idk if you guys know lauren singer but she's a climate change activist who does zero waste and like im the politician, infinity jackson does almost everything lauren has done like the zero waste mason jars, and the bulk grocery shopping but a little too extreme especially at the part that they did the leftover water.

this is taken from lauren's instagram story (trashisfortossers). idk i just think the writing was lazy and they just copied of her and they didn't ask for compensation! I know she thinks it's cool but i just think its just plagiarism somehow.

Not only is that expensive, it's also causing a huge amount of energy and resource to be spent on new things. Look at what you already have, and what your other food comes in. Can you reuse any of it? Could it be reimagined as something else? We reuse all kinds of packaging, from pickle jars to wine bottles, and occasionally plastic containers from margarine and ice cream that make their way into the house. A couple years ago, I read a book called Garbology, which focused on the amount of waste that is created by us (humans) and it’s effect on climate change. It made me sad, but also motivated. I wanted to reduce the amount of waste I created on a daily basis. That is when I found Trash is for Tossers, Lauren Singer, and her store the Package Free shop.

I just bought a few more items to replace the plastic that eventually gets thrown out: ziploc bags, which I am switching out for Stasher silicone bags, and foil, which I am switching out with vegan food wraps. I am DEFINITELY not at a zero waste stage (Some people, like Lauren, keep all the waste they have in a JAR). I still use tissue paper and I still buy food items that are wrapped/packaged in plastic. But I figure, a little can go a long way and hopefully also save me some money.

I don’t think I will ever hit a zero waste stage, but I do want to be more thoughtful and keep it in mind each purchase I make, what impact it makes, where was it made, and if I am supporting a small business and a bigger cause at hand.

In other words, just trying to be a environmentally/socially conscious human being!

Lauren Singer has an Environmental Studies and she has always been interested in the environment, but made the conscious decision to live Zero Waste in 2012 when a fellow Environmental Studies classmate would bring lunch to class every week in a single use plastic bag, a disposable water bottle, and a plastic takeout container. She said "I would sit there and think, we are supposed to be the future of this planet and here we are with our trash, messing it up." She learned about Bea Johnson (https://zerowastehome.com), a woman in California who was producing little to no garbage. That is when she decided that she has to live like she loved the environment. At Trash is for Tossers (http://trashisfortossers.com), her blog, she documents her journey, proving that leading a zero waste lifestyle is simple, cost-effective, timely, fun and entirely possible for everyone and anyone. What brought my attention to her was the fact that she also has this great shop in NYC called The Package Free Shop (https://packagefreeshop.com) where she sells everything that we need to transition to a low waste lifestyle. I find we go though a lot of tooth paste and with each tube of tooth paste we have a cardboard box and a plastic tube. Not to mention commercial tooth paste has a tonne of chemicals. So I did some research and found a lot of people that make their own! This cuts back on not only single use plastics, card board, unnecessary chemicals but it’s also easy on the wallet 🙌🏻 I love how clean my teeth and gums feel after using it and even the hubby and kids approve!
