The Pathways Novel is the holy grail of young Tuvok characterization because I can just sense so clearly through the page how insufferable he would be to talk to
#and let me tell you? insufferable IS affectionate with a million hearts drawn around it#A girl confessed her love to him and he basically grabbed her by the shoulders and said Sophie....please get ahold of yourself!#Remember WWJD!! and she has to be like '.....y e ah ok. yeah. sorry.' and then they parted ways forever#Tuvok at the monastery observing the other initiates like I'm the only one who /really/ gets what we're going for here but who am I to judge#I think the line is something like 'Tuvok despised what he thought to be the partaking in unncessary luxuries but he trusted that the elders#knew best'#I think Tuvok's life is just going through different particular types of Difficult-To-Talk-To#crybaby kid to know it all teen to wannabe priest to holier than thou initiate to when-I-was-your-age dad#then he FINALLY started chilling the hell out#AH I keep saying 'monastery' its a temple#I love Tuvok him being earnestly annoyed by others has fine-wined into dry remarks while definitely NOT rolling his eyes#Tuvok cares SO much is the thing. <3 guy who is full of not-love#Guy who makes terrible horrendous first impressions but then eventually worms his way into your heart (VERY unintentionally hes NOT trying)#It'd be funny if everyone liked T'Pel right away in contrast hehe...<3#Tuvok's parents' characterizations in that book are NOT canon to me though#also there's a funny moment where Tuvok is complaining about how their sons are (in his opinion) not disciplined enough#and when he looks to T'Pel for her opinion she's just fallen asleep#and he considers waking her up despite the fact that she JUST gave birth before going hmm.....better not.#Wise Choice Friend HEHEHEH....g od...dumbass <3

They completely missed the point of sophie's character
Sophie was an arrogant,selfish and a narcissistic person behind her sweet facade who didn't believe herself to be evil,who did terrible things including murder as her anger grew. movie sophie on the other hand? She's the "posessed victim" that the mainstream seems to be obsessed with these days
Making her an outcast with agatha was an odd choice,sophie didn't want to get away from a town who hated her,she was tired of her normal life and wanted to go the school of good because she thought that's what she deserves
She did good things (including being friends with agatha) just to change her school not because that she was a nice person,she discovered her evilness and powers on her own not because of rafal (who literally was supposed to remain in the bts and not let Sophie fail instead of brainwashing her) we as audience do know that she really is evil deep down and why rafal saw her potential despite her denial. The movie makes you wonder that what did rafal even see in her? She's a very sympathetic person in the film who goes through hell
She is a great friend towards aggy and only turned against her because of rafal's influence,the scene where she accuses agatha for stealing everything from her feels cheap because there is no build up;she was simply upset and seemed to forgive agatha while reading her letter,while in the book we saw how her jealousy grew over the time to the point she attacked everyone several times and killed all of the wolves and fairies but she barley hurts anyone in the movie,heck one of the first signs of her evilness is when she drowns the beast after he cuts her hair,but in the movie it was lady lesso for some reason and it only makes us feel sorry for sophie. Completely erasing it's meaning. A weak attempt to make her seem like a "bad bitch" in the aftermath when we were supposed to see her true colors
Sophie was such a complicated and complex character but they managed to remove her agency in her own story

Bridgerton drabble: A Princess Diaries AU
Tumblr media
Part #1 Sophie’s Choice.
A belated birthday gift for @bridgertonbabe and @sophiebernadotte
Wasn’t life as a princess supposed to be fair? Or maybe not fair, that might be the wrong word. She was privileged, she knew that… even if she had only known she was a princess for a few short years.
Royalty led lives that were in the public eye, normally having been raised in that environment, but here she was… sitting in a country that she’d only known about for 4 years, listening to her grandmother scolding her for jeopardising the wedding that was to take place in a few days time, which would then lead onto her coronation a week after that and it was all Sophie could do not to throw up or cry because she knew her grandmother was right… she had ruined everything.
She’d always dreamt she’d marry for love, that she’d find a man that made her stomach fizz, give her butterflies, that would make her heart skip a beat and her palms sweaty and her feet pop when she kissed him. She wanted the kind of love her mother had told her about, that her mother had experienced but due to the unfairness of her situation, it was an arranged marriage or lose her throne. Those were her options.
A throne that until she turned 16, she had known nothing about.
She had been blissfully unaware that her father had been a Prince… Prince of a tiny country in the middle of the Italian and French sea. Her mother had kept it from her, taking that secret with her to her grave.
Her mother had died 10 weeks before Sophie’s 16th birthday, which was the day her entire life changed.
She’d been stopping with her best friend Kate Sharma and Sophie had been in English when the poshest woman Sophie had ever seen in her life came in and dropped the bombshell of all bombshells on her over a cup of tea…
Which she promptly spat all over her “grandmother's” face.
She was a princess.
A bastard princess but a princess nonetheless, and the only living descendant of the Gunningworth line.
Her father, Richard, had passed away 9 months earlier and to Sarah’s knowledge he had been childless.
It was only after discovering something in her late-husband’s writing desk, did she learn that there was in fact an heir.
Her.
Sophie was saving the country from being taken over by the Cavender’s. Their son Phillip had a terrible temper and an even worse reputation at just 17 years old and had once been rulers of their own lands until the people revolted and won back their lands and banished the Cavender’s but their royal blood was connected to Penwood and now it was Sophie, or the Cavender’s and Sarah was determined that her throne would not pass into their hands.
She had learned that Reginald had sent Esme away when she was pregnant with Sophie, he didn’t want a child out of wedlock and he certainly didn’t want the Crown Prince, only Heir to the Throne marrying a commoner and so she’d been paid off and shipped off back to England. He provided money monthly to keep Esme quiet and Esme had been promised that she and her unborn child would be left alone and the secret of Sophie’s birth went to the grave with her.
Reginald had known about Sophie and he had been working out how to tell his wife that they did in fact have an heir and where they could find her, and what had happened, his own guilt weighing in after he’d pressured Richard into a marriage with a woman that bore no children between them other than two step-children who could not inherit the throne but when Reginald died 3 months after Richard it had thrown a spanner in the works as he’d not gotten around to telling Sarah the truth.
Sophie was dumbfounded.
Sarah was Regent, as they had their heir but she was underage and she was able to prevent Cavender getting his hands on the crown.
Since Sophie was underage she would learn the role, but upon turning 20 Sophie was told she’d have to take over the throne, she would get 6 months post her 20th birthday to marry and be crowned Queen otherwise, Cavender would take over.
So Life changed.
Gone were the days she was invisible, where she could blend into the background with Kate, sitting laughing about Shakespere and just being a teenage girl to…
Being a Princess.
She stayed in school but Kate was almost glued to her side. She worked at her studies, she travelled back and forth between the countries as she learned.
Once she was 18, Sophie moved to Penwood and Kate and her family came with her, they’d been her family when she had no one else and Kate wanted to work with Sophie, for Sophie as part of her staff once she’d graduated from University.
And Sophie knew from the moment she moved to her new home that she wanted to be Queen, that she would do anything to be Queen. Her beautiful country that she was learning to love, the rich culture and history that was hers to protect and nourish and the more time she spent there, the more she got to know the people, the more she knew she wanted to be Queen.
So between her studies, her Queen lessons with her Grandmother and getting to know the country’s leaders, she was starting to look for a husband.
Not just any husband, she needed someone titled, not in line for their own throne, someone who understood her importance as Queen. Someone harmless, inoffensive, who would stand there by her side and be a pillar of strength and a symbol but would let Sophie lead.
She would be Queen, and she knew finding a husband would be hard but she had time… or so she’d assumed. She was only 18 after all, she had two years. How hard could it be?
From the moment the plane touched down, Sophie knew that whatever she’d thought her life was going to be like, nothing compared to the circus it was becoming
.
18 turned into 19 and Sophie had still not found someone that she wanted to marry, any male around her age that would be eligible was not interested in marriage, any man she met at a bar knew who she was and wanted a piece of her as a trophy.
She was to be Queen… Everyone knew that. “Your highness, you must know there isn’t a man on this planet who isn’t interested in marrying you, but it is finding the right person for you who will make your everyday life easier, who makes the mundane fun and who makes you smile” her Prime Minister Edmund Bridgerton had told her as the days got closer to her 20th birthday and she had still not found someone to be her husband, time was running out and she was getting desperate.
“That is all well and good my Lord but I have 6 months, we have 6 months to make this work or everything has been in vain” Sophie sighed during their weekly meeting. Sophie loved meeting her prime minister, They had joked on a number of occasions it was a shame that his title came with his position and didn’t transfer to his children since he had eight of them and the two eldest boys were a little older than Sophie and Kate, she’d yet to meet Benedict who was off travelling and studying and she got on well with Anthony, who was training to take over from Charlie as the Royal Household Chief of Security once Sophie ascended to the throne.
The little wrinkle there was Anthony was dating Kate. Kate was working up to the role of Chief of Staff within the palace and eventually they would run the palace between them and despite their prickly start, Sophie thought they were perfect for one another but it served as an almost daily reminder that she didn’t have that and she needed that. 6 months to fall in love, marry to become Queen…
“There are other ways around it, your grandmother is reluctant to bring it up because she knew how much you wanted to find someone the traditional way but there is always an arranged marriage, I am sure between Ms Gibbons, your grandmother and my wife Violet, they’ll be able to come up with a list of possibilities for you. Aim for friendship first, it worked for your grandmother… love everything else, it is lovely but friendship and companionship will hold you in just as good a stead” Edmund explained
“That’s easy for you to say, you married the love of your live and have 8 children” Sophie replied flippantly but sighed “but I shall think about it, it is likely to be the only option”
“Speaking of my children…” Edmund grinned and Sophie rolled her eyes
“Smooth… what are they after this time?”
“It’s nothing actually just Benedict is back from his travels eventually this weekend after being away for the last two years studying and he is on the last portfolio for his masters and I was wondering if perhaps as a small favour we could add him to your official photographers list up to the coronation and allow him to capture some more… candid photos of the next few months”
“Why not, some candid ones will be lovely I guess after all the formal things…” Sophie said “and i’ll make sure there is a ticket to my 20th birthday party for him as well, if he is back in time that is, it would be nice to meet another of your ridiculous brood. but I will give some thought to your suggestion, having some of those possible bachelors come to the party and meet them…” Sophie sighed.
But after the events of her 20th birthday, Sophie had known it was time.
The only person she’d met the night of her birthday party, the only person she’d felt a connection with had been someone she knew she had no chance with.
She’d been walking through the party, trying to get away from Prince Hans and his incessant staring, as well as Lady Rosamund who was making snide quiet remarks about how it should be her that was going to be queen when Sophie had run straight into a stranger stomping straight on his foot, the most handsome stranger she’d ever met.
It was only after she’d danced and flirted with him and spoke to Kate, did she realise that it was Benedict Bridgerton and it had broken her heart almost instantly.
She’d assumed he was one of the many suitors her grandmother had invited for to meet so to realise who he was, that he was untitled, he was, despite being the son of a Lord, not someone Sophie could ever hope to get to know on a more intimate and romantic level… she knew based on the rules that had been set out for her future husband, it was a no go.
So the morning after her party, she’d called Kate, her grandmother, Ann Gibbons the current chief of staff and Mary and said “it’s time”
A week later she was sitting in the palace movie room with the screens up, profiles up as she looked through all the eligible bachelors that would be interested in an arranged marriage.
Two hours it had taken, going through picture after picture before Sophie had spotted one.
Yes he was a second son but he fit the bill where no one else did. He was the second son of a Duke. His older brother was already married and had twins, their line was secure, he was a Sir. He had a title, a ceremonial one but all the same…
Sir Phillip Crane was everything that Sophie had been looking for.
He was the same age as she was, he was academic, he was cute. He was someone that Sophie could see herself being at least friends with…
It was a start.
And it had turned out Phillip was everything that Sophie could have hoped for. He was kind, he was funny and they seemed to have a lot in common and Sophie knew she’d made the best possible choice…
Or she would have thought so if it wasn’t for Benedict being everywhere she went.
She’d forgotten about her agreement with the Prime Minister and being Anthony’s brother, and he seemed to get on really well with Kate. he was always there.
The torment Sophie felt was horrible, she felt attracted to Benedict in a way she knew she’d never be attracted to Phillip but she knew that she could never be with Benedict and have the life she so desperately wanted.
She wanted to be Queen, she wanted to rule this country that she’d learned so much about, that she was so passionate about and she was close to mucking it all up.
Two weeks before the wedding it all came to a head when during the summer party, Sophie had slipped away from Phillip, leaving him with Kate and Benedict’s sister Eloise as she wanted to get out of her head. Cavender’s son had been lurking and making lurid remarks about her and she just wanted 5 minutes.
She’d given her ladies maids the slip, and was just sitting on the edge of the fountain, trying not to hyperventilate.
She’d not seen Benedict at all during the party, he was employed during these events to take photos as part of her agreement with his father and she knew that it was the last thing she needed. Whilst she desperately craved him to soothe her frayed nerves, she knew being around him was making it worse.
They’d had many a spirited debate about Bryon, about poetry and art and she always seemed to know when he appeared, her skin tingled and pricked but he knew as well as she did, that whatever there was between them, wasn’t possible.
With the way the rules of the country where, fate was destined to keep them apart.
But that day… he’d caught her unaware, they’d given into a moment of weakness and kissed.
It was only when Sophie’s beloved dog Bernie, had come running through the fence with voices behind him, that they’d separated and in their shock at nearly being caught, they had tumbled into the fountain.
It had been the start of her downfall.
She’d confined Kate how she felt about Benedict, how she wished things could be different and she knew that Benedict had felt the same and how she couldn’t have him around her anymore because it was breaking her heart.
Benedict had agreed to step away, to leave his position because he knew the country needed Sophie more than he did and he would never have forgiven himself to do anything that would have ruined her dream to be Queen,
But he’d asked if he could see her one last time before he left, before he walked away and Sophie would marry Phillip and Sophie had agreed as long as no one found out.
But someone had found out. Someone had overheard and warned the press that if someone followed the Prime Minister’s son… they would find a scandal.
And whilst it wasn’t as big of a scandal as it could have been, Sophie and Benedict had just talked, shared a kiss or two, they’d fallen asleep under a tree in the grounds of the castle and it was upon waking that they’d been spotted…
And Sophie was sure her life was going to fall apart.
Sarah yelled at her for over an hour about it, about how she should not be sneaking out and despite the fact she knew how her granddaughter felt about him, she could see how devastated Sophie was about the choice.
Heart or country.
It was a choice she’d known all too well but Sophie knew what she wanted.
What was required of her… it was just a matter of if Phillip would still want to marry her.
“Phillip wait, please! Let me explain! Nothing happened” Sophie said as she ran after Phillip a few hours later after he’d arrived at the palace so they could talk.
“Yes but you went Sophie, you still went didn’t you?” he replied, his voice was strangely calm and not angry and Sophie wasn’t sure if she’d rather he’d been angry or not “I don’t think you understand… despite my geekiness as the press back home call it, I am an extremely eligible bachelor” he said, though Sophie could tell he cringed a bit at the words, knowing he didn’t like to big himself in that way. “I really am. I’ve got plenty of friends, lots of lovely… erm women friends” he said gesturing as they looked at one another
“But i… I still think marriage is a good idea.” he said and Sophie looked up at him in disbelief as Phillip’s face softened as they looked at one another,
“Sophie…” he said, before taking a step forward, placing his hands on either side of her face and kissing her.
It was the first time they’d properly kissed, it had been a brief kiss on the lips when they’d gotten engaged, the same on the balcony when they announced their engagement several weeks ago and as kisses went…
It was the most awkward kiss either of them had ever experienced.
It was like kissing a sibling. It was so awkward Sophie was sure the entire world stopped moving and she could hear the cows in the field several miles away Mooing…
Eventually Phillip pulled away and Sophie with her eyes still shut brought her hand to her lip to almost wipe the kiss off as she had Phillip looked at one another again
“So?” he asked “anything?” already anticipating the answer.
“It was lovely… just… there was no…” Sophie said
“Spark?” they said at the same time and Sophie groaned as she knew what the right thing to do was.
“What are we going to do?” Sophie said her voice breaking a little as she felt herself close to tears. The wedding was a few days away, she’d come this far and now she’d thrown it all away.
Phillip sighed and took a step forward putting an arm around Sophie’s waist, rolling his eyes as the security guards shovelled up the stairs behind them
“No privacy…” Sophie grumbled.
“Sophie… you chose me… and I accepted” he said pressing an almost brotherly kiss on her head “I accepted and so we’re going to stand up in the church next week and say “I do” and become man and wife… and then you’re going to be crowned Queen of Penwood and make the most amazing Queen in the history of this great country” he said tenderly, honestly and a smile on his face that made Sophie feel like perhaps everything could be okay.
“Thank you” she whispered as she kissed his cheek as she smiled back at him.
This was it. Her choice had been made. Country and Duty over her heart. Phillip was a good man and she could do a lot worse…

Eight deadly sins: Bridgerton partners edition
Companion piece to my 8 deadly sins Bridgerton siblings edition. So let's get started
Kate: Wrath
I think I chose her as Wrath because its the driving force behind most of her actions in TVWLM. Take playing pall mall, she doesn't want to win, she just wants Anthony to lose. Anthony pisses her off so much during their book that her almost in perpetual state of annoyance drives most of the actions she takes and also, it is often mentioned in later books, how much Anthony dreads making his wife angry. If you ask me, out of both of them it's Kate who has a tiny bit of an anger management problem. ( She's capable of ruining Maria Rosso whole career in a pique of annoyance, just sayin)
Sophie: Lust
Self explanatory. Sophie spent her entire book acutely aware that her lust for Benedict was a particularly terrible weakness of hers and as such she guarded herself against sleeping with him with all trough thick and thin. So much that when she does fall into bed with Benedict it makes her feel like she betrayed herself and makes her want to immediately run away from the situation.
Penelope: Pride
Penelope's pride was what ultimately led to her downfall. So proud of Lady Whistledown, so happy to have made a name for herself right under the ton's nose, so confident nobody would ever figure it out. Penelope likes being the smartest person in the room, she likes the invisible power her secret gives her. So much that the moment Cressida tried to take credit for LW Penelope's pride wouldn't let her get away with it! And her hurt pride also leads her to lash out at Colin when he discovers her secret. It's her life work! She's not going to let anyone minimize what she's achieved
Simon: Vanity
He does think he's hottest snack in the room and needs protection from matchmaking mamas. No Seriously all jokes aside, for someone that insecure, he does have a very high opinion of himself that borders on vanity. Simon has worked all his life to build his public image, to hide the parts of him that his father deemed undersirable and cultivate an image of aristocratic aloofness. It's Daphne seeing past all that, which makes Simon break character and start liking her
Phillip: Sloth
More like, he was content with the bare minimum, before Eloise came into his life. Most of Phillip's sins in TSPWL can be blamed on inaction, some because he didn't know what to do,(deal with the aftermath of Marina's death) others because he was too passive to actually do what needed to be done (take charge of the raising of his children) Phillip is content with inaction, with isolation and distance. That's all he's ever known. At least until Eloise lights a fire under him and pushes him to make things right
Michael: Gluttony
I guess I put Michael in this category because Gluttony is the sin of overindulgence and he's the merry rake. Michael is an overindulgent person, not just in Francesca's eyes, but also in the eyes of everyone else. Which makes it ironic that the only thing he's had restraint in, has been his desire for Francesca.
Gareth: Greed
His greed comes in good faith okay. We still love him. But truth be told he still has to replenish his family fortune by marrying an heiress and he's still looking for the family diamonds for this reason. Gareth's greed is ultimately channeled into healthy outlets but we all know that had lady Danbury left him to his own devices, he would undoubtedly have married for money
Lucy: Envy
Like Gregory, Lucy ended up getting envy by process of elimination. Which is fitting considering that while she doesn't Envy anyone's life, she does envy the fact that they have a choice in the outcome of said life. Lucy's entire life has been controlled by her uncle while Hermione and Gregory did grow up with families that let them have a choice in how they wanted their lives to be. Even Richard has more choices than she does. And Lucy envies them for this. Not to the point of wishing anyone ill, but yes to the point of trying to make sure the people she loves don't squander the chances they got, because she doesn't get to have those chances
An: honestly this post was hard because I do think all the Bridgerton partners are Angelic beings who have done nothing wrong. Still I did my best with the prompt

assigning taylor swift songs to bridgerton couples (part 1)
with explanations that no one asked for (proceed with caution)
part 2 for e, f, g and h
so i’ve been going kinda crazy about bridgerton the past few weeks, i read (and reread) all eight books and at some point while reading i couldn't stop trying to find taylor songs in my mind which would fit each couple. so i chose two songs for every pair, some of these have actual thought behind them, others are mostly based on vibes. i hope you enjoy this unhinged tangent <3
anthony & kate - i was actually reading gregory’s book when this completely genius thought hit me - treacherous IS the kanthony song. i mean it starts with “put your lips close to mine as long as they don’t touch”. insert a picture of any one of the hundred times they almost kissed in the show. even the build up of the song reminds me so much of the slow burn we had in the series. also lyrics like “i hear the sound of my own voice asking you to stay” (anthony being “what?? no!!! you can’t go back to india. wtf do you mean you’re not staying once edwina marries???”),  “and all we are is skin and bone trained to get along forever going with the flow but you're friction” through the lens of kanthony i see this line as them just constantly aggravating each other.
the second song for them is dancing with our hands tied. i hadn’t thought about this song in a criminally long time. oh boy. (i also just now realised how long this post is gonna be) “i, i loved you in secret, first sight, yeah we love without reason” i’m sorry but these dumb bitches were in love since that first fateful early morning horse ride you can’t convince me otherwise. “people started talking, putting us through our paces // but we were dancing, dancing with our hands tied, hands tied” this screams when they got caught and were forced to marry in the book. their hands were tied - they had no other choice but to marry but they were dancing because they actually did love each other (awww). other than that there are two lines that sort of go hand in hand - “i loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us” and “i'm a mess, but i'm the mess that you wanted” in my head this is from anthony’s perspective. him dealing with his fear of morality and losing kate and while kate does have the eldest daughter syndrome, anthony is the bigger mess of a person in the relationship.
benedict & sophie - enchanted is a no brainer, it needs no explanation. now for their second song i picked the lakes. this resides in the vibes category. listening to this i can’t help but imagine benophie living an artsy quiet life in my cottage. i’m actually interested to see how their living situation will play out in the show because i feel in the books benedict wasn’t as involved in the ton. i guess it’s just a bit hard for me to envision show!ben being so chill about moving to some place in the middle of nowhere.
colin & penelope - of course, dress. i listened to this on repeat while reading the whole book in one sitting. honestly a marvellous experience, can’t recommend enough . for the second song i had to go looking, had to travel far like colin one might say. and once i arrived in the long forgotten country of taylor’s debut album i found a piece of music so clearly polin coded that it’s baffling this fandom isn’t talking about it. the song in question is  i’m only me when i’m with you. it feels silly to explain this one because being from taylor’s early career the lyrics aren’t terribly clever so let’s focus on the chorus. “i'm only up when you're not down, don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground” some people want colin to be just ken in the show but i actually really liked how they both have a career in writing at the end of the book (penelope better had published the book she started writing). “the other half i'm only trying to let you know that what i feel is true and i'm only me when i'm with you” you can’t tell me this isn’t colin telling penelope she is beautiful over and over again and how much he loves him because he was a fool not to realise it sooner. while in the book penelope feeling like she is truly confident and herself around colin, i think in the show this line works from colin’s side just as well.
daphne & simon - while most of the fandom has crowned wildest dreams as the saphne anthem (taylor’s version), i just couldn’t get behind it. yes, they used the song in their season but in my mind it just does not embody their relationship. firstly, the great war, i mean the first line “my knuckles were bruised like violets”. simon… boxing… you see the connection, right? okay, i promise it gets (even) better. “and maybe it's the past that's talking, screaming from the crypt. telling me to punish you for things you never did” in case of simon, he was hanging on to his hate towards his father and refusing to have kids with daphne, punishing her while it wasn’t her fault what had happened to him as a child. “somewhere in the haze, got a sense i’d been betrayed” i hate this part of their stroy (i do not condone daphne’s actions) yet i can so clearly picture simon still partly on his high of pleasure but starting to realise what daphne had done to him. i think i like this as their song because well they both were all kinds of wrong in this situation and at the end of the song it’s acknowledged “there's no morning glory, it was war, it wasn't fair” and still it has a happy ending just like saphne. their second song was hard to find and i’m not a hundred percent sure about it but a present to you so it goes…  “all eyes on us, you make everyone disappear” - season 1, episode 1 “stare into my eyes”. i felt i needed to give them a sexy song and i do feel like it matches their sexual tension but this one is definitely up for debate.

am i the only one that thinks that grady and edaline are genuinely not good parents?
like, they treated brant in a horrible way for years. letting him sleep on the floor and only visiting him once a year. he could've gotten hurt, and then what? he had a partially broken mind, for god's sake! (obviously, i'm ignoring the fact that brant is a traitor, seeing as they didn't know that yet.) they let jolie get engaged at far too young an age (she was seventeen. years. old. who lets their daughter get engaged at seventeen years old???). "she was in love with brant, so they were getting married!" she can be in love with brant and still get married at a reasonable age. grady and edaline should've instead fully endorsed their romantic relationship while making it clear that getting married at the ripe old age of twenty is still a terrible life choice, bad match or not.
grady is known to punch windows when he's angry. he gives sophie that boys talk as a punishment. not because he wanted to educate her or anything. he actively shipped sophie and dex, even when, as a parent, he shouldn't've meddled in sophie's affairs unless she'd come him for advice or something.
edaline is a classist in the first book, and based on some things she says in the later books, it's clear she still holds these views despite being handed every opportunity to change. despite being directly related to not one, but two bad matches, she still has these opinions. yes, she's a noble, but it still makes no sense.
it's subtle, but they aren't the perfect angels the fandom makes them out to be.

Word Count: 1,422
Warnings: Angst & Abuse. In particular, religious/cult abuse. Death, dying, and trauma after a near-death experience.
Author's Notes: This one should be called "exposition upfront, party in the next chapter" lol. I got really into Davina Claire's character and where she's at emotionally/mentally during Season 1, Episode 16-17 of the Originals. This chapter was supposed to be longer but I have to finish this scene later on in the month after a trip I'm taking.
Please feed me comments, hearts, and reblogs if you liked this 🌹You can find me on A03 as accidentalslayer.
Pairing: Yandere!Elijah & Klaus Mikaelson x Fem!Reader (eventually)
Summary: Davina Claire struggles to acclimate herself to the land of the living after her sudden resurrection. She feels betrayed, broken, and beyond repair. The young witch is refusing to do any spells for herself or others. After all, helping people (and vampires) with magic is what got her into this mess in the first place. Davina isn't going to be let off the hook that easily, though...
Because something big *really* wants her attention.

Chapter Two: Jonah's Whale (Part One)
"Davina..."
As a "French Quarter" witch, Davina Claire knew the voices of the Ancestors. While being trained for the Harvest Ritual, she'd been taught to listen to them speak. Their words had been a welcome presence in her life at first. They'd tell her things any teenaged occultist aspired to hear: that she would be a powerful sorceress one day, that she retained a great destiny within their Coven, that her sacrifice was the pride of her earthly mother, and the absent father she'd never met...
That giving herself freely unto the ritual was the right thing to do by her community.
She'd been naive. So very naive!
"Davina..."
Those saccharine voices had led her like a spring lamb to slaughter. It wasn't until Elder Bastianna, wielding an athame, began slitting the throats of her friends that Davina realized the terrible truth. Her Ancestors had lied. Her Coven had lied. Her own mother, who'd raised her the best she could, had lied. They'd all lied! And for what?! To uphold tradition? To preserve their power? To appease a bunch of deceased practitioners who'd forgotten how precious and sacred life was?! Davina made a solemn vow during her time sequestered away from the Coven in St. Anne's attic. She vowed to listen to herself. To trust ONLY herself. No witch or vampire or werewolf or human, not even God in Heaven, would sway her choices ever again.
On the night that Sophie Deveraux finished the Harvest Ritual, the woman had asked Davina if she "believed" in it's magic. She'd replied with a shaky "I believe" just before Sophie lifted up the dagger and sacrificed her. What Davina wished she could have said in that awful moment was that she believed in herself. Finally! And that she wished she would've done so sooner.
"Davina Claire..."
Belief in herself. That's what Davina took with her when she'd entered Limbo. It was that very belief that The Ancestors punished her for. The instant Davina's spirit crossed over, they'd banished her to a cold, dark, endless abyss. One without light or warmth. Methodically, those ancestral voices that had once encouraged Davina, now tore her up to shreds. Savagely. Mercilessly. Until Davina didn't know if she could trust in anything (much less herself) anymore. By the end of their lesson, the Ancestors had her curled into a fetal position and mumbling 'I'm sorry' on loop. Her apologies, however, were meaningless to them. The voices of the Ancestors did not forgive nor forget. Their sole response was to threaten Davina with more pain and anguish and sorrow:
'You have betrayed your kin for monsters and the undead! And if you use your magic in a way that dishonors us again, Davina Claire, we will ensure your place in Hell. That is our vow to you!'
It was the last, awful thing she'd heard in that void before her resurrection. Suddenly, Davina found herself back in her bed, in the attic, hidden inside the sanctuary of St. Anne's church. She might've forgotten the whole thing if she hadn't woken up still covered in her death shroud. No amount of incense, candles, or soaps were going to erase the memories and horror of what she'd been through since turning sixteen. There wasn't going to be a "getting back" to "herself" because Davina had changed. Irrevocably.
Being undead, Marcel would never understand what change meant. He was eternally frozen in time since before she'd been born. It was a foreign concept to him.
"Davina Claire!"
He tried to, though. Everyone tried to. Everyone had their two cents to contribute. Marcel said it was something that he knew Davina could "push past" and "conquer." Cami said she needed to go see a trauma-informed therapist. Father Kieran muttered something under his breath, then said God was with all of his children. Hayley said it was 'just another Tuesday in New Orleans'. And Josh (whom Davina immediately called once she'd gotten back her phone) said a quote from Lord of the Rings before he started crying and "thanking fuck" that she was alive. All of these voices. These people's opinions. Nothing they told her made Davina feel better despite how hard they attempted the opposite. She was done with listening to them. Done with helpful voices. Done with her friends. Done with the Ancestors...
Done with doing magic.
Just done.
Unfortunately, magic wasn't done with her. She was still a Harvest Girl and bound to the French Quarter Coven. As soon as the witches heard of her resurrection, they demanded Davina's return. Celebrated it even! Like they hadn't spent half a year trying to end her life (or worse). Because The Originals were in the mood to broker peace and Marcel had lost all of his pieces on the New Orleans chessboard, Davina found herself being driven to The Cauldron; placed back into the foul hands of her abusers, to live within a compound for mages in training where she was monitored day and night.
Another cage that was similar to St. Anne's attic. Yet somehow...far worse.
"I call upon you, Davina Claire..."
They couldn't make her do spells, though. Davina refused. She shunned every teacher and skipped every class the compound forced her to go to. It was the last form of rebellion left available in this terrible situation. As Cami had pointed out to her during their pep-talk, nobody could control what Davina did, how she chose to react, or what she believed in. Much to the French Quarter Coven's frustration and her delight. Besides, it was a sin against witch code to strip an Initiate of free will. And since Davina was learning how to use magic still, that meant she fell right under the category of "Initiate".
"I call upon you, Davina Claire."
Her favorite place to play hooky was in the green house. There, amongst the plants, Davina found a quiet refuge. She spent her time reading books and doodling inside a journal Cami had given her. Writing poems that expressed the thoughts she had to conceal from the Coven lest more trouble find her. It was here, one day, that Davina began feeling something strange. An odd sort of deja vu. This weird energy would fill the conservatory, pushing against the air, as if it were a particularly massive giant entering through a teeny tiny door. It would sometimes rattle the window panes and folding tables. Break a glass jar. Destroy a beaker that was precariously shelved.
Then, unexpectedly, the deja vu began to speak. And Davina found herself more afraid than she'd ever been of the Ancestors for it's voice was like raging thunder:
"I call upon you, Davina Claire! Scorned Prophet. You who will carry a heavy burden I do not envy. Be not afraid, oh fire maiden!! Though the hour of His darkness is almost at hand, there is hope-"
"Shut up! I don't trust you," she'd often murmur under her breath, in a poisonous hiss, trembling, and trying not to draw attention lest any unseen eyes were on her, "Go away! I-I won't listen to it. I'm done with whatever trick this is. Y-you're too late and I'm so over being someone's tool!"
Despite her protest, the invisible giant continued its entreaties to Davina. Oftentimes, it'd become so intrusive that she started avoiding her trips to the greenhouse altogether. Unfortunately, doing this didn't stop it. The alien energy just followed her out onto other parts of the compound where it could pursue her further. Nobody sensed this presence. Life in the compound proceeded at a normal tempo unbroken by her new attachment or it's dire messages:
"-Seek the girl who is coming! She who is bound by shackles on her wrists! New Orleans hangs in the balance, oh maiden. Be not afraid! The final dawn will set the city free-"
Davina Claire was going crazy. She was sure of it. Maybe this unnerving poltergeist had been sent by the Ancestors to torture her again for another one of her failures? There were so many failures, though. Countless many reasons for her kin to curse her. Davina curled up into escapism. She clutched onto books and art and the many journals she kept that offered her temporary relief. And she cried when she thought nobody was around until there were no more tears for her to shed.
On the night before the full moon, Davina prayed to whatever God might have mercy on her for it to stop...
Her prayer was answered with a strange dream.

Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Episode 12 Review
- On this episode of Gundam, we have pain and suffering!
- Already getting real fucking tired of Sophie. I mean I love psycho lesbians, but she’s seriously fucked up. Also it seems the Dawn of Fold girls are either genetically modified like El4n, or less stress is out in their body due to the absence of GUND Bits. However, the fact that they’re affected by Permet once again makes me question what the fuck is up with Aerial. Also Dawn of Fold has truly gone from resistance group to actual terrorists. Their job was to kill Delling, but they destroyed the base and murdered the people working there
- Prospera is the stinkiest fucking bitch in this series. She doesn’t even refer to Suletta as her daughter, just as “that girl.” And the brainwashing she’s doing to Suletta, telling her it’s perfectly fine to murder and not feel guilty is fucked up. The fact that her voice never changed tone in her entire convo with Suletta shows how fake she is. If she really cared about her daughter, she would comfort her and tell her that murder is wrong but sometimes a person has no choice, but they should always choose to prioritize lives and only kill when absolutely needed.
- The Earth Houses almost got caught up in the cross fire, but luckily Nika came to the rescue. Though now Martin saw her and knows she’s up to shady shit. It’s sweet that he knew she was missing and went back to her but he ended up seeing something he shouldn’t have. There are three ways this can play out:
1) Martin immediately tells the other guys and Nika gets excommunicated
2) Nika explains herself and Martine keeps it a secret
3) Nika’s terrorist upbringing kicks in and she kills him
- Shaddiq’s plans got foiled once again, but he doesn’t seem too shaken up. He wanted Delling’s head but he caused a big shakeup when in the Benerit Group still. But he’ll have to watch his back carefully. Because when one man learns he was behind this… he’s dead. Speaking of that man-
- Guel…just my boy Guel…
- I don’t think words can fully articulate how broken I am from that moment. But that’s not even a fragment of what Guel is feeling
- If this were any other anime, Guel would have came in just in time to help out, but instead he ended up murdering his dad. He tried to play the hero but he ruined his entire life. His thoughts of wanting to see Suletta again and not wanting to die really resound because he’s still just a child. He has so many things ahead of him, but now he’ll be stuck in a prison of self-torment due to his accidental patricide.
- Where will he go from this? Well they’re are a lot of ways, and none of them good. He could finally join the squad and either bond with Suletta (over both having killed a guy) or Miorine (over watching someone get killed brutally). Or he could go back to Jeturk and meet up with Lauda who’ll probably say he didn’t anything wrong, but that’s not at all what Guel wants to hear. Or he’ll go one a one man army to kill Shaddiq, either sneakily or just straight up fighting him and the harem. All I know is that my son is horribly traumatized and the show will probably go in for yet another punch in April
- Miorine and Delling’s moment really fucking hurt. Her dad wasn’t good to her, but he still wanted to protect her as decided by himself and her mother. Miorine, with all these conflicting feelings, wants her dad to lives cause even though she hates him, she still hopes that one day they could be a family. She’s doing her best to take care of protect her dad, even shielding him like he did to her when facing the end of a gun. And just when it looks like she’s saved by Suletta, everything crashes back down. The person she trusted more than anyone else and hoped to live the rest of life with committed a terrible atrocity in front of her and didn’t even care. I doubt she’ll be able to look at Suletta any longer, and any attempt to laugh it off will just hurt Miorine.
- Those tomato’s growing in the greenhouse… Miorine took such good care of them. She hoped to make them blossom and become their best selves. But Suletta squashed it. Now there’s nothing remaining but the icky guts of a once pure love.
- And now Suletta. frankly:
WHAT THE FUCK
- The way Suletta went from terrified of people being killed to happily squashing a man, making a joke about slipping in his innards, and then attempting to touch Miorine with those filthy hands is way too jarring. While some might say we’re carrying on from the Eri’s actions in the prologue, there’s a clear difference between the two. Eri had no idea what was happening. She just thought they were playing a little game on her birthday. She didn’t understand the concept of death. But Suletta fully knows well how precious life is and she squashed it under hand, making no mention of it. The problem is t that she killed a man, it’s that she disregarded him completely after he was dead. She continued on with her happy life, unburdened by the man who’s life was cut short. She had a choice. She could have put her hand in between them or pick him up and yeeted him, but she didn’t. She didn’t assess the situation and choose the option with no fatalities, she just jumped straight in with no regard for life and murdered a man.
- “If you run away you gain one, but if you move forward you gain two” This has been a message that permeates throughout the entire anime. At first, it’s very inspirational, but here we see the true colors of such a saying. Sometimes, it’s best to run away. Sometimes, it’s best to not use force. Because if you move forward, you have the capability of losing more than you gain. Guel attempted to move forward and killed his dad, Suletta attempted to move forward and lost her innocence as well as became a demon in Miorine’s eyes. Only Prospera, a revengeful woman still mad over having to leave in order to save Eri and her life would create such a saying. It’s a saying rooted in nothing but regret and burning hatred. Suletta’s blind faith in her mother has distorted the way she sees the world. Either she’ll be deprogrammed, or will be used as a weapon by her “loving” mother. However, only Suletta can do this. No one can save her but herself.
- With the second cour coming in April, we have a long ways to wait. Our three main characters, Suletta, Miorine, and Guel have all seen or committed an atrocity, one they will never fully heal from. Whether or not they can move forward in the good way, the bad way, or just run away is to be seen.

I dunno if it's just the mental state talking or if maybe there's some truth behind what i've been thinking about since I got off work this morning....
But it truly feels like my time on this site might be more limited than I'd like it to be. Sure, there are some people that still seem like at least somewhat interested to entertain the thought or action of writing with me, but... the majority seeningly don't. Maybe it's my rules? Am I not lenient enough? Am I too weird 'cause of a simple lousy (kind of) fetish I have for taller women? I honestly don't get it.
I've been on this site consecutively for.... I have no idea how many years now. And sure, I've taken my breaks, some rather abruptly and unannounced, but they count... This feels different.
I usually have cycles where I want to do nothing but watch YouTube videos or tons of movies or start series' i've never gotten a chance to get to, or do nothing but play video games. But in the end I would always come back to writing.
Recently, I haven't wanted to do the latter. It just seems so... grueling, like a 9-5 job you don't wanna do but need to because it appeases some sort of agenda or just 'cause you have to pay bills on time and eat.
And trust me, I'm one of those people that doesn't see this site as a job, nor do I feel like writing is a chore. USUALLY.
But the lack of people's interest in things (idk if it's my muses-- me as a person) or the lack of reciprocation to things that take all but a few seconds to lift someone's spirits... has just really turned me off. (Not to mention broken notifications, the new dashboard - y'know all of Staff's TERRIBLE choices)
People also have jobs, I get it. Or school... kids, a life. This is truly something you do in your down time because you enjoy it and may have found the time to actually sit down and relax for once without the overbearing weight of other responsibilities holding you down - I just.. I honestly don't know anymore.
Now normally I wouldn't try and sound so much like a beggar or some kind of attention-seeking child, but is it so hard to send positivity in return sometimes? - Like I get that I may not be active 90% of the time lately, but at least I make the time and put in the effort to show that I care and still enjoy seeing actual people on my dash. - I always send it in and hardly get it back. And sure, maybe within the answer to my initial interaction there's something said. But that's more of a response than an actual attempted effort. At least, to me it is.
I also understand that I haven't been the best at replying to sent in memes, or asks in general, but that's because my muse has been at an all-time-low for ALL of my muses, save for like... ONE of my OCs (Sophie; though even now, I'll admit, she's kinda gone too.), and I get sick of staring at them, irritated that I can't muster up a SINGLE word to reply to any of them with... so eventually I delete them and hope to TRY from an empty slate.
I guess I just miss having that person or small group of people that I could count on all the time for things, regardless of our moods, what time of day it was, what we were doing -- etc. I've only ever been affiliated once, and... it probably wasn't the best choice. But the intentions at the time were nothing but good, and it wasn't heavily enforced, save for MAYBE a single ship, or two. Not having that security anymore just shakes things up too much and I guess it's one change that I could never get used to.
Regardless, the thoughts of this morning have me leaning toward either some kind of indefinite hiatus, or a massive reboot to start anew and maybe find a new place to settle. Those of you that want me around can keep me on discord and continue to chat with me there. But if not, and IF I do decide to go that route, I bid thee farewell and I hope for nothing but good luck in your future endeavors.

GET TO KNOW THE MUN
Tumblr media
what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? ━━ Well, I suppose my love for the character came first and foremost, but I had some ideas about him that I wanted to explore. I started out writing some fanfiction for him on AO3, but found that I really wanted to interact with other writers in the fandom, and roleplay is the most straightforward way to do that! I'm really enjoying it so far!
is there anything you don’t like to write? ━━ There's a few things I prefer not to roleplay, the first and foremost is Jilco. Sorry you will just never catch me doing anything concerning that. Another thing is Silco getting his way 100% of the time. I like there to be struggle in most aspects of his life and work. He doesn't make it easy on himself with his choices, and it gives me more to do in roleplay.
is there anything you really enjoy writing? ━━ I love writing Silco getting himself injured or in peril. He's delightfully stubborn, which usually ends up with him getting himself into some terrible situations, in canon and otherwise. I also really enjoy writing him being protective over those he cares about, because he expresses those emotions in such a unique way from other people.
how do you come up with headcanons? ━━ Usually I just get inspiration from a scenario I'm writing or a perspective I'm exploring. Silco makes his opinions pretty openly known in the show, which gives me a great base to start from. Another blessing of the great writing team on Arcane. So yeah, most of the time I just search for inspiration. Sometimes I turn to ask memes and quizzes, but other times I just think of it on my own.
do you write in silence or do you play music?  ━━ I have to have music on. I have entire playlists dedicated to characters I play, and Silco is no exception. His playlist mainly comprises of dark techno, industrial, and some alternative pop. It's mainly music that either matches his character or the vibe of The Last Drop under his reign. It just helps me get into his mindset with a touch more immersion.
do you plan your replies or wing them? ━━ I try to plan where I can, but also leave things loose enough that it doesn't feel like it's railroaded. I prefer to have heavy communication with my rp partner, and a general direction of where the thread is going. Goals, themes, tropes, etc etc. That being said, I also don't mind having a bit of improve for shorter form roleplay, where there's a paragraph or less to write at a time.
do you enjoy shipping?  ━━ With Silco? It depends. He's not exactly a very open person with his love since Vander, but it's not impossible. When he does form a bond with someone, it's usually deep and passionate, regardless of its type (platonic, romantic, familial, etc). I've had some interests, but really I wait for my rp partner to bring it up, because the last thing I'd want to do is overstep! Let's just say I'd be happy to explore it with the right people.
what’s your alias/name?  ━━ Zigg / Ziggy / Z
age? ━━ 30
birthday? ━━ June 4th
favorite color? ━━ neon green
favorite song? ━━ Too specific!! Here's a few:
Kill or Be Killed -- The Bloody Beetroots, Leafar Seyer Supermassive Black Hole -- Muse Cyka -- Russian Village Boys, Cosmo & Skoro CVNT -- Sophie Hunter Farben -- Orange Sector
last movie you watched? ━━ Batman: Ninja
last show you watched? ━━ Arcane
last song you listened to? ━━ Nature Calls - Iguana Death Cult
favorite food? ━━ tinola, corn chowder, pork schnitzel, japanese curry
favorite season? ━━ spring / fall
do you have a Tumblr best friend? ━━ I have several people on here who I consider close friends and great RP partners! @system-contact has been around my whole life as my closest friend, and I cherish them as someone I can always count on to be a well-versed and engaging rp partner. @bleedinghearth is a friend I've had for a while now, and I love their characters and originality, as well as their wicked humor. @jynxd has been wonderful to write with and get to know over the time I've spent in the Arcane RPC, and I love our little chats in DMs! @shimmerbeasts is a fantastic writing partner with a fun world to play in, and has been so kind and welcoming to me in the RPC, which I really appreciate. @ferinehuntress is a fun person with a wide range of characters, many of which I've had fun reading and writing with, and Panda's happy energy is just contagious.

Okay I rewrote the post. Thoughts on the last tenth (or so) of Worth the Candle:
[I don't really expect this to be interesting to anyone except me, but i do want to save these for future me, lol]
 I found the ttrpg Fel See Incident much more satisfying than the Aerb version. No, not satisfying, it was horrible. But it was exactly what the story had been building it up to be, for 1 million plus words, and that's quite an accomplishment. Whereas the Fel Seed of Aerb.... I think the problem is scope creep? When the stakes get Too High and the antagonists (or protagonists, for that matter) get Too Powerful my brain just gives up and I disengage. Like "sure, whatever, just tell me who wins". Whereas the ttrpg version, and the real world-level drama around it, felt horribly plausible.
I did like "we'll win the second time because, if Joon had gotten a second chance at the game, he would have let the players win." That was a nice bit of narrative reinforcement/article of faith.
 I love the Long Stairs. It's almost enough to make me think I should give SCP a more serious look, but I'm still worried the horror will be Too Scary for me. (And don't get me wrong I would hate to play a ttrpg campaign in it... actually, maybe it wouldn't be worse than usual? I could just follow the RDP instructions instead of my usual choice paralysis. well, depends on how often they come up. I probably wouldn't like having to make new characters constantly b/c they keep dying.) But like when Juniper wished they could've stayed in the labyrinth and explored the other cultures living there, I was right there with him.
The final reveal of Uther/Arthur..... hmmm, complicated feelings. On the one hand, ugh! why couldn't he just apologize, and admit to being terrible!! Well, he kinda did later... to Juniper, after they'd spent a long time rebuilding camaraderie and basically giving each other a pass for the horrible shit each considered the other to have done. And that was depressingly realistic. Well, idk that anything in my life compares (fortunately) but the most serious, scary arguments in my life have mostly gone like that.
Juniper and Arthur's ultimate goodbye felt appropriate, even cathartic. Raven and Bethel didn't get anything comparable though. Just Uther brushing them off (or in Ravens case saying "I understand this is hard for you but you've got to suck it up", basically). Which, yeah the world ain't fair. It wasn't justice, though. They didn't get their due like Juniper did.
The final conversation withe the dungeon master was also surprisingly satisfying! I liked it a lot more than when Sophie's World did the same thing. (And I've probably read more books that have the character confront the fact that they're characters in a novel, but that's what came to mind lol).
Maybe b/c it was really funny how the DM told Juniper "you're all characters in a novel I'm writing" and Juniper immediately rejected that explanation as bullshit.
Similarly, the Narrator, as the actual Juniper who was writing WTC
Heaven!Fenn though, felt overly self-indulgent to me. Which is maybe ridiculous, b/c the whole story is an exercise in self-indulgence/self-examination, but i dunno she just didn't work for me
Well, it's pretty hilarious that she was The One Person In Aerb Ever To Go To Heaven, and was always destined to be that one person. Hilarious in a pretty arbitrary way.
Someone in the comments to Ch. 245 or 246 said that "Worth the Candle but Reimer died instead of Arthur" is a great fanfic premise and... i dunno, it would be a massive amount of work, but it's tantalizing to think about. Seems like Aerb would have to be very different with--well, idk, would it be a whole collection of Reimer's characters, since he never seemed as devoted to one of them?-- instead of Uthur Penndraig, but with the themes of putting people on a pedestal, using their tragedies as an excuse to wallow in your own grief and depression and rage, and also the DM presumably having the same goals, I have to wonder how much it would even matter?!
Wow, the void beast was a metaphor for global warming?! kinda kicking myself for not picking up on that. Unless I just forgot about it; this story is really long.

Though one may believe that Sophie’s story is one of man vs environment, or may argue that it is man vs self, but it is actually both, being man vs self vs environment. Autonomy, freewill, and purpose pay integral in understanding why this is the conflict.
Contrary to the belief that humans are creatures of instincts and habits, humans can be argued to be creatures of purpose; it isn’t to the extent that we believe that “purpose” that defines greater pursuit. However, purpose is something that we do because we know something we gain from it (or there is a reason for it).
Free will and autonomy are confused for another and there are distinct differences. The former refers to one’s ability to act on your own (regardless of acting on one’s purpose) while the latter is acting in pursuit of your own goals (also known as a self-chosen purpose).
Individuals in power and environment play a critical in Sophie’s development; Sophie has “purpose” and acts accordingly with her free will, but how she views herself and operates has not been of her own decision. Sophie’s situation greatly lacks autonomy since she has been terribly young.
Structurally, Sophie is someone who is running on the initial impression that her choices and goals are of her own decision. Extending this thought, she recognizes that because of the laws of Ingary work with eldest daughters, there already great limitations to what she may do or cannot do (the least likely to find her fortune, misfortunate, etc.). That put additional constrictions to the actual individual that Sophie should be.
Sophie’s autonomy is introduced early in the book she made as a young child: prioritizing her sisters and raising them, focusing on them on their futures. However, that is the end of her exercised self-power. Additionally, this choice was made through the discovery of her lack of future and fortune. Other influences and choices made by people of power in her life that she make her act and she takes as her “purpose.”
It is until her late father’s passing and Witch of the Waste’s curse that has her deconstructing her role as the “eldest daughter” and how much of it is actually Sophie and the idea of “Sophie Hatter.”
Man vs self vs environment becomes the question of ‘who am I really?’ underneath everything imposed on Sophie.
If she removes these purposes and goals given to her, things she believed true to herself, there are larger holes as to what she actually wants and who she really is. Given that for how long it has been going - her entire lifetime - there are very eerie and uncomfortable gaps that may really not have answers.
Then comes the question of ‘is it better to regain autonomy without having grasp of who I really am?’ Sophie has the recurring habit of falling back to routine because of knowing no one else will do it - it is free will making her choose it, but there’s the lack of self-chosen purpose.
What if it is just better to remain a role you’re given if it’s the most stability you ever received?

What a conundrum!

The 1 Time Eliot Faced Moreau + 5 Times Eliot Kept Away from Him
AKA Moreau scares Eliot, but he’ll face him again for the safety of the team. However, the team is very observant and when they notice, they do everything in their power to ensure that Eliot won’t have to go through that again.
On AO3.
Ships: none
Warnings: none
~~~~~~~~~~
+5. Eliot
Everyone around him is celebrating. As they should. Damien is locked up, they have a new president and everyone is still alive.
Still, Eliot can’t shake the feeling that it is all temporary. With Damien it’s never over, you’re never truly done. It’s only a matter of time, before you find yourself in front of the man again wherein he gives you two choices and you can only really pick one of them and then you’re right back where you started. Right back under his thumb.
All these people around him don’t know that. They have only known life under Damien’s thumb, they haven’t managed to escape, only to be pulled right back, but Eliot has. He has escaped Damien three times and so far none of them have stuck.
The first time he tried escaped Damien he hadn’t made it off the property before he got shot in the leg, an old wound that still hurts when it’s damp. The second time he made it out, only to be tracked down and bought his freedom with that job in Belgrade. Then he escaped again and nearly had to crawl back again, until that Dubenich payout saved him, but even working with Nate and the rest of the team led him right back to Damien.
This time won’t be different. It never is.
If he’s smart, he’ll go down to the Tombs right now and put an end to it. The General is back on site and his men are guarding the door, they know Eliot as an ally. It would be easy to go down there and put a bullet in Damien’s face. The only way to make sure he’ll stay out of his life.
But Eliot still isn’t over those men he killed in the warehouse just a week ago. Hell, he isn’t over all the people he killed before them either. But these men… he used to work with them, knows what terrible people they, yet his stomach still turns.
Killing Damien will haunt him as much as it will bring him peace. He doesn’t know whether more blood on his hands will be worth it. Or if Damien will manipulate him again once he sees him, it could be a risk to go down there. Damien has always known what buttons to push.
So, he just keeps standing at the bar, contemplating his decision as he watches the happy people of San Lorenzo. The people they’d helped.
In the crowd he spots the happy General dancing with his daughter, Nate trying to keep Sophie away from burning her character, and Hardison and Parker at the snacks arguing as they shove hors d’oeuvres in their mouths.
Eliot suspects both pairs will disappear soon, sneak off somewhere. Surprisingly that thought doesn’t fill him with dread like it would have yesterday. He actually feels okay leaving them out of sight, even with Damien in the same country, his men still everywhere.
He feels okay with it.
He feels safe.
The thought is too weird to put into words, so he pinches himself and lets his eyes dart between Nate and Sophie, and Hardison and Parker.
Nate is gesturing with his glass with one hand, the other on Sophie’s back as he leads her away, while Sophie is pouting, but letting herself be moved. Hardison is making a face at whatever he has just eaten, obviously not agreeing with the taste, while Parker laughs at him, her mouth smeared with chocolate, her eyes twinkling.
All of them are happy and safe. Eliot has long known that he would do anything to keep them all happy like that, including facing Damien Moreau again. If he wants to keep them safe, he’ll have to go through that one more time. Just ruin his soul and mind one last time and it’ll be done.
Then Parker spots him and sends him a toothy grin. Hardison also looks his way then points to one of the hors d’oeuvres and mouths: “These are nasty, man.”
Despite the dark thoughts plaguing him, Eliot laughs at that. These are his teammates, the people he wants to stay next to. And deep down, he knows that he doesn’t want to leave the party. He doesn’t want to go down there and have to face Damien, have to kill him.
It is a huge risk to let Damien live, but it was also a huge risk to come here. And the team pulled it off, they got to Damien, the first and only people to ever do that. They met him and weren’t ensnared, they got out. They put him away.
Eliot realizes the team being there makes him feel safe.
All throughout this con, he hasn’t had to face Damien. Everyone had always needed him somewhere else. It suddenly clicks that the four of them made sure he didn’t have to face Damien this con.
He’s a bit embarrassed that they caught on to how much Damien scares him, but he’s too grateful to be truly upset about it. Because Damien does scare him, he scares Eliot so much and the fact that he hasn’t had to see him chokes him up with relief.
In that moment, he knows he knows he can’t kill Damien. The others will know that it was him and he can’t bear to face them after he disregarded all they’ve done for him. Can’t face them when they know he’s killed again. Those men in the warehouse can be self defense, this would be stone cold murder.
So, he orders three drinks and goes over to see what hors d’oeuvre pissed off Hardison this time and see if he can teach him so more about food. Having Hardison accept his presence again after that pool is the closest to salvation he’ll ever get.
The next day, Eliot is shaking inside as they board the plane, but he keeps on a strong facade as he listens to the team’s usual banter. Eliot is ignoring them, because if he looses focus, he’ll storm off the plane and into the Tombs before they can take off.
Because despite it all Eliot is still scared. He’s fucking terrified.
Damien is the one person Eliot never wants to face again. And right now he might be sitting in a San Lorenzo prison cell, but Eliot can’t be sure that will last forever.
There might come a day where Damien will be back and Eliot will have to face him again. The thought alone is enough to make him nervous. But he gets on the plane anyway and leaves Damien behind him.
Eliot knows that if the time comes, he’ll face Damien again to keep the team safe, but today, he doesn’t have to face him, because the team made sure he never had to. They’ll probably never know how much their intervention meant to him, but with Damien behind bars, Eliot will have the rest of his life to prove it to them.
What do you think Kenric's reaction would be to finding out Sophie read the orge kings mind and broke the treaty? Also what do you think he would do if he found out that the chosen punishment was the ability restrictor especially because he was trying to protect Sophie? I love this au so much!! And thinking about Kenric finding out what the council did especially during last half of everblaze-most of neverseen since some/all of them were probably his friends because he worked with them for hundreds of years
AGH sorry I took so long to answer this, for some reason I thought I had? But then I hadn't? :( But I'm answering it now!
The others took turns explaining to Kenric what had happened while he was gone, and his emotions flew between outrage and horror and a guilty sense of some sort of relief that he hadn't been there to deal with it.
I would definitely say that the end-of-Everblaze-Neverseen era was the worst for the Council, and he would be absolutely disgusted that they immediately followed up with the ability restrictor after he sacrificed his life (or would have, at least) to save Sophie.
When he heard about the ability restrictor, at first he'd think it was so awful it had to be a nasty joke, but when he saw the serious expression of remembrance on Sophie's face, he realized that it was real. I have no doubt that if Kenric was still on the Council, the ability restrictor never would have happened because A) it was probably Alina who suggested it, given her comments to Dex earlier, and B) he would have never stood for it (not that the others did, but 4 against 8 stands a lot more of a chance than 3 against 9).
(ignore the fact that Sophie read King Dimitar's mind at Kenric's funeral so if he hadn't died that never would have happened in the first place)
He apologizes to Sophie again and again even though it wasn't his fault. As for how he'd react to knowing she'd broken the treaty, he would probably chuckle a bit but then say something along the lines of "If I were brave enough to read the ogre king's mind, I would have done the same thing". He'd be a bit upset that she'd done it, but when he saw how guilty she still was, he wouldn't dwell on it. He'd mostly be focused on the Council's terrible punishment, and once again, be hit by a wave of guilt. If he had been there, he could have saved both Sophie and Oralie so much pain.
But then Sophie would remind him that he likely saved her life, and Kenric would force himself to remember that he'd made the only choice he could have possibly made. He'd look at her, this courageous girl who's grown up so much since he'd seen her, and know that she was kind of like himself: Doing the best she could under impossibly difficult circumstances.
And in the end, they'd grow to trust each other a little bit more. Through their hardships, they'd find a true ally and friend.
Was that [WINONA RYDER]? Oh no no, that was just [SOPHIE DEVEREAUX], a [ORIGINAL CHARACTER] from [HARRY POTTER]. They are [FORTY-EIGHT] years old, use [SHE/HER], and [ARE] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long. {ooc: moon, 24, cst, they/she}
how long has your character been here
sophie arrived in dc a few days ago.
what is your character’s job?
sophie was a professor at hogwarts and will try to find a similar job here eventually
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom
harry potter, from the marauder’s era technically
has any magic affected your character
no
and any other information you might find useful for us and the other members to know!!
sophie grew up with her older sister maddie mckinnon. the two were like best friends as kids up until they were attending hogwarts together. sophie looked up to her sister and wanted to be a great witch like her. which contributed to her love of school and everything about hogwarts. when maddie met ewan she was nothing but happy for her sister despite their parents having wanted to wed her to another wizard. their parents were not happy about the turn of events, but sophie fully supported her sister. even attending their wedding and was there when her first two children were born. during that time, sophie found someone she began to see herself, excited about the idea of having a life like her sister’s. finding your true love and nothing else in the world mattering. but as luck would have it, as their parents realized they wouldn’t be able to tear maddie and ewan apart, they set their sights on sophie instead. their parents did all that they could to convince sophie to marry the person that was supposed to be betrothed to maddie, and when sophie refused the resorted to sabotaging her relationship. it was little things they would do to create problems until the relationship was broken up and sophie felt like she had no other choice but to marry who they wanted. it was this that ultimately lead to her falling out with maddie. blaming her for her life being stolen from her, as her husband was supposed to be maddie’s. she broke ties with her sister, never speaking to the family again and living through a loveless marriage. sophie has 3 kids with her husband and worked as the potions professor. sophie hadn’t spoken to her sister for decades, only finding out about what happened to them through the news. it devastated her to lean that her sister and her whole family had perished and they’d left on such terrible terms. after learning this she quit working at hogwarts. sophie comes from about 1 year after the attack on her family. i’m still figuring this out so don’t take this as hard fact yet.
