wolfwood, on the phone: you found broom-head where?!
meryl: Like I said, the luggage compartment of a bus heading to North Dakota
vash, shoving his face next to meryl’s so he can shout into the phone: I was gonna see the world’s largest buffalo!
meryl: get off me, dimwit!
*meryl pushes vash away he trips backwards and hits a shelf, several books falling and hitting his head as he slides to the floor*
vash: am I hitting the books or are the books hitting me??
meryl, turning around and ignoring him: he’s jet-lagged out of his mind but he’s hopped up on caffeine or something and won’t take a nap
wolfwood: well, if you’re making him sleep in the motel tub again . . .
millie, who had been passing by with a cup of tea and paused to listen: oh no! we don’t do that anymore, his snores echo in there! Hi, mr. priest!
wolfwood: hey, big girl. What’s he been drinking to get himself so hyper? You know his weird system only gets sleepy when you give him coffee
meryl: there were a lot of cans in that luggage compartment and I did not and do not want to know what they were. Do you have any idea how to get him to sleep that isn’t hitting him on the back of the head with a laptop?
wolfwood: y’see spiky doesn’t like to nap when he’s jet lagged, it--
vash: IT GIVES ME THE HEEBIE-JEEBIES
meryl: stop using your freakishly sharp hearing to listen to our conversation!
millie: mr. vash, be careful! if you jump around like that you’ll spill your tea!
wolfwood: yeah like he said, gives him the heebie-jeebies.
meryl, pinching the bridge of her nose and letting out a long frustrated sigh: what, pray tell, are the ‘heebie-jeebies’?
wolfwood: he has like these weird dreams about spiders an’ stuff crawling on ‘im and he can’t move. Or lizards. I can’t remember.
vash: they take turns! sometimes it’s rats! once it was butterflies drinking my blood!
millie: aw, no wonder you don’t wanna sleep
vash: thank you millie you are the only valid person
meryl: i have very kindly been restraining myself from wringing your neck so shut up!
wolfwood: er. there is a thing that might work.
meryl: please tell me. I’m beginning to remember you get the reward money even if you bring him in dead.
wolfwood: okay, but if you laugh at what I’m about to say you’re a bad person
meryl: I will take that risk. hit me.
wolfwood, sighing: hold his hand while he falls asleep
meryl:
wolfwood: you’re a bad person.
meryl: I didn’t say anything!
wolfwood: I can hear you thinking! Look, hold his hand and after he’s asleep stay in the room. if he starts making noises in his sleep just kinda quietly say his name until he stops.
vash: I refuse to hold hands! I’m saving myself for marriage! that was non-consensual hand-holding!
meryl: okay, two questions. One, how do you know this? Two, does it really work?
wolfwood: it works on the kids back home, I was on the verge of beating his spiky head in, I gave it a shot. Not a hundred percent success rate but fairly high.
meryl: Urgh. I guess it’s easier than getting rid of a body.
wolfwood: that’s the spirit. welp, since this isn’t my problem I’ll sign off. have fun and God bless!
meryl: drop dead!
*meryl hangs up and whips around. vash in the act of trying to climb a shelf freezes in place*
meryl: millie
vash: no. don’t.
meryl: grab him
millie: yes, ma’am!
vash, kicking and flailing in millie’s grip: noooo! you’re so mean! you’re still the only valid person but you’re so mean!

ok, i cant resist the urge to make a post about it after all, especially since it's related to a post i made prior
one of my favorite moments in trimax is By Far this part in chapter 35
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two pages from Trigun. The first starts with Wolfwood thinking, "Now that I think 'bout it, it may be one of the major differences between our species." That deep rooted dear I felt on the ship…" He thinks of Vash crying blood and, swearing, wonders, "Is he the one who can save humankind? That monster?" Wolfwood is briefly shown in resolution before someone calls, "Hey, Wolfwood!" and he looks up with surprise.
Vash sits with a smile at the edge of a rooftop, backed by the Fifth Moon and its prominent crater. Vash asks with a smile, "Just coming back now? You're a bit of a night owl, huh?" Wolfwood looks taken aback and wary. End ID]
Right Here. Vash is just sitting there, smiling like normal, but he's got the backdrop of the damage he caused on the moon set Perfectly behind him. it's a glaring reminder to Wolfwood of who exactly he's dealing with here, and that TERRIFIES him.
& the fact that Wolfwood still remembers that moment of crying blood as a moment of true fear. because for all the cheer Vash shows in the average moment, Wolfwood just recently saw him nearly lose control Again (at the Dragon's Nest). the second time he witnessed it, & the third time he would know about.
Vash is a walking atomic bomb with multiple charges. even with how cheerful & kind he is, he's shown Multiple Times that he does not have full control. he is decidedly something different, something Hazardous to humans, and Wolfwood knows this very very painfully.
for all that Wolfwood loves Vash, he is also terrified of him. and at this point in the story, that terror is potent enough to nearly eclipse his affection for Vash.
leading to some of the next most iconic pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: The next page starts with Wolfwood standing behind the sitting Vash, his expression hard and the moon bright behind him. Vash seems sad and has one eye open. A close-up focuses on Wolfwood looking down.
Wolfwood thinks, "So easy to pull the trigger. So easy to remove half the problem." Another close-up with bright lighting obscures his face but for one eye. Then Vash turns around curiously and asks, "What's up?" Wolfwood sits behind him and says "Nothin'. Come on. Let's go." Vash seems surprised as Wolfwood scolds, "Don't get yerself tangled up in every little skirmish ya see. It'll be pointless if ya get yerself killed before ya meet him." End ID]
the manga frames it like Vash doesn't know Wolfwood was pointing the gun at him, but I think he did know. he's freakishly perceptive over and over again throughout the story. he HAS to be in order to survive like he has. he'd hear the movement of the gun & sense Wolfwood behind him...
he'd know. i really think he knew.
but he doesn't do anything about it. there is zero fear in his face. he turns to look at Wolfwood curiously, a bit confused, but not afraid. he never once thought that Wolfwood would shoot him. there's full faith and trust there in that moment.
Wolfwood pretends that nothing happened, & Vash lets him. they both move on, not talking about it, because they never talk about Anything of substance like this (not until much, Much later).
overall, it's just such a great example of their relationship's development. Wolfwood's fear & Vash's trust that he won't act on it... it's just. Man.
(EDIT: people have made some good points about how Vash's expression when Wolfwood points the gun at him shows that he probably did know and YEAH that's a good point! & probably why I was so certain he knew lol, I just hadn't realized it myself)

CW: Trauma and Suicidal Ideation
Once we reach volume 6 of Trigun Maximum, I think it's fair to say that no one in our party of protagonists understands Vash on an emotional level more than Meryl. After all, she's the one who got a full dose of Vash's emotions back in the Dragon's Nest.
Tumblr media
It seems like a lot of what we see of Meryl in Volume 6 is her trying to process all of that, which honestly would be rough for anyone. We've seen how Vash himself is processing it and that can easily be summed up as "not well." It's not exactly a surprise that she's showing signs of depression and suffering from night terrors all throughout the first chapter. But in spite of the fact that Vash (likely inadvertently) traumatized her with both his history and the reveal of what he is, she remains so concerned about him.
The first action we see her take after coming across his memories isn't to try and flee or defend herself from him, but to shoot at Legato. There are five superhuman beings stuck in a deadlock, and then there's her, a mere normal human, and she's the one who breaks that deadlock. She sees what she needs to do and, despite the tears in her eyes, she does it without hesitation to defend herself and her friends.
Tumblr media
She may be small, but her power is adequate.
And when everything dies down, she's the first to verbally check on Vash.
Tumblr media
This question is kind of loaded, though. On the surface, she's asking if he's ok and back in control, but she could also be asking a myriad of things about what the hell even happened just now, or what happened in July, or how everything she saw about his arm in his memories has affected his wellbeing and how he's coping.
Vash's response is meant to reassure her, but it's so vague it does little to dispel anything but the fear of immediate danger (be it to himself or to others around him). It's no wonder Meryl is still haunted by so many thoughts and feelings after all this; they really needed to sit down and have a long talk about what happened both in the Dragon's Nest and in what she saw in his memories. But they don't. And so Meryl is left floundering.
It's something that's gonna bite them both in the ass sooner rather than later. Much, much sooner.
But again, as we move into the next chapter ("The Gunslinger"), Meryl's primary concern still isn't about Vash's destructive capability. It's about whether or not he'll be able to survive his next gunfight. 'Cause there's always a next gunfight for Vash.
Tumblr media
Sorry, I lied. That's not the face of someone who's afraid their friend won't be able to pull a trigger to save their own life in the next gunfight (which is playing out in the now right in front of her for this scene). That's the face of someone who is deeply concerned for her friend whom she know is absolutely drowning in the sorrow of his past actions, of having pulled a much bigger trigger than the one of the gun now in his hand (or even of the Punisher that Vash has seen fit to commandeer for this mission), and who has every reason not only to go to great lengths to never repeat the mistake of July again, but enough regret to possibly let even the lowest of lowlife scum put a bullet in his own head to keep that from happening.
She thinks of his angel arm, but her immediate thought isn't, "Oh, no! What if he goes off again?" Her thought is, "Oh, god. He's carrying waaaaay too much emotionally, it's making him suicidal, and he is going to die here."
So, then, what's up with this reaction a few chapters later when Vash accidentally releases just a tiny bit of his power to stop a bullet?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My thought is this is the conversation Vash and Meryl didn't have coming back to bite them both in the ass.
Meryl hasn't had a lot of time to process these memories, and as best we can tell, she hasn't talked about them to anyone. Wolfwood kind of gives her an opportunity, but instead the two of them get caught up in denying they know as much as they know. If they'd instead had a conversation about Vash, it might have helped Meryl find a place for some of this.
But the person she really needed to have that conversation with is Vash.
While Meryl's flashback is of the events of the Dragon's Nest, from what we saw at the end of the Dragon's Nest arc and in the Gunslinger chapter, Meryl isn't that afraid of Vash and his power. The one who truly fears Vash's power is Vash himself.
Despite Vash having only recently regained his memories of July, he's still intimately aware that he has immense raw destructive power. But it's been over two years since he blew a hole in the moon, and even before that he had literal decades to build up the determination that (usually) keeps him moving forward when the horrors are too great. Meryl has had... what, a week? A month? A few days? Not nearly enough time.
If she and Vash had spent some time talking over what they both learned about him in the Dragon's Nest, it might at least help Meryl recognize what parts of it are her and what parts of it are him. Even if it didn't, it might have helped Vash contextualize her panic in this scene and find a better way to respond, or helped her to dig up the words for it before the boys ran off, since she would have spoken them them already in a more controlled setting.
But that didn't happen. So instead, we get to see all of Vash's fear and panic over what might happen if he loses control manifest in Meryl. And it manifests as screaming, trembling, and tears seemingly without end.
Thank God for Milly, or it might have resulted in her feeling the same kind of loneliness and isolation Vash feels, as well.

019. Suffocate
♡ Pairing - Vash x Reader
♡ Word count - 0.8k
♡ Warnings - none
Part of the 150 Bullets drabble series on AO3
Tumblr media
You’re never sure how it starts, but it ends the same each time.
Red blaring lights. A siren screeching overhead. People are frantic. Your mother is staring at the screen.
You’re up on the catwalk above the tank. It’s a walk you’ve done a million times. All you have to do is push the button, enter in the codes. But this time is different. The ground shakes, the building is sliced into ribbons around you. Your mother is half on the screen. The other half has been thrown across the room.
And then there’s the water.
Fluid. Whatever they want to call it. It’s not water, but what else could it be? You can’t remember the name. You just know the feel of it on your skin as you fall off the walkway and crash into it, the brush against the smooth Plant as it unfolds, the tendrils that extend and wrap around you and pull.
It pulls you in, and you thrash, you cry out, you beg and scream and scream. Fluid enters your lungs. The Plant’s bulbous blue eyes glow in the dim, red light filtering through its tank, its mouth moving. You can see teeth in there, sharp and ready and –
“______...!” It says. How does it know your name? “______! Mayfly!”
You kick and scream. Try to draw in breath. You’re suffocating. You can’t breathe!
Suddenly, there’s a shift in your vision. The Plant’s features meld into a man’s – blonde hair, eyes just as blue – and his moving mouth. His teeth are duller, his skin tan and freckled and not pale ice. Your mouth gapes and moves, but all you can get out is a ragged yelp as the man shakes you again.
“Mayfly, it’s okay, you’re dreaming,” he says. And slowly, the world starts to come back to you. The tank fades to the dark interior of the ship ruins you’d found to camp in. The only light is from the flashlight to the side, turned on in haste and thrown to the side. Your friend cups your face in his hands, desperately looking at you for something. What’s his name, what’s his name -?
Vash. It’s Vash. You croak his name, and he lets out a relieved sigh. “Yeah, see, it’s okay.” He pulls you close and holds you tight. “It’s okay. It was just a dream.”
You can still feel the ooze of the tank on your skin. It melts into sweat. The world tilts, trying to right itself after the vividness and terror. Your temples pulse with your heartbeat; you’ve got a headache. The fabric of Vash’s shirt drags on your fingertips as you hold on tightly. Minutes pass like this. Your quick breathing and barely-held-back sobs soon subside.
“’M sorry,” you mutter into his shirt. You aren’t, not really, but know it’s the right thing to say. There’s no telling what time of night it is without pulling out a watch. You feel him shake his head, and his skin is warm on your neck.
“Don’t apologize, it’s not something you can help.” He rubs a hand up and down your back. “Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a nightmare wake me up.”
All you can do is sit there and let him soothe you. Your heart takes minutes more to stop beating so frantically. Every time you close your eyes, you see that Plant’s face, how it – she – looked so sickly, so desperate for…what? You shake your head and burrow into Vash’s shoulder. “’M sorry,” you say again, and you aren’t sure who it’s for.
Vash shushes you and pulls you closer. “Do you need to walk it off?” He asks. “That helps me sometimes.”
You tense. “No, I – “ The thought of moving around in an unfamiliar place in the dark pricks a primal part of your mind. You huddle closer to him. “Can I just…can you…?”
Without letting you go, he lays back, his sleeping bag brushing yours in the sand. You lay on his chest and wrap your arms around him the best you can. The off rhythm beat of his heart underneath lulls you gently. “That better?” he whispers.
You only nod.
Vash shifts a bit to get more comfortable. He never stops rubbing your back. You don’t think you can get back to sleep so easily, yet you are surprised to feel your eyes drooping closed. “Thank you,” you whisper. Vash hums. The last thing you feel is his lips pressing to the top of your head, and you’re out like a light again.

Cut for content: canon-typical violence with some whump for spice
The butt of a Grader is as effective a bludgeoning tool as anything else. Metal strikes skull and the crippled slaver is out like a light, spittle-slick threats silenced all at once in a stinking slump.
Nicholas wanted to kill them to a man. He could have. It would have been simple with them all clustered around their caravan and campfires, but they'd chosen their staging ground for its cover, and crossfire was too great a risk to the young lives trammeled like animals.
It was never going to be anything but messy. Human traffickers never go down easy, and they are always loaded for bear.
The dust has settled and despite traded bullets and close-quarters melee during a baited chase, nobody died. As the gunpowder smell wafts clear on the cold night air, Wolfwood finds he still wants to end the captors-turned-captives, and he cannot blame his conditioning for that.
Dangerous thinking. If it starts there, where does it stop? Will an effort to protect just make things worse, more desperate?
Vash is right, much Nicholas he hates to admit it, as much as that hate feels like a crown of thorns around the pit where his heart should be. Not about the pacifism, there was no peaceful resolution to be had.
But it is better this way. Better to have aimed for the knees and the crotches. Better to leave them with a story to tell in hushed whispers, paranoid looking over their shoulders.
He has to chew on it. On the truth. On something that resonates even as he binds limp hands into a secure hogtie. The children these slavers kidnapped didn't need to see death tonight. Not so close, and not on their behalf. They are alive, they will recover, returned to their families.
"Come get the head scumbag," he calls out to the others--he can't trust himself with keeping them alive long enough to collect the town's gratitude.
Just as he stands with a mind to help patrol and guard, he hears a crack!
Distant. Not distant.
Thundering. His ears ring, and he doesn't feel it, not at first, the overrun of adrenaline in his system a potent analgesic. Watery-limbed and sluggish, he turns to see.
See her. A little girl, she can't be ten, school clothes dirty and tattered, with a pistol in her shaking hands. It's too big for her, snub and blunt and brutal and still smoking. She had to pull the trigger with both index fingers, and the pale terror on her face pulls her expression into a rictus, a grimace, like a teary skull in the moonlight.
Nicholas drops to a knee with both palms up.
"Easy, easy," he wants to say. Tries to. But he can't. It comes out as a gurgle he can taste as gravity doubles in strength, his heartbeat speeding to cope with the crimson soaking his shirt. Lips. Chin.
It's alright, he wants to say, I understand, sometimes it's hard to tell who's here to help. He wants to. God, he wants to soothe the furious horror there, allay the panic. Fleeting thought - did I look like that? - flickers as he strains, reaching past the hole in his chest for his ampoules, the ammunition for himself.
She pulls the trigger again, reacting to a perceived threat.
Click. Click.
No bullets, couldn't cock the hammer. Nicholas falls. So does the gun. The little girl flees into the desert, and as he races against blood loss and biting cold, struggling to crack open the glass, all he can think as blackness swarms is not now, not yet, can't make her a killer.

It wasn’t even a single minute before you received another text from an unknown number…
dont ignore me
What it said. Nothing more, nothing less. You didn’t have to even guess who the text came from, afterall, he’s been terrorizing you ever since you decided to break up with Nicholas.
You thought he took the news well but you couldn’t have been more wrong that day.
He wouldn’t leave you alone for a second. At first, he spoke to you like a usual friend or a regular day. But then came him to ask you to dinner that would’ve landed on your third anniversary.
You thought it was a misunderstanding but he continued to press and press until you gave in.
You had hoped to use that opportunity to make it clear that you wouldn’t tolerate any more attempts like this, but it fell on death’s ears as he clearly ignored your words and talked and talked. Ordering your favorite meal and drink, going as far as to pay and drop you off home.
Nicholas doesn’t even acknowledge your attempts to talk, he very much ignores you, over and over again.
Frustrating would be an understatement.
The next came when Meryl decided to throw a party to celebrate New Years. Since Nicholas wasn’t listening to you, ignoring him was your next choice. But that too became difficult when he was watching you and following you all the damn time.
You wanted to catch up with Vash and his brother, Nicholas stood by you the entire time, contributing nothing to the conversations.
You wanted a cigarette from Roberto? You couldn’t, it was stolen by him… More like he took it and threw it right out in front of you with a smile. Not a smirk. A smile.
You were suspicious when he randomly came up to you with a hug, he refused to let go and kept on until you threatened to kick him in the balls.
“Relax! Relax!” Nicholas laughed. “I just wanted a hug. No need to get all worked up.” Oh, this man certainly pissed you off!
The reason you were suspicious was when he finally left you alone, you noticed your phone missing minutes later. It only reappeared when Meryl found it in the bathroom. When you asked Nicholas about, all he said was-
“You really think that I stole your phone?” His brother, Livio, was there, looking at you. You knew Livio was confused but you couldn’t help but feel guilty. You muttered an apology and remained close to Meryl and Vash.
But there was one good thing about that party, he surprisingly left you alone. But it wouldn’t last long when it was time to go home, he unfortunately had a couple of drinks, and Nicholas was the only person who was in the right state to drive.
You didn’t want his help, you wanted to stay at Meryl’s place until the morning but she was knocked out to say anything in your defense.
The ride felt like hours long, even though it was only twenty minutes. He tried making small talk, ignoring your shutdowns.
He also ignored your protests to push him off you when he helped you walk to your apartment.
He kept a tight grip on your arms, practically dragging you to your door. He tried to stay for the night but Livio called him for help as well.
You were on the verge of passing out, not hearing Nicholas snooping through your apartment.
He took stuff that he was sure that you weren’t going to miss, how does he know? He was with you for two years, just because it was a short time, he made sure he understood every single thing about you.
He knows every flaw, every mark, everything and anything. He has all eyes on you, especially with the app he downloaded into your phone, making sure to remember each and every person that messages you.
He’d share not so kind words with the user that seemed to be getting too close for his taste and that be every user, didn’t matter who. He didn’t care. He never cared.
You ruined him. Maybe he wanted to ruin you.
All those lonely nights just because you wanted to break things off, what did you mean when he was too controlling? Or the resentment he held whenever a man would glance your way?
You didn’t want to listen to him when he said that your family was no good. You didn’t listen to him when you needed to cut Vash and his brother off.
If he couldn’t have you now then he’ll make sure you remember that he’s always around, haunting you.

silly in the meadow info that was never explicitly mentioned in the fic (they may make an appearance later but they just never came up in the Big Boy)
Knives has 5 scars: 2 in his shoulders, one over his heart, and 2 in the center of his thighs. This is pulled directly from the fight in the anime !!! Vash shoots him 5 times
Milly and Knives don't have sex for..... a while after they start their relationship. I have always felt that Knives struggles with both emotional and physical intimacy and has made exceptions for Milly,,,, but sex is... its too much that early on. He almost feels unworthy or scared he'll ruin something or hurt her T-T
Pet names are always hard for me to write bc they seem so cheesy to me. I think Knives refers to Milly by her name for so long, but he does eventually start calling her "my love"
I think milly would use cute country pet names such as: pumpkin, sweetheart, honey, hon, babe. But more often than not she just calls him Nai
I'd like to think that Knives grows his hair out at least once... and Milly just... its almost too much for her. The waves and the black stripe and when he puts his hair up ? RIP Milly Thompson
So there's 5 boys and 5 girls in Milly's family, and they're named in a fun order
Girls in age order
Amy (Amelia)
Ellie (Eloise)
Penny (Penelope)
Jenny (Jennifer)
Milly (Millicent)
Boys
Arthur
Emerson
Phillip
Jonathan
Marcus
I did this bc im from Utah and big families almost always have silly naming conventions hehe
Penny works the farm mostly bc she likes doing it but also bc her husband passed away soon after their daughter was born. Secret little behind the scenes tragedy (his name was Hiro!)
I think Vash and Meryl leave soon after the ending of in the meadow. They probably stay for the next cycle and up until the market... but Meryl is getting anxious. She doesn't particularly like to stay in one spot (and Vash unsurprisingly is returning to his old habits of wanting to wander)
Milly and Knives leave too but idk how far in the future.
@veilder got me thinking about plant ethics because that is talked about in trimax but the squad never gets to truly talk about it in 98, so I love the idea of Meryl and Milly going into journalism and traveling around to report on the sentience and incredible partnership humans have with plants.
Veil also convinced and solidified the idea of the twins becoming plant engineers (?) And traveling with the girls to help their advocacy and show how to properly treat plants !!!
Roberto is Milly’s Mom's brother,,, so Melinda's maiden name is De Niro
Oh ! I have hc heights !
Knives and Vash - 6'2
Milly - 5'11 (nearly 6 feet)
Meryl - 4'11
Wolfwood - 6'1
Meryl knows that Knives' real name is Nai but ABSOLUTELY refuses to use it. She can recognize her privilege
One day, Knives says Meryl's first name quietly to her with this like stupid bratty grin on his face and Meryl is about to go screaming around the lot that Knives said her name, but then Knives says "whos gonna believe you" and Meryl just 💀💀💀 (please refer to this clip)
Knives is the little spoon (most of the time)
This will become evident with a one-shot I've written, but when Knives has night terrors or panic attacks he just crawls up on Milly and lays his head on her heart. It's a steady beat that calms his racing mind (and her body is soft....)
In accordance with recent Tristamp concept art and ideas... the twins are genderless, but are certainly masculine presenting. This means that genitalia is .... different. Please refer to @millionsknives for their sketches
This also means that I don't think bio children are plausible for either couple... and that might be a hurdle that milly has to jump. And perhaps !!! Because of this!!! They do adopt a few kids
It takes Knives a minute, but when he finally feels like Milly's family is his family,,,, all of those nieces and nephews are His Children and if anything happens to them you have Him to deal with.
I do have names, ages, and birthdays for all of the members of millys family lol
I doubt I'll ever write this, but I think one day Knives reveals some pieces of his plant nature to Milly, like wings and feathers and milly is just ENAMORED. He's so pretty already and with the added softness of feathers and wings????? Milly is done for
This is like.... a trigun hc (not just itm) that I have in my mind but the boys have 3 sets of wings. One main pair on their shoulder blades, another medium pair that sprout at their mid back and a small pair at the base of their spine. Some of Vashs wings are damaged bc of the scarring on his back.
I think if there's ever a proper marriage proposal, it'll be under the apple tree. And milly will be the one to propose
I won't reveal too much bc I would like to write this but.... but Knives is there when Milly dies. That is all I will say.
Thank you for indulging me and if I remember more I will be sure to add them lol.
Also ! If you wanna share your own hc with me plsssss do. Stick em in the tags, replies, or my inbox. I will graciously accept them 💖💖💖

Ep 12: Diablo
Son: Whatcha watching? Me: Trigun. I'm doing @trigun98watchparty. Son: What's that about? Me: Pain and suffering. Son: (dryly) who doesn't love pain and suffering? Me: …go put your pants on.
this got condensed into Day 13 bc I had an entire fishbowl full of ginger beer and vodka last night and it was awesome.
Diablo: Pain and Suffering. But First, Ice Cream.
--The bit with the shoemaker went straight over my head on the first, second, and eighteenth viewings. IDK whether that was sloppy writing or I'm just naive.
--Vash loves his momma.
--Meryl is so confused. Like Milly, she's relieved, but she doesn't know what to think. More on that next ep.
--he treats ice cream, what a nice boy.
--Again, Milly picks it up right away, and on go the glasses.
--Legato is a dramatic bitch.
--...so did Legato cut out the shoemaker's tongue, or decapitate him, or both? Looks like... both? Both.
--Vash is so gentle with the girls. He's caught in a combination of overwhelming rage and terror, and yet he keeps his voice low and asks most politely to be let alone for the time being. He speaks so carefully and respectfully to them so he won't frighten them.
It does not work on Milly.
--Monev or Livio: Who wore the big hat and cloak better? (Livio.)
--Meryl and Milly have come to care for Vash so much already. They could easily have stood by and let him get killed; he was a sitting duck. Risk Prevention, right? No more claims for Bernardelli if Vash the Stampede is dead.
But no - Meryl pulls her tiny derringer on a man who's about five times her size, and Milly's stungun shell breaks Vash's chains. He has defenders.
--JYB kills it with the voice acting while Vash is clearing out the streets. Vash is not fucking around (and you should stop fucking around too lol.)
--It's unclear whether Vash's eyes are actually glowing, or whether it's metaphorical to demonstrate how violently angry he is. Either way, it's effective.
--Meryl now gets what Milly intuited earlier - the man pursuing Monev is not the man she knows. That dichotomy is something she has to resolve, but in that moment, she decides (consciously, or unconsciously) that whatever she can do to help Vash remain the kind, gentle man she knows, she's going to do it, because that's the person he would much rather be. You can see her heart breaking for him.
--and then, the central question from here on out. Does Monev deserve to be shot? And does Vash have the right to pull the trigger on him?
--Vash doesn't think so. But answers to these questions are never black and white.

@misplacedreporter [From here, because give him an inch and he'll move right in with an old couch and a mini-fridge...]
They're like you. It's unintentional, the way his head moves so quickly, eyes snapping to her. Us.
As unintentional and quick as the change in Vash's expression, a commet's streak, there and gone; swift but bright enough only to contemplate the after image: fear. The kind of wide-eyed terror of an animal in the process of giving in to the instinct to bolt--
But he does no such thing. He takes a slow breath and soothes the tension in bunched muscles back into neutrality, draws a smile on his face. Smaller than usual. Softer. Less of an act, but it's still...
There shouldn't be an us. There shouldn't be an us. There will only be him in the end. Again. And it will be his fault, like it always is. And there's something dangerously wrong with him now, because every attempt he's made to leave, to remove the danger of himself, has been half-hearted. Do you want to get them killed? Well, do you?
He shivers, but the night isn't that cold yet. He has his coat on, and temperature extremes don't usually get to him and--
He draws his coat closed, hides the bottom half of his face in its drawn-up collar. "I know." He does. He can't express how much he does. "Thanks, Meryl."
He should be. Alone.
But he doesn't... want to be, and he likes the humans who remain with him even knowing what they do about him (not everything, no, but enough), and he thinks that maybe--
Selfish--
Maybe. Possibilities and tomorrows. As much terror as comfort.

A/N: The second chapter of The Idiot is still walking in the desert
Tumblr media
The fire fight had been short lived, luck on his side for once as the outlaws that had fired at the two of you soon found themselves surrounded by the sheriff and his men from the local town. Vash wasn’t sure where you’d taken off too but had a good inking based on your preference for cover. A short chat with the sheriff and he had directions to the next town stashed away in his brain and a few extra bills to split with you in his wallet as the outlaws had small bounties.
He should have known that luck like that always came with a price when it came to him, misfortune followed him like night following day. Stepping around the low rocks, smile on his face he froze, grip on his bag loosening before the straps slipped through his grasp. You were on the ground, curled up in the fetal position, a puddle of red under you. He isn’t aware of how, just knows he’s reaching down on his knees, rolling you onto your back, a set of pliers falling from your fingers. Your chest isn’t moving, his fingers can’t find a pulse in your neck, shirt sticking to your skin on your left side, a hole ripped in the fabric showing him torn flesh.
A sound not unlike a mournful high pitched scream reaches his ears, unaware it’s coming from his own throat. Sobbing as he reaches out to cuddle your cooling body, his head dropping against your chest, tears staining the fabric. Thoughts running rampant through him, about how he failed you, another life lost to the chaos that swirled around him. He’d been selfish, getting close to you, another drifter that seemed to have no where they belonged, slowly dropping his walls. Since the incident where you’d passed out in the desert he’d been following behind you, slowly working to convince you that if you’d stop hunting him for his bounty, it made sense to travel together. And you’d agreed, stating he was like a dog with a bone. All because he refused to acknowledge his own growing feelings and wanting to keep you close, when he should have been pushing you away to keep you safe.
He’s not sure how long he was holding you before his sobbing subsided, placing you on your back on the ground, grabbing the bottle of liquor in his bag. Taking a swig to try and dull the pain in his chest. He’s still unaware of the passage of time watching you, wallowing in his own despair. Heart leaping up his throat when you suddenly gasp for air, sitting straight up, pupils blown wide.
It takes his brain a few to catch up to the shock flooding through his system, dropping the bottle and scrambling towards you “Snipes, you're bleeding out!” What a useless thing for him to say, but panic has gripped him and his throat is tight grabbing your shoulders to help keep you upright. You’re saying words to him that are barely registering in the haze eating his brain, people don’t come back from being dead, and you’d been dead. Once you force the pliers in his hands a part of him is screaming louder, remember seeing you in that bed pale and weak, something he’d never wanted to see again. Grabbing the bottle of booze, it’s better than nothing and these pliers are covered in dirt and dried blood.
Bullet removed and wound wrapped, his head and heart are arguing inside of him, relieve that you’re alive, terror that you’re alive. His heart is doing the equivalent of cartwheels in his chest, while his head is screaming that you should be a corpse, his heart arguing back not to care. All while he’s trying to keep his face neutral at your antics and arguing about seeing a doctor. He’s not going to cave this time, no matter how much you might snarl at him, he’s taking you to the doctor in town.
It’s slow going as you’re walking, being stubborn like a prideful thomas, unlike last time Vash knows if he throws you up in his arms and carries you it will be a fight, at the edge of unconsciousness you don’t try to fight him. So instead he trudges along, acting like a crutch for you, arm slung over his shoulder and fingers gripping the edge of his jacket at his neck. If his mind wasn’t racing he might have enjoyed the way you were clinging to him more, instead he’s as silent as you are, focused on keeping both of you moving.
Once in town he feels you flinch around his arm trudging past the hotel you wanted to stop at, part of him is questioning the lack of fighting from you, wary of your sudden docility. Once at the clinic and hearing the doctors words his shoulders slump, he didn’t pull a bullet out of a graze, it’s not possible, that bullet had been lodged between two of your ribs, and the weight of it in his pocket suddenly feels like it’s the heaviest thing in the world. Brain running a ile a minute trying to make sense of everything that had happened that afternoon, while he’s out in the waiting area one thing has become crystal clear. He’s not going to get any answers without talking to you. Your face is pinched when he sees you again and he can’t figure out if it’s from physical pain or something else, he’s used to your silence, but not like this. This silence makes him want to stop, pull you into his embrace and not let go until you're spilling everything. When he followed you into your hotel room, he'd hoped you’d be willing to talk to him, instead it seemed like you were shutting down. Shutting him out, and he was willing to go along with it, if that was what you wanted.
Now, almost noon the next day, he’s getting concerned, he hasn’t heard movement from your room for a while, something isn’t sitting right in his gut. Stepping up the counter, he notices the innkeeper from yesterday, visibly flinching at the sight of him. Stepping up he overhears the voice of a woman.
“So, she turned in the key and asked you to hold onto a letter?” A weight has dropped in his stomach, facial expression dropping. “Is that why you want to wait to clean the room? So he doesn’t get suspicious?” The innkeeper is sighing, looking down, before reaching out and opening a drawer beside the counter.
“Go get started on the room, her friend just over-heard you.” A small folded piece of paper is pulled out, before the innkeeper steps closer holding it out to him. “Your friend left early this morning. Asked me to give you this later today, not much reason to wait now that you’ve heard she’s gone. Funny this was, she looked pretty forlorn as she left.” Apprehensive he finds his fingers reaching out for the paper, notices the slight tremble in them, as much as he wants to rip it open he waits until he’s back in his room before sitting at the edge of one of the beds before unfolding it.
The written words are neat, a slight slant to them, and there are dried watermarks on the paper. Before he’s even read a single word his heart is clenching in his chest, shoulders tight.
Vash,
I’m sure you have questions about this afternoon, and to be honest it’s not the first time i’ve been asked similar ones. Truth is i’m tired, so tired of watching people I think are my friends cut me out, pull away once they see i’m not like them. So, no offense, this time i’m not waiting for the fallout. I can already see you starting to pull away, so i’m making a clean break now instead of watching the slow decline. It will be easier for both of us, you won’t have to pretend and I can start to move on instead of dragging it out.
Here the words are blurred, and it takes him a little longer to make out the words.
It was fun while it lasted, having company, and i’ll cherish the time we spent traveling together. I’ll keep throwing people off your tail where I can. I don’t blame you for what happened today, but this was bound to happen at some point. Monsters don’t get happy endings. I should be long gone when you get this.
Goodbye
  Snipes
He notices the rip at the bottom wondering if there was more, but based on the way you scrawled your signature you’d said what you wanted to say. He sat there stewing for a few minutes before standing and grabbing his jacket from the back of the chair. Rolling his shoulders and pocketing the room key mind made up as he trudges down the stairs towards the innkeeper.
“Do you know what direction she left in?” His voice is flat, face bland as he listens to the vague direction the innkeeper thought he’d saw you head towards. Once outside, Vash notices the direction was towards the thomas ranch at the end of town, walking towards it.
“Did someone buy one of your birds last night?” asking a man who identified himself as the owner of the ranch.
“No, and there aren’t any of them missing either before you can ask” Vash nods, it wouldn’t be like you to steal. If anything you’d have left the money somewhere out of sight but easy to find if you had.
“How much for one?” Vash almost staggers at the price, and notices in his peripheral the sheriff from yesterday.
“I see you made it to town, stranger. Leaving so soon?” Shaking his head in the negative Vash offered him a soft smile.
“Sort of. My friend got hurt yesterday and decided to leave instead of resting, I’m going to try and find her.”
“Your friend doesn’t happen to have short hair, wear a bomber jacket and carry a big ass rifle does she?” At the shock crossing Vash’s face the sheriff kept talking “one of my boys watched her leave in the early hours, headed that way” jerking his thumb over his shoulder. “You should be able to catch her based on how fast she was moving on a thomas. Oy, Dirk, will you let the man borrow a bird? If he doesn’t come back I'll foot the bill, this fella helped with those outlaws that had been terrorizing town for the last few weeks.”
Vash was surprised at how quickly the owner, Dirk, had a thomas saddled and brought out to him. He had to smile, this was what he wanted to prove to his brother, that humans weren’t what he thought they were. Sure it wasn’t a big sacrifice but it still showed they cared about others, they weren’t all selfish. Thanking both of them once settled he took off into the desert, eyes trained ahead of him.
Near mid-afternoon he makes out a familiar figure in the distance, and gives the command for the thomas to move a little faster. Close enough to hear the thundering feet you turn, and Vash watches as your face falls at the sight of him, turning to keep moving forward. Slowing the bird to walk besides you he doesn’t bother beating around the bush, trying to keep the anger that had been simmering all afternoon lace his words. “Get on the thomas, Snipes.”
“Fuck off” So you’re back to being hostile, it’s been a while since he’s heard you talk to him like that, and he can see the tips of your ears burning red, annoyance clear on your face.
“No. Now get on the bird before I make you.” That has you pausing, fire flashing in your eyes, so much better than the broken look he realizes he’d seen there yesterday.
“Come again!?” your indignant at his words “I told you i’m not waiting for you to pull away, so why the fuck would I get on that damn bird!” He’s stopped the bird in front of you, dropping to face you.
“How about instead of making assumptions you talk to me!”
“About what?!” The words leave you as a screech, and Vash is glad no one offered to come with him to help find you. The stares and screaming you’re throwing at one another doesn’t give the impression that either of you are friends. He can’t remember if you were ever this hostile towards him even when you were actively hunting him.
“I dunno know” his soft starts low, rising as the words leave him “Maybe we can start with, why the hell my best friend is leaving me a letter, stating ‘monsters don’t get happy endings’ then running away in the middle of the night after they get shot and almost die!”
“I did fucking die!” The admission has you swallowing, shock across your face, and Vash knows his own body responded, shoulders flinching back like he’d been struck, sucking air in through his teeth.
“Just come back with me” his voice is soft, pleading, like he’s speaking to a cornered wild animal that’s been wounded.
“No” voice brittle and looking dejected you start walking again, moving to walk around him and the thomas blocking your path. His chest is tight, and the weariness is starting to settle into his limbs, taking a deep breath, Vash snaps his hand out wrapping around your wrist.
Your response is to throw a punch at his head, and he dodges it easily, trying to throw you off balance. Vash knows you have to be tired, have to be hurting, and he isn’t putting much effort into this tussle. Pain radiates up his leg, as you side step to catch yourself and kick his kneecap. A hiss escapes him “That wasn’t very nice.”
“Neither is grabbing me” he tightens his hold as you try to wrench your arm away from him. Using the movement as leverage, he’s able to get you to turn, following the movement and grabbing your other arm to pull your back against his chest. He’s expecting your headbutt, he’s not expecting you to jump upwards and leave him wrestling with your weight in the unstable sands. Vash has to admit, it did take him by surprise, adjusting his hands he doesn’t get your wrists but the fabric of your jacket. He’s not sure how it happens but you're tumbling under him into the sands while he’s left holding your jacket, backpack hitting the space between his legs.
“I wouldn’t be grabbing you if you’d just talk to me, even out here! I don’t understand why you think I'd be pulling away. I’m confused, and you’re not helping!” He’s not bothering to hide the exasperation in his voice, and he doesn’t want to have an actual hand to hand fight with you right now.
“Fine, i’m leaving before you realize i’m not worth the trouble” he’s reaching up and running his hands through his hair in frustration, that's a nonsense answer and he tells you as much. “Why can’t you just let me walk away then!”
“Because we’re friends!”
“That line has never stopped anyone before! No one wants to be friends with a monster that comes back after their fucking heart stops beating!” Your hand drawn across your chest, a chopping motion, as you stare at him, eyes hard.
“I do!” Some of your actions are making sense, the walls you keep up and while he’s still unclear as to why you think you're a monster, choosing to run is starting to make sense. How many people have walked away from you in the past if it pulls such a visceral response out of you. He notices your hand flick, unsnapping the sling of your rifle, and he lunges forward. Hope bright that he at least knows you well enough to know you won’t shoot him.
As you’re pulling it up grip in hand barrel pointed behind you, he knows your plan, you’re aiming to slam his face with the butt plate. It’s an easy dodge for him, and while it hurts he takes a cheap shot of his own, punching where he pulled the bullet from your side. You flinch, A hiss escaping past your lips and grip slacking enough for him to wrestle your rifle from your hands and throw it behind him towards your fallen gear.
Still taking sharp breaths, you’re trying to step back from him, and he pushes forward, grabbing you by the arm and throwing you to the ground on your back, pinning your hips with his own. “This is the most dramatic I've ever seen you Snipes.” Words low, trying to be gentle now with your arms above your head, wrists pinned under his hands, the fabric pulled taunt in his grip. His upper body is pressing close against your own, and this close to your face he can finally see the red puffy flesh around your eyes and just how bloodshot they are. “You’ve been crying” his voice is thick, your expression forlorn and it tears at his heartstrings.
“Snipes. Please. Just talk to me.” He’s watching your face intently, eyebrows pinched and eyes closed looking for a sign that you’ll actually talk to him. He watches your eyes slowly open, head tilting forward and a single eyebrow raising, he follows your gaze and feels his face flush, finally noticing the position you’re both in. “Ugh” before he can say anything else you buck your hips, and slip under him, his grip tightening and to his surprise he keeps a hold of your long sleeve shirt. Just not you.
Rolling away from him, you stand, and freeze.
“Happy now?”
Two words, and he’s never heard so much venom in his entire long life, and realizes it's not directed at him. It’s directed at yourself, hands clenching and unclenching at your sides, head looking at the ground, before you turn and motion your hands at your upper body with a grand flourish.
Two things suddenly click firmly in place. Your torso and upper arms are covered in scars. And unlike his own which are jagged and hold no discernible pattern, yours are neat, surgical, and all seem to cover organ locations or major nerve pathways, A large metal plate seemingly fused into the flesh beneath your right shoulder explains how you can fire your rifle with it’s massive kickback. “As they say, you reap what you sow.” All the fight seems to be out of you now, letting your arms fall to your sides again, head still facing downwards, shoulders slumped.
Vash takes cautious steps towards you, hand outstretched, unsure what to do, swallowing around the dryness in his mouth. You’re so still in front of him, making him flash back to yesterday, except there are slight tremors to your form as your lungs move within your chest. Close enough to reach out and touch you, he places a gentle hand on your shoulder apprehensive. You shoulder jerks as if you were expecting something else from the contact, and a rage fills him, what had been done to you if that was your reaction?
Keeping his movements slow and gentle, Vash tilts your chin up to look at your face, and it makes his soul weep. Silent tears are flowing down your face, leaving muddy tracks from the dust, your eyes though, they’re so dull, lifeless. “Oh, Mayfly” the words slip from his mouth, uncontrolled and mournful. You crumple, and he’s pulling you into his arms, pressing your head into his chest as you grab fistfuls of his shirt. A slow descent as he lets gravity take you both down but settles you in his hold, face tucked against his shoulder, the fabric of his jacket hiding you from the eyes of the world as you sob.
His hands rubbing soothing circles in your back and scraping patterns at the back of your head, like this you feel so small against him, and it burns how it’s making his heart rate skyrocket to have you cling to him like this. So used to seeing you so independent, quick witted, a mask to hide the broken pieces tucked away. As your sobbing slows you start talking, voice cracked and hoarse “I don’t know if all the parts inside me are even mine. I don’t even know if I'm human anymore.”
“You’re human. Believe me. I’ve seen your compassion, your will, the kindness you possess, no matter how many sharp edges you try to present to the world.” You’re clinging so tightly to him, he can feel your breath against his neck, his voice is a bare whisper pressed against your ear.
“You’re wrong. You’re so wrong, Vash. I’ve done so many terrible things, ended so many lives, I'm a monster wearing human skin. Ruined so many lives with the things I've done, the atrocities I've committed.” A new batch of tears is soaking into his shirt, and he keeps rubbing circles into your skin. “All the terrible things the people I’ve turned in have done, pale in comparison to mine.”
“Enough of that” trying to keep his voice soft, this moment is a dam breaking, and he’s fully intent on being the breakwater for it. Thinking back to Rem and her teachings “as long as you’re willing to learn from those mistakes, your ticket to the future is blank. I know you. You say you’ve done those terrible things, and yet, I’ve seen you bring in every bounty you’ve caught alive. Seen you turn so much cash over to towns that need it, keeping just enough to survive. Watch you give away medical supplies to those who couldn’t afford them and leaving nothing to patch yourself up with.”
“Penance. For what I've done and it will never be enough.” You’re starting to shake in his arms, tremors all along your frame.
A soft chuckle escapes his lips, and he so badly wants to press his lips to your hair, but his wants are second to what you need, and him coming to terms with his affection for you are not what you need right now. “Penance. Maybe, but the simple truth is, it takes conscious effort to change, and if you see it as penance, then it means you’re changing for the better from who you think you are. I think that qualifies as learning from mistakes.” He’s not sure how long the two of you have been like that after the silence takes hold between you. The only indication is the movement of the sun and your tears seem to have slowed now, tracks almost dry, sobbing having slowed to the occasional heaving chest. “Are you willing to come back with me to the hotel now, it’s going to be late when we get back and I think we could use the rest.” He leaves it unsaid how he wants to finish talking about the letter, but he’ll take your nod, subtle as it is, as a sign you aren’t going to try and fight him anymore. Today at least.
“Here’s your shirt back.” Untangling yourself from him, face red and splotchy as you pull the fabric over your head leaves him smiling. Maybe someday he’ll tell you this was the moment, your face covered in snot, half naked in the desert, that he realized he’d fallen head over heels for you. Dramatic ass and all.

What is Trigun about and especially what do you like the most about it?
Howdy!!
To quickly summarize, Trigun is a post apocalyptic scifi space western about a planet where humanity has fled after earth becomes uninhabitable. Unfortunately for them though, Gunsmoke (the planet) is an empty desert, and life cannot be sustained without the power from angelic beings called Plants. As people try to survive the harshness of their new world, and the many gangs that terrorize the towns, they have another objective on their mind: get the bounty for Vash The Stampede; a terror of a gunslinger who leveled an entire city in one night, destroying everything in his path. Bam
Unfortunately for him, Vash isnt who they think he is, being a kind and often lonely man who is trying to bring peace to the communities wherever he goes as a wanderer. Now, Vash is on the run, and while humanity hunts him down, and his sins chase him down as well, he is trying to stop his twin brother from killing the last remaining population of humans, all while trying to maintain an impossible dream in a place that demands violence; kill no one.
There's many things I love about it, but I think I simply love the characters. They're some of the most compelling lil guys I've ever read about, I love them a lot and Vash is one of those characters you read about and you're like 'damn. I wish I lived like that'. It's funny, it's heartbreaking, it's beautiful. I haven't even mentioned the Christian imagery and themes that are the very bones of the series (Yasuhiro Nightow, the mangaka, is a Catholic, and I wasn't surprised to learn this after reading it aha)
So! Depending on what you like, there are three versions. I always recommend reading it (the entirety is over at @ trigun-manga-overhaul ! Can't recommend enough) and watching Trigun: Stampede along with it. The 98' anime is good, save for some bad characterization and it's way more goofy than the manga. (Stampede gets some characters wrong too, but if the manga is read, the full picture comes into view). So yea! I love this series, it's dear to my heart. Thanks for asking and apologies for this wall of text

Untitled comic. Post-Maximum, Vash/Wolfwood, grief, mission fic. In another twelve pages it’ll all make sense.
Enjoying as a working title “Bring Me the Head of Grett Glass” but it’ll make it a hard sell when I print it for cons.
Pages 1-3 | 4-5 | 6-9 | 10-11 | 12-13 | 14-16 | 17-19 | 20-23 | 24-25 | ...
_alt: image description: Page 10, panel 1, the car sits in the dark of night with a settlement in the distance. From inside, Jill shouts, “Were you here the whole time?!” In response, Vash cries, “Did you kidnap me?!” Panel 2 reveals two vague figures in the desert. Jill goes on, “I didn’t—” but is interrupted by Vash shushing her. Panel 3 shows Jill hiding behind the steering wheel, and Vash hiding behind her seat. He asks “who are those guys?” Panel 4 shows Jill’s face as she hesitates. Panel 5, she answers: “They’re the Glass Ghost Gang.” The illustration shows the two members of the Glass Ghost Gang. The one on the left has dark skin and is sharply dressed, and appears to be carrying a sniper rifle. The one on the right has pale skin and an exaggerated brow, with a strap full of bullets across his chest. Panel 6 shows Jill’s face but not her eyes as she goes on: “They’ve been terrorizing our village.” Another speech bubble overlaps the gutter between panel 6 and 7. “They kidnapped some villagers a while ago.” Panel 7 shows the half-moon hanging in the sky. Jill goes on, “They were held for ransom, and we had to give the gang something important.” Page 11, panel 1 shows the night sky over the distant settlement. Jill continues from off-screen, saying “As part of the deal, they were supposed to leave. Why are they still here?” Panel 2 shows a distant illustration of the two members of the Glass Ghost Gang, looking around cautiously. “They don’t look very friendly,” Vash observes from off-screen. Panel 3 shows Vash in the car, behind Jill’s seat. “Maybe they’re waiting for something?” he asks. Panel 4, Jill observes, “I think they’re waiting for Vash the Stampede. They said on TV that he was heading this way.” The art, showing the pair inside the car, shows Jill with a thoughtful look on her face. Vash, however, flinches. Panel 5, Jill reaches across to the passenger’s front seat to a bag she appears to have left there. She says “But I won’t let them have anything else.” Panel 6, we see Jill’s back as she opens the car door and steps out of the driver’s seat, bag in hand. Off-screen, Vash calls “Uh, Miss?!”
Starting to look like this fancomic is going to end up 40-50 pages. I hope you’re enjoying it! <3

More Stardew Trigun questions bc I cannot be contained. Do any of them actually learn magic (weird guy in the tower optional)? General feelings on big business in town? How hard is it to get Vash to go anywhere but the greenhouse and then back inside during winter? Ideally the farm is 100% free of apple trees? Does Vash fill a shed with kegs to make wine or is that someone else's stroke of brilliance?
milly would not only learn forest/farm magic she would be an absolute natural at it. also she would drink a weird potion that a wizard handed her.
world record for kicking joja out of pelican town. but also vash would come see pierre after hours and do his friendly terror expression (you know the one. the Immortal Smile) and tell him that he really shouldn’t gouge prices now that he has no competition.
vash would literally sleep in the greenhouse if he was allowed to. especially in the winter.
instead of grandpa’s shrine, there is one (1) apple tree. :)
the kegs are meryl’s idea. and not just because polycule nights are better with wine.

There is love built into the stitches of Vash’s body.
Along the patchwork of bruises and scars that will never fade, presents from his most dearly beloved humans, Knives has always seen it for what it was. The high brow, the perfect lines of his nose, the pucker of his lips: Vash was made to love. He’d seen it when he was younger, it taunted him day in and day out. Every day of his sweet smile, the innocent flicker of his lashes as he adored Rem.
His body was so full of it, it spilled out of him helplessly, wasting away on the undeserved.
Right below his chin, along the sleek lines of his neck, right above where his shoulder blades dipped, bloomed another bruise, this one dark and purpling and insidious in a way the others weren’t. Remnant of the way his brother loved him: viciously, wildly.
...
Among the two of them, Vash has always slept first. Easily. Soundly. When they were children and they shared a room— Companionship, Rem used to say, Don’t ever leave his side, do you understand? He needs you more than you know— even then Vash would fall asleep first. Mid-conversation, his sing-song voice growing groggy with tiredness. And then Knives would be left to his own devices: staring at the bed beside his, where Vash slept without a care, happy, sated somehow, satisfied with his little world.
Do you ever wonder what’s out there? Or where we’re going. Why we're here.
Yeah, he says. Eyebrows scrunching thoughtfully, Twisting his mouth sheepishly.  I do.
… Why we’ve been kept here.
Vash shuts his eyes. Clamps his lips together. Like he doesn’t want to acknowledge these questions. It doesn’t matter, he says quietly, after a moment. As long as you’re here with me.
… As long as I have you and Rem, nothing else matters.
Knives clenches his fist so hard he draws blood.
After they stumbled upon Tesla, or at least what is left of her, Vash developed night terrors. Knives didn’t sleep anymore. He stays awake, alert for the moment his little brother wakes up with a choked scream.
“Nai,” he whimpered, half-desperate, half-questioning. The first night it happened, Vash completed his question. “Can I— Is it okay if I—“
I’m your big brother, Knives thought. “You don’t have to ask,” he whispered. And Vash scrambled into his bed. Trembled into his side and soaked his shirt until the soothing feeling of Nai’s fingers against his back had burned warm trails into his skin, lulling him into a tired, broken sleep. Soft hiccups faded into unsteady breathing.
It warmed the crook of his shoulder where Vash laid his head.
Knives stared at the ceiling with a double-edged intensity. What they’d done to his kind… was horrific. He turns his head to the side, resting his chin above Vash’s soft blonde head. Vash lets out a soft moan and burrows into him further.
What they’d done to his brother was unforgivable.
But even as he thinks it, his hand on Vash’s hip digs a little bit deeper, pulling him closer. Indulging in what this had brought him, unexpected like a gift. In terrorising Vash, he received this; this moment of comfort that he gives and he takes, this moment where he is everything to Vash, this moment that he doesn’t have to share.
Because tomorrow he will sit across Vash at the table, Vash and his hands holding a human-made fork and knife, eating human-made food, smiling up at Rem like this moment between them didn’t mean anything anymore.
…
Even now, a hundred and fifty years later, Knives has a hard time forgiving it. Even now, when Knives has Vash in the palm of his hand, having inserted himself into his mind in the most irrevocable, irredeemable way possible.
Even now, when there is nobody else in Vash’s carefully manufactured world except for him, Knives resents it. His eyes skim the tragedy written across Vash’s skin— his golden, human-like skin— in shades of darkening blues and he resents it. Resents the crescent moons, the ragged triangles and the scraggly lines tearing across his little brother’s spine; resents that somebody else left this sort of permanence on Vash’s beautiful body.
Knives brings his lips to the little mark that he left on Vash’s neck, the only one that truly belonged there. The one he painted on his skin with an open mouth, with Vash’s breathy voice resounding in their little enclosure, begging him to fuck him harder, bruise him harder, kiss him just a little bit harder.
It’s so easy he thinks, as he runs his thumb across Vash’s throat, so easy to abuse this poor boy and squeeze him for everything he is. For every drop of love that he has to give. But even as he loves, this is what he gets in return— hate-filled violence.
Vash stirs against his brother as he kisses him. A sweet arch of his back against his brother’s chest. An even sweeter, sleep-drunk whimper of his name. “Did I wake you?” Knives asks, even as he knows that he did.
“Hmm.” Vash rubs his ass against Knives’s growing erection. “I don’t mind.”
“You don’t mind, huh.” Knives is thick between Vash’s legs, poking and prodding his legs apart before Vash says anything. The truth is, when it’s like this between them, simple— Knives brushing the sweat-slick hair out of Vash’s face, pressing his member into Vash’s weeping hole— a little puzzle piece filling the gaps in each other, Knives didn’t care much for what his baby brother claimed to mind.
His teeth sink into Vash’s shoulder as he fucks into him, Vash’s pussy moulding around the shape of him, sucking him in like he belonged there. Because he already knows; he knows how empty Vash is, how much it hurts for him, emptying himself of all that love, how much he craves for his brother to plug the emptiness and fill it with his own kind of love. His darker, more demanding, possessive love.
As he fills him, all the way to the hilt, giving him every inch, Knives tells him all the ways he intends to fill him up until Vash will never have to experience that kind of emptiness ever again. “I’ll never leave your side, Vash,” he murmurs, breath hot on Vash’s ear.
Vash throws his head back, dark blonde hair matted to his forehead. “Nai,” he whimpers.
Knives liked it many years ago when Vash clung to him and cried. He likes it even more, now, when Vash clings to him and moans.
Knives is greedy for it, eager for more. Eager to hear his baby brother confess his dirty desires the way it spills from his own mouth. But that’s all he ever gets: broken, desperate moans of his name, Nai, Nai, Nai, like his life depended on it. Like he never knew what to ask for.
Like he didn’t know if he wanted to be here.
Even when Vash comes— a filthy, obscene sight— mouth open, saliva pooling at the corners of his mouth, his brother’s name slurring at the edges, drenching Knives’s cock, he doesn’t ask for anything more. In moments where Knives is at his weakest, he tells himself it’s a prayer. Vash has been without him so long he is praying. Praying to what has now become the centre of his universe. Nai, Nai, Nai.
But on nights when Knives can see a little more clearly, the post-orgasm clarity barging in unwelcome, he sees it for what it is: Resistance. The bent of his body and the sturdiness of his mind. The last part of his baby brother that he is yet to break.
Vash lets out a little hiss at the sudden intensity of Knives’s grip on his hips.
The mark Knives had left on his collarbone had begun to pale. Knives watched as what had bloomed like an infectious stain on his pretty skin now faded like the mark of a transient lover.
… Like it was never meant to last.

Trigun characters as D&D races + classes, because fuck it, I'm bored.
-Vash:
Class: Cleric in the Peace Domain
God: Either Eldath or Illmater.
Race: Aasimar
-Knives:
Class: Oath of Vengeance paladin
God: Hoar
Race: Aasimar
Honestly, not sure if Hoar would take him or if Knives would end up being an Oathbreaker, given how extreme Knives gets against humans. But its the best I've got for now. Anybody else have any other ideas, feel free to add.
Also debating what subclass the lads should be. I know going Protector Aasimar for Vash is kinda the obvious choice, but I also kinda love the idea of Scourge Aasimar Vash? Not only because "you can use your action to unleash the divine energy within yourself, causing a searing light to radiate from you, pour out of your eyes and mouth, and threaten to char you" sounds METAL AS HELL, and exactly like the kind of thing that would have to preclude a warning of "Be not afraid", but also because of the deliciousness of Vash's angel powers being the ones that burn him up as badly as whoever he's fighting nearby whenever he uses them.
Which is also why I kinda love the idea of Protector Aasimar Knives- Vash's angel powers just hurt him whenever he uses them, unlike Knives' abilities (that are- he thinks- CLEARLY more useful), so therefore Knives has to be the one to protect his baby brother from himself the world everything else and keep him from hurting himself.
Just. The infantilization and gaslighting and poetic irony of it all. Yes, good.
Also this bit about Aasimar, from the Dungeon Master's Guide, "Aasimar often attempt to pass as humans in order to right wrongs and defend goodness on the Material Plane without drawing undue attention to their celestial heritage. They strive to fit into society, although they usually rise to the top, becoming revered leaders and honorable heroes."
-Wolfwood:
Race: Half- elf.
Class: Rogue (Assassin)/Cleric of the Twilight Domain.
God: Selune.
If he got to pick a god and role for himself to worship, I mean. The whole thing about the Twilight Domain is, to quote Tasha's Cauldron of Everything,
"The twilit transition from light into darkness often brings calm and even joy, as the day's labors end and the hours of rest begin. The darkness can also bring terrors, but the gods of twilight guard against the horrors of the night.
Clerics who serve these deities [...] bring comfort to those who seek rest and protect them by venturing into the encroaching darkness to ensure that the dark is a comfort, not a terror."
Also something something, Twilight Domain lets you fly at 6th level with Steps of Night for 1 minute per your proficiency bonus, if your in dim light and darkness. Something something, Vash's angel powers don't give him wings/the ability to fly (but Knives' does), so Wolfwood could let Vash borrow his.
-Meryl:
Race: Human
Class: Rogue (Inquisitive)
-Milly:
Race: Halfing (Stout)
Class: Cleric in the Life Domain.
God: Cyrrollalee
Honestly wasn't sure what class to put Milly in, but this is my best guess besides maybe some type of Fighter.

TNG rewatch: season 4 part 2/2
Watched these a while ago. Need to put down my thoughts before I forget them:
4x17 "Night Terrors":
This is actually a really good Deanna episode where she gets the chance to problem solve and shine. But it is sadly marred by the TERRIBLE dream sequences that look so bad, are repetitive and don't add much to the episode, and which are not the best way at all to showcase Sirtis's acting skills.
4x19 "The Nth Degree":
POV: You're performing in a play and the android in the audience is reacting the entire time like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4x20 "Qpid":
When I first watched this episode, I both really disliked it and the way Q and Vash were utilized in the episode, and felt like it actually retroactively made "Captain's Holiday" a worse episode, but I couldn't really articulate why that would be. Now having rewatched it, I think I figured it out.
The thing with "Captain's Holiday" is that it established Vash as a femme fatale type -- she's rogueish and very clearly not up to any good and lying to you and scheming behind your back, and she wears these characteristics on her sleeve. She's very much not long-term relationship material (but IS very much vacation fling material). So why does "Qpid" try to create a whole romantic plotline centered around her? They kind of recast her character archetype so that instead of being "rogueish" they take some of those traits and instead make her a non-traditional, not ladylike, anti-damsel in distress character. And like, sure, that is all in-character for her, but that's not all who she is. Because she is a femme fatale, the whole plot just makes no sense because it's a plot about Picard and his orientation toward romantic relationships featuring a character who isn't at all suitable for a romantic relationship, nor would anyone (including that character!) be under any delusions otherwise. And yet the "message" of the plot seems to be about Picard owning up to the fact that he loves/cares about her, and features Vash being hurt that Picard wasn't willing to do this earlier. But why?!?
Why does Patrick Stewart look so hot specifically when he's in this Robin Hood getup??
Tumblr media
Positives to this episode, though: (1) Just... Worf. Worf going "Sir, I protest. I am NOT a merry man!" and breaking Geordi's lute. I just... (2) When I first watched this episode, I had no idea that Qcard was a thing, but even still, I definitely got the vibe at the end that the emotional note being hit was "You find out that your two most chaotic exes just started dating each other..."
4x23 "The Host":
The first queer Trill episode! I really like this episode because I love identity issues and I think the actors did a really good job of conveying, whenever the symbiont switches to a new host, that there is continuity and there's something very much the same about the person even as there is blending (IIRC, there's something host!Riker says that indicates the Riker persona is still in there somewhere).
Also, Riker is really the greatest bro for facilitating Crusher and her boyfriend sleeping together and being 100% chill about it afterward.
4x24 "The Mind's Eye":
I only just realized on this rewatch that Sela appears in this episode. Neither my partner nor I recognized her voice last watch-through.
4x26/5x01 "Redemption Pt. I/II":
So the supreme leader of the Klingon empire shows up to tell you discreetly that the Klingon empire is on the verge of collapsing into civil war. What else is new?
Kurn and Gowron are amazing as always. The villains of this plotline are a bit lackluster/cartoonish, though. I guess I love the horny Duras sister, but that's about all the characterization you really get for either sister.
I like how Gowron is a similar character to Kai Winn -- he always seems like he is reacting in the way you would expect someone who is prioritizing the long-term welfare of the Klingon empire and who has a notion of honor to act. But also you notice that he is mainly happy/disappointed when things are going well/are setbacks for him personally, and he won't waste political capital on lost causes, although he always seems to have a good reason why, and doesn't seem very hung-up on that fact. In other words, it often is the case that "what is good for the empire" just HAPPENS to be be "what is good for Gowron."
Gotta love Starfleet's revolving door policy with respect to its officers.
I do think this is a really good character plot for Worf, where he learns that he doesn't fit in the Klingon empire as much as he imagined he does; that his upbringing was after all pretty thoroughly Federation. But nevertheless, he is part of that world (the Klingon empire) and can't be politically detached from its goings on,and will use whatever levers he has in that society to advance his agenda in it. It's a very interesting characterization!
Overall, season 4 was pretty solid, but didn't have as many stand-out episodes as season 3. "Data's Day" is very good, though, and there are some cool episodes here that do interesting work with the characters or establish worldbuilding that goes on to be important later.
