Test my tempered metal... and you will be put on notice!
It had been a few days since the test and I was beginning to wear out Grandma’s carpet with all my pacing back and forth. And, I was pretty sure that God was getting a little tired of me praying while pacing. Nonetheless, it was all I knew to do while I waited and waited, and still waited for the test results to come in. Finally, a phone call, it was my recruiter, the Senior Chief, a man I was…

Modern! Azriel/ Navy Seal! Azriel x reader
Wordcount: 900ish
Warnings: annoying drill sergeant, couple curse words, not super gendered (like one mention of a dress)
A/N: az is a cutie in this one too :)))
Modern!Azriel who grew up in the same trashy neighborhood as you and cass and rhys.
Modern!Azriel who was determined to make it out despite what his shitty father and half-brothers had to say about it.
Modern!Azriel who was somehow top 10 in your graduating class despite missing like half of junior and senior year to work and help his mom pay the bills.
Modern!Azriel who got a 1500 on the SAT and a 96 on his ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test.
Modern!Azriel who knew that his best chance out of the hood was the military (also probably not the best way to work out all his anger)
Modern!Azriel who convinces cass to join him and they both enlist in the battle buddy program together. (they both deploy together so they always have a homie to rely on)
Modern!Azriel who is a fucking 6’4” unit and is recruited by the navy bc he’s massive and a genius and secretly speaks like 5 languages (bc his mom is an immigrant and they’re like that)
the drill sergeant just about dropped and foamed at the mouth at the sight of azriel and cassian (drill sergeant goes on a tangent about finally getting some “real sailors” and the rest of the unit literally hates them bc yeah he’s right they don’t compare)
Modern!Azriel who (alongside cassian) gets asked to apply to seal school and they graduate with some of the highest BUD/S scores the navy has ever seen (his mom is super proud and makes him mole de pollo bc its his favorite and she loves her son and his friends)
Modern!Azriel who makes it to captain in six years instead of the average nine bc he’s just that good
Modern!Azriel who always remembered you as his kind coworker from his trashy minimum wage dishwashing job in high school and definitely not as his friend’s cute younger sister.
Modern!Azriel who remembers every time you brought him dinner and badly lied about how you hated to waste food and didn’t know what to do with the leftovers so he wouldn’t feel bad about eating it (bc times were tough in HS and he really wasn’t eating enough at all)
Modern!Azriel who just kind of slowly blinks at you when him and his unit walk into the museum that you’ve been working at.
Modern!Azriel whose chest tightens with something strange when your whole face lights up after recognizing him.
Modern!Azriel who has only had casual flings (mostly bc he was always away for work) but feels his heart drop to his feet when you press your lips to his left cheek and give his arms a little squeeze.
Modern!Azriel whose whole body relaxes when you pull him into a hug. who’s knees almost give out when you rub your manicured hands up and down his biceps and whisper about how you missed him–how you were worried about him.
his whole team will harass him later about his reaction and beg for the details behind your history because even though they’re navy seals they’re really just chismosas on the inside.
Modern!Azriel who is seriously so confused as to how you (someone who was so kind and loving) could be involved in counter-terrorism.
Modern!Azriel who is shocked when you explain to him that the art world is full of criminals and that terrorists especially love to use expensive art as methods of payment for whatever horrible acts they want to commit.
Modern!Azriel whose chest puffs with pride when he hears you tell your boss that you have full faith in his unit and their abilities bc “azriel isn’t the kind of man who lets people down”
Modern!Azriel who is supposed to be paying attention to the baroque painting on the wall but can’t take his eyes off of you in your beautiful, floor-length, velvet gown.
Modern!Azriel who takes out two things in one night: a secret terrorist cell and you to dinner.
Modern!Azriel who realizes he hasn’t been able to have a serious relationship bc he’s been in love with you this whole time (read: since he was literally 9 years old and you told him he had the prettiest eyes in the world)
Modern!Azriel who wears the matching bracelet you got him every single day. especially when he’s deployed bc a photo of you might actually be too dangerous for the field
Modern!Azriel who never tells you exactly what he does just that he’s the captain of a navy seal unit bc its classified, but you still worry (especially bc you’re a historian and can almost immediately tell where he’s been in the world based on the souvenirs he brings you)
Modern!Azriel who almost bursts into tears when you tell him you love him first bc he’d  been struggling to get the words out for weeks
Modern!Azriel who gets to experience softness from someone other than his mother for the first time in his life
Modern!Azriel who is in a healthy, positive relationship with someone who loves all of him including his flaws.
Modern!Azriel whose partner teaching him about emotional maturity and communication and slowly walks with him down his healing journey
Modern!Azriel who is pathetically in love with his partner and can’t wait to start their life together.

"Good morning Sweet Tooth, how are you today?". I asked, locking the door behind me. "Much better now that you're here Y/N. What are we doing today?" he pats on the spot beside him. "Unfortunately we have to do some tests today buuut I have a surprise for you when you're finished." I said sitting down next to him. "Oh, I love surprises Y/N. What kind of test is this?" "It's a bit of everything an intelligence test,a personality test, an aptitude test and a vocational test. You can take your time." with that I handed him the papers and watched him filling them out. I couldn't help myself but I had to admit that I started to feel something for him." Like this? " he asked getting me out of my thoughts." Huh? Oh yes very good Sweet Tooth. " " Thank you Y/N" he said a little pride in his voice. "Alright now to your surprise, close your eyes and hold your hand out." he did as I said and opened his hand for me. "Alright open your eyes." "Oh my... How did you know that I love Skittles? Thank you so much Y/N." he said and pulled me into a tight hug, I was surprised at first but then I hugged him back. I knew he was my patient but holding him so close felt amazing. "You're very welcome Sweet Tooth. When we first met you said that you almost like me as much as Skittles so I thought I bring you some." "You know, it's been a long time since someone brought me a gift. Thank you so much Y/N this means a lot. Umm... can I ask you something?" he said looking down "Of course what's up?" "Can we play that question game again?" I was a little surprised but I agreed. "Of course we can do that Sweet Tooth, you wanna start?" "Yes please, Y/N do you have a boyfriend?" I laughed "No Sweet Tooth I don't have a boyfriend. I'm always working and I have zero social contacts. Hmm..." "But you're so kind and beautiful and spending time with you is wonderful." Sweet Tooth said "I...not everyone feels the same about me. You're actually the only person that really enjoys my company and... nevermind." now he got up and took my hands " No please Y/N tell me." I took a deep breath " I like you Sweet Tooth... I like you alot." "Oh Y/N that's wonderful I like you too. I can't stop thinking about you and I miss you so much when you're gone." I felt tears welling in my eyes "Please don't say that, you're my patient. We can't be together." "But why? Why is it bad when two people like each other?" "I'm going to lose my job if someone finds out Sweet Tooth and we won't see each other again. I couldn't handle that." he gently squeezed my hands. "But we can be careful Y/N. We..." "No Sweet Tooth I...I have to think about this. I'm sorry." with that I opened the door and left.

Another study found that when psychometric assessments were used as part of a comprehensive career counselling intervention, participants showed significant increases in self-awareness, self-efficacy, and hope (Gelso & Carter, 1985).
These are all important factors in successful career development.
A meta-analysis of research on  assessments used in career counselling showed they make positive contributions to life outcomes such as educational and employment decisions, satisfaction with life and work, and mental health (Holland et al., 2013).
Research suggests these assessments can be a beneficial aid in career counselling. They can help people recognize their strengths and passions, pair them with appropriate jobs, and foster self-understanding and trust in their decisions about their future.
This article has examined the science behind successful careers and how these assessments help counsellors guide their clients towards achieving their objectives.
We have established that by ascertaining a person’s attributes, such as their skills, interests, values and personality traits, advisers can comprehend which career path may be most suitable for them.
Assessments like these are helpful to inform individuals about their capabilities and make informed selections on the profession they wish to pursue.
If we incorporate such tools into counselling sessions, we guarantee everyone is given a chance to reach their utmost capacity and locate satisfying pathways through life.

What is with parents and their directionless obsession towards levying their own ambitions on their children? I mean the number of children I get in my office who say that their parents won’t allow them to follow a particular sport/activity just because it cannot turn into a legit career is humungous.
Let me quote you a movie here, a Bollywood movie named “Taare Zameen Par” portrayed the ordeal of a sweet kid Ishaan who had a knack for painting, in fact, I daresay that he was a genius painter but rather than appreciating his talent and motivating him, his father was just was interested in his marks and always compared his younger son to his elder one. The kid Ishan had a learning disability “Dyslexia” due to which he was unable to cope up with the kids of his own age which sadly no one could understand and the kid eventually lost his zeal to paint since he was sent off to a boarding school as a punishment.
Luckily, Ishan came across a teacher who identified his ‘aptitude’ for painting and helped him with his learning disability too which unfortunately his father could not comprehend and appreciate. He was just concerned that an unconventional career like painting would not help Ishan make ends meet for himself.
It is unknown that how many Ishans are out there waiting to be discovered. It is sad that people fail to understand their aptitudes and make a career out of it. It is disheartening that people do not acknowledge that once a person identifies their aptitudes, they will eventually become successful and would most importantly be happy.
What really is aptitude? How can we identify it? Is there any means for people who are clueless about themselves to pin down their abilities or skills?
Aptitude can be expressed as a natural tendency, special ability or cluster of abilities. This natural tendency decides person’s readiness to learn or acquire a skill or their suitability to a particular stream. It is basically a natural or innate liking for some skill or activity. There is a high chance that you are born with a certain aptitude or bent towards a certain skill. Aptitude in one special ability or combination of some abilities helps a person to make desirable educational and vocational choices. In other words, these test helps an individual to pick out the career option that is best suited to one’s abilities.
Therefore, in order to assess the special or specific abilities in an individual, aptitude test was developed. There is a single aptitude test like, mechanical aptitude test, English test, and mathematical questionnaire and so on. Such test comprises of number of items that display abilities that are necessary for performance in a particular occupation.
Aptitude is basically, defined as an inborn tendency to do something, however, one’s environment (home or school or college) also plays a pivotal role in the development of those abilities or aptitude. Many times, despite having an aptitude of something a person might not able to get a supportive environment and therefore, as a result, they lack such ability.
USE OF APTITUDE TEST
1. An aptitude test generally gives factual information about a student’s abilities that ultimately motivates them and their parents to take a mutual decision that what career option they can pursue in the future. It is important to have self-awareness of one’s aptitude, otherwise, it might have a negative consequence. If a person is indulging in those activities that matches with their aptitude, then there is a huge chance of being successful, happy and content with one’s life and career.
2. With the knowledge of one’s aptitude, a student can work on them from the base level in order to attain proficiency and be well versed with the nature of work and dynamics of the jobs related to it.
3. Determining aptitude at the grass root level provides ample amount of time for preparation and confidence building which would be fruitful for the future.
