ICE CREAM

Hello! So I’m finally in my working condition (lol) and I slowly go through all the things I need to draw. Today I will post some of the requests I’ve received on my Buy Me a Coffee account (which is not existing anymore unfortunately). That was looooong ago! But I’m happy I’m finally doing it haha ;)

So the first one was requested by my lovely @alwayseverlark :

katniss eating an icecream (and if possible with a toast baby having one also and/or Peeta)

I wanted to draw middle aged Katniss for a while and this request was perfect for that. I think dancing girl is 10 years old here and Katniss is around 45 I suppose? 🤔 I think they just bought an ice cream after school and spent some good mom-and-daughter time together while Peeta and boy with the blonde curls were enjoying themselves in the bakery ♥️

Hello again @curiousnonny! On the one hand, I love that Suzanne Collins gave so many characters names that are significant to where they are from. In a way, it emphasizes the idea that each of the districts and the Capitol itself have developed their own cultures and traditions. It reinforces how isolated they are. One of my favorite Katniss scenes is when she's stuck in a tree in the first book, the Career pack threatening her from below and she takes the time to judge Glimmer's name -- "Ugh, the names parents in District One give their kids are ridiculous." Or something like that. Meanwhile, her name refers to a plant that is also called a swamp potato. A duck potato. You really gonna judge there, Kat my girl?

Out of the canon names, though, I think Haymitch Abernathy and Delly Cartwright might be two of my favorites mainly because they don't quite fit the nature and/or occupation naming convention that we as fandom has often assign to District 12. Delly could be short for something nature related, but we don't know. Their names leave us digging for deeper meanings, although I've seen some pretty convincing interpretations of Haymitch's name.

As for fandom bestowed names, I'm partial to the idea that Peeta is intended to be some weird futuristic distortion of Pita/Peter so while I can get on board with Rye as a name for his brother, in my fics, I almost always distort it in a similar way by adding an n >> Ryen as a mashup of Rye/Ryan.

I'm also always fascinated by the many different names given to the toastbabies and Everlark's parents since we never get any of their first names. I can't deal with a toastbaby named Rose, unfortunately. Given everything with Snow... nope. Not happening. I can't even bring myself to look past that sin in an AU lol.

Can I tell you a story? I promise it's not weird.

I read your drabble yesterday about Buttercup and Peeta where Peet was making pancakes for Katniss. Coincidentally enough I also made pancakes last night 🥞 Sourdough and yeast ones like always, and it reminded me of your sweet ❤️ drabble. Peeta was so adorable with his nervous energy and Buttercup was the right kind of comic relief. I just love them together.

This morning (I did an overnight rise), disaster strikes because the batter grew into a monster in the fridge and seeped its way out of the air tight container! It was ALIVE and there was pancake batter everywhere! 😂😭🤣 Thank goodness I didn't add eggs because that's extra clean up! I had a feeling it would happen when I said good night to it. Lo and behold, I had to clean the fridge before I even made breakfast 😭 What a Monday morning!

On the up side, the pancakes turned out pretty good. Because I had to clean the fridge, I saw some apples and added them to the batter. I also had some walnuts, so I crumbled them into the bowl. It was an experiment that didn't look so good but I think Peeta would be proud of me for its taste and texture. It was fluffy and moist. Just the right sweetness and freshness from the apples. I love walnuts so that's just 👌.

I was tempted to write this into an Everlark baking drabble with toastbabies but thought better to tell you instead. I hope my pancake adventure made you smile! 🥰 🥞🌞

Very cute story :).

Those pancakes sound delicious, although different from how I make them. I don't use yeast in them (I do bake bread, pizza crust, and cinnamon rolls with yeast). Mine are more like I described Peeta's: flour, a little sugar, baking powder, eggs, salt, and baking soda, with buttermilk that reacts with the baking powder to make them fluffy.

Cooking and baking are some of my favorite things to do, and many happy accidents happen in my kitchen, which results in dishes like your apple and walnut pancakes. Yum (I'm going to have to try that sometime)!!!

Headcanon: Katniss and Peeta are very private with pictures of their children but they do take a picture of toastbaby girl when she's born to send to Annie and Katniss's mom and Peeta snaps a couple quick ones of happy mom Katniss smiling down at their sleeping baby girl :) _

Oh my goodness, this! Eeehhh! Yes, they'd definitely be private with photos, but I agree on sending a pic to Annie and Katniss's mom. And awww, yes, Peeta would snap some of Katniss and baby! I want to see these photos! : D

I'm pretty sure Katniss would wear toastbaby girl for the first 8 weeks. Peeta would finally have to be like, Katniss, my dearest love, this baby is never going to learn how to do anything if you don't let her down once in awhile. And then just imagine the first time she lays her down for some tummy time. Katniss walks away. Babygirl cries, Katniss nearly breaks a leg trying to get back to her, lo and behold babygirl has lifted her head, crying, and searching for mama 💚

i totally see katniss being reluctant to put her baby down for the first couple of weeks. she’s so protective and in love with her little one that she even finds it hard to “share” her with peeta (who of course wants his own cuddle time with the baby).

plus, i imagine that katniss breastfeeds her children and so they’d be at their most content when they’re being held by her and tucked up against her chest all snug as a bug - and she’s not going to deny her babies one of their comforts, is she?

but as the sensible papa, peeta has to encourage her to set their daughter down once in a while (as well as give him a chance to hold her) and the image of their wee one craning her neck to find her mama again is just so precious 🥹

and can you imagine all the praise she would get? both mama and papa would coo what a clever girl she was and let her continue her new trick until she got tired, where one of them would ultimately scoop her up and snuggle her again.

However, they did make it into the Again trilogy.

General:

How long will they last? Long enough for Haymitch to insist on marrying her

How quickly did/will they fall in love? They've gotten on well from the beginning as they're both sarcastic and play off one another. Sex is something that happened very early. Love came later--like after the test turned out to be positive and Johanna was crowning kind of later.

How was their first kiss? Rough. They're good at it but not good with the feelings aspect of a kiss.

Wedding:

Who proposed? Haymitch. He is surprisingly traditional. However, Johanna doesn't feel like they need to be married to prove they're committed. She knows that they're all in. However, to make him happy, she accepts.

Who is the best man/men? Peeta, who gets very teary during his toast.

Who is the braid’s maid(s)? Katniss and Annie. Both manage to get Johanna in a dress and she looks f**king beautiful.

Who did the most planning? Neither. They just called up who they wanted there and just did it. It's all thrown together in a week. However, Haymitch plans a toasting for them after the hoopla.

Who stressed the most? Both are pretty chill about it.

Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? No one. The guest list was under ten guests.

Who is on top? Johanna, when she was in the Capitol, she had very little control over things like this and it's triggering for her to be on the bottom sometimes.

Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? Johanna, she's surprisingly organized

Who is the more loved parent? Both

Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? Neither, they don't play well with the PTA moms.

Who cried the most at graduation? Both and it really freaked their kid out.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? Both will, guns blazing. 

Cooking: 

Who does the most cooking? They eat at the Mellark house. However, if it comes down to it, Johanna will.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? Neither.

Who does the grocery shopping? It's a family event. However, Johanna and their daughter end up eating most of what they buy while at the grocery.

How often do they bake desserts? They're more of buy it and eat from the container kind of family.

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? Meat.

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? Haymitch is a closet romantic.

Who is more likely to suggest going out? They both like being at home with one another.

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking? Both.

Chores: 

Who cleans the room? Haymitch

Who is really against chores? Johanna

Who cleans up after the pets? Haymitch, but the little one will help with the geese along with the Mellark kiddos.

Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? Johanna.

Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? Neither. The only people who visit are the Mellarks and they pretty much walk in without knocking.

Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning? The kiddo.

Who takes the longer showers/baths? Both, when they're doing it together.

Who takes the dog out for a walk? Johanna and their kid.

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? When it was just them, they just got a tree. Now that there's a kid, they actually decorate for Christmas together.

Who is most likely to sleep till noon? Both, after certain activities

Who plays the most pranks? Neither, tricks are for kids.
