I feel bad for all the nice J*nsa shippers who like their ship for whatever reasons (tropes, pretty art, aesthetic appeal, whatever) and know it's not canon but get associated with the misogynistic Dany hating crowd who act like Jon being attracted to Ygritte is J*nsa foreshadowing because red hair (I guess Jon should fuck Edmure Tully too? Omg give me Dark!Jon getting revenge on Catelyn by seducing her brother!) Tell me something. I'm new to the fandom but was J*nsa popular before the show? And I've heard something about the OG J*nsa shippers being alienated by the new shippers who insisted it had to be canon and acted like the series is called, "A song of J*nsa #danysux." I don't find that hard to believe because I know people who are now ashamed of calling themselves J*nsa shippers. Like, at this point, it's not only rival shippers who hate it. Even Gendrya/Braime/Jon stans/etc have started disliking that ship. You know your fandom is a problem when people who have nothing to do with Jnsa have a problem with it.

disclaimer: as anon says I have no issue with like the shippers mentioned by anon in the beginning and ngl I agree, I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO FUCKING STAKES in the j*nsa vs j*nerys war and the only het jon ship I gaf about is jon/ygritte and we all know where that ended up I just... have been here since 2011/adwd was over and all the fic around was just for the books under secret lj communities and asoiaf qualified for yuletide and I have... seen... things.... and I actually have like uh had... beef... with some people in there and I know things bc ppl who hated those others told me stuff so anyway *sigh* buckle up anon I'mma tell you the story of jon shipwars through the years

in order, the old gods help me here, under the cut bc this is long as fuck

when I got into fandom also given what numbers were on ao3 one ship was popular and it was sansan. no like sansan was lit. the only asoiaf ship on ao3 with more than 200 fics. jb had twenty when i checked first. jc had like around 100-ish because of the show but sansan dwarfed anything. I posted the first jon/ygritte fic on the ao3 tag and the fourth throbb fic and like the others were all reposts from lj kinkmemes. nothing was popular before the show except for sansan when it comes to huge numbers bc grrm doesn't like fic and it was all hush hush until the show made it impossible to control and that ship was the one with a huge enough fanbase it actually had numbers, so like... j*nsa wasn't popular in the way nothing else was popular until it got screentime on the show

now, that stated, j*nsa had a... fair amount of fic for a rareship which was mostly book-based and from og shippers that were there from before the show and liked it for what it was but literally none of them thought it was gonna be canon, like it wasn't huge or anything but it had a small but dedicated fanbase who did their own thing and thought it was fun/liked the idea but that was it

that fandom had their own niche of hcs that they cultivated and shit except that like... at the end of S5/beginning of S6 there was a surge in shipping for... well obvious reasons bc it was obv sansa was getting to the wall and that would have been all nice and good but a) it was the time puritanical shipping was starting to take root and the 'shipping sansa with sandor or tyrion is hella problematic' rhetoric had started to circle coming from sans*ery shippers mostly but I'mma not open that fucking can of worms here, b) while the ending of S5 had more of a theon/sansa spike, the j*nsa stuff started getting big

now here we have to mention my villain origin story ie: j*nsa fandom had this one stan whose name I won't make because honestly it's been years and if she's still around I don't want her to remember I exist who was a bnf, wrote for... the website that created the whole larry/carol thing etc who was really fixed on this thing that j*nsa was actually canon and started writing extremely popular meta about it. now you're gonna ask how do you know, I know because this person once wrote a meta named 'why robb stark is a dick' and I told her that it was really fucking bad meta and she took it so badly she kept on trash talking me on her blog/her podcast (I was apparently the insane robb stark fangirl l m a o good lord) and like that was when some sane ppl who argued with her informed me in pvt that she was basically harping on the CANON thing when they'd have been okay with like... it being crackshipping and that she was basically cultivating a hoarde of followers who were harping on them/the ogs and basically ostracizing them;

I would like to add that this person - before her tumblr got 'accidentally deleted' and remade it therefore deleted most receipts for, er, her so-called meta which included stuff like ned and cat raised sansa as a sexual object and only wanted to sell her like cattle - had at some point started a round robin fic thing where... some of the characters mocked openly said stuff that some of the og fans had said specifically targeting them and people in that side basically went harassing anyone who didn't agree with that specific notion

now never mind that this person basically coined an entire term to describe ppl who liked white guys and excused all their wrongdoings out of my conversation re robb basically lying about everything I said as if I didn't have the receipts and tried to sell shirts with it and it didn't work and like then she got kicked out of her own website because she was telling her commenters disagreeing pretty shitty insults (considering I was called psychotic for disagreeing with her that time I don't doubt it) I think at some point she stepped back from fandom bc idk wtf she's up to these days and I don't want to, but basically at that point the dam was broken and there was a bunch of puritanical shippers harping on anyone who didn't agree with j*nsa is canon endgame stuff

this also includes an incident when those ppl were like... passing themselves as throbb shippers and ended up trying to tell t*hramsay shippers off the theon tag based on moral reasons and I ended up arguing with all of them (and they were all from that crowd) which in turn landed me in contact with other og j*nsa shippers who were like detached from that fandom bc those same people harassed them away as well ssooooo fun

anyway when S6 happened everyone was high on it and whatnot but I wasn't gonna begrudge them that I mean... you shipped it for years, canon is delivering you, good for you, but then j*nerys happened

god j*nerys happened

aaand basically...... I mean personally I was there like are y'all seriously arguing about the best incest jon ship out there but like basically the j*nsa endgame side was like AH JON IS PLAYING DANY SEE IF IT DOESN'T HAPPEN, the j*nerys obv got defensive af and both sides were sort of alternatively shitting on jon/ygritte anyway and depicting any other romantic rship jon could have as abusive™ and during S8 it just got worse and like I tried to stay out of it but basically from what I'm seeing now idk how the j*neryses are doing but on the j*nsa one it's ah jon's gonna play dany anyway and she's going to go insane like in the show so SHOW TRUTHING EVERY OTHER WAY and like again denying that sandor exists or that tyrion exists and like I barely touch my corner (sansan) but I ended up arguing with j*nsa/th*nsa people on twitter who were antis and is2g it was white-hair inducing and I know for sure the sansa/tyrion shippers were harassed to hell and back throughout so FUN

and even if the show didn't go there now since everyone there banked on the jnsa endgame thing and admitting you're wrong is like... not a thing, they still haven't let go of it and attach to that ship any shred of evidence which honestly is grasping at straws half of the time (like... the sansa/alysanne parallels like guys please no) and which is why every other ship is starting to get fed up, attaching canon proof of stuff from other ships onto theirs see that batb argument and jb is platonic but jonsa is not nvm taking all the sansan stuff and throwing it on j*nsa but then denying that sansan has canon evidence (like guys I had to read sansa touching his shoulder when saying gregor wasn't a true knight wasn't meaningful and we were seeing things please) and blah blah blah

this also goes hand in hand with the fixation on like... villanizing dany at all costs and like is2g I have zero investment in dany or her storyline I don't even remember it and I don't particularly care abt her either way and sure af I'm not for j*nerys endgame but like.... some stuff I read is completely excessive esp when fixing on how she's a completely mad tyrant who's gonna have to be put down and like... guys no

(also there's some srs stannis hate in that corner which I honestly don't get why they even care abt stannis but I had to read stuff like ppl don't recognize that dany and stannis are the real villains in this saga and like........ idek)

I think most of the og shippers are gone or don't ship it openly bc they don't want to be attached to the drama but like I also think they're pissing off everyone else bc like... I mean a bunch of them also were down with sansa being paired with other ppl as long as it meant a good ending for her except those ppl were... like everyone but the ppl she has actual contact with in canon which meant that at some point sansa/gendry was a thing and like.... you can imagine why arya/gendry shippers & arya stans were fed up, and there's also this tendency to behave like sansa is the center of the entire saga which like these books is named a song of jon snow basically can we pls make peace with it and personally I've had it with both j*nsa and j*nerys people since they started with that dumbass JON/YGRITTE WAS AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP rhetoric but I'm also fed up with the total ignoring that sandor exists/depicting us as delusional and honestly I also was by proxy fed up from the harassing of the sansa/tyrion shippers soooooooooooo

there were also instances of 'well theon is an acceptable choice other than jon bc he can't threaten her' which... i mean we all know what that meant and I'm not even commenting it bc it's one AM and I have no force to but I don't have to explain why it's not a progressive take now do I

there were also metas about how cousin incest being legal in half of the world means that jondany is a worse incest and j*nsa doesn't count as such and I was basically there like guys please just fucking own up to it but honestly I chose to forgot where I read that and I couldn't find the link if I tried

tldr: no one wants to admit that it's not gonna be endgame which considering the amount of fic they have on ao3 is imvho useless bc they have more content than like.. anything I ship that's not jb or that's actually like canon *cries in joncon/rhaegar but I mean renly/loras is canon and has less fic than them* so idk what's the problem with enjoying that instead of insisting it's gonna be canon when not even the show validated it while show truthing anyway when the only show truthing that can be truthed is the small council made of minorities and possibly jon eventually fucking off with the wildlings but not like that but like most people who thought it wasn't gonna be endgame had left/were made to leave by the time S7 rolled by and at this point since wow isn't out yet everyone is fandom-grasping at straws to find stuff to discourse on and we're here beating dead horses *shrug*

so that's... how it is but I would again like to point out that I don't judge ppl on their shipping, I don't particularly care about this entire feud bc I only ship jon with ppl he's not related to in whichever way and I try to stay out of this mess bc I don't really care to argue with ppl who have already decided to bend canon to whatever they want and will have to realize that it's not what grrm wrote at some point but like I have a very good memory and the above rant is as objective as possible also bc again I don't literally have a stake in that race I just think romantic/endgame j*nsa is not a thing and that ppl should stay in their lane and not harping on other ppl who ship whatever in general but especially when their ship is the most popular thing in fandom in the first place /two cents

Chapter 1

warnings: honestly nothing really happens this chapter but yknow, richasfuck!reader, richasfuck!taehyung, everyone is richasfuck! ,college!au, eventual smut, skz x bts x twice x red velvet x blackpink (it’s just one member of each group so it’s not as big as it looks)

a/n: this is a pretty big project for me and also a really big crossover. this chapter is more of an intro to the characters so nothing really happens but it was super fun to write. i hope y’all like it- blue 💙

From the outside in, it seemed like you the perfect life, and you’ll admit, you did for a while. You had the perfect friend group and you guys had been friends since highschool too. You had the perfect boyfriend, emphasis on had. You had plenty of money to go around since you had earned many scholarships and started your jewlery business, which had recently taken off. Your friends we also doing really well financially and academically. It really seemed like you were finally taking control of your life, and you were the happiest you had been in a long time. That was, until you caught your boyfriend cheating on you.

After the breakup, you had become massively insecure of yourself and unsure of your path in life. It felt like your life had been completely turned upside down. But, your friends were there to help you through it. If you had describe your best friends, you would call it a healthy balance. Your friend group consisted of four boys and three girls. The boys consisted Chan, Taehyung, Jimin and Namjoon. You had been friends with Namjoon since middle school so you were bound to become friends with his friends eventually. The girls consisted of your best friends Dani, Mina, Wendy, and Jennie. You had been friends with your girls since highschool and once you found out all of you had been accepted to the same college, including Namjoons friends, you spent the summer together and got closer than ever.

You didn’t meet your boyfriend Lucas until your freshman year. When you met him, you thought you had met the man of your dreams. He was respectful of you, he didn’t create problems between your friends like some of your previous relationships. But most of all he showed you that he loved you, more than anyone had ever shown you before. That in its self was what made you fall in love with him. You felt like you were going to marry that boy, that was until the night you came home early and found your boyfriend in bed with another girl.

You were currently at the cafe in you school with your girls. After a full five days to process what had happened, you decided to pour your feelings out to your friends. “I just don’t understand what had happened between us.” You let out a sigh before taking a sip of your iced coffee.” It felt like we had so much connection and passion for each other. A whole years worth of love and trust just completely down the drain for another girl. I will admit, I have been pretty busy for the past 3 months, from working on my business and my classes. We haven’t exactly been, you know, getting it on.” You groan and let your had fall into your hands. Jennie was quick to say something, “Girl! You don’t have time to be sulking over a boy. You’re a badass and you don’’t need a boy to keep you happy. Plus, my birthday is this weekend and were going on the trip to New York and you’re gonna meet so many cuties.” You pause for a second,“Oh shit.” Your eyes go wide and you stop drinking your coffee. “What? Don’t tell me you forgot,” says Jennie. You bite your lip out of embarrassment and nod your head. Jennie lets out a small giggle before saying, “come on, Mina’s been planning this for weeks” You shake your head, “I know, I know. I’ve just been in my head for a while.” Mina is quick to respond, “It’s okay. I know you’ve been busy, you don’t have to come if you’re not ready.” “No it’s okay I’m gonna go. I’m okay now, just needed to rant and talk about it out loud.” You give Mina a small smile.

You realized how lucky you to just drop everything and take a casual trip to New York, but you didn’t grow up like that either. You grew up in an upper middle class family and you didn’t exactly financially struggle. But once you came to college and started your jewlery business, lets just say your class had gone up. Your girlfriends on the other hand had always been bit of the higher class, in other words, they were rich. Their parents being successful and big named people in all kinds of industries, they were just lucky to have been born into it. You always liked that they didn’t fluaunt their money and shove it into everyone’s faces. You had become somewhat immune to sudden or surprise trips to big cities. Knowing Jennie and Dani, you were probably gonna do some shopping today. Then, as if she read your mind, Jennie asks, “so do yall wanna go shopping or?” You all collectively nod in agreement, and get up to leave the cafe.

When you had all gotten to the mall, you decided to split up into pairs and you were now walking around with Jennie. You had first became friends with Jennie back in middle school and you were closest with her. You had seen the dozens of boys who practically threw themselves to her feet and yet she was the only single girl of the group (besides yourself.) You asked her a while ago why she never settled down with a boy and she responded with, “Boys give me attention and I like the attention but they dont give me love. I don’t want to settle for the bare minimum. I realize how many boys I could have dated and had an actual relationship with, but I don’t feel anything with them.I know I deserve love and I know i’ll meet someone, just maybe not yet. Plus the hook ups can be pretty great sometimes.” Sometimes you wish you could be as careless as her.

You guys were on your way to the stationary store to buy some stickers and other cute stationary things when Jennie blurts out, “You know. Tae has been eyeing you for sometime now.” You laugh because she has to be playing with you, but when you look over to see her serious face, you say, “That’s not possible. He doesn’t see me like that.” Jennie shakes her head, “I’m being serious!” You laugh and let her continue. “Last night I woke up and went to the kitchen and I heard him and Jimin talking about you. He was saying how you looked really good at Wendy’s party the other week and how he was gonna beat Lucas’s ass for hurting you. I think he’s gonna try to make a move on you this weekend.” You guys had now reached the store and you felt confused with what Jennie was telling you. “Jennie, friends can say that about each other. Plus, don’t you remember before I dated Lucas, Tae and I were flirting with each other and then it just stopped?” Her face turns into confusion, “Yeah, what ever happened with that?” You reach into the depths of your memory, remembering that time in your life. “Well one day, Tae just stopped flirting back and I didn’t see any reason to trying at something that wasn’t going to happen.” Jennie wasn’t about to drop all hope and she persisted, “Time has passed y/n, you of all people should know that emotions can change over time.” She gives you a face as she looks at you over a shelf in the store.

You didn’t want to think of what could have been or even of Taehyungs handsome being. Wait what? Now that Jennie had planted the idea in you mind you weren’t sure what to think anymore. “Jennie, you’re making me confused. I don’t need this right now.” She sighed, “Right. What you really need is Tae to give you some good dick.” You felt your face go red and the thoughts of Taehyungs bare body against yours flooded your mind. Jennie lets out a small scream, “YOU DO LIKE HIM!! I KNEW IT!” Groaning out of embarrassment, you grab Jennie’s hand and walk out of the store. “Okay fine. I have thought about him a couple times, even when I was with Lucas. But, I don’t want to ruin the relationship we have.” Jennie’s face softens, “Hey I know. I don’t want you to get hurt but I want you to at least try to start something with Tae. I wouldn’t give you false hope, you know that right?” You nod and promise to try. “Now please let me get some cute stuff, I need to keep my aesthetic going and now I have to actually try to look cute for someone.” Jennie laughs and agrees, taking your hand and enterlacing your fingers together and continued shopping.

but okay real talk not to actually get deep and whatever but some of you just need to learn how to say “i don’t like this ship” and move on with your blogging bc when people start pulling “d*nbrey isn’t interesting or captivating or developed at all, but you know what ship is BETTER and ACTUALLY DEVELOPED and WAY MORE DESERVING OF SCREENTIME THAN THESE WLW? [insert a ship of two characters who have barely spoken and have little to no canon romantic implications]”

like, okay, you don’t ship d*nbrey? fine! that’s cool! you probably won’t like my blog that much bc i post A Lot of d*nbrey, but i won’t begrudge you for that! you ship another side amnesty ship more than d*nbrey? also fine! also cool! you do you, my dude!

but ngl it’s kinda telling when d*nbrey (which is a ship with dynamics that have been established from the beginning with the strong implication that both dani and aubrey are romantically interested in each other and a lot of aubrey’s solo scenes have been with dani) is disregarded for other ships of characters that barely interact. like, listen, i’ve done shipping NPCs. hell, my entire blog in 2013/2014 was shipping NPCs who barely interact, and it’s fun! it’s chill! but there’s also little to no argument abt there being more canonical development for those two NPCs than for actual canon ships

like, again, you ship something else more than d*nbrey? that’s fine!!! that’s all good!!! hell, i fucking love shipping NPCs, even if they barely interact. but, like. it’s kinda :/ to be like “THIS should be the main ship instead of d*nbrey bc it’s BETTER and CANONICALLY MORE DEVELOPED” when it’s... like....... not............ and most of the development you’re talking abt is fanon content (which, again, fanon content is not Bad, a lot of fanon stuff is fun as hell, but don’t conflate fanon with canon for your argumnents)

and okay to stop beating around the bush, back in like march/april, a post was circulating that literally said “why ship d*nbrey when it’s undeveloped and forced and bad when you can ship indr*ck, which has so much better chemistry and can actually be developed” like listen im fine with indr*ck, seems chill as hell, but literally sometimes you can just say “i ship indr*ck more than d*nbrey” and be done with that. you don’t have to write essays to justify yourself. sometimes you just. don’t ship things. and that’s okay.

yes it’s been months since i’ve seen that post but yes i’m still genuinely hurt bc taz is the only piece of media to ever give me wlw content that feels like home and, ngl not to pull the lesbian card here, but i literally did not genuinely love being a lesbian until taz so yes i’m going to get bitchy and defensive and hurt and, frankly, borderline blunt w/ no bullshit when canon main wlw ships are treated as less than in comparison to other ships

i have other things i could say about how d*nbrey is treated in relation to some of the other canon (and not canon) taz ships but y’all aren’t ready for me to hit that hornets nest

anyways yes ik shit isn’t that deep and nothing matters anyway and tbh i surround myself with cool people so this isn’t really that much of a problem, but i’m protective of ships that, like, make me feel good and secure in my sexuality lmao

(and before any of you come @ me, accusing me of trying to put d*nbrey on a higher pedestal than other ships, team sw*et flips also basically saved my life and is my fave taz ship and t**kitz and bl*pjeans essentially own my heart in ways that i could talk abt for hours and h*rloane has some of the most powerful scenes in all of taz, so like. don’t bullshit me lmao.)

OH ONE FINAL THING

the next person to write a fic that isn’t at all abt d*nbrey but then still put it in the d*nbrey tag on ao3 owes me $20

jon’s relationship with the free folk vs dany’s relationship with the people of meereen + yunkai + other slavery/oppressed places is Smthg.

Dany ->

most of dany’s storyline irritates me to no end because it feels like all she has to do is blink and people will band together to praise her as if she is a holy figure. its extremely over the top and especially tasteless for reasons ill talk about later.

it also bothers me in that there is no compromising when it comes to dany’s rule. without having a conversation with any of the locals, she declares herself queen of meereen and its very obvious she mostly just sees it as “practice” for when she’ll go to take over westeros.

for a disrespectful amount of time, dany ignores, belittles, or flat out rejects most of the traditions and customs the people of the places she’s “liberated” has, and they often have had to beg her to let them continue their practices (no im not talking abt slavery obviously). one of the rare instances she finally agrees with the people’s requests, she ridiculously sells a man back into slavery somehow, instead of offering up any thoughtful alternatives for him whatsoever.

and then she expresses open disgust at one of the meereense customs (the fighting pit). now its a dubious tradition sure, but it is still extremely unsettling watching characters go “please holy mother let us keep ONE custom of ours please please” and her saying no because she finds their entire culture disgusting in the first place. basically, her ideas of “compromise” can hardly be called compromise at all. she either has people completely return to their old ways and ends up welcoming slavery back with open arms, or shuts all of their traditions down and refuses to let them keep any ounce of cultural identity.

Jon ->

jon’s storyline with the free folk, however, feels much smoother and better written. instead of them worshipping the ground he walks on, jon has to work a lot to gain their trust. and even then, he has to do so every single time he goes to them bc they dont just blindly accept him. theyre wary of those south of the wall and especially of crows so it makes sense.

the struggles dany faces are mostly just fighting against those that don’t agree with her rule and are inarguable villains (sons of the harpy t*rrorists, slavers, etc.). morality wise, theyre easy battles because you just know dany has to come out on top, it wouldnt be fair or right if she didnt. theyre unforgivable groups of people! but with jon, his struggles are in getting the free folk to band/ally/side with him instead of just conquering them and then forcing them to support “his rule”. where dany hardly compromises, compromises and meeting each other halfway is literally the whole make-up of jon’s relationship with the free folk.

its also different in that the free folk arent “villains” like the opposition dany mostly faces against, but are instead a group of people who are just victims themselves.

what i also like is that jon always shuts others down whenever they so much as try to imply he wants to rule the free folk. the idea clearly repulses him, as it should!, and he says several times throughout many seasons that the free folk would and should always only follow their own. this is why he has peace talks with mance and why he makes a deal with tormund. in comparison, if this were dany’s storyline (which it practically is just with another group of people), she’d’ve just killed mance after he refused to hand the free folk over to her.

and i think the biggest reason (and the most glaring) is the fact that the free folk, while having a few poc here and there, consist mostly of white people. meanwhile, the groups dany deals with consist mostly of characters of color, especially those that are black and brown.

the free folk and those in meereen, yunkai, etc. have a lot in common as the groups in the show that face the most prejudice. BUT narrative wise they are treated extremely differently from each other.

the free folk get depth, significant speaking roles, and most of the time are not just clumped together as one. we see distinct differences between the factions within them.

the people of meereen, yunkai, and astapor are often bunched together as just the people dany freed bc it makes her sound cooler (dany the “breaker of chains” dun dundunnn). she has missandei and grey worm, yes, but they are only from astapor. the only meereenese(?) character we get to know in depth is hizdahr but not only was he hated by literally everyone on dany’s council before he was killed, but they also had cause to feel this way bc his character and family line were assholes. to be clear, its very bad if the one (1) character from an oppressed culture with speaking lines is an asshole everybody hates and wishes death on. and we dont even know any character from yunkai in depth nor is any given a significant amount of screentime/lines.

and then basically all the stuff i said at the top already. the free folk are treated as their own people who the narrative “allows” to have their own agency without jon. meanwhile, dany conquers almost all of the cultures she’s introduced to, and the people of the 3 places named have no agency outside of worshipping her or furthering her development. they feel like mere tools to help dany improve herself rather than being distinct people, while the free folk genuinely feel like a people who keep their individuality.

its a strange contrast and i really do feel like its because the people dany is with are mostly poc meanwhile the people jon is with are mostly white. so of course the latter would get better writing, better focus, and careful handling than the former because white writers always show who they think deserves individuality and freedom, and who they think should to be the ones on their knees.

(you can only pinpoint jon’s character solely because of the difference in clothing and even that is hard to spot. otherwise, everyone is on equal ground and speaking on equal terms.)

(you can pinpoint dany’s character because they are literally holding her up higher than themselves. she is placed on a religious/spiritual pedestal. i was originally going to use a ss from the scene where the dothraki are bowing to her after she killed all the khals because i think that speaks directly to my point more, but since dany was nakey tumblr would probably k word me lol)
