List 5 topics you can talk on for an hour without preparing any material
Tagged by @toooldforthisbutstill - thank yoooou!
Discworld
Podcast recommendations (fiction and non-fiction, the latter in up to three languages)
Leitmotifs in film soundtracks
Cooking (on the budget-y end of the scale, though I can probably spend at least ten minutes of that hour on caveats about preexisting gear, one’s personal spoon cost of cooking, proximity to various supermarkets and feasibility of shopping there,… before making any claims)
If we’ll allow angry yelling, antibiotic overuse/misuse in livestock farming and just generally the rise of antimicrobial resistance
Tagging, hm… @awordwasthebeginning @having-conniptions @thattalviel @wippsteertt @mutantenfisch @black-cat-aoife @grumpyfaceurn @tatzelwyrm and whoever else wants to, I’m in a food coma from my latest Aquafaba Experiment (tm), I’ve probably forgotten people.

Not trying to push you in any way, but I just want you to know that I dream of translating Ad astra in French one day, should it ever be finished (if you'd let me, of course)
Oh, wow, thank you! That would be very cool as far as I'm concerned, honestly. And I genuinely hope that someday I'll be in a space to do it, since it was so near to a real conclusion. I was really close to the end of my outline, but not quite there, and I'd very much like to wrap my original plans up at the very least.
In general, btw, I'm okay with translations of any of my fics as long as I'm credited for the original fic and told about the translation (so I can go check it out!).
imsfire2 replied:
If that inspiration ever does strike, know that there are readers who will be very happy to see it and to learn how you wind the story up!
Thank you very much! It's really nice to know that people still care about it in this age when fandoms come and go so quickly.

For the wholesome asks: Earth!
Something that always reminds you of a loved one?
So I have never seen an entire episode of Miraculous Ladybug and it completely baffles me. I just do not get it. HOWEVER, my cousin absolutely adores it and everything I know about it I’ve leaned from her. So whenever it’s trending on tumblr or I see something related, that’s always my reminder to call her to chat 💚

Abelia and daffodil, for the ask game!
abelia; ⇢ do you have a particular piece of jewelry you always wear or can’t part with? oh, I don't really. I wear jewelry very sporadically, but I do have a necklace that I always had, and it looks like one of those christian necklace they give you at birth with your name on the back and a sculpture in the front, except mine has a scorpio graved in the front, and i'm born in november so it's perfect, and i love it.
daffodil; ⇢ do you have siblings? if yes, in what ways do you think you’re similar to or different from them?
I have one big brother, and one baby sister, and we are all full young adults now. The main difference between them and me is that they both have a thousand friends, and i am always in awe in how competent they are at being good friends to all of them, they are incredible!
And the way we are similar is how we all took to drawing somehow, secretly, without any reason but pure joy and we just found out we can all draw, which is so sweet
ask me stuff!

Linen and Kisses
For Fluffbruary! The prompts for today were table | blush | laundry. Thanks to @toooldforthisbutstill for sharing the snippet of a marriage contract that inspired this.
Linen and Kisses
The music had switched from Wagner to Nine Inch Nails, so Cassian knew his girlfriend was taking a break for at least a few songs. She couldn't listen to anything with words when she was working, she said because languages got tangled up in her head, so she had massive playlists of classical and instrumental music to blast as she was head-down in some manuscript or other.
He went out to the kitchen and found her filling the kettle. The ravages of her morning's work spilled out over the table, multiple dictionaries and her battered old computer and printouts with penciled notes and highlighted words.
"What language today?" he asked.
"Japanese," she said.
Before meeting her, Cassian had considered himself reasonably multilingual. Spanish, English, and about halfway to fluent in French. It was two-and-a-half times more languages than most people spoke in this country.
But Jyn was fluent in all those and more. She worked as a freelance translator, and since moving in together, he'd gotten used to having half the bookcase filled with dictionaries and having to guess which language she was using to talk on the phone and why.
French, Japanese, Arabic, Russian? Some connection of hers on another continent.
Spanish, with a lot of laughing? Probably his sister.
Danish? Her father, and there would be cursing afterwards.
"Are you done?" he asked. "Or just taking a break?"
"Done for now."
"Good, I was going to start lunch. Any requests?"
"Edible," she said, starting to clear up her mess. "Thanks." She hooked her arm around his waist and leaned up to kiss his cheek. She got taciturn when fighting with a particular translation - well, more taciturn.
By the time she'd cleaned the table off, he'd gotten some of his homemade tomato soup in the microwave and assembled a couple of cheese sandwiches for grilling. She leaned against the counter as he cooked.
He rarely liked having someone in his kitchen, but Jyn was the exception.
"What's wrong?" she asked, breaking a corner off the cheese block and tossing it in her mouth.
"Nothing," he answered, a hair too fast. "Why do you ask?"
She eyed him. "I dunno, you just seem a little tense."
"Because you're eating all the good cheese."
"Oh no," she said, cutting off another corner. "Whatever will happen if we run out of cheese? We might have to go down to the store. How awful."
He waggled his spatula at her. "That's the good stuff. You don't get that at a fucking Walmart."
"Snob," she said, and took another corner. "And anyway, we don't get anything at fucking Walmart because you're banned for talking to the cashiers about unionizing."
"Only because I wouldn't let you vandalize the store manager's car."
"Is slashing tires really vandalism?"
"I think you'll find, yes."
She shrugged. "They never would have caught me."
The microwave beeped, and she pulled out the bowls, just in time for him to plate the sandwiches. With the addition of cutlery and tea in heavy mugs, lunch was served.
He wasn't fool enough to think she'd been distracted or deceived, and if he had been, the canny look she shot him would have disabused him of that notion. The woman knew him far too well.
"So," she said. "What've you been up to this morning?" She dipped the corner of her sandwich in the soup.
It was as good an opening as he could have hoped for.
"Messing around online," he said, digging in his back pocket. "Actually, I found something and did some practice translating, but I'm not too sure if I got it right."
"French? Your French is coming along."
"It's not as good as yours," he said, and she nodded in agreement. "Can you read it over for me? This is the original here. Something from a marriage contract in the middle ages."
She narrowed her eyes at him. "You trying to get me to work for free?"
"Good point. What's your price?"
She leaned across the table and kissed him firmly on the lips. "There." She took the paper from his hand and unfolded it. "Mmm. Hmm. Awwwww."
"There's a part I didn't quite get," he said. "About the laundry?"
"Linen," she murmured. She'd majored in European history, and it still emerged from time to time. "Underthings. What you wore next to your skin underneath all the - " She flapped a hand. "Velvet and brocade, if you were rich, or wool if you were poor."
"Ye Olde Fruit of the Looms," he said.
"Mmm. But it was still expensive because everything was spun and dyed and woven and sewn by hand. Cheap clothing is a really modern concept." She looked at the contract again. "This is a legally binding promise that she'll have the things she needs, always."
"Practical," he said.
"And kisses," she added. "It's a really sweet turn of phrase. Linen and kisses." She smiled over it for a moment, then looked up. "What was your translation?"
He dug in his pocket and passed it over. He tried to eat a little soup as she read it through, comparing it with the original, but had to put the spoon back in the bowl and hold his mug tightly.
She read it aloud. “I swear to protect you from poverty, to cover your back with linen and kisses, to watch over your sleep and bring you all the delights of this world as long as I walk it with you.”
Her eyes paused on the last line, spaced a little below the rest of his translation. She lifted her eyes. "This wasn't in the original."
He knew what it said without her having to read it aloud. "No," he said. "But it fits."
She looked at it again.
Jyn, will you marry me?
"I know we've only talked about it a few times," he said. "And I don't have a ring or anything. I thought you'd probably want to pick something out yourself. But I - " He gestured. "I read that. And it felt like a sign."
He didn't normally go in for signs. Neither did she. But reading that had felt like - oh, this. This is what I want. And she's who I want it with.
She set the translation on the table and he looked at it, wondering if he'd been too hasty. If she was about to let him down gently, or not very gently, or -
She got up, came around the table, and settled herself in his lap. His arms came around her instinctively, pulling her close.
"Oui," she said, smoothing her thumbs along the edge of his beard. "Need that translated?"
He let out all his breath in a rush and rested his forehead on hers. "Listillo," he muttered, and she laughed until his mouth covered hers.
The soup and the sandwiches were stone cold by the time they got back to eating them, but he found he didn't mind. She smiled at him over her soup, clearly not minding it either.
"So you'll cover my back with linen, will you," she said.
"And kisses," he said, stretching over the table to press one to her lips. "Don't forget the kisses."

ups, I did it again. Some progress has been made, though my idea of anatomy or clothes is still very... strange xD
This time art is inspired by the first part of the great series by Taste_is_Sweet "And Breathe", which changed my brain chemistry and made something with my sanity, but I'm not complaining. :D
"One Bite at a Time"

Thank you @cate-deriana and @oceanspray5 for the tag 💕
I am sorry it took me forever to answer
RULES: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic / original / anything) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence.
The last sentence I've written was Not feeding infants these types of products! which was on a presentation for uni. But no one cares about that, so here is the last fanfic sentence I've written:
It takes surprisingly long to find out the identity of the fairy woman.
tagging @alphacrone, @andorerso, @quarantineddreamer, @fulcrumstardust, @luciechat, @toooldforthisbutstill, @rifle-yes, @flythesail (no pressure tag ofc) (lets pretend these are 13 people)

Just… so many things that I know seem small on their own - the posts you tag me in that are 100% My Thing, the quizzes we both take and go “same hat!” on, … - so many sparks of warmth that can brighten any day.
(And your Discworld recipe posts way back when were part of what showed me that cooking could actually be fun, I’m eternally grateful to you for that.)

List 5 topics you can talk on for an hour without preparing any material.
I've been tagged by @toooldforthisbutstill (thanks <3) so here we go, in no particular order:
Hamsters, rats, mice, rabbits, chinchillas, hedgehogs, and guinea pigs care.
Scammers wilfully misunderstand quantum mechanics and relativity to sell you stupid products & crappy philosophy.
The sequel trilogy for Star Wars is a nightmare and I fully blame capitalism for it.
Maths are slaughtered at the high school level. It actually doesn't matter if you can perform summations quickly, or have the multiplication tables memorized up to 69, it really doesn't.
I hate purebred animals of company.
I tag @rifle-yes, @imsfire2, @guesswhowhere, @atthelamppost and @melyzard but only if you're up for it.

Do you prefer forests, sea shores, or meadows?
I really, really love the beach. I live within day-trip distance of the ocean (kinda...) and I always want to go to the beach. Unfortunately in the winter no one ever wants to come with me and I cannot drive :(

Tag, you're it! I've been tagged by @toooldforthisbutstill who knows damn well i can't resist ^^
Rules: make yourself as a kid, teen, young adult and now, using this Picrew, use your favorite color at the time as a background, and tag some people.
I think I had the best time as a kid, honestly. From 13 onward was a bit ... rough, I guess. And as an adulting adult, I'm growing more and more into myself, especially thanks to a certain someone. And... I can be as childish and mouthy as I didn't allow myself to be as a teenager, so that's a plus.
Now tagging: @dodgermd @dontworrymum-differentiscool @gaelicwarcry @nurphy as well as anyone who wants to give it a try!

15 questions, 15 mutuals
Tagged by @toooldforthisbutstill for a “15 questions, 15 mutuals” thing, thank you buddy 💙
1. Are you named after anyone?
My second birth name is the first name of my great-great-grandma. And my chosen name is inspired by Alexander The Great (and maybe a little bit by Alexandre Astier but you can't prove anything)
2. When was the last time you cried?
I cried on Thursday but it's because I had a big dysphoria crisis (I don't have many of those, to be fair, so I was quite surprised). Fortunately, I had my binder with me and I also was with my crush and they comforted me.
3. Do you have kids?
Zero and I don't want to have any.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
I think I use sarcasm a little bit, but I almost often use tone indicators now bc I know some people (including me!) can struggle with knowing when it's the case!
5. What sports do you play/have you played?
I currently do Do-In/Qi Gong all the two weeks, some yoga sometimes and I also walk each day. I used to do running, fitness, zumba and a lot of other things but depression prevents me from doing all this now (and yeah, I know "sports help with depression", but actually it's a little bit more complicated than that, sometimes depression is too deep for it).
6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people?
Their "fashion style" (I don't have better way to say it, sorry). And if they're an extrovert or an introvert, depending on their body language. Shit, it makes me look like a very judgmental person 🙈 I swear I'm not a superficial jerk!! I just try to adapt myself to the person I'm talking with, a little bit like a social chameleon
7. What’s your eye colour?
Dark brown
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings all the way! Like @toooldforthisbutstill , scary stuff isn't for me (or only in very specific contexts, like said by a Youtuber or by a streamer - yes, I'm thinking about Squeezie's horror threads xD)
9. Any special talents?
Writing, playing the ukulele, ending up in complicated polyamorous situations
10. Where were you born?
A city in the Parisian suburbs (I'm not doxxing myself again, this time!!)
11. What are your hobbies?
Writing, reading, going to the movies or to the museum, playing the ukulele, going for a walk, going out with friends... [edit] Oh and also DnD and video games! I forgot to mention that I'm a nerd xD
12. Do you have any pets?
Not me personally, but my parents have a dog and I love her a lot!
13. How tall are you?
168 cm / 5,5 ft
14. Favourite subject in school?
French/Literature
15. Dream job?
Writer ✨
And I tag: @krwzprtt @chonaku-things @paceees @datcreolebitch @adiosleblues @chubbychummy @peribytes @literallyjustanerd @harinezumiko @moldy-junk @solaneceae @shakeskp @thesquidkid (yeah, I know, it's not 15 but I don't know how to count xD) No pressure, only do it if you feel like it :D And whoever wants to do it can too!! Consider yourself tagged ^^

What’s your eye color? Something between green and brown.
Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings, from those two.

Do you have any pets? I had. But currently, no.

15 questions
15 mutuals
Tagged by @bright-elen, and I've got a few minutes, so I'll give it a go!
1. Are you named after anyone?
No. I'm actually named in avoidance of someone-- the name my mother initially wanted to name me was a no-go, because it was the name of my dad's siblings who was stillborn when he was only two. He and all his younger siblings didn't even really know about her death until they were adults-- Dad vaguely remembers the pregnancy, but nothing else. My grandmother just-- Did Not Talk about it, and my grandfather gently asked if my parents would consider choosing a different girl's name as one option. So they did, and I'm glad-- I like my given name. It's unusual for my generation, and the name I avoided is just Not Me.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Oh, last week I teared up when a colleague sent me a dumbass email about how he needed my help figuring out how to do something tech related that I have LITERALLY showed him how to do at least once a week for the past two years. And I was just so tired and stressed it just about broke me. Before that, I cried at a friend's funeral two weeks ago. But those were good tears. Sad, but purifying. It had been a long, horrible illness, and it was good to know she wasn't in pain anymore.
3. Do you have kids?
None that are mine by blood or law. But I teach about 180 a year, so-- yeah, I've got kids.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
More than I should. I'm working on it.
5. What sports do you play/have you played?
I am an enormous klutz, so team sports are a terrible idea. But I was super into long-distance cycling in high school and college. And I love hiking, but my ankles are such a disaster nowadays from Bad Decisions and various past injuries that I am very slow and measured in what I do now.
6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people?
Eyes and voice.
7. What’s your eye colour?
The green end of hazel.
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
I am a terrible wuss about scary movies, so happy endings.
9. Any special talents?
I have a stupid memory for useless things. Like, when I would get bored during college lectures, I would see how much of "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" I could write out from memory.
10. Where were you born?
Northwest of Atlanta by a bit.
11. What are your hobbies?
Reading, writing, pen-and-ink drawing, traveling, pottery, and I really like those architectural models made out of teeny-tiny not-Legos.
12. Do you have any pets?
I have lots of houseplants and kidnap my parents' dog on the regular. I really want a dog of my own, but I'm out of the house every day around 6 AM, and I don't get back until 5 or 6 PM. Unless I get a dog walking service, that's just cruel.
13. How tall are you?
Taller than my sister, which is all that matters.
14. Favorite subject in school?
History, literature, and-- oddly-- chemistry.
15. Dream job?
I mean, I don't dream about working? But I like what I do; I just wish the pay was an appropriate compensation for the work, and the state I work in had a better respect for my professionalism.
15 mutuals: Please don't feel obligated, y'all: @frostbitepandaaaaa, @marwoodly, @coffee-and-uhg, @corazondebeskar, @toooldforthisbutstill, @intellectual-carrot, @angrytrigonometry, @lunapascal, @buckybarnesss, @jake-and-amy-are-married, @fbismostunwanted, @naivara, @velvetsunset, @nonableistcatlady, @lilting-aurora
