Your tags made me curious, how would one get into playing Doom with barely any previous experience on such games?

the Chocolate Doom source port (so called because it's not Vanilla Doom, but very close to it) is free to download and supports a lot of total conversion mods if you want. i'd recommend trying mouse look if the original control scheme is too old school for you.

additionally, doom 1+2 have solid ports on platforms such as the nintendo switch if that's your thing.

my general doom 1+2 tips for new players who are more used to modern games are as follows:

hitscanning vs. projectiles: some enemies will 'hitscan' you, which means when they point a gun at you the game will instantaneously scan to see if it hits; there's no dodging if you're in that line of fire at that moment. a projectile, like a fireball, can be dodged if you get out of the way in time. other examples of projectiles are plasma shots and rockets.

that all said: hitscan enemies are a high priority! this is boomer shooter 101; be it the hitscan cultists from Blood, or the chaingunners from Doom, they aren't playing around!

some player projectiles, like the rockets, deal splash damage. keep this in mind; sometimes you don't want to aim for a direct hit.

enemies can be induced to infighting. if you, say, kite an imp's fireballs into a pinky, it will damage it and they may turn on each other.

keep moving! moving, especially circle strafing, is the key to classic doom encounters. you need to bamboozle the hitscanners by breaking up their line of sight, and break up the straight vectors of projectiles.

you cannot jump in doom like in other shooters, and modern players may find this jarring. however, there is a slight bit of time in midair before you start to fall, and a lot of the game is actually designed around this engine limitation. in order to get between two platforms a short distance from each other, you just need to run off of one at the other at high speed. if they're close enough, you'll reach the other platform before you fall.

enemies have pain states, this can be observed in their animations. while for example the super shotgun may damage enemies faster, some are better dealt with by interrupting their attacks with constant damage from a weapon like the chaingun. note which enemies can be stunlocked, how they can be stunlocked, and which enemies *need* to be stunlocked.

the y axis is sheared and you gotta get some practice in with not necessarily aiming up or down, but triggering the game to aim up or down for you. you get a feel over time for when this is going to happen.

save frequently. if you die, you will be forced to restart the level with just the pistol (called 'pistol starting') and the first time a new player learns that will be frustrating.

use the minimap often, and take note of where secrets might be. on higher difficulties, the extra stuff you get in secrets (getting a strong weapon a level or two early, megaarmor, etc) are actually required to keep up.

secrets can often be found by running along walls/level geometry and mashing the use key (this has been lovingly phrased 'wall humping' because of the null sound the player makes when mashing 'use')

pro tip for the cyberdemon: shoot at it until it dies

104. Sonic the Hedgehog #61

Outback Gut Check

I've had my mind blown! I actually had no idea that "Harvo" and "Harvey Mercadoocasio" were the same person up until now. I always assumed "Harvo" was just a random guy using an alias or something, but nope, it's a nickname! My mistake.

Anyway, we open this issue with Guru Emu and Wombat Stu of the Downunda Freedom Fighters stuck in cages hanging above the ground, and Sonic, Tails, Barby Koala and Walt Wallabee down below, surrounded by a veritable army of platypuses that all look identical to Duck "Bill" apart from their color scheme, because in this universe, I can't stress enough how every Mobian species are just clones of one another (with the exception of armadillos apparently, if you look at Mighty vs. Arlo). We're thrown right into the action as the four who aren't caged up defend themselves from the attack fairly easily.

They manage to chase everyone off, and Sonic smashes open the cages, leaving everyone free to discuss amongst themselves what the hell is going on and give a convenient recap to us readers. Apparently, after the DFF sent the postcard to Knothole, they started cleaning the site of the prison camp up, which included disposing of many pieces of Crocbot's body that they found scattered around.

Soon after, Bill began leading a band of renegade platypuses, attacking the site of the cleanup operation and forcing it to be abandoned due to safety concerns. He then sent a peace offer to his former teammates, and Guru and Stu went to verify it only to predictably be captured. At the same time, Sonic and Tails arrived, having been ordered to check up on the DFF since they were in the area, and found Walt and Barby about to set out to rescue their friends, and thus they all teamed up. Now that reinforcements have arrived, they set off to take down Bill's operation once and for all, rafting down the river in pursuit.

I dunno why Sonic and Walt are being played off as hostile to one another, because it doesn't actually end up tying into the plot of this story at all, but whatever. They're ambushed from the water by a gang of platypuses on crocodile mounts, because why not? It's not even clear if they're Mobian crocs like Vector or just random wild crocs, but either way, Sonic fends them off by kicking up water, something which should not logically be a deterrent to platypuses or crocodiles by any stretch, and they reach Bill's hideout with relative ease.

Well that seems bizarre. They open up the floorboards to find none other than Crocbot, the eternal thorn in the DFF's side, half-disassembled and incapable of moving on his own. Man, this guy just won't die, will he? The second he's spotted he lays out his entire plan in multiple paragraphs without even being asked, about how when Bill was still trapped in his torture camp he implanted him with a mind control chip that lay dormant, and during the cleanup when he saw Crocbot's mangled remains it reactivated the chip, causing him to steal Crocbot's body and start rebuilding it in secret while raising his own platypus army to fight for him. Crocbot ends his little rant by saying his defeat doesn't matter either way, as the bunyip is about to arrive, but is disconnected before he can finish. With the threat ended for now, Sonic and Tails say goodbye and fly off once again.

Okay, first of all, yes the bunyip may be from Aborigine mythology, but that shouldn't even be something y'all talking animals should be aware of given you're not even living in the same world as we are. Second of all, yeah, Barby was flirting with Tails pretty hard throughout the entire story, something which is hella creepy if you consider that she's portrayed more as a teenager or young adult along with the other Downunda Freedom Fighters. She's not implied to be Tails' age at all. Apparently Ian Flynn acknowledged this much later on when he took over as head writer, stating that he would never consider making Barby/Tails a thing as long as he was in charge, because yeah, it's freaking weird. I don't know why Michael would even bother writing something like this in at all, but well, we already know he has a weird interest in setting up Tails with random female characters (as we saw with that awful "boing!" sound effect the moment Tails saw Fiona). It would have been a lot less awkward if he just played this as like, Barby being sweet to Tails because he's a little kid and Tails developing a kid crush on her, but no, he had to make it weird and write about a teenage girl flirting with a ten-year-old. Let it never be said that Ken Penders was the only one who wrote really inappropriate uncomfortable stuff for this comic, okay?

Total Turbulence

After their little adventure in Downunda, Sonic and Tails are flying over the ocean when they end up flying into a storm. What's more, the tracker on their plane that maps out Naugus' path across the world via his magic residue or whatever is going haywire and pointing in a dozen different directions. Apparently this is because… they're inside Naugus!

I don't know how they missed the fact that the clouds directly in front of them are shaped exactly like their adversary, but sure, okay! He whacks the plane, sending it careening down towards the ocean, but at the last second Sonic is able to pull up and get them flying again. In doing so, he inadvertently sets the plane on a direct collision course with Naugus' water-vapor-y face.

Imagine if that actually killed him? All his power and he just got exploded 'cause a plane flew into his face while he was in cloud form? Man, I would love that.

On His Majesty's Secret Service

Anyone remember Commander Fleming? He was an officer under Geoffrey in the Rebel Underground. He and Geoffrey are working to disarm more traps within Robotropolis, but Fleming is just getting too old to continue active service, and announces his resignation. Thus, King Acorn orders Geoffrey to begin putting together a new team to operate as a secret service for him.

Geoffrey already has three candidates in mind. The first is on the Floating Island, where Geoffrey fires off a trap from his crossbow towards a seemingly empty tree and catches, wouldn't you know it, an Espio clone! Except this guy is blue instead of purple. Apparently he once served as a secret operative and Geoffrey is bringing him back in. His next target is none other than Wombat Stu, whom he flies all the way to Downunda to drop in on and recruit. I'm surprised that Stu agrees so instantaneously, given that well, doesn't he already have his own team that he's loyal to? A team with whom he just risked his life to rescue one of its members and defeat their old adversary once again? Eh, whatever. Geoffrey finally drops in on Hershey as she's doing some paperwork for the princess, and simply tells her to "show up at the armory tomorrow morning" without even asking her properly if she wants in, apparently counting that as a successful recruitment. With that, he goes to bed, apparently having done all this within the span of one day - airplanes must be massively faster and more high tech in this world than our own if he was able to fly across the entire globe and back in one day - trusting that a good sleep will help him decide on the final member to recruit.

DEATH BATTLE Review: Carnage vs. Lucy

WARNING: The following review contains descriptions and screenshots of extreme blood and gore. Viewer discretion is advised.

So, according to commentary, this matchup was decided by the crew, and not by fan votes. They supposedly had a hard time determining a good Carnage opponent, and this was the best one with the most connections.

This is the Third (technically fourth) Comic Book vs. Manga/Anime fight since Captain Marvel vs. Android 18, and both Goku vs. Superman episodes.

Carnage′s Preview.

Carnage’s Origin Story is gone over, and the hosts comment about it. We know how this works by now. Cletus was a bad kid, and he really needed to be put into a higher-security prison to make his actual imprisonment effective.

(What’s with murderous psychopaths and having teddy bears?- First Bane, now Cletus. It’s getting weird).

So, Cletus’ Symbiote is given their own stat sheet, and is given a quick rundown.

(I’m going to guess that the 360 perception doesn’t really count if the thing he’s trying to attack is invisible to his own eyes).

(Sorry about the poor quality of the screenshot. I was in a bit of a rush to get this done since… Uh, blood. This episode features a lot of blood).

And apparently, Carnage traded his sound weakness to a weakness to that Chthonic Magic, so sound isn’t much of a thing that can hurt him anymore. I guess Songbird and Black Bolt ought to watch out for this guy if Carnage ever shows up at their front door.

Kinda of a meek end line, considering that this is Carnage we’re talking about.

Lucy′s Preview.

Seriously. Turn back now. Lucy’s rundown contains a lot of blood and gore. I did my best to not include any gratuitous blood, but it’s still there. If you’re reading this while watching the episode, turn back now if you don’t want to be grossed out.

Only warning indeed.

So, Lucy’s origin includes the stuff on the Dicloni, and how she was captured and why she needed to be captured, and it’s really dark. As an aside, who here thinks that Lucy would be welcomed by the X-Men, on account that she’s got a superpower, and all that?- Well, her less murder-y side, anyways.

(I doubt that healing factor would make a difference).

So, Kaede seems like a nice girl and all, until she was pushed to a breaking point. Yeesh, what is up with these psychopaths and being pushed to a breaking point?

Lucy’s Vectors, much like the Symbiote Cletus wears, is given its own rundown. And it seems like my initial claim that Lucy wouldn’t have any access to fire is incorrect. I am willing to admit my mistake, and acknowledge that I was underinformed for Lucy’s powerset. So with this, I have a feeling that Lucy has an immediate edge.

And given the multiple personalities that she has, it’s likely that she’s… messed up. Poor girl, she’s been through a lot.

(Note to self: Try to see if I can’t get Nyu’s personality out more).

Boomstick’s voice telling her to kill them before they hurt puppies is both adorable and hilarious. Boomstick’s clearly a dog fan. Makes me dread if they ever bring in Iggy from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, considering the little guy uh… dies.

So Lucy’s Vector movement is faster than Venom’s top recorded speed, and since it’s reasonable to scale Carnage to Venom, it’s likely that Carnage isn’t going to move fast enough to dodge all of those Vectors at once. Speaking of Vectors, why not Medusa from Soul Eater?

And Lucy’s feats… Yeah, they blow Carnage’s out of the Klyntar-infested water.

(Blocking SLAM missiles?- That’s badass).

They thankfully go over some weaknesses, so it’s clear that she’s not invincible. Blows to the head, or cutting off one of her horns will nullify her vectors, and she can apparently melt.

Yeah, warning, I’m about to show you guys the screenshot. Because if I have to suffer in seeing it, then so do you!

(I said blood, not gore).

And they even go over her redemption, and how it wasn’t so hopeless after all……… Before cutting away to her just flat-out murdering a bunch of other people in lieu of an end line. The music just makes it really creepy and hilarious at the same time.

The Battle Itself.

Zack, Kervin, Luis, and Jerky are tackling this animation project. Danielle McRae is voicing Lucy, while Christopher Guerreo is voicing Carnage. Brandon Yates is doing the music on this. Kokkinos has sound.

So the story for this one is basically just Nyu waiting for a train, and Carnage killing everyone aboard because he’s Carnage. I guess Lucy took over to protect Nyu.

The music does a really great job at setting the mood, it’s called Chorus of Carnage, and it’s really good and has such a poetic title. I know what I’m listening to on Halloween.

Props to the animators for making Carnage’s sprite work well with Lucy’s invisible Vectors. It feels reminiscent of Jotaro’s fight with Kenshiro before Kenshiro used Toki to sense SP.

And Lucy’s initial and go-to attack don’t really do much against Carnage’s healing factor. So, the battle rages on with Carnage struggling to land a hit on the Diclonius Queen. It takes a while, and a lot of effort, but he lands some cuts on the girl.

So, after Lucy manages to slam Carnage into the train, he starts a taunt. It’s… Pretty dark.

Lucy’s Vectors are just starting to get to the higher frequencies, and, she delivers a pretty damn good one-liner.

“Does it hurt yet?- Don’t worry. I’ll put you out of your misery.”

And props to Carnage for not going out like a bitch. He just says “I hate you.” and then he blows up.

Even the clouds clear as sunlight comes in to brighten the day. One less serial killer to worry about… Until I revive him for story purposes.

Verdict + Explanation.

So, apparently that explosion was certainly enough to kill Carnage. And Boomstick rejoices at the fact that there’s one less dog-killer out there.

And while Carnage could land some cuts, it was primarily through projectiles, as Lucy’s Vectors would just be too much for a melee attack. So, possession was off the table.

But that’s not to say that Carnage was helpless. His healing abilities gave him the durability, but Lucy fighting as a puddle meant that Carnage’s punishment wouldn’t be enough to incapacitate her unless he landed a blow to her horns. Which, given that Lucy is likely aware of this weakness, she would be careful to not let it happen.

In terms of strength, Carnage overpowered several opponents that had massive advantages in that category, but Lucy’s own demonstrated feats of strength overwhelm Carnage’s scaled and demonstrated strength.

Really though, the battle did come down to who could land a fatal blow first. Similar to another Marvel character who fought a non-DC opponent. The overall question is muddled a bit thanks to Carnage’s healing, but it gets less muddled thanks to Lucy’s explosive Vectors that got compared to Nuclear Fusion. And since there’s no evidence to suggest that Carnage could survive such a massive amount of heat, it’s entirely possible that Lucy could totally incinerate Carnage if given the chance.

And given that Carnage isn’t likely to power through Lucy’s Vectors anytime soon (Thanks to the latter’s speed and strength), Lucy had more opportune moments to kill Carnage. It’s even pointed out in a notecard.

Really though, Boomstick’s end line didn’t really have a good Lied-in.

Overall impression.

Really though, I know that October is slated for Battle 100, but I feel that this would have worked better then. Two Psychopathic murderers going at each other with deadly force, and the chilling music makes it all the more eerie. It feels like a slight missed opportunity, and there’s no notecard explaining why Carnage tagging Nova wasn’t mentioned. Perhaps during the podcast, but it would have been nice to have heard or read why it didn’t count in the actual episode.

Aside from that, the music and animation is really good, but it feels like there could have been a tad more effort put into Lucy’s sprite. It felt odd seeing a minimalist looking sprite interacting with a detailed sprite like the one Carnage got. I get that Elfin Lied is a bit obscure, and that there wouldn’t be many good sprites to use, but Lucy looks her best when we get a close-up of her hand-drawn face.

That being said, the explanation is really good, but once Lucy’s explosive Vectors are mentioned, it becomes a foregone conclusion. Lucy just needs to land that once to finish the fight, and we just saw her move her Vector hands into space. She could fight at a distance, and keep Carnge away from her.

7.0/10 The fight’s good, and the music is really awesome, but it’s not exactly an “up in the air” fight. Overall, the moment the Nuclear Fusion hands get mentioned, you know it’s leaning towards Lucy, and that sort of lack of suspense makes it hard to enjoy. It’s not even something like Flash vs. Quicksilver, in which you know who’s going to win, but the setting and reasoning for the fight is unique and interesting. Maybe if Lucy had gotten on the train, and they had fought there, it would have been more unique, but it doesn’t really have a unique edge. And the lighting is weird, which makes it harder to track Carnage. While this might have been the intent, it’s odd that both Symbiote fights involve a lot of dark lighting.

But the result is well-justified, and the parts that can be seen are really great. So, I’d say that the score is fair.

Next Time…

It’s been a while since we last had a Transformer, and it’s about time that we did get one. Though, I won’t really cry if Prime loses. It’s a running gag that he dies a lot at this point.

Circle Area Calculator

While the circle, symbolically, represent many different things to different groups of people, including concepts such as eternity, immortality, and totality, the circle by definition is a simple form is closed. This is the set of all points in the plane equidistant from a given point, called the center. All these values are related through a mathematical constant π, or pi, which is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and approximately 3.14159. π is an irrational number, which means that it can not be expressed exactly as fractions (though often estimated as 22/7) and the decimal representation never ends or has a permanent repeating pattern. It is also a transcendental number, which means that it is not the root of any non-zero rational polynomial coefficient. Interestingly, evidence by Ferdinand von Lindemann in 1880 that π is transcendental finally put an end to thousands of years-long quest that begins with the ancient geometers "squaring the circle." June update

I am late once again on posting my goals. Let’s see how I’ve progressed.

work - do good at my job, actuary, investment, do my own taxes and loans, organize my life

social - making friends, find a girl, looking clean

entertainment - Pokemon, TV, running

At work, I’m starting to get busy. I’m not at the point where I should be, but I’m asking for help less often these days. When I do ask for help, my questions are becoming more specific.

I have learned how to use R daily, although I am behind on my learning schedule. I think I have figured out the basics on how to use R. Its just a matter of applying it to different concepts that is difficult, such as bootstrapping or support vector machines. I’ll continue to keep using R until I get my actuary results back, which should be coming any day now.

Also, I learned about integrating R and Excel. There’s a program called BERT which does just that. I want to try it out this month.

Unexpectedly, I passed my actuary exam in April. I got a very low score, but its still passing. I guess my plan now is to study for MAS II in the fall and Exam 5 in 2020, then I’m done with actuary exams for a few years. This one will be hard because there’s limited materials online and limited study options. For MAS I, I used Mahler because of its good reviews. However, only 40 people took MAS II in Fall 2018, which was the first time the exam was offered. So there’s limited study materials and limited feedback on this exam, which is a challenge.

What I had before I found out I passed: (If I fail, then I will take MAS I again in the fall and pass. Then I’ll take IFM in March 2020 and pass, and exam 5 in October 2020 and pass. This gives me a lot of study time for both exams. Then in 2021, I’ll start taking online courses and in 2022 I will fulfill my VEEs, or the other way around. In 2023, I should be able to take the engineering PE exam, although if there’s a way to take it sooner, then I will do that.)

I haven’t started investing yet, or doing my own taxes and loans. I will get to that sooner.

I need to organize my room, make sure I know where everything is, and organize my USB drives and files. I also need to fix my computer. I have started uploading all my photos into Google Drive, although that takes a while with 5000 pictures, but I should be done by next Monday. Also, many pictures are not mine.

I have not made any friends besides a guy I met in October. He’s my only friend. I wouldn’t consider the guy I met at church a friend even though we play Pokemon. I really want to get together with him one day to play Pokemon, but I know that will never happen. And there isn’t a girl in my life at the moment. I’m still trying to get over my girl in London. I still feel sad thinking about her.

Pokemon is going great. I started collecting Pokemon with Hidden Abilities, although I should wait on that until next year and continue restarting my game and collecting legendary Pokemon. I need to go to the library and get Pokemon Sun, X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Black (the only ones available) and collect legendaries there. I can even use my Pokemon friend’s game to help me collect Pokemon. I would like to collect all Pokemon with HA, extract the Pokemon I want to keep from my Alolan dex, and have backups of every legendary Pokemon. With Pokemon Sun, I want to start out with a Popplio, transfer it over to UM to train, breed 6 competitive Cutieflies in Sun, transfer them back over to UM to train, then transfer them to Sun to grind through the game. Then I’ll restart UM and train my starter Popplio in Sun to grind out UM again.

When restarting my games in the 7th generation, I want to transfer out my Alolan living dex to get the shiny charm. Then I want to transfer all my junk Pokemon over before restarting the game since I have at least 2000 Pokemon that I’ve bred/transferred/caught over the past year.

Man in the High Castle was great. Season 3 was a little dull, so I didn’t understand it much. Some of Frank’s scenes could have been deleted, but I’m glad he finally found a way to resist the government through his artwork. I knew his character’s story needed to involve art in some way. I still hate Kido, but at least they had an understanding of each other before Kido struck Frank. I will miss their rivalry, but Kido vs Tagomi is still a thing, which is better since its more political.

At the end of season 2, I felt so proud of Juliana for saving the world. She got better when she killed Joe Blake. I liked Joe at the beginning, but it seems like they always had trouble coming up with stuff for him to do since he’s not interesting without Juliana.

Nicole was a great character in Season 2 and they ruined her in season 3. I think the only reason why they brought her back is because perverts like me like looking at her. But making her bi and the leader of the press were just terrible. Also, she supports the destruction of the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty, which John Smith isn’t too happy about.

John Smith went through a lot in Season 3. He keeps climbing the ranks of the Nazis, but he keeps losing everything else in the process, including his wife and kids, who are running away from him. I hope his remaining kids are ok, because his wife made it seem like she killed her kids, and I doubt that’s the case.

The whole sci-fi aspect of the show is really boring. This makes it so that characters are “safe” and may come back in the future, which isn’t very fun. I like when death means that the character no longer appears. Plus I see this show as a realistic historical fiction show, not sci-fi, and it should have stayed that way, which made Season 3 hard to watch and follow. Maybe it is one of those things where it is more interesting when used modestly, but once it becomes the main focus of the series, it gets to be too much.

The end of Game of Thrones was very controversial. I enjoyed the characters around Arya. My favorite moments were when the Hound said goodbye to Arya and when Gendry proposed to Arya. Both were sad, but they were the best moments in the season. Its where you finally see that the hound really cared about Arya and they had grown fond of each other, which is nice because Arya used to hate him.

I haven’t run in a while, but I should start up again soon. I have to or else I’ll lose again next year.

For the rest of June and July, I hope to finish all the source readings for MAS II. I’ll play volleyball on Tuesdays and Fridays. I’ll play Pokemon Sun from the library.

I really liked your recent answer about math in game design, but im curious what KINDS of math game designers should learn. Like, what is geometry useful for vs., say, calculus? Are there any fields of math that aren't useful in game design?

Here are some design examples of when I would use specific types of math to figure stuff out. Note that this is by no means exhaustive.

Basic Algebra

Almost everything requires algebraic knowledge. This math is necessary for understanding and answering one of the fundamental questions in game development: “How long will this take?”

For example:

How long will it take for a set of raid-equipped players to kill the evil Wombat of Doom?

How long will it take for the average player to reach the end of this level if Mario’s run speed is X meters per second and his jump speed is Y meters per second?

How long should one match in my fighting game take?

How long will the lock picking minigame run before the player gets frustrated?

Advanced Algebra

Anything that involves character stats or coming up with a formula for something. If I raise strength by 1, I might raise my melee damage by 5. But if I raise my strength from 99 to 100, I might want to reward the player for putting a lot of points into strength, so instead, the more strength the player gets, the bigger the damage bonus becomes. Or maybe I want the enemy to scale with the player’s level, so 100 strength at level 5 is fantastic, but 100 strength at level 50 is pitiful.

Geometry and Trigonometry

Anything that involves 2- or 3-dimensional space. How far are two objects from each other? What shape is the area of effect? How much explorable area should this dungeon have? How wide should this corridor be? If I place this key object here and the locked doorway there, will the player be able to see both of them at the same time? How much higher do I need to make this ledge so that the player can jump across the gap?

Probability and Statistics

Anything that involves randomization like loot drops, procedural map generation, procedural monster generation, etc. For example… if I send the player on a quest to collect five wombat tails, how often should the tails drop if I want the quest to last for five minutes? If there is a worldwide quest that requires all players to collect and refine bolts of silk cloth to hand in to an NPC, how much cloth should that NPC require to make the quest last for at least two weeks with the average number of players per server? How often do the items of different rarities appear inside a randomized booster pack?

Are there any fields of math that aren’t useful in game design?

I hesitate to say that there are fields aren’t ever useful, but it tends to be more theoretical stuff like set theory or chaos theory. I haven’t used a lot of the more advanced calculus stuff like partial derivatives or differential equations. You really don’t need advanced math knowledge for game design, but it is very useful to have some understanding of advanced math for game programmers (especially vector math and understanding of matrices, trigonometry, and quaternions).
