CINCINNATI CYCLONES ANNOUNCE PRESEASON SCHEDULE

The Cyclones will partake in three preseason games for the first time in franchise history, breaking away from the traditional norm of playing two contests. The 'Clones will host the Indy Fuel at Heritage Bank Center on Friday and Saturday, October 13-14, then venture to Wheeling for a Sunday 2 p.m. matinee on October 15, before hosting the Nailers on Saturday, October 21, to kick off the regular season! Both Friday and Saturday's preseason games against Indy will have a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at Heritage Bank Center. All tickets are available now and just $5.00 for the general public. Cyclones Season Ticket Holders will receive free admission to both home preseason games. The Cyclones will then go on to meet Indy seven times in the regular season while encountering the Nailers 10 times. Cincinnati is coming off a 103-point season as they clinched the 2022-23 Central Division title in the regular season with a 47-16-6-3 record. Indy finished third in the division, securing a playoff berth with a 43-24-5 mark to finish with 91 points. Wheeling Nailers' Web cam Brown draws extra motivation from stint in the AHL

Nailed It

When you think of the decade of the 1990s, what comes to mind? For younger people, not much as 1990 was some 28 years ago, but for slightly older generations - me included - what stands out when it comes to everything that happened in the 1990s? It would probably be on the list, but I'm not sure how high I would have ranked the television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The ECHL's Wheeling Nailers made that show a priority on Saturday night as they held '90s Night as part of their promotional schedule!

As seen to the right, the Wheeling Nailers skated out on '90s Night wearing uniforms designed by Jeff Tasca and produced by Athletic Knit that look identical to the background of the opening of Saved By The Bell and the logo looking somewhat like the lettering for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! These are pretty spectacular jerseys when it comes to the pop culture of the 1990s, and I think Jeff and Athletic Knit did an incredible job on these uniforms that not only have the design on the jerseys, but on the socks as well! With '90s Night looking exceptionally good thanks to the Jeff's vision and Athletic Knit's production, the only thing left in question was whether or not the Nailers could make it a memorable night on the ice! Did someone say "memorable"?

Alfonso Ribeiro was on-hand for the game between the Nailers and the Indy Fuel, and Mr. Carlton Banks broke out the Carlton Dance in dropping the puck! Ribeiro has always been a good sport when attending events and festivals about doing the "Carlton", and tonight was no different as he broke into character and made this ceremonial puck-drop entirely awesome! Well done, Alfonso! As always, there was a game to be played after all the '90s fun had subsided. The Nailers jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first period on the strength of goals by Chris Francis on the power-play, Kevin Schulze on the power-play, and Troy Josephs. The Fuel had tied the game at 1-1 when Johnny McInnis found the back of the net, but that would be the last time these two teams would be even. Darian Dziurzynski made it 3-2 on a backhander as the Fuel pulled within a goal in the second period, but Troy Josephs would score 38 seconds later to make it 4-2. Francis then made it 5-2 prior to the second intermission. Dziurzynski potted his second goal of the game in the third period, but Freddie Tiffels and Francis, who completed his hat trick, made it a 7-3 victory for the Wheeling Nailers on '90s Night! Adam Morrison picked up his tenth win of the season in a 26-save performance as Wheeling moved to nine games above .500 on the season! A big win, Carlton Banks doing the Carlton Dance, and some incredible '90s-esque jerseys made for one memorable night in Wheeling, Pennsylvania. I'd say they nailed it! Fort Wayne Komets Win 1-0 Goalie Duel Over Nailers

The Wheeling Nailers did a lot of things right on Friday night at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, as they peppered the opposition net with 40 shots, and allowed only one goal. Unfortunately, that one goal was the only one in the contest, as Jack Dugan of the Fort Wayne Komets battled the puck in at the 5:46 mark of the third period. Ryan Fanti and Taylor Gauthier were sensational in their respective creases, as Fanti recorded a 40-save shutout for Fort Wayne, while Gauthier denied 29 of 30 for Wheeling. The Nailers did a great job of controlling the play with a 15-6 shots advantage in the first period, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Fort Wayne began to generate more chances in the middle frame to a tune of 13-11, but the scoring drought continued. The deadlock was finally broken at the 5:46 mark of the third period. Jack Dugan of the Komets drove down the left side of the ice, then cut toward the goal. As he charged in, the puck bounced around, and ending up rolling in over the right side of the goal line. The play was reviewed, but the marker stood, putting the home side ahead, 1-0. Wheeling put 14 shots on net in the final stanza, but was unable to net an equalizer, as Fort Wayne held on for the triumph. Ryan Fanti earned his second shutout of the season for the Komets, as he thwarted all 40 shots he faced for the win. Taylor Gauthier turned in another great performance for the Nailers with 29 saves on 30 shots, but came up short in the decision. The Nailers and Komets will face-off in Fort Wayne again on Saturday at 7:30, before Wheeling continues its five-game road stretch next week in Iowa. The team's next home game is Education Day against the Indy Fuel on March 19th at 10:45 a.m. That will be the first of four straight home contests for the Nailers, which will also feature the next Big Six Promotional Game - Wizards & Wands on March 23rd. The first 2,500 fans at Wizards & Wands will receive a free wizard wand. There will also be acceptance letters to Wizarding School, specialty jerseys, Butter Beer, Quidditch, and more. Head Coach/General Manager Andrew Lord returns to lead the Swamp Rabbits for a fourth season following a third consecutive Kelly Cup Playoffs appearance this spring.
