Whatever happened to the Duchess of Devonshire? In the 1953 Eleanor Harris book, 'The Real Story of Lucille Ball', Lucy offered this excerpt to explain the reason for the departure of their pet cow from the ranch: "...it was the last straw when, one morning, she jumped a four foot fence, walked through a flower bed, and crashed through our bedroom window—in order to kiss Desi's face as he slept in bed." The following article that I found may further explain the bothersome bovine's bad behavior: 'She had a cow for a while, had raised it from a calf and couldn't understand why it began acting so strangely. Her handy man sheepishly informed her that the Duchess had reached the age when–well, when it ought to be introduced to the nice, gentlemanly bull who was living a mile down the road. "But she's just a baby!" wailed Lucille and later, with trembling lips, stood leaning over the fence rail as the Duchess philosophically–or was it eagerly?—waddled down the lane to keep her date with destiny. Lucille went to visit the Duchess sometime later, but she didn't like the change that had come over her. Something about the gleam in her eye. RIP Pete Shelley. "Ever Fallen In Love" is the first ever Buzzcocks song I remember hearing and fell full on in love with everything about them. They led me into so many other Brit punk bands but besides Pete Shelley's unmistakable vocals, look, and aesthetic he shines as such a stellar songwriter and from everything I have read and seen on interviews such a lovely man. So sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his friends and family and all loved ones. Whatever Happened To ... The Father Who Wants To Undo The Child Marriage He Set Up?

Lumbaram married his 15-year-old daughter to a man who was in his 40s and had a reputation as a heavy drinker. It was part of a family trade. That same night, Lumbaram made a vow to her: "I will fix this."

It was a daunting challenge. To break the marriage, Lumbaram would need permission from a group of elders. Typically they require a father who wants to end a match to pay the husband's family a fine of about $7,000 — an unaffordable sum for Lumbaram, who makes his living as a construction worker. Ending the marriage without the elders' signoff was technically possible. After all, the elders have no legal authority. But they would have declared Lumbaram ostracized for life if he were to act without their approval. No one would do business with him. Even his relatives wouldn't be able to talk to him.

So Lumbaram set about playing a long game. First, he used the boarding school as an excuse to delay the start of Durga's life with her husband, telling him, "As long as she's getting a free education I won't send her to live with you." Lumbaram was able to keep the groom at bay even as Durga went on to graduate from high school and enroll in a local college.

Now, I remember this band & the song "All I Want Is Affection", catchy beat and lyrics. ~Hope Elle~💋 Artist Biography by Alex Henderson Best known for their 1985 hit "Everybody Dance," Ta Mara & the Seen were among the many acts that came out of Prince's Minneapolis funk/rock scene in the 1980s -- a scene that the Time, Morris Day, Sheila E., Jesse Johnson's Revue, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6 and Mazarati and the Family were also associated with. Lead singer Ta Mara was born in Kenitra, Morocco and lived there as a child before moving to Minneapolis with her family at the age of seven. Growing up in Minneapolis, the singer learned to play several instruments, including piano, guitar, and drums. After reaching adulthood, she started working with local acts such as the Doug Maynard Band and the T.C. Jammers. Ta Mara also had her own band, which was eventually named the Seen and included bassist Keith Woodson, guitarist Oliver Leiber, keyboardist Gina Fellicetta, and drummer Jamie Chez. In the early '80s, Ta Mara caught the attention of Time guitarist Jesse Johnson, who helped Ta Mara & the Seen get a deal with A&M and produced their self-titled debut album in 1985. The funky "Everybody Dance" became a major hit, but unfortunately, Ta Mara & the Seen would go down in history as one-hit wonders. In 1988, Johnson produced their second A&M album, Blueberry Gossip, which was a commercial disappointment and received very little attention. Ta Mara & the Seen's second album turned out to be their last; dropped by A&M, the band broke up in 1989 without ever recording a third album. Ta Mara & the Seen and Blueberry Gossip are both out of print.
