Hi!
Here's an interesting idea. What if Jim had actually been born a member of the Arcane Order, but eventually switched sides like Nari due to Bellroc and Skreal resurrecting Arthur who he couldn't stand?
Well, I'm rather fond of a juvenile deity archetype, so...
In this AU, Jim was born (well, more like 'created' by the Arcane Order) during the times when the Arcane Order started giving up on humanity. He was meant to be a 'judge' kind of deity (his element is lightning), so he is capable of destroying humanity - back then, the Order was reluctant to unleash the titans and overwrite the world, so creating someone who would correct mistakes of the world they created, seemed like a better solution.
Jim was still a child (despite being several centuries old) during the Camelot times, and his views about the world were pretty much black and white. He was deadset that humanity was bad and should be eliminated (like it was his role to do that eventually) and Arthur was pretty much the embodiment of all the worst traits humans possessed. Jim not only couldn't stand him, he absolutely loathed Arthur (well, Merlin as well, but we'll reach that point later).
Nari's betrayal hit Jim a lot, but unlike Bellroc and Skrael, he was absolutely convinced that humans had deceived and corrupted her. He wanted to 'save' her from them. Moreover, when Bellroc and Skrael resurrected Arthur, claiming it was for the better outcome, Jim got his own idea about what exactly had happened. From his point of view, Bellroc and Skrael had also fallen and were manipulated by Arthur. So Jim planned to escape and save his family.
And, at first, he didn't manage to escape, unlike Nari. Jim may know a lot about the Arcane Arts (way above even skilled wizards), but it's still below the level of any adult Arcane Order member, not to mention that he has no outside allies (unlike Nari who went to Merlin). So he was brought back and scolded - several times actually as he kept making attempts, adjusting his plans each time.
Jim comes to the conclusion that Bellroc and Skrael can track his magic signature, and attempts to mask it. It backfires and Jim somehow ends up in the body of a mortal human kid around five years old. It's when Barbara and James find him.
At that point, Jim thinks that his outright humiliating position won't last for long and that he can revert it (spoiler - he can't). He doesn't care that much about any cover story, and he just picks James's name (as any name would do, honestly, and he isn't that versed in human names). Initially, Jim ends up in the police and after a lot of misfortunes (and nobody being able to locate his family) Barbara talks James into adopting Jim.
James, however, doesn't like Jim at all (well, simply because Jim is uncannily creepy). The dislike is mutual, to be honest. On the other hand, Jim takes a liking to Barbara (to the point that he is willing to admit that there is ONE good human in the world). James and Barbara start to drift away, and James leaves(though, to be honest it would happen in any case).
Meanwhile, Jim tries to get his deity form and powers back without any success. The only good thing is that Bellroc and Skrael can't find him now (so he technically got what he wanted). Jim befriends Toby (and good human status goes to the second person), then he gets attached to Nana... The list keeps expanding (including his eventual crush on Claire) and Jim starts to genuinely appreciate his mortal life.
Growing up as a mortal human gives Jim another perspective, and he realizes that Nari actually tried to save the world when she ran away. Now Jim feels he should try to find a way to create a world where humans and magical creatures can coexist. However, he still thinks that Bellroc and Skrael are manipulated by Arthur.
No one knows Jim's secret though. He doesn't believe that sharing his secret will change a thing.
And then the amulet happens - which is, surprisingly, a lot. Jim has nothing against trolls (he's supposed to be magical creatures' protector), but being Merlin's champion is the bitter pill to swallow. Jim tries to tinker with the amulet a bit to break any connection it may have with Merlin (especially 'for the glory of Merlin' command - that one is like a major insult to Jim). Unfortunately for him, the amulet is more connected to stones' magic which is more of Nari and Bellroc's domain. Jim simply doesn't have enough knowledge, which leads to the amulet malfunctioning for him a lot - he might know enough not to break it for good, but it still lacking to make it function like intended).
When the lightning hits Jim during the incident with stalking, he recovers some of his control over electricity. Blinky mistakes it for Jim having some wizard ancestry. And Jim wonders if he can fully reverse his curse (as he feels he could do more in his original body).
Angor's curse doesn't work on Jim, which makes him curious. Angor deduces that Jim has to be a more powerful being, but he keeps the knowledge to himself. Later he makes a deal with Jim - and Jim agrees to liberate him as he feels sorry for Angor. From that point, Angor Rot is Jim's secret ally - and he fakes putting a binding spell on Barbara.
Angor also 'accidentally' drops the shadow staff as a handicap. Claire picks it up. Angor warns Jim that shadow magic is dangerous and corruptive, but Jim dismisses the warning (he has seen Morgana, but somehow missed her unstable state).
Angor gets his soul back in this AU and Jim captures Strickler (he talks him into changing sides eventually. However, Jim still goes to the Darklands alone - simply because he believes he shouldn't needlessly endanger any of his allies (and everyone will give piece of their mind about it later).
Much like in the canon, Jim gets Enrique out but gets captured and the bridge is destroyed. As Aaarrrgghh never temporarily dies here, Angor is the one who offers his body as a vessel for Kanjigar (as having no soul for some time made him a fitting candidate for a medium.)
Gunmar is still out, and eventually, the time comes to contact Merlin. It's something that Jim is heavily against. Merlin is on his shit list, much like Arthur. Jim begrudgingly agrees in the end, but only after Claire gets possessed by Morgana.
Speaking about the possession, Jim unwittingly creates a telepathic link with Claire after traveling to the Shadow Realm and now they both can sense each other's emotions. Claire figures out that Jim is hiding something from her and others and talks Jim into confessing his true identity. And somehow, without the burden of that secret, Jim feels much better.
The team finally goes searching for Merlin as Jim steels himself for the meeting. He doesn't plan to reveal himself to Merlin, hoping that somehow everything will be fine, but Merlin learns his identity at once, sensing the Arcane Order energy in him.
Merlin doesn't trust Jim in this AU, thinking that Jim fakes the love for humanity. Merlin has known only past Jim who was full of destructive urges and he believes that nothing has changed.
Jim is willing to swallow his pride and actually ask Merlin for help. He feels that he needs his full power to fight Gunmar, but Merlin tells him it's impossible to break the spell that turned Jim into a human. Jim suspects it's a lie and Merlin simply doesn't want to cooperate (which is true as Merlin believes that full-power Jim is a way bigger danger for humanity). Merlin gives a different suggestion - he will help Jim temporarily unleash more of his magic, but as a side-effect, his abilities will be sealed for good afterward. It's not an easy decision for Jim, but he agrees.
The thing that neither Jim nor Merlin has anticipated is that when the Green Knight attacks and Jim is hit with the obsidian shard, both Merlin's seal and Jim's spell start to deteriorate, bringing Jim's original form and powers back (ironically, it happens when Jim comes in terms with his new mortal status). Moreover, when Jim cast the spell he was a child deity, but now he is close to an adult one and is even more powerful. The Green Knight has no control over him, but Bellroc and Skrael actually can manipulate his mind, seizing control and bringing Jim back to the Order.
Nari prompts Claire to use the telepathic link to reach Jim and she manages to help him break free.
Now it's two Order members vs two. Nari goes against Skrael and Jim fights Bellroc, while the team deals with the Green Knight.
Jim doesn't get Excalibur here - he leaves it for someone who will be humanity's champion. He and Nari decide to work together and actually build a world where humans and magical beings live together.

The Aftermath of the Battle of Killahead and the Green Knight for the Wip Ask game please! ♡
Thanks for the ask!
📄 The Aftermath of the Battle of Killahead
At some point in *checks file date* 2021 when I was doing a rewatch of Wizards for note taking purposes, I was possessed with the urge to write what happened to Bellroc after they magicked themself away when the Trollhunter blinded them at the battle of Killahead. If I remember correctly I wrote most of what's there in a single day at a feverish pace, and have been adding drips and drabs ever since, waiting for the rest of everything that comes before it is finished.
I cannot remember if I've shared anything from this here, but here is a tantalising sample:
It had been an unthinking decision. Bellroc clutched at their face, unable to stop the liquid fire that poured down their cheeks. They backed as far as they could into the wall, knocking over tools and ingots in their fury, screaming from the shock and pain of it. They thrashed explosively and without decision, the mortal instincts they had spend aeons trying quash bent and snapped them like a twig. They wrenched the feathered cape from their shoulders, tugging and yanking at the insufferable artifice that made their skin crawl with dread, stripping everything that could be easily removed. In their heart they were still surrounded by trolls who barely seemed to notice the flames that cooked the flesh from their bones. Their arms ached, remembering struggling in their grasp. Bellroc’s breath hitched as they remembered their forge for not just a place of a comfort and pawed shakily over familiar surfaces rendered strange and alien within an instant. They tested edges with the tips of their fingers, nicking themself several times over as they shakily found the exact blade for which they sought.
📄 The Green Knight
I am unsure if you remember our discussions about why ToA decided to depict The Green Knight... like that, and my theory as to why and how they backed themselves into a characterisation corner, by making Nari as they did.
But basically, The Green Knight is my take on what they should've done, or rather, what is more interesting to me based on the source material. So Nari is the Green Knight, and also Gawain is gender as hell.

an order is a group. a society. a community, institution, whatever.
let’s see. troll-jim is no longer under the order’s control. morgana defects from the order and later dies. the green knight is dead. nari defects from the order and later dies.
the arcane ‘order’ is just bellroc and skrael??
(admittedly, ‘the arcane duo’ doesn’t sound as intimidating. the arcane couple? pair? did you know doubleton is a synonym for couple?)

Court of Darkness: Starbucks Orders
Tumblr media
What Starbucks drinks would the Court of Darkness consorts and main characters order? Find out below! ☕️
Guy and Jasper
Guy always gets black coffee, no sugar, no cream. Consumes only premium coffee blends. Grumbles loudly that Jasper’s Avari red coffee is clearly superior.
Baristas ask Jasper for tips and tricks on brewing coffee. Upon hearing this, Lance begrudgingly informs the baristas to be wary of letting him make drinks unsupervised, unless they want additional potions added to them.
Toa and Knight
When drinking in public, Toa orders a black coffee, no cream 5 sugars. If Toa gets the drink delivered to him and he drinks in the privacy of his quarters—Caramel ribbon frappe crunch, extra caramel, extra crunchy toppings, extra whip cream.
Toa frequently orders one cat-shaped cake-pop for Knight. Knight complains each time, lamenting he’s not a child. Toa ignores the complaints, since Knight says them while polishing off the cake-pop.
Lynt and Tino
If ordering alone, Lynt gets a bottle of natural spring mineral water. If Lynt is ordering with Tino…Lynt still reaches for a bottle of water, but after hearing Tino lament over the prince’s lack of desire to consume anything, he’ll grab an iced green tea. Lynt drinks three sips of tea before giving it to Tino.
Regardless of the weather, Tino gets the classic hot chocolate and pours the beverage in a mug passed down from his grandmother.
Fenn and Violet
Fenn has tried EVERY drink at least once. Flirts with baristas shamelessly to get extra shots of vanilla or espresso in his drinks. Is personally responsible for half of the secret drink menu items such as the purple drink, the raspberry cheesecake Frappuccino, the sour patch kids drink, and the apple martini refresher.
Regardless of which drink he orders, Fenn always orders a second drink—a mango dragonfruit refresher. This drink is given to Violet, who often combines the drink with Luxuran blue wine before going out on a date.
Roy, Sherry, and Grayson
Roy has tried every tea drink on the menu, including those on the secret drink menu. He always adds a few Invidian tea leaves to his tea. When Roy doesn’t have tea, he usually orders the pink drink with extra strawberries.
When he goes out with Sherry, Roy smiles indulgently and gets two unicorn Frappuccinos, with extra whip cream and raspberry syrup.
Grayson refuses to imbibe in the unicorn drink, despite Sherry’s pleas. Grayson on a sugar high is nearly as eventful as Grayson imbibing alcohol.
Rio and Thoma
On more than one occasion, Rio has paid for the drink order of the person behind him. Will happily drink anything and often asks the barista for their favorite drink and choose that.
When it’s Fall though, Rio orders only pumpkin spice lattes or Frappuccinos. All hail Rio, the prince of pumpkin spice. Thoma, conversely, DESPISES pumpkin spice, with a passion of a thousand fiery suns. Thoma LOVES Apple crisp Frappuccinos.
Lance
Refuses to contribute money to the soulless corporate machine known as Starbucks. Nope.
Dia, Jay, and Lou
Dia never picks up his orders in person. Jay picks up a very berry hibiscus lemonade on behalf of his young charge and then gets an Earl Grey tea for himself. The pair then split an order of kale and mushroom egg bites. Dia’s mood sours greatly if the egg bites are not available.
The other half of the secret drink menu not made by Fenn was created by Lou. Often, Lou will simply point to random ingredients near the barista and ask if they can be combined.
No Lou, don’t combine espresso and lemonade. Just don’t.

The court of darkness men as ugly fashion pieces I hate
Guy-
Guy looks like a fedora guy, and I don't like Fedoras. Wearing this just makes you look like an old grandpa I'm sorry.
Tumblr media
Fenn-
He thinks he's such a fashionista. What's the point in wearing pants if your whole leg is exposed anyway. Jeans with too many holes are an ick. I want to cut through all the holes and leave just one giant hole.
Tumblr media
Toa-
He wears these elf looking shoes thinking he's so cool. Who even designed this? Why is it so flat and pointy and peeling off at the back??? I'm sorry but this looks like the kind of shoes Jesus wore in his lifetime.
Tumblr media
Lynt-
Christmas shirts. This looks like something Tino gave to Lynt to wear as pyjamas to increase his festive spirit. It's arguably not as bad as the other ones
Tumblr media
Roy-
Ugly platform crocs. I know he wears these in his house when he's alone. He probably has a charm collection too that he puts on the crocs in a rotation. The finest invidian craftsmanship wasted on this monstrosity
Tumblr media
Rio-
Jorts. I actually hate jorts. They're just not long and not short and it bothers me??? Jeans were not meant to be this length. I have no words. Tino probably wears these on his day offs too.
Tumblr media
Knight-
Doesn't this sweater remind you of knight? I'm sorry Knight, but rainbow argyle...... it's an interesting design choice.
Tumblr media
Jasper-
This skeleton onesie just reminds me of Jasper. I don't think he'd actually wear this, but he probably has one in the back of his closet.
Tumblr media
Lou-
Tumblr media
Poor Lou. He asked what was in with the young people these days and they told him Gucci. So he went and bought this thing. Why is this Gucci stripe still being implemented into their products. It's just so out of place and random. Like why does there have to be red and green in the middle??? I can't afford Gucci, but I'm still a hater 😙

I need some Hot Crow Takes on what was the worst example of Villain Decay throughout ToA. also on what Leonora Janeth uses in her hair
send me a meta prompt (currently closed); thank you for the ask!
the arcane and esoteric mysteries of janeth's haircare regimen are beyond my humble (straight-haired) supposings. but for the villain decay? oh, morgana, hands down.
gunmar is spooky, but a bit of a ham. for most of trollhunters, he’s also relatively distant. bular is a lot closer, and much more of an immediate threat, but he’s always ultimately subordinate (either to stricklander or his father) and he does, in the end, get got by a teenager. angor is initially presented as terrifying, and rightly so, but even if he becomes sympathetic he’s always formidable; stricklander starts out pretty nefarious (especially if you think about some of the implications of e.g. feeding bular a human security guard) but is of course, in proper gdt fashion, domesticated by wuv. obviously i have niche side blorbo brain fungus re: the arcane order but it's hard to assess their actual "villain decay" without having to think about That Film. at any rate, i don't think they're actually the worst example in toa: despite a concept/design that fucks so absolutely severely, once they get on screen, they're not actually built up all that much (or...well). it takes them less than the space of an episode (22 minutes) to go from "dread, ancient terrors that even merlin is afraid of" to "merlin shooing away them, the green knight, and their evil floating skull castle with less effort than he usually spares to criticize douxie." but that's another post.
morgana, though. part of what made her such a compelling villain was how little arthur figured in trollhunters. the existence of merlin implies the existence of arthur, of course, but in trollhunters arthur isn't there at all. instead, we get the negative space of him: his right hand (merlin) and the anti-arthur (morgana). obviously this is partly her role in arthuriana proper, but it also strikes me as pretty deliberate here: merlin's liege vs. merlin's student (and that liege's sister); humanity's last best hope vs. the queen of the otherworld; the king under the mountain vs. the witch under arcadia. i was not very tuned into morgana when i first got into trollhunters, but looking back over the series for this ask, the parallels are so obvious. and so tight! i wouldn't be surprised if some of this was even deliberate.
and the thing is: trollhunters has enough space as a series that its antagonists don't really have to pull their punches. morgana was nasty in trollhunters. pale lady, baba yaga, eldritch queen, mother of monsters—holy shit, right? and she's creepy, too: all muttering whispers and dread ancient magic! she takes angor’s soul, and then his free will. she taunts stricklander while possessing the body of one of his students (while threatening the permanent exile of two more to the depression dimension), and then in the guise of the human he's in love with. speaking to her faithful children—who only exist through morally dubious, unpleasant processes, for which she is implied to be responsible—via institutional heirloom phonograph! she's so much more connected to the shadow realm, here, probably the most compelling justification for reading shadow magic as dangerous. she's the big bad behind angor and gunmar (while playing them both against each other). she absolutely feels evenly paired with merlin, and (rightly) kicks his ass through most of the battle of the eternal night. she's evil but charismatic and even despite all that still a little human: when she taunts jim for not knowing merlin used her hand for the amulet, it isn't without a shadow of what must have been an ancient hurt.
and then. wizards. jesus christ (tired ben affleck smoking dot jpg)

Random lore time:
So time, time travel, etc is a big piece in Tales of Arcadia and way back when I made some post referring to it.
Those post here and here.
Minor warning, I’ll be delving into some non-canon things and multiverse theory so if you’re adamant about keeping the fragile time space continuum of ToA intact, leave now.
This lore headcanon is just simply stating there are 4 main timelines:
Timeline A (Prime)
Our timeline, where everything from A to B happens (Trollhunters to RotT) with the potential added bonus of the books depending on your persuasion.
Now as everyone unfortunately remembers, Jim goes back in time to the beginning of his time as the Trollhunter and makes Toby the Trollhunter instead, shoving them into…
Timeline B
Trollhunter Toby.
Now this timeline can be split into two timelines as it was left unclear whether or not Jim still has the Magitech Amulet.
Timeline B1 says he doesn’t. Making Toby the official Trollhunter meaning events may occur differently
Timeline B2 says he does. Still making Jim a Trollhunter, but not of the current timeline (Like how Deya and Jim worked) meaning events will occur almost exactly the same.
In the case of Timeline B1, it could be theorized that the amulet has a small amount of sway over the new timeline (Jim upon leaving had intended on giving the amulet to Toby so the timeline was slightly altered in Toby’s favor, so things like school starting later, Toby being able to climb the rope, the amulet choosing him, etc.)
Now for the weird bits…
So as some of you may know, Tales of Arcadia released a game, Defenders of Arcadia.
It take place on Jim’s 17th birthday (roughly a year has passed from the events of Trollhunters and 3Below and Wizards presumably didn’t occur, so Jim never encountered the Green Knight, went back in time, became Beast Jim and Human again.) and Porgon attacks him, Claire, and Merlin, sending them back in time to Jim’s 16th birthday. So now Jim, Claire, and Merlin have to track Porgon down to fix the time mess and return to the correct time period.
Big issue is that the game has a lot of wild inconsistencies (probably cause of the time mess, who knows) but anyway, this leads to…
Timeline C
A timeline where the events of Wizards potentially never occurred.
Now this does not delete any of the Wizards characters from the universe exactly. (Well, maybe the Arcane Order, but…)
Things in this timeline are pretty vague as things such as whether or not they made it to Jersey’s Trollmarket, whether or not Jim ever actually got the armor of, and if Claire can do magic without the shadow staff are left in the air.
Now similar to Timeline A Jim, Timeline C Jim (with the addition of Claire and Merlin) are sent back to the early days of Jim’s Trollhunting career. Which then brings upon…
Timeline D
Everything up to “Bittersweet Sixteens” happens as it should except that possibly during it… this timeline’s Jim is possible fighting the Stalkling alone as this timelines Trollhunter team is in Trollmarket. (It could be assumed Timeline D Jim was aided by Timeline D Draal however as Draal is not present in Trollmarket)
This timeline also has the addition of a few weird elements such as:
Strickler is in Trollmarket
Dictatious is in Trollmarket, is not blind, and is not working for Gunmar
Angor is in Merlin’s tomb (Also unknown if Timeline D’s Merlin is awake)
Aja and Krel are on Earth
Morgana is free from the Heartstone
Also in this timeline, the Jims never meet. Additionally, this timeline is considered to be a sort of timeloop (Not sure how long it last, but apparently upon defeating Porgon, Merlin sends Jim C back to his timeline (C) to which he and Claire will forget everything that happened in Timeline D)
In conclusion, please leave your timeline alone, as you can see, there are 4-5 timelines with duplicate Jims running around so be careful.

Hi! Here's a slight angsty idea. What if Jim was taken at four and raised by Bellroc and Skreal due to them finding out he would be the next trollhunter?
Wow, an angsty idea, indeed!
I say that the Arcane Order will do everything to disconnect Jim from humanity. Obviously, there will be indoctrination about humans being vile and wretched creatures, the true scum of the planet, only deserving to be exterminated. I also feel that Bellroc and Skrael will pour their magic into Jim, attempting to alter his species as well, though they pick a gradual approach, so that Jim still ages like a human and they have their champion ready fast enough.
Obviously, Jim is oblivious that he's one of loathsome humans - he thinks he simply looks like one. He believes that Bellroc and Skrael are his true parents, and as he has some control over both ice and fire, it seems plausible.
Green Knight is Jim's sword teacher in this AU, and he's the only member of the Arcane Order Jim doesn't like as Green Knight is rather hostile and cold towards him. Jim also joins Green Knight on his missions where he either hunts Merlin's associates or looks for Nari and is forced to kill people there.
However, Jim doesn't follow the Order's indoctrination blindly. Seeing the human society on his missions makes him question if humans are actually that irredeemable as he sees some good sides rather regularly. Bellroc and Skrael simply explain it with 'the humans are just that good in hiding their viles'.
The Order initially doesn't go for 'let's start a magic apocalypse'. They keep it as a last reserve, planning to bet everything on Morgana's plan (which is teaming up with Gunmar). They are fine as long as humanity is erradicated.
Bellroc and Skrael decide to team up with the Janus Order and put Jim there as their representative and supervisor (they are the only party that knows about the latter though). Nevertheless, Stricklander feels that something is off and takes Jim to live with him (and enrolls him in the school) to have him busy and under constant surveillance. Strickler isn't that sure what kind of being Jim is, but he can bet that Jim is at least partially human (much to Jim's chagrin). They have a lot of arguments about humanity.
Jim meets Toby in the school and befriends him (well, more like Toby forces himself into the friend position, and Jim has no idea how to say 'no'). He also sees Claire and starts to develop feelings for her (which he cannot explain and is a bit scared of). Barbara is Strickler's girlfriend in this AU, so Jim meets her when she visits. Barbara believes that her son is dead, but talking to Jim invokes some odd familiarity (and Jim feels the same).
All those new connections make Jim waver a lot. In the end, he isn't evil - he's still a rightful guy who believes he does the right thing, protecting magic creatures from humans.
And he also cannot escape from his fate as he finds the amulet one day. The right thing from his point of view should have been delivering it to Strickler, but Jim decides to keep it and play his own game. He pretends to be the enemy of Bular and the protector of the Trollmarket, claiming it's for giving the Janus Order more space and time for finishing Killahead in peace. He promises to bring the amulet after that.
Yet new bonds with both humans and good trolls make Jim question all his previous actions, and he betrays Arcane Order at the last second, choosing to walk his own path and decide for himself.
Bellroc and Skrael don't know about it for a while as Jim keeps reporting to them finding plausible excuses. Only after Jim contacts Merlin and slays Gunmar, they realize that Jim, like Nari, has abandoned them.
The Arcane Order is deadset on returning and punishing Jim afterward (much like Nari) as he is a family member for them.

A Year in Writing; 2023 — A Retrospective
This year really fucking sucked for me, and thanks to most people deciding they don't care about covid and virus prevention any more, I spent a not insignificant amount of 2023 sick from entirely preventable diseases and chasing medical care. Still I wrote when I could, and what I lacked in quantity I made up for in persistence.
Behind the scenes I split Untitled Camelot fic into smaller, more manageable wips that I can slowly begin to publish when I'm ready. And god I came SO CLOSE to finishing Under the Wave, but it just wasn't to be with the luck I've had.
The Heart of Janus, Published:
June 17 - Honey and Lemon Returned from Hiatus (E) August 12 - Under the Wave Returned with 5 Chapters (M) November 11 - The Grave of the Felled Forest Launched (T) December 2 - Honey and Lemon Returned from Hiatus (E)
The Heart of Janus, Wips:
Camelot Fic; The Green Knight
Under the Sun — Part Two: The Daughters of Magic
Under the Sun — Part Three: The Pursuit of Stone
Arcadian Witch (aka Witch!Lenora Fic)
The Homework Squad (Multiple PoV; Coach Lawrence, Uhl, Janeth, Strickler)
Dungeons and Dragons, Published:
July 5-August 5 - Web of Starlight Returned from Hiatus with 4 more chapters
Dungeons and Dragons, Wips:
Web of Starlight
Doctor Robin Antimony
Doctor Beauregard Aubin Marceau Thibault-Babineaux
Stats
Overall Word Count: 112096
Highest Word Count in a Day: 3364 (August 29)
Average Word Count on a Writing Day: 849
Priority Project: 33692 (Heart of Janus)
Other Projects: 78404 (Web of Starlight, Robin, & a Secret Third Thing)
What I Learnt as a Writer in 2023:
Disabilities are disabling especially when it's inconvenient to you personally.
You cannot force words when you're unable.
It's fine to hold off on publishing something until you have the spoons to go back and polish it to a level you're satisfied with sharing.
How to publish anonymously on Ao3 using the anonymous collective.
Writing Goals for 2024:
Finish Under the Wave (I'm onto the final arc) and move onto Publishing The Green Knight.
Experiment with Drabbles.
Split up non-ToA notes and prose in the future.
Health willing, schedule time to read and art also.
Enjoy life

Yeah, I don’t know what to call this. I started off talking about Fenn being a flirting menace and it ended with Toa fanfiction.
Tumblr media
I do wish Toa created firmer boundaries with Fenn when it comes to Knight. Something like this...((You’ll have to excuse my attempt to write Toa in the first person...and the length. It was only meant to be a short 100 word flash fiction, but it ended up being 5 times as long because I’m a verbose pain in the ass. >_>; ))
I sat in the S Rank lounge reading my favorite book yet again. I always found something new with each read though, and was curious what I would discover this time. I turned the page noting the only other sounds in the room being the delicate clinks of Roy’s teacup when he placed it on its saucer and Lynt’s soft snores. Guy was, thankfully, absent, which made for an improved atmosphere. The afternoon was perfectly delightful until a blood curling scream caused me to jump three feet in the air. Roy sputtered. Some tea had gone down the wrong pipe at the sudden sound. Lynt burrowed deeper in his blanket cocoon in an attempt to shut out the unwelcome noise.
“Toa!”
I sighed when I realized the source of the racket was my own valet. I looked up just in time to see him scramble to the other side of my chair effectively placing me between him and what I assumed was his pursuer.
“Toa!” There were tears in Knight’s eyes as he screeched, “He’s done it again!”
I noted his hands behind his back protecting his posterior. I turned my gaze toward the door. As I surmised, there stood the perpetrator.
“I’ll have you know I do no appreciate harassment of my staff,” I grumbled as the Luxurian prince sauntered toward me.
“I can hardly help it, what with his cute little squeaks.” He flashed me a grin that would have melted the hearts of two thirds of the school’s student population. However, it only served to harden my icy glare.
“From this day forward, I demand you aim all of your excess chaotic energy towards me rather than my valet.”
“An invitation?” Fenn pushed his hip into the side of my chair as he looked down at me.
I held up my hardcover book, making a show of its thick spine. “A dare.” I made an oath to not fight Avari. That promise did not extend to Fenn.
The Luxurian prince twirled a lock of his hair as he stared at my book and considered my proposition. He admitted defeat with a sigh. “An interesting proposal, Toa, but I fear I am not terribly eager to engage with something that has a girth of that magnitude.” He winked at me and smirked at his own lewd joke. “Well, today at least. Perhaps another time.”
“Fenn.”
Every head turned in Lynt’s direction. The sleepy prince’s head was poking out of his blanket. He blinked, clearly struggling to stay away. “Nap with me?”
Unable to decline an offer for physical contact, Fenn made his way over to the Akedian prince. I watched as he slid onto the settee next to Lynt and promptly disappeared under the thick, green blanket. Peace returned to the lounge. That was no doubt Lynt’s aim, but I was unable to determine if that move of Lynt’s was brilliant or foolishly naive. As I mulled over those possibilities, I heard a soft, “Thank you,” from Knight.
I turned my attention back to my book. “You may return to your duties,” I responded in an even tone. “Yes, sir.”
I could see admiration in his smile in the corner of my eye before he left. My lips pressed together to form a tight line so that I might have continued to portray the stoic prince as is expected of me.

Court of Darkness: Picture Perfect
Tumblr media
Description: Lou distributes Saligia equivalents of cameras throughout Colde. He announces a contest where prizes will be awarded if a picture of a prince is captured with a specific action or emotion associated with that prince.
Below are short stories of each prince and their picture. @voltagefandomproject for Voltage Fandom Content Creation Challenge
*Story inspiration based on CoD post from @jaysquid about consorts taking bad pictures 🙂
GUY - SMILE
You thought Guy was grumpy before this contest? Ha!
Guy’s scowl is now virtually permanent. His fan club follows him everywhere. Jasper changes the locks to Guy’s room several times due to students entering his private quarters to try and capture a hidden smile. Guy’s scowling does not deter his fan club—if anything, it spurs them more (“Guy’s scowls are so beautiful!” *Cue further scowling from Guy*).
Roy and Jasper come up with a plan. Roy distracts Guy’s fan club while Jasper suggests to his master that he take his dragon Ertl out for a flight. The next day, Jasper submits anonymously to Lou a picture of Guy sporting a small smile as he rides Ertl and enjoys a moment of quiet with his familiar.
A cursed lock is set on Guy’s chambers to keep his fan club out. More than a few women are seen sporting burnt hair and green skin from trying to pick the lock.
Roy and Jasper are each sent an exquisite tea set with various Invidian teas and Avari red coffee blends. The gift sender is a “mystery” but Lou smiles as he watches Roy and Jasper converse over tea and coffee with Guy from his crystal ball.
LYNT - ENTHUSIASM
People are at a loss as to what pictures would show enthusiasm for Lynt. Enthusiasm implies passion, and passion implies desire—beyond sleeping, Lynt had never shown desire for anything else.
Numerous people decide to make Lynt look as excited as possible while sleeping. Since Lynt has so many public napping spots (chairs in the library, public benches, classroom chairs, clearings behind bushes in the gardens, etc), students place balloons, party hats, and streamers all around Lynt in his regular sleeping haunts and take pictures of him among the party decorations.
While Lou is amused at this turn of events, he does not accept these pictures. Tino is NOT amused. Now he has to find his erstwhile Master, get him wakeful enough to teach his classes on time, AND clean up a bunch of party supplies through the entire Academy. Tino enters the valet quarters a little over a week into the competition and has a complete meltdown over all the extra work.
The door opens to the valet’s quarters and Lynt emerges, eyes full of concern. Lynt gives Tino a cup of cocoa and grasps his hands. “Chino, please don’t worry.”
Grayson and Knight gasp. They recognize Lynt’s enthusiastic concern as concern their princes have shown for them when they are overworking or doubting themselves (Roy with Grayson) or when others are relentlessly cruel or critical of them (Toa with Knight). Both men quietly take a picture of Lynt caring for Tino and leave the room to allow the Akedian men time alone.
Lou gives Grayson a basket of Star carrots and a new saddle for his horse Nox. Knight receives a basket of toys and food to give to the cats at the peer. Lou also gives Knight a list of Coldish people who might be interested in adopting some of the less feral peer kitties.
FENN - COMPANIONSHIP
Lou’s office is flooded with pictures of Fenn on dates with people (and in various stages of undress). A few of the photos show Fenn winking at the camera. Fenn submits a photo of him and a dating companion from the waist up, limbs and mouths entangled, with a “Will this suffice Lou?” message scrawled at the bottom. Lou shakes his head.
“Try harder,” says Lou. “I know you’re capable of this. Better than most of the princes, in fact.”
“Harder? My date will be quite pleased with that!” Lou sighs as Fenn leaves, unrepentant.
The next day, Sherry submits a photo of Fenn. It is one where Fenn comforts Violet after she has had a horrible date. Fenn had canceled his dating plans to ensure Violet was well. The picture shows not the flippant jocularity he is known for in public, but a thoughtful friend offering a shoulder to cry on.
Lou declares Sherry the victor and gives her a bottle of Luxuran blue wine. “I know who I’d like to share this prize with,” Sherry exclaims.
“I thought you might say that.” Lou smiles and brings out a second bottle of wine. “While Master Luxure and Miss Violet will appreciate the gesture, please ensure they don’t enjoy it too much.”
TOA - CONTENTMENT & PEACE
Toa orders students to stop taking photos during class because NO ONE manages to pay attention during lectures otherwise. Unfortunately, this means people follow Toa everywhere after class to take pictures of him. Toa is clearly annoyed at the attention, but as long as the photos are taken in public places, he cannot stop them.
Two weeks into the contest, Toa is in the S:Rank lounge reading a letter from his sister Idina. Fenn strides into the lounge to see Toa tapping his fingers on the couch cushions.
“Your admirers are waiting for you outside the lounge!” Fenn chuckles as he sits next to Toa.
“I cannot escape them unless I am in here, in my room, or giving a lecture.” Irritation rolls off of Toa. He gestures to the letter. “And now my sister is demanding to know why Avari has finished this ridiculous contest but not me.”
Fenn drops a book in Toa’s lap. It’s a copy of the latest book in a romance series Toa is reading. “The ending is absolutely delightful. It might give you some inspiration your future partner will appreciate!” Fenn laughs and walks away, knowing Toa will not read the book if he remains nearby. 30 minutes later, Toa is so engrossed in the book that he does not notice Fenn taking a picture of him reading.
Lou awards Fenn tickets to a Coldish ballet performance, to make up for Fenn’s missed date when he was comforting Violet.
ROY - HAPPINESS
Roy patiently allows his followers to take numerous photos of himself, as long as they do not interfere with his duties. Roy encourages Grayson, Sherry, and MC to spend less time with him so that they may be spared the voracious attentions of his fan club. A loneliness spreads in Roy’s soul as no photos are approved by Lou. His smile becomes more strained with each photo submitted.
A week into the contest, Rio and Sherry deliver some books for Lou; a photo drops from Rio’s pocket. Lou picks it up and sees a off-centered blurry picture of Roy and MC sitting on a couch in the rooftop garden. MC’s head rests on Roy’s shoulder as her arms snake around his waist. Roy’s head is tilted against MC’s head as he reads a letter. The look on Roy’s face is utterly blissful.
“My camera accidentally took that picture from my pocket” admits Rio. “I’ve kept it cause it makes me happy to look at it.”
Sherry beams as she looks at the picture in Lou’s hand. “Roy recently wrote to our parents to tell them about MC and their relationship. They wrote back welcoming her to the family. This is Roy reading Father’s letter to MC.”
Lou smiles at Rio. “Congratulations on your victory. What will be your prize?” Rio is utterly baffled and asks, “Can I have the photo back?”
Lou creates 4 copies of the picture, giving one to Rio and 3 to Sherry. “Please ensure your brother and MC get a copy Miss Sherry. I think they need a reminder of where true happiness lies for them.”
RIO - FULLNESS
The moment Rio sits at a table in the dining hall with 3 plates of food with him (a multiple time a day occurrence), pictures are taken. Each time this happens, Rio smiles for the cameras, waving with one hand and snarfing a roll or stick of meat with the other. None of these pictures earn a prize.
On a whim, Thoma gives Lou a copy of a picture he recently sent to the Voleri royal family. The picture is a group photo of Rio, Sherry, MC, Roy, Grayson, Lynt, and Tino standing in the garden Thoma and Rio care for. Rio is in the center of the group, arms jovially around the shoulders of several people.
“Master Voleri’s heart is full of happiness,” chuckles Lou. He hands Thoma a giant basket of sweets as his prize. Lou then brings out a second identical basket. “This basket might quell your Master’s hunger for a few days.”
“More like a few hours,” Thoma replies.
LANCE - GENTLENESS
For three weeks, not a single picture is submitted for Lance. His elusiveness and anger keep people from snapping his picture.
One picture is submitted and subsequently accepted by Lou. It is taken by Professor Hawke as he’s entering a bar. He spots Lance in a nearby side street with a protective arm around the shoulders of a child, the child’s head covered with a hood. Lance smiles gently at the child as he gives him several books and a basket of food.
“Our lone wolf has quite the caring side,” says Lou.
“Too bad he doesn’t show it to us,” quips Hawke. “Now, I heard the Invidian princess got blue wine as a prize. How about giving me something stronger, eh?”
