Hot Weather
The far western city of Nepal saw record-breaking heat on June 9, 2023, with temperatures of about 46 degrees. In the non-tropical nation of Nepal, both winter and summer are experienced. Despite being located in a cold region shielded by the stunningly extended himalayas, Nepal's climate is currently suffering from a severe heat wave. In contrast, today's heat is so oppressive that even classes cannot be held in Nepal, where schools have never had to close because of the weather. Additionally, heat stroke has been linked to fatalities in some cases. Making history in this way.
The issue with the heat, though, is that it keeps rising. Nepal has three regions: Terai, Pahad, and Himal.
The lowest region of Nepal, known as Terai, is where the bulk of people—50 percent—live. Although Terai is meant to be hot, it has recently been hotter than tropical nations. Heat is primarily caused by deforestation.
Yes, it may sound strange or peculiar. It is true that people are harming plants to such an extent due to a lack of knowledge that even Google Maps shows that Terai has changed from a green area to a yellow area. The more CO2 (carbon dioxide) there are in an area, the more humidity there is, which leads to oppressive levels of heat. Government, like with other problems, is the issue here. The government donates and sells lands that are beneficial in exchange for money. According to Nepali culture, owning a home is something only rich people do, while renting an apartment is seen as a poor living situation. This viewpoint could also be a key factor. If current trends continue, the entire nation will become urbanized, making it potentially impractical to build even a road. In the capital city of Nepal, all that can be seen are houses, we can observe the effects of urbanization. Building houses has become such a fad in Kathmandu that people are doing it illegally by offering money or playing bluffs. The mayor has been acting, thank God.
Even God cannot save us if urbanization increased as rapidly as predicted. Millions or billions of plants that are vital to the ecology are wiped out by urbanization. The government continues to approve the construction of a brand-new airport, which would destroy millions of trees, wildlife, and other things. Why are we in need of more airports when we already have three? What if we put all of our attention on developing those airports? How can you expect a country to evolve or thrive if the government actively promotes such behavior?
I believe the government ought to provide a solution, such as by developing its own infrastructure that people might rent out. introducing initiatives such as "Planting Trees in Barren Land". Talk about the things that do in the legislature rather than buffaloes. Order every local authority to stop selling land and concentrate on creating a garden full of trees that could improve the nation and people's lives by extending life expectancy. There are several issues in Nepal that we can resolve by banding together in the same way that the Great Man Prithivi Narayan Shah united this lovely nation.

“I stand with you” (Ramattra x Reader)
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: So I found another muse and I’m obsessed. Here is a nice little angsty fic (with a happy end). As usual, please excuse any grammar mistake, I’m not a native speaker.
Word count: 1743
Edit: here’s a new fic that can be read separately https://www.tumblr.com/lady-of-endless/710235615367692288/flashbacks-and-height-differences-ramattra-x?source=share
What should be done when someone despises you for who you are?
Your answer was to leave that individual alone and try not to bother him as much as possible, minding your business. It was supposed to be simple, not the complicated task it turned out to be.
Even if you went on with your daily duties at the peaceful monastery in Nepal, he kept on testing you. Slowing you down with his ravenous vortex, blocking your way with his void barrier, whatever it took to reveal your true colors and prove to his brother the hideous truth about human nature. It become a routine whenever he visited.
It all started when Zenyatta announced his brother's first visit to Nepal. Despite your excitement to meet him, your mentor had to briefly explain Ramattra's principles. Before even trying to find a solution, he already arrived.
You could recall how shivers ran down your spine when your chin was lifted by his staff to look up at him.
"Your name, human."
His voice was a shadow compared to the light of Zenyatta's tone. Ramattra spoke harshly, demanding. He could have ended you then and there but instead he gifted you mercy.
So, since then, there were only two kinds of days in Nepal. Calm days and days in which Ramattra visited and interfered with whatever you tried to do. However, with each of the latter, you started to learn more about the vengeful omnic and his devastating story. Unconsciously, Ramattra also discovered more about you. As sickening as it was initially to watch you get along with every omnic from the monastery, he started to get more curious. As trust does not blossom overnight, his visits started to get more frequent. Gradually, his daily torments stopped but even so, you still felt his gaze on you.
One day, Zenyatta decided to visit another monastery in Nepal with Genji. He left you and his dear brother responsible for the sacred place, much to Ramattra's displeasure who was not supposed to be there.
The night was so quiet, a serene snowing night, that could not anticipate such an unfortunate event.
Pacing aimlessly in your room with a late-night cup of tea, you accidentally saw from the window the terrible image of an omnic trapped under a fallen statue that decorated the court of the monastery. Gasping, you dropped the cup instantly, leaving your room in a desperate hurry but knowing exactly who could help.
His name echoed through the halls as you ran barefoot and called for him.
Arriving at his door, you started to bash your fists against the wood repeatedly, not caring about his recharging state at that late hour.
He heard your voice from the first call and sighed deeply, looking at the door but not moving yet.
"Ramattra, please! It's an emergency! An omnic!" You explained in a breathless voice. "Is injured, please, help."
Finally, the door was opened swiftly, his tall figure towering over you.
"Take me there."
You nodded and started running again, with him by your side this time.
"If you have anything to do with this, human, I will not hesitate to-"
"A statue fell over because of the weather." You stated hastily.
It was only then he realized it was indeed horrible weather outside, and even worse for something so weak as a human. Yet, there you were, running in a flimsy impractical outfit. He could not throw a remark because you both arrived at the scene.
A broken and incredibly heavy statue kept the poor monk injured and trapped in place. His pleas to help him panicked you even more. Ramattra wasted no time changing to his nemesis form to lift the stone from the omnic.
After that, when he reversed his transformation to his omnic form, you felt that it was your turn to act. Almost bumping into Ramattra who also wanted to look at the injuries, you both analyzed the damage fast.
It was critical. Ramattra got solemnly quiet and you were quick to notice it.
"No, don't even think about it, there must be something we can do."
He slowly shook his head, he has seen too many injured omics not to predict the outcome.
"I think...I can try to heal him." You continued in a small unsure voice.
Ramattra froze in place remembering that his brother explained how you were studying ways to use your healing ability the first time he saw you at the monastery.
"You think? Are you this unsure of your abilities?" He asked more sharply than he intended.
"I have never done this before... Healing an omnic." You explained in a whisper so that the one in pain could not hear.
Ramattra was speechless once again. Before he could demand explanations, you already started.
"Just describe to me how those components look when they're in perfect shape."
After voicing your idea, you pleaded to the injured omnic to stay with you, cupping his face gently. That gesture of human warmth should have infuriated Ramattra but not this time. "Please hurry, let us do it, Ramattra." You said daring to grip his hand tightly.
He was baffled by everything and especially by the hope in your eyes when looking at him. Why were you this motivated to save an omnic? How dare you care for one of his people when you were just a human? Leaving his wonder behind, Ramattra cleared his throat and started to help you.
Now, with your hands on the cold metal of those broken components you were trying to focus while Ramattra explained how each circuit should be in a stern voice. As you took in his words and concentrated, the damage started to slowly reverse under your touch. He looked in wonder at the omnic and then closely at your face.
After what seemed to be so many moments of an intense healing process, the injured omnic could finally get up from the ground alone. Happiness flowed in his tone when he thanked both you and Ramattra for saving his life. You were smiling weakly in return, something still felt off.
"Thank you for your crucial explanations. You saved another one." You said to Ramattra while both of you looked at the omnic who was walking back to his room in safety.
Ramattra only shook his head and started walking away from you already. This event got him too confused. He had to encounter the joy of keeping another omnic safe with caution and also sort his thoughts alone.
"Maybe you should study more since you are even staying at a place full of us omnics, don't you think?" He commented preparing for one of your comebacks.
However, no answer was heard from you this time, no response, no calm voice.
If Ramattra could have frowned, he would do it right then. Instead, he stopped and dared to be curious about your condition, taking a look over his shoulder. He saw you crashed on the ground, in the thin layer of cold snow.
...He stopped in place.
This is probably a false alarm, he thought. But he convinced himself that you had no intention of testing him.
...He took a step closer.
Maybe you wanted to pay him back for all of his torments. But you never seemed that upset or bitter about it.
...He walked closer to your static figure.
"Get up, human." His voice was as sharp as the wind.
A thought of using his staff to touch you flashed across his circuits but he kneeled next to your body instead. You were still breathing but shivering. Unintentionally, he remembered his brother's explanations again. What you also tried to learn from Zenyatta was how to handle energy loss after healing someone. You needed to rest, but logically not outside in that freezing weather.
Ramattra called your name. For the first time, he did not call you "human", "human pet", or "nuisance", he called the name that tormented his thoughts for days.
Hearing it, made you weakly open your eyes just to close them back.
"Get up now, or your vitals will drop!" He repeated, slightly nervous.
No reaction.
You knew that healing an omnic was different from what you knew you could do and something probably draining, yet you did it with no hesitation.
What was the reason?
Defeated, Ramattra looked around for any other omnic in sight but there was none. He sighed and embraced your body clumsily.
For years, he only knew how to harm a human, not protect it. He had no idea how to hold a body like yours, how to keep it close, safe. Yet, he had to do it. No, he started to want to do it. He did not care how fast the color from the human faces can drain because of low temperatures before, now, it started to worry him.
With the help of his nemesis form, he could put his scarf around your shoulders without letting your body out of his unfamiliar embrace.
"You forgot what I am?" You whispered in a shiver, feeling what he was doing.
There was never a moment in which he would forget what you were. A human that got on his nerves with your affection and care for the ones of his kind (without being a deception, he discovered). A human, different from those oppressors who took away the ones close to him and he killed in return. How could he forget when your face haunted him in his tries to meditate or make plans lately?
"Shut it or I will leave you where I found you." He said instead of everything else. "Save your energy and hold onto me."
So, yes, he knew what you were and who you were. The one that saved an omnic, the one that likes to interact all the time with ones of his kind, the one that wants to learn more.
Your name did not sound like a bad omen anymore.
Was this what Mondatta preached about? Was this what Zenyatta tried to explain about you? A flashback of his lectures at Shambali made Ramattra feel a pressure in his chest, right where he thought he had a blade instead of a heart.
Suddenly, a cold gust of wind hit. Still advancing through it, Ramattra looked down at your peaceful expression and carefully placed a hand on the side of your face to shield you.
"You are safe with me."

Really love your ram! I love the 'fixed the broken' it touched my heart with many fluffiness to the point that I could faint 🥺. So please I would like to request for (fluff) ramattra and the reader, every time it rain they would coincidentally meet each other at the same shelter or different one each time or both, it could be funny that way too! Up to you :)
hhhhhhh I fucking love soft Ramattra just as much as the next person.
Apologies it took awhile to get to, but hey, a nice double upload today!

Ramattra x reader (gen)
Word count: 1173
It was the same shit just different day. Having to travel to work early, and then travel home late made you wonder whether or not the job was even worth it; and let’s not talk about when the rainy weather would hit, whether light or a storm, you would still push on in.
But, despite the travel, despite the weather, you enjoyed the job. Repairing omnics was something you had grown to do, even more so after the crisis. You wanted to do what you could to help, no matter how small it may be.
The walk was worth it though. The scenery in Nepal was everything you had ever wished for. The omnic village was accommodating, human travellers passing occasionally, however you were the more frequent visitor. The omnics there welcomed you each day, passing ‘thanks’ and ‘have a good day’ whenever you walked past. They were more like a family then your own family was.
Today, however, the rain was coming down hard the moment you had finished work. After closing the workshop, locking the shutters and hiding under the provided shelter, you sigh. Looking across the street, watching the puddles grow larger by the second, you zip up your coat only to realise there was no hood.
Can it get any worse…?
With a slightly more irritated yet defeated sigh, you walk out into the pouring rain and begin the journey home. The rain pelted your face, soaking you in moments as you walked. Down hill was going to be the trickier part. Having no grip on your shoes and rocky terrain, it wasn’t exactly the safest for walking. Keeping close to the wall, you hold on, hoping to not slip and end up at the bottom. While it would be quicker, the bruises and possible painful injuries weren’t going to help you repair omnics.
It was a slow and careful descent, one where you kept your eyes on the ground, rather than in front of you, but the moment the ground levelled, you took a breather under a nearby shelter.
The rain was still coming down hard as you leant against the withering wood frame of the shelter. With your arms crossed over your chest to keep warm, you watch the rain, listening to the sounds. The wind blowing it in every direction but also shaking the leaves above. Thunder rolled in, making you step back further into the shelter.
“It is not safe for you to be out here.” A voice called out, making you turn quickly.
You reply back whilst looking over the omnic. “Neither is it for you.”
He goes to speak once more but holds himself back, instead moving further into the shelter.
There was an eerie silence as the two of you stayed under for awhile, letting the rain pass. You stayed quiet, watching the rain lighten up before you deemed it safe enough to wander back out and home.
The omnic doesn’t say anything, waiting there a little while longer as he watches you leave. He wonders where he had seen you before and then it clicks. This wasn’t your first encounter with him. It was the second and he never forgets a face.
Last week you were resting under the shelter not far from the repair shop reading. He had stood near you, not wanting to disrupt you, but the moment you closed your book and looked up at him, the smile that embraced your face engrained itself into his systems.
He had hoped to see you again and his circuits warmed when he did.
And again when he saw you a few days later at the same shelter. It wasn’t raining this time, but it was cold. His temperature was keeping him warm, circling that heat around his chassis, but he could see you were shivering.
The winter weather was brutal, your gloves and scarf were merely decoration. The sudden drop in temperature meant you weren’t prepared at all, having to grab whatever you could find within the workshop before you left.
“You should hurry home.” The omnic spoke out, stepping under the shelter.
“I would, but I’m too cold to move right now.”
“You will freeze to death if you stay out here any longer.” His optics scan your figure, noting the shivering and your temperature lower than normal.
“I wasn’t prepared for this drop in temperature.” You speak between shuddered breaths.
He looks ahead, a slight nod. “It was sudden, yes.”
You hum in response, tucking your hands into your pockets.
“How far do you walk from here?” He asked.
“About forty minutes.”
For once, the omnic felt concerned. “There is a tea house that is closer. Perhaps you should rest there and warm up.” He points back towards the village as you look up at him.
“Maybe I will. Thank you.” You smile up at him and step out from under the shelter.
“Ramattra.” He calls out, causing you to stop and turn to him. “I am Ramattra.”
He noticed your smile again as you spoke. “[y/n].” You bow your head slightly. “It’s a pleasure to put a name to the face.”
“I agree.” He hums, watching you turn and scurry off back to the village.
There was a long while before Ramattra saw you again. Part of him hurt and he was confused as to why. He has never felt this way before, especially for a human. The moment he saw you under the shelter not far from the decline, he wandered over, staff in one hand while he raised the other.
When you saw him approaching and waving at you, you returned the gesture, waving back and smiling.
“We have to stop meeting like this?” You joke, watching as he stands next to you, closer than he has ever done before.
“Who is to say that this is not my favourite part of the day.” He looks down at you from the side, a chuckle escaping his vocaliser.
“Oh stop it.” You laugh, cheeks blushing ever so slightly as you stare out into the rain.
“It has been awhile since I last saw you.” He states.
“Late night repairs.” You sigh softly. “There’s been a lot of trouble recently.”
The omnic nods. “I have heard. I did not think it would be that bad.”
“I’m the only one around here capable of fixing omnics, so they all come to me.”
“Would you require assistance?” Ramattra asks.
You look up at him, smiling gently. “Company wouldn’t be so bad.”
The omnic laughs, something he had not done in a long time. “Then perhaps I will meet you tomorrow, at the workshop this time.”
“Yeah… I’d like that.”
Ramattra nods, the same warmth circling his chassis as he looks down at you smiling up at him. From chance meetings at the shelter, the omnic was glad there was a human out there capable of emotions and caring for his kind. He wanted to know more about you, to help you.
He wanted to be with you longer.

Cities by Impressiveness of Mountain Backdrop / Rut
by u/Gigitoe
After seeing the recent posts Cities with a better mountain backdrop than LA? ( u/odi3luck ) and This is a response to the LA mountain backdrop ( u/sam_woke ), I realized that I had the exact tools to answer a particularly niche but interesting question:
How do we quantify how impressive a city's mountain backdrop is?
To answer this question, we use rut, an indicator I developed back in the days to quantify how sharply or impressively the surroundings of a location rise above the location. (my research paper if you're interested)
Roughly speaking, rut works as follows:
The higher the mountains rise above a city, the more impressive they are, and the higher the rut.
The steeper the mountains rise above a city, the more impressive they are, and the higher the rut.
In the map shown, I measured the rut of every city with a population of over 100,000. Here's some cities in each tier and their corresponding rut values:
S tier - rut > 500 m (world-class, would visit for mountain views alone) -
Pokhara, Nepal (1358 m) | Chamonix, France (1336 m) [not on map; population too low] | Zermatt, Switzerland (904 m) [not on map] | Yosemite Valley, CA (617 m) [not on map] | Innsbruck, Austria (584 m)
A tier - rut between 200 to 500 m (impressive, but probably wouldn't visit just for mountain views)
Kathmandu, Nepal (482 m) | Almaty, Kazakhstan (478 m) | Santiago, Chile (469 m) | Provo, UT (429 m) | Tehran, Iran (349 m) | Lhasa, Tibet (325 m) | Monterrey, Mexico (268 m) | Tacoma, WA (245 m) | Kabul, Afghanistan (232 m)
B tier - rut between 100 and 200 m (mountains in close proximity, or big mountains further away)
Salt Lake City, UT (180 m) | Reno, NV (151 m) | Tucson, AZ (141 m) | Seattle, WA (137 m) | Vancouver, Canada (136 m) | Los Angeles, CA (117 m) | Milan, Italy (100 m)
C tier (glorified hills nearby, or distant mountains, or very distant big mountains) - rut between 25 and 100 m
Denver, CO (99 m; if only it had one more meter) | Tokyo, Japan (94 m) | Hong Kong (75 m) | Seoul, Korea (56 m) | Rome, Italy (48 m) | Knoxville, TN (39 m) | Beijing, China (37 m) | Sacramento, CA (30 m)
D tier (hills nearby, or glorified hills in the distance, or very distant mountains) - rut between 10 and 25 m
Istanbul, Turkey (24 m) | Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (23 m) | San Francisco, CA (22 m) | Quebec, Canada (17 m) | Mumbai, India (15 m) | Brisbane, Australia (12 m) | Pittsburgh, PA (10 m)
F tier (flat tier) - rut between 0 and 10 m
Syracuse, NY (7.4 m) | Birmingham, AL (5.2 m) | Dubai, UAE (5.0 m) | Columbus, OH (3.2 m) | Washington, DC (2.6 m) | Shanghai, China (2.4) | Paris, France (2.1 m) | London, UK (1.6 m) | New York City (0.7 m) | Chicago, IL (0.4 m)
So to answer the question, what cities have a better mountain backdrop than Los Angeles? Quite a lot... quite a lot.
Here's the data spreadsheet that was used to generate this map!
Edits: switched Vancouver to downtown measurement, added more cities, switched to steepness explanation instead of proximity explanation.
----------------
Note: rut measurements only consider rise above surroundings (relative height differences and steepness). They do not consider absolute elevation, nor the "aesthetics" of a mountain, nor visibility (or lack thereof) due to weather or smog.
This visualization was made possible with Google Earth Engine, MERIT DEM, and GeoNames.
If you like rut, you'll probably like its older brother jut even more. Jut is an indicator of  how impressive, spectacular, or badass a mountain is—considering both its height above surroundings and steepness. If you want to find the most impressive mountains near you or worldwide, you may find the link above to be useful.
Let us know if you have any questions or comments—I'm happy to address them!

Oh I hope to read your theory soon , I think it’s Everest Base Camp the busy days on SM possibly during acclimatising and now quiet on the actual trek . He has mentioned the documentary briefly in recent interviews saying the planned movie was cancelled , if not that I’d guess another book about the experience . Doubt he met with Jake N as a fan bet he was planning something .
Well you name the things we all saw. The movie that isn't going to happen, he so looked forward to it. Yes, we saw him with Jake N. while holding a book about Everest. Yes he mentioned a number of times how he would like to do a documentary or something about it. But did we really think he'd do it, and like now... doubtful.
Yes, I mentioned last Monday briefly, when I posted all the speculation about his whereabouts and said I considered Nepal seriously for a bit, and how I saw Jake N is in Nepal as well.
Yesterday I was chatting to someone with whom I often brainstorm and share thoughts regarding where he might be when it's not clear, or what he might be doing. We were talking about how normally there is always something, a lead, that points us in the right direction. Either by himself or by a fan pic or something.
Now knowing that he's been off the grid since last Thursday and the days before showing activity in a timezone that mostly matched Asia. I revisited the idea of Nepal, or India, Himalaya, trekking. I looked up some things on sites, and discovered how
November is a best time for trekking in India in winter, as the weather is generally cold and the landscapes are adorned with autumnal hues. If you’re an adventure adventure lover and seeking for amazing experience then India offers a various trekking options that allow you to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
And saw a number of treks in the Everest Basecamp area, and started looking at locations on IG. Wow quite stunning, I must say. Of course would love to find him in a pic or a video but quite honestly, the footage people post from there, wow, just wow so beautiful. What a fantastic place, and the way they talk about their treks and trips...
Tumblr media
Anyway, it was getting late (as usual) and I told my chat partner, I was gonna sleep and planned to look at it the next day. I was halfway up the stairs as it suddenly dawned on me. I almost banged my head against the wall, how could I forget... of course there is always a lead... I went back to my chat partner, cause I had to tell her...
Remember the shirt? No, not the one I posted in my previous post... this one
Tumblr media
Nepal... and the text on the sleeve
“I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and love today”
Someone back then already said,
"So is it a subliminal marketing choice for an upcoming Everest production or is he doing some deep diving into his future"
And now we're here... asking why he's off the grid for days now and was posting at this weird times... yeah makes sense now. Oh and btw. there's the Patagonia hat as well!
And even more... quite a number of people were saying how he seemed distracted lately, during the book events especially. Well, if he's there doing a trek of multiple days, and it is not gonna be an easy one (I mean, he already almost quite the WHW), I can imagine he might have been a little nervous about the kind of trip he was going to make.
Anyway, I haven't found the evidence (yet) so it's still a theory, but have seen such fantastic posts and stories about it all day, so no time wasted here. Loved to look at it, and will keep looking. Who knows maybe soon he'll give us a teaser. He could be off the grid for a while, though some of these treks have resting days, but most people post after their trek.
