#use more fog machines for the aesthetic

Note
Hello,
I apologize in advance if you've already answered something like this but my cursory look didn't show anything. I am looking for a game system that has an emphasis on the feeling of a wild west movie while still retaining general fantasy elements from DND. The wild spaces are slowly becoming tamed, increasing technological/magical advancement are pushing disparate communities together, and of course cocky assholes with guns (or a magical equivalent).
Thanks in advance
Theme: Wild West Fantasy
Hello friend, you might want to check out my Fantasy Westerns rec post, to see if anything there fits what you’re looking for. I especially recommend checking out the rec for We Deal In Lead and Clink. For the rest of this post, I try to span a very broad range, so I don't expect everything to stick - but perhaps one or two do!

Inevitable, by Soul Muppet Publishing.
Knights and wizards have defended the Kingdom of Myth for centuries. These lands have known peace and prosperity, but soon the kingdom shall be destroyed. The Prophets have declared that your city shall burn and Myth will fall. All those who follow your King shall die. It is INEVITABLE.
But you shall defy fate. Myth will not end while you bear arms. You will fail, but as long as there are still stories, they will sing of you!
Inevitable is a Arthurian Western roleplaying game for 2-6 players and a GM, where your party of disastrously sad cowboy knights fail to stop the apocalypse. This 284 page book contains all the rules, character creation and the setting for your campaign, thoroughly and evocatively detailing The Barren, the lands surrounding the Kingdom of Myth.
This game might be way you’re looking for: it describes itself as a fantasy kingdom, with western aesthetics. There are wizards, prophets, and rune-carved revolvers. Your reputation in the kingdom is important; it determines how well you can face challenges, and roll pools of d6 on a table of staggered success. If you want a taste before you buy, there’s a Quickstart with some evocative set pieces, a quick overview of the rules, and a quick adventure to run through with a list of pre-generated characters.
Far West, by Adamant Entertainment.
Imagine a fantasy setting that shatters the tropes of Medieval Europe. Imagine a collision of Spaghetti Westerns and Chinese Wuxia by way of Steampunk. Imagine a world where gunslingers and kung fu masters face off against Steam Barons and the August Throne. Imagine fantastic machines powered by the furies comprising the fabric of the universe. Imagine an endless frontier where wandering heroes fight for righteous causes while secret societies engage in shadow wars. Imagine…
This game is a combination of Wild Western tropes and Wuxia fantasy. Your characters are wandering heroes, defending the small and helpless against the strong and powerful. I look at this game and I think of movies like The Magnificent Seven. Mechanically, it’s its own system, but it draws heavily from Fate, using positive and negative aspects to boost rolls and spark complications. This game relies on some tropes that require entire table buy-in: I’m not sure how many assumptions the game makes about the cultures it takes inspiration from.
Holler: An Appalachian Apocalypse (Savage Worlds), by Pinnacle Entertainment.
In Holler, the mysterious “Big Boys” own the mines, mills, and logging operations. They rule over every aspect of their workers’ lives—subjecting them to extraordinary dangers on the job and crushing oppression outside of it. The Big Boys have transformed the land of the Holler—rivers bubble with strange chemicals, strip-mined mountains crumble into valleys, and the air is choked with a toxic fog known as the Blight. The flora and fauna of the Holler grow more monstrous by the day. Demons of every description lurk in the forests. Mutant cryptids haunt villages with their strange cries and appetites. Vengeful haints leer from abandoned shacks and lonely cliffs. No one is coming to save the people of Holler.
The goal of the resistance is to build a coalition, to bring together diverse factions—humble workers, roustabouts, mountain men, dirt track racers, cultists, and even strange creatures of myth and legend to raze the works of the Big Boys and drive them from the Holler forever. Holler draws deeply on Appalachian history, mythic folklore, and culture to create a dark fantasy world of apocalypse and vengeance.
This sounds a little more grim and gritty, with cryptids, toxic fog and demons lurking in the forest. It uses the Savage Worlds system, so you’ll have to pick up the codebook to play with it, but the setting is very very fleshed out. This is a little less Wild West and a little more Appalachia, and the setting is a bit more on the horror side than most of the other games on this list, but there’s certainly a lot of wildness out there for you to fight!
TROUPE, by TheOriginalCockatrice.
A game about travel, discovery, and outsiderness, a combination of the best of Old-School and Story Games. Complete with 6 Jobs, including the Ghelf, the Hedge, and the Ogra, and includes a system for holistically coming up with a character from scratch.
The designer describes this game as an exploration of the road; the odd and unknown of the wild, what it means to belong, and what it means to be on the outside. You’re not heroes - you’re entertainers, jokers, healers and bards. There isn’t exactly magic, but there is myth and legend. This is a great game for folks who want plenty of challenges that exist outside of combat. Each character playbook comes with a balance of mechanical elements and descriptive options, and you’ll be rolling 2d6 plus your stat in order to determine success.
I’m not sure how much of a Western this is, but the designer actually hacked this game for BXLLET, a game about gunslingers in the apocalypse, in the zine Bxllet Clip, so it might be worth checking out!
Shotguns & Sorcery, by Full Moon Enterprises.
Welcome to Dragon City, a grim, gritty metropolis ruled over by the Dragon Emperor, with legions of zombies scratching at the city walls by night.
Whether in the streets of Goblintown or the prestigious halls of the Academy of Arcane Apprenticeship, people try to scrape by, make a living, and survive from one day to the next. You, however, are looking for something more than simple survival. And in this city, if you don’t make your own adventure, another adventure is sure to find you.
Shotguns & Sorcery is a fantasy noir game complete with Dragon City Intrigues, roving hoards of undead, and unexplored mountains rife with magical creatures. You’ll see magical staffs alongside light pistols, bows alongside submachine guns, and greatswords alongside canteens, playing cards and a camp stove. The game uses the Cypher System, with an additional character option alongside the three-part character sentence: your race. This includes the signature hafling, elf, dwarf etc.

I have sooooo many ideas for a hypothetical new skillset for ashe in s3. Like
ive been cooking like crazy n rambling to my friends. Like the only thing they could do is give ashe cool tech stuff. He'd either be the guy in the chair or have cool tech like cantrip. I think story wise it makes since for her to be the guy in the chair but playing wise if yakko did return i feel like thatd get boring after a while, like if he was staying in the show longterm eventually the whole guy in the chair setup would probably get very limiting roleplay wise
so i just. Went crazy thinking about cool tech stuff they'd have
-big mechanical arm. mechanical equivalent of the big demon arm bcuz it was cool
-short distance teleport to easily withdraw from combat / switch between inperson and guy in the chair. professor cross already had the temporary long term teleport machine im sure he could figure out something like this especially given williams literal dimension crossing new ability they can research that a bit im sure they could figure it out
-more guy in the chair abilities. he has hologram panels and does cool stuff hehehe
-bonus! With the hc of her using mobility aids i thought of a super cool way to like. Build them into the tech. so i was doing forearm crutches before but like what if it was like those mechanical spider legs some characters have they just attach to the wall and hover there you know. so its kinda like that but more like a crutch without the hand usage so they can still mess with the panels n do things whatever they need to do. its like an extra mechanical limb that specifically is like strong enough to support her without putting too much stress on his body if that makes sense ? and then they move it around with a controller. Like. Like gaming.
Its literally just motion controls. and then the buttons are for like controlling slash messing with all the panels n things whatever he can do mechanic wise with that. as well as just movement. idk does that make sense. But i am so normal about the idea of it literally just being gaming its literally gaming its just motion controls and i love that LMAO
-another bonus. this ones more self indulgent but as you may know. i am the #1 water fairy enthusiast so i say. that post i made of will finding water fairy in spirit world and giving them back to ashe is canon and so water fairy helps ashe in combat too :)
-ice spears, can do stuff with water a bit, and ice, maybe they can make like a sorta fog slash mist like a rlly cold mist like with the ice ability ? maybe steam?? Idk the fog aesthetic with ashe is so cool
-ashe still has his heelies she has great movement. bonus heelies can switch to ice skates to skate on ice water fairy creates >:)
-maybe water fairy can make like an ice spear but an ice SCYTHE??? or some other cool ice weapon for ashe to use
-also ashe has wings! Idk if they would or wouldnt be able to fly but if they could then thats a whole nother thing she can do thats movement based >:))

Howdy!
I'm Dimonds456, and welcome to my garbage pile. I'm a bat who stays up way too late and cannot decide whether or not to be productive. I draw, write, animate, play/write music, and I'm also insane so watch out for that.
I'm neurodivergent, disabled, queer, white, a singlet, fictionkin, and a proud cat papa. I am a cartoon character who is way too bouncy for their own good lol.
They / he / xe!
This is my main blog, but my ADHD ass also has a bunch more.
@dimonds456-art - my art blog! Almost all art gets rbed there!
@dimonds456-but-only-hlvrai - my HLVRAI sideblog! Because yeah why not. This is one of me current hyperfixations lol it's bad
@rubberhose-roy is my sideblog used to gush about 1920's-40's aesthetics, music, culture, ect., as well as an animation blog! All my animations specifically will be reblogged there, as well as any animation rambles or gushes I do.
I have more but those are the main three.
My fandom-specific blogs are:
@dimonds456-but-only-hlvrai (again)
@hlvrai-stuck-together - HLVRAI AU I run!
@halfnautica - Half Life / Subnautica AU!

@batim-rewritten - a Bendy and the Ink Machine rewrite I'm working on
@cuphead-contract-au - A Cuphead AU where Mugman makes a deal (discontinued)
And, I have my own OC story, Follychromatic! I reblog all that stuff here, but its main blog is here!
@follychromatic
To see pictures of my cat, check the #Checkers tag! :D
Okay great. Now, DNI, trigger warnings, disabilities, special interests, and more below the cut. Make sure you read at least once, k? Thanks.

I will tag as much as I can, and if you want me to tag something specific, let me know! But as a general blog cover, things that appear on this blog often are:
- Current events
- Talk of / discussion of sexuality (sometimes boardering on NSFW but not usually)
- Blood
- Guns
- Flashing
- Talk of proshippers (I try to be respectful but also I don't stand for them and I don't support them. I block and move on, and try to explain why proship is bad, but eh. I've only been listened to like once lol)
- Swearing / swear words
- All caps
- Bugs
- Suggestive content / NSFW (RARE DONT WORRY)
DISABILITIES
Hiiii I'm disabled! Both mentally and physically. I talk about being disabled a lot and try to generate positive talk about it. I also vent about it. I've had quite a few of these, and I also try to reblog as much about others I don't have as I can to increase awareness and understanding. So yeah! These are just the ones I have, but they are not the only ones that appear on my blog!

More to be added lol.
This is also a meds/treatment positive blog, a self-diagnosis positive blog, and my general attitude is just "if you think something is wrong you're probably right, you know yourself the best, even if you don't know what exactly is wrong." This attitude has saved my life and other people I know. You don't need a diagnosis or medication to be disabled.
THIS IS A SAFE SPACE.
If you are Jewish, black, brown, Muslim, indigenous, any religion, any race, any sexuality, any weird gender, anything at all- I love and support you. I'm still learning, and I try to learn as much as I can, but I'm not perfect. If I say something offensive or something adjacent, it was NOT on purpose. PLEASE, PLEASE tell me what I said wrong. I will make an effort to improve in the future.

- Protests and protesters
- Neurodivergent people of all types (and yes, this means NPD, schizo, and all those other types that are often seen as bad or evil. I love you, I see you, and I support you.)
- DID & OSDD systems
If I have reblogged or said anything that aligns with the bottom list, that was a mistake. PLEASE let me know and I will fix it as fast as I can. You reading this right now, I love you. I hope my blog can help you feel welcomed and like you have somewhere to go if you need it. /gen
I DO NOT support:
- Antisemitism

Black Tech and what makes Magic Magic
I ran into an impasse today while writing up the Council characters. I wanted to do a Lex Luthor type, but I felt that if I made her the way I wanted, it would stop being magic. And that's because of Black Tech
Black Tech is a term I've borrowed from Guilty Gear for things that will absolutely destroy the mood of Magic and make it something else. A non-comprehensive list:
Guns
Airplanes
Cars
Cell phones
Personal computers
The problem is, the more modern-ish the setting, the more Black Tech there will be, and the more you have to work to make said Black Tech work in the setting. There are several approaches to this, and I'll use guns as an example:
Make gun more magic
Make gun less gun
Make magic more gun (wrong answer)
"Make gun more magic"
This is the approach taken by Neon Dynasty. It doesn't have guns, it has arm cannons, auto-shuriken launchers, and other devices that fire things other than spells at enemies. This works because they are very clearly not normal things. They're magical devices that just happen to function like guns. The difference between a cyborg firing an arm cannon and a wizard casting a spell is academic.
"Make gun less gun"
This is the approach taken by Ixalan. Guns are pretty integral to the pirate aesthetic. What is a pirate without a flintlock? Well...turns out, nothing much changes. Ixalan has cannons that use chemical propellant (though they magic it up a bit), but it doesn't have normal guns. A few lunatics will carry around tiny cannons instead of guns, but that's less gun than a flintlock would be.
"Make Magic more gun car"
Now for the obvious wrong approach. Magic stopped using guns after Portal 2, so i'll look at another example. The cars in Streets of New Capenna are, imo, a flavor fail. I get what they were going for. They noted the sleek 1920s cars had a resemblance to bugs, and decided the cars are actually made from giant beetle shells. That could have worked. But where they failed was by making them hover on like...covered mist or something? It doesn't scan as magic. It scans as a fog machine and neons. It's just a funky looking car. You have to look really close to realize they're magic. The magic is obscured behind the car.
A secret third thing
Talking about New Capenna is important because where it stumbled on cars, it soared on guns. Instead of guns you have instruments. That's a brilliant subversion of expectations. It fits perfectly into a genre where people stereotypically carry guns in instrument cases. Now the instrument itself is deadly. I don't even know how to describe this secret third thing, because it's both more magic and less gun, but also so perfectly fitting within its parent genre. This is the gold standard, but it's understandable to fall short.
I'll keep these approaches in mind as I convert Black Tech into something that works with Magic, and later I'll probably talk about individual cases.

Cosplay poll time! I may be doing a lake-side night shoot with fog and LED (it depends on what date the rest of the cosplayers and photogs settle on and if it works with my schedule) and I could use some input on who to wear :)
(note: I already have two Mairon shoots booked, one War of Wrath-ish themed with smoke machine + forest setting, and one more introspective/aesthetic focused on his necromancy.)
I'm not including Maeglin, because I really want to get a sword for him and I definitely won't be able to do that in time for this.
If you have any other ideas/suggestions, I'm open! Let me know in the comments or tags.

HK Headcanon: Monomon was a decade or two away from cracking electricity.
I've seen it suggested (I genuinely cannot remember if it was by more than one person and I apologize, but I know it was at least suggested here) that Monomon is responding for creating charged lumaflies. This is likely due to 1: a tank of them being near her resting place, which indicates they might have been a more private research project. 2: They're also found in many areas througout Fog Canyon. And 3: it lines up with her science-lady perception and some chemical reactions have been observed to create electricity. (I'm not a chemist, do not use me as a reference.)
But I also favor the notion of them being a natural phenomenon that absolutely n o b o d y has any idea about.
And Monomon making it her personal mission to figure out what, why, and how these creatures are.
Part 1: Lumaflies v.s. Charged Lumaflies
According to the Hunter, "[t]hey usually drift about peacefully, but sometimes they cluster together and spit out a sharp, crackling flash that will stun and burn even large beasts like myself." It is unclear if by this he means regular lumaflies cluster together and combine their innate electrical charges or if charged lumaflies are a subspecies of lumaflies. Their differing behavior suggests the latter, but there's not many groups of lumaflies in peaceful, natural to compare them to. (The infected state of the lumaflies in the Watcher Knight's room certainly can't be considered normal circumstances.) It's a small, inconsequential mystery for the player in Hallownest’s ruins.
Part 2: Canon Use of (Charged?) Lumaflies and Associated Precautions
Assuming that lumaflies and charged lumaflies are of the same species, it makes sense that they're kept in separate glass lamps. The large chandeliers in the Watcher Knights' room have separate lamps to seemingly hold one or a few lumas as light sources, and likely to prevent a harmful shock. (The lower parts of these chandeliers seem slightly more opaque. Might be made of quartz, designed to produce a dispersed, aesthetic glow. But these parts appear to hold at least 1-3 lumaflies— unless they're flat sections of glass/quartz? Anyways,) I imagine the first crafters of luma-lamps and lumafly carers learned the hard way not to put a bunch of (agitated) ouch-flies in a jar. It might be brighter but, definitely not worth the potential danger. Thus, the separate lamps are put into practice. Can it be called inefficient if it's safe? Perhaps not, but that probably wouldn't stop the Teacher from trying to find a way to make it better.
Tumblr media
Part 3: Integration of Electricity and Charged Lumafly Husbandry
That makes me wonder, if she d i d crack the mystery to their charge, how would that electricity be integrated into Hallownest? Slowly. It'd probably start out as a lightly tested energy system only accessible for the elite, until it becomes a safer and a widespread commodity. The bugs of Hallownest display a masterful knack for engineering. (The worst of it being in use at the Crystal Peaks and White Palace.) Pretty much all their machines (save for those in the White Palace and the Soul Sanctum key door) seem to be mechanically activated and involve switches, pulleys, and gears. The only sources of activation we see are either pressure/inertia or soul. Both require bugs to consciously put systems in place to keep it activated. Not too much though, it seems, since it’s not that hard to flip a switch or, if you're the King, to produce soul. But electricity is much more versatile. It'd replace those bulky machines and labyrinths full of gears. Plus, it's a much more powerful, versatile source of energy. (SAD for lumafly lovers like me, though.)
Though, what would this mean for the charged lumaflies? How would they be treated? Would they simply need to be kept in groups to produce charges, or must they feel threatened and stressed to do so? Do they expire faster if they don't stop shocking? Are the natural pauses between shocks their safety cooldowns? Wouldn't the stress still negatively affect them? Would groups of charged lumaflies need to be conditioned to shock in alternating patterns so they electricity keeps flowing? Would people breed stronger c. lumaflies for more charge? Would the mutant-lumaflies escape their feeble handlers, resulting in a hoarde of lightning beasts that raze Hallownest to the ground???
Hopefully, all of the above are factors the Teacher would consider.
Side Note: Volt Twisters?
And as a side note— maybe I'm underestimating the arrogance of the Soul Sanctum residents, but I cannot see a rational scholar looking at this artifical ouch-fly and going, "Mm. Yes, I should eat that to gain their power." However, there are people in real life who do that with synthesized substances so I'm likely just thinking wishfully. Just because I can't stand artificial tastes and smells doesn't mean others cannot. And bugs definitely have alcohol. They definitely have revelry. There's probably some other artifical stuff in the mix, too. And there's the whole soul-sucking business in the Sanctum, and the King himself tampered with the Void Beneanth the World. But regsrdless of whether they're natural or artificial, this makes me wonder... Is the reason why the volt twisters only show up at the Colosseum because they were kicked out for charged lumafly "drugs"? "Oh no, don't put that lethal, sense-exploding substance inside you that's not supposed to be inside you, noooo." Kinda hypocritical, given the aforementioned soul-sucking. But feasibly in character for the upper-crust madman running the place.
Tumblr media
Maybe these guys were ahead of the game, though. If only Monomon hadn't become a Dreamer— we might have gotten a Hallownest glowing with electricity; a much more dangerous but adaptable place.
But on that note, how the heck are the music players powered? By soul? That seems to be what powers the trams, if their glowing buttons are anything to go off of. Maybe the Pale King would approve of inegrating electricity as both a sign of his kingdom’s advancement and him not having to expend himself for his cool projects anymore. (Probably his alone because only he might be able to power them, as far as we know.) It could even let them become widespread household/town items.
So, yeah. Monomon was/is smart and I think she deserves to solve a natural mystery

Ideas for new -punk aesthetics
You’ve heard of cyberpunk, and steampunk, and, if you’re cool, Solarpunk. I am going to be making new -punk styles and describing them here.
Eldritchpunk
-So usually, these things are based on whatever power source they’re using, so in Eldritchpunk, they use some otherworldly energy to power their machines.
-Set in port towns or lovecraftian-esch cities. 19th to early 20th century.
-Boats. Fog. Ocean things.
-Machinery with pumping pistons and glowing tubes filled with otherworldly sludge. Some machines or vehicles built around creatures.
-Eldritch Horror and such are semi-commonplace. Possibly even otherworldly beings living within cities as civilians.
-Kinda steampunky but less steam and brass and more fog and wet wood
Podunkpunk
-Code Name: KND and Craig of the Creek energy. A bunch of kids in a small town making weapons and stuff that probably shouldn’t work and yet it does.
-Gumball guns and slingshots. Treehouse bases. Lots and lots of duct tape.
-Small towns with kids riding around on bicycles here and there protecting the town from whatever.
-Double A batteries, random lightbulbs, that stuff.
Runepunk
-Powered by rocks with runes on them or things of the sort.
-Could be taken in the direction of either Nordic Viking aesthetics with runic technology and semi-modern, or semi-modern people discovering runic technology and using it for floating structures and such.
Biopunk
-Think the game Scorn with all the technology being made of pulsing meat and intestinal tubes.
Rhythmpunk
-Machinery being controlled in some way shape or form from music.
I kinda lost steam (funny joke) after Podunkpunk.
Anyway here are just some ideas.

The first time I saw Unreal running at a friends house was a literal game changer
I must have been exposed to Quake by this point, but Unreal introduced coloured lighting, more detailed environments and had a sci-fi aesthetic which really appealed to me.
I imagine it was running with only software rendering at perhaps a 320x240 resolution, but it was still one of the most impressive looking worlds I'd ever seen running in a computer at that point in my life
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way the lighting lit up the world with halos around certain light sources felt revolutionary. Fog was used to add atmosphere and really added to the sense that this was a real world.
With my newly obtained Pentium III 600MHz PC paired with a Voodoo 3 3000 I've been able to run this game using Glide for the first time ever. With the machine having a few bit more muscle than it required the game runs beautifully.
The funny part is that I can almost feel the same sense of wonder playing it again today. The first 5 minutes of the game are an amazing showcase for what the Unreal engine was capable of as it transitioned from the cramped metalic interior of the crashed spaceship you start in to the (then seemingly massive) outdoor world.
Also I imagine seeing it on my lovely Sony CPD-4410 Trinitron adds to the beauty of the experience!

Put On Your Raincoats | Friday the 13th: A Nude Beginning (Lincoln, 1987)
Tumblr media
You guys all love the part in a Friday the 13th movie where Jason puts on a hockey mask and kills people? What about the part in a Friday the 13th movie where Jason puts on a hockey mask and...sits around cutting up pictures from a magazine? I guess that’s implied violence? You know, giving us some insight into his psychology? Now what about the part where he takes off the mask, and it turns out he’s a demon in hell played by Paul Thomas, and he bickers with Justine, another demon played by Amber Lynn, about who’s better at corrupting mankind? And the part where Jason and Justine go to earth and proceed to orchestrate a series of sex scenes involving a bunch of completely unrelated characters in an effort to prove who’s the most devious of them all? Yeah, that’s usually a fun part of any Friday the 13th movie, right?
Well, that’s what happens in Friday the 13th: A Nude Beginning, a porn “parody” directed by Fred J. Lincoln, who most people know as one of the villains in Last House on the Left, which was a Sean S. Cunningham production, like the original Friday the 13th, which starred Kevin Bacon, and that’s within six degrees. Really, aside from the fact that one of the characters is named Jason and briefly wears a hockey mask, there is no attempt to evoke the series. Like, there are no scenes where Jason runs around and, instead of sticking machetes into people, he inserts marital aids. Which is something you’d hope would happen in a porn parody of a slasher, but the movie disappoints on that level. The only attempt at any horror aesthetics is the discount hell that the introductory scene and interludes take place in, a mix of lo fi set design, and overactive fog machine, and lots of red, that captured on video take on an endearing quality not unlike heavy metal music videos of the era. Otherwise, this is aesthetically in line with the average SOV production of the era, where the camera doesn’t do anything too fancy and usually points at the places you’d want it to point in a porno.
It probably sounds like I’m being dismissive here, but I actually had a really good time with this. I knew going in this wasn’t going to be a very good parody of the series, but I wasn’t expecting a script with this much great dialogue, which I will naturally provide samplings of. If there is a satirical target here, it’s at the usual establishment figures of the ‘80s: the US government, televangelists, and an anti-porn feminist activist modeled after Andrea Dworkin. There’s also a scene where Thomas persuades a character to violate the sanctity of marriage by making up an old tradition that “dates back to the Celtics, or is it the Lakers?” I’m not sure how exactly this is satirical, but when she says what they’re doing is “evil”, I’m not sure I buy it. I mean, it’s not good for her relationship, but evil seems like a strong word here.
There’s a scene between the President and a Colombian guerilla, where the latter pleads for military aid to overthrow her country’s government. Now, my guess is that she would be from FARC, who I understand are Marxist-Leninist, so I’m not sure how likely they would be in real life to ask for help for the Reagan administration. I did like this exchange, where the President speaks of the importance of coffee to Colombia’s economy.
"It's the drink of the fascist oppressors."
"I like mine without cream."
Of course, this scene proceeds as one would expect, arguably rendering the figurative fucking over of Latin America by the US in more literal terms. In that sense, it’s about as astute a satire as Alex Cox’s Walker, replacing the explosions of blood and gunpowder with explosions of...something else. Now, Lynn takes credit for orchestrating this scene, but aside from briefly appearing at the beginning and leaving the room, it’s not clear what her contribution is. And as Thomas points out, "You picked a politician. He didn't have a soul to begin with."
The scenes with the televangelist are more broader but funnier. First Lynn appears as a nun, surprising the televangelist played by Joey Silvera, who is very shouty and very animated. ("Today's the 12th, sister, and Mother Teresa wasn't supposed to come until the 13th. You're supposed to be a Japanese schoolgirl.") Naturally they get it on, but then there’s a second scene where he ends up having a threesome on live TV. Lynn’s role again isn’t apparent at first glance, but when Thomas knocks her efforts, she takes umbrage.
"Are you kidding? I had to work my ass off on that one! I had to bring in a blind girl from Russia! I had to go out and find a black lesbian nymphomaniac! I had to break some homosexual makeup artist's legs! And have you any idea how hard it is to grow a one-legged man's leg back?"
As they say, great art can often seem effortless.
The final stretch of the movie has the Dworkin stand-in, played by Nina Hartley, being seduced by Thomas and giving up her militant ways. And then out of concern for his fate, Lynn intervenes to seduce her as well, only to hand her off to a pimp played by Billy Dee (who unlike the King of the Pimps played by Jack Baker in Let Me Tell Ya ‘Bout White Chicks, does some actual pimping at the end). If there’s an issue with this section, it’s the suggestion that dolled up hairspray Hartley is somehow more attractive than glasses Hartley, but the scene between Lynn and Hartley is a clash of the titans, like between King Kong and Godzilla, but the new one where they’re actually friends. Whether or not the results are sexier will depend on the viewer, but I can report most of the performers here are in fine form, if you’re watching it for those reasons.
So there’s plenty of great dialogue, and some very funny supporting performances by Silvera and Hartley, but as you can guess from the poster, what really makes the movie work is Amber Lynn herself. She’s great. Aside from a few minor roles (scenes in 52 Pick-Up and The Devil in Miss Jones 3: A New Beginning) I’d previously seen her in Things, where she managed to project some degree of glamour despite the fact that she was reading off the cue cards and was in fucking Things. And here, you get some of that same quality. As her character says, she does things with “style” and “pizazz”, and the results are evident onscreen, as she struts around hell, radiating star power. (I should note that while she carries a trident on the cover, she never actually pokes anyone with it, which is one disappointing thing about the movie.) She and Thomas have lots of great banter and both hold their own pretty ably. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t really considered diving further into her filmography, as I got the sense there wasn’t much artistry in there, but now I think I’ll have to do some further investigation.
Anyway, a few more good lines, because why not:
"One must always jack off with their preferred hand."
“Have you spoken to the Lord today?"
"I can't say I did. His line was busy."
"I'll show you corruption with a capital K!"
"A blind communist with cancer? You're on in two minutes."
"God bless you."
"Fat chance."
"I will not let your puns get to me."
"Are you on glue?"
Not the Friday the 13th parody we wanted, but the one we needed.

- met FARADAY, who seems to be DIMA’s caretaker in some capacity i think.
Tumblr media
- DIMA is he/him! adjusting accodingly.
- by “putting so much of himself into this”, i feel like FARADAY might be implying the whole external rig is for the sake of running this place? most of the tech i’ve seen so far seems to be more for the Aesthetic (plugging in a billion computer monitors for scrolling gibberish is a cool look but it also does nothing at the expense of a Lot of power), and the FOG CONDENSERS sound more mechanical than computational, so idk what he’s doing with all the extra processing power. maybe he’s got a reverse mind wipe machine or something, using his galaxy brain to piece deleted memories back together from the scraps in people’s recycle bins? idk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- so DIMA’s the brains of the operation, FARADAY’s the hands, which probably means the third musketeer holds an equally vital position. my first inclination is that they’re the muscle, but this might not be that well-rounded a group, so they could just as easily be some kind of doctor? an anti-AMARI, if you will?
Tumblr media
- oh FARADAY and DIMA are close close. like, full trust to repair and maintain the other’s brain, “not for me not if it’s you” close.
- FARADAY’s given me a mission to collect some hard drives from a crashed ship - adding it to the list.
- just for the hell of it, i decided to ask OLD LONGFELLOW what he thinks of all this drama that he’s unwittingly been dragged into. interestingly, instead of the “your thoughts?” option, his menu has the phrase “got your gear?”, which confuses me a little.
Tumblr media
- ...cool? i think i may have just found the source of the FOG, guys.

Well you see. Ever since the neighbor got turned, theyve been leaning way too much into the aesthetics of being a vampire. Keeping Halloween decorations up all year long, dressing in a cape and fancy clothing, speaking in a fake Transylvanian accent... I brought them cookies the other day and discovered they have smoke machines in the house!! They're embarrassing, and I'd pay a couple thousand dollars for a trainer to just. Make them chill a bit. You know?
It was decided between the two that it would be Key to take this on.
She has a smile on her face and tries not to laugh as you describe your neighbor. "I don't see an issue with them having smoke machines in their own house, that's just a fun choice of decor." She humors "I can't give them training just for that unless they agree to it. But I can talk to them.. vampire to vampire."
Her grin looked awfully mischievous. "Don't worry about payment for it, but you're free to tip afterwards if you're happy with the outcome."
After talking with you Key goes to go talk with your neighbor.
Honestly she doesn't to much to try to actually fix the problem. She compliments the neighbor on their outfit and the decor both inside and outside their house.
She does inform them that the sudden changes has been... worrisome to their neighbors and does offer training for how to still be their vampiric self while not concerning their neighbors as much as she understands it can be quite the shift and learning curve to deal with alone!
But she also informs them of more proper vampire decor, that plants in their yard should have more thorns and ominous shadows. That while withered plants are the standard ones that are healthy and alive are perfectly acceptable.
She notes while she does love the smoke machines that maybe the neighbor should use them just a little bit less so that way when there are foggy days there's more of a natural dense fog around their house. Artificial fog tends to prevent that sometimes.
She has no tips or advice on the neighbor's clothes, she thinks the outfits are great and even knows other vampires that dress like that. Sometimes she does as well.
She'd also recommend getting to know their neighbors better! Without turning them. Because a lot of misunderstandings come from neighbors not knowing better, and also the new accent (fake or not) might be very jarring. Being friends with your neighbors, especially while being a vampire, can be very beneficial! It also makes it less likely for them to end up with a stake in their heart. So that alone is pretty important!
She'd also tell them to be open to criticism, she's seen so many good vampires be dragged down to hell for training as a result of not listening to criticism which lead to them snapping and attacking people unnecessarily. It's truly a shame when that happens.
She has no control whether or not the neighbor takes her advice.
If they do, while they still be much they should be more accurate instead of stereotypical image of a vampire. Hopefully they'll also be more tolerable of a neighbor after you get to know the new them.

9 Mind Blowing Christmas Ideas With Silhouette Cameo
When holidays are just around the corner, all we can actually think about is how to make it festive and dreamy for our families. The few things that complete a perfect holiday are definitely food, family, laughter, and good decoration.
Over the years, I have understood that it is far better to be prepared well in advance and use the right gadgets to help us attain speedy preps. I have actually been using my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine to make my Christmas decorations intricate and festive. I am sure you have arrived at my blog because you want some Christmas ideas with Silhouette Cameo. With all the preparations in full swing are brain often tends to fog when we think about Christmas decorations. Have you been struggling lately with what to create for Christmas using your flawless Silhouette Cameo machine? Then don’t you worry, I have got you sorted.
The idea behind creating a perfect craft piece for Christmas using Silhouette Cameo cutting machine is to keep it simple yet creative. Go looking for little details that you want to wrap up in festivity with your craft. For example, using a festive acrylic disc for serving cupcakes, cookies, or gingerbread can really be a tiny yet thoughtful Christmas decor. One more easy yet simple thing that you can create using your Silhouette Cameo is a Christmas tree ornament. This blog is filled with many mind-blowing Christmas ideas with Silhouette Cameo that will take your holiday decoration up a notch. So, keep reading to get inspired and create a dream holiday.
Christmas Ideas With Silhouette Cameo
Before starting a rundown of the best Christmas ideas with Silhouette Cameo, I am going to boost you up a little. Using your Silhouette Cameo to make crafts and decorations for Christmas is fast and easy, and the possibilities are just endless. With just a little effort, you can also save a lot of your money and use it for some other Christmas tradition instead of buying super expensive personalized Christmas decors. So, buckle up, get inspired, and create:
Snow Village Etched Cake Covering Dome
Cakes and Christmas go hand-in-hand; from plum cakes to modern iced cakes, we have so many options. But to cover them with beautiful cake lids would actually accentuate the aesthetics of your dining table or kitchen top. With your Silhouette Cameo, you can cut intricate snow village stickers or any other holiday design you like. Once you cut it out, simply apply it to the sides of your transparent cake dome by peeling off the sticky clear plastic. This simple trick saves your money in a blink of an eye and gives the best Christmas vibes.
Jingle All the Way Holiday Sign
Wooden holiday signs are a creative addition to the whole Christmas vibe. You can print famous Christmas jingles or make a signboard exclaiming the classic “Merry Christmas.”   I used the famous one-liner from my favorite Christmas carol- “jingles all the way.” You can hang these signboards near the fireplace, staircase, or in the mailbox. You can cut strong balsa wood using your Silhouette Cameo machine. And then, with just a few brush strokes, you will be good to go.
Rustic Christmas Sign
Nothing beats a traditional rustic decor piece. With time, we have become more technical and adore modern crafts. But trust me, a rustic Christmas sign is sometimes all that you need. To get the rustic vibe, use custom stencils that you can very easily cut out from your Cameo machine. Use that customized stencil to write classic font style Christmas phrases, and to add more class, use a fun woodsy decor on the sides. I bet this will give you the nostalgia for the old Christmas movie looks.
Faux Metal Christmas-tree Ornaments
The Christmas tree is the centerpiece of any Christmas decoration. A well-done tree could actually complete your whole Christmas look. But often times this process is anxious enough, you know, from finding the perfect pine tree, having good length is in itself a huge task. The last thing that often comes to our minds is stressing over ornamental pieces and glass balls to cover the entire tree. You can use a few layers of Silhouette chipboard and some embossing powder and create intricate faux metal ornaments to beautify your Christmas tree. Some design options I can suggest here are reindeer, Santa caps, bells, stars, etc. Once you cut the ornaments out, use a little strand of ribbon to hang them well on the tree.
Christmas Subway Art
Instead of running to the shopping mall to get good wall pictures, why not create some superfast and fun designs yourself? All you need is your desktop to get the design customized, your Silhouette Cameo cutting machine, a picture frame, and paper. Use little holiday-inspired texts, icons, pictures, graphics, texts, or images from the vast library of your designing app and print them out to frame it.
Reversible Holiday Blocks
Create your very own texts on some wooden blocks with your Silhouette Cameo machine. Cut some from a wooden piece and choose the size of each block. Use an electric sander for sanding the sides of the blocks, giving them a cleaner look. You can stain the blocks or leave them natural and then mod-podge the paper on the block. So instead of writing the texts just one side. I used the back side of the blocks to write something else.
Decorative/Etched Glass Blocks
Just as the previously explained wooden blocks are capable of upgrading your homes into a wonderland for Christmas, you can also use glass blocks as well. Simply take glass blocks of the size you prefer; no cutting or shaping is needed. Cut out beautiful calligraphed letters with the help of your Silhouette Cameo machine. And emboss them on your glass blocks; you can also add some fairy lights near the glass blocks to add more glamour to regular blocks.
Do-It-Yourself Lighted Sign
There are so many ways to make beautiful signs for Christmas; I also tried using lights on the sign to write letters. Believe me; it was a game changer. You can cut out Balsa wood in the shape you want to and then use mini light bulbs to write on the wooden block.
Etched Lightbulbs
Lightbulbs add so much beauty to the night times during Christmas. I guess the bling they add to the glory of Christmas nights is absolutely breathtaking. Lightbulbs are whole in themselves, but I believe in getting a little creative with them by etching Christmas-related designs on them. The light emitted from these beautifully etched light bulbs emits Christmas patterns on the walls near them, adding festivity to your homes at night.

Sinister City Might Be A Good Idea If I Change It
Having trekked into the forest to reconstitute my mind, and then trying and failing to channel my inner hunter-gatherer and catch a deer on foot, I have decided that the basics of Sinister City work really well. It's a great aesthetic - it's unique, I like it personally, it'll be interesting to make artistically, and the related blog post/s got reblogged twice, so I know other people are finding it cool. Most of my percieved gripes with the game came from (a) the environment would take ages to make, and people wouldn't want to explore randomly, and (b) the mystery plot doesn't make for a compelling gameplay loop with the additionally barren map.
So, let's step back. I want to keep the aesthetic of Sinister City, that's a given. But the current idea of the map is bad, and the current game loop is bad. So, instead of building a giant complex city for the player to go gallivanting off through, let's condense it down to a comparatively smaller area. Maybe the industrial district, or even just a handful of buildings. It wouldn't hurt to look to my inspirations for, well, inspiration. Kingpin was from 1999, so of course they couldn't render an entire city. The scale is hinted at through the skyboxes, ominous skyscrapers standing tall on the horizon amidst a fog of pollution and haze, but the maps themselves are mostly boxed in. You never see the whole city; it's either tight alleyways or an area with otherwise clear borders. Not to mention most of the maps are dark and grimy. This would probably be the way to go. Just have veneers of buildings where the map's borders are, and maybe add some sort of fake skyscrapers far out where the player can't clearly make them out. Toppy's Workshop did this sort of thing and it looks pretty convincing, at least, within the confines of that art style.
Tumblr media
I got this image from the GameJolt page. The big spinning buildings and wacky, abstract skyscrapers hint that the world is much larger than it actually is, and I like that way of toying with the player's expectations and knowledge. But anyway, that's just making the map more understandable. I also need to make the game itself playable. And it's really as simple as taking my other ideas for a gameplay loop and putting it into this game. Think of my idea for the Zombie AI. They wander around, and when you're in their view, they begin chase. If you run off, they go back to patrolling. It's simple, and beyond that, it's very applicable to multiple styles of game. It's basically what Overdeath had, but obviously utilised better. So the game will now be a survival horror spooky adventure. You go through the various maps (or maybe one big map, not sure yet), either just getting to the end or doing some arbitrary task (collect 5 items, pull 5 levers, the bread and butter of survival horror). The story will be a secondary objective, a few notes sprinkled throughout the level to give context. I've come up with a sort of idea so far.
Essentially, you've been called in by a panicked worker to the industrial complex. The head scientist's gone mad, shutting off all the exits and making the workers build strange contraptions. Anyone who speaks up is taken away, which seems to coincide with the strange mechanical (?) guards patrolling the halls. You'll have to use your hacking skills (you're a hacker, by the way) to deactivate the mad scientist's systems, freeing the workers and ending his plan. One thing I think could be interesting is having trains to take you through different parts of the facility, so if you're having trouble, you can go to a new area and try your luck before coming back. I want the mad scientist to be more than set dressing, as well. You'll hear his security updates and self-memos over the intercom. You might even face him head-on at the end, though I suspect he'll be more machine than man at that point. I'm also changing why this fits the FMP brief. Like the Zombie game idea, the story of Midas becomes a metatext. Think about Midas, turning his daughter to gold. What if she became the first automaton instead? A being of metal, which could still move and think like a human? Or otherwise, he entombed her soul in gold. The scientist somehow figured out this power, perhaps through technology this time around, and took it upon himself to convert his underlings to new robotic bodies, obviously against their will. Locked up in his private quarters, he engineered a new force of automated workers, injecting them with the souls of his human workers.
Of course, remember the brief: "one thing can appear good at first, but ends up having terrible side effects". The scientist's workers may be obedient and thoughtless, but they are no match for human ingenuity. The unfettered spirit that has propelled us since we were cavemen, the thing that makes us different to, well, robots. It is this that allows our protagonist to shut down the scientist's plans and save the remaining mortal workers. Then on top of that, you have the element of surrealism and illusion that comes with the dark whimsy of the aesthetic. I could even add weaponry. Now this is the system-based game design I like, and strive for. The enemies and the collectibles/levers/arbitrary things can be reused throughout a level, or even multiple levels. I won't waste time making a city that nobody wants to explore, because the maps will be smaller and there'll be an emphasis on exploring to find the things. I could even add in a gun with limited ammunition, further incentivising you to look around.
There's just so many ways this can be done. Much better than having a boring walking simulator spurred on by an uninteresting mystery.

Positioning the Researcher:
My name is Cora. I am a relatively independent person. When I was a child, I used to stay alone and feel the bustle of Nanjing day and night. At that time, I thought it would be great if I could record it all. I remember going on holiday to the west country as a child and buying a colour postcard from a small shop in the countryside. Looking back now, the images look like a fog-stained painting, with all the figures in a soft halo that gives me an unreal feeling. It made me love the world and love life more. I would make photography a hobby in my life, showing the loveliness, confidence, and truth of life, even if I was the only viewer. Until I was 14 years old, I came to New Zealand. After I came here, by chance, I met photography. New Zealand's landscape is quite different from China's, so I often used my camera to record my life.
Over time, I became interested in photography. In this way, I see another wonderful and fascinating world. That is my interpretation of the world. I feel like I am doing an art exhibition. And when I take pictures, each scene was like a painting, one after the other (I had too much imagination). Yet I sometime sat there alone, imagining one distorted picture after another; I was never brave enough to find out the truth. I do not know what this world looks like, and sometimes I even thought, it will never be found out. But it is my world and finding the truth from pictures interests me. When I took a design class in high school, I found that many of the photos I had seen before were photoshopped. I am starting to get confused about real drinking and fake photos. But the authenticity of photos is also related to the design, so I want to study the authenticity of photos.
I have always believed that if a person is very fond of one interest, he/she will be happier when he/she makes satisfactory works. This kind of happiness is obviously happier than the happiness brought by other means. While everyone may see me differently because of some different positions. In my opinion, the pursuit of identification with others and the pursuit of personal happiness can sometimes only be one of them and not both. I think success should pay more attention to self-worth, and the pursuit of self-worth will bring inner happiness and satisfaction.
For me, I always believe that photography is a kind of elegy art. This fragmented picture recording comes from the pity for the destruction of time and the vicissitudes of history. After all, what is presented to people in the form of fragments used to be a complete life and the real past (Maré, 2002). In real fact, it is the nature of people to take words out of context, so they find pleasure in fragmentation. And it is precisely for this natural attraction, that smart and talented photographers will use to freeze their works to enlighten people. This aesthetic level obviously adds ideological components. Therefore, I hope to study the relationship between photographic photos and authenticity as the main theme of my research.
According to the line of thinking, if we record real life, it is called a documentary, or a news report. Photography at this time is the closest to reality (Fleming, 2020). Yet, sometimes, people would rather believe in a blurry picture scene taken by a person with a daily mobile phone than in a painter's vivid picture restoration. Because the painter will deliberately express the points he or she wants to present under the control of individual thoughts, while blurring or ignoring some points that he or she thinks are irrelevant, or even use exaggeration to enlarge the visual centre of gravity. But machines do not. Machines will only record faithfully. From this perspective, people often feel that photography is actually very closely related to reality, or it is a fragmented static record. It is both a faithful and a true record. However, the market for this kind of work is not optimistic, even this kind of work has material proof and timeliness. Once the timeliness has passed, or once there are stronger proof materials (such as video, high-definition cameras, witnesses), the kind of work may be further reduced.
And the real expressions that people often hear are actually very demanding. This is reflected in the truth of thought, or should be said, in the true portrayal of deep excavation and characterization through comparison. The authenticity of the photo has a breath-taking beauty. Because it is an art that comes from life and is higher than life, and it is also another kind of reality that is produced by the photographer's thoughts implanted in the process of photography. The truth is everyone has a wonderful world inside of them which may not exist in the real world. Hence the reality fixed by the photographic technique for the moment has surpassed the "reality" of truth. This exists in the highest realm that photography has to pursue. To this end, the relationship between photos and reality is actually an internal and external relationship. If authenticity is compared to the purity of the human heart, or to the content, then photography is an external carrier, which is used to carry content itself.
