Hoo boy. This is by far the most depraved thing I’ve written. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
If you did enjoy it, please let me know! Your comments and questions inspire me to keep writing!
To the lovely anon who requested this: I hope it lives up to your expectations. I had so much fun writing it.
Anonymous asked: 'In some ways, he’d love to see his name across her back, but not at a game.' Ohhh, I'd love to see something about this in the future. Later on in their relationship, he's on a roadie and not seen Sarah for 4 weeks due to it and some study trip prior. He has just played either Brady or his brothers who noticed he's really down and missing her, they call Sarah and organise to fly her to his next destination to suprise him after the game. She's waiting in his hotel room, wearing nothing but his jersey to cheer him up after a loss 😉 Or a more wholesome storyline of her first WAG jacket or something aha Absolutely love all your pieces and can't wait to continue reading of their universe xx
I can't believe you're here.
A Quinn & Sarah Snapshot
Fatigue and failure were deep in his bones as he walked into the hotel.
Logically, Quinn knew winning streaks always come to an end. It was impossible to have a perfect 82 game season. No one had ever come close to that.
It didn't matter how much he tried to reason, it still felt like shit to be on the receiving end of a shut out after two straight losses.
The fact that they were still on the road didn’t help. The fourteen day trek away from home was always terrible, no matter when it fell in the season, but having it come right after Sarah had to be at a conference was torture. It meant he hadn’t seen her in over 12 days.
It was terrible timing. The day after he got back from the six day Midwest road trip, she left for a seven day ocean conservation conference in Costa Rica. She got back two days after he had to leave again.
It had been nineteen long days since he'd seen her for more than twenty four hours.
They talked and sent messages and photos, but it wasn’t the same as talking face to face and kissing her and feeling her skin and smelling her perfume.
He’d learned from the past and brought her pillowcase with him, but even that was beginning to smell less and less like her.
He only had to get through three more games and five and a half more days before he'd be back home and in her arms.
One of the team assistants ran up to him in the lobby, “Hughes,” he said, a little breathless, “they changed your room.”
“What?” he asked, trying to pull himself from his misery and back to the present.
“They had to change your room. Something about the heater being broken,” Sean said.
“Okay. Petey still with me?”
“No, they had to separate you,” Sean forced the key into his hand as they stepped on the elevator, “I already moved your bags.”
He’d slept four quick hours in a room that felt perfectly fine before heading to the pre-game meeting and meal. He couldn’t remember if he’d left his stuff all over the bathroom counter. Hopefully, Sean didn’t have to go through too much trouble. Quinn definitely owed him dinner.
The room was dark when he walked in. And it smelled like… it smelled like Sarah’s smoky vanilla perfume.
Fuck. He missed her so much, his mind was playing tricks on him.
At least he would have a room to himself, and could call her in peace without the threat of Petey listening in. They could probably even get some phone sex in, which hadn’t happened for far too long.
Then, he would get a full night's sleep before their flight to Chicago. That, in itself, was a rare luxury he was outrageously thankful for.
When he flipped on the light, the first thing he noticed was the king size bed. The bedspread was mussed, as if someone had been lying on it. Strange for any hotel, but especially one this nice. Rooms he came into often looked so pristine, it was as if no one had ever stepped foot in them before.
He pushed the worry out of his mind and started toward the bathroom.
“Hey.”
Great, now he was hallucinating. It sounded like Sarah was right behind him. He must be more tired than he thought.
“Quinn?”
He stopped dead in his tracks, backpack nearly slipping to the floor. If he turned and she wasn’t here, he didn’t know what he’d do.
A touch grazed his shoulder, and a strong whiff of her perfume made his knees shake. “Sarah?” he asked, hoping against hope. Why would she be here?
“Yeah,” she said.
He turned and felt a strange, strangled sort of gasp escape his throat.
Sarah was in his hotel room. She was here. She was in Boston. How was she here?
When his brain finally reconciled the fact that she was actually in front of him, he noticed she was wearing his flying skate jersey.
“I - how?”
She smiled softly, set his backpack aside and wrapped her arms around him.
His body caught on before his brain did, hugging her against him fiercely.
Coming home from her conference in Costa Rica, which had been lovely but incredibly socially exhausting, all Sarah had wanted was to fall into bed with Quinn. When she came home to a dark and empty house, it had been a rude reminder he was on the longest road trip of the year. The apartment felt too big without him in it, especially for so long.
“I missed you so much,” she said into his neck.
“How did you do this?” he finally asked.
He’d known other players' wives and girlfriends occasionally showed up on road trips, but generally, their partners always knew, and it was usually because they were close by one of their hometowns.
“Brady called me. He said you were so sad and not yourself on Wednesday, he wanted to do something. So he bought me a ticket and called Brock to get the schedule.”
He sniffed and she pulled back.
“Oh, Quinn,” she said upon seeing the tears pooled in his eyes.
“I’m just…” The shock of seeing her brought all his emotion up to the surface.
“I know,” she said, pulling him into her again, feeling a few tears slip down her own cheeks. It felt so good to hold him.
His mouth landed on her neck. It was a comforting thing to taste her skin as they embraced. He mumbled something against her.
“Sorry?” she asked, trying to pull away so she could see his face.
He didn’t want to let her go, not even for a second. Instead, he lifted his lips just enough so he could repeat, “I missed you so much.”
“I know Quinny,” she said, running her fingers into his hair. “I missed you, too, but I’m here now, and we have all night.”
His mouth was still on her neck, though he’d started moving with more intent, licking and kissing. The shock to his system was giving way to relief and desire.
Finally fed up with his teasing, Sarah took his jaw in her hands and forced his head up so she could kiss him.
He sighed into it, and found some way to pull her tighter against him.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew she was wearing his jersey, but the shock of her in his hotel room, seeing her face and her blue eyes and her lips - god her lips, he couldn't get enough of them - stole all of his brain power. Now, as his hands splayed across her back, feeling the numbers patched and stitched there, the reality of it hit him.
Forcing himself to break away so he could look at her, his knees threatened to buckle when he noticed she wasn’t wearing anything else - not that he could see anyway. The fabric hit her upper thigh, leaving much of her legs bare.
“I -” he tried to say something, but lost the words.
The idea of wearing his jersey came from Emma. Sarah thought it was cheesy, but Emma assured her he’d love it. She’d surprised Brady at the end of a roadtrip like that, and “I swear his brain, like, short-circuited or something. He just stood there, staring at me for like 30 seconds before he went wild.”
It didn’t surprise her Quinn didn’t have the same immediate reaction. He was so much quieter than Brady, and from what she could tell, they had a much more subdued relationship than the Tkachuks.
The way he was looking at her now, though - like she was the thing he'd been anxiously waiting for on Christmas morning - made it all worthwhile.
“I borrowed it, I hope that’s okay.”
“Yeah,” he breathed.
When they were apart, the mechanics of an orgasm could be there, but it just wasn't as good. It could never be. She missed feeling him: his skin, his breath, the rigid length of him inside her.
It wasn’t that she’d been hoping he’d ravish her right away (okay, maybe she had been, but she knew Quinn, and knew he would never react that way), but all this looking without any touching was getting out of hand. Impatience was pulling tight through her stomach. The prospect of finally feeling fulfilled was driving her crazy.
She needed to give him a little nudge.
Leaning in, she let her lips graze his ear, down to his jaw and then back. He made a soft, breathy noise, and she knew she almost had him.
Just one more push.
“How do you want me?” she asked, following it up with a slow, open mouthed kiss to the soft spot under his ear.
Blood rushed from his head so fast he felt dizzy.
“I want you to ride me in this,” he managed to say, fingering the stripes on the sleeve.
It was a fantasy he'd harbored since middle school, but had yet to experience. He'd asked his college girlfriend once, and she had scoffed, telling him it would get too hot, which he thought was a strange argument considering a jersey was designed to do the exact opposite.
Sarah didn’t acknowledge his request other than popping open the buttons of his shirt, one after the other. That set him into motion, tugging at his clothing. He couldn’t get it off fast enough.
Through a jumble of arms and hands, tangling in their effort to get him naked, they found themselves on the bed. Quinn flat on his back, breath heavy with anticipation, and Sarah astride him, trying to game plan her next move. She had on lingerie he’d never seen before and didn’t want it to go to waste, but he wanted her in the jersey, and she couldn’t take anything off without spoiling the surprise.
He grew impatient as she debated, shifting his hips up, trying to entice her onto him already. “Sarah,” he whined.
Finally, she decided to just move it to the side, and sink onto him. The stretch after so long was a pleasant burn.
His eyes rolled back, and his hips jumped, wanting to fill her more.
“How are you so wet?” he asked. They hadn’t kissed for that long. Usually, it took a little more to get her this soaked.
A wicked smile spread over her face, “I may have gotten myself off while I was waiting, thinking about finally seeing you again.”
“Fuck.”
She was a vision. Riding him after so long? Wearing his jersey? Confessing to touching herself in this bed thinking of and waiting for him? He was the luckiest man on the planet.
She pitched forward to get the right angle, and moaned, loud and earnest. Good thing they moved him two floors up from the team.
He tried to brace himself, but the fantasy of it, of her being here and wearing his jersey - the golden C winking at him, reminding him of all the work he'd done to get here - knowing his name was on her back made him groan out loud. His restraint stretched until it was paper thin.
His hands explored under the jersey only to feel something smooth tied at her hip and lace at her ribcage.
He coughed, “are you wearing lingerie?”
“Just for you,” she said, meeting his heated gaze with a coy smile.
He didn’t think this could get any better. Now, his mind was wild with possibilities.
“Come for me and I'll show you.”
Holy shit.
The little control he had snapped and he flooded her with a loud groan of her name.
Sarah's hands traced his arms, entwining their fingers before guiding them to rest on either side of his head as she leaned forward to kiss him.
His chest pressed into hers, catching the scratchy logo on his jersey as he tried to catch his breath. “You’re incredible, you know that?”
Shaking her head, she pushed herself off of him to go to the bathroom. She needed to clean up and readjust before the next part of her plan could move forward.
He lay there and tried to wrap his mind around what had just happened. It was almost too fast for him to remember the way he wanted. The bathroom door opened, and he looked over.
“Alright, captain,” she said, leaning on the door frame. She felt incredibly silly, but relished the way his eyes widened at the nickname, “are you ready to see what I have for you?”
Oh God.
He nodded, though he wasn’t sure how he could possibly be prepared for what was coming.
“Do you want to, or should I?” she asked, fiddling with the hem of his jersey, exposing the little heart tattooed on her thigh.
“You can.” His voice squeaked a little as he said it, and he blushed.
Being sexy wasn’t really in her forte, but Sarah tried her best. Lifting the jersey over her head, she thought briefly about tossing it in his face. Deciding that was a step too far, she let it fall to the floor.
Quinn gaped.
Most of the time, Sarah wore cotton briefs - occasionally she switched them for lace or a thong, but this was something totally different than what he was used to seeing her in.
For one, the matching set was so sheer, he could see her nipples through the swirling pattern of the black lace. Then, there was the fact that it was obviously made to be removed. The bra tied in front and her underwear tied at the hips, each with a silky black ribbon, like she was a gift for him to unwrap.
His mind ran away with the thought of tugging the bow on her bra undone with his teeth.
When she did a little twirl so he could see the back, the breath knocked out of his lungs. She looked so damn good, she might just kill him. His heart might just explode.
“What do you think?” she asked, walking closer. She could already see how much he liked it in his wide eyes and panting mouth, but she wanted to hear him say it.
“I -” He didn't know it was possible to get hard so soon after coming.
“Do you like it, Captain?”
His breathing hitched. He never thought he'd have a captain kink, but hearing the title come out of her mouth while she was wearing that? He might just develop one.
Adjusting the bows at her hips so they sat more naturally, Sarah looked at him and repeated, “do you like it, Quinn?”
“Fuck,” he breathed. “Yes. I love it.”
She smiled and climbed onto the bed then straddled him. His hands went to her waist of their own volition.
Her hips ground down.
“You can’t do that,” he said, teeth gritted as he forced the words over a moan. The soft texture of the lace against his cock was incredible.
“What?”
“You can’t ride me again. I won’t last and you haven’t come yet.”
She leaned down so her mouth was inches from his, her breath making him hyper aware of his own mouth and how much he wanted it on her.
“And what are you going to do about that, Captain Hughes?”
He topped her so fast that Sarah grunted and let out a little giggle when her back slammed into the mattress.
“Sorry,” he breathed, only half meaning it as he planted a wet kiss at the base of her throat. He moved down her chest, following the outline of her bra with his mouth. He almost made good on his fantasy of biting it open, but held off. He wanted to watch her fall apart with it on.
“What were you thinking about when you were getting yourself off?” he asked, kissing over her tattoo.
“You,” she panted.
“And what were you imagining me doing?”
She whined.
“What was I doing, Sarah?” he asked, lifting his mouth from where he’d just kissed down to the band of her panties.
“You were eating me out,” she confessed, a blush rising high on her cheeks.
Sometimes, he wished she would have told him how much she fantasized about and enjoyed oral sex before the first time he’d done it. There were four solid months he could have been pleasing her he would never get back.
He smirked a little, “is that what you want now?”
“Yes.”
“Yes what?” he asked, tracing his fingers up and down her thighs.
“Yes, Quinn.”
He tutted, “Yes, what?” he asked as his lips went to her inner thigh.
The bolt of electricity that fractured up her spine tipped her voice into a high, breathy whimper.
When she didn’t answer, he repeated the question again, ghosting his fingers against the lace of her panties.
Her hips jumped. “Yes, Captain.”
Oh, it was definitely a kink now. He couldn’t get over the sound of it coming out of her mouth.
He made a satisfied noise and hooked two fingers under the lace gusset, pulling it away from her experimentally. The ties pulled taught, but didn't seem to want to slide over her hips. He tugged again, a little harder.
Flinging a hand down, Sarah grasped the band, “you're going to rip them.”
“I'll buy you more,” he said, almost off handedly, still pulling.
“Quinn, that's not the point. Please don't.”
The pulling stopped, and he pulled back to look into her face. “Okay. I'm sorry.”
Her face melted into a smile, “thank you.” She reached down to ease the ties over her hips.
“No,” he breathed.
Her eyes snapped to his, questioning.
Before she could ask what he wanted instead, he was knocking her hand away and licking one of the ribbons at her left hip into his mouth.
He pulled it away from her with his teeth, eyes growing darker when the bow unraveled and the pieces fell apart.
Taking his time to kiss and lick his way to the other tie, he repeated the action, and groaned when it also untied so easily.
He pulled on the whole thing and flung the garment away. It sailed somewhere across the room, ties flailing.
Sarah bought this set because it was cute and sort of reminiscent of her black bikini he liked so much. She didn't realize what a fetish he would have for the bows.
Settling back between her legs, she whined as he parted her lips and blew on her hot core. Shivers ran up her spine and down to all her fingers and toes.
“What were you thinking about?”
“What do you mean?”
“When you were touching yourself, what were you thinking about me doing?”
“You were eating me out,” she repeated, confused.
His laugh chuffed a burst of hot air against her that had her squirming.
“I mean how. What exactly was I doing?
“You want me to describe it to you?”
“I want to do it for you,” he confessed, voice gravelly.
She made a little squeaking noise that told him how much that idea excited her.
“Tell me how you want me to touch you,” he said before he leaned in to press his tongue against her, just to feel her twitch.
Something inside her broke. Even though she felt depraved at the very thought of telling him this, it was too late to go back. The possibility of feeling it had taken over her body and wouldn’t let it go.
“You had your fingers on my g-spot,” she breathed.
“How many?”
She squirmed again.
“How many, Sarah?” he repeated, circling her entrance, enthralled at the way she flexed.
“Two.” Her mind made her continue and she squeaked, “then three.”
His eyes widened and shot to hers. “Will they fit?”
She nodded. “If you get me off first, they should.”
His eyes were blown dark and full of mischief when he glanced down then back up to meet hers again. “And how was I using my mouth?”
She moaned out loud just thinking about it. “You were doing that suck and flick thing with your tongue.”
He had no idea what she meant.
He'd done it before: the night they'd been eliminated from the finals last season, but she couldn't very well bring that up. I want you to eat me out the way you did when you'd had one of the worst nights of your career? There was no way. Maybe if she demonstrated...
“I can show you,” she said, grasping one of his shoulders, “I need a part of you.”
He toyed for a moment with the idea of presenting her his dick, but if he did that, he wouldn’t want to stop feeling her mouth, which defeated the whole purpose of this. Instead, he crawled over her and tipped his head to expose the column of his throat.
His eyes rolled back as her open mouth connected with his hypersensitive skin. She ran her tongue over his pulse, following it with her bottom lip, before ending with suction, and a flick with the tip of her tongue.
Moaning, he ground against her hot center when she did it again and again.
He wrenched himself away before he could follow through with his desires to sheath himself and take her any way she would let him.
Settling back onto his stomach, he shook his head to get back into the right frame of mind before leveling his gaze with her perfect, pretty pearl again.
He tried to follow the movement of her mouth, and her hips jumped at the feeling.
“Quinn,” she whined as he eased two fingers into her, curling them against that sensitive spot. “Oh my god.”
He continued on. She could feel the movement of his chin, up and down and in and out with each pass of his tongue.
“Harder,” she begged.
He dug his fingers into her soft spot even more.
Throwing her head back, she moaned loudly. “Oh my god, Quinn. Just like that. Don't stop. Please don't stop.”
Like he would ever stop when she was at his mercy like this. Grinding into the mattress, he continued on, moaning at the way her body undulated as she moved with him.
She let out a gasping noise as if someone had forced all the air out of her in one swift hit. Her core began to pulse around his fingers, trying to suck them deeper inside her.
Tipping her chin back, Sarah sighed as wave after soft wave of pleasure crashed over her.
When she stopped contracting so tightly, he waited until one of her aftershocks passed to work another finger into her.
Her voice echoed around the hotel room as she cried out.
He said a silent prayer of thanks to whoever had the wherewithal to separate them from the team. There was no way he wanted anyone, let alone someone who knew them, to overhear this.
“So good, Quinn,” she croaked out. “Feels so full.”
He continued kissing her bundle of nerves the way she wanted, pausing every few passes to suck a little more intensely.
A surge of pleasure coiled low in her belly, winding tighter and tighter until every breath ended in a moan. She felt so full and stretched open. So… Alive. All other thoughts fell out of her brain except Quinn and his silver tongue and wicked fingers.
Feeling as if she might just shatter to pieces if she didn't get some relief, Sarah moaned and panted and begged, “please, Quinn. Please.”
She had no idea what she was asking for, but the waves of pleasure kept coming and coming until it was winding up her spine and pulling so tight, she thought it might just wrench every vertebrae apart and fill each gap with the soft promise of her impending release.
He could feel her high building and kept urging her up the slope. Anxious for her summit, he sealed his mouth to her, milking her clit like her orgasm might just satiate his hunger.
“Quinn,” she gasped, spine arching as her hands abandoned her nipples and rummaged for some way to ground herself. One ended up in his hair, and the other fisted into the bedspread. “Oh my god. I think I'm gonna…”
Her voice dissolved into a noise he'd never heard her make as her muscles locked around his fingers. He forced them to continue, working through her orgasm.
Quite suddenly, as pleasure whirled through her veins, a feeling, intense and ferocious, swelled within her.
As a tsunami of white-hot ecstasy crashed over her, he unlocked a space deep within her she didn't even know existed.
“Oh, fuck! Quinn!”
Something molten erupted in her belly like a long dormant volcano.
Vaguely, she heard him groan as if every fantasy he'd ever had was being fulfilled.
Though he knew women could, he’d never seen it in person, never even imagined what feeling her release gush over his hand would be like.
Sometime last season, Beauvillier had gone on and on about making his girl squirt, and Quinn remembered wishing he would keep it to himself. He didn't want to think about that every time he saw them together.
Now, having experienced it first hand, he understood why Tito wanted to tell everyone he knew.
Pleasure continued to ripple through her. No high had ever gone on this long. It eased away the tension that had knotted up in her body, until all at once, sensitivity and overstimulation set in.
“Too much, too much,” she croaked, trying to squirm away from his touch.
He’d been so mesmerized watching her face, he hadn't realized his fingers were still moving. They uncoiled and stilled, and she melted into the mattress as a sigh melted from her lips.
Her chest rose and fell steeply, the tie of her bra pulling taught with every heavy inhale, making the cups ride up the swell of her breasts. God, she was so beautiful.
It took quite a while for her to come down. He gently eased his fingers out only after she stopped pulsing.
A whine escaped her throat at the sudden emptiness.
Slowly coming back to herself, Sarah registered something wet underneath her.
“Oh my god,” she breathed. “Did I -” her eyes darted to his as her face flushed with the reality of what had just happened, “did you make me squirt?”
“Yeah," he said, crawling over her again, "and it was the hottest fucking thing I've ever seen in my life.”
The embarrassment she felt at making such a mess ebbed away with his confession.
“No one's ever done that to me before. I haven't even been able to.”
A look of immense pride took over his face. “Did you like it? I mean, it seemed like you liked it.”
She nodded, “I've never felt anything like it.”
He brought his lips to hers, and the taste of herself on his tongue made her passion throb to life again.
“Well, Captain,” she said a little while later, smiling at the way his jaw slackened and eyelids grew heavy at the title. “I think I've got one more round in me. What do you want?”
He twitched against her.
“I just want you,” he brought his mouth to her neck. “Want to feel you come on my cock,” he murmured into her skin.
“I think we can arrange for that,” she said, fingers winding into his hair.
Bracing up on his elbows, his gaze fell to her bra.
Instead of using his mouth, he twirled one of the ribbons around his finger and pulled gently to ease the bow undone. It fell apart, revealing a knot in the middle.
“It kept coming undone,” Sarah confessed, hands coming up to help him with the knot, which had pulled incredibly tight amidst her heavy breathing and writhing around.
“I think it's stuck. I can't get it out while it's on me, anyway,” she said, raising her arms above her head. “Here.”
At least he'd been able to remove her bottoms the way he wanted. He eased the lace over the swell of her breasts and helped her lift it off.
He made love to her the way he did whenever he got home from a long time away - earnestly and full of wonder, compliments falling from his lips like raindrops, as if they didn’t cost a thing.
“Fuck, Sarah, you feel so good.”
“I can't believe you're mine.”
“You're so pretty. I can't stop looking at you.”
“God, I'm so lucky.”
They didn’t cost him anything, but they made Sarah feel like she was worth a million dollars.
“I love that sound,” he murmured when she gasped in pleasure and followed it with a low moan.
As he drove into her again and again, he shuttered and moaned, feeling like she was going to shatter him into a million little pieces
He'd been hot all night. A sheen of sweat had spread over his skin as soon as she'd climbed on top of him in his jersey. The prospect of a fantasy being fulfilled sending his body into a frenzy. Working her up to that intense high hadn't been a walk in the park either. He'd been on edge and so focused. Now, he felt like his body was on fire.
She felt and sounded and looked so good. He couldn't think of anything but her.
When she tipped her face to the side with a loud moan, he attacked her jaw and neck with his lips, desperate to taste her again.
She was here. She was in Boston. She was here, in his hotel, in Boston. He just made her squirt, and he didn't have to be down to the bus until 10 the next morning. He must have been doing something right.
When he felt her fall apart around his cock, he breathed through it and hung on for dear life, twitching with the bliss of it.
Coming down from her high, Sarah was mesmerized by him. The defined set of his jaw, the sweaty sheen to his skin, how his curls fell over his forehead.
“You're so handsome, Quinn.”
She knew he was holding on, hoping to urge another high from her, but she didn't have one to give him. It was time to send him over the edge.
Propping up on her elbows, she traced her mouth along his jaw up to his ear. He let out a panicked little whimper.
“Want to feel you,” she whispered. "Want you to fill me up."
His hips stuttered.
“Come for me, Captain.”
White spots blipped in his vision and he had no choice but to obey.
Her name fell from his mouth like a prayer as she pulled him over the edge.
When they walked back in the room after showering, Sarah realized just how much of a mess she'd made of the bed. There was no way they could sleep in it as it was.
“Oh no.”
“What?” Quinn asked, lowering the towel he was running over his hair.
“We need new sheets and housekeeping is going to know exactly what we've been doing.”
“No they won't.”
She pointed to the bed, “you want to tell me they're not going to know we weren't just having sex?”
He laughed, “fine. So they might know. What does it matter? It's not like we know any of them.”
“It's so embarrassing.”
“What is? That your boyfriend made you come so hard you squirted?”
“No,” she was blushing though, “I mean…no. That was amazing.”
“So what's the worry?”
“I just…I don't want anyone else to see.”
He laughed, “that's fair. I can just ask them to bring some extra bedding. No one has to come into the room.”
She nodded, “okay.”
He called the desk, and despite his insistence he would prefer to make the bed himself, the hotel sent someone up anyway.
Sarah folded the comforter before hiding in the bathroom.
Quinn noticed the housekeeper's eyes lingering in one corner of the room. When he glanced over, he saw Sarah’s panties from where he'd thrown them, ties scrawled over the carpet like calligraphy strokes. So much for being discreet.
After giving the woman a tip, he tucked them in Sarah's suitcase before letting her know the coast was clear.
As they settled into bed, Quinn relished holding her close.
Before sleep could overtake her completely, Sarah needed to set something straight.
“I hope you know that Captain thing is only for special occasions. There is no way I'm calling you Captain all the time.”
“That’s fine,” he said, laughing. “Makes it more special when you do.”
“To be fair, I didn’t expect you to like it so much,” she said.
She’d called him Captain as a kind of joke, and half expected him to tell her not to do it again. Quinn didn’t even like pet names. She vividly remembered the way he grimaced the first (and last) time she called him baby.
He ran his fingers through her soft hair. “I don’t know that I would have either. I’ve never had that happen before. You said it, and it went straight to my dick. I think your lingerie had something to do with that.”
She propped herself up on an elbow. “You liked the lingerie?” she teased, full well knowing the answer.
He scoffed, “I'm going to dream about it for the rest of this damn road trip.”
Giggling, she leaned down to kiss him. “Maybe I'll have it on when you get home,” she said against his mouth.
He groaned, “don't joke about that.”
“Why not? Wouldn't it give you something to look forward to?”
“I always look forward to coming home to you.”
She looked down at him for a long time, memorizing the love in his eyes. “I love you, Captain Hughes,” she said before lowering her mouth to his to tell him that way too.
“Tease,” he chided when she pulled away.
She smiled and settled back, laying her head on his chest.
“I love you, too,” he whispered into her hair before they fell asleep. “I can't believe you're here.”
The next morning, Sarah put his jersey back on and put his morning hard on to good use - slower this time so he could remember it properly.
After room service breakfast and a very steamy shower, he walked her down to the lobby to catch her car to the airport.
“I love you,” he said, kissing her forehead.
“I love you too.”
“Thank you for coming.”
“You're welcome. You should really be thanking Brady, though.”
He watched her pull away before heading back to his room to pack his bag.
On the elevator ride, Quinn did just as Sarah suggested.
Love you man. I owe you big time.

Mistletoe Confessions | Quinn Hughes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: when Quinn finally realises that he doesn't just want to see harper as jacks best friend.
request: my entry in the @wyattjohnston fic exchange for @tkwrites
warnings: swearing, mentions of sleeping with someone but nothing explicit.
word count: 3.87k
authors note: this took an embarrassingly long amount of time to write this one out but here is my first ever entry to a fic exchange and I seriously had so much fun writing this one!
Tumblr media
Christmas at the Hughes’ was by every definition the highlight of her Christmas.
Harper always adored the cold Michigan weather and the way that everyone seemed to come together for the reunion of the three Hughes boys. Jack was the one who got Harper into the group. Her family had the lake house just down the road and the moment Jack watched her punch a guy for taking his cap, they were destined to be best friends.
Time went on and Jack kept Harper by his side through it all, but even as he was in New Jersey and Harper was in Florida they still stayed as close as the day they were when Harper kissed him. It was a stupid thing were they were twelve and were scared they’d end up being bad at it so they practiced on each other one night -don’t worry, they didn’t try that with sex-. Yet it was much to the dismay of Quinn that the duo had to stay so close.
To him Harper was a pain in the ass who was always around when he didn’t want to have to see her. Their moms agreed that this hatred masked a crush that he had on Harper, but as he grew to the ripe age of twenty three she began to think that the margaritas had something in them to feed their delusions.
Quinn never seemed to have the time of day for Harper which Jack made sure to always call his brother out on but after fifteen years of the same drum being beat. It got old for everyone but Quinn, silently sealing her indefinite broken heart.
Yes because like every unfortunate yet classic story Harper had a reason for never getting into anything serious with any guys. For her relationships only ever lasting six months at most, the secret ate up at her but no matter how hard she tried to deny it Harper was in love with Quinn.
She knew it was stupid to think so fondly of a man who thought so poorly of her but as she would watch him each time with a new girl, the glimmers of hope would weaken yet it seemed that nothing could remove them fully. The one moment when Harper was ready to move on Quinn found a way to unintentionally bring her right back into the midst of the crush.
Beer pong against Trevor was never going to end well for Harper. But six games strong and her untimely demise came from playing with Cole as it ended up with her curled over the toilet as she emptied her guts in the porcelain bowl “oh.” The grumble made her freeze as she found a moment of silence where her mouth was able to remain shut “c’mon Quinny we can go somewhere else.” The preppy girl had this sultry tone in her voice as she wrapped her arms around his torso, Harper wished she wanted to throw up in that moment.
But Quinn sighed as he watched Harper’s small body cling to the toilet “you should go.” In that moment Harper swore he was talking to her “k-kinda busy!” She snapped coughing at the taste of bile in her throat “not you.” Quinn rolled his eyes as he made the mental note to chew her out for that later.
The sound of the girl he had scoffing were like music to Harper’s ears “let’s not have you throw up on your hair.” Quinn joked but when he was met with a glare that she clearly used all of her energy to send him he sighed “let it out harps.” The hockey player mumbled as he wrapped his hand into her hair using his free one to rub her back “I’m never drinking again.” Harper groaned as she finally found a moment of solace that let her sit across from the boy.
It made Quinn smile as he laughed “I’ll remind you of that tomorrow.” Somehow she had gotten herself invited to the boys drunk golf game, and as someone who never played golf, she was set to be hammered. Harper pressed her head against the wall as her lips formed a pout “you should go back down to that girl.” Harper didn’t want this to be held against her at a later date so she just offered to let him go “she wasn’t my type.” His confession made Harper’s eyes go wide as she laughed.
She truly didn’t mean to but as she was as drunk as a skunk she couldn’t help but sit there and keep her lips locked “the short dress and the hair twirls didn’t get to Quinn Hughes?” Harper gasped as she pretended to be shocked “you wound me Harps.” Quinn pressed his hand on his chest as he fanned a hurt expression.
It made her giggle as she shook her head “like that’s not the worse thing you’ve said to me.” Harper slurred as she placed her hand on his knee “woah.” Jack walked in on the sight of his best friend and his brother finally not fighting “you enjoying the company?” His eyes went wide as he stared at her.
Her cheeks went red as she looked up at him “not bad?” She shrugged not knowing truly what else to say instead “c’mon Z wants to show you something.” Quinn had to force a smile on his lips as he nodded his head off in his brothers direction. Out of Jack’s friends Trevor was by far the one that Quinn saw as competition.
It was beyond stupid but Harper clearly got on with Trevor and it wasn’t a relationship like Jacks with her. Quinn had walked into the living room on more than one occasion where they were jumping apart after being sat on the couch. He swore he’d never get the image of Harper leaving Trevor’s room in a pure walk of shame. Maybe it was the fact that Quinn couldn’t see her in that light but it was more than likely because he was never going to forget her white lace thong in her hand as she ran across the hall in Trevor’s t-shirt thinking nobody was awake.
The smell of eggnog brought Harper back to reality as she walked into the Hughes family home “honey I’m home!” She giggled as the door shut behind her “in the kitchen sweetie!” Ellen called back as the girl always made sure to get there early.
Harper squealed as she ran into the kitchen “momma Hughes!” Ellen was quick to drop her spoon into the gravy as she turned to the girl “oh how I’ve missed you!” The through Hughes brothers watched in amusement as Ellen wrapped her hands around the girls waist.
Luke scoffed as he squinted his eyes “it’s like she doesn’t have children of her own.” He mumbled as he was met with a glare from his mother “I haven’t seen her in months, I saw you last week.” Ellen corrected him as she rolled her eyes “now how have you been sweetheart?” She smiled as she tucked Harpers hair behind her ears.
Quinn couldn’t help but notice how she had cut her hair. The ends of her once died hair was now gone as Harper let her natural hair grow to her collar bone that was hidden by her turtle neck “I’ve been good.” Harper nodded as she fiddled with her teddy bear bracelet.
It had been a gift from Trevor for your twenty first and as she never took it off it was the constant reminder that she was Trevor’s. The title might not have been written in stone but for each time he’d smile at her and Harper would reciprocate, the image spoke more than a thousand words.
But as a laugh left his lips her head snapped in his direction “what’s so funny?” Harper furrowed her eyebrows as she grew irritated “can’t a guy laugh Harps?” Quinn smirked as he rested his head on his hands “I’m gonna go talk with her okay?” Jack nodded as he grabbed her hand pulling Harper out of the room.
The duo couldn’t help but sit on the corner of the living room as they caught up “god I’ve missed you.” Jack sighed as he wrapped his arms around her “you saw me two weeks ago!” Harper laughed as she shook her head “and we were on FaceTime yesterday!” She added as the boy kissed her head letting out a scoff.
His arms squeezed around her “let me as your best friend miss you!” He emphasized on the last two words as he smiled “I’ll always let you miss me.” Harper giggled as she kissed his temple “you two sure you haven’t fucked?” Luke’s vulgar words made them both laugh as Jim reached up to hit his son’s head.
The best friends snickered only going quiet as Quinn glared at them “I wouldn’t laugh if I was you Harps.” The boy twirled his finger in her direction “last time I checked you had cobwebs up there.” His words made her lips form an o as she scoffed.
It seemed as though everyone was quiet as they watched the interaction between the duo “please I get plenty of s-” Harpers rebuttal was cut off when Jack gagged “okay eww.” He scrunched his face in disgust silently praising the lords as the doorbell rang “behave.” Jim warned glaring at Quinn before he went to the door.
For the most part the night went smoothly, with Quinn sat on one side of the table and Harper on the edge. They had Jack and Luke amongst both her family members as well as a few more members of the Hughes family along side friends to bulk out the table. It was as though Quinn and Harper weren’t even in the same room with how little they acknowledged each other “so your mom told me that you got a job in Vancouver?” Ellen smiled as she turned her attention to Harper.
It made the young girl freeze as she was in the middle of eating a piece of broccoli “couldn’t get enough of me Harps?” Quinn teased as it made the table tense “trust me I would not be calling you when I’m there.” Harper let out an unimpressed scoff as she threw fork onto her plate.
His lips formed a smirk as he realized that he had gotten to her “can I get that in writing?” As Quinn pushed out of his chair she did the same “the only thing you’re going to get from me is my foot up your ass!” Her fists clenched as she knew he was going to act like this when he found out.
Her mom grew embarrassed as she placed her hand over her mouth “didn’t think someone as dry as you could have been so kinky.” The hockey player wriggled his eyebrows as he shrugged “god you are so infuriating!” Harper stomped her foot on the ground.
Luke looked down at his plate as he tried to avoid the harsh glares that were being sent over the table “c’mon Harps, you know I’m the only person who would be able to put up with your ass-” the words flew out of Quinn’s mouth quicker than anyone could have processed “I’m gonna do just fine in Vancouver without you Quinn.” She spat as she pushed her hair out of her face.
The table stayed silent as she stepped closer to him “because I’d rather die a cold miserable death before I ever go crawling to you.” As the gap between them both dispersed into nothing “so respectfully go fuck yourself!” Harper pressed her finger in his chest as she turned to see everyone at the table staring back at the duo.
It made her cheeks grow warm “excuse me.” She mumbled turning her heel as she almost dashed to the bathroom “could you not have just kept your mouth shut for one god damn night?” Jack’s anger echoed through the hall as she pushed open the bathroom door.
As the cool water hit her face the ringing in her ears subsided as the anger in her heart began to wear off. Whilst she had gotten used to the constant back and forth with him part of Harper began to grow tired of this as she did hope that Quinn and her could move on from where they were in their relationship. Maybe it was naive but this year it finally felt like they were’t going to have to try and bite each other’s heads off.
So as Quinn sunk further into his seat hearing the lectures come from each member of his family. His mind drifted to the girls words, did she seriously mean that she hated him enough to rather be dead than get with him “you’re back.” Jack sounded as though he let out a sigh of relief as he watched Harper tuck her hair behind her ears before she joined the table again.
The rest of dinner went down quietly as everyone avoided any topic of her going to Vancouver fearing that they would irritated Quinn and start up that argument again. Quinn watched her stay silent only sending Jack the occasional nod as he spoke about how his season went. Just like always Harper was first to jump up to help with the dishes and this time it was more pressing as she was desperate to avoid Quinn.
So much so that she went as far as to use the route she swore he wouldn’t. Yet the universe seemed to want to screw with them both as it sent her crashing into his chest “shit!” He groaned looking up to see a mistletoe right above them.
Panic set in as Harper stared up at the plastic decoration that hung from the ceiling “we don’t have-” Quinn began as he was cut off when his younger cousins let out a squeal “kiss her Quinn!” The girls played their hands on their face as they stared at the duo who stood in front of them.
Harpers cheeks turned red as she frozen “you guys should go upstairs so you can go to bed!” Quinn went to shoo them away but it was a punch to her gut “think I’m gonna go home.” Her parents were only down the road and as she had left the last of the dishes in the kitchen.
Quinn cursed himself as he turned around to stop her only to see her practically already bolted in the other direction “fuck!” He groaned watching her pull her coat from the rack before she waved goodbye to members of the family that she actually wanted to see.
As Harper made her way back to the door she couldn’t help but look back silently praying to see Quinn’s eyes. But the only thing she found was the back of his head as he was already headed upstairs and with that any hope of things ending differently went along with him.
Harper ended up barely getting ready for bed before Luke got her on the phone to talk. Luke had weirdly found himself in the role of being her little listener. As much as she valued her relationship with Jack, there were simply some things that she knew were better left secrets to her best friend.
Luke also got the role after he made the mistake asking her what was on her mind one night as she sat staring at the stars at the lake house. Harper was drunk and as tears streamed down her face wishing that Quinn would stop hating her. As he was the only one who knew how she truly felt about his eldest brother, it meant Luke was the one she confided in.
It was clear that she was irritated as she braided her hair rambling on about how Quinn had pissed her off “and he couldn’t even kiss me after he stared at me like a fucking fool!” She scoffed honestly not knowing what she wanted from the scenario “like Jesus Christ am I that fucking bad?” Luke remained silent as he knew the simple reason behind her outburst was that her pride was hurt.
Nobodies ego handles rejection well and Harper swore she was the idiot for running away “maybe it’s about time you moved on Harps?” Quinn froze as he heard the question linger on Luke’s lips “you know part of me still thinks that there is a part of him that is good f’me.” The fears in the oldest Hughes boy turned to jealousy as he furrowed his eyebrows.
But as Luke’s laughter echoed in his ears, the little self restraint that Quinn had left stopped him from opening the door “that’s because you’re still in love with Quinn!” Anyone who could have heard that sentence through the young boys giggles should have deserved a prize “shut up!” Harpers groan brought him back to earth as his chest began to rise in a mild panic.
He began to step away feeling like he had heard too much of a private conversation “you okay Quinn?” Ellen furrowed her eyebrows as she walked out of her room wanting to go downstairs for a glass of water before she went to bed “I need to clear my head.” Quinn announced as he nodded.
Like any concerned mother she reached out to grab his hand “it’s almost midnight.” She pointed out looking down to her watch “I just need to go for a walk.” Not much went through his mind beyond the fact that Quinn knew he needed to see Harper.
He almost pleaded with his mom just desperate to get out of that house “I’ll be back in a bit.” Quinn gave his mom the briefest of hugs before he left “pretty sure it’s my eldest who is the weirdest.” She mumbled to herself as Luke was still on FaceTime “love you too.” As the words came from him Ellen just sighed “spoke too soon.” She mumbled as she shook her head.
Quinn felt panic coarse through his body as he ran the route to your parents house like it could have been clockwork for his brain. The light in her room was the only one that was on as she had always been one for those late nights. Soft sounds of Christmas carols echoed through her ears as she had just gotten into her pyjamas.
The soft patter of a knocks on the window made Harper freeze as she saw the shadow of someone’s figure behind it “go away!” She called out grabbing Jacks old hockey stick that had been left in her room. But as the figure didn’t move Harper slowly walked to her window nervously gripping to the side of the curtain as she pulled it to the side.
Her eyes went wide as she was faced with Quinn “what the hell.” She mumbled to herself as he was barely safe on the tree that was next to her bedroom “open up!” He begged tapping the glass.
Harper nodded as she pushed it up opening the pane as she moved to the side “Quinn it is so late.” She pointed out seeing her alarm clock with the red numbers illuminating the black screen on her side table “do you love me?” His question echoed in her ears as alarm bells rang.
It truly felt like her world had stopped as she looked to find any kind of argument what was better than the simple word no “it doesn’t matter.” She shook her head as she chewed at the inside of her cheek “like hell it does!” Quinn was careful to not let his voice reach above a certain octave as he feared at he would wake her parents up.
Her hands formed fists “so you want to hear me say that I’ve loved you since I was ten?” She blurted out sending him a glare “that I feel sick but how much I care about what you think?” Harper took a step closer to him “what makes it worse is that you don’t even care that I have you on that pedestal.” Tears formed in her eyes as she pressed her finger into his chest.
Quinn watched her stare at him as he was almost left speechless “you love me?” He repeated the words as it made her let out a dry scoff “I am fucking obsessed with you.” She nodded feeling her cheeks turn red from the attention he sent her.
Not often did Quinn feel trapped but in that moment he swore was in shackles “god this was stupid.” Harper laughed as she shook her head before she pushed to leave him “I haven’t stopped thinking about the time I had to watch you leave his room at the lake house.” Quinn didn’t need to say who he was talking about because as her eyes went wide she knew it all.
The moments that Harper thought were only better her and Trevor actually involved Quinn too “I spent nights wondering if I could be what you not only wanted but also deserved.” His words only enraged her “why the hell didn’t you kiss me under the mistletoe!” Harper didn’t want to reveal just how much that had felt like a slap in the face but as her eyebrows furrowed she just grew more visibly confused.
Quinn rolled his eyes “I didn’t kiss you because I wanted the first kiss I got with you to be one you wanted.” His words made her go quiet “you wanted to kiss me?” Her pupils were blown as the musky scent of his cologne ran through her nose.
He nodded reaching out to cup her cheeks “I have since you punched me for taking that stick.” Quinn looked to the one that she had used minutes ago as a weapon to ward off the risk that she thought Quinn was “think you should have kissed me then.” Harper teased as she smirked.
It made Quinn laugh “you gonna let me?” As she nodded it made the hockey player melt as he stared at her lips. Now neither one truly remembered how it happened but as Harper pushed to her tippy toes and Quinn dropped his head their lips met on what felt like perfection.
If Harper was going to talk about it she’d say that not even the Greek gods could have written something like this, Quinn was crafted for her. His lips moulded into hers letting them join together like the final two pieces of an over complicated puzzle. So as she pulled away the taste of her peppermint chapstick tingled on his lips “merry Christmas Harps.” He mumbled pecking her lips once more as it made them both smile.
They silently stared at each other as they stood there “don’t be a stranger in Vancouver?” The question reminded her of the conversations over dinner “wouldn’t dream of it Quinn.”
As Harper watched the sun come up she thought about the elements that almost seemed too good to be true, but all she knew was that she was going to have to thank that little green Christmas decoration for tonight.

Relationship: Quinn Hughes x Sarah Roberts (OFC)
Warnings: Periods, Menstruation, talks of blood, and embarrassment. If I missed something, please let me know.
Summary: When Quinn wakes to Sarah frantically cleaning after unexpectedly getting her period, he insists she let the cleaners deal with it.
Word Count: 750
Comments: Thank you to the Lovely Anon who requested this. Your request came in, and my mind immediately started whirring.
I saw you like fancfic ideas. for the Quinn and Sarah series: Maybe Sarah gets her period at an inconvenient place and Quinn helps her deal with it. Or maybe she bleeds through while she’s sleeping and he’s super sweet about it. Major fluff
Let the Cleaners Deal with it
A Quinn & Sarah Snapshot
It was too early for either of them to be up. The city lights were still visible through the windows, the inky night sky spilling out behind their artificial glow. Even still, Sarah was up and rustling around. From her movement, she sounded almost frantic.
“What are you doing?” Quinn asked. His voice was groggier than he expected and he cleared his throat.
“I'm just - cleaning up.”
“What?” he asked, sitting up.
She blew a harsh breath out of her nose, “I got my period.”
With an ice cube in one hand and paper towels in the other, she was trying to work the blood out of his soft, expensive sheets.
Now that his eyes had adjusted to the dim Quinn could see the small spot on the gray-blue material. Scooting closer, he reached for her hand, stopping the frenzied way she was attacking it with the ice.  “You don't need to do that. The cleaners can get it out.”
She made a noise in her throat, pulled her wrist out of his grasp, and continued on. “Quinn I got blood on your sheets. It's better to get it out now while it's fresh so it won't stain,” she said, pressing the paper towel down to soak up the blood and water.
This time, he reached out and took the ice cube from her hand. He regretted it immediately. Even though it forced her to stop, he didn’t have anywhere to put it. Now it was melting, cold water trickling between his fingers
She finally looked up and met his eyes, embarrassment all over her pretty face.
He knew he was still partially asleep, but he didn’t know why she was making such a big deal of this. It’s not like she could help it. “Why are you so worried?”
“I'm twenty seven years old. I've been getting a period for thirteen fucking years. I should have a handle on this by now,” she said, arms crossing over her chest as her shoulders shrugged almost to her ears as if she were trying to hide.
Quinn rubbed his eyes, willing his mind to wake. “Didn’t you tell me last week that your IUD makes it so your cycle is hard to predict?”
“Yeah.”
“So how would you know it was coming?”
“I don't know,” she said, exasperated, throwing her hands up.
“Do you need anything? Tampons or whatever?”
“No, I had a disc in my bag.”
“Do you have cramps? Do you need me to get you some Tylenol or get you off?”
She arched an eyebrow.
“What? Isn't having an orgasm supposed to help with period cramps?”
“Yeah, but why do you know that?”
“I've had other girlfriends, Sar,” he reminded gently. “I know because they told me.”
She wrinkled her nose, not liking to think about his past girlfriends.
“So no cramps? Or yes, cramps?”
“No. I don't really get them anymore with the IUD. I'm just really fucking embarrassed,” she said, her free hand covering her eyes.
“This is just your body doing what it does, except it didn't give you any warning,” Quinn said. “I promise the cleaners can get it out. They’ve gotten all kinds of stains out of my clothes before.”
Her shoulders dropped, almost defeated.
“Come back to bed,” he said, scooting back to his side, and wiping his hand on the duvet cover.
“The sheets are all wet now,” she said, pressing the paper towels in again, attempting to soak up the moisture.
He tsked. “Guess you’ll have to sleep on top of me then,” he said, waggling his eyebrows.
She laughed and threw the paper towels in the trash can.
Slipping under the covers, she didn’t get on top of him, but she did crowd into his half of the bed.
“Thank you for being so understanding about this,” she said, her voice quiet and chagrined.
“It’s not like you can help it,” he said, rolling onto his side so he could pull her against him and tuck his nose into her hair.
She tried to fall back to sleep, but it didn’t come. She couldn’t get his casual invitation to get her off out of her mind.
“Quinn,” she whispered a little later, trailing her fingers up his arm.
“Hmm?” His voice was low and sleepy.
“Does that offer to get me off still stand?”
He huffed a laugh into her hair, even as his hand inched down her stomach. “Did those cramps set in?”
“Something like that.”

Sarah Meets the Parents
A Quinn & Sarah Snapshot
There weren't many things Ellen could say she knew for certain, but she did know her eldest son had never been in love.
In high school, he thought he'd been in love as much as a teenager can without the maturity or full understanding of the concept. When he got to college, he dated, but every girl they met seemed to be in his life for convenience more than because of any kind of real chemistry. Then there was the mess with June. He'd been so in lust with her that he overlooked and defended all her actions to his own detriment.
Quinn had been what he thought was head over heels about her. Each time Ellen tried to bring up any concerns, he bulldozed over her worry, explaining away every bad thing June said or did. The only thing he seemed to hear when Ellen brought it up was the, “I like her,” part of the conversation, while brushing aside the follow up, “but I'm worried.”
When they met her, Quinn had been nervous, almost as if he was bracing for the worst. It was a strange thing to hear him talk about how much he liked her, while at the same time acting a bit scared of how she would react to things.
It was terrible to watch him get into that relationship, calling it love when it clearly wasn’t - at least not on June's part - and then after it finally fell apart, having to dig his way out again.
Over the past few months, she'd noticed a change in Quinn.
He called to ask her about supporting someone in grief, but didn’t tell her anything other than he was going out with someone who had lost a parent.
Since then, he’d talk about this girl - this woman - named Sarah every time they were on the phone. She naturally dropped into their conversations about what he’d been doing. After a month, she’d asked him, “Are you dating her?”
“Yeah,” he’d admitted as his cheeks went ruddy over the facetime video, “I really like her.”
Quinn often blushed - that pale skin of his didn’t hide much - but she’d never seen him blush over a girl quite like this. He seemed almost bashful.
He told her how Sarah was in grad school, and how they got along so well. He didn’t always give details, but she could see that he was happy and more settled than she'd seen him in a long time.
When Luke had called to ask her if she knew he had a girlfriend, the only thing that shocked her was that he was using that term before telling her about it. Even more so that he hadn’t told his brothers about her at all.
When she found out the title “girlfriend” had come from Brady and not from Quinn himself, and they talked about his reasoning for holding back from his brothers, it made much more sense.
Coming to Vancouver this time, she wasn’t sure if this certainty would continue to hold true or not.
On the surface, she and Jimmy were coming in to visit Quinn and hopefully see the Canucks clinch into their first playoff berth since 2020. Their first real playoff berth since the mid 2000s. Even with all that excitement, they also wanted to meet this woman Brady liked well enough to jump straight into calling Quinn's girlfriend.
Knowing things in his life had changed didn't prepare her for the shift she saw in Quinn when he picked them up from the airport.
He hopped out of the car and hugged her tightly. “I'm so glad you're here,” he said before hugging Jim and helping him load the bags.
This was the same song and dance he did every time they came to visit, but this time, Quinn had a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step she'd never seen before. He was even humming on the drive to his condo, despite the city traffic.
They were already in different territory than they’d been with June. Quinn was a little nervous now. She could see it in the tap of his fingers on the steering wheel and the way his left knee bounced, but it wasn't that same kind of bracing nervousness it had been with June. This seemed more like the jittery nerves he used to get before a big game when he was younger. He seemed hopeful.
They talked about their flight and things back home in Michigan.
“Are we still meeting Sarah?” Jim asked. He had a way of cutting straight to the heart of a conversation. It was a skill Ellen had appreciated all their life together.
“Yeah, she's at my place,” Quinn said with this goofy little smile she didn’t see on him very often. “She was making dessert when I left.”
More than just to appease her maternal anxiety, Ellen was so interested to meet this woman who had turned her intense, hockey obsessed little boy into such a love boat.
“I think you're really going to like her,” he was saying.
If she made Quinn this happy, Ellen had no doubt she would.
Glancing at Jimmy in the back seat, she found him watching Quinn with a quiet intensity. When he noticed her gaze, he turned a reassuring smile on her.
When the door to Quinn’s apartment opened, Sarah took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment. This was an exciting and joyous occasion. It was also nerve wracking, sad and a little bit painful, and it was okay to hold all those things at once. She imagined welcoming each emotion into her heart and mind like Jenny, her therapist, had taught her. It was better to feel them than to stuff them down.
Treat them as visitors, she reminded herself, no emotion lasts forever.
“I’ll go get her,” she heard Quinn say.
The excitement shining in his face when Quinn came into the kitchen made her smile.
He gathered her into a quick, tight hug, “you ready?”
She tucked her face into his neck for a moment, holding him a little longer to fortify herself.
“Okay, I'm ready,” she took a step back, “I don't have anything in my teeth, do I?”
“No, you're good.”
Taking her hand, he led her into the living room where his parents were waiting, standing in front of the couch.
“Sarah,” Quinn said, finding himself less nervous than he expected, “these are my parents, Ellen and Jim. Mom, dad, this is Sarah.”
The first thing she thought was how Quinn had pieces of both his parents: Jim’s wide smile and thick chest, and Ellen's bone structure.
Ellen was lithe and strong - shaped like a woman who was an athlete all her life, even as an empty nester. Jim looked like a jovial dad - like most of her friends' fathers, like her own too - who played sports when they were younger, but were a bit more relaxed in their later years.
To Ellen, Sarah looked like the kind of girl she always hoped her boys would end up with. She had a kind smile and hopeful, smart eyes.
Quinn was obviously in love with her. He was practically glowing with it. He looked at her like she was the best, brightest thing in the room - like he’d never get bored of seeing her face. She’d never seen him look so lovestruck before. She didn’t know he even could.
“It’s so nice to meet you,” Sarah said, extending her hand, “Quinn talks about you all the time.”
Jim took her hand in both of his and gave her a friendly smile. “It’s nice to meet you too.”
Ellen bypassed her hand, and went in for a quick hug.
Quinn watched as the surprise on Sarah’s face melted into a smile as they embraced.
Feeling the nervous energy radiating off of Sarah, Ellen tried to put her more at ease. “You're so much prettier than Quinn let on,” she said as she stepped back. They’d seen pictures of her - well one picture of her. The selfie Quinn had shared with his brothers. The photo didn’t capture how blue her eyes actually were or show any of her curvy figure.
“Oh, thank you,” she said, a flush glowing on her cheeks.
The conversation lulled and Quinn jumped in. “Well, dinner’s ready if you’re hungry,” he said, gesturing over his shoulder, “or we can relax for a while before we eat.”
“I’m famished,” Jim said, holding a hand to his stomach.
“Then let's eat.”
As they settled around the table, Ellen took note of the way Sarah helped Quinn bring out dishes before finally settling into the seat on his left.
“So, Sarah,” Jim said once they'd all dished up, “Quinn tells us you golf.”
She swallowed quickly, nodding. “Yeah, my dad taught all of us when we were young. We went every Sunday as a family until I left for college.”
“I bet you’re pretty good then.”
“I’m decent,” she said with a shrug.
Quinn rolled his eyes. “She shot the lights out and beat us all last weekend. Petey included.”
She gave a smile to her dinner plate, but didn’t deny it or try to placate Quinn’s feelings. Ellen instantly liked that about her.
“What does your dad do?”
“Ma,” Quinn cut in, an exasperated look on his face.
Sarah lay a hand over his, “it’s fine.” Looking back to Ellen, she said, “my dad was an aerospace engineer, but he passed away four years ago.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she said, shaking her head, “I forgot Quinn told us.”
“Thank you, but it’s really fine. I don’t expect everyone to remember - it’s just part of life.”
While Sarah took the faux pa with grace, Quinn was a little embarrassed his mom didn’t remember.
“And you’re getting your PhD?” Jim asked.
“I’m not quite to that level,” she said with a self-deprecating laugh. “Just my masters. You really only need a doctorate if you want to teach and that's not really something I'm interested in.”
“In Marine Biology?”
“Zoology,” she corrected, “they’re similar fields, but we focus solely on the animal kingdom rather than ocean life as a whole.”
“I bet that’s fascinating,” Ellen said.
“I think it is, but I’ve always loved the ocean.”
“So what will you do with that degree?”
“Mostly work in aquariums, but there’s some work in conservation, which I feel really passionately about, so I’d prefer that.” She paused for a moment before continuing, “Ellen, Quinn told me you're working with the national women's hockey team, that must be really cool.”
Ellen had come into this dinner thinking she would have to drive the conversion like she had with most of the girls her boys dated. It was a refreshing change of pace to find Sarah willing to do part of the work.
“Yeah. It's nice to step into that coaching role formally for the first time. It's really amazing to see how far the sport has come for women.”
“Oh, I bet,” Sarah said. “I started following the new women's league after I met Quinn and it's cool to see them play on such a big stage.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, I hardly knew anything about hockey when we met. So I started reading articles, and I subscribed to The Athletic, and I know a little more now. It's a whole world I'm still trying to figure out.”
The dedication that showed was impressive.
“You'd never watched hockey before?” Jim asked.
“I mean, I'm sure my dad had it on during the Olympics, but I never paid that much attention to it.”
“Remind me where you're from?”
“Nevada.”
“I bet there weren't many opportunities for you to see hockey when you were a kid.”
“No,” she laughed.
When dinner wound down, Sarah got up to clear the table.
“You don’t need to do that,” Ellen said. “You helped with the meal.”
“You all haven’t seen each other in so long. I’ll take care of the dishes while you catch up,” she said, reaching under Jims protesting arm to lift his plate.
Ellen smiled gratefully at her and tried to think if any of her boys had dated such thoughtful women before.
Glad for a moment alone to gather her thoughts and emotions, Sarah loaded the dishwasher before finishing the tart.
Surprisingly, the sadness she'd expected to feel never came. At least, not as strongly as she'd braced for. It seemed the build up and worry were worse. Instead, nerves sparked and fizzed in her stomach.
Before he'd left for the airport, Quinn had reassured her she didn’t have anything to worry about. While Ellen seemed especially friendly, she had a harder time reading Jim, who seemed to hold his cards closer to his chest.
At the very least, it was going better than when she met her college boyfriend's parents, who outright told her she was too good for their son while he sat across the dinner table. To this day, it was the most backhanded compliment she’d ever been given. It told her so much about his home life and explained the snide remarks he would make when she made a mistake or did something differently than he expected. She’d ended the relationship shortly thereafter.
As she arranged the raspberries, she hoped Ellen and Jim actually liked her, and weren’t just putting on a show to her face.
“I like her, Quinny,” his mom said when he asked what they thought.
He beamed.
“I can tell she’s very driven.”
“Yeah,” Quinn agreed. “I like that about her.”
“I just worry -”
His smile slipped a bit.
“You work in such different fields, and lead such different lives.”
“So?”
“Well, I mean, what happens if you get traded somewhere where you’re not near the ocean?”
“I hadn’t really thought that far ahead. I’ve been so focused on making the playoffs,” he admitted. Plus, he had three more years in Vancouver and would gladly stay longer if it was still a good fit.
“Like I said, I like her. She seems really sweet and I can tell you like each other a lot, but I want you to pay attention to some of the things that might not be all sunshine and rainbows down the road. Relationships are about compromise, and I'm worried some of the compromises you may have to make might cause more of an impact than you’re used to.”
“Yeah, those are some good points," Quinn agreed. "I’ll talk with her about it.” He knew this honeymoon phase would end eventually. They were four weeks from the playoffs and three weeks from her finals. The next month would be a test, that was for sure.
A relieved smile slid onto Ellen's face. He was being far more mature about this than he had when she expressed hesitations about June. Some of the worry uncoiled in her chest.
“What do you think, dad?”
“She’s very pretty.”
“And?”
“And what?”
“She’s pretty? That’s all you have to say?”
“I don’t know, Q. I just met her. She’s pretty. She seems very smart.”
Quinn dropped it. His dad would tell him what he thought eventually, but trying to pry an opinion out of him before he was ready was fruitless.
All the same, Jim lit up when Sarah came in with the chocolate tart.
“That looks delicious,” he said. “What's in it?”
“It's a chocolate cream mousse over a layer of caramel in a dark chocolate and almond crust. The raspberries on top help to cut some of the richness.”
“That sounds delicious.”
Ellen took a bite, and felt her eyes flutter closed, “Sarah, this is divine.”
“Thank you. It was my dads favorite.”
Quinn put a comforting hand on her knee.
“It’s going to be dangerous to have this in the house,” Jim said, joking.
“Oh, I can take it to school tomorrow if you don’t want it around,” she offered.
“I’m not sure I’m willing to give it up.”
She laughed, and Quinn shot her a quick, reassuring grin.
“Are you free tomorrow before the game?” Ellen asked when Sarah announced she should probably head home.
“Well, I have class in the morning, and then I’m at the aquarium until three, but I’m free afterward.”
“I was thinking about getting a manicure and wondered if you wanted to go together.”
“Oh, I can’t do manicures because my hands are always in the tanks.”
Ellen felt her hesitations go up. When she had asked June this same thing, June had shot her down, telling her she’d just had her nails done. She didn't seem to catch the subtext of wanting to spend some time together without the boys around.
“But I would love to get a pedicure if that might work?”
“That sounds great. We can do that and then meet Jim for dinner and all go to the game together.”
“That sounds really nice.” she said before yawning, “I’m sorry, I was up at 5 this morning to study for an exam. I’ve got to get home.”
“I’ll drive you,” Quinn offered, slipping a protective arm around her.
He told his parents, who were sharing a silent conversation with their eyes, he'd be back and led Sarah down to the parking garage.
As soon as they were in his car, he asked, “so, what do you think?”
“They’re really nice,” she said. “I can’t tell if your dad likes me or not, though.”
“That's just Jim,” he assured, reaching over to lace their fingers together. “He doesn't like most people when he meets them, but he'll come around.”
They were quiet for a while as Quinn brushed his thumb over her palm. Finally, he asked, "you okay?"
The very fact that he was checking in made her swoon a little.
"Yeah. It actually wasn't that bad. I mean, I miss them, but it wasn't as painful as I expected."
He squeezed her hand, "I'm glad."
"Thank you for checking."
Briefly taking his eyes off the road, he cast a startled look in her direction. "Why wouldn't I check in?"
"I don't know, just," she matched their fingertips together, gently pushing to move his, "it's just really nice to be seen."
He understood that. Sarah saw pieces of him most of the world didn't. With her, he wasn't Quinn Hughes, hockey prodigy. He was just Quinn, and she liked all the quieter parts of him, too.
"I'll see you tomorrow," he said as he pulled up to her building.
Leaning over the console, she kissed him goodbye, lingering a little longer than usual.
"See you tomorrow," she echoed once she pulled away.
He watched her walk into the building before driving home.
The following afternoon, Sarah had to race across town as soon as she was off work to make the appointment Ellen had set up at a ritzy spa downtown.
“I’m so sorry,” she said, blustering into the waiting area, “the train was late, and I was…I got here as fast as I could.”
“It’s fine,” Ellen said, giving her a quick squeeze before walking to the desk to let the attendant know everyone in their party had arrived.
They got changed into their robes and were seated in some fancy chairs above marble foot basins. Sarah had never done anything this lavish. She went to get pedis with her mom and sister, but that was always down at the salon in the mall.
“Have you come here before?”
“Only once, but it was so lovely, I’ve thought about coming back every time we visit.”
“It’s very nice.”
Ellen hadn’t failed to notice the way Sarah's eyes popped when they walked into the serene pedicure room. A part of her was relieved she wasn't used to such luxury.
“It’s a little more opulent than what I’m used to back home,” Ellen admitted with a little laugh, “but it’s nice for a special occasion.”
Sarah felt herself relax.
Since the night before, Ellen felt a bit like she'd stepped into some kind of time warp. She'd glanced away from her oldest son, and when she looked back, everything in his life had changed. Even the phone calls and facetimeing hadn’t prepared her for the way Sarah was in Quinn’s life in what already seemed like such a permanent way.
Instead of watching their relationship bloom like she had with Luke and Kylee, who had followed a natural progression that was easy to track as they went from friends, to dating, and now long distance with Kylee already making plans to move to New Jersey when she graduated from Michigan, she was coming into something nearly fully formed.
She was glad for this time alone to get to know Sarah a little more.
“So, tell me about your research.”
Sarah explained about Walter and how the hormone testing was going. She was writing a publication on it for her grant writing class that semester, and hoped to have it published in a scientific journal.
“That sounds really interesting.”
“It is. It’s wild to see how he reacts to those small changes. It’s really rewarding to gather results with such traceable data.”
“I bet. What do you do for fun?”
“I honestly don’t have a lot of free time. Between school and work and spending time with Quinn, there’s not much leftover, but I really like reading, and I like to golf and hike when I can.”
“You don’t do any ocean sports?”
“I surfed casually when I was in Hawaii, but the water’s so cold here, I haven’t picked it up again.”
“You lived in Hawaii?”
“For about two years. I was working with a conservation non-profit. That’s where my love for the ocean really bloomed.”
“We’re going this summer. You’ll have to give us some recommendations.”
They talked for a long time about their vacation. Sarah promised to write up a list of suggestions. Ellen wondered if she might be joining them. Kylee was staying home, but that was because of a prior engagement on her part.
“And Quinn’s been treating you well?” she asked, bracing for the response. Not that she expected Sarah to be totally truthful to her face.
“Oh, yes,” she said, not missing a beat. “He's the best guy I've ever dated.”
“Really?” The realistic side of her never expected to hear that. Ellen knew her sons. She knew how they could be selfish and too competitive and too focused on hockey.
“Yeah. I mean, he gets in his head sometimes, but I do too. I was just thinking last night about how he's just the most caring person. I've never met someone so driven that's so kind and dedicated to the people in his life.”
The sincere look in Sarah's face told her just how truthful that statement was. It was the fulfillment of so many of her motherhood goals all at once, Ellen nearly teared up. “I'm really glad to hear that.”
Sarah smiled, and fiddled with the robe tie around her waist.
“Have you talked to the boys yet?” Ellen asked, even though she knew the answer.
“The boys?”
“My other boys, Jack and Luke?”
“Oh, yeah, we talked over facetime last week,” Sarah said.
“Was it okay?” Ellen asked, picking up on the hesitation in her tone.
“I think so? Jack seemed kind of closed off, which, from the way Quinn talks about him, I didn’t really expect.”
“I think that’s probably Quinn’s fault. He didn’t tell them about you until you met Brady, and usually he would have, so I think Jack’s feeling a little put out.”
“I didn't…why didn't he tell them?” she asked, wondering if perhaps he was embarrassed and wanted to make sure Brady approved before he was willing to share her with his family.
“I think you should probably ask Quinn that, but it had a lot to do with June. I don't think he totally trusted himself after they broke up. Jack will come around once he sees how happy you and Quinn are together,” she assured.
Sarah felt herself blush. Hearing Ellen, even indirectly, acknowledge how happy they were, felt like a mountain climbed, like a battle conquered.
At the end of the appointment, Ellen laughed when Sarah pulled her own sandals out of her robe pockets to wear while the polish dried in lieu of the spa supplied slides she was wearing.
“I have this weird thing about wearing shoes that aren’t mine,” she said, slipping on the Birkenstocks. “I know they’re sanitary, but it’s just,” she shuddered, “gross to me.”
After they changed, Ellen beat Sarah out to the reception desk. Sarah pulled her wallet out but Ellen shushed her gently, “it's my treat.”
“Thank you. That's so nice.”
Jim picked them up and drove to a restaurant near the arena Sarah recommended.
As they settled into the booth, Sarah on one side, and Jim and Ellen on the other, she told them, “I like this place because they have a testing menu, so there’s always something new and interesting. I’ve never had anything bad here.”
They talked throughout. Sarah asked Jim about his consulting job, and he explained what he did and how his coaching career helped him get there. Ellen explained more of what she was doing with the women's hockey program.
Even though it was a bit strange and a big step to have dinner with Quinn’s parents without him less than twenty four hours after they met, Sarah was glad to have some time to talk and get to know them a little more. Jim, especially, seemed more friendly.
At the end of the meal, Sarah tapped her card to the payment device before either of them could jump in.
“You didn’t need to do that,” Ellen protested after the waiter walked away.
“You’re guests, you shouldn’t have to pay,” Sarah said.
Also, she wasn’t sixteen. She didn’t need her boyfriend's parents to pay for everything.

When they got to their seats, Jim made sure Sarah was sitting between them. He usually would have put Ellen in the middle, but if she was, he wouldn’t get to talk with Sarah at all.
He wasn’t blind. He saw the way Quinn looked at her, and knew if he had anything to say about it, Sarah would be in their lives for a long time. He needed to bite the bullet and get to know her now.
They made some small talk, but once the game started, Sarah watched with a quiet intensity.
“You look a little confused,” he said, noticing Sarah's furrowed brow half way through the first period.
“I’m…” she paused, “I am.”
“What are you confused about?”
“I can look it up when we go to a commercial break,” she said, not wanting to be an inconvenience.
“I can answer you questions,” he offered.
“Okay,” she said, “but let me know if I'm talking too much.”
“How are you going to learn if you don't ask?” Ellen asked.
“I just…I don’t want to overwhelm you, or take you out of the game.”
Jim smiled, “we’ll let you know if you ask too many questions,” he assured. Most girlfriends he met would just watch, occasionally making comments. It was refreshing that Sarah wanted to understand Quinn's work so much.
When she smiled at him, he saw a flash of what had drawn Quinn to her. She was very pretty, but those bright, intelligent eyes made him want to talk to her. It was as if he knew she would be smart and interesting before she even said a word.
“Okay, so as I understand it, Dallas is running a 2-1-2 forecheck, right?”
Jim blinked and looked at Ellen, who was mirroring his startled expression.
“Right,” he said, confused as to where this was headed. Usually, when he had to explain the rules to someone new to hockey, their first question wasn’t about play strategy.
“So what I don’t understand is why the Canucks aren’t responding in kind. Wouldn’t it make sense to forecheck man to man?”
“Well, firstly, when you’re chasing the other team down, it's referred to as backchecking.”
“Okay, that makes sense."
He continued, “and it doesn’t always make sense to defend man to man. A lot of it depends on the way the coach wants the team to play."
“Okay, so can you explain the Canucks backchecking strategy to me?”
“You know,” Jim said instead of getting into the very complicated reasoning behind play selection, “when you said you had questions, I expected them to be about icing or something.”
“Oh, I asked Quinn and read the rules,” she said, flipping a hand, “I understand most of them now. I just don’t get the coach's motivation sometimes.”
He laughed, “Welcome to being a hockey fan.”
Some of her worry eased at his laughter. Of course Quinn was right. He knew his own family best.
They continued talking through the game. Jim was impressed with the ferocity at which Sarah wanted to understand. She knew more than most of the girls his kids had dated in the past, but it was fairly obvious she got most of her knowledge from reading. Sometimes, when play went into a gray area, she would make a noise in her throat as if that would scold the refs into calling by the book. Even when Quinn ended up in the penalty box for a cross check most of the stadium was up in arms about, she watched the replay, shrugged and said, “I think that call was probably justified.”
Even though the Canucks lost in overtime, it still gave them one of the three points they needed to get to the finals. The whole stadium was buzzing with possibility and hope.
They all left together and Ellen drove her home. When she kissed Quinn goodbye in the back seat, Sarah tried not to feel like an awkward teen getting chaperoned, as if they couldn't be trusted on their own.
Getting back to the condo, Jim was glad for some time alone with Quinn. These moments after big games were something he cherished now that they happened so infrequently.
“You guys really rallied back in the third to get that extra point. I'm proud of you."
“Thanks dad.”
They talked about and dissected the game over another slice of Sarah’s chocolate tart before Quinn asked, “how was dinner?”
“Good,” Ellen said, “though I wish she would have let us pay. She just kind of swooped in and took the bill.”
“She does that sometimes,” Quinn said.
Truthfully, he always hated when she did. He knew she didn’t have a ton of money, and he had more than he knew what to do with.
When he brought it up, she’d shushed him with a comment about being able to pull her own weight.
“She does it with you too?”
“Yeah, she talks about wanting to balance out.”
It was refreshing to find Sarah so independent. Jim didn’t worry about how she would fill her time when Quinn was on the road, or that she was only interested in him because of deep pockets or a ticket to fame.
“I don’t really know how you got her,” Jim said, “but I’m glad you did. She’s a really great girl.”
Quinn beamed, knowing it was the truth.
“I do think your mom’s right, though. You two need to have some conversations about the future. Set some expectations.”
“Yeah, I’ll talk with her about it.”
"You should invite her to the Reunion," his mom said, almost off handedly.
If they wanted her at the family reunion that summer, they saw the same potential he did.
"Okay, I will."

Relationship: Quinn Hughes x Sarah (OFC)
Warnings: None? If I should add any, please let me know.
Summary: As requested by @eyesthatroll, Quinn teaches Sarah to skate.
Word Count: 3,300
Comments: After taking a bit of a breather, I’m back with a requested fic. 2 months after you requested it, your wish is my command, Mari. I hope you enjoy it!
This was an interesting exercise for me to write something requested by someone else that wasn’t necessarily my own idea. I wrestled with it and got in my head a lot about it, but ultimately, I like the result I finally came to.
Thanks for your patience and support. Please let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to see in their universe! I can’t guarantee I’ll write it, but I love the inspiration and challenge these requests bring!
eyesthatroll asked: tory!! i absolutely adore your writing 🥹 maybe if it’s in your wheelhouse, you could write quinn teaching sarah to skate (or them going skating together) for the first time. i think that would be very adorable 😭 it’s totally fine if that’s not in the cards for the series though, don’t feel pressured! love ya! 🫶🏽
Private Lessons
A Quinn & Sarah Snapshot
At the end of every season we have a family skate. It's on the 15th. I'd like to bring you if you can come.
Sarah knew this was a bigger deal than his crafted to be casual text was letting on. If it really was casual, he would have mentioned it before he left for the three game road trip.
She also knew dating a hockey player meant she would have to face her fear and past failure eventually. Even if a team event wasn't involved, it was such a big part of Quinns life. She wouldn't be able to avoid it forever.
Does everyone skate?
Usually yeah. Not all of the partners do, but most.
I've never skated before.
Really?
Desert flower, remember? she sent with a picture of a blooming cactus.
He laughed. There are lots of different skill levels there. People bring their kids and stuff.
Meaning what? That I'll be the only adult with training wheels?
No wheels ;)
She sent a gif of someone rolling their eyes. I'd love to go with you, but I really don't want to be the only one who doesn't know what they're doing. Could I persuade you to give me some private lessons?
I guess that depends on what you’re willing to give me. ;)
I mean, there’s not much I wouldn’t give you. What do you want?
A long pause passed in their conversation. When she finally read his response on her way home, her cheeks pinked so much, she had to put her phone in her bag for fear of giving herself away on the train.
That’s how they ended up at a mostly empty training rink the Wednesday night after he got home.
She found him waiting for her in the lobby, surrounded by a swarm of kids all jockeying for his attention. It looked like a whole little league team was getting out of practice or a game right as he arrived. They were so excited, acting as if he came in just to see them.
Sarah waited off to the side, watching him sign autographs and give advice, and talk to each of them. She was tired and hungry, but seeing Quinn in this element gave her a new side of him to admire. He was patient and kind, and invested. She remembered him telling her how he always liked to talk to kids because he remembered how much it meant to him when his favorite players were willing to stop and talk. Seeing that quite literally come full circle was a gift she hadn’t expected to see.
When he finally looked up and met her gaze, he flashed her a grin and mouthed, thank you.
Smiling in return, she nodded to an empty room off to the side before settling in with her laptop to work on her publication.
A big sigh announced his presence a while later, as Quinn slid down the wall to sit next to her on the floor. “Sorry about that,” he said, wrapping his arms around her and pressing a kiss to her temple.
“It’s fine. I always have stuff to work on, and seeing you with the kids is sweet.”
“Winning me some brownie points?” he asked, waggling his eyebrows.
“Like you even need them.”
Sarah closed her laptop and turned her head so they could finally say hello properly.
He pulled her close to deepen the kiss. Even though he'd gotten back in town after midnight the night before, they hadn’t seen each other until now. He'd debated going to the aquarium after practice, but remembered they wouldn't let him back without a pass the last time he’d tried. Besides, he didn’t want to interrupt her work so close to finals.
The urge to climb into his lap was so strong, Sarah had to pull back from the kiss before she made a public spectacle of herself.
“I missed you,” he said, trailing a finger from her cheekbone to her jaw. It felt like the road trip was finally over now that she was back in his arms.
“I missed you, too.”
“I have to confess something,” Sarah blurted, nerves eating her from the inside out as he showed her how to tie her skates.
Quinn looked up from pulling her laces tight.
“I’ve been skating before.”
One of his eyebrows cocked up, “you have, have you?”
“It was terrible. It was on a first date with this guy when I was a freshman, and I’m pretty certain the only reason he suggested it was so he could get his hands on me.”
Quinn wrapped his hand around her calf and joked, “I guess it’s a good thing I’ve already had my hands on you, then.”
“You’re not mad?” she said, surprised.
“About what? That I’m not popping your ice skating cherry?”
Laughter barked out of her mouth before she explained, “no, that I lied. I mean, I didn’t really lie. We went on ice, on skates, but no real skating was involved.”
“Now I feel like you’re lying,” his voice was teasing.
“After half a wobbly, too touchy lap, I fell and broke my wrist.”
The bemused smile dropped off his lips, “oh my god, Sarah, why didn’t you tell me before?”
Her bottom jaw moved as she worried the inside of her lower lip. “I didn't know when it would come up.” she said. “I mean, if anyone can teach me to skate, you can. But that's why I wanted it to be just us first.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I’ve broken lots of bones skating,” he said, stroking her leg.
She smiled tightly. “I bet none of those were from you falling down.”
“I don’t know, maybe? You’d have to ask my mom, but I fell plenty when I was learning, that’s really normal.”
“It just feels like one of those things that I'll never live down, you know?”
“Well, you and I are the only ones that know now.”
“Yeah and Josh Jackson and all those people at the Reno rec rink.”
“You keep in touch with everyone who was there that night?” he joked, hoping she would see how ridiculous her worry was.
A hand flew up to cover her face as she blushed. “I guess it just lives in my head every time I think about ice skating.”
“I know the feeling, but it was one time seven years ago, right? And you’ve got a better teacher, now.”
She dropped her hands so she could meet his gaze, giving him a hopeful smile.
He changed the subject. “Are these too tight? Can you move your toes?”
“Yeah. I mean, no they're not too tight.”
He smiled, stood and held out a hand, “come on. I can't promise you won't fall, but I'll do my best.”
As they walked through the tunnel to the rink, she said, “This is the weirdest feeling.”
“It can't be worse than wearing heels.”
“Have you ever worn heels?”
“Well, no,” he admitted.
“Then you can't say a damn thing about it. At least in heels, the ball of your foot is on the ground. With this, it's like my feet are suddenly half an inch wide.”
“You're thinking too much.”
“What am I supposed to do, not think?”
“Don't think so much,” he said, stopping at the boards and turning around. “Okay, I'm going to get on and help you on, okay?”
She nodded.
He bit back his smile at the determination on her face. “It's slippery, so be prepared.”
“Gee, thanks, Hughes,” she said, flatly. “I had no idea ice is slippery.”
He laughed. She’d never called him by his last name. Of course it would come out when she was nervous.
“I'll have you the whole time. I won't let you go until you tell me to,” he promised, reaching to help her through.
She stepped on and immediately over corrected, jerking back.
He grabbed her shoulders and pulled her against him to keep them upright. “Calm down,” he said, trying to sound soothing. “I know it's a weird feeling.”
In all actuality, he didn't know. He'd been skating so long it sometimes felt easier than walking.
“Just hold on and let me pull you.”
Skating backwards, he took her on a lap. Her fingers were hooked around his elbows, so he was forced to awkwardly hold the backs of her arms.
“Can you relax? I’ve got you.”
She glanced down and felt her legs wobble. Visions of the ice rushing up to kiss her on the temple made her dizzy.
“Look at me,” he said in a voice that couldn’t be ignored.
Sarah met his eyes. The dim lights over the rink made them a sort of muddy green she’d never seen before.
“If you keep looking down, you’re going to fall,” he said. “You go toward what you look at.”
“I just want to make sure my feet are right.”
“Do you have to watch your feet when you’re walking?”
“Well, no, but this is new.”
“Sure, but once you get over the fact that you’re on the ice and used to your skates, it’ll start to feel more natural.”
“Yeah, I’ll just get over that.”
He shook his head, and moved on. “Okay, start picking your feet up like you’re walking.”
“Like I’m walking?” she repeated. “That seems really counterintuitive.”
“It’s not that different from walking, you're just gliding instead.”
She leveled him with a deadpan, sarcastic look.
She was about to ask him how she was supposed to walk when she couldn’t lift her heel or push off with the ball of her foot, when she realized arguing his syntax wasn't going to get her anywhere. This was a case where she had to swallow her pride and ask for what she needed.
“Can you break it down, like the physics of it, for me?” she asked. “It helps me to see all the steps before I do something.”
As he talked her through the mechanics of skating forward, she held onto his arm. She had so many questions he’d never considered, like how he used his edges to push off.
Skating was so automatic on his part, he didn’t even have to think about it. He’d never had to break down what he was doing like this.
Seeing how his legs worked up close and in slower motion helped her envision doing the same things herself.
“Okay, come back here.”
He moved in front of her again.
“You make that look so easy,” she said, a bit of a whine in her voice.
“Sarah,” he said, swallowing the bite in his tone, “I've been doing this for twenty years. I do this for a living. I'd hope I make It look easy. I couldn't take over writing one of your papers, or come into the aquarium and start taking care of Walter.”
“Yeah,” she said, resigned.
“I know it's frustrating that you can't pick this up right away, but no one can. You can’t read your way into skating well.”
That touched a nerve and she glared at him.
He let go of one of her hands so he could hold his up in surrender. “All I mean is that you just have to physically get used to it. How long did it take you to perfect your golf swing?”
“That’s different.”
“How is that different?”
“I started that as a kid.”
“So? You can learn things now. You learn new things all the time.”
“Yeah. It just feels so daunting. I really don’t want to look like an idiot in front of all your teammates.”
“No one will care. They’re just excited to meet you. We can come back every night I’m in town if you want. Or you can just not skate.”
That caused distress to fly over her face. “No. I can’t do that.”
“Why not?” He glanced behind him out of habit, even though there was no one else on the ice. It was a clean sheet too, freshly zambonied after the pee-wee hockey game that ended right before they arrived. Perfect learning conditions.
Sarah recentered herself by pulling a breath down her spine, “this is such a big part of your life. I want to be able to participate.”
“Yeah?” he asked, a half smile lifting the right side of his mouth.
“Yeah, and like you said, I have a better teacher now.”
“Tell me about your day,” he said.
“Okay,” she answered, dubious of his intentions.
“It’ll help you to stop thinking about what your body’s doing. I think you’ll find it will sort itself out if you let it.”
He could tell she didn’t really believe him, but went ahead anyway, telling him about the little boy at the aquarium that afternoon who had insisted he’d caught an octopus as big as Walter and thrown it back the last time he and his mom had gone fishing.
“I mean, maybe he did,” she said, shrugging. “But his teacher gave me this look like, ‘don’t believe a single word he says’. I felt bad, She just looked so tired of him.”
Quinn laughed and decided not to point out that she was skating perfectly naturally now that she was out of her head about it. “What happened in class?”
“Well, even if I get a C on my comparative physiology final, I’ll still pass the class.”
“That’s huge, Sarah,” he said.
“Yeah, it's such a relief, but then, Paul dropped that he's adding a test on top of our publication. Thankfully it’s not a huge part of my grade, but still, more on the pile. He’s calling it a review, but that just means it’ll cover everything we’ve studied this term.”
“That doesn’t seem fair for him to add that at the last second.”
“Well, he can do what he wants, so,” she shrugged. “He said he thinks we need it. I think he's just being a controlling jackass.”
“Can't you report him or something?”
“For what?”
“For changing the syllabus so late.”
“Well, he's the head of the program, so I can't complain to him, plus if I went to the dean, I'm pretty certain she'd tell me ‘this is graduate school, and you should grow up.’”
Quinn winced.
“Yeah. He's just a dick because he can be. He’s the lord over this little kingdom and he wants us all to know it.”
She shook her head, “I’m sorry, we can be done talking about him.”
“You can keep complaining if you want.”
“No, it's okay. It just makes me more mad, which makes me not want to study, which only shoots me in the foot.”
“Okay,” Quinn said, “I think you’re ready for me to be next to you.”
“What?”
“Yeah, you’ve been skating fine for the last five minutes.”
She looked down as if to confirm, “I have?”
“It’s not like you were standing still.”
“But you’ve been pulling me.”
“I was, but I’ve mostly just been holding your hand, keeping distance. You've been moving yourself forward.”
“Really?” Shaking her head, Sarah laughed a little to herself, “you really are a better teacher.”
He gave her a wink and spun to stand next to her.
“Keep talking,” he encouraged.
“About what?”
She didn’t know what to look at now. There were empty stands, and scratched glass, and the whole smooth sheet of ice, lines etching a curving lacey pattern around the perimeter.
“Whatever you want.”
“I don't -” glancing down, she remembered his advice and jerked up. The sudden movement caused her to promptly fall on her rear with a frustrated grunt.
Her hands fell to her sides in a gesture that said, why is this so hard for me?
“You're doing great.”
“I just fell down.”
“So? I fall all the time. You just need to learn to get back up.”
He did fall, and she was always so impressed with his ability to just pop back up and continue playing as if nothing happened.
He coached her back onto her feet, and they continued around the rink as he told her about the road trip he’d just come home from. Only five days away, but the comeback overtime loss and two wins made it a huge confidence builder.
He admitted that though some of the strain was lessened for the next month with their guaranteed spot in the finals, he still felt so much pressure to perform.
“There was this moment on Friday, though, where we were just gelling, you know, and it felt like ‘we deserve this now.’”
“Of course you deserve it. You work your ass off for that team, Quinn.”
Throwing her a thankful smile, he said, “I mean we all do it together.”
“And you’re a big reason everyone is buying in.”
“Look at you, learning hockey talk.”
“That is something I can read my way into.” she joked. “Plus your mom explained a bunch of the idioms to me.”
He laughed.
She fell twice more, but got up each time. The last time, she even managed to do it without his help.
“You’re doing great,” he praised, moving in front of her again, “you’ll be a natural in no time.”
Pulling herself to him with their clasped hands she winked, “it's because I have the best teacher.”
She was close enough now that he would just have to lean in to kiss her. He did, because he could. They were apart so much, it only made sense to take advantage when they were together.
Whenever people kissed on ice rinks in movies, Sarah was always struck with what a dumb idea it was. It seemed incredibly stupid to not pay attention to what you were doing on such a volatile surface.
In reality, when Quinn kissed her, she melted. It felt so romantic. Cold, but cozy with his warm body pressed against hers, and the confidence in knowing he wouldn’t let her fall. The only sound was the pleasant scrape of their skates on the ice.
Suddenly, everything she’d stopped herself from saying over the past few weeks came bubbling up into her mouth.
Just the night before, she’d felt on the cusp of saying something other than “I miss you,” at the end of their goodnight phone call. She had bit it back, not wanting that first time to happen over the phone. She felt like the moment had to be perfect.
Fuck that, she thought, now. She didn’t want to hold it in anymore. Plus, wasn’t this moment perfect enough?
Pulling away, she waited for him to open his eyes.
After a moment or two, Quinn realized she wasn’t teasing, and met her gaze, “what’s wrong?”
“Nothings wrong.”
Suddenly, it felt too formal. They weren’t in the Elizabethan era where one declared their feelings in some kind of a grand speech, but she couldn’t not say it. It felt too disingenuous to keep holding it in.
“I just…” she brushed her fingers through the hair at the back of his neck as she ran over a few possibilities in her mind rapid fire, dismissing them all for being too much. Honesty, it seemed, was proving to be the best policy. “I just really love you.”
Quinn could feel his eyes crinkling closed as his face melted into a goofy smile, one reserved only for family and people close to him.
It felt like something broke open in his chest, finally set free. “I love you too.”
Sarah giggled and it came out a little watery. She never expected to cry when she told him, but her body always did like to cry over big emotions.
Quinn wiped her tears away with his thumbs before tilting her face up to his.
This kiss was softer, not as hurried. Desire giving way to something deeper – less fickle, and more settled.
As they walked back to the locker room, Quinn realized, suddenly, that he'd left something unsaid. He tugged on her hand, and she turned.
“I’m really proud of you,” he said. “I know you were really nervous.”
She leaned up to kiss him. “Thank you for being a very patient teacher.”

Title: Good For You
Author: Tory / @tkwrites
Relationship: Pre-established: Quinn Hughes x Sarah Roberts (ofc)
Summary: Quinn and Sarah have a discussion about and decide to stop using condoms before putting that decision into practice. A question we’ve all been waiting for is finally asked.
Warnings: smut (18+ only), p in v, unprotected sex (wrap it up unless you’re in a consenting relationship!), cum play (sort of?), if I missed anything, let me know!
Word count: 4,900
Comments: I live!
After two heavy snapshots, steeped in feelings, I’m back with some good old fashioned smut (with lots of plot, of course, because I am who I am). Thanks to the many Nonnies who requested this. I’d already started writing it when you sent this, but your ask challenged me to combine both your requests. I hope you enjoy, and it lives up to your expectations! If you did enjoy, please let me know by commenting, sending in an ask or reblogging! I love reading your comments, asks and suggestions!
Anonymous asked: hey! Another request idea… I was rereading the fic about Sarah being overwhelmed before meeting Quinn’s parents and when they’re talking about the WAG jackets, sarah mentions that they aren’t official yet. Can we get fic of Quinn officially asking Sarah to be his gf? Seriously love readying your stuff!
Anonymous asked: I love how much you actually show the communication between Quinn and Sarah, it makes it so much more real and overall I just love your writing ❤️❤️ I noticed how as their relationship progresses, they decide not to use condoms. Will we get to see this conversation in the future? I'd also love to see when they officially decide to be together with labels and all xxx
Good For You
A Quinn & Sarah snapshot
“Hey, Quinn?” Sarah called, walking up the stairs.
“Yeah?”
She found him on the suede couch, reading a book.
Sitting at his feet, she smiled when he moved them into her lap. “I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Okay,” he put the marker in his book and rested it on his chest.
Color flooded into her cheeks.
“What?” he asked, unable to hold in a nervous laugh at her sudden blush.
“I just,” she paused to lick her lips, trying to screw up her courage. “I wanted to let you know I had an IUD put in last month.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s the most effective form of birth control. It’s pretty much as effective as celibacy.”
He paused, unsure where this conversation was going. When she didn't elaborate, he asked, “So what did you want to talk about? Just that you have it?”
“Well that and —” she knotted her fingers together, “since it’s super effective, and we’re only seeing each other and have been for a while, I wondered if maybe you wanted to…” she trailed off.
Quinn got the feeling he was supposed to know what she was talking about, but he was clueless. “If I wanted to, what?”
Chewing on her lip, she guessed it was time to just spit it out, “I wondered if we both get STI tested, and only if you want to, we could try not using condoms all the time.”
He felt his eyes go wide. “What?”
“I mean, only if you want to. If you feel more comfortable with condoms, that’s totally fine.”
“Are you joking?” he asked, scrambling to sit up. The book slipped off him and fell to the wood floor with a sharp slap. “Of course I want to. Did you think I was going to turn down that offer?”
“I don’t know.”
He moved to kneel, crowding into her space. He could hear his heartbeat in his ears, feel it in his fingertips. “Can we try now?”
A laugh split her mouth into a pretty smile, but she put a hand to his chest to stop him from leaning closer.
“We need to get STI tested first.”
“I’m clean,” he said.
“As far as I know, I am too, but I would feel better if we both got tested, knowing neither of us has slept with someone else in quite a while.”
He looked crestfallen.
“It’s not that I don’t believe you,” she hastened to add, “I’ve just heard horror stories of girls whose boyfriends didn’t know they were carrying something. Most STIs affect women, you know, and men just pass them along.”
His eyes went wide, “really?”
“Just another joy of being a woman.”
“Thats bullshit.”
“Yep,” she agreed, popping the last letter. “So It’s not that I don’t believe you, but I really need that proof for my own peace of mind before I’d feel comfortable.”
“Yeah,” Quinn agreed, “of course. I’ll talk to Roman about it tomorrow.”
“I’ll message my doctor,” she said with a shy smile, pulling out her phone.
Logically, Quinn knew they needed to talk about this before anything could happen, but the thought that he might get to fuck her bare buzzed in the back of his mind so intensely, he wished she had waited until it was an actual possibility, even if that was impossible.
When he asked Roman about it between breakfast and video the next day, the trainer immediately went into crisis mode, “what kind of symptoms are you having?”
“None. I'm just — I want to be safe.”
He was going to tell him that the girl he was seeing — he was getting so sick of using that phrase — asked him to, but that seemed like it was putting all the blame on Sarah. While she did ask for it, he'd just never considered it something he should do. Now that he knew, he was more than happy to do it.
“You're sure? You can tell me, you know.”
“I know. No symptoms. I’m just making sure.”
Roman looked at him appraisingly. “Are you dating someone new?”
Quinn was a bit surprised he hadn't heard about it. It seemed to him it was the only thing the guys chirped him about lately.
“Yeah.”
“Good for you,” he said approvingly. “Glad to know you're being safe.”
Quinn felt a chagrinned smile spread over his face.
“Well, I’m glad to know your girlfriend is safe at least,” Roman said with a laugh.
How was it so easy for him to whip that word around?
“Go to Doctor Jamison's after practice. I'll put in an order for you. They'll just need a blood sample.”
The results took two days. By that time he was on the road. Thankfully, not for too long. Only one game.
He sent her a screenshot of the panel results. All negative, mercifully. He didn't expect to be positive, but he hadn't checked while he was with or after he broke up with June.
She sent back a screenshot of her own test panel, also all negative.
It was suddenly very real. The idea of coming home to Sarah was even more enticing than usual.
He’d fucked girls bare before, he knew the sensations that came along with it, but he’d never fucked Sarah bare before. He’d tried, and she’d insisted on using condoms. He wasn’t going to make her uncomfortable, and he wasn’t going to give up sleeping with her. If that meant he had to wear a condom, he’d do it.
Now that the possibility of making love to her without one was on the horizon, he couldn’t get it out of his mind.
Looks like we'll be coming in about 2, he texted when they got to the arena. They'd fly home right after the game versus Calgary. Want to just stay at my place?
Wish I could, she wrote back, but I have class tomorrow at 8. I'll come to yours as soon as I'm done with work, though.
“What's wrong, Q?” Brock asked, noticing his crestfallen expression.
“Nothing,” he said, shoving his phone into his bag. “Sarah's just got class tomorrow morning so I won't see her until tomorrow night.”
“Man, she's got you whipped.”
Quinn rolled his eyes, playing off the comment. If he protested, he knew they would just chirp him about it more, and there was no way he was going to explain his excitement to Brock.
When the next evening finally rolled around, Quinn found himself pacing, a nervous excitement buzzing through his whole body. He’d never felt like this before. As if anticipation had been winding him up for 4 days straight.
He’d tried his best to burn off as much energy as possible on a run that morning, but that felt like years ago now. Adrenaline was coursing through him by the gallon.
He heard the elevator ding, and his stomach leapt.
Before Sarah could scan in, the door flung open. Quinn was standing there, cheeks already flushed.
She couldn’t help it, she gigged.
“What?”
“You’re just really cute,” she said.
Pulling her into the apartment, he resisted the urge to pull her upstairs straight away. Cool. He needed to be cool.
“Cute in a good way, right?”
“Yes,” she assured, leaning up to kiss him. “In a very good way.”
All of a sudden, the enormity of the situation crashed on him. He and Sarah had had sex 73 times, but this felt totally new. A frantic awkwardness took hold of his mind. How was he supposed to start this? Just like every other time? Every other time, it happened so naturally.
“Hey,” she said, grasping his wrist, trying to stop the overthinking she could practically see scrolling across his face.
He blinked a few times and met her eyes. “Sorry. I’m so… I mean, I’ve never anticipated something like this for so long.” The words were falling out of his mouth before he really had a chance to think through them.
“Yeah, I get that,” she said. “I’m not sure I have either.”
“I don’t want to fuck it up,” he admitted.
A soft smile took over her face. “Quinn, it’s me. We've already had great sex. This is just another step.”
Nodding, he took a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds before letting it out. Excitement reared in his stomach again, waging battle with his nerves.
“I do think we should talk about it, though.”
“Didn’t we already talk about it?”
“I mean, I think we should talk about what we want.”
“What do you mean?”
“Like, what we're looking for.” She moved to sit on the living room couch, pulling him down with her. “I want to make sure we talk about it before we're in the heat of the moment so neither of us do something the other isn’t comfortable with.”
Quinn had never been with someone who communicated as much as Sarah. “It’s a product of the dead parents,” she’d told him when he asked her about it once, “life’s too short to not have the conversation.”
He sat next to her, “okay, so what do you want?”
“I want to feel you fuck me bare.”
The frank way she said it made his whole body ring.
“And I want to feel you come inside me.” It felt dangerous and exciting to say it out loud, but she couldn't get it out of her mind.
“Really?” Quinn asked, voice lilted with surprise.
“Yeah. I've been dreaming about it,” she admitted. For the past few weeks, it seemed every time she would dream of him, the feeling of him filling her was so vivid that when she woke, her underwear would be soaked, almost as if she'd orgasmed in her sleep. “I'm guessing that's something you want, too?”
He nodded.
“Is there anything else you want?”
He opened his mouth, then paused.
She nodded, encouraging him.
“I mean, there is something but it’s not a huge deal.” He was pretty certain she would at least consider it, but history had him trying to not get his hopes up.
“Tell me,” she urged, resting her hand on his knee. “I want to do what you want, too.”
“I want to come on you,” he admitted, the words coming out all in a rush.
Eyes widening, Sarah couldn’t quite stifle the laugh that squeaked from her mouth. “I’m sorry,” she hurriedly back pedaled, seeing the hurt on his face, “I’m not laughing at you, it’s just — with the look on your face, I was bracing myself for something super kinky.”
“June hated it,” he said quietly. “She didn’t like cum at all.”
“So did you just wear condoms all the time?”
“No. She didn’t like those either.”
Her eyebrows furrowed together, an incredulous expression on her face. “You can’t have it both ways.”
Something inside him unknotted.
“I mean, did she insist you come in a tissue every time or something?”
“Most of the time,” he amended, “sometimes I could come in her, but never on her.”
June reminded Sarah so much of the mean girls she’d known throughout her life: content to demand things of others, knowing their social currency was enough to purchase obedience to all of those ridiculous rules. Part of her wondered if June even disliked cum, or if she was just trying to keep Quinn under her thumb.
“Well I don’t have a problem with either. I mean, I don’t really love a facial, but other places are fine.” She paused for a moment, thinking about how often Quinn asked her questions, willing to learn, so he could please her better, “and, I mean, if you’re really invested in coming on my face, we can do it. I just don’t want it all the time.”
He felt his eyelids grow heavy and he swallowed thickly. “You’re sure?”
“Yeah. A relationship is a two way street. You deserve to get the things you want, too. ”
The relieved smile he gave her in response made her want to slap June across the face. Quinn was so, so good — attentive and genuine and so willing to learn and please. She wanted to do the same for him. Besides, it wasn’t like Sarah had some kink for cum, at least she didn’t think she did, but feeling a partners pleasure in such a tangible way, always gave her a deep sense of satisfaction.
“Is there anything else you want?” he asked.
“No. You?”
He shook his head.
“Alright,” she said, “I think we should go upstairs.”
Quinn stopped trying to play it cool. He was too excited to play it cool. He grabbed her hand and raced up the stairs, glad that she laughed as she ran along with him.
She threw open the door to his room. Sarah loved this room. It was in the corner of the building, and huge windows looked over the beautiful Vancouver skyline. The sun was setting, turning the harbor and city windows yellow and pink, casting their colors on the walls and spinning everything else in the room into gold.
Before she could get too caught in the view, he was spinning her around, catching her mouth in a kiss that sucked the breath right out of her.
Clothing was discarded, and they tumbled into his bed.
They surged together and Sarah moaned. It was already so much better.
Somehow, there was less pressure. He didn't have to think about pulling away to make sure they were safe. He could stay focused on her without any other worries. Why had he been so nervous? This felt, like she said, like the natural next step.
When he pulled back to line himself up, Sarah pressed her hand to his pelvis stopping the movement.
“What?” he asked, worried he'd hurt her.
“We need lube,” she said. “Or more foreplay. The condoms you have have lube on them, so they slide easier. Without that I'm worried…” she trailed off.
He hadn't even thought about it. “Which do you want?”
“I mean, I'm always game for more foreplay.”
Grinning, he leaned down to kiss her, rolling his hips against hers again. As their tongues tangled, she groaned into his mouth.
“Tell me when you're ready,” he whispered in her ear before tracing his lips over her jaw and down her neck. He licked and kissed, while one of his hands fondled her breasts, working her up to those hitched little breaths and small moans he loved so much.
“Quinn,” she breathed, a few moments later, as her temperature spiked. He hadn’t shaved in a while, and his beard rasped against her skin. She’d never liked facial hair before him, but somehow, with Quinn, it was more arousing than painful. Probably because of what else he was doing. God, he was good with his mouth.
Unbidden, but not unwelcome or unfamiliar, images crashed into her mind — Quinns head buried between her thighs, his magic tongue working her to a climax she knew would be mind melting. The fantasies made her desperate for him.
“I need you,” she gasped, feeling herself grow slick against the muscular ridge of his thigh he had wedged between her legs.
“I’m right here.”
“I need you inside me.”
Her admission made Quinn feel drunk with desire. Out of his mind with it. He pulled back and her hand covered his to help him line up.
Pressing into her was better than he’d imagined.
She was so hot and wet and, “shit, you’re so tight,” he ground out, the words scraping over a moan.
Now that the barrier was gone, the time spent waiting to remove it was well worth it. Her smooth walls hugged him perfectly.
Just to feel the contrast, he withdrew to the tip, pulling a sharp breath through his teeth at the rush of cool air before he drove back into her warmth. His jaw dropped and he made some unintelligible sound.
Slick and slippery, his thrusts moved with her seamlessly as she rose to meet him again and again and again.
“So good,” she breathed, reveling in the feel of him - every vein and ridge that had been smoothed by the latex covering before felt so prominent now and, “Quinn, you feel so good.”
The praise went straight to his head.
“You feel so —” he broke off with a growl. “Shit, you feel so amazing, Sarah. I — I —” He babbled, nearly blurting that he loved her. He bit that back. This wasn’t the time for that. He wanted that to be special, not something spluttered in a lust-drunk moment. “I don't know how long I can last,” he admitted instead.
God, he was something else. Flushed and flustered, eyes half hooded, body tight with exertion and control, he looked delicious. The fact that he wanted her this much made her chest feel full to bursting.
A moan escaped her mouth as pleasure washed over her face. Her eyelashes fluttered.
Just like that, he was done for. Cooked.
“I can't… I can't,” he stammered. At least he lasted longer than the embarrassing two strokes from their first time.
“Then don't,” she panted, rocking her hips into his. Her own climax building as the thought of him finally coming inside her brought her sensitivity to a peak.
Groaning her name, he let his body take over, rhythm turning sloppy.
As she watched, his eyes fluttered closed and with a final, powerful thrust, he sheathed himself to the hilt and let go.
Feeling the very tangible result of his pleasure coat her walls made Sarah’s breath hitch. It only took a few more rocks of her hips before her body bowed, chest pressing flush to his as she pulsed around him, pleasure poured into her body.
His mouth was open against her neck as he let out a sort of pained grunt.
Coming down, she melted into the soft mattress.
His body followed hers, his weight pressing into her. He knew it was probably too heavy, but he couldn’t possibly hold himself up right now.
Quinns gasping breaths were crashing into her neck. Even though it didn’t make it any easier to catch her breath, she loved the solid weight of him on top of her.
Strength slowly returned to him and they both winced a little as he eased out.
Flopping onto his back next to her, he groped for her hand. “Oh my god,” he breathed, once he had control of his voice. “That was incredible.”
“Yeah,” she sighed, pulling some breaths deep into her lungs.
After a few more moments of basking in the afterglow, she moved to get up. He tugged her back, “where are you going?”
“I need to pee. I'll be right back, I promise.”
He didn't shy away from watching her pad to the bathroom and then back to the bed.
Halfway through their second round, he was determined to feel Sarah come undone around him when he wasn’t so sensitive from his own orgasm. Working his fingers to her clit, he traced gentle patterns over the swollen nub.
A pleasured sigh left her lips. “Oh,” Sarah breathed, “that feels so good, Quinn.”
She had to take a moment to make her mind concentrate on one thing at a time. Anticipation coiled tighter in her belly as she focused on his gentle, deliberate touch, the heat of his body above and inside her, and then, the feel of his cock, which had been so dulled before, it almost felt completely new.
He dipped lower, gathering more of her arousal on his fingers to slip and slide over her bundle of nerves.
He didn’t try to hide or hold back from how good it felt when she fluttered around him. Her name panted from his mouth. Only when he felt himself sliding too close to the edge, did he bite his lip to distract himself.
Seeing Quinn hold on for her, trying to draw out her orgasm before his own, made tenderness swell within her. It mixed with the pleasure in her veins, bringing her closer to the peak. How the hell did June not see him this way?
She gasped his name before admitting, “I’m almost there.”
“What do you need?” he asked, wrenching his eyes open to look into her face.
“Keep going, don’t stop. Don’t stop.”
He shook his head. Never. He would never stop trying to please her like this and any other way he could.
The steady rhythm he restrained himself into did its job, and she tipped over the edge.
The coil in her belly finally shattering, her body seized up as pleasure fractured through her like lightning. His name flew from her mouth in a hoarse cry.
Jaw falling open, he grunted his pleasure as her core sucked him deeper with every rhythmic pulse. God, she felt even more incredible. Sarah was already the best he’d ever had, and now, the sex had just gotten better. How was that possible?
Gripping the sheets, he held on for her, moaning and muttering about how good she felt coming around him.
Sarah was mesmerized by him. His eyes were shut now, the skin around them taut, but his jaw was lax, nearly hanging open. His arms flexed, mountains and valleys of muscle on either side of her, straining with the effort of holding himself up.
Electricity was still buzzing faintly through her veins, even as her high ebbed away. She couldn’t wait any longer to fulfill his fantasy.
“Come on me, Quinn.”
Breath lodged in his throat and his eyes flew open, frantically searching her face. “You're sure?”
“Yes. I want you to. Come on me,” she repeated, running her fingers up her chest as an example.
In a rush of want, he planked above her, quickly tugging on his cock, slick with her arousal, until he exploded, painting a sticky white line up her chest.
She seemed to preen under the assault, arching her back and moaning as if it was something she’d been waiting her whole life for. It was one of the hottest things he'd ever seen.
“Fuuuck,” he groaned as his limbs turned to jelly.
He managed to lower himself on top of her without dropping, feeling his cum slick between their skin.
“Holy shit, that was so hot,” he panted against her mouth.
In a few minutes time, Sarah knew she'd be squirming for a shower, but for now, she felt extremely gratified with fulfilling this fantasy for him. She smiled, replaying the look of shocked elation on his face when she requested it.
Tracing her fingers up the bumps of his spine, she took in a deep breath and let it sigh out of her lungs, reveling in the weight of his body on hers.
Finally catching his breath, he lifted his head, arching an eyebrow. “Where did all of this come from?”
“All what?”
He traced a finger through the valley of her breasts, gathering some of his cum. “This,” he said, “you’re little exhibitionist streak when I came on you.”
“Oh,” she somehow blushed despite her flushed skin. “I wanted to be good for you. You’re so good to me all the time, I want you to feel that, too.”
That simple statement, her admittance that she did it for him, made his head spin. How could he have ever thought what he had with June was love? He saw now how a love that met you half way blew her idea of love, which he knew now was more about control, out of the water.
A few minutes later, Sarah’s sweaty, post-sex skin began to itch. “Shower?” she asked.
“Snacks,” Quinn countered, his head still resting on the front of her shoulder.
A laugh shook her chest, “shower then snacks.”
He supposed it could work.
A short while later, they were in the kitchen, and Quinn was having an argument with himself.
They needed to have a conversation, but it was terrible timing. He didn’t want her to think he was only bringing it up because of what happened that night. At the same time, he was about to leave for five days on the road, and the family skate wasn’t that much longer after that, and he was so tired of introducing her as the girl he was seeing. Sarah was more than that, now. It didn’t fit anymore and it was too damn long to keep saying.
If they didn’t talk about it now, he worried there wouldn’t be enough time.
He glanced at her. She was wearing a shirt with a funny little cartoon of a fork and a spoon that said, ‘Spooning leads to forking’ along with a pair of matching shorts. Her thighs were bare and lovely in the dim light as she sat on the counter, eating a piece of cheese she’d stolen from the sandwich he was building for them to split.
He put the top piece of bread on, and decided he should just blurt it out. He didn’t think there would be a better way. And the longer he waited, the harder it would be to bring up.
“What do you think about being my girlfriend?” he said, looking up.
Her hand paused on the way to her mouth, the cheese missing an almost cartoon-like bite  — a little scalloped half moon cut into one corner.
“Am —” Sarah paused, wondering if this was some kind of a trick question. “Am I not?”
“No,” he said before his brain caught up with him. “No, you are, but I mean, like, formally?”
Her head tilted to one side, “Of course. I’ve been thinking of you as my boyfriend for a few weeks now. Pretty much since you met Trav and the kids.”
A sigh breathed through him.
“Did you think I was gonna say no?”
“I don’t…I mean, I didn’t want you to think I was only bringing it up because of the unprotected sex thing.”
“That is pretty terrible timing on your part,” she conceded, laughing. “It’s a good thing I…” she trailed off, stopping herself from continuing out loud. Why couldn’t she just come out and say it? So what if she was in her ridiculous pajamas in his kitchen? She’d brought them with her expressly because she thought they would make him laugh, and she’d been right. The delighted surprise that had escaped his mouth when he’d seen them was something she knew she’d treasure for a long time.
“A good thing you?” he repeated, hope ballooning in his chest.
“It’s a good think I know you’re not just in it for the sex,” she said, lamely.
Quinn’s expression went from worried to distraught right before her eyes. “How could you think that?” he asked, his voice embarrassingly earnest.
“Quinn, I —”
He cut her off, “I like so many things about you, Sarah. You’re smart and funny and you’re kind to everyone you meet, and you’re so dedicated to your work.” He was rambling now, but if she thought he was in this just for the sex? He would die of shame.
“I like that you’ve never treated me like anything else but Quinn, and you’re always willing to meet me half way,” he said, his voice taking on an almost frantic quality as he tried to convey what she meant to him. “And I —”
“Quinn.”
The way she said his name made him stop short.
“I’m sorry,” she said, her hand coming up to gently cup his jaw. “I was teasing. I know you’re not just in it for the sex. Someone who only wanted sex wouldn’t have waited four weeks to have it.”
She had a valid point.
“I’d love to be your girlfriend, Quinn. Just as long as you can be my boyfriend.”
“Deal,” he said, leaning in to kiss her, feeling as if someone had struck a match, setting his heart ablaze.
Settling into bed, Quinn remembered he hadn’t told her yet.
“Hey, my family’s coming in for the finals. They’ll be here on the 20th.”
“Oh,” she said, obvious disappointment on her face.
“Is that not…okay?”
Feeling her cheeks blaze, Sarah realized she hadn’t shared that expectation with him yet. “It’s just…my last final is that day and I’ve kind of been looking forward to you fucking me silly as a reward for finishing.”
His eyes went huge, “oh.”
“It's one of the ideas that's kept me going, honestly.”
“I could still do that,” he said, the words rushing out of his mouth.
“With your family in the house? I don't think so.”
“At yours then.”
“With my roommates there?”
He bit his lip. “We could get a hotel?”
“Because that's not weird when you have people, let alone family, staying at your house.”
“I’ll tell them to come a day later,” he offered.
“Would they buy that without an explanation?”
“Would I have to give them one?”
“I don't know. Would you? My family would want to know. You’ll have to make something up.”
“You don’t want me to tell them they can’t come on the 20th because my girlfriend finally finished her classes and wants to be fucked all night?” he teased.
Giggling, she smacked his shoulder lightly, “I think I might die if your mom knew that about me,” she admitted, part of her mind still caught on the open way he used the girlfriend title.
He laughed.“I’ll just tell them we have a late team meeting, or something so it would be better for them to come in on 21st. It’ll be fine.”
