Hi, I'm just curious about what you meant by Barry being suicidal all through season 3? Because I never got that vibe at all, and I'd like to see where you're coming from. I feel like I'm missing something.

yeah for sure! thanks to @shrinkthisviolet and @angst-is-love-angst-is-life for helping me come up with some of these because my brain refuses to brain tonight lol

specifically, he actively plans to die at least once (possibly twice?); just after the Savitar reveal he jumps to killing himself as the solution SO fast it's alarming, I genuinely don't think he'd have done so in earlier seasons especially, he might have come to that conclusion eventually but not immediately

future Barry while not being exactly the same as present Barry clearly hasn't been taking care of himself - is he actively suicidal? debatable but probably not, he certainly is passively suicidal though wasting away in the Time Vault

Savitar, again not quite exactly the same as present Barry but Barry nonetheless, almost kills Barry more than once "I want so badly to kill you" really shows the self-loathing Savitar has and Barry is capable of

baiting Caitlin to kill him - admittedly a bit of a grey area but that icicle was WAY too close for comfort and Barry knew there was a chance that she would actually kill him

amnesiac Barry is all but the exact opposite of season 3 Barry, full of life, energy, and most importantly hope, I honestly think this Barry is one of the most compelling arguments for normal season 3 Barry being severely depressed to the point of passive suicidal ideation because everyone acknowledges that amnesiac Barry is better off at least mentally

in Duet, Barry actively steps in the middle of a gun fight, smiles as he's dying, and seems lowkey disappointed or at least a bit put out when he wakes up in the real world alive

EDIT bc how did I forget: he walks into the Speed Force in the finale with a smile on his face fully prepared to never come back from it, he's not only accepted his fate but he's relieved

there's definitely more and I fully intend to make a list during a full watch-through when I have the time

i have a question and it's very random, i hope it's okay, but would you have any hcs for what Eobard did during those 15 years of being stuck in the past and waiting for Barry to become Flash, like how he adapted to being Harrison Wells, and stalking Barry, and Star Labs, or anything you'd have in mind for that?

oh this is absolutely okay I love to speculate on what characters did off-screen!

I definitely think that Eobard kept tabs on Barry, albeit he had to go a different route than his usual methods, no speedster shenaniganary, no being the thing that goes bump in the night at least not that Eobard - he most definitely stalked Barry to an extent even at the risk of getting caught (I have a headcanon that he used his influence to his advantage and visited Barry's school campus several times under the guise of meeting potential employees or giving talks or something specifically so that he could creepily watch Barry pretty much all day)

that said, there was a lot of work he needed to do to get S.T.A.R. Labs and Harrison Wells to the level of scientific achievement needed to build the particle accelerator in the first place - I don't think it was too difficult for him being a genius from the literal future but I almost think that would be worse because he'd be bored and bored Eobard sounds dangerous (I mean he definitely was bored, the man wrote a whole autobiography as Harrison Wells)

then again, bored Eobard is probably why he even got so close to Cisco, Caitlin, and Hartley; granted if he didn't think it was necessary he probably wouldn't have bothered, but I also doubt it was in his initial plans

this is super random and i know you’re more of a Tom Eobard but have you seen the Doom World episode in Legends of Tomorrow? i'm obsessed with it and the whole concept and i always wondered what it would have been like with Barry in there. might you have any thoughts on Eobard rewriting a reality where Barry's not dead, he's his... however you want to picture that. or if you don't, it's okay :)

I actually haven't seen that episode (I've missed out on a lot of Legends episodes lol) but I'm now obsessed with this concept and if Eobard hasn't already tried to make Barry his (lover, slave, pet, child like he threatened that one time, you name it) in at least one timeline I'll eat my hat

Eobard would have to start very early, that much I'm sure of, molding Barry's life circumstances to lead him directly to Eobard, breaking him down mentally and emotionally so he's more amenable, getting rid of the positive influences in Barry's life and ensuring he's isolated - then it's just a matter of what does Eobard want from Barry; does he want to own him like a trophy or to form some sort of twisted relationship with him? I think it depends on the day, personally, but I'm inclined to think it leans more towards the latter as technically Barry wouldn't need to be alive to be Eo's trophy (although that is another interesting concept to explore later)

either way, Eobard would ease in to the relationship initially, offering Barry friendship, a confidante, maybe a mentor like with Dr. Wells (this concept would work very well with EoWells and that I definitely would like to write sometime lol) and slowly over time Eo would gain more and more control over Barry - not by force, though, I feel like he'd prefer it if Barry granted him the control himself, or at least most of it; sure he likes a good fight but this is his Barry, not the usual Barry after all - and without a support group, I think Barry would give him that control willingly if he asked; after all he trusts Eobard

yesssssss of course!!!! I mostly haven't written much with the broken chains characters cause I haven't posted many of them yet and Kamau and Ember canonically don't even meet until way way way way late in the story lol <3333 but I have no qualms about writing for them for these at all!

Akmashi's nightlife was always exciting, regardless of your status or job. Ember was no exception; xe was very familiar with the nightlife though usually xe was in a less safe location, waiting for his latest client to come and pay for his services, yet tonight she found herself in a much better position.

Ember wore some of the nicest clothes they could afford as they nervously waited yards away from the entrance to one of Akmashi's most luxurious clubs. On any other night, he would be barred from entering, maybe attacked for even making an attempt, but Markas was a high enough status that they were hopeful his presence alone would be enough to keep them safe. Whenever Markas arrived, that is.

Ember tapped their foot impatiently and chewed xir lower lip. It wasn't like Markas to be late. A handful of drunk revelers passing shouted slurs at them as they passed but Ember did his best to ignore it.

Ember jumped at the feel of a hand on her lower back, startling her out of her thoughts, but it was only Markas, well-dressed in a violet tangzhuang and looking down at Ember with a faint smile.

"Sorry. I got caught up at the palace. Do you still want to go inside or would you rather go home?" Markas asked, his voice a low rumble.

Ember's smile lit up his face, the fear melting away. "After all this waiting, there's no fucking way we're not going in now."

Markas nodded, wrapping an arm around Ember's waist and leading them to the entrance. The bouncer gave them a dirty look but wisely held his tongue and only took a few moments before begrudgingly stepping aside to let them through.

Once inside, Markas pulled Ember closer protectively, almost daring anyone to say or do something as they wound their way through the crowd to the bar to grab a bottle of expensive maggake before finding a quiet corner booth. Ember seated themself in Markas's lap instead of the seat and took a swig directly from the bottle with a pleased sound. Markas watched his partner with amusement before pulling them closer and pressing a gentle kiss against their forehead.

"It's good to have you here with me," he murmured.

Ember smiled softly, leaning into Markas's embrace, already feeling herself relax. "It's good to be here with you."

Eobard rapidly oscillates between loving Barry and hating him and he genuinely never knows himself how he'll feel about Barry in the moment when they see each other again

on a related note, Eobard does his best plotting against Barry when he feels enamored with him - the hatred blinds him too much to plan well

the easiest way to get Eobard to completely shut down and stop for any length of time would be for Barry to return his affections, he wouldn't know what to do at that point

Eobard all but had a shrine to Barry as a child and teenager, he got rid of most of it after becoming disillusioned (he regrets getting rid of any of it)

Eobard and Barry did have a brief fling in the future before Eobard went completely off the rails and started screwing with the timeline - Eobard has never been able to recreate that future since

Eobard absolutely planned to seduce Barry as Harrison Wells knowing how much Barry admired him

Eobard has been multiple one-night-stands in multiple timelines for Barry without Barry realizing it

Hartley & Cisco role reversal AU

ooooooooooh I LOVE this concept

so Cisco finds out about the flaw in the accelerator by accident, he doesn't confront EoWells in any accusatory way but EoWells fires him and threatens him to keep him silent anyway (Hartley either still finds out and chooses to stay silent because he trusts EoWells/is in love with him or he just doesn't come across the flaw)

Cisco is understandably pissed but EoWells threats are super effective so he stays silent until the explosion (his firing absolutely puts even more strain his family relationships also so poor Cisco is just a mess)

Hartley is more than willing and ready to accept any explanation for why Cisco was fired and feels fully justified in his initial animosity(jealousy)

Caitlin's a bit disappointed because she was starting to like Cisco and she thought he was fun to have around

the explosion happens, Ronnie sacrifices himself, and Hartley wasn't exactly friends with Ronnie but he still feels guilty for trapping him in there even if he did ask him to (doubly so if he did catch the flaw and didn't say anything)

flipping their roles a bit further, Hartley's powers don't activate right away but the vicious tinnitus does so he's down for a hot minute while they try to resolve that and there's definitely some tension because while Hartley is pissed at himself for not saying anything he's even more pissed at EoWells for letting it happen and causing him to be in severe, disabling chronic pain (if they were in a relationship this probably breaks them up)

Cisco's powers do activate right away inducing migraines accompanied by very confusing visions that he struggles to make sense of, including some stuff about Ronnie who he hears along the grapevine has died in the explosion

Caitlin is frosty (lol) and Hartley doesn't help matters being probably the worst patient and also not having great bedside manner for their resident coma patient but at least Barry's not conscious to deal with his attitude, things at S.T.A.R. are TENSE (if Hartley and EoWells were dating, Caitlin definitely picks up on that fact now with the way they're acting towards each other, or rather how Hartley is acting towards EoWells)

Barry wakes up, Barry hates Hartley, Hartley hates Barry but he's the guy who makes the tech so they at least have a working relationship (is this going to turn ScarletPiper? we shall see)

Cisco, bitter about how he was terminated and how that further damaged his familial relationships takes a mental health nose dive and designs prototype goggles to go Reverb on S.T.A.R. Labs - he's not really a villain though, he mainly wants to do some property damage and knock EoWells around a bit (and Hartley if he can manage it, just for funsies) before forcing EoWells to tell the truth, his goal is not to kill Barry

Cisco was friends with Caitlin and Ronnie before so he tells Caitlin what he knows about Ronnie after he's captured, Hartley helps her confirm that he's telling the truth, EoWells confirms that he was warned about the Particle Accelerator and this pisses everyone off

"You lose a bet?" Jessie asked the moment Ricki walked in the door.

Tiff looked up from her laptop to see what Jessie was talking about. Ricki was still in the doorway, tugging off her leather jacket and sporting a curly mullet that she definitely hadn't had the day before.

"Oh my god...please tell me you got all your hair chopped off in a freak accident or something- you didn't choose that, right?" She blurted and Ricki rolled her eyes.

"Ha ha, you guys are hilarious," she said setting her coat aside and crossing the room to peer over Dami's shoulder to see what she was drawing in her sketchbook.

"Well, I approve." Dami commented, quickly closing their notebook so Ricki couldn't see.

"Aw, thanks Dam-" Ricki started but Dami continued.

"I'm certain this new look will be a wonderful deterrent for would-be suitors. Koriand'r must like it as well."

Jessie and Tiff burst into laughter and Ricki sighed, crossing her arms.

"Are you done?" She asked and Jessie just shook her head.

"No, who the fuck told you to get a mullet, big bird? I wanna thank them, I haven't laughed this hard in years!" She cackled, dodging the pillow Ricki threw.

"Okay, okay, I get it. You think the mullet was a mistake. Knock it off, already," Ricki said with a frown.

"First Discowing now this, are you trying to get on Gotham's worst dressed list?" Tiff teased.

"That suit is incredible, you just don't appreciate good retro fashion." Ricki defended.

"At least tell me you didn't pay for someone to do that to you." Jessie said, finally recovering from her laughter.

"When have I ever paid for someone to cut my hair?" Ricki replied.

Tiff hummed. "Are you going through a breakup? An early mid-life crisis? Do we need to stage an intervention?" She asked and Ricki rolled her eyes, sitting on the couch.

"I just wanted a change, okay?"

"Are you changing personas too? I have some name suggestions if you are." Jessie said with a smirk. "Redneck Robin, Mullet Master, The Long-Lost Kryptonian Cousin of Billy-Ray Cyrus-"

The sound of metal hitting skull rang through Jessie's ears alongside the Joker's maniacal laughter as she swung again and again. She lost vision suddenly in her right eye and heard a sickening squelch, feeling something wet and sticky joining the hot rivers of blood dripping down her face. Had her eye popped out of its socket? She saw something gray and gelatinous drip onto the ground beneath her from her skull and immediately felt sick. She just wanted this to end, wanted this torture to finally be over, she didn't care how. But the blows kept coming.

Eventually, all fell silent and cold, so cold. Jessie wanted to roll over, to wrap herself in her cape for warmth but she couldn't move, couldn't even force herself to breathe. She wondered if the traumatic brain injury, the cold, or the loss of oxygen would kill her first. Or was she already dead? No, she was in too much pain for that, and she could hear...something in the distance. Footsteps maybe? Whatever was left of her brain was trying desperately to form thoughts, allow her to recognize anything at all.

"Robin!" Batwoman. Brie.

Jessie could still recognize the voice of her mentor but she couldn't respond. She felt movement and then she was lying on her back though she could hardly see through the eye that was left, her vision fading far too fast.

"Robin, can you hear me?" Brie would have sounded calm to anyone else but Jessie could still hear the underlying panic as the woman's fingers pressed to the side of her neck, searching for a pulse. Jessie wondered dimly if she'd find one.

"This is going to hurt, okay? I'm sorry."

Brie laid her flat on the ground and Jessie wanted to protest at the new dull pain as she started chest compressions, cracking her ribs in the process. Didn't Brie see that it was too late? Even if her heart started again what good would that do? Half her brain was probably on the ground. She wanted to tell Brie to stop, to let her go, but she couldn't find the strength.

"Come back to me, Jessica. Come back. Keep fighting."

The words were spoken with a ferocity that could only come from a desperate woman and Jessie felt Brie tilt her head back as gently as she could and force air into her lungs. God, why didn't she just stop? Why was she trying so hard?

The next thing Jessie was aware of was a breathing tube forced down her throat and a surgeon's hands putting pressure on her head. No. No just let me go, Jessie thought, I'm already dead, I was gone, I could find peace. But the team couldn't hear her desperate pleas and she felt a tear slip out of her swollen eye.

"Suction."

No. No more suction, no more sutures, no more pain please, god-

"This eye is ruptured and the optic nerve is severed. There's no saving it. Scalpel."

No more. Please, no more.

But there was no respite, no escape and Jessie felt the surgeon's tools tearing apart her eye socket and face. She wanted to scream, to tell them to stop, to tell them they were hurting her, but she couldn't even move. She was pretty sure she had to be brain dead by now but the damn machines were keeping her body alive, keeping her tied here in agony.

She woke once more to Ricki and Brie arguing loudly in a hospital room. She could hear the beeping of the machines forcing her to stay alive.

"This isn't fair to her, Brie! She's suffering! You can't force her to live like this because of your fucking mistake!"

Ricki's words were harsh and biting, meant to hurt.

"I'm not forcing-"

"What the hell do you think is going to happen if you take her off of those machines? She's not going to live, she's not going to go back to being Robin, she's catatonic at fucking best! Even if she somehow manages to live without something forcing air into her lungs the surgeons said she's missing part of her damn brain and the rest is so bruised and swollen she's probably fucking brain dead! She's...she's not coming back from this, Brie."

The silence that followed was heavy, oppressive.

"She was my daughter." Brie said brokenly and Jessie felt her heart break for the woman she'd come to see as a mother.

"You have to let her go." Ricki sounded as close to crying as Jessie had ever heard her.

Jessie felt Brie's hand on her forehead, heard the choked sob as she leaned down to whisper something in Jessie's ear. She wanted to hear what it was that Brie said but she couldn't move, couldn't respond and she knew this was it. This was the end.

The machines stopped beeping and Jessie felt her body relax as if relieved of a burden it had been carrying for too long. She wanted to thank Brie for letting her go, for finally understanding that she wasn't coming back from this but the words never left her lips. She was gone.
