Spurs castaway Juan Foyth just won a World Cup.

Lisandro “Too Short For The Premier League” Martinez just won a World Cup.

5’7” Lionel Messi (my height) just won a a World Cup and is cemented as the GOAT.

Alexis “He Plays For Brighton” Mac Allister just won a World Cup.

Angel Di Maria, considered by some a Manchester United flop, just won a World Cup.

Lionel Scaloni from Pujato, a small town in Santa Fe Province, lost to Liverpool in the FA Cup final when he played for West Ham (I remember that), was only played once in the 2006 World Cup as a player, didn’t even make the shortlist for FIFA’s Best Football Coach award after winning the Copa America against Brazil in 2021, JUST WON A WORLD CUP.

This was the team for second chances, for the people who were written off, underestimated, never given a chance, doubted or were just late bloomers. This was the team for everyone who was ever told they can’t do it because they’re “too this” or “too that,” or because they “haven’t yet” or “never did.” This was the underdogs’ team. 🙌🏾

It's only a small thing, but it's stuck with me: I fucking love Colonel Mace in "Doctor Who". The stuffy, generally nice UNIT military man whom The Doctor was quite dismissive and dickish towards, who got consistently sidelined and belittled as an idiot against the Sontarans, only to have that fucking baller move of approaching the enemy with a pistol, and caling out: "Turn and face me!" to the Sontaran commander who was ignoring him because (despite all their talk of "honorable conquest", funny that) he had deactivated all of the guns they had; who did so promptly to get capped twice in the face by this straight-faced gangster son of a bitch, who survived the episodes and is presumably chilling in order to take the weight off his massive balls. No wonder the lady from "Hellboy" kissed him at the end. Been 16 years and that dude is still my highlight of post-McCoy "Doctor Who". That show's great when it's about ordinary, smaller people steppnig up to do the best thing.

I think the thing that was supposed to be the weakness of the movie, which is a Korean guy and an Indian guy as the leads, turned out to be what made it memorable and what made people dig it. And I think- [applause] Hey, thanks. The characters were underdogs and so were the actors. I think that maybe people like that about the movie and like rooting for the underdogs.
