Parece el argumento de una historia terrorífica y, sin embargo, es el suceso que desencadena una de las películas más aclamadas sobre la amistad infantil, el crecimiento e incluso la lucha por despegarse del rol social que los habitantes del pueblo creen que encarnan porque provienen de hogares conflictivos. Ambientado en 1959 y basado en un relato de Stephen King, el filme sigue la travesía de Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Chris Chambers (River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) y Vern Tessio (Jerry O´Connell). No será un viaje fácil: además de los peligros naturales (¡sanguijuelas!), algún tren que se les aparece de manera sorpresiva, las conversaciones sobre trivialidades o acerca de las encrucijadas de sus vidas, más algún cuento fantástico en el medio, otro grupo menos feliz y más violento se les cruza con la misma idea. 

Rob Reiner dirige esta obra maestra a la cual se suma Kiefer Sutherland como Ace Merrill, amo y señor de esa pandilla, John Cusack como Denny, el fallecido hermano de Gordie y Richard Dreyfuss en el rol del narrador de la historia, que no es otro que el adulto Gordie. En su boca sale una de las frases más icónicas de la película: “Nunca se hacen amigos como a lo doce años. ¿Acaso alguien lo tiene?”
