wip wednesday - part 2

aaaaand the other fic i feel like i can post a snippet of for @thefloweranon's request ;w; miriam and vadeyn <3

“I’m not so sure you should be out here by yourself, Miriam.”

In the month or so she’s been on this dreary little island, Miriam has started to become unshakeable. She doesn’t even flinch at the new voice murmuring into her ear, instead picking up another piece of fruit to inspect from the stall. The rain had just let up about an hour ago, so she plans to get as much of her shopping done as possible before she has to run back into Duliae’s estate. The frizzy disaster that was her hair in this weather was one thing, but there was a special kind of hell in having to walk with wet glasses that she wasn’t interested in experiencing today.

“Vadeyn,” she greets lightly, dropping the piece of fruit into her basket and picking up another. “It’s always so nice to see you.”

She hears him snort as she pays the merchant before turning to look at him properly, stepping away from the stall in case someone else wanted to look. Immediately, she notes the worried crease between his brows, though his shockingly green eyes are always such a pretty sight, worried or no.

“What are you doing out here without anyone else?” he asks, eyes wandering around the market for a moment.

She laughs. “I wasn’t aware I needed an entourage,” she says, shrugging as she gestures for him to follow her back up the hill. “I wanted to bake something tonight, so I thought it would be best to take advantage of the break in the rain. Andromeda is out with Duliae—checking a shipment, I think—and Lee went with Haron to buy clothes or something.”

“Gha’alia isn’t a safe place,” Vadeyn replies softly, though he falls in step with her easily, offering his hand to carry her basket.

Miriam beams as she passes him her basket of ingredients, clasping her hands behind her back and swaying a little as she looks up at the architecture of the city. She’d grown up surrounded by orchards and the sea, always dreaming of seeing the world but never having any ambition to leave on her own. It’s fascinating still, walking through such alien surroundings.

“I’m not plagued by any ghosts,” she says softly, finally glancing at him. “My neck has never been for the gallows. I can’t believe anyone here is afraid of me.”

“Not afraid, no,” he agrees, shifting the basket to his far hand so that he can walk closer to her. “It doesn’t mean that my kin aren’t interested in causing you trouble, though.”

She snorts. “Oh, Vadeyn, don’t you know how all the stories go? Interesting things only happen to the pretty girls. I’m safe as safe can be.”

He hums as they begin the uphill climb back to Duliae’s estate, though the sound is darker than she thinks she’s heard it in a while. The strange building has just come into view when he finally decides what to say, the back of his hand brushing against hers ever so gently. “If that is true—and I don’t think it is—then you have as much to worry about as Andromeda and Laoise.”

Miriam giggles, cheeks flush with warmth as she grins up at him. Despite how ominous his comment technically was, he smiles back regardless, apparently pleased to have pleased her. “Aren’t you just the sweetest thing,” she says, shaking her head. “I’m glad I came with Andromeda to find the answers she wanted.”

“Are you?”

“Mhm,” she hums, plucking a key from her pocket as they reach Duliae’s door. She unlocks it and pushes it open as she shoots him another big, if bashful, grin. “Meeting you has made every close call worth the trouble.”

His face flushes beautifully, and she laughs a little more, leaning back against the open door as he coughs and avoids her gaze as much as he can. “I… that’s… I’m…”

“Would you like to come in for a bit?” she asks, drawing his attention again. “I could teach you to make my father’s favorite cinnamon bread.”

He looks surprised, but the smile that graces his face is the brightest she’s seen on him yet. He nods, enthusiastic, and steps over the threshold with her. 

“Alright.”

Ok, it’s nearly what, two years too late but I just recently found Ebon Light and I have some impressions I need to share. Twitter just doesn’t give you enough words to really indulge the profuse feels one has about a thing. I had to hold back, and I’m not gonna anymore. So as I said, I found Ebon Light a few days ago and was immediately hooked so I blasted through every route in like 4 days back-to-back.

Duliae and Vadeyn were just * chef’s kiss *. I love Vadeyn for how authentic and vulnerable he was - I can be a quixotic sucker for the kind and open-hearted hero and he fit the bill to a frigging T. He was so warm and expressive and I was putty in his tender hands.

Conversely, Duliae’s keen mind really spoke to my amoral and pragmatic side. He felt mature, calculating, and subtly wicked. I loved how he opens up little by little, just knowing you were home to him made me all blush and mush.

Really liked everyone, though, even Lacey, who I initially disliked intensely. Just great writing throughout, I was gripped from the get-go on the mystery and just really loved all the character interaction (banter is so good in this game). Characters were nicely developed and had their own vibe and every romance felt substantive.

I have to say I really loved all the choices and the mc was so likable, relatable, and you had a lot of options to give her a unique voice in both romance and regular playthrough.

was talking with @gamingtrashbasin about the ebon light LIs and what role they would have in the omegaverse (bc of course we were). they helped me decide, then I kinda thought about it too much. oopsie!

alpha

ernol: he takes a while to admit that he needs an omega just as much, if not more than the mc needs an alpha. they can take care of themself and be independent, and he loves that side of them. that being said, he really likes being able to protect and care for them in his own way. will absolutely growl in another alphas face if they get too close, then wrap himself around the mc like a blanket.

vadeyn: doting, loyal, overprotective, hes the sweetest alpha in gha'alia. he's always checking up on the mc, and would move mountains to keep them safe. very gentle lover, so pushing him so far he snaps and just rails you is recommended. he likes subtly showing off his omega to the people who thought him too weak to find one. hes also proud that he can provide for himself and a needy omega with his scout training/salary.

beta

duliae: the man is a switch, hed never pick a side, even if biology was against him. he would love to see the mc try (and possibly fail) to overpower him. bonus points if they succeed through means other than brute force. would be happiest with a partner that defies stereotypes, such as a shy alpha or demanding omega. he loves to see people in ways they would never show someone else, and relishes being the one person to truly understand his partner.

omega

laceaga: this man loves a strong willed, powerful, competent mc. you might have to prove your worth as an alpha, but he'll be putty in your hands after that. might vie for dominance in the bedroom just to make you prove he can't always get what he wants from you. enjoys any display of your power and/or "ownership" of him. make him wear a discreet collar, he'll like it a lot more than he lets on.

haron: loverboy here wants a big strong alpha to cling to. hes not helpless by any means, but he loves having the mc there to remind him that he doesn't have to keep up a charming facade all the time. let him bring you gifts and brighten up your home, he's nesting. hes going to shower the mc in compliments and praise, so return the favor and watch him fall apart into a stuttering, blushing mess. his father might be hard to impress, but getting on the good side of his omega mother will give you a boost with their whole family, especially haron.

Vadeyn is more obvious. He's gotten shit his whole life for being soft and wants his LIs approval. Like it's canon that the smallest compliment turns him into a bumbling mess. You can tell straight off he wants to be called a, "good boy." 😉

Ernol doesn't want to be patronized, so he would seek more subtle praise. But you can't tell me that after spending his life seeking (and craving) success and approval from society, he doesn't... *ahem* get off- on praise and encouragement.
