Ultimately the reason Percabeth is such horrifically bad ship yet gets praised so much is that while Percy and Annabeth canonically love eachother,they also canonically don't like eachother LMAO.Percy's constantly wishing Annabeth was extremely different than who she actually is because he finds her unbearable and hard to be around and finds escapism in being around people who're unlike her with the biggest example being him having been in love with Rachel before they settled into still close exes

There's also his friendships with the Grace Sibs,Thalia had infinitely better progress with him in TTC than Annabeth has in the entire saga and he admires her a lot more too and it's a running theme that Jason is Annabeth's opposite and Percy became instant best friends with him upon first meeting and all three of their first meetings are more charming and unique than Percy saying his type is princess-y girls in his narration but Annabeth hating being seen as one because she's gnc and 'You drool when you sleep'.I also think if anybody is Percy's cosmically intertwined soulmate it's not any s/os but Nico and Hazel and by that i mean in a found siblings with him also being their pseudo-parent way.All their dynamics are interesting and richen their characters and they're from different time periods which only adds to how special their bond is

And on Annabeth's end.......She kinda straight up hates his existense.She's always talking about how stupid he is and that he's useless without her and i get that Rick tried to sell it as affectionate teasing but she's angered by it so often it's obvious it's just Rick being a cishet nt white old man.She gets angered by finding him attractive too?????This trope can be good but Percy never actually does anything,he's literally just existing and that includes not actively pursuing her back since he dosen't want her even half as much as she thinks she wants him.It's rare compared to her mean-spirited comments he explicitly never consented to and finds unnecessary and one of the many thing's he wishes she wasn't and he never returns her physical assaults so 'they're demigods and it's normal!' excuse dosen't add up

Yeah,they're dating in canon and gonna get married.Percy's also gonna not only go to college but a demigod college when again and again and AGAIN he says he dosen't want to be a half-blood and he's only going so he can live out a traditional lifestyle with Annabeth so so much for 'his thether to his mortal side' i guess.Annabeth never got any shit from Poseidon like Percy did Athena or terrorizing like Aphrodite does everybody else she talks to and Percy was forced to narratively forgive Luke,again,only because of Annabeth when he groomed him for a bit and abused him tons too and it's so vile to gaslight us into thinking Luke was anything but a serial pedophile and beyond far right to Percy's lifelong outcasthood and anarchy and Annabeth as a direct victim of his sick sexual 'interests' in plausible deniability font due to being a pg series.Percabeth is the peak cishet romance norms taken up to 12 like the Olympians and it's embarrasingly obvious nobody saying they're t4t has ever been in a transmasc4transfem relathionship

That's why this moment is so fucking depressing.She knows him and she dosen't like any of what he is and he dosen't say it outloud because he's scared of the truth,that he ended up with the wrong person,that he fucked up again and she's hollower whenever she's around him because she exists FOR him and for almost nothing else.They weren't eachother's choice,they were eachother's destiny decided by everyone but themselves.This fucks up my autistic ass so much man,no wonder i only ever liked that lesbian!Percabeth au with transfemme Percy and butch Annabeth that was popular when i was a kid,that's deadass the only way you can make it work,they'd need an entire rehaul but at this point i don't care to try because the shippers don't deserve it after how demonic they've been since the 2000s.Percabeth was never a good ship,you were just a tween

Okay so speaking as a long time fanfic author and aspiring books author,Percy works best as a trans girl from a writing standpoint and not just because she'd be extremely good rep.Percy being a cis guy who's stereotypically masculine is forced characterization because she has no reason to want to be one-She had no positive male role models growing up.There were definitely male teachers who were mean-spirited to her as much as female ones,Poseidon abandoned her and even after they met he prioritized her or at least treated her like a father who genuinely loves his daughter out of just her being his child instead obligation a grand total of zero times,Smelly Gabe is self-explanatory and Luke abused her too right from the start by gaslighting her.All she had was Sally so it's realistic that Percy would think women are better than men and not give a shit about being manly and preferring femininity

It's semi-canon that Percy has a trauma based dislike of men if we're looking at subtext-In the og series,she speaks much more positively of the girls around than she does the boys and she actually trash talks the latter while using being hypermasculinity as an insult,such as implying Ares is ugly multiple times.And one of the three male friends she has vs being friends with almost every girl in her age range?Nico,Pjo's first canon mlm.This just absolutely screams 'baby gays spotting eachother without either knowing they're not cishet yet' and it's only added on to by how devoted they are to eachother despite the problems in their relathionship.Plus,just sayin',but the explicit reason Nico got over his crush on Percy is that she wasn't a traditional male hero like he thought she was

On similar note,Rachel is a lot like many irl lesbians and her and Percy remain besties after their break up and the first point applies to Reyna too,who liked Percy and likewise after taking away the posibility of romance to their dynamic,they remained great friends and it's a common tgirl experience to still be close to all your ex girlfriends in a platonic way post-egg cracking.Percy reminds me so much of so many of my trans woman friends in tons of ways and i've seen others say the same and back to my first point,the logical conclusion to Percy hating having to be a man who's super masculine is to make her a woman who's super feminine so she can be happy so this all comes full circle

And onto specifics for the Pjo storylines and developments,Percy gains even more depth if she's a trans woman.A self admitted former 'troubled kid' who just wants to be normal but is always getting shoved into a role she dosen't want by people who think they know better than her despite barely knowing her,Luke's fixation on targeting younger girls can be told as a feminist tale by having her the hero of the prophecy instead of him and also be the one to kill him to avenge her female friends and you cannot tell me that the idea of the protagonist of one of the best children's books series out there being a trans girl who's got bad social skills,anger issues and merciless tendencies but never gets demonized for them,is the funniest person in the whole franchise,hyperfemme too and the fucking daughter of Poseidon isn't based as all fuck

She would also help Annabeth's character development by teaching her to not be a pick me anymore and Annabeth would thank her by teaching her to be more self-confident,Nico and her would've become found siblings and Nico and eventually Hazel could've even been adopted by Sally because of it,her transfemininity would've changed the angles of her dynamics with the gods to make them make more interesting,we could dive into how Pjoverse greco-roman mythos play into transgenderism and other types of queerness,Percy's already canon present Team Mom habits and hinted love for cute and 'kiddy' things would be used to their full potential like they deserve,it opens to door to an even more interesting potential romantic dynamic with Jason and there's definitely way more

God/Titan/Dark!Percy being so popular is genuinely so maddening.Percy's spent the whole franchise and even before it hating authority figures because he grew up in it and BEFORE it knowing first-hand how abusive and corrupted they are and he was already a bully beater for a long while by The Lightning Thief and direct action against Luke's fascist ass was his whole motivation in Pjo and in Hoo he STILL dosen't take the gods shit but dosen't turn evil either because he's not a pussy like he was and he also does things to help fix the system like using his wish to ask the Gods to actually do things for their kids and encouraging the less priviliged myth beings to fight for their rights and better treatment too and he respects women bendlessly and adopted Nico and Hazel as his younger siblings and pseudo-kids because they had no positive living adult figures in their lives and thinks rich things are corny and that hypermasculinity is a burden he dosen't wanna participate in and finds gross and unappealing on other guys and is accidentally autistic-coded on every level and there's way more evidence for that than any male queerness for him and canonically dosen't want to be super powerful and WAS LITERALLY A TEENAGE ANARCHIST

And yet.Supposedly.According to Pjo fans,none of this matters and was bad writing because Percy's a 'manly man' and 'the sassiest' so they make him a sellout and unironically think he'd be friends with the t*rf wizard book series protagonist who's the embodiment of 'passive aggressively bigoted abled cishet white guy' and grew up to be a fucking cop.Like fuck!No wonder a certain unfortunately large group sanatize Hobie Brown by downplaying how anti-corruption and nonconforming and what a big sweetie he is in the name of making a better world because punk means violence IN THE SAME OF KINDNESS and kindness to those who experience underserved violence and always prioritizing those over normalcy even if it makes things harder for yourself and taking pride in your weirdness yet Atsv fans say he's fan of fucking Taylor Swift and make him toxic and condesending because 'that's just what guys are like'-It makes perfect sense that you guys can't handle a character who's entire point is to be the embodiment of what punk's supposed to be,you guys couldn't even handle Percy Jackson

See the thing is i don't hate comparisons between Tim Drake and Percy Jackson because i'm a Tim anti or think they wouldn't get along,i KNOW they'd be besties but not for the reasons everyone thinks-Yes,Tim's a skater boy who loves running his mouth and has ego problems and VERY bad self-care habits and trouble being intentionally nice and has to deal with high school drama VS unhinged ass world saving bussiness and is scrawny and wet cat looking(affectionate).And i hate to tell you this but only one of those things is canon for Percy and it's the snark and even then they're not the same brand

Percy is poor(Tim's rich),is a swimmer,believes she's unworthy of the good things she gets and deserving of the bad ones and more,is very naturally sweet thanks to Sally's upbringing,didn't really have any consistent connection between her demigod life and what happened at school when she went to it,is a mom friend who's more put-together than most demigods by a fair shot and is canonically 6' and well-built and if she's any kind cat looking it's the transfem catgirl kind(no i will not elaborate,just know i'm right).Additionally,Tim's grunge goth and Percy dosen't dress punk because Rick's a coward but if she did she'd be pastel punk

What i'm saying is:Tim and Percy wouldn't 'bros who share a braincell'.They'd be chaos instigators and a found older sister/younger brother duo and Tim would take an instant (platonic)liking to Percy because she's so much like Stephanie and Percy'd force this poor kid into sleeping normally and rbf him into eating healthy and they'd play video games and go on missions and do meme challenges together and and she'd cure his touch starvedness with her latina swag and Tim'd always have her back when her hero status got doubted and do his best to return Percy's care of him and the poor girl literally wouldn't know how to respond because Nico and Hazel were too young to do it back but love every second of it.Also Tim lies to Bruce about needing money for mission stuff to buy her gifts and Percy paints his nails in super femme styles and they do eachother's hair and watch old cartoons and learn to do dances and make traditional recipes and other black sibling bonding activities and she's an additional Super to his Bat like Kon but that last part goes without saying

Apperance

Monoracial black but mixed etchnicity since Poseidon is black-greek and Sally is an afro-dominican third gen inmigrant.Darkskin,big nose that adorns his face,thick lips and 4c type hair.His iconic sea green eyes remain unchanged because black people with green eyes >>>>>>

6'4 by his 20s thanks to demigod genes and a realistic tank-As in,dosen't have rippling muscles because ew but instead a healthy mix of fat and muscle that gives him a thick build.Stops shaving the lower half of his face too but not his upper lip because he thinks mustaches are ugly

Sally being the mom of all time made her turn into a Team Mom and Poseidon's neglect made him decide to be a better father than he could ever be so he's a Team Dad too and these are canon like above but they're amped up to explicitly parental habits like platonic kisses for his pseudo-kids and cooking for them and getting into their interests with them even if they're out of his age range

And one last canon adjusted thing is that he still hates the gods but it's kicked up several notches by him actually managing to kill Zeus like he did Luke in TLO because she was who the Great Prophecy was about and thus making the remaining ones so scared of her they can't stop her and the other demigods and non-god greco-roman beings with a few token deity allies from revolutionizing the system in Tods.They're titled 'The Hero and Destroyer of Olympus' because thanks to him their world is finally good

Autistic(actually canon regardless of Rick's intentions)but went largely undiagnosed despite very obviously having every single symptom because he dosen't fall under any stereotypes

In the third Tods book,Riptide gains counciousness due to how all that he's done with it and she's certainly Percy's companion by how she acts.She grows new gear and those are the greek word for 'ultimate' and a thicker and longer blade and manipulation of liquid to a small extent herself and her hilt tints itself an oceanic blue

Dosen't bother with storms because Zeus was so annoying about them he dosen't wanna create them himself

Can soothe aching wounds with water but not really heal them

No siren abilities and he's grateful for that since they creep him out

Sea creature speech includes krakens

As it turns out,the more he loves the sea,the stronger he gets and this is why he keeps his seapunk side in moderation

Eventually,as far forward as him being married,he can create water out of thin air and he fucks around with it more than serious training

Being a demigod gets way harder to hide in Tods and it's both funny and angsty

Is the Pjo fandom aware that Percy is like.......actually not a normal person.Not the demigod thing,i mean he's neurodivergent and has mental illnesses from trauma so his set of beliefs,thoughts,onward actions and tastes are completely different from society's ideals and norms.It's not like he acts the way he does as a joke or to look cool,it's kinda a big thing he can't stop acting like himself no matter what???It gives him self-eestem issues but it really is for the better for everyone involved because it makes him an actual role model for irl troubled kids who got to read him grow all the way up until adulthood alongside us and him never masking being potrayed as what made him the best and realest hero in the whole franchise

He's never been tempted to join the gods and talks shit to them because he has no interest in power and they're child abusers who run an oppressive system,not because he's a BAMF and 'sassy'.He dosen't try to cover up his 'sensitive' and 'soft' emotions because he thinks they're stupid,it's a defense mechanism from growing up with an abusive stepdad,ableist bullies and teachers and a society that expects peak masculinity from him despite his desire for femininity instead and there's a reason why almost all his friends in the og series were girls and he insults other guys based on being too manly

My Percy Jackson headcanons/rewrite

Agere Dead Sea Siblings headcanons

Their brains do age regression as a coping and defense mechanism from trauma

Technically all flips but only Percy calls themself a caregiver since Nico and Hazel only take care of him when he's a Little while he does it in general for anybody who needs it due to him being an adult while they're only kids

Hazel's ages are 2-3,Nico's are 3-5 and Percy's are 7-8 with the occasional 2

As a cg,Percy does babytalk sometimes,carries them around,gives them extra kisses and takes them on safe adventures like gardening and playing hide and seek.He's learned how to spot when they're tiny when they try to hide it and eventually it gets to the point where they stop trying because of all his reassurances and how safe she makes them feel so now instead they make a b-line for him when it happens

Percy was actually able to repress his regression out of sheer spite and anger when it started(Poseidon genes)but after his self-eestem improved he told Sally about it and she did research so they could find out what was up with him and by then she'd adopted Nico so they knew he's one too and same goes for Hazel when him and Percy ressurected her at Persephone's request so she'd be a part of the Second Great Prophecy

They're all animal regressors too-Nico's a baby bat,Hazel's a pony/fillie and Percy's a kitty

Little!Nico and Hazel call Percy 'Papa/Mama' as opposed to their usual sibling terms for her since while she's normally already a parental figure to them,their age amps it up big time and they call Little!Percy 'Princess'

And Little!Percy calls them 'Coco' and 'Azie' while Cg!Percy calls them his 'Little Rockstars' and 'Precious'(as in pearls)

Nico likes halloween costumes,card games,chewy tender food,being thrown around and storybased songs,Hazel likes tutus,Monster High,black louisiana food sweet or heavy kinds,playfighting,hyperpop and Percy likes coloring,tickles,bubble baths,fairy tales,themed food(Cookie Monster especially)and Lo-Fi Chiptunes

Nico's a pretty quiet kid and takes naps a lot but still energetic,Hazel's even more of a little shit and gets even girlier and Percy's a handful but not in a bad way

Sally saved up to buy them an easy bake oven,toy phones that match their tastes(A box of fries for Nico,a ghost with a bow for Hazel and a pink cat for Percy)and even made them pacis with the diy skills Percy taught her

The cat themed communication cards Nico and Hazel made Percy as a thank you for all he's done for them come into use her for both Percy themself and them borrowing them since she's cool with it

Hazel plays witch often and Percy's more than happy to be her familiar wether he's big or tiny

Nico likes feeling independent so his siblings don't overdue it so he dosen't cry or throw tantrums.However,he's also extra sensitive to his chronic pain in this state so he also understands he needs help with certain things

Hazel's hair is often filled with colorful butterfly hairclips by Percy's doing at her request,Nico's hair gets put into protective styles for safety by Sally or one of his siblings and Percy perfers having his styles changed throught his regressions

Their favorite shows are Max and Ruby,Kiya and the Kimoja Heroes,Bluey,Blues Clues,Dragon Tales,Adventure Time and Spidey and his Amazing Friends with Percy having a huge (platonic obvs) thing for Gwen Stacy thanks to it and the Spiderverse movies so she has secondhand merch of her and made her Atsv suit for herself so she could wear it

And she also made a Miles Morales one for Nico since they're literally Siblings!Ghost Flower and a Peni Parker one for Hazel based off the Across concept art since Hazel has a huge crush on Peni

Nico also loves Tiny Titans and Hazel is the number one Koriand'r fan and Percy models his drawing style after the DC Superhero Girls 2019 one

Percy started collecting stim gifs for them and they did the same for him but with Sonic the Hedgehog memes and cute fanart

Nico also calls Percy and Hazel 'Squish/Squishy' as nicknames since they're both fat/plus-sized and have expressed that it makes them feel insecure

They have matching Aquapets and Percy's even more into legos in tiny mode than he is normally

They have a big children's makeup kit they all share because it has sections with different kinds and that's why Sally bought it for them(i.e One's goth makeup,another's pink and purple and yellow and the last one's ocean themed along with all of them having glitter options)

Percy's obssessed with Rainbow Dash all the time but copies her speech as a Little and can't play his scary games like Undertale and Deltarune in that state so he plays Nickjr games instead

Hazel's a no impulse control kid but knows what she's doing,perfers figurines over plushies because she likes the texture better and same goes for sneakers over slippers and adores clowns!!

Percy earns the nickname 'Wonder Woman' because of the greek demigoddess and expert at being good with kids combo

Sally made the Familia Jackson Beach Shack 100% child-safe because of them
