Been messing with my shelving again so All my Pink Deluxe and larger Arcee's (Plus a few Elita Ones), both official and 3rd party. I put the blue and legends scale Arcee's on a different shelf. :D Honestly my favourite official ones are Animated Arcee as it's got the best transformation out of any of them, and the masterpiece (for all its flaws) its just such an expressive figure.
Binaltech is the worst official one in my opinion I'm happy to have it but l, the transformation is fiddly and unsatisfying and the robot mode just looks weirdly miss-proportioned (even if you're going for a more masculine looking body), the legs look too short for the torso and the arms are massive (it looks like a troll from lord of the rings honestly). Mine was second hand and yellowed when I bought it, but that's kinda inevitable on an older figure.
After a decade my Arcee collections pretty much completed now (except for new Arcee toys), I have a version of all the official moulds -except for the authentics one because for a budget figure it costs an absurd amount to import and obscure botcon or other exclusive releases. And the only other 3p one I'm interested in is the old iGear one.
I've no interest in the Fanstoys one, which is probably the most popular 3p Arcee, because it looks really off model to me, and the effed up marketing they decided to use just me off that figure for good!
(Yeah big Fire bird Nicee was a bit tasteless, but fanstoys with rapey Springer was just gross 🤢 )
So I’ve been seeing meme redraws of Shining Armor and Princess Cadence as of late and I was like “Fuck it, why not draw ponies again.” I had fun drawing them (especially the crystal effects I gave their horns and Cadence’s wings)
I also experimented with my artstyle a bit (trying to go for more of an anglar style and having more simplistic shading). I know it’s subdle, but I like how it turned out (I’m definitely going to experiment more with that)
Do not judge this book by its cover! Despite what the name would suggest, this is not a comprehensive encyclopedic volume that encompasses insect knowledge related to matters like species, classification, diets, orders and general factoids. No, no, this is a different branch in the world of insect exploration. The passages, stories and analysis of 'Insectopedia' are more philosophical, anthropological (based on human society and culture) rather than locked into a box of science and research (though they do play a big part of this book). Compared to the previous literature showcase, 'Sting of the Wild', this book is far more unconventional and explores a wider range of topics, but having read it twice now, I think it offers something that very few other works can. It's one thing to outline insect facts, research, discoveries and their place in the world; it's another thing entirely to examine how insects impact the world & humanity, how humanity impacts insects, how cultures, traditions and ideas can be shaped through our hexapod friends. This book embraces the eclectic and shares it as a multitude of essays and stories that truly highlight how curiosity and fascination can develop into passions, discoveries, introspections, livelihoods and in some cases, obsessions. This collection of musings and insight is also reinforced by a citation heavy note section and bibliography and countless anecdotes across 26 chapters (named alphabetically).
In a sense, it resonates like a collection of short stories or a scientific journal publishing with a great scope of content and findings to comb through. My personal favorite chapters are the ones on 'Languages' (see Picture 5) and the 'O' chapter (not pictured), which deserves to be experienced fresh. All I'll leave you with is the name of that chapter, 'On January 8, 2008, Abdou Mahamane Was Driving through Niamey...". Both are among the longest chapters this work has to offer, but there are many more bite-sized chapters that offer stories that are short and sweet. There's little to no connectivity between each chapter and though the material may bounce back and forth wildly and some chapters barely reference insects (though nature is still an important focus), reading earlier chapters will likely reinforce appreciation for the subject material in the later sections. All that said, I think this book would be best recommended for those entering high school or university and to those who like their material dry and matter-of-fact, but also engaging (somewhat like a passionate lecture). Once again, the subject matter is the onus for a small age-gate or maturity-gate for this book, but it is a small gate. In particular, chapters C, J, Q and S are intended for more mature readers, but if you can understand and handle the subject matter, great knowledge will be your reward (for example, Chapter 'C' is 'Chernobyl', featuring a woman who examines radiation-induced insect deformities).
I know I've been somewhat vague on the exact information that can be gleamed from Insectopedia, but this is a deliberate choice. The material in this book should be read with an open mind and there shouldn't be any spoiled surprises for the journeys and insights discussed from cover to cover. If you seek examples for the type of material this book has to offer, Pictures 3-9 offer the tiniest gate to sample what Insectopedia can offer (and as prefaced at the beginning of the book, "The minuscule, a narrow gate, opens up an entire world" - Gaston Bachelard). You will not find identification guides in it nor will you find ways to distinguish one insect order from another, but it may grant some enlightenment or stir passion, discussion or a curiosity to further explore the ideas presented within and how they've evolved since the book's publishing in 2010. This may provide a great starting point for any students in need of a thesis topic! I suppose Picture 10 (presented by the Knight and a glow-in-the-dark Caterpillar) summarizes it far better than I could. I may have expected something more conventional in the beginning, I am definitely recommending this book and I'll be reading it again after I explore some of the papers within the bibliography. For me, this was the surprise of the year, and while there are times where I think it may be to eclectic (nearing "all over the place"), I was exposed to many new areas of study and I appreciate the stories and points of view I would never have heard had I stuck to only the usual material.

oops, got myself thinking again about byan having a little hoard of weird and random trinkets and shiny things hidden away under their bed in the same way that some cats have collections of bottle caps under furniture.
like, none of it is particularly meaningful and they don't wear any of the jewelry that's under there, but they like to pull it all out once in a while to look at and are always adding more
i collect collections. over time i find new things to collect and then after a while i move on. one was a rubber collection. then a gemstone collection. another was my beach pebble collection (specifically ones that were grey with white stripes) from when i was a toddler. then my notebook collection. and my ceramic box collection. and my hair bobble collection. and my pin collection. and my necklace collection. and my book collection of course. and my odd pieces of stationary collection (separate from the rubbers). and the seashell collection. and the lip balm collection. and the ongoing 'random things i found laying about that have seemingly no use' collection -- that one's actually the most practical, for example i had a button from the school blazer i got years ago that we used recently to replace the missing button on my brother's blazer. yeah. collections are fun
FUCKIN PLAYMOBIL???????? KAKUZU DOESNT EVEN HAVE A FUNKO POP (i mean fuck funko but everyone and their mom has a funko pop. If i walked into a store and there was a funko pop of my dead grandpa i wouldn’t even be startled for a second) BUT PLAYMOBIL?????
Uh so yea, Kakuzu and Hidan enjoyers.. you can now buy Playmobil figures of them. There’s also a very cute “Tobi” (they turned his dango into icecream) and a Kisame. No Itachi for some reason despite him being the most popular member tho. I have no idea why this exists.
My mom found a doll at her job in a pile of garbage left out after someone moved out of their storage unit, and she thought I'd like it bc hell yeah toys!!!!! But I cannot get ANY info on girly, and It's been bugging me a lot that I can't find her on the interwebs :o((
I was at Walmart acquiring the Jewel Sparkle lalaloopsy doll because I’m twisted and insane and at the self checkout I heard “*gasp* oh she’s SO cute” “what is she? A strawberry shortcake?” “No but look at her little dress” And I turn around to see 3 classic southern blonde ladies just losing their minds over how cute the doll is 😭😭😭 I talked to them for a minute and when I left one of them goes “Noooo don’t take her away!!!” Made my day bro there is nothing cuter than the the times older ladies in my rural south small town connect with me, a freak-ass little lesbian, over my doll collection ugh 🥺
I wanna... I wanna collect figurines... But I'm in the UK and I have no clue where to even find stores that sell them that don't cost £10+ shipping. Howww do i even start
Heads up for anyone in the UK who wants to get a Nightshade toy (as they've been near impossible to find here and when they do pop up they're like £40+) Amazon UK finally has them in stock for a non-scalped price!
Though this might be the version WITHOUT the Mandroid piece, it's a bit unclear from the listing.
Not a fan of Amazon personally, but it's a place to buy them if you want an enby Owl figure!
(I got lucky and got mine from ID toys in the 30 seconds they had it in stock last year)
Anyways sorry for rambling about fucking Universal Studios of all things I have an interest in amusement parks, and merch, and am very normal about the Super Mario Brothers actually so y'know.
I really want the Spider-Man 2099 Spider-Verse figure from Hot Toys, But after watching some convincing critique videos from people who actually collect these figures I'm deciding to hold off.
Apparently for Hot Toys this is a disappointing release. Most of their figures are coverd in fabric and Spider-Man 2099 is all plastic and exposed joints, basically a $260 oversized version of the Hasbro toy.
However HT heard the complaints and made an announcement that they will be updating their 2099 figure, but there aren't any pictures yet.
As soon as we get pictures of his updated look i might splurge. This would be the first figure I drop $$ for.
In the meantime I ordered the marvel Legends one b/c he's small and adorable. Lol. But omg I could not find that little fucker anywhere. I had to order him off Amazon!
