Not Alone (Fred Weasley x reader)
summary: with Fred and George leaving Hogwarts, you feel more alone than ever. warnings: angst w/ fluff at the end word count: 1k+ writing date: april 9, 2020
Were you proud of your boyfriend for leaving the school and showing Umbridge up? Yes. Did you support him? Of course. Did you miss him like hell? Absolutey.
You unfortunately could not have left Hogwarts with them. There was just too many opportunities that would've gone to waste if you had left. You'd love if you could've gone with them, but it was just not worth it in the long run.
Thus, you were left at Hogwarts, stranded with Umbridge. You honestly wouldn't have minded as much as you did had Umbridge not been invading everyone's ability to have a good year, but she was. You felt lonely strolling the halls without your boyfriend to constantly crack jokes at the expense of Umbridge, making you snicker and cover your mouth to try and muffle it.
He lightened the whole atmosphere, not just for you, but for everyone else too, you could tell. He and George kept Hogwarts happy. But with him gone, everything seemed gloomier; more despair seemed to seep through the walls.
You were strong, but every once in awhile, you just felt like crumbling. snow, was one of those times. You had been reminiscing on all of the good times at Hogwarts, hanging out with the twins and the other by the Black Lake, laughing as they fought with each other. Those were the good old days. You'd missed them. You'd missed him.
Tears pricked at your eyes, unable to be contained anymore. The reality of never being able to do any of the things you'd reminisced about again had hit you like a strong stupefy. Sunlight had strung down upon you through the tinted window, almost like it was mocking your sorry state.
You felt so alone. He hadn't even written you one single letter. You of course knew of all the enchantments put around Hogwarts in order to keep uninvited guests out and that he was busy, but you still wished you could've heard at least something. Sure, you had your other friends to keep you company, but they just weren't the same as Fred. You wanted to just Accio a time Turner so that you could go back and savour those moments more than you did, but that wasn't possible.
A light tapping caught your attention. You lifted your head in it's direction to investigate. You saw an owl carrying a piece of parchment within it's talons. Raising your eyebrow, you got up and opened the window, retrieving the parchment. You gave a modified acknowledgement and appreciation towards the owl before it flew off. The owl wasn't familiar to you. Who was this from? Why didn't it come during normal delivery hours?
Sitting back down onto your bed, you unfurled the letter. Taking one brief look at it, you'd instantly recognized the almost illegible handwriting that you had grown to love; it was from Fred.
How he had managed to sneak an owl into Hogwarts was beyond you, but it wasn't surprising. Fred and George had known Hogwarts better than anyone, it was how they managed to pull off so many of their pranks.
You began to read the letter, sad tears quickly being replaced with happy ones and a large grin appearing on your face.
hello darling, ive missed you. georgie is being a right git and i think im gonna go bloody mad. he's arguing whether we should put a display there or there. i know that if you were here I know youd agree that the shelf clearly does not belong there, because you, my dear, are the smartest (and hottest) person ive ever met and know that you have enough sense to not put a shelf in a completely nonsensical area.
i cant wait until we get to meet again. sorry it took me so long to get a letter to you, georgie wouldnt stop pestering me. i love you so much and cant wait to see your face again. when i see you again get ready for the best kiss of your lifetime, because ive missed you. well, maybe it won't be the absolute best kiss of your lifetime. it'll be close, though. i miss kissing you. i miss being in your arms, they're so cuddly, you know that right? i don't care if it's weird, it's the truth, darling. i wish i could've brought you with me but i get it.
toadface better not be being mean to you. if she is, just remember the plan.
xoxo fred
p.s tell ronniekins to hurry up and snog hermione already. watching him pine was insufferable
You were sure you had a stupid grin on your face, but it didn't matter. You finally got to hear from the person you missed the most, and you were happy. You could read about him complaining about his brother for days and not get bored. The letter might not seem like a lot, but to you, it was everything. ago you, it was a drink of water in the middle of a draught. It was such a small gesture, yet it meant the world to you.
You loved the way he wrote, it suited him perfectly. Gosh, you had even fallen in love with the way he wrote. You were in deep. But it didn't matter, because he was in deep with you two. You were so happy with him, and just knew that the waiting would be worth it in the end.
Feeling much more spirited, you jumped up and started a journey down to the potions room, you had a plan. You and Fred said that you wouldn't do it unless Toadface did something particularly horrible, but you were in a better mood for pranking. You were gonna get revenge for Toadface forcing Fred and George to run from Hogwarts. That fit under the criteria of "particularly horrible," to you. Besides, you were sure that she would absolutely giant, pink ears. All the better to keep an ear out for any actions that may violate any 10000 of educational decrees she'd made.
Despite the fact that Fred wasn't physically there with you, you didn't feel alone. You knew that he would be always with you.
