It was a quiet night in the ale house of Winchester where you served the customers. The majority of the crowd that night already went home hours ago, it was only Uthred’s men that hung around a little longer, wanting to prolong their last night before preparing for battle.

The group had settled in your little town a couple of months ago and they had quickly become your favorite regulars. Unlike some other locals they always treated you with respect, even when they had too much to drink they never forgot their manners. Both Finan and Sihtric as well as Uhtred had jumped in numerous times to help you deal with rude or too handsy drunken assholes and you had come to respect their group not only for their strength as warriors but mostly for their kindness. Having them around made you feel safer.

You were cleaning up behind the counter when Uthred came to you.

“Lady Y/N,” he leaned against the bar, greeting you with a big smile,”We will be out in a little while, I am sorry for keeping you here so late tonight.”

“That’s alright, I know you guys are leaving tomorrow. And I have no one waiting for me at home so…take all the time you need.”

He looked at you and shook his head,”How does a lady like you have no one waiting for her at home?”

You put down the glasses you’d been cleaning and gave him a smile,”I don’t know, the men in this town are idiots.”

“They must be,” he agreed, making you smile.

“Did you come here to flatter me or was there something else you wanted to ask?”

“Actually…I did have a question for you.”

You leaned against the bar to look at him,”Ask away.”

“We are leaving for battle tomorrow.”

“Yes, I have heard. Again?” you raised your eye brows at him.

He shook his head with a small grin,”Unfortunately again.”

“What do you need?”

“It is not me,” he explained,”But my friend…your favorite baby monk.”

You couldn’t help your lips from curling up into a smile at the mention of him. “What’s with my favorite baby monk?”

“He is very anxious tonight.”

“Then maybe you shouldn’t be so hard on him all the time and show him some more compassion.”

“He does not need compassion from me, my lady, that would not benefit him.”

“And what would benefit him then?” you asked, knowing precisely where he was going with this but wanting to hear him say it.

“Maybe…he just needs someone to be soft with him, tonight.”

“Be soft with him, huh? Uthred of Bebbanborg, you’d better not be suggesting what I think you are…”

He lifted his hands in innocence,”I would never suggest such a thing, my lady. I am merely…opting that maybe you could offer him some…comfort on this difficult night.”

You rolled your eyes at him,“I’m thinking maybe you should ask someone in the house next door.”

He was quick to shake his head at your words,“That is not the kind of comfort he seeks. I think he would much prefer…someone he knows well…someone he likes.”

You stayed quiet.

“You know he has the biggest soft spot for you,” Uthred then added, putting a smile on your face.

“Yes, I do.”

“And you for him?” he asked.

You sighed and smiled softly. “Maybe, yes,” you confessed.

Uhtred smiled. “Well then, he is by the river, just outside of the castle walls, should you wish to find him. Don’t tell him I sent you.”

You found Osferth an hour later by the river just as Uhtred said, sitting in the grass by himself, eyes fixated on the water in front of him. It was dark but still warm, the summer breeze a welcome solace after another hot summer’s day.

When you moved closer you could see he was clutching at his cross and his eyes were teary. Year heart sank.

You had come to care for the monk more than you’d ever expected over the course of the past months. The most quiet one out of Uhtred’s group with his sweet smile and innocent eyes, he had caught your attention quite early on and stole your heart just as easily. The two of you had built a friendship that involved a lot of playful flirting but neither of you ever crossed that line. You knew his group was only passing through and you had no intention of getting involved with someone who was likely going to leave soon. You had known enough heartbreak already in your short life.

But tonight you didn’t care about any of that. Looking at him now you just wanted to crawl into his lap and cuddle up to him, kiss away his sorrow and just hold him close, in your arms, where you could keep him safe.

You carefully stepped closer.

“May I join you?” you asked, making him look up. His lips instantly curled into a smile at the sight of you and he nodded.

You sat down next to him, close enough for your knee to bump into his. Osferth didn’t seem to mind, instead of pulling back he let his leg lean into yours.

“I didn’t see you at the tavern tonight,” you stated.

“No, I…I preferred solitude over ale tonight,” he explained, looking away from you and making you hesitate.

“Maybe I should leave you to it then.”

“No!” he was quick to grab your wrist before you had a chance to move,”No, please, don’t go.”

His eyes met yours again and you could see the tears he was trying to hide from you.

“Stay, please, my lady, stay with me,” he begged quietly, keeping his hand on your arm.

You placed your hand over his, giving him a soft smile,”I’ll stay, as long as you want, my sweet baby Monk.”

He smiled through his tears and leaned into you, letting his head fall down onto your shoulder. You didn’t hesitate to put your arms around his shoulders, pulling him into a hug. Osferth melted into you, arms wrapping around your waist, holding you tight while he buried his face into the crook of your neck. You could feel his heartbeat against yours and after a while you also felt his tears on your skin, making you hug him even tighter.

You sat like that for quite some time, just letting him cling to you while you caressed his hair and his back, trying to soothe him.

Uhtred hadn’t been exaggerating when he said Osferth was anxious. It took him a while to stop shaking in your arms and you gave him all the time he needed.

When he finally pulled back his eyes carefully locked with yours, his hands were firmly locked on your waist, not planning on letting go any time soon.

“We leave in the morning,” he then explained.

”Yeah, Uthred told me. You’re going with them? Into battle?”

He nodded.

“You don’t have to do that, you know? You have nothing to prove, Osferth.”

”No, I know but…I want to fight, I want to help, it’s just…,” he bit his lip and shook his head,”why am I so terrified?”

You cupped his face and pressed your forehead against his.“It’s okay to be afraid, it’s normal, they should all be afraid.”

“I just…want to be useful,” he said, letting his eyes rest on yours.

“And you are not useful if you don’t fight?”

“I don’t…”

“What about me then, huh? I don’t fight, am I not useful?”

He just stared at you before a soft smile played on his lips,”How can you think that you are not? My lady…your beauty makes my life worth living. Your smile…makes me feel like I have a reason to fight, that no matter how dark it gets there is so much light here and all I have to do is…look into your eyes to find it. You light up my whole world.”

Your heart was melting and for the first time in your life you were completely lost for words.

His hands were caressing your hips and he softly nuzzled your cheek. “I’m sorry,” he then whispered shyly,”That was too much, wasn’t it?”

You both leaned back to look at each other. There were no more tears in his eyes now but something else, something more pressing.

What to expect for this kinktober!

Hi loves! Thank you so much for participating in the brainstorming/prompt filling of the days for kinktober. What can we expect from the Brazil Tudum Event?

This weekend is a global Tudum event to be held in São Paulo, Brazil. This will be both streamed, and in person. After Polin fans disappointment at last year's Tudum event there is high hopes that there will be something substantial for this year.

Nicola Coughlan has teased a sneak peek, and she will be in Brazil in person, we have also seen both Luke Newton and Claudia Jessie seemingly promote the event as well. But what could we expect from Tudum in relation to Season 3? I have some ideas below:

Stills. I think there is a high probability that new Season 3 stills will be released. Along with stills of Polin, and Eloise, I think we can expect some stills of Francesca (and maybe John), Kate and Anthony, and the Bridgerton Family, we will probably also get stills of the Featheringtons, Lady Danbury, and the Queen, if not on the day then within a day or so of the event.

First Look. I have said before that I don't see a benefit for a first look scene of Season 3 to be released, at least not one of Penelope and Colin, as they are already known to the viewers and the only thing they could do is release a scene from later in the show, which will provide a spoiler. In the lead up to Season 1 several short snippets were released as an introduction, all from episode 1. For both Season 2, and Queen Charlotte, the first look scene was also taken from episode 1. In the case of all of these scenes it was to introduce the audience to one, or more, characters who the audience would be unfamiliar with, Season 3 does not have new characters as the leads, and as such I don't see the value in showing a first look scene, at least not from a promotional point of view. Any first look that was shown of Penelope and Colin would be entirely for fan service, it would serve no purpose in introducing a new character or dynamic to the show. In saying that, there is a possibility that a First Look scene will be shown at Tudum, and if they were to do that I would see more value in them introducing the new Francesca, however, that would (rightly) upset Polin fans.

Release Date. I think it is possible that we will get a release date at Tudum this weekend. I have thought for a while that Season 3 will be released in September, and if so then the timetable set for Season 2, and Queen Charlotte, suggests that the release date is announced approximately 3 months before. I think that if the release date is announced we are looking at a late September release date, or perhaps early but I doubt it will be early. With Virgin River due to be released on 7 September I imagine Bridgerton S3 could either be the week before (Labour Day Weekend in the US) or later. There are also two other series due to be released in September, so it is possible that their release date will impact Bridgerton S3. Until we know differently I am still predicting a September release date for Bridgerton Season 3.

Teaser Trailer. Will they show a teaser trailer at Tudum? This is a difficult one to predict. Both Season 1 and Season 2 had a teaser trailer released within about a month or so of the release of the season, however, Queen Charlotte's teaser trailer was released at the same time the date was officially announced, so I feel that if the release date is announced this weekend then I think that a teaser trailer could also be released in lieu of a first look.

It’s official: Bridgerton Season 3 is coming in 2024, but with another change this time, including the detail that the narrative isn’t following the book’s chronological order. The season will be split into two, as Netflix has been doing recently, with Part 1 releasing on May 16 and Part 2 on June 13.

In more ways than one, the decision adds a ton of frustrating barriers to a season that’s already highly questionable, considering we have no idea how the show will approach the book. We’ve decided early on that we’re compartmentalizing and looking at the two stories with different lenses, but a show like Bridgerton isn’t one that should be split. The strategy does nothing to heighten the buzz around The Crown or even something like Virgin River. It also didn’t do much for The Witcher either. Really, its only success has been Stranger Things, which feels like an exception rather than a new rule anyway.

Netflix Renewal Numbers

So, back in 2019 I got curious about Netflix Originals renewal rates and I made a chart for various genres of show and how many seasons they averaged at Netflix.

Dramas (which includes fantasy, mystery, thriller, etc.) in 2019 averaged 1.81 seasons per show, whereas in 2023 they only average 1.5 seasons. There are only 8 dramas (out of the 149 released by Netflix) that have ever had more than 3 seasons (currently released). Those are- House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black, 13 Reasons Why, Ozark, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Stranger Things, The Crown, and Virgin River. There are only 7 more shows classified as dramas that are currently renewed for a 4th season. Those are- The Umbrella Academy, The Witcher, Outer Banks, Sweet Magnolias, Blood & Water, Bridgerton, and Ginny & Georgia. Seeing as both Bridgerton and Ginny & Georgia were renewed for their 3rd and 4th seasons at the same time, that could still change if the 3rd seasons underperform (to be clear, Queen Charlotte is being counted as a standalone project, not a Bridgerton season).

Comedies (which include "dramadies") in 2019 averaged the exact same renewal rate as the dramas, with 1.81 seasons on average per show. In 2023, they average 1.8 seasons per show, so basically the same. There are only 9 comedies that have ever had more than 3 seasons. Those are- Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Grace and Frankie, The Ranch, Dear White People, Atypical, On My Block, Sex Education, Never Have I Ever, and The Upshaws. There is only 1 show currently renewed for a 4th season. That is- Emily in Paris.

Netflix has canceled or ended 91 dramas after 1 season (does include miniseries only pitched for 1 season). Netflix has canceled or ended 44 comedies after 1 season.

So... do with that information what you will. For me, personally, I'm just sick of Netflix starting stories it appears to have no intention of finishing unless they become massive worldwide hits.

[note that in 2019, Marvel shows were classified in their own genre and not included in the "Drama" numbers, but were since re-classified under "Drama" and included in the 2023 numbers].

[note that Fuller House, which had 5 seasons, was re-classified from "Comedy" to "Kids & Family" between 2019 & 2023 and is not reflected in the 2023 numbers].

[note the categories not classified as either a Drama or Comedy are- Kids & Family, Animation, Anime, Non-English Language Scripted, Docuseries, Reality, Variety, Continuations (shows picked up, but not originally produced by Netflix), Specials, Episodic, Regional Original Programming (there are only 3 shows in this category that apply to the numbers and none of them acquired a 4th season), and Co-Productions].

[note that shows like Riverdale, which were not produced or originally distributed by Netflix, but were slapped with the "Netflix Original" when distributed in some countries are not included in these numbers].

[note that these numbers only reflect English Language shows classified as "Drama" or "Comedy" produced from beginning to end by Netflix].

**Numbers are sourced from Wikipedia & also I did all the math myself, so while I believe they are pretty accurate (as of the posting date), there is room for error.

TLDR: Netflix cancels a lot of their original programming, and cancels dramas at a particularly high rate.

I’m not going to spoil anything in case you haven’t seen it yet but regarding this season’s Snatch Game—I am so tired of queens getting away with not having to do an actual impersonation at all with these cop-out choices where the person has no established personality so queens can do whatever they want 🙄 it’s so cheap // @sprinkledsalt

So right off the bat I'm not a fan of at least 4 of these, and I don't really know 3 of them. 5 of them I'm intrigued by and think are solid Snatch Game choices, and two of them I'm blah.

In order:

Not a fan: Georgina Ramsey, The Virgin Mary, Mona Lisa, Tan Mom

Don't know: Saucy Santana, Karen Huger, Bretman Rock

Intrigued by/good SG choices: Amanda Lepore, Rosie O'Donnell, Tim Gunn, Joan Rivers, Jan Crouch

Blah: Miley Cyrus, Trisha Paytas

I completely agree with you about historical characters/characters with no real established personality, because it really is a cop-out and also then you're hoping you have enough character and humor of your own to make it work (and often that's not the case). I hate it when these impersonations get rewarded, because it really does feel lazy and obnoxious to me. I also really dislike one-note/boring impersonations (which is why Tan Mom and Georgina Ramsey are up there - I'm iffy about the gender-flipping impersonation and find it often poorly executed)

The three I don't really know could potentially be funny but it's also really easy to not hit the right notes and not carry it off.

The 5 good choices are kind of what I like and want and expect with Snatch Game - individuals with either big personalities or identifiable characteristics which can be played straight because they're inherently funny or can be hammed up and exaggerated. Along with all of that, there's the additional risk that, because someone is so identifiable and well-known, that you need to pull it off or you will lose badly.

Blah - Miley's kind of settled down at this point and isn't as prominent or as seemingly provocative and ridiculous as she might have been, and it's also not really an impression I'd be wowed by regardless. And Trisha Paytas is too easy to just go "dumb blonde" and think you've done something and that's tired and boring and doesn't need to be done.

Sidenote: I'm tired of fucking youtubers and tiktokkers and influencers, both in general but also as impressions on Snatch Game. They're not interesting or particularly recognizable or funny and kind of like the historical or fictional characters, you can sort of do what you want and think you pulled something off with it.

It was upon the peak of Balach-Tur that Ohm emerged, and it was there that it first tasted the many foreign delicacies of the surface. Here, the soil tasted... sweeter. Baked, almost, with a sort of diurnal zest to it. With a... what was that? A hint of... sidereal essence? Oh, yes, the palate was simply exquisite. This was earth that would satisfy an average worm for life, Ohm thought. But Ohm was no normal worm. No, not at all. Ohm was a special worm, and it had a proportionately special job.

Between bites, Ohm looked around. It could see no signs of beings like its Mother, nor any signs of their handiwork. So, it did as it was told and began to crawl, and slither, and inch down the side of the mountain to the vast waters of the sea.

As it went, it sampled new delights: things that had been stuck between the earthen fibres of its Mother's mighty cloak and had since taken root in the virgin soil of Morne. Ohm ate the first ________, ______, and the _______. Even the precious ____-_______ succumbed to its maw; so beautiful was it that surely Men and Atai would have sung of it a thousand thousand songs, but, alas, all things eaten by Ohm are forgotten, and now only the empty space where it once was is evidence that it ever was at all.

But Ohm is - truthfully, tragically, thankfully - a messy eater. And so, as it ate it left behind crumbs of those things, which remained and persisted and took root. Forests of conifers rose from those cast off crumbs, as did the ferns that cowered in their shadows, and some even clung to Ohm's hide, sprouting from the scraps that stuck to it. It left behind grooves between mountain and sea, too, which would one day become rivers, and the beds it carved to rest in became lakes, until all of Morne was sampled and all of Morne was seen.

Once Ohm was certain it had surveyed all there was, it perched upon the peak of Balach-Tur once more and peered beyond. There it spotted a land across the water - Incarien - and began to crawl, and slither, and inch to its foreign shores.

Incarien tasted different, Ohm thought, but no less delicious. It had a delightfully full flavour to it: raw orogenic flesh with a smoky aftertaste, drizzled with seasonal showers and seasoned with sea salt. This, Ohm new immediately, was a dish made by a chef he'd not yet patroned. So, it did as it was told and began to move along the coast, eating all the while.

For many suns and many moons Ohm travelled and tasted the barren shores and saw nothing save those rough shapes formed by another's hand. However, behind it, always behind it, crumbs fell and took root and painted the bare canvas with life. Grasses bloomed, nurtured by the coastal rains, and pioneering trees grew tall and proud. When it had reached the western shore a baleful and cold wind blew, and it caused Ohm to shiver. As it did, many of those ancient conifers which had long since grown to be mighty things upon its hide fell, and dense forests of pines and cedars and redwoods rose from their broken lengths.

Finally, very finally, having nearly circumnavigated all of Incarien, Ohm saw the works of Others. Dense, steaming jungles, both to the south and east. A veritable buffet of bird songs and colourful flowers and tangled and dense underbrush plump with tiny creatures and raw verdancy. Ohm drooled. All needed to be tasted. All needed to be forgotten.

(Omeara(?) uses Shape Climate to make a temperate coastal region around Morne and Incarien, uses Shape Climate again to sweep cold down from the north and create boreal-like environs, and uses Shape Land to make coniferous forests around Morne and Incarien's coasts, with a notable density on the western coast of Incarien where the water currents are warm and rainfall is most plentiful. 7 - 3 - 2 - 2 = 0 power remaining.)
