The struggle to protect black girls and women remains. Unfortunately, black women remain vulnerable to sexual violence due to what we call intersectionality, the systematic oppression black women experience based upon their race and gender. These institutionalized practices and policies prevent their equitable enforcement. Because of what is known as the “Strong Black Woman” archetype (Beauboeuf-Lafontant, 2009), the dangerous single story told about black women that uplifts their strength, perseverance and survival and minimizes their emotional well-being, tenderness and humanity, black women are rarely protected. In fact, black women are rarely protected while. How can you help? #Become an informed ally. #Learn more about the relationship between colonialism and sexual violence. Consider reading more books by black women scholars who are writing about the daily lived experiences of black women, including sexual violence. #CiteBlackWomen is a good start. Center black women in your advocacy. #Contact your elected officials and share this data. Ask them what they are doing specifically to improve the sexual violence experienced by black women. It may be helpful to explain how institutions contribute to gendered racism. Ask them to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. #Support organizations that work on behalf of black women in your area. This may require you doing some research, talking with black women and allowing them to tell you what they need. Black women should not be the forgotten survivors of sexual violence. FUNDRAISER UPDATE #1

Hey everybody.

Here at trunk we sincerely hope that you're all doing well during these unprecedented times. We hope that you're each following your countries specialist advice, staying home, distancing yourselves and ensuring that you're not placing yourself in unnecessary danger. We are all in this together, and if we work together as a planet, we WILL defeat this virus and life WILL get back to normal sooner, rather than later.

As you're aware, over the last couple of weeks, we've been running several campaigns in an attempt to help feed some of the elephants we are committed to caring for in camps and sanctuaries in northern Thailand.

So far it's been going very well. We've raised almost £1,500 ($1,850) and this is now beginning to be distributed to the camps and sanctuaries and is making a difference to the daily lives of the elephants and their mahouts.

Of course, there is an entire chain of people that are directly connected to the impact of the lack of income for these animals. Their handlers (mahouts) and their families are equally affected. The owners of the camps and their families, the food chain and their workers, the health care services (for the elephants) and more. Many, many people are directly impacted by the lack of income due to the complete stop in travellers arriving to support the elephants.

To give you an idea of the operational costs faced by these camps, we have outlined the immediate and most important costs that we are doing everything we can to cover.

The monthly costs for the 9 elephants at, what we'll call 'camp 1', are as follows;

Food for the elephants - 90,000THB - £2,221 ($2,725) Delivery trucks - 60,000B - £1,480 ($1,816) Elephant health checks - 10,000B - £246 ($302) Meals for the mahouts - 10,000B - £246 ($302) Mahouts living expenses - 47,500B - £1,175 ($1,440)

TOTAL MONTHLY COST - £5,368 ($6,585)

And this is for ONLY 9 ELEPHANTS!

Our immediate aim is to feed the elephants and keep regular health checks, so we need to raise at least £3,947 ($4,843)
