okay i just have something to say

i saw an otherwise good post detailing what went down with pissbaby ceo meltdown and avery getting deleted, but then they had to sour it at the end by going "and people including predesterone are trying to make it about tma/tme but it's not about that, we need trans unity you guys" and like.

it absolutely is about transmisogyny. the harassment campaign leading up to avery getting banned was fueled by transmisogyny. why is trans women talking about the oppression we face just silly tumblr discourse to you? why does "trans unity" always have to come at the expense of trans women sitting down and shutting up about our pain? of course it's about transmisogyny, why do you think the accounts getting destroyed are trans women??

like you're going to tell avery, predesterone, the trans woman whose harassment and blog deletion are at the center of all of this, that she's hurting "trans unity" by making this about transmisogyny? newsflash assholes it's been about transmisogyny the whole time!!

This isn't meant as a sort of bright side to the predstrogen ban (a woman had her entire online presence blown up for spurious reasons, that's bad), but I do think that her ban... re-focused the surge in transmisogyny discourse that'd been going on for a while?

Like, in the days leading up to her ban you could watch, in real time, as people trying to talk about concrete issues got pushed aside in favor of increasingly contrived scenarios about whether X or Y combination of identity and lived experience counts as 'TMA', people were up in arms about that obviously fake 'Kelly' AITA, there was a renewed push to make TMA/TME standard bio labels (definitely not info that could ever be misused, right?).

And then Avery gets nuked and everything just shifts, all of a sudden there's an archetypical case for the discourse to focus on and all else falls away a bit; like I genuinely don't think I've seen a single person bring up that AITA since. And it's still online discourse, it's not like it's pleasant now, but at least there's now a sort of shared understanding about What Transmisogyny, The Dynamic At Hand, Looks Like, at least there's a specific case that can then be used as a bridge to other specific issues (callout posts, selective application of already-bad anti-kink norms) - issues that are important to talk about.

And the thing is that I'm barely seeing anyone acknowledge this! People just kinda segued into discussing the avery ban when before they were discussing 'transfem afabs' and act like this is The Same Sort of Thing because the same word describes both!

#the whole 'why are transfems and transmascs fighting when they could be having sex' thing that kinda kicked off this discourse surge was bad #and people being upset about that were unambiguously in the right #but it cannot be denied that actual valid concrete issues got outcrowded very quickly #by Posts such as 'so an intersex afab woman on hrt walks into a bar...'#or ambiguous calls to action that seemed very unclear about what actions to actually take #metadiscourse #transphobia #transgender

trying to not be on the co of host right now because a lot of the current discourse has turned from "we should support trans fems, trans women, and black bloggers that have been affected by bigoted moderating practices" to "THIS LITERALLY HAPPENS TO NO ONE ELSE. it's summer and that means summers in Night Vale must be unbearable so there must be a public pool at least!

Sad but not surprised my submission for Cobb Avery didn't get in. An obscure character from a semi-obscure band's lore probably didn't get any votes besides mine lol. Gonna give him some propaganda anyway because he's literally a perfect desolation avatar.

His story starts off with the murder of him and his family in a house fire. He crawls out of his grave (literally) and swears revenge on those behind it. He then goes on a violent arson-murder spree that include such highlights of: trapping a man in a gas station and lighting it on fire, blowing up a building with himself inside, derailing a train and then lighting that on fire, etc. His rampage is so violent and destructive that he ends up earning the title of "The World Ender" and turns him into something of an urban legend. He's immortal, literally unable to bleed, age or die.

Avery ends up founding a gang that acts as more or less a desolation cult, whose entire foundation is to destroy and cause chaos for the sake of it. One of the mottos of the gang is to "Surrender to No One, not even Death", and a few of their members are known to defy death itself.

Even after he gets his revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his family, he continues to cause chaos for the sake of chaos. He turned his own grief and pain for everything that he had lost – the house he built from the ground up, his wife, his child, his own life – into rage and hatred towards what he sees as the world that took it all from him. Avery is both a victim and perpetuator of the Desolation, both in the sense that he lost everything he's ever loved and the fact he refers to his immortality as a curse. He's permanently stuck in the way he is now – in this state of rage and grief, and constantly taking it out on the world. His drive for revenge brought him back from the dead and has avenged his family, but has equally trapped him in a life he does not want and cannot change. He's turned into a monster of fire and death by forces beyond his control, and what else is he do but embrace what he has become?

This is all to say that Cobb Avery is a perfect desolation avatar and has bee avatar-coded before TMA was even released, Lord Huron lore is absolutely insane, and you should all stream World Ender its a banger song.

Okay. So I think I've established I'm mentally ill. And I'm thinking about a character, so I'm forcing the people who follow me to hear about them. Cool? Cool.

I've got this little OC named The Groundskeeper. They started as a joke. They are no longer a joke. I love them. Here we go.

Avery "Aster" Hatchaway, probably like, mid 20s. He/They pronouns, he will take your gender and you can DEAL WITH IT. He worked at a flower shop right out of college and really liked it, made some good friends, got a little apartment, life is good. The flower shop ends up closing and he's like "Shit, I need a new job."

So he looks for jobs, finds out he can get a job as a groundskeeper at a local cemetery. Sure. Why not. He can still do all his planting that he likes while listening to music, the pay is shockingly good, and he needs a new job anyway. He goes, gets the interview, and gets the job. Before he does though, the interviewer (who's the old groundskeeper) is like "Hey, so you're going to have to work nights sometimes and it might get weird" and Avery is like "Sure, whatever, I can do that."

So they go and start working. Job is good, they're good at it. One thing they don't realize: Because they aren't talking to anybody, they don't realize they've begun to refer to themselves as "The Groundskeeper" while in the graveyard. They forget about their name while on the clock. But they don't exactly realize it, and they spend like, a week with the job.

Then, their first nightshift comes. And it's fine for like, an hour or two. They're mostly just confused on why they've been stuck there at night, but fine, why not fuck up their sleep schedule for the day. Then, they hear things. Long story short, paranormal shit happens, the Groundskeeper, reasonably, tries to leave, only to find the gate locked and a note there (Hello Jon, apologies for the deception-💥) basically explaining they can't leave yet, cause yada yada keep the supernatural stuff in check.

So, The Groundskeeper survives. Clearly. And after their shift they immediately go to the old groundskeeper and is like "Why the FUCK wouldn't you tell me??" "I did warn you." "You didn't warn me of SHIT-"

They're mad. They're terrified of the ghosts. But they also need money, so they keep the job, and eventually fall into the rhythm of keeping the supernatural entities who live in the graveyard in check while also maintaining the place. It's fun. They're basically Jon from TMA on a smaller scale. (In the sense that they signed themselves up to deal with paranormal bullshit, I haven't actually finished the podcast so don't come at me-)

Okay. Backstory rant over. Here's some facts about them:

-They have a little toolbelt that holds: A supernatural book they found, a flashlight, extra batteries, scissors, a screwdriver, their phone, and their earbuds.

-They got lost in a liminal space beneath a crypt once because of a ghost trying to fuck with them.

-They got thrown down the stairs of an underground crypt once and needed stitches after.

-They really fucking hate crypts (I wonder why.)

-They dislike coffee and rely on sugar to stay awake.

-The book they keep on them can light things on fire. No, they don't know how it does that.

-They're a cat person, but they think dogs are cute.

-They had to perform an exorcism on a kid who snuck in one night, played with an ouija board, and got possessed.

-They like to draw but aren't good at it.

-They'd have a tumblr account.

-They aren't afraid of the dark, but if they're alone and they think too much about it, they'll get paranoid.

-They definitely saw the FNAF movie.

-They're a gamer.

-They're traumatized but certainly not as bad as they could be.

-They have not told any of their friends about what this job actually entails.

-They're on good terms with a few supernatural entities, including some ghosts and the Näcken that lives in the pond. It's a big cemetery. There's a pond.

Look. It's them. They're probably half awake.

Alright buckle up fuckers, this one's gonna be Long.

🤫 Do others know the secrets they're hiding, and to what degree?

For both of them- It high key depends on who you're talking about. Both of them keep a lot regarding their pasts and such under wraps from most people, only giving it away among closer groups of friends or family. If I had to pick between them, I would say Magician is more intentionally secretive and closed-off.

🖤 How cold-hearted are they? Do they have a secret or soft side? Why or who with?

Magician can be very very cold and calculated, and tends to come off that way to most people (unless you're a friend or in the process of being manipulated. More often it's the latter). He's a villainous demon who does things for his own benefit/amusement, and that's what most people see. His gentler, softer side is reserved exclusively for the few he genuinely trusts and is close to (fun fact: he's actually a rather awkward introvert when he's not in his Dramatic Villain element. It's very funny).

Josef is the opposite. He does not want to come off as immediately threatening unless he has to. He prefers being more open and social (as much as his limited social battery will let him ofc), and is generally pretty friendly to people who aren't suspected threats. That said, he can definitely be cold and calculated as well. And it's,,,scary how fast he can switch.

🎶 Do they have a theme song/song you associate most with them? Why did you pick this song?

I have 2 in my head for each. For Magician: God Syndrome by Madame Macabre (his singing voice reference) and Aha! by Pentatonix. The latter is for two reasons: the Vibes™, and because there was an animatic done to it on yt (unfortunately I think it was privated/deleted) that served to be my main initial inspo for him.

For Josef, I would say Anoana by Heilung or Constellations by The Oh Hellos. Both for mostly Vibes™. And Constellations has a very fitting name for him too (Josef is a demigod, the son of my moon/night deity Cereluna, and he has markings on his upper body that can look like constellations).

💋 Do they have a lover? If so, who are they and what are the dynamics? If not, are they a flirty type of person or see it as pointless?

Yes! In fact, Magician has 2!! He's married to Cyber and Wylmas. He met and fell for Cyber first, and then met Wylmas later on through, uh,,,a series of intense events that would take me way too long to explain in an already long ask answer. Anyway, he'd never considered being with multiple people before but Wyl made him fall SO fast , it was very funny. He loves them both very very much.

Josef has his boyfriend (soon-to-be husband ;)) Lyniaas (fun fact: he's one of Cyber's siblings). The best way I can describe their dynamic is TMA S5 Jon and Martin + WTNV Cecil and Carlos. They're both kind of the partner the other one needs, in a sense, and they're incredibly affectionate with each other. It's very sweet.

🤗 Do they have a best friend? Are they still friends and does the friend know who they truly are?

They both have childhood besties. Magician has Deranzel, a succubus he met when he was fairly young and still struggling with his own less-than-good upbringing in high-class demon society. They are INCREDIBLY close, to the point they can look at each other and know almost exactly what the other is thinking. Deranzel probably knows the most about Magician out of anyone.

Josef has Sidney, his gremlin childhood friend who he lost contact with briefly after his father passed away (the event caused. a very intense downward spiral for him it was a lot). They've since reconnected and are still fairly close, though Josef has refrained from telling him everything about what happened in those years in-between. He also has other people he considers to be close friends: Willow and Avery, Cupcake, and funnily enough, Magician himself. Prior to them getting together, he considered Lyniaas a close friend as well.

💥 Are they much of a fighter or do they rely more on strategy? How so?

Both are fighters when things escalate in that direction, both base their choices on strategy first. Granted, Magician has a bad temper, so sometimes strategy goes out the window in favour of "burn everything in this vicinity to the fucking ground". Josef doesn't have as bad a temper, but,,,,he can smite people. If you get him angry enough to smite you, you have Fucked Up.

💅🏻 Do they tend to pamper themselves? Do they care about their appearance?

Magician cares about his looks more-so than Josef does. Can't be a dramatic villain if he doesn't look like one, y'know? I don't know if either of them really do a ton of self-pampering, I feel like Wylmas and Cyber spoil Magician enough as is, same with Lyniaas and Josef. They do take some time to themselves, though.

🍼 Do they have any children, do they like children? Why or why not?

Magician has always had kind of mixed feelings about kids. He doesn't mind them, but the idea of taking care of one of his own (especially when you didn't really get a chance to receive anything close to a normal childhood and have bad anger issues) REALLY stressed him out. It took a lot of convincing for him to finally say yes to having one. He has a daughter named Miriylia, and he Will kill for her, he loves her so much. Parenting still stresses him out, but both his husbands are helping him figure it out.

Josef really really wants kids of his own, like really badly. He loves being around kids and taking care of them, he's known he's wanted to be a father for YEARS. The only issue is that he's an incredibly powerful demigod archivist who is well-known enough to have the eyes of some Not So Great people on him. He's worried that, at the current time especially, he would just put whatever kid he has in danger by virtue of them being related to him.

😆 What kind of laugh do they have? Is it deceiving or fitting?

Magician has a very classic Bastard Chuckle, which you would likely hear the most from him. He has a maniacal villain laugh, of course, and his genuine laugh, while softer for sure, still kind of has a bit of that mischievous-sounding edge to it.

Josef's laugh is similar, funny enough. Best way I can describe it is actually to just point to his voice claim, Night Mind. That's how he laughs. Deep, warm, and sometimes with a touch of bastard energy. For flavour. :)

👣 What do they do when they're thinking? Do they pace, write things down, make thought boards?

Magician tends to pace. He thinks better when he's standing or moving. Talking to others helps as well, like Dera or Cyber or Wyl, depending on what's on his mind.

Josef writes. He writes a Lot. It's like, 80% of what he does anyway as an archivist, but it genuinely helps him get his thoughts out. Otherwise, he'll also sometimes talk, usually with Lyniaas.

🥣 Do they have any domestic skills? what are they? If not, how come?

Magician used to be pretty bad at cooking but he is married to 2 people who would not let that stand, so he's gotten much better at it now! Domestic skills are things he's getting the hang of over time, mostly because even though he Knows Wyl and Cyber are perfectly happy handling things, he doesn't like feeling like they have to do all the work.

Josef is like the complete opposite, he loves cooking (and is good at it too), gardening, and doesn't mind cleaning much either. And he loves doing things for Lyniaas and spoiling him, especially as a surprise.

💕 Do they do good with intimacy or is it something they're afraid of? Explain.

Intimacy can make Magician very awkward sometimes since it's not something he was used to getting on a regular basis for many, many years. That said, he's not actually that bad at it. Unsure of himself, sure, but very good in most aspects. He struggles a lot with being vulnerable and has a habit of bottling things up until they explode (usually in some kind of rage). But Wylmas, I feel, is getting him to slowly be more open, and much like Cyber, Miriylia is a great motivator for him to actively improve. It's a process, but he'll get there.

Josef is fantastic at intimacy in pretty much all aspects. He does struggle with vulnerability, but in his case it's more "I don't want you to worry" or "I don't want you to be scared of me". He's got. A lot of anxiety around pushing people away without meaning to if he says too much.

🌫 How chaotic are they? How destructive can this be?

Magician is a villainous high-class fire demon which means if he wants to make shit explode HE CAN. VIOLENTLY. Alternatively, he can also be a cunning little shit and sow the seeds of chaos slowly through manipulation tactics and such. :)

Josef keeps the chaos under several layers of Composed Introverted Archivist Man exterior, but it's there. Lyniaas brings it out the fastest.

🔥 How hotheaded are they? How come?

Magician is VERY hot-headed. Part of it is his nature (fire class demons are just Like That), part of it is his upbringing, where he was basically taught that Anger Is Your Best Option. Josef, as said earlier, is not. You have to push his buttons a Lot for him to really hate you.

🥀 Do they feel broken? Why?

Magician never considered himself broken. Damaged, sure. Hurt, definitely. Betrayed, more than he wants to think about. But not broken. Not completely. And definitely not now. He feels more together now than he has...ever.

Josef...isn't sure. He used to feel broken. In some ways, he still does. But more so in the way a puzzle feels when it has pieces missing. He pulled himself back up and is definitely better, but he still has a ways to go.

🥪 What meal do they eat when they don't have much time?

Both of them would probably go for some kind of sandwich. Josef travels enough he probably keeps some food for emergencies or something somewhere.
