What?”
“What if I’m not able to revive you? What if im not there to? What then?!”
“I’ll be fine.”, Ken replied reloading his Handcannon.
“I always think of a way out of things-
“No...your friends do...I do.”, Chase said sulking away.
“I’ll be fine without him...”
————————————————
“Good thing you have that Well of Radiance D! This is getting rough!”
“Im also 5 levels above you!”, the warlock responded taking a shot at the centurion.
“Hey, is...where’s Chase going?”, asked Drake.
“Huh?”
“Chase! Wait!”
“Leave me alone...”, Chase called turning away.
“What’s wrong?”, Chao pryed shooting a psion.
“What’s wrong is my guardian is an incompetent buffoon who insists on getting himself killed and never thanking the person that revives him over and-“
“Guardian down!”, said Servo announcing his Titan’s death.
“Anyway, he clearly doesn’t need me, so I’m just gonna watch you two.”, Chase declared, if he had arms, they would be crossed.
“Jeez, that hurt, hey, my super’s almost ready!”, said Chao.
“I’ve got a while before mines ready, what about yours Ken?”, Drake asked over comms.
Ken was busy lining up shots with his hand cannon as its bullets made contact with the hard skulls of Cabal. Then he was struck with a blast from a Cabal gun and fell to the ground losing his grip on his revolver.
“Ken!”, said Chao rushing over to help.
Chao slammed the Centurion with a shoulder charge and rushed over to put up his barrier.
“Servo! Can you help him?”
“I just revived you, it’ll be a while before I can.”, replied his ghost.
“and Drake just got revived by Eve...”
The titan looked at the angry ghost in the corner of the cave.
“What?...No, NO! N-O, NO!”
“Come on Chase he’s your guardian!”
“Not until he apologizes, oh wait he can’t..HE’S DEAD!”
“Sigh...we need him for this man! You’re the only one who can do it!”
Chase looked at the cloak being stomped on by Cabal. Then his guardians cloak moved just enough to reveal his handcannon. He could see the engravings of crashing waves making up the texture of the grip on the weapon. He stopped and looked around then finally replied with, “You cover me while I bring him back.”
Soon the hunter was back, he looked at his ghost and started to apologize.
“Listen, I’m sorry for acting like an idiot... Sometimes I just get distracted or pissed off, but...thank you for bringing me back..”
“Alright, I’m sorry too... I know you can’t help it it’s in your nature to rush into things, always has been-
“Always will be, but I’ll try to not get myself killed as much from now on okay?”
“Thank you”
“Now let’s kick some Cabal a**!”
————————————————
The three were on the final part of the forge and were having trouble killing the Warden, putting as many shells and rounds into it as they could but to no avail.
“I think this is why Ada told us to be at 610!”, Chao said putting up his barrier.
“Hey! Let’s pool our supers together and take this guy down, we got this!”, Ken replied.
“Sounds good to me, any objections?...no...okay!”
The Warlock summoned his Dawnblade engulfed in solar light hot as Sol itself as the Titan rushed over and put up his Ward of Dawn. The blade slammed into the cave floor, creating a spiraling Well of light as the purple tint of the Titans shield encased the two blocking shots from the Centurion. Finally the Hunter slid in front of the bubble and called his Golden Gun. After firing 6 shots from the Revolver encased in light empowered by the Well, the Warden was almost down. The three took out their power weapons and blasted what was left of the armor off the Cabal as it fell to the cavern floor.

yooo i've been following you for a while now and you're actually the reason i gave in and got destiny 2 and the expansions, and i was wondering; got any tips for raising my power quickly or getting sweet exotics? thanks, keep being cool and have a great day!!
i’m glad you’re having fun!!! exotics are pretty difficult to get, tbh. they’re random drops. sometimes you might get lucky and get like eight in two days (FUCK my friend and her fantastic rng akdljfskldfj) or youll go months without one. for y1 exotics, find xur every weekend! he sells pre-forsaken exotics. there are a few that are quest-locked. these are mida multi-tool, sturm, rat king, malfeasance, ace of spades, chaperone, last word, polaris lance, legend of acrius, whisper of the worm, sleeper simulant, anarchy, wish ender, worldline zero, and one thousand voices. some are solo-able, some not. lord of wolves can drop from spider bounties, and le monarque and jotunn can drop on forge completions.
the best sources of exotic world drops for me have been in gambit or from random high-value targets in patrol zones or in raids. flashpoint can give you exotics, too. i think i get more exotics from sloane and devrim than anyone else tbh lmao. i’ve gotten a lot from gambit, though. like a whole lot.
as for raising your light level/power level, just do your milestones every week! they show up on your director. strikes, gambit, heroic story missions, crucible, flashpoint, clan rewards, weekly bounties, weekly spider bounty, etc. if you’re already at max level. if not, don’t worry! just play the game, go through the story missions, and grind for maximum character level before you worry about light level! if you have forsaken, you’ll probably reach 600 fairly easily. the light’s going up to 700 next season, too, if you own forsaken!
i think theres some kind of method to raising your light level faster? like doing certain activities first? i dont really know tbh, but there are probably tips on youtube somewhere. i definitely recommend decrypting prime engrams asap while you’re leveling up. you dont have to have your highest gear equipped, either, it takes into account what’s in your inventory. if you wanna level a side character, move your highest power level weapons to that character so their armor drops will be higher! also ranking up in gambit or crucible will give you a powerful reward (for a rankup, not a sub-rank. resetting your valor/glory/infamy gives you powerful gear, too!)
dont worry too much about leveling up fast unless you need it for missions and stuff. sometimes the grind can be really fun, too! just running around doing gambit or strikes or even patrol for a while, especially with some friends!

Last Word Review and Update Review
An admired weapon returned in a big Destiny 2 update on Tuesday, the 29th of January. The great hand cannon of legend, The Last Word. It may be the fancy headline feature, and quietly nudge parts of the story along too, but the update’s also notable for a huge number of weapon reworks (as mentioned from what we knew was to come). Some abilities were toned down, some powered up, and some somehow made even worse, while entire classes of weapons have become more useful (Scouts and autos). It’s probably better for you yourself to look through the patch notes.
Tumblr media
The Last Word is known within Destiny for being a monster in the first game, though I don’t play on  PC, I already knew that it was gonna mainly excel on that platform as the recoil handling on weapons is far better and that is the Last Words worst flaw. The lore behind the gun isn’t too complicated and has actually been covered in a previous blog of mine, In short, a big hero (Shin Malphur) used this revolver to hunt ‘Knights of Yor’ (guardians who practice the ways of the dark, and through plot armor we’re getting to play with it too.
Tumblr media
First, to get the gun, you must complete The Draw. A quest-line involving grinding through various PvE and PvP challenges. I was able to grind that out in a single evening, and it’s capped with a short but sweet new mission set in a place that’s been woefully under-used so far. Visit the Drifter to start the quest. And you’ll need the season pass, as well.
Tumblr media
It’s an interesting gun, a short-range and fast-firing revolver you can even fan-fire with whats virtually full-auto, with several perks encouraging firing from the hip rather down the sights. PvP modes are where it’s clearly supposed to live, occupying a mid-range between shotguns and bangier hand cannons, though I’ve not played with mine enough to have a sense of how good it is yet. I can tell you matches will not go as well as Bungie’s teaser trailer for the weapon played out. In terms of balance, I don’t know how to feel as I still outgun it with the Lunas howl and other weapons.
Tumblr media
As far as reworks go, Golden Gun gets a huge damage boost against bosses, Blade Barrage is more consistent but weaker, Nova Bomb gets boosted, Nova Warp gets whacked, and all other supers get touches. Auto rifles, scout rifles, and rapid-fire sniper rifles deal more damage, Telesto is less monstrous in PvP, and… many things. Yet somehow One-Eyed Mask is still untouched (thankfully, yes I am a titan main). A few nice little touches are in too. The quest to get the previously touched in the earlier life of this pages posts, Whisper Of The Worm exotic sniper rifle is now available every day and through every Lost Oasis event, making it less elusive. Now the mystery has lifted a little, I’m glad more people will get to see one of the most interesting places in the game. Plus, Ballistics Logs to trade with Ada-1 aren’t wiped every week. And, most importantly out of everything covered today, the knife flip emote now loops endlessly.

Both Whisper and Zero Hour missions are coming back and both weapons will be craftable! Crying in the club!
Base versions will have double the time (40 minutes) and legend will have 20! They reworked boss fights (didn't tell us how) and some other stuff in the missions to make them fresh for veterans too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a god damn brig in Zero Hour now! But also! They kept the skybox so you can see the broken Traveler!
Tumblr media
And of course... The boy :)
Tumblr media
They also confirmed that they're returning the exotic ships that were associated with these, and that they will be slightly altered so that they're distinct from originals.
Can't wait to get back to these missions.

Making the Pit Area
On the 20th of September I began work on the pit section that would serve as the introduction to the gameplay within our game. I started by making the deferred decal textures that I would use to guide the player though the space. These were not difficult, and I quickly moved on to modelling the basic blocks I would be using to create the jumping puzzle. I knew I wanted to go for a simple geometric shape that was worn down and beaten about. This was inspired by the games Destiny and Destiny 2 where the Vex would have monolithic geometric structures constructed out of detailed, yet basic, primitive shapes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took a primitive cube, subdivided it, sculpted some dings and scrapes into it and added a single face bevel to the edges. This keeps with the theme of simplistic geometric shapes within the game but the damage, combined with a detailed material, gives the prop a clean, yet sophisticated look. They were often many times the size of the player in terms of scale and so added to the monolithic sense of hte game area.
All the cubes were aligned with the world space axis in units of 90 degrees. This helped on a practical level so that the cubes would line up flush to one another and it gave the whole scene a sense of order in relation to each other. There are two cubes, one 2x1 rectangle and four quarters of and 2x2x1 with a negative cylindrical hole. This piece means I can make curved ramps, arches, tubes or half, cylinder shapes.
I started by making a basic jumping route, tested it a bit and tweaked some distances and scales, added some more, and got team members to test it. The whole process was shorter than I expected, I got most of the structure done in a day or two and polished it in another day or two. This also meant that not only myself, but the team was happy with the layout. Level layout should not technically be my job anyway as an environment artist and not a gameplay designer, but I was happy to help.
Tumblr media
The tricky but was the lighting after. As the space is quite dark because of it being down a deep well, I wanted to play on the concept of having it so dark that the player can only see the essentials of the platforming experience, this would limit their need to explore and work well with the whole motif of the game where the player begins by falling into a pit of darkness and ends by being shot out of the top on into the blazing sunlight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, I looked to the Destiny games to see how they did some of thier dark levels, and I remembered a specific boss fight (the Sunless Cell Strike) where the three players have to fight in a completely dark cavern where the only light comes from the boss itself and players when they activate abilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our player character lights up when it uses abilities, but I knew that this would be ridiculous to require the player to move in order to see. I settled for framing key jumps with light (like how Wheatley does in portal 2)
Tumblr media
and guiding players with glowing particle clusters.
The biggest problem with this was the iris settings on the game camera. The desert by nature is  a bright place and my bottom of the well scene is about as close to absolute dark black as I can get. I could balance the exposure of the post processing volume to look current at low light but as soon as the camera looks at the pool of fluid ability pick up thing, the images would darken to compensate for the bright material. It was a water material which in the past ive found to have used emisive channels however, in this particular material, there was not emisive. It was not technically emitting any light, yet it was the brightest thing in the room. It still is as I havent found a fix for it yet. I tried replacing the empty node with 0 and that doesnt work. I tried having and internal space ppv and an external space ppv with exposure looked on both but i couldn't get those to balance out smoothly ether. The last thing I have left to try is to increase the ambient light level in the space with a couple of point lights and balance it out the exposure in the ppv. This would bring the values closer to what the exterior conditions would be as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was about this time we had the GDM playtest. I was manning another game project I was also part of but was right beside this project was well low key listening to feedback that was being given regarding the work i had done. That afternoon I had added the most light that area had ever had since I started working on it to the point where it was almost too bright for the tension I had planned. This was after that morning some of my colleagues started to complain that it was too dark as I think they were expecting a light and breezy platforming adventure without realising this was the darkest, lowest point of the sentient tower and of the game itself. We also added a point light to the player character that was always on and cast some slightly creepy shadows on the player characters face. So I would stand beside the game while watching another and hear a few players mention how dark it is. Then I would have three colleagues come up to me and get my attention and and tell me its too dark. And this would happen again, and and again and again. I would go home and come back the next day to work on something else and I would have three or so more people tell me by the way the level is too dark, fix it. I would go home for the weekend and have my phone periodically light up with chat to do with the project and, did you know, we had lots of people say the level is  too dark. I get to Uni on a Monday to add more light to the level. Before I get my laptop out to even open the project I get told the levels too dark, you might want to fix the lights in the first area, learn to light a level.
I finally get to edit the lighting in the level and find that its simply the settings form the build we used to showcase hadn't carried over from what I had designed.
This kind of communication behavior is unacceptable and beyond irritating. It try to be patient with my team and receive criticism well but I cannot stand constantly being told information I already know, especially without being able to do anything about it. I know this kind of thing never happened when I was leading Project Kowhai.
At the moment I am working on fixing the lighting for the entire map as the directional lights and dynamic sky blueprint from the GDM demo build are glitching. Once thats fixed I can add and balance the first scene like I had intended to do.

of madness and truth: the dark future details
i was going to do this in two sections cause i do wanna go through the present parts of the fic as well. mainly exactly why avia is torturing herself by wanting to see the simulation, why she decides to tell grier, and why osiris helps her. also, why osiris saw the simulation and what my perception of his opinions on toland are.
but im too excited to share all the dark future ideas i have so uhh here you go @mrpinstripesuit if you have anything to add please please go for it!!
man why do we like torturing our kids aha
(also i broke it down like, a lot a lot not to be patronising but because i didnt wanna overwhelm people with bullet points aha)
“I guess I’ll have to explain it to you, like usual,” Grier says. “Since we killed Oryx? Three years. Since you snuck into my throne world and tried to kill me? Two and a half years. Since you killed Toland and trapped yourself in the Hive Overworld? Two years.”
three years: back in ttk days, grier chose to become the taken king after they killed oryx, so the rest of the clan had to get out of dodge and leave him.
two and a half years: avia was very, very lost after that happened, and sought grier out by herself (and against the advice of literally everyone) just to talk to him. but, toland being the piece of shit he is, intercepted her and wouldn’t let them meet. then he convinced grier that she’d come to kill him and toland stopped her. avia then convinces herself that if she figures out how to kill toland, grier will be okay.
two years: in the split second after avia killed toland, in a complete panic grier trapped her in the overworld. he was the one who scratched the runes into the wall, theyre basically a strong but hurried version of the hive traps.
the scene itself, the timeline that present avia sees is set just after the events of d2, around the time the savathuns song strike would have been undertaken. it’s the first time they’ve spoken since avia killed toland, but avia knows grier was responsible for trapping her. him telling her that shes there because she killed toland is the first notion that he’s there to lie to her to get her on his side, because he’s in denial and needs to know if savathun is actually coming to the system. hes not sure he’s strong enough to take her on, so he needs avia to take on the role of toland (or something advantageous to him at least) to give him an advantage. so he lies through his teeth.
“Yes – no,” Avia retches. “The singing,” she spits. “All she does is sing and sing and I can’t take it anymore!”
“Who?” Grier asks, sharp. “Who sings, Avia?”
Avia’s mouth opens around a name, but then she stops, and lets out a dry laugh. She drops her hands and pulls her head up to look at Grier. “Oh. Oh, are you telling me you don’t know?”
“It’s nor Ir Yut,” Grier ruffles, but shakes himself and addresses her with all the manner of a teacher dealing with an uncooperative student. “She’s gone. It’s not his daughters either, and no ordinary Deathsinger on account of how far it stretches across the system. I have my suspicions but you, are the only one who knows.”
Avia pierces him with her eyes, unrelenting and patronising.
“You know,” she says. “You know who it is.”
grier is…….. fucked up. he had toland whispering in his ear that he was doing everything right and he was getting oh so powerful, whilst withholding information about whether either of the sisters would come and kill him bc its toland, all he cares about is the sword logic. if he was actually alive when they came he’d probably just watch grier die with a smile on his face.
then avia kills toland, and grier is so, so alone. all he has are the tablets of ruin, which explain the sword logic with such clarity, all the info that toland withheld from him, and he starts to get Worried. and then he hears savathuns song.
avia hears savathuns song, too. she actually started to gain control of herself in the hive overworld after she heard it. until then she was having all this information shoved into her head against her will. she knows a lot about the hive similarly to toland, because shes heard all these other songs and all this knowledge. she doesnt want to know, its far too much for her to handle, but she doesnt really have a choice.
but then savathuns song made her realise the best way to get griers attention, so she just started screaming. every now and then, the screams would affect griers throne world. and that’s when he decided to go to her, to try and manipulate her with all the tools toland had given him. he had a feeling she was transforming into something, but went into the conversation just trying to convince her that she needed to help him.
“If you’re right, if I’m a liar just like Toland was, then even if I told you how they all died on my doorstep, you wouldn’t even think I was telling the truth.” A tilt of his head, the white matted fringe dangles slightly, helplessly. “Would you?”
none of the clan are dead. the eos’s did try and get avia out after rook was patrolling the dreadnaught and heard her voice, screaming. he couldn’t convince the vanguard to deploy a mission cause there was just no proof that avia was alive after sneaking to the dreadnaught to kill toland.
carver used his Hidden talents to track her down, got as far as the room where she was but the hive were about to overrun them. carver knew that avia wouldn’t want them to die in a rescue attempt, so he gets himself and his wife and child out of there and regroups with the others. carina is mad about it, but her mum and dad aren’t giving up.
the only other member of the clan who’s seen grier is rook. after the eos’s got back, he figured fuck it and went to get avia, his heart too broken to have the same clarity that they did regarding if he died.
that part grier wasnt 100% lying about -- rook actually finds the room, and grier is waiting for him. it’s a close fight, grier gets the chance to kill rook in the end, take his ghost and crush it under his heel but. he cant. so he tells rook to run, and if he ever comes back he wont just kill him, but he’ll make avia do it. (more lies about avia not remembering who he is probably idk)
grier lying to avia about their clan mates dying isn’t something he went into the conversation knowing he’d do. he was getting pissed at her holding back info out of spite, and thanks to this little comic by pin I wanted to play with him bitterly making her more and more upset by lashing out in such a vile way. grier is a hard character to find faults for aha but his quick anger and bitterness were interesting to play with when I dialed them up to eleven.
avia’s biggest fear is getting the people she loves and cares about killed, and grier still retains enough of himself to know that. so he just kinda, finds that vein and twists and pulls at it until avia breaks down and believes that she’s all alone -- that it really is just them two now.
“I, I wouldn’t – no!” Avia yells, and the room shakes once more. Grier takes stock of it this time, his face twisting in amused curiosity as she rages on.
avia is turning into a deathsinger.
in my head her ahamkara claws loose their silver plates over time and eventually, some time after her and grier talk she hears the ahamkara/worm gods/whatever with a scary amount of clarity, amplified by the fact that shes trapped in the overworld. they just convince her that shes not a guardian anymore, that shes something better, something more powerful. she spent so long being a soldier, a fighter for a dying cause, wouldnt this be better? to forge her own path, to listen to the songs and become something greater?
eventually she’ll decide (or think that she decided) that grier’s the only person she can protect anymore, and begins to accept the transformation. she adopts the same powers, I guess, as oryxs daughters. being able to weave reality and bend it to her/griers will. she’s basically ‘griers deathsinger’. her grief and anger fuel how powerful she is.
(i love...... corruption tropes so yeah this is basically whats happening to her aha.)
its an ironic parallel also because as i said before, grier is alone with the tablets, and avia is alone with the ahamkara. but grier said it was just them. theyre both transforming and changing at the same time into things they dont necesarily want to be because they couldnt see the consequences of their actions after one decision was made. but, they do eventually come together, just them, as grier makes avia believe -- as its meant to be.
Afterwards
i like to think eventually the clan decides to take grier on together to try and save avia, but they just get taken one by one instead, basically becoming different members of griers court and only making him stronger. they’re all far, far too attached and know that theres most likely no coming back if they do this. but after the city falls, theres no better time. no vanguard to stop them, no mission protocol. they regather after ghaul attacks and all decide to strike out by themselves. but it goes horribly wrong.
avia’s full deathsinger transformation makes all of her armour look like the silver plated ahamkaras (because thats just her, in d1 they were my fave exotic and they’re very much a part of her character in that era for me) minus a helmet, and the silver is definitely more rusted. her eyes blacken over entirely and her cloak is massive and swishy and the hood almost covers her eyes, and thats in place of the skirt a deathsinger would normally have (a skirt just doesnt seem right for her aha)
avia becomes a very loyal, very cutthroat deathsinger. she’s literally at griers beck and call. like omnigul for crota, or as it said in the fic ir yut.

Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected guide
Tumblr media
The Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected is a return to the Outbreak Prime from the first Destiny. Like its ancestor, the Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected is opened through a hidden and troublesome journey much the same as the recently discharged Whisper of the Worm mission. The journey itself is the genuine article and it comes full circle in a planned mission set in the Old Tower, so we've assembled a total guide on the best way to begin the mission, open the mission, illuminate the numerous riddles en route, and beat the supervisor. Here's the means by which to get the Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected Exotic heartbeat rifle.
you have to finish the Enemy of ourour Enemy world journey on Titan. This should take less 30 minutes, so in the event that you haven't completed it yet, go thump it out - and make sure to do each of the three stages. When you have the transponder, you'll have to disentangle it utilizing six information hubs. These are altogether found in Fallen-themed Lost Sectors, with four in the EDZ and four on Nessus.
With that off the beaten path, load up the Bad Neighbors Adventure on Destiny 2. When you begin the segment loaded up with Hive, you'll go to a Shrieker drifting over a red-lit room. Go into the room and open the vault entryway on the left side. Go into the comms room and search for an associate brief on the correct side close to the front. The Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected is a return to the Outbreak Prime from the first Destiny. Like its antecedent, the Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected is opened through an undercover and troublesome journey much the same as the recently discharged Whisper of the Worm mission. The journey itself is apro and it finishes in a coordinated mission set in the Old Tower, so we've assembled a total guide on the best way to begin the mission, open the mission, settle the numerous riddles en route, and beat the manager. Here's the manner by which to get the Destiny 2 Outbreak Perfected Exotic heartbeat rifle. For more information please visit our site https://www.destinycarrieslfg.com/

A bunch of content is leaving Destiny 2 in November with the release of the Beyond Light expansion, making this your last chance to play a bunch of content and earn specific rewards, at least for a while. Among those rewards are a couple of the best guns in the game: Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected. Both require you to complete special missions to unlock them, and both of those missions will soon be shelved.
We've known that Bungie is cycling out some Destiny 2 content for a while now, and we've had some of the specifics ever since the announcement of the Beyond Light expansion. In its latest This Week at Bungie blog post, however, the developer made a bunch of smaller details a little clearer. Bungie explained that a bunch of activities will be going into the "Destiny Content Vault" to remove them from the game, and with those activities, their specific rewards will go too.
Four planetary destinations are headed into the vault in November: Io, Titan, Mars, and Mercury, as well as the Leviathan location, which is home to several raids. Anything associated with those places is going into the vault as well. Since The Whisper, the mission you need to complete to earn the phenomenal Exotic sniper rifle Whisper of the Worm, is found on Io, it's going into the vault, too, and Bungie says there won't be a new, separate way to earn the gun in the meantime.
