I’m dreaming of adventures and traveling across the ocean…In reality, I have way too many phobias to ever undertake such a journey😢 Luckily, there are books about things I might never do in my life. Like this one by Michael Ondaatje, through which I can experience the excitement of traveling alone across the blue vastness, the fear of being tied up to the deck in a storm. I’ll meet a bunch of strangers that will tell me their secrets and keep their mysteries to themselves. I’ll make lifelong friends the way children do so easily and go and live my life with those memories. #bookstagram #bookstagrammers #instabooks #instabookstagram #whattoread #whattoreadnext #michaelondaatje #thecatstable #comingofagestory #historicalfictionbooks #canadianliterature #canadianauthors #travellingwithbooks (at Tallinn, Estonia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRoP_OHLqc7/?utm_medium=tumblr

Since I heard about Amish's first non-fiction - Immortal India, I've been excited about it. Thanks @westland_books for sending me a copy. . A collection of articles interviews and speeches, Immortal India is a 188 page book, sectioned into 4 parts - Religion & Mythology, Social Issues, History, Musings. . I picked Immortal India to take along for our 2 day Gulbarga trip because of its size and short story type format. It was an excellent choice, I've had an enjoyable two days reading and pondering the ideas @authorAmish puts forward. . His ideas about Religious Liberalism and why it’s the way forward rather than Religious Extremism of any kind were thought provoking. I’d not seen things or thought of them that way before. . In another article he explores our discomfort with differences being the reason for inter-religion conflict. It being the reason why we keep trying to prove 'we are all the same’, ‘all religions are the same’ rather than accept we are all different and yet all ok. . I’m not a fan of Lord Ram, for a lot of the reasons stated by many others, so when I started reading Amish’s piece on him, I was shifty, I wasn’t sure if I should read or skip the article. I’m glad I did, for the piece got me to stop for a moment and reassess Ram by all he was and not just by what he did to Sita. After all like Amish points out, families of all ideal-striving men suffered, look at Gandhi and Buddha. . I am only halfway through the book, so a full review will maybe follow later. For now the ideas Amish is putting forward through 'Immortal India’ have caught my eye and mind, and I'm enjoying the book. Aside: It’s gotten a bit heavy though, so I’ve picked up a read-along, The Jeera Packer by @pr_ashantYadav. It’s turning out to be a good foil for Amish’s book. :D . #LifeasFreya #readinglife #immortalindia #nonfiction #amish #westland #travellingwithbooks #mythology #religiousliberalism #booklover #flatlay #bookstagramindia #hotelrooms #bookandbreakfast #fbpage http://ift.tt/2xlxJ05
