The quest for high-quality translations

Translation is a delicate art that bridges languages and facilitates communication across cultures. Finally, the German word for ‘drums’ is Schlagzeug’ but literally it is ‘hit stuff’ which is a close meaning but perhaps not the right word in its context. (Source: Mental Floss) As the examples above show, a literal translation may fail to adapt to the grammatical structures and linguistic conventions of the target language, resulting in awkward phrasing and unnatural-sounding sentences.

High-quality translations, on the other hand, aim to preserve the meaning, style, and cultural context of the original text while ensuring that it reads naturally and effectively in the target language. This approach requires linguistic expertise, cultural sensitivity, and creative adaptation to produce translations that resonate with the target audience as if they were originally crafted in their language. In the pursuit of high-quality translations, transcreation plays a crucial role. Transcreation goes beyond the literal meaning of words, focusing on capturing the emotions, cultural references, and intended impact of the source text. This process involves reimagining the content in the target language, taking into account the target audience's cultural background, values, and preferences, ultimately creating a piece that feels native to the language it is translated into. High-quality translations offer numerous benefits, including enhanced comprehension, improved readability, and increased engagement with the target audience.

By adapting the content to the cultural and linguistic nuances of the target language, high-quality translations can effectively convey the original message while resonating with readers on an emotional and intellectual level.

Favorite Words in Various Languages

I apologize if I got any of these wrong - if you know a more accurate meaning, please feel free to correct me! And please share some of you favorite words from other languages as well! As a Linguistics nerd, these things never fail to fascinate!

(German) Backpfeifengesicht - Used to describe someone who needs to be taught a lesson. Literally means “A face in need of a fist”

(Maori) Takiwātanga - Maori word for Autism. Means “My/His/Her own time and space”

(Filipino) Gigil - When you want to squeeze something because it is so cute (or out of irritation, possibly both)

(Irish Gaeilge) Aerach - The word for Gay, out of the closet, with neutral intention

(Irish Gaeilge) Leispiach - Irish word for a gay woman or lesbian

(Irish Gaeilge) Éighnéasach - Irish word for Asexual

(Irish Gaeilge) Déghnéasach - Irish word for Bisexual

(Irish Gaeilge) Trasinscneach - Irish word for Transgender

(Irish Gaeilge) Neamh-dhénártha - Irish word for Nonbinary

(Inuktitut) Iktsuarpok - The feeling of anticipation when you’re expecting someone, and that impatience when you constantly check to see if they’re here yet

(Japanese) Tsundoku - The act of leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piling it up with the other unread books

(Welsh) Hiraeth - A mixture of longing, nostalgia, wistfulness and yearning. It implies the longing for a homeland or romanticized past

(Yaghan) Mamihlapinatapei - The wordless, meaningful look shared by two people who both want to initiate something, but are both reluctant to. It also refers to an unspoken look between two people, like silent communication and something that is conveyed solely in a glance.

(Arabic) Ya'aburnee - Literally means “you bury me”. It is a way to declare your hope that your loved one will outlive you, because living without them would be unbearable. It expresses the desire to not have to live without them.

(Hindi) Jijivisha - Refers to the strong, eternal desire to continue living. Usually used to talk about people who absolutely love life

(Hebrew) Firgun - A modern, informal word referring to the feeling of joy that something good has happened, or might happen, to someone else. It also describes genuine, unselfish delight or pride in someone else's accomplishment. It represents a true generosity of spirit. The verb form of the word, lefargen, means to make someone feel good without any ulterior motives.

(Welsh) Cynefin - Describes a relationship with the place of your birth and your upbringing, the environment in which you live and to which you are used to. Vaguely means "habitat"

(German) Kummerspeck - When you gain weight during a particularly tough or stressful time. Literally translates as “Grief Bacon”

(Afrikaans) Papier Vampier - The Afrikaans word for stapler, literally translates as “paper vampire”

(Icelandic) Bergmal - The Icelandic word for Echo, literally means “rock language” because echos usually bounce off valleys

(Italian) Gattara - A lonely old woman who devotes herself to caring for stray cats

(Norwegian) Forelsket - That feeling when you’re falling for someone and are infatuated with them, but haven’t quite reached love yet

(Thai) เกรงใจ / Kreng-jai - Not wanting someone to go out of their way for you

(Indonesian) Jayus - A joke so bad you can’t help but laugh

RWBY Grimm Guardians Arc 4: Re-Bonding In Mistral Ch 6 (Part II)

Here’s Part 2 of Chapter 6.

(The next morning…)

As everyone was having breakfast, still absorbing the conversation from last night, the youngest of the team leaders went to the living room.

“Yang…” Ruby called out. Her big sister hummed from the couch, turning to face the younger of the two with a raised eyebrow. The red cloaked teenager bit her lip. She knew she shouldn’t ask this... But she wanted to try and help. “Do you...want to talk about Blake and...our other mom…?” She asked with hesitation. As expected, the blonde sighed, “Blake, yes. Mom...I’d like to wait for now.”

“She didn’t come back with Mom...did she?” Ruby asked, sitting next to her big sister on the couch. Yang shook her head, “No, but I get why. Stepmom gave Mom a choice and Mom alone has to decide if she’s ready to return.” “She’d do the same with us, if we were in that position.” She explained. “It’s just…” The blonde sighed, racking her fingers through her hair.

“I just...wished this was an easy choice for her.” She said. “I get it. She wants to protect us and proud of her for that.” Ruby nodded in agreement, before asking, “But you want her to do it where you can spend time with her. Right?” “I know it’s a bit hypocritical…” Yang said. “But, unlike Blake, I’ve been without Mom my whole life…”

“I can’t talk to her the same way I can speak to Blake.” The blonde said. “I…still don’t know Mom well enough for that.” Her younger sister nodded, “I get that. Also, unlike our other mom, you and Blake have a more effective means of staying in contact.”

Yang nodded in agreement as she rested her head on Ruby’s shoulder. “I know you’re questioning your thoughts. I am too…” The younger of the two said. “So, trust me. We’ll both get answers soon enough. I’m sure...”

“She might be anxious over Dad’s possible reaction too.” She explained. Yang nodded, before shivering, “I don’t want to know how bad THAT might end up.” Ruby nodded in agreement, “We’ll see how it goes... and support them in the best way we can.”

The blonde nodded, before the two rested on the couch. As the morning went on, they watched Jaune spending time with Pyrrha, while Ren spent time with Nora. “Those two pairs are cute together.” Yang chuckled. Ruby grinned, “Aren’t they?”

Weiss then sat down next to them, with Ruby saying, “Your mom looks WAY different now.” The heiress gave a soft chuckle, “Yeah. It’s almost unbelievable.” “But it’s nice. I’m happy with it.” Weiss smiled. “She...finally feels better about herself.”

The tallest of the three sighed, “Speaking of parents, will Blake and Gambol’s like us?”

Weiss sighed, “I hope so. I don’t want to be judged based on my father’s actions.” “From what Mom said since our virtual meeting, they seem really nice and understanding.” Ruby said. “We might be good in their eyes, if they believe Blake.”

“Speaking of Blake, she texted me earlier.” Yang said. Her sister and Weiss turned to look at the blonde, to which she said, “We’ll need to be careful. White Fang’s gonna attack Haven soon.” “Shit…” Ruby whispered, to which Yang nodded. “Yeah.” The blonde replied. “How long do we have?” The heiress asked. The blonde sighed, “Approximately two weeks. They could attack earlier. We’ll need to hurry and be cautious.” “Blake and her family will be coming to help us out.” She explained.

Ruby and Weiss nodded. That was, at least, one good sign.

The three noticed Evergreen comforting Oscar in the kitchen. “Seems like last night made him feel worse about himself.” The youngest of the three said. Yang nodded, “It was Ozma, not him.” The heiress nodded, “Though it seems he’s struggling to see the difference.”

The sister pair nodded in agreement. Qrow entered the living room with a mug of coffee, before looking at his nieces. The two just each gave him a reassuring nod, before he gently combed their bangs out of their eyes with a chuckle.

“Guys…?”

Everyone turned to face Summer as she entered the room, before Ruby, Yang, Qrow, and Evergreen’s eyes widened. As the former STRQ leader stood before them, she was in the EXACT appearance she had prior to her death. She was shorter, had no scars, had longer hair, and had her black dress again.

Yang immediately sat up, before she and Ruby began standing.

“Sum…?” The former bandit called out, covering his lips in shock as he almost dropped the mug. His former leader nodded, shaking, “Please...tell me I’m not DREAMING. Please tell me...that I’m still here.”

Immediately, the former bandit realized that his former leader had triggered her strongest ability. Her unique semblance: Transformation.

Putting the mug on the table, Qrow walked up to her and racked his fingers through the woman’s hair, before holding her. “I’m SO proud of you…” He said, a smile forming on his face. “You remembered your greatest strength.” Something in the former STRQ leader cracked as she broke into tears, burying her face into the now taller man’s shoulder and holding him tightly. “It’s okay, Sum. It’s okay.” The former bandit whispered. “This is real. You’re not dreaming. You’re still here.”

Yang and Ruby, without hesitation, immediately rushed up to them and hugged their mom. Qrow gave a weak, yet genuine chuckle as he said, “I’m so proud of you…” Summer finally pulled back a bit, wiping her face dry and sniffing. “Sorry…” She mumbled, referring to the stain on Qrow’s shoulder. The former bandit smiled, “Don’t be. You know I’d sacrifice a dry shoulder for you, Rae, Tai, and the kids any day.”

The now shorter woman nodded, before holding her daughters...or at least attempting to, given that the two had wrapped their arms around her waist and abdomen from behind her.

As the two teenagers released their hold on the former STRQ leader, she let out a sigh. “I’ve missed this…” She mumbled with a tired smile, before pointing at the stubbled man in front of her. “Doesn’t mean you get to use the height jokes, Qrow.” The former bandit gave a fake pout, “You’re no fun.” Summer gave a genuine chuckle, “And even though I’m shorter, I’m still a can of ass-kicking. I told you that ages ago.” Qrow smiled, raising his hands with a nod, “Yes, yes. You did.”

The two stood like that for a few moments, before Summer once again tightly hugged the taller man. “Easy, Sum…” The former bandit said with a smile. “I got you.” He felt his former leader nod, tightening her hold on him.

Summer began to wonder if this was what it was like. To love yourself.

…

She believed that this was probably ONE way to love yourself. If so, she’d take it with every bit of joy in her. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Some time later…at Haven Academy…)

Finally the group had arrived at the academy. And as they entered, the headmaster, Leonardo Lionheart welcomed them. “Why hello. Thank you for...coming.” He said with a nervous chuckle. “There seems to be...more of you than last time.” Everyone raised an eyebrow, before Qrow said, “Well, the more the merrier, as they say. What’s going on with the council?” “Why did you...bring your weapons?” Lionheart asked.

Once again, the group was confused by the headmaster’s nervous tone…

As well as getting suspicious…

“We’re huntsmen, Lionheart.” Evergreen said, before giving his fellow headmaster a concerned expression. “Is everything alright?” The bearded faunus nodded, “Yes, of course! I apologize.” “Haven’t had my evening coffee yet.” He explained.

Summer and Evergreen knew THAT was a lie and a half.

Suddenly, Summer felt Yang gently tugging on her sleeve as she whispered, “Mom’s here.” The former STRQ leader knew Ember heard that...and probably Ruby and Qrow too. The tallest of the group turned towards the balcony Yang was now pointing to, revealing a black bird on it. Nodding, she then said, “Raven… If you could be polite and come down here, please.”

The group watched as the bird flew from the balcony and landed in front of Summer, before transforming and revealing Raven, removing her mask...and still wearing Summer’s cloak. “You are too observant for your own good.” She said...with a noticeably somber tone.

That alone made Yang realize that her mother didn’t want to be at Haven. Qrow went up to the two, asking, “The hell are you doing here…?” Summer continued to look at her former partner in the eye, before whispering, “You’re not here by choice… Are you?”

The tribe leader sighed, whispering, “Bribed. Salem’s brats want the Relic.” The twins could hear the uncanny wolf growl from their former leader. “And Vampier?” The taller woman asked. Raven closed her eyes, “She’ll be here too.”

Summer sighed, “Very well then. I can make her beg for mercy again.” “I know you will.” The elder Branwen whispered with a small smirk. “Plan is to trick them into fucking up.” The taller woman chuckled, “I’m glad you still got that clever side of you.” The twins smiled, before noticing their former leader grinning as she said to them, “Better make this convincing. Got it?”

“Yes, ma’am.” The Branwens whispered, obviously a little anxious by how willing Summer seemed to go along with this plan. The three then backed up from each other, before Summer whispered in each of her daughters’ ears. As she did that, Qrow successfully managed to distract Lionheart by asking Raven in a convincing angry tone, “There’s only one reason you’d be here. You got the Spring Maiden, right?”

Unexpectedly, the elder twin gave Qrow a noticeable flinch. His jaw nearly dropped in shock. ‘Oh fuck, do NOT tell me…’ He thought to himself in worry. Summer paled, realizing that Qrow didn’t know that Raven was a Maiden...and she was certain the tribe leader was internally panicking. ‘Those two need to play their cards VERY carefully right now.’ She thought. ‘Or we’re so fucked…’

“I do.” Raven said...and as expected, Qrow was even more shocked. ‘Fuck…’ He thought, before saying, “Okay… Then help us by letting her join us…” “Not that simple, little brother.” The tribe leader said. “You know as well as I do that fighting Salem is just a LOSING battle.” Her little brother sighed, “Rae, we’ve been over this. We can stop her. She’s not invincible.”

“She’s right, Qrow.” Summer suddenly said in a monotone voice, drawing a lot of shocked reactions towards her. “Nearly...died ONCE...against Salem.”

The twins and Evergreen looked the most horrified out of everyone present. Against her better judgement, the elder Branwen asked, “Then why are you still fighting?” “Not. Just...protecting you all…” Her former leader said, once again in a monotone voice. The twins felt like their hearts SHATTERED when they heard that. Raven could tell that Evergreen seemed very guiltful over this. Summer’s fingers twitched, before she said, “Can’t kill HER. But her TOOLS, on the other hand…”

“Kill off...or defeat her support? She’s alone.” The former STRQ leader said. “We can, at least...make her fail.” She then perked up, looking around her, as if she had forgotten where she was. Summer then cleared her throat, before saying, “Sorry… That was...something I needed to get off my chest...for quite some time.” “I think…” She mumbled. The group and Raven assumed that the taller woman just had a flashback and whatever thoughts that were still buried decided to show up.

Raven seemed to know very well as to what Summer was talking about earlier.

“As much as I’d like to continue this discussion...and be proven wrong....” The tribe leader started. “This group won’t let me waste anymore time.” She then half-heartedly swung Omen down, opening a portal. A fireball and an energy blast launched out, both hitting Summer to little effect. She had dashed in front of Ruby...and as the smoke cleared, the former STRQ leader glared into the portal. “I see you got a new toy to play with.” She said as Vampier stepped out.

The Bat Queen grinned smugly, “Yeah. Do you like it?” “A...friend of mine has a new toy as well.” She said pointing at the portal as Cinder stepped into the room. The teenagers paled as their eyes widened in shock.

“Thought you saw the last of me, brats?” The red-dressed woman grinned. She and Vampier then looked at a now-furious Pyrrha. The Bat Queen raised an eyebrow, “Aren’t you supposed to be dead?”

It was taking a lot of strength from Jaune, Ren, and Nora to make sure the armored redhead didn’t rush in and get fatally injured again. Cinder looked at Ruby, who looked like she saw a ghost. “Did you like my gift?” The Fall Maiden asked with a grin.

“How…?” The red cloaked teenager asked, shocked that CInder was standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER. Her mind almost flashed back to her nightmare as the red-dressed woman sighed, “Salem’s QUITE generous. Gave me a new arm, new ability…”

“And freed me from my FEAR of you damn brats.” She emphasized with a grin. She then snapped her fingers and soon, Mercury, Emerald, and Vernal had entered the room. “Ah, if it isn’t the assholes who tried to make us look bad.” Yang smirked. “Now we can kick your asses without feeling guilty.” Ruby managed to ignore Cinder as she looked at her sister and Ember, “You two want my scythe?”

The taller blonde ruffled the younger Rose’s hair, “Thanks, kid. But we’d rather punch their teeth out.”, before going into Yang’s gauntlet. The blonde teenager looked at Ruby, obviously concerned as she whispered, “Are you going to be okay?” The younger of the two shook her head, “I...really don’t know…” Weiss put a hand on her leader’s shoulder, “You understand that you have us to help you. Right?”

Ruby gave a small smile and nodded, before jumping as Willow shielded them from another fireball. “What’s the game plan?” She asked Summer. The former STRQ leader narrowed her eyes, before saying, “Vampier’s mine.” She then looked at the teenagers, “Can you take on Cinder and her brainwashed children?” After a few moments of silence of looking at each other, both teams nodded. Summer smiled, giving them a reassuring nod.

She then looked at Qrow and Evergreen, “You two and Willow try to take on Raven and Vernal.” “At least to make this somewhat believable to Cinder…” She whispered. The three adults nodded, before Qrow and Summer noticed a brief, but thankful smile on the tribe leader’s face. “Do me a favor and don’t hold back, brawd.” Raven said. Reluctantly, Qrow nodded, “If that’s what you want, chwaer.”

Cinder formed a flame in her hand with a grin, while Vampier charged her new pistols. “If we’re all done with this chit-chat…” The Fall Maiden started. “Time. For. Some. FUN!” Summer immediately pulled out her sabers, before everyone began charging at each other. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God, this was hard, but I hope it was good enough.

College is a pain in the fucking ass and some personal shit with anxiety had also prolonged this.

Now, Transformation works like this: Summer can transform into things that represent her or her bloodline (for example: A giant gray wolf, a legit giant, a Beowolf Grimm, herself prior to her death or during Beacon, and...something else that will be revealed in the future, hopefully). She can partially transform into other creatures, but it’s difficult to do so. Also, she prefers not doing it with other things.

Of course, these forms (excluding the mysterious one (for reasons not yet set in stone) and her appearances prior to her initial death (because it's just a cosmetic change)) all have their own benefits and flaws.

Naturally, her wolf forms can allow her to communicate with canines, like Zwei for example. As her Beowolf Grimm form was granted by the Grimm blood now inside her, she’s able to communicate with Grimm.

The next three chapters will ALL be about Haven’s fall. With a LOT of differences.

Little white lies

Little white lies is a magazine created with the sole aim of capturing and reviewing movies through out the year normally printing 4 times a year quarterly, though the magazine has become more well known for its independent ethos and iconic, striking illustrative covers created by a new artists each time, deadicating its front section to upcoming theatrical release.

Sin City Issue 2 - Jul/Aug 2005 this one was one of the first early covers that stood out to me, reminiscent of early grunge comic styles used for the gritty Noir/Action graphic novels, fitting for the fact that the movie itself is based of the Sin city comics, the difference for this is that the artist for this cover has taken the features form the actor to then blend it with the style used for comics; heavy sett shadows sonf light shown but blacking out the ares where the shadows are completely in black and leaving the background showing through to show where the light hits, but they still show a lot of texture in the face by using what I can assume is almost like a dry brush texture, roughing up the face implanting the idea that this character is ether rough character or dangerous, the artist also hints at the story itself with smaller type and illustration shown in the form of tattoos hidden under the layers of grime and of what I would assume are plasters, I do like the white negative look off it.

Marie Antoinette Issue 8 - Oct/Nov 2006 I personally like this one because the vibrant colours, hinting most likely to her more risky and existing life before she became romantic heroine that we know now in history, though its nice to at least learn more about the various females throughout history as there stores are normally erased or twisted, so for a historical drama I believe it works well, the one single figure of Marie Antoinette by herself standing out against the flat black background, making the character of Antoinette the main visual point of the illustration, because she is, looking at the portrait itself, id assume they took a image of the actor in their costume and thresholded it and then they most likely multiplied the layer so that they could then drawn underneath, similar to the techniques in the pen tool workshop.

Control Issue 13 - Sep/Oct 2007 the cover for this one I like the monochrome colours and black used, it gives this feeling of hollow pared along side the mood the thresholded image of the actor, I particularly enjoy the typography the font strong and bold in its shapes has these spirals exploding, visually interpreting it as them loosing control which I thinks works very well for a sci-fi mystery thriller film, so meany lose ends left unsolved. the colour palette as I said before is monochrome which I think is a interesting handle on a typical cover the highlighting the character with lighter colours showing the characters important and stands out against the simple darker colour background and text.

Let the Right One In Issue 22 - Mar/Apr 2009 This Swedish romantic horror film reinvented vampier in the love film, because lets be honest most vampire movie suck, the artist took one of the iconic scenes from the movie and beautify painted it with water colours and pencil/graphite, the iconic light eyes of the character shine through as the, watercolour blood drips down her face ones again reminiscent to the movie itself, I like the use of the hair being used to silhouette the face, the position/placement of the face itself it feels like its looking directly into your soul almost.

An Education Issue 25 - Sep/Oct 2009 I think this is a brilliant depiction of a coming of age movie, straight away introducing you to the main character, the bright pink hue, brilliantly used to show off the innocences of the character themselves, and that is pushed by the limited about of skin showing. the illustration itself seems to of been done with gouache paints considering the smoothness of the colours working together on the page, the hair, nose and eyes are my favourite, especially with the eyes and nose they have so much detail, you can see the youth in the eyes and the realistic look of them works so well and I love how the artist has used just shadow and light to detail the nose, and I like the hair personally because of the way they got light to reflect onto it as well as how it looks so soft and neat it looked.

Where the Wild Things Are Issue 26 - Nov/Dec 2009 I wanted to personally wanted to look at this issue was because it relates to the movie/book that I am looking at now, I think this is a brilliant concept for the movie I personally love the childish simple drawing, reminding me of childish drawings, and I like the idea of the ‘wild things’ climbing from in Max’s mouth, I think this is brilliant due to the fact that Max has problems of acting out in such a wild way. it also relates to the original poster for the movie ‘there is one in all of us’, I like the use of the colours are quite depressing in itself, but in the realistic view of the movie where in the ‘real’ world the character maxi is struggling with the divorce of his family.

Attack the BlockIssue 34 - Mar/Apr 2011 This one stood out to me both because of the colour pallet and the style of the outline. The outline themselves reminds me primarily of the linocuts, I think it shows the mystery and the lack of empathy for there assailants and how the gang themselves blend together when the character is all one colour. I personally loved the background/the sky it has beautiful speckles of stars and meteorite shower. I don’t particularly understand the Artists use of smoke, id have to assume that it has a impact or relevance to the story itself but it beautify shapes that fit with the Lino style.

Call me by your name - issue 71- Sep/Oct 2017 I particularly like this illustration for this coming-of-age romantic drama film, though I personally don’t like cinematic worlds use of age gaps between their gay romantic relationships. but this particularly artistic interpretation, the oil pastils drawing dose defiantly scream coming of age movie and it also dose make me think of the link that combines with the main character being half Italian, the background flows but also seems to be pulled away from the page, maybe because of the fact that there is less gaps in the foreground, I also like there use of lighting its done well to be presented coming from the right side of the page. But the type that they used to show the title docent fit for the rest of the image, naturally I believe that the artists probably wanted to remove from the original type from the movie poster.

The miseducation of Cameron post Issue 76 - Aug/Sep/Oct 2018 I believe that this depiction of their movie, the colour used for the face is a direct reference to the film poster the yellows, green and pinks. the background gives away so much for the movie and the elements and its relationships with the story of being sent to a conversion camp, and the coping methods that one turns to. The expression on there face is a well done illustration of Chloë Grace Moretz, I honestly recognised her straight away without knowing that it was her in the movie; back to the expression itself shows so much betray, sadness and heartbreak all in one, its an expression that is shown through out the film a common apparition.

isle of dogs - Issue 74 - Mar/Apr 2018 I personally loved this movie, the entire stile used in the cover in the magazine is in the same style used throughout the movie itself, the movie used these 2D elements through out the stop animation. the posters show off so meany aspects of the movie the setting of the movie ‘the isle of dogs’ the science group trying to find a cure for the ‘dog flu’ it hints to the open scenes that were done in the original Japanese style. This is a common aspect in this imagery it has little elements of the story dotted around this.

Why are vampiers don't like garlic? (I think they just want to get rid of it…)A few words about the book:I have watched Vampier's work and I know the work is not the best; but it's interesting and it's still very much my favourite read. The art is done so well that it's often a little too slow in the final pages. The last two books were quite interesting though. The author is a very good art teacher and I believe he is the one to give these books an all-purpose love. As a whole, vampier is quite good and my favourite book, especially the first couple of chapters, has so much going on that I wish it were a trilogy and could easily be my first time reading with it.Vampier is not the only one to love Vampier: his most recent book was titled The Last Book, and I also love this book.The book is called The Last Book (not that I really want to say how that one's a book since I feel Vampier is a good story for all his books though), and it's a really good book because it deals with all the problems and the issues of the world. It also has a fair amount of humour in it's plots which is great. I was very intrigued by the concept of this game as I'm not used to that kind of thing though (just like with a first person view on a computer screen) I think it can be a great way for a young reader to experience what the world is like. It's very well-written, very straightforward and a bit of a novel about people fighting for survival as well. The second book I enjoyed is The The Last Book about the way people and the world really go about life and its relationship with one another. This was written on the last day of July but was released on 2/2 so there is no real reference to that yet. I also love that Vampier's characters are not the main focus of this book either. I would much rather the character characters have had a better story than that and I hope this book gives that an even better purpose. It takes a while, though I hope it doesn't, to write a real novel, but, hopefully, there's no one else left who likes it. Film References / Black and White Test

I wanted to watch a few Vampire films to begin this project with it being featured in some of the first ever horror films made. I also thought I would discuss some of the contemporary Vampire films that I have seen and think about how I could draw inspiration from them as well.

The early Universal monster movies could be a massive inspiration for me in this project, and could be a great place for me to start my early ideas.

The Painted Bird (2020)

The painted bird isn’t really a Folklore film, but I watched it the other night and noted some of the Folklorish moments that occur earlier in the film. The film is a nightmarish experience where we follow a jewish boy who seeks refuge somewhere in eastern Europe. We follow a series of anti Semitic interactions between him and adults that he meets on his journey.

Its a beautiful looking film, shot in black and white with some amazing cinematography.

Krampus (2015)

Krampus is much more comedic, but still containing horror elements. It is a modern telling of the german folklore story of Krampus, saint Christophers shadow. Its a twisted Christmas film with some really great sound design. The design of Krampus is especially good.

I wanted to watch a few Vampire films to begin this project with it being featured in some of the first ever horror films made.

I also thought I would discuss some of the contemporary Vampire films that I have seen and think about how I could draw inspiration from them as well.

A Girl Walk Home Alone A Night (2014)

I was really interested in the film for a while I think I mentioned it in the previous project. The film is super stylish and also topical. I has a lot of fun with its topic which I like. The plot of the movie is a female vampier hunts men who wrong women. She also Skateboards.

November (2018)

I wanted to highlight this scene as a large inspiration for my, with the use of sound design and the pupetry of the Kratt really influencing some of my early ideas for this project. I think that with the lack of actors at my disposal and the lack of trained actors puppetry could be a really interesting idea.

I think further on I could potentially experiment with puppets, using scrap metal like in November to create a scene like this....

Lately, my sex drive has spiraled out of control. It’s been so high that I’ve wondered if my fertility is at an all-time peak and my biological clock is screaming at meto BEAR CHILDREN RIGHT NOW BITCH, BEFORE IT’S TOO F*CKING LATE.

The moment the weather shifts from brutal New York City winter to whimsical, flowery, carefree SPRING, I start to feel insanely horny.

For the past several weeks, my brain has been consumed with SEX. I’ll be writing about styleor sadnessor depression,and somehow it will circleback to SEX.

Even my skin is more sensitive, the lightest graze of myarm sendingme into the throes of orgasmic chills. When I was getting my painful rib tattoo this weekend, the vibrating needle turned me on. But we will save that bizarrely sexual experience for a different article.

But it’s strange because we aren’t experiencinga slutty kind of horny. This isa sweeter kind of horny. It’s not a “I WANT TO F*CK YOUR BRAINS OUT” horny. It’s more of a “I want to kiss your luscious lips beneath a starry sky all night long and breathe in your precious scent and be intoxicated by your pheromones” horny.It’s a springtime horny.

My horniness isnot the only thing that’s shifted with the advent of spring. A lot has changed. I feel an inherent difference in my bones.I’ve come down with an irrepressible, untreatable bout of SPRING FEVER, kittens.

2. I have an irrepressible thirst for ros.

All winter I’ve been riding fast on the white wine train. Basic, I know. But you know what’s more basic than WHITE WINE?Ros, baby. Ro-f*cking-s.When the unquenchable thirst for that pretty pink wine strikes, I know spring has arrived.

I was recently sitting pretty at a late night dinner when it hit me.“I MUST have a glass of ros,” I declared, interrupting a heated political debate.

“Who drinksros?!” a mean lesbian who always picks on me sneered, slugging back her beer.

“Actually, ros sounds like a GREAT idea, Zara!” a chic lesbian producer visiting from LA said, flagging down the waitress.

By the end of the night, all the girls joined me on the gleeful ros ride, while the bully drank her beer alone.

3. I’m fixated on pastels.

Look, babes. I was born in the cruel, cold New York City, andI live in black dresses and black tights and black boots. I’ve been rocking the Wednesday Addams look since I was 14. I downloaded the gothic emojis the first day they came out. I’m a dark and brooding girl creature devoid of color.

However, ever since SPRING has SPRUNG, I’ve been obsessing over pastels. This happens to me every year, and it jars me every time. I go from a black leather lesbian to a pastel-adorned, virginal flower child overnight (OK, maybe that’s pushing it, but you get the point).

Luckily,my strong, gothic aura still manages to make the powder blue sweaters look a little edgy, and my pastel moment is fleeting. The second summer hits, I’m all about that jet-black bikini.It’s not summer without a jet-black bikini.

4. I feel temporarily freed from dark thoughts.

I suffer from what my lovely brother refers to as “dark thoughts.” Thisbasically means I’ll be daydreaming on the subway when BAM, I’ll suddenly imagine the train tragically crashing and I’ll visualize myself flying through the glass, my limp body strewn across the tracks.

Melodramatic and dark, I know. But I’m just wired this way. My whole family is. It’s genetic.

However, lately the dark thoughts have been replaced by freakishly positive, sweet thoughts. I’m dreaming of wild, gorgeous daisies in open f*cking fields in the Dutch countryside instead. It’s weird.

5. I have out-of-character culinary cravings.

In the winter, my palateis overcome with cravings for blood red steak paired with blood red wine. However, now I’m craving this LA hippie sh*t that I never crave. Like $9.00 raw juices and Paleo pumpkin pancakes (yes, I had them the other day, and they were $16, and they were delicious) and couscous with wild salmon.

6. I want to rock a lob.

Long,dark hair is rooted into my identity. Sometimes, I’ll even use clip-in hair extensions to make it longer and darker and vampier.

However, come spring, I have to FIGHT the urge to cut a LOB (long bob). There is just something spiritual and spring aboutcutting off all those dead ends and prancing around with a swingy bob.

The only trouble is, once spring subsides, I hate my f*cking lob and have to spend $1500 on hair extensions so I can go back to looking like a young Morticia again.

Oh well. This bout of spring fever will eventually subside, and we will go back to our miserable, chic selves again soon.

Until then, don’t fight the spring fever; sink into the fever. I mean, the only way to get rid of a fever is to sweat it out, right?
