I’m contemplating making some Gossip Girl playlists on Spotify but I’m struggling with thinking up/being happy with their titles. What do you think I should name them?

I’ve got some ideas but if anyone has suggestions, I’m open and happy to hear them! Would love some help in this area (I don’t usually struggle with naming them tbh).

VANESSA ABRAMS DESERVED BETTER!!! She isn't a character that I think too much about, but when I do hfjlsllaldjfh. Much like Dan and Jenny, Vanessa got too much unnecessary hate. She had ambition and dreams, and the writers made her a literal joke. She isn't a blorbo, but she is blorbo-adjacent. Her style was just as iconic as Blair's and Serena's (that's right I said it), and Jessica Szohr was too stunning to be treated like she was lol.

Spooky Mulder

Boy literally spent his entire life in devotion to saving his sister, and you think that I would not babygirlify him? Mulder is a character that I honestly love so much. He was a goofs and a gallant, and he deserves love. I never finished X-Files, but honestly Mulder and Scully individually stole my heart.

Joan Watson

First of all, thank you for bringing forth the superior Sherlock adaptation (Sherlock fans don't @ me). Joan was/is one of the coolest female characters I have come across in my life. She wasn't a sidekick, she was Sherlock's PARTNER, his equal. She had plenty of merit before Sherlock, and plenty of merit after him. She didn't stick around because she felt she owed something to Sherlock, or as if she was unable to work on her own. She chose to stay with him because she loved her best friend, and he loved her. Woman is a superhero, and she had the style of one too. Cannot get over how many times I wanted to wear some of her outfits.

hello jo, i hope you're doing well!! <3 sorry abt taking a while to get to this ask, i have been a little out of it, and i didn't want to half ass a reply to something as important as a natie themed ask....

this entire concept is 100% on my to-write list!!! i have a lot of thoughts about nate figuring himself out/figuring out who he is away from his family's expectations of him and the ideas people who think they know him have of him (since he's so popular, everyone thinks they know him, he can't escape the reputation that follows him around, etc etc).

in fact, since we're talking about this - i made a list of connected, nate-focused, stuff! and this response got RIDICULOUSLY long. so. 11-point bullet list focusing on nate, here you go!

you might enjoy my natessa fic "out of focus". it's not exactly this, but it is sort of the first time i dip my toe into the pool of.. whatever this concept is. nate lets vanessa buy him a shirt he would never pick out for himself. things go on from there!

i have a lot of thoughts about nate & ruby, specifically. we never actually got to see her, but i think he'd awkwardly gravitate towards her in that way that you do when you're young & queer and you meet an Openly Gay And Comfortable person for the first time. and i think ruby would see this and kind of adopt him/take him under her wing? anyway.

more natefic i am yet to write involves nate coming out to vanessa, vanessa being the first person he comes out to, it's after a lesbian punk concert and he's hyperventilating a bit and he KNOWS v will support him. she has literally shown him in a million ways that she's a good ally to the lgbtq+ community, and vanessa's just like, "what's wrong?" and nate is like. "nothing's wrong, and i really like you, but i'm not - i don't - " and then he says something awkward and stumbles through how he likes men, and vanessa gives him a hug and kisses his cheek and says "thank you for telling me that"

anyway i bring up #2 and #3 just to say that i feel nate has a sort of comfort with the abrams sisters that he doesn't have with anyone else at the time (he will eventually get here with blair and serena too, but in s1? they ALL had their own shit to deal with and i don't think nate was really in a place to open up to them, whereas vanessa & ruby aren't his childhood friends so in that way, it's easier, etc). and i love the thought of like. vanessa bleaching his hair super pale, ruby buying him a hair straighter (and of course he knows how to use it, he's blair waldorf's ex boyfriend what do you expect of him) and just. the abrams sisters - without even realising they're doing it - giving nate a space to explore who he is and specifically, his presentation

so we can either roll with nate being a trans man, which i LOVE, and am trying to write a fic about - OR - and it makes sense here, with these headcanons specifically, i feel like nate would maybe be one of those cis people who's explored their gender identity, realised they're cis, and therefore, is far more in touch with their gender than the average cis person?

connected to THAT, i have a fic in the works in which nate just presents... extremely femme. he goes super flamboyant, dresses in a way that puts himself on everyone's gaydar, etc etc. at first he does it to be like "fuck you" to his family, but after a bit he realises he actually really likes being perceived in that way, as a queer man, as a pretty queer man, and it makes him feel in control & good about himself to be able to do all these stereotypically feminine things WHILE identifying 100% as a man. putting on nail polish and mascara and gloss, wearing very femme things and heels, etc etc, it makes nate feel like himself in a way that he's never really felt before. (he IS a cis man.) dan bumps into nate at a gay bar, doesn't recognise him at first (this is a very au fic, i think they've lost touch since high school ended) and then promptly falls in love with nate AND has a gender identity crisis that goes a bit like "well nate maybe you can do these things and still identify as male but i can't" and it's just... trans dan my beloved.

unconnected to all that, you know what would've been fun? s2 nate is staying with the humphreys arc, and jenny... dyes his hair for him, and designs outfits for him, and basically both of them just. go thru a whole fashion revamp together.

i have a lot of ideas for futurefics in which jenny is like. 18, 19, etc and has a cool new line of men's clothing, but she doesn't have the $$ to hire a professional model for her clothes OR she wants the person modelling the clothes to be someone who Gets her mission statement in designing them (this is better but it could sorta be a combination of both) and essentially she awkwardly asks nate to model lingerie for her. he is like, of course! because i'm me, this doesn't go anywhere romantically, but if a jenate shipper wants to take this idea and run with it, go ahead, just credit me, lmaooo. i will definitely write this fic to centre around nate & jenny both being really gay, which is the other direction altogether, so that doesn't bother me.

since we're speaking about nate in lingerie, this fic of mine's first birthday is coming up in a few days! wow, it's been a whole yEAR.

so, disclaimer, any and all fics that centre around Identity... always take a lot out of me + i always have to be in a very specific headspace to write them (that's why the nonbinary dan series is taking ages, too). so while i really DO wanna write all the nates exploring how they present and, as the kids say, fucking around and finding out, it might be a while!

oh. this reminds me*. i REALLY have to finish writing my demisexual nate fic... it's a tricky thing to write. i have another fic im yet to write about how sleeping with dan makes nate re-evaluate a lot of things, in a very trauma survivor way (like an "oh, this is what it feels like to be with someone who respects me!" kind of way) and that... i want to write it sooo bad but i gotta do the idea justice. life is Hard.

*if anyone is curious about my thought process - “nate fucking around and finding out” ... wait, a bit like.. “nate fucking around and finding out that he doesn’t even like to fuck around, which is what happens in THESE fics i’m writing, let me just,...” etc.

WHEN: December 16th, evening

WHERE: Vanessa and Travis’s house  

DETAILS:  Travis spends some time with Carmen while Vanessa sleeps 

TRIGGERS/WARNINGS: None

Everything was still new for the young couple and they were still adjusting the newborn around the house, but Travis was so in love that he didn’t care about the amount of sleep that he had gotten. The boy rolled over as he heard the little girl make some noises. “Baby you just ate an hour ago. What’s wrong,” he said as he ran his fingers through his hair and picked her up from the swing. Travis bounced up and down and grabbed her pacifier as he walked downstairs with her so she wouldn’t wake Vanessa up, since she had just been up to feed her an hour ago. “You can sucker me into holding you all the time,” he chuckled as he sat down on the couch and smiled down at her. “I told mommy she couldn’t hold you twenty four seven. You’re gonna be so spoiled.” Travis grabbed the little girls outfit from the back of the couch and laid her down so he could change her in a Patriots dress and headband. “Dont let your grandpa see this.”

As Travis changed the little he was just still in shock as to what was in front of him. Carmen was the prefect combination of both him and Vanessa, which only made him fall even more in love. “I am gonna say this everyday, but you look just like your mommy and I honestly am scared about that. I am gonna have to go get a bigger gun because I have to keep all the boys away from you,” he chuckled and laid her in his lap and held her hands up. “I know it’s not Sunday, but I just could not wait any longer to put you in this and I just wanna see the look on your grandpas face when you are not wearing anything New York. Between you and I though daddy does not like New York teams, but he will pretend. Only for mommy though.”

favorite male character:

chuck bass. i don’t even have to explain myself ‘cause he’s seriously the BOSS, and the one with the most development in the show. if you know me, i love a complex character and he is, by far, the most complex on the show because he puts on a facade and ain’t easy to work out. there’s vulnerability beneath the bad boy facade. but let me just tell you. he’s hot. as fuh. 

favorite female character:

blair waldorf. i love everything she’s ever done except fall for dan humphrey. now that was the most pointless, thoughtless, stupidest storyline of the entire show. FITE ME ON THIS. I DARE YOU. blair has the biggest heart whilst simultaneously being known as a total bitch, scheming, and hella mean. she also sees a lot of development in the show and THIS RUINS ME. dorota gets an honourable mention, and so does serena when she’s not annoying the hell out of me. and georgina sparks, for being the craziest, most manipulative bitch on the show

least favorite character:

ok, dan humphrey. i’m sorry but he went from mildly likeable to absolutely loathe-worthy. not only was his mop of a hair total trash, but his whole character was just.. ew. all he did was fucking whine, trying to expose the upper east siders for the things they did and yet, he did WORSE! he’s a hypocrite af. honourable mention goes out to jenny humphrey for being annoying as hell, and vanessa abrams. couldn’t stand them either.

“Travikins.” Vanessa said in a singsongey voice when she knocked on the nursery room door where Travis was studying. “You will have to let me in at some point or get a breath of fresh air.” She leaned against the door frame, “Or I guess I could eat this sandwich I made for you myself.” Vanessa said adding a teasing tone to her voice. “The leftover meat from the ribs this weekend on the side look pretty appetizing.” The girl was still just wearing her sports bra and shorts even though she knew the outfit choice would be quite the distraction but she didn’t mind it. She was comfortable and liked being able to rest her hand on her stomach without anything in her way. “Baby...” She added on a pout growing on her lips.

Jessica Szohr is taking a sassy stroll down memory lane.

The actress, 36, is host of the new Gossip Girl podcast, XOXO, where she discusses an array of cultural issues while interviewing members of the CW show's cast and creative team.

In a new interview with Teen Vogue, Szohr couldn’t help herself but share a few anecdotes about life on set — and how her Gossip Girl character, Vanessa Abrams, made an impact on fans.

“When the show hit, there were so many opinions, and at the end of the day, I was playing this character and bringing her to life," Szohr said, admitting that "some of the stuff that was written [in the show] was cringe-worthy and was annoying."

"If I annoyed you and you cringed at Vanessa then I was doing my job, because some of the stuff was that way," she said. "On the other end, Vanessa was also a relatable character in the sense of there's a very small percentage of people that live on the Upper East Side and have these thousand dollar bags and drive limos to school. Most of the world can't relate to that."

“Vanessa grounded [the show] and brought this thing where she had a regular job and had to work for her money and didn't go on these crazy trips and wear these crazy outfits," Szohr explained of her character. "But Vanessa was funny to me because there were so many parts of her that I really liked. There were other parts where I would think 'Why is she on the Upper East Side again?'"

Still, at the end of the day, "We’re all just characters acting," she said. "Even if there are bits and pieces of us in these characters, I'm not Vanessa, Vanessa's not me."

That message didn't register for some, as evidenced by one obsessed fan who cornered the actress.

"I remember being in Italy once and this girl came up and she said, 'How could you?' and I said, ‘What are you talking about?'" Szohr recalled. "I literally looked at her like I didn't know what was going on. She called me Vanessa. People feel like they know you and they feel like they have, I don't know if it's authority, but that they can feel some sort of way towards you. Whether it's the character or me as an actor. At the end of the day, we were actors bringing these characters to life and just doing our job. What was written on the page is what I was bringing to the screen."

Despite the frenzy her character created among the show's fan base, Szohr feels like Vanessa got the "short end of the stick" at the end of the day.

"I do think fans were testy with Vanessa, and that's OK," she said. "There were things that deserved that, for what she did, but also when you play someone, you also feel for them. That's probably why I didn't read a bunch of comments because if people are being harsh or weird, I'm not going to spend my time looking at that. For me, not worth my time. I was bringing her to life the best that I could with what was written, and if you didn't like it, then I think I was doing my job."

This is Sugar Motta. She is 20 years old, currently a Junior at McKinley and her concentration is UTP. Her sexuality is UTP, and it is said she looks like Vanessa Lengies. Lucky for you she is open.

WHO WILL I BE? ITS UP TO ME

Only child to single father Al Motta, Sugar has been treated like a princess all her life. A total daddies girl, Al made a promise he’d give his daughter everything he could, and after his piano business became popular throughout the nation, he was able to do that. Some speculate he’s actually apart of the mob, but Sugar denies it.

With a father who could give her whatever she wanted, Sugar became the epitome of the term, spoiled little rich girl. While that may have bothered her at one time, she merely embraced the title now, and works harder to change people’s minds about her. She might enjoy being rich, -who wouldn’t?- but she’s not as vapid or vain as people make her out to be.

Sugar claims she sounds like Adele, and so when she found out about McKinley, she knew she had to attend and had to go and help lead the glee club to victory. After being rejected by the New Directions, Sugar decided to join the Troubletones. She’s totally fine with it, she didn’t want to have to fight Rachel Berry for solos anyway.

THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK

Harmony Pearce (+): When you look at Harmony and Sugar, you’d immediately notice how different the two girls are. Harmony with her fierce, confident personality, and Sugar with her fun loving, silly one. Harmony with her chic, simple outfits and Sugar with her bright pink, bold ones. The two girls are different sides of the same coin, and while most are baffled by their friendship, it works perfectly for them.

Artie Abrams (+/-): Artie first noticed Sugar during the glee club auditions, and while she wasn’t the best singer, something about her still called to him. Sugar, however, hasn’t taken much notice in Artie. Because of how the New Directions dismissed her, she pays their group little to no attention, sparing Artie, at most, a wave or smile when they pass each other in the hallway.

Joe Hart (+): While Sugar has a tendency to be judgmental at time, and ignore anyone associated with The Duly Noted, it’s impossible to do that with Joe. With a kind heart and an inability to judge anyone, even someone like Sugar who most write off as a snobby, rich girl, Joe easily won Sugar over. The two are good friends, but on the down low, both afraid of what their groups would say if they found out they were friends with the enemy.

Roderick Meeks (+/-): Roderick met Sugar this past summer after getting a job at Motta’s Pianos. She paid no attention to him at first, and the snobby rich girl attitude caused him to constantly roll his eyes. Since then they’ve talked a bit, and while they don’t share many interests, or have the same view on life, they’ve learned to enjoy each other’s company.
