Sunday Snippet

Thanks for the tag @therealgchu and @fangbangerghoul I tag the usual crew who'll see this as well as anyone else who'd like to share something they are working on.

This is from the next chapter of Chasing Your Star Until I reach Home

The final click signalled the door unlock and Seren ran inside to the computer as one security bot rounded on the stairs, firing off a round that pinged off her suit and pushed her forward to the console. She slammed the buttons, feeling the machines bearing down on her and it pinged they were now protecting her not a second too soon as she looked up to see one looming over her, suddenly turn away to leave the room. The loading bay erupted into noise as the machines turned on the two Starborn, who ran to cover as laser and bullets flew from every direction towards them. Seren ran out of the control room, her Inflictor at the ready and took a careful aimed shot at Teutra, taking them out as their body was pummelled with laser fire from a nearby turret, but stumbled as she felt another Supernova envelope the area she was standing in. Rinn, had jumped down from their hiding spot to try and get to the control room themselves, to return the machines back to their control. Seren shot a sunless space at the Starborn, but it missed, the enemy dodging the waves and robot bullet storm to run for the stairs. They had almost reached the top of the stairs when at that moment, their body was thrown forward by a shot directly at the head from where Ren and Sam had been hiding. Seren looked out after seeing the Starborn explode into cosmic light to see Ren resting her elbows on a crate, her sniper rifle smoking from the shot she’d taken. The two came out of cover as the room calmed and jogged quickly to her, dodging the now patrolling robots who rumbled their warning to keep out of their way. Grabbing the next key as she got back to her feet, Seren looked up in dismay as Ren and Sam joined her. "What did I say about staying in cover?” "We figured with the robots turned against those two, one of them might try to get back to the computer and you could do with a hand.” Sam shrugged, yanking out ammo from a downed robot. "I had it covered. What if Rinn had turned on you instead?, sent a supernova your way?” Seren’s voiced raised in exasperation. The effect of the supernova wearing off on her own body which had gotten used to the pain and life drain. She’d inject something once she’d got moving again, but these two were still human…still fragile in ways she wasn’t any more. Her voice trembled from the effort which wasn’t lost on Ren who pulled out a traumakit and offered it to Seren. Trust her counterpart to know she was hiding the pain. ”You looked like you needed help and we were in cover, far enough away we felt that Starborn couldn’t get to us in time, what with all the covering fire. We saw you drop with the second energy wave and if that Rinn had got the robots again, we might have lost…this... You.”

Continuing with National Preparedness Month covering First Aid Kits: If you own a first aid kit, it’s a great idea to inspect them every six months. Inspecting them at the beginning and half way through the year helps keep you up to date on meds, Over The Counter (OTC) meds, equipment, supplies, gloves if they need to be replace due to expiration or no longer serviceable. Any items considered no longer safe for use such as gauze, tourniquets, etc can be used for training purposes once replaced. Better to be safe and know before needing it and you can’t use it. The kit on the left is my @maglitetactical backpack made by @bdstacticalgear for range training, hunting, off-roading convoys and road trips.
