THE PROMPTS FOR TSME WEEK ARE OUT!

We are now some 2.5 months away from the 10th anniversary for the airing of the Strongest Mega Evolution Act I. I am excited!

Prompts for the week:

Day 1 - April 3rd: Anniversary / Pokémon Catching Day 2 - April 4th: First Time / Miare (Lumiose City) / Dragon Day 3 - April 5th: Mission / Family / Break Day 4 - April 6th: Hoenn / Mask / Release Day 5 - April 7th: Trip / Dark / AU Day 6 - April 8th: Love / Memorabilia / Legend Day 7 - April 9th: FREE DAY

1) How to participate?

Pick the prompt that you like best for each day of the week, create a fanwork for it and post it on tumblr, tagging #tsmeweek2024 or #tsme10thanniversary! You can also pick several prompts for one day to combine, or mix prompts from different days, as you wish. You can switch days up as well! Go wild! All forms of fanworks are accepted! Fanarts, crafts, fanfic of any lengths, cosplays... Pick the medium you prefer! Prompts can be interpreted however you want. If you pick "Miare" and want to depict an alternate ending for the Flare Crisis where everyone dies, go for it! Creativity is welcomed! Does "Break" mean "mental breakdown", "take a coffee break" or "break.....fast"? Up to you! Don't worry about having to participate every day of the week. Just do what you can! Once you publish a fanwork, don't forget to tag #tsmeweek2024 or #tsme10thanniversary! Those are the tags that will be scoured to be reblogged on this blog.

2) Does PokéAni XY&Z count? What counts as TSME?

The rules are lax. The XY&Z season of PokéAni definitely counts, as TSME characters played a very important role in it. So does the World Championships in Journeys, since Alan appeared in it. As a basic principle, so long as it involves a character that appeared in Act I-IV of TSME, it counts as TSME. So yes, you can absolutely create a fanwork about Daigo/Steven exploring Hoenn with Shouta/Sawyer, or Pachira/Malva dating Carnet/Diantha if your heart desires. You can also create fanworks with TSME characters and characters they never interacted with in canon!

3) Other rules

This blog will have ship art and will accept any ship. Do not harrass people over ships. Racy pieces or pieces with content warnings will be accepted on the blog and tagged with a "n/sfw" tag and "cw" tag. For viewers who do not want to risk seeing any such pieces, you can block these 2 tags. As an artist with a n/sfw or cw piece, please help making the blog friendly for all, by putting the full art under a preview and read-for-more. Please tag the full cw as well!

4) Like The Mega Evolution Specials, but don't know what to make?

I missed most of TSME week, as I'm busy and can't stick to these schedules, but I absolutely couldn't pass up the chance to draw one of my most enduring and very canon* otps for TSME Day 6: Love. Please accept this very quick drawing!

(*At least one-sidedly in the original, in as much as protagonist ships can be canon in Pokemon, aha--Manon bluntly tells Alan he's her type during their first meeting, even awful Fleurdelys even calls her Alan's "unusually tiny girlfriend," as well as implying she's the "seed of doubt" planted into Alan threatening his plans... and albeit in a platonic way, dub Alain calls Mairin, Chespie, and Professor Sycamore the ones he loves ^^)

They're adorable, funny, heartbreaking, endearing, and I think they'd be super cute as a couple when they're older. ^^

(Mind the rules for the event, respect other folks' ships, the block button's free, etc.)

Better late than never, right? I saw that at least @runawaycarouselhorse was expecting more Marisson in this event, so here you have it! And yes, they're both adults here. Alain's orange&yellow clothes are a callback to his clothes in the Sycamore lab flashbacks. And yes, Mairin/Manon has a key stone in her necklace.

The anime made me like Lysandre as a character. In the games, I always had a problem with how obvious he was for the "twist reveal", like it's any surprise he's a genocidal madman when he's been going off on these weird tangents about beauty and human filth the entire game, even while characters like Diantha and Sycamore never really reacted to it.

I really appreciated it when the anime played him a lot more subtly when he's around Alain and Mairin. The closest we get to any misanthropic views is him saying people would use Sycamore's research for evil purposes if he were to publish what they unearthed, that it's in line with human history, but I'd say it's a valid concern.

He came off as a stern, but seemingly-friendly guy in his interactions with them. (Him teasing Alain and Mairin was so unexpected, plus the way he bends down to talk to Mairin kinda makes me think of how the XY protagonist bends down to talk with small kids, tho I don't think that's intentional. And while he does make it clear to Alain that he doesn't have time for weakness--which yeah, fair, they're getting involved in all these high-level battles--, he seems pretty proud of Alain when he defeats Malva.)

It makes his later reveal as a villain all the more shocking, at least from their perspective. Could you imagine what's going thru Alain's head realizing what Lysandre's vision of peace meant? That people were probably dying from the corrupted Zygarde's attack on Lumiose, and it's at least partially his fault for helping Lysandre, even tho he had no idea about his true motives? That was such a brutal stab in the back for the anime.

I also really love how persistent he is, as a villain. It took the efforts of every single relevant character, a good chunk of them using Megas, and the final form of a Legendary to finally put a stop to him and his Megalith Zygarde. The Kalos Crisis arc is by far the best villain arc in the series, and Lysandre's the best written of the anime's villains. They did him so much justice that the games never could.

How about... your favorite pokeani ship and your favorite pokespe ship for the ask?

Took me a bit to answer this one because I really had to sit down and think about what my favorite pokeani and pokespe ships are, but I finally came to a decision!

MarissonShipping

The ship is my: OTP! I can't imagine Alain or Mairin dating anyone else.

I consider this ship’s feelings: Mutual! I mean, Alain's entire motivation for the XYZ saga is literally to see Mairin smile again. And she clearly worries about Alain a lot when he's in danger and enjoys spending time with him and trusts him - it's just so sweet to see how much these two care about each other.

I’d consider the relationship: Definitely Awkward at first; they're horrible at communicating with each other and that'd inevitably lead to conflict and tension. But I think it'd become Healthy once they learn to talk out their problems and trust each other!

Children: No. I think Alain will inherit the position of regional professor once Professor Sycamore retires, with Mairin helping him, and they'll be too busy with lab work to raise kids - giving starter Pokémon to fledgling Trainers is satisfying enough for them.

General Opinion: This is the best ship Pokéani has ever given us. Their dynamic is so good - full of conflict that makes for an interesting story, but not so strained that it's impossible to believe they'll get together. Most relationships in the anime, especially the ones involving the kids, don't show them having a super strong emotional connection, or if there is it's pretty one-sided (see: any character who cares about Ash). But with Alain and Mairin, you don't have to read much into it to realize that they both care deeply about each other, and it's just a matter of whether you read that as platonic or romantic affection.

DeliveryShipping

The ship is my: endgame pair! I like some rarer ships for these two (I've even written a Moon/Hau and a Sun/Acerola fic before), but at the end of the day I think they're the best for each other and they're the Spe couple I most want to end up together.

I consider this ship’s feelings: Mutual! They may bicker or make snide comments about each other from time to time, but when it comes down to it they trust each other and care about each other. There's a reason why Sun always asks Moon to fix him up and Moon always does it for free without complaint, and it's not because Moon comes from a rich family.

I’d consider the relationship: Fairly Healthy! Canon may not have shown them to be very close after the timeskip, but I think they must have learned to understand each other really well considering that they were stuck with only each other for company for six months. They might have issues with communication at first, but what relationship doesn't? Moon's pretty no-nonsense and will work to resolve any issues that arise between them quickly.

Children: Yes, I think they'd have kids eventually. I even made a couple Delivery fankids once upon a time...

General Opinion: Does canon support the idea that they're romantically interested in each other? No, absolutely not. Is that going to stop me from envisioning their potential and shipping them? Of course not! They're two of my favorite characters in Pokéspe, they have a great dynamic, and I love writing fics about them. My favorite romantic ship in Spe by a long shot!

On 3 April 2014: Act I of the Strongest Mega Evolution (TSME), also known as the Mega Evolution Specials, aired in Japan and introduced us to the adventures of Alan, Manon/Mairin, Lizardon/Charizard and Hari-san/Chespie, beloved characters who defined the final arc of the Pokémon XY&Z anime. 3 April 2024 will mark the 10th anniversary of Act I! 10 years is a special number. In celebration, join in from 3 APRIL to 9 APRIL 2024 for a week dedicated to loving TSME, where art and writing in any form is welcome! The prompts will be released in January, leaving 2 months and a half for everyone to prepare something. The guidelines on how to participate will also be included. TSME WEEK 2024 Day 3 prompt: "Mission" (G-Man Mission!)

Manon and Hari-san try out many things...including becoming a G-Man and G-Mon, following Wataru's footsteps...or not. Maybe not. Maybe they're not okay with this.
