"Thomas' driver and fireman got along with the local people and married Sundarian women. By 1920 neither one of them wanted to leave Sodor or their beloved engine" You can't tell me these two wouldn't be on demon time, if anything were to happen their little blue tank engine. XD
and anyway they had no job and possibly a prosecution for grand theft awaiting them back home
Thomas's OG crew need more attention tbh. Their IoS backstory is literally just "living every fan's dream." They set the ride-or-die bar. Legends.
And I think TV Series 1 puts some great meat on these characterization bones. I'm too tired to go getting screenshots rn but Thomas's driver really becomes a personality there. The mustache is a great design quirk to make him distinct from the other railwaymen. (It's a shame they failed to use the right lil' wooden dude for "Thomas' Train," which is the story wherein this character gives us one of the funniest bits in the whole season. The way he bounces off a literally bouncy Thomas in this one is hilarious.) Anyway he's such a steady, grounding force for Thomas but especially by the time you get to Ringo's voice for him in the story with the policeman you're like, Oh. Yeah. My man's tired.
Which, valid. Thomas puts him through so much shit. But he would go through the gates of hell for that tank engine.

There really isn’t enough talk about Toad’s Adventure being an amazing fucking episode for James as a character so here we go I’m doing it.
“Thank you very much, sir!” “Call me James.”
This is so fucking important- This whole time Toad acts like he’s a second class citizen, some simple sidekick. Toad calls everyone Mister and sir to be subservient, putting them on a level above himself. But James levels with him, insisting on him just calling him James. He doesn’t want his ego stroked this time. THAT’S SO CUTE WHAT!?
“Actually Oliver, I think you should ask Toad about the adventure he had today.”
Even more important than that, James shows profound empathy here. Toad never had to tell him that he doesn’t feel listened to, doesn’t get to have his own story to tell. He picked it up on his own, especially after the way he treated him himself.
And here’s the fucking kicker. James leaves right after to let TOAD tell the story without him. Not only does he relinquish any and all claim of the spotlight he might have had, but he also gives up control of the narrative. He can’t make himself look good, can’t hide his mistakes. He willingly gives up ‘looking good’ and embraces most likely being painted as the party at fault. None of that matters to him- he wanted Toad to have his moment in the sun. Because HE was the hero of this story, not him.
It’s so fucking profound and wonderful, and speaks volumes of James as a character. More than just praising Toad for his work, he stands up for him and encourages him to have his MomentTM. That’s so fucking good. He’s a GOOD BOY. And more empathetic than people give him credit for. He has a big heart.
Other than that, it was just a really good episode! James and Toad were super funny, and I’m weak for James taking the hill at a dead out run. Very cool very impressive what a noble powerful creature. :]
Hehehe smol. <3
“You? What’s so special about you?” WHEEZE eat shit you’re about to get fucked up by a stick Mr. I Never Have Accidents.
Side note: James looking down at Toad’s brakes when he says they’re strong. What, you suddenly the expert on brakes now, James? Hmm? Stupid cunt <3 Shut up and take the brakevan.
“Oomf!” HAHAHA CRUNCH GOES THE KARMA STICK SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP (affectionate).
And then there was trouble. Poor Toad getting roped into James’ comeuppance. BUT! What I love about the whole affair is James comes running back down the hill, and is immediately taking the blame. “I’m sorry Thomas, I lost my train on the hill!” The way he words it is important, already taking ownership. Straight away he’s trying to make sure everyone is alright, very sincerely concerned and mournful for the trouble he’s caused. Sweetheart!
James very clearly still sure it was his fault regardless of what Toad said and WOW does he feel bad about it. He’s not used to not getting chewed out when he fucks up. ^^^^^^^^
Patting himself on the back for his character growth. Maybe he’ll even get a biscuit. That’s the face of an engine on his way to get a biscuit.

No but it would make so much sense for Henry to be a massive David Attenborough fan like imagine Sir David comes to do a documentary on the Sodor wildlife maybe even the Warbler and Henry is just proper fanboying at the thought of possibly being the engine to tour him around the island but TFC chooses someone else maybe someone who could just care less about Attenborough's work they're just in it for the "important job" and Henry is fuming he ends up tailing the chosen one trying to convince them to go to specific locations but in three strike rule fashion every instance the engines' bickering scares off the wildlife and the filming crew are getting more and more fed up Henry gets scolded and while he's moping around his good birdie pal the Sodor Warbler flitters down onto his buffer almost as if it can sense Henry's sadness and who happens to spot this encounter but David Attenborough himself without alerting the engine he gets the film crew to start recording this incredible interaction between animal and living machine it fascinates him so much so he decides to do a whole episode and Sodor's machines and how they impact everyday life compared to faceless machinery the crew spend a full day with Henry who is just ascending at this point that his idol is taking such an interest in him and even calling him really useful as the cherry on the cake
*pauses to take several deep breath*
And then a couple months later TFC has to try figure out how to lug a tv to the sheds so the engines can see their special air on tv and ofc Henry is the main focus much to the green engine's utter delight.

Hi guys I just wanted to share something with y'allI
idid say this before but I deleted the post but I have plans for creating TTTE Fan Episodes and I just wanna share you one
( @just-a-douglas-simp-existing come take a look at this)
It's actually abt Donald and Douglas. The episode is about them getting nightmares of losing each other. Donald gets a nightmare that he never confronted the spiteful brakevan and Douglas topples over the frickin hill, falling down and dies. And for Douglas, he gets a nightmare that he performed poorly and is going to be sent back, but Donald sacrifices himself takes his place for scrap.
It's implied that they ignored it at first but CLEARLY that isn't doing anything. So, they try to take initiative. Donald tries to stay closer to Douglas and watch over him, and Douglas tries to stray away from Donald and do his jobs for him. Yeah you can see how this doesn't end well. And it goes on for a week or so. The engines already thought it was suspicious enough that Douglas didn't wanna work with Donald but they assumed it was bcus they had some fight or whatever.
Anyway the problem gets worse when snow comes around and they have to work separately. Yeah and no shet there was a blizzard and Donald has an accident and gets lost in the fookin snow. And now Douglas is worried as shet and regrets all his decisions..Well obviously Donald is saved and the twins have a heart to heart moment at the steamworks and they're finally telling each other EVERYTHING. Then it's like— the first time the twins cry in years. Bill, Ben and the Fat Controller just look and the clay twins just look at TFC and say "Sir, I think you need to do what you must," "what is it?" "bring them to therapy."
and he does. There may be a few hiccups but the twins are slowly being more honest with each other now :⟩
I made this episode for different reasons. First of all, most of the episodes Mattel and HiT gives us Abt the twins is them fighting and fighTING aND FIGHTING GOSH ITS SO BORING AND UNENTERTAINING!! ITS THE SAME THING EVERY EPISODE GIVE US SOMETHING NEW— so I did.
Second of all, self projection. It's not quite often but there are times where I regret not being and older sibling to my siblings and there are things I wished I didn't do to them. So now I'm the responsible one out of them. But, when it's comes to schoolwork, I think my sister is just plain out annoyed with me cus sometimes it's like she does all the homework for me and I just...follow. I feel the to become independent from her. I could talk to her Abt this cus sometimes she just gives me the answers even when I don't ask for it, but I'm too ashamed of myself. This doesn't really happen anymore but I still feel guilty.
Now, last of all, it's because of the thing that made Donald and Douglas special to me. You see, in most media, identical twins are utilized for fun comedy and shenanigans. They're like, the jokesters of the group. But then there's these two. While Awdry was writing them, instead of making a story about two, silly and mischievous twins and there shenanigans, it's about hard-working, no-nonsense twins who enjoy mischief at times, but would do ANYTHING to keep the other alive, even if it means DYING. It's a fresh new breath of air for someone like me (i have a twin).
So yeah I mixed this shet up and got "Lost In A Blizzard".
Okie thas all leave your thoughts in reblogs

Happy Birthday, Sir!
I know some people don't care for the CGI stuff, but this episode just feels like such a strong one.
I get the feeling this ones been talked about to death, but I can't help myself mentioning it.
Everyone has to have seen this episode at least once by now, but if you haven't it's called 'Happy Birthday, Sir!'
I love this one specifically because theres a flashback sequence in it when the Fat Controller and Edward were younger. Someone dared to add layers to side characters, give them a raise.
Why this episode sticks with me -
The Fat Controller is a very busy man, but every year on his birthday he always makes time to ride in his special carriage and visit the stations with Edward.
When Thomas and Winston hear the story they're just so enraptured by it, even Cranky stops to listen in.
The older engine begins to reminisce.
"He loved riding in that carriage. I remember his smile, it would light up the sky " - Edward CGI.
I like to think that Edward's happiest moments of those he shares with others. So this feels very special.
The thing is though.
We don't know exactly why the carriage means as much as it does, other than the fact that he just likes going for rides in it on his birthday.
I think.
It's a family tradition that he wants to keep going, one that he might have shared with his father.
Every year his father would take him out in the open topped carriage and they'd tour the island to see the sights. It's all very Lion King.
---
"Look, Bertrum. Everything the rail touches is our kingdom."
"Even Misty Island?"
"Let's just try to enjoy the carriage ride."
---
The railway is his father's legacy.
It's reassuring for him to know that everything his father worked so hard for is still going to plan. No confusion or delay.
And even when things aren't quite going to plan and change is overbearing, Edward is more than enough of a reassuring prescence.
When you take up the mantle of The Fat Controller, you know you have big shoes to fill.

What moment in ttte made you shocked?
Idk man ttte isn't a very shocking show. It's incredibly down to earth, if a bit real with some of its stories. While yes some of the earlier episodes and especially the books can branch onto more serious and arguably darker content its nothing that would really shock me per se.
Nothing really shocks me, it just makes me think. Maybe be a bit sad or feel for the characters. But that's what any good story does.

'Now you know the damage trucks can do.' 'Yes I do, sir,' replied Oliver. 'I look like a—a load of scrap iron, sir.'
The context makes it 😭 . I mean, Oliver’s state of mind here...
I am sure that Awdry meant all of the psychological hell that this comment implies, and that the Fat Controller sees it, because he ceases lambasting Oliver after this little line.

TTTE Headcanons: Engines’ TV Habits
This is pretty goofy, but I’m thinking about what sorts of TV the engines might watch if they had a TV or a streaming device in their sheds. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far!
—————————————
Henry loves nature shows, of course. In addition, after his fireman lamented his spilt hot cocoa, he wanted to understand why humans care so much about food. This led him to cooking shows, which he found very relaxing. He likes to watch raw, disparate ingredients become something beautiful and complete.
Edward goes for mysteries — lighter, cozier shows like Midsomer Murders, Rosemary & Thyme, and Murder, She Wrote. He’s also a fan of Granada Studios’ 1984 Sherlock Holmes. It tickles the same part of him that enjoys ghost stories, giving him a slight thrill alongside a pleasing mind-teaser.
Gordon watches the news every morning and evening. He likes to feel up-to-date on important events, expounding on them to his colleagues. Any program about opera and orchestral performances also appeals to him. There’s some snobbery involved, but he does enjoy hearing and learning about musical genres.
James likes game and talent shows, often shouting answers and opinions at the TV. He’s so attuned to these shows’ editing that he’ll guess a season winner, set up a betting pool, and rake in all the favors after the finale with a smug grin. (Gordon and Henry only keep placing bets because they want to show him up someday.)
All three big engines indulge in the guilty pleasure of soap operas. They think nobody else knows about this. Pip and Emma “obliviously” intrude on their watch parties to make them squirm.
Thomas and Percy watch ghost hunting shows together. They scoff at the idea of ghosts, accuse each other of being ‘fraidy-cats, and huddle close in fear as an episode progresses. They also watch late-night airings of schlocky films with Toby, whose sly commentary cracks them all up.
On his own, Thomas watches motorsport broadcasts. Bertie hooked him on it not long after they started racing each other. He’s a fan of some F1 drivers and their cars, often comparing notes with Bertie in serious (and sometimes heated) discussions.
Percy has a soft spot for period dramas. He’ll laugh at historical inaccuracies, get invested in all the characters, and ponder common tropes. He’s not afraid to ask about the servants who have to endure the wealthy protagonists’ dramatics.
Toby doesn’t watch much TV outside of what he sees with Thomas and Percy. However, he and Henrietta are partial to some late-night talk shows. If the show’s interviewing someone they’re interested in, or if they think the host is funny, they’ll give an episode a try.
Duck adores How It’s Made. It’s very satisfying for him to watch a bunch of moving parts at work, slotting pieces into their rightful places to assemble something. Other nights, he watches travel shows. They explore locations all around the world, scratching his itch to see what’s beyond his horizon.
Donald watches stand-up comedy specials, going for a good laugh at the end of the day to decompress. Ever since Duck “gifted” him Dilly, he also watches nature programs and shows about training/caring for pets. (He and Dilly are working on some tricks.)
Oliver picks sci-fi shows, with Star Trek and Doctor Who as his favorites. He’s drawn in by the pulpy adventures, moral dilemmas, and complex protagonists. It all makes him feel better about himself: you can mess up on an astronomical scale, but still be capable of good things. You don’t have to be a perfect hero to be a good person.
Douglas enjoys shows about antiques and vintage items — things in the vein of Antique Roadshow, or American Pickers. He’s a sucker for knickknacks that meant something to someone, for all the stories behind each one, and for their loving restorations.
Bill and Ben think fitness shows are hysterical. They’re forever amused by the odd ways the instructors contort their bodies. But they also scheme for their crews to watch these shows, hoping they’ll participate and stay healthy for years to come.
Daisy’ll watch any program about fashion or body art (tattoos, piercings, etc). Being so attentive to her swerves, she’s curious about the ways that humans adorn themselves. She’ll sometimes take inspiration from what she sees, but she’ll always argue that fashion is an art form, pointing to these shows for examples.
——————————————
What are your guys’ thoughts/headcanons? I’d love to hear them!

Currently watching season 2 of TTTE, and like, I don’t get why in some old Internet fan media, Sir Topham hat is portrayed to be rude and careless towards his engines. Like- I’m watching the episode where he has to make a decision to send Douglas or Donald away- and Percy goes up to him nervously to lie about why he shouldn’t send them away. Topham looks so fondly at his engines; you can tell that he loves them, even though he might scold them for things that are out of their control.
A couple episodes before that- it’s the episode where Diesel spreads lies that Duck is talking crap about the steam team. When Gordon said that duck called him “a galloping sausage” and I forgot what James was called; but oh my gosh the fact that Topham had to stop himself from laughing is just pure adorable! He already knew Duck won’t spread those kinds of remarks and he has a sense of humor!
Sir Topham Hatt needs more love in the fandom 💕 he’s so charming in season 2

Musical Musings - TTTE edition, Part 2
ALRIGHT!
My first musical analysis post has been getting a LOT of attention in the past few days or so. So first off, thank you for the love everyone, that was one of my favourite posts to make (besides the crackhead Gordon and Henry shitpost and my "Emily in the middle" rant). Second, since it appears that people like this sorta thing, I figured I'd share a couple more things that I've noticed, one of which I didn't put in the first post cause I figured people had already noticed it so it didn't need to be said. But I think I'll put it in anyways, just because. So let's get into it!
In pt. 1, I talked about the fact that Henry's theme has an occurrence of "3," in that each of the 4 beats in a bar was a triplet, and how Henry is the number 3 engine. Well, I was listening to his theme again and found two more occurrences of "3" in the introductory bars of the theme. For reference, I am talking about this part:
Each bar has the following rhythm:
Now, the first occurrence of 3 comes from the fact that the first 3 beats have the same rhythm, as shown in the above image. The second occurrence of 3 comes from the fact that the last beat of the bar is a triplet. 3 notes. Tack on the first occurrence of 3 from the first post, and you're 3 for 3 for NWR no. 3. HMMM........
2. Continuing with the subject of Henry's theme, this observation has probably already been made several times over, but I figured I'd put it in to continue the "Henry's theme" trend. If you take a listen to Henry's sad theme, you'll notice that its repeating motif is part of Henry's main theme in a different, minor, key with a different rhythm and at a slower tempo.
Take a listen.
The opening fragment of Henry's main theme:
The main motif of Henry's sad theme:
And in sheet music:
Henry's theme (Eb major):
Henry's sad theme (B minor):
The numbers indicate the note's position within its scale. As you can see, both themes share the same note pattern. To get Henry's sad theme, you'd transpose the theme down a diminished 4th (i.e, move the notes down by this interval) to B major, and then adjust the D# and G# in the resulting melody to D natural and G natural to fit within the B minor scale so that it sounds sad. Nice job, Mike & Junior, very clever.
Just in case anyone is confused, the notes for the B major & minor scales are shown below:
3. Donald and Douglas' CGI whistles are the notes of C and A respectively. These notes are related in a couple of ways. The first/lowest note on a standard 88-key piano is an A, and the last/highest note is a C. Given the twins' original BR numbers (57646 & 57647 respectively), it appears that Douglas is the younger of the two, so their whistle notes make sense in this context. Additionally, as mentioned in pt. 1, the keys of C major and A minor are related in that they share a key signature of no accidentals (ie, no sharps, flats, double sharps or double flats, yes those last two exist and they gave me hell as a kid). Thus, the whistle notes would make sense in this context.
You'll often see modulation from either C major to A minor or vice versa in classical music. Two contrasting, yet complimentary keys with their own characters and personalities which work well together. Just like Donald and Douglas.
4. I was rewatching some of the season 7 episodes which have Arthur in them. And I think I kinda forgot how fucking huge this guy is. I also noticed just how low his whistle is in comparison to the other tank engines, perhaps emphasizing his bigger size and his more serious attitude in comparison to them.
Whew, this was a long post. I hope you guys enjoy this post as much as you did the last one.
