Bear with me for a second.

When I write, I listen to music to distract the part of my brain that wants to be distracted, but it has to be music I’m so familiar with that I don’t pay actual attention to it, e.g. Iron Maiden and Fall Out Boy.

So, because I’m supposed to be focused on writing, I usually don’t take notice of what song is playing. Not the case at the moment, because I can’t have a moment of peace with this brainrot.

Now, I am likely hallucinating and this might not make sense to anyone else, but.

Twin Skeletons (Hotel in NYC) by Fall Out Boy.

Simon “Ghost” Riley.

Let me explain.

“There's a room in a hotel in New York City / That shares our fate and deserves our pity / I don't want to remember it all / The promises I made if you just hold on.” This makes me think of Manchester, the Riley family home and the gravesites that Ghost doesn’t like to think about. Makes me think about a promise Ghost could make to Johnny about one day being able to share the story with him, and asking him to hold on until he can get to that point.

“I just need enough of you to dull the pain / Just to get me through the night 'til we're twins again / 'Til we're stripped down to our skeletons again.” This makes me think of Simon needing Johnny to help with the pain of his trauma, needing him to help get him through the darkness, until he can be bare and vulnerable about it all.

“A birth and a death on the same day / And honey, I only appeared so I can fade away.” This makes me think of the day Simon died and Ghost was born. The day he showed up at his own grave to say goodbye.

And while spiraling, I found these lyric interpretations and…I’m going to leave the link, but I’ll give you highlights.

“The song talks about how nothing in the world makes sense, how everything in the world is temporary and nothing lasts. But, somehow, with his lover, things make sense. Lying next to his lover and doing absolutely nothing makes sense. The singer also goes on to say that everything in his life makes more sense when he is with his lover.”

“Twin Skeletons lyrics meaning explains the deep desire of the singer to stay with his lover forever. He does not want his lover to be a temporary part of his life. Rather, he wants to lay beside his lover forever even when their life ends and the body turns into a skeleton.”

“In the first line of the verse, the singer or the narrator knows that his lover can act like a drug and take away all his pain. He knows that being with his lover will numb all his problems and help him escape from the hardships of the real world.”
