Shout out to all the autistic peeps who weren't diagnosed as kids even though they were very stereotypically autistic because they were afab and their families didn't know anything about autism so they just thought they were weird and lazy, but other kids could tell that they weren't like them so they got bullied into learning how to mask constantly (which put the diagnosis off for even longer) and then they kept on getting burnt out from masking all the time and they had to go to noiser more overwhelming environments as they got older until eventually it became very obvious that they were autistic again and they finally got a diagnosis (which is a whole other story on its own).

You know the drill 👉 A Dream of Dragons by @arialerendeair
I'm too tired to explain myself 😂. Briefly put, the Mark is a fusion between Death's and Dream's sigils (I tried more komplex ideas but eventually circle back to the simplest one). And I think it fits that Hob would gain a mark based on the Ankh symbol after gaining immortality 😆.

I know it's for the best that a cast of nine can talk among themselves but wouldn't it be both hilarious and a bit creepy if the chain was almost completely silent. Little to no interest in verbal communication.
Like, imagine you're causing some trouble. Stealing an heirloom or something. And suddenly you're getting chased across town, across rooftops by this deathly silent gang of blond teenagers with way too many weapons to feel comfortable with.
You're walking along a road upset and this big group of people laser in on your problem without saying a word, scattering as soon as you explain the problem and returning only a few minutes later with the necklace you thought you'd lost forever. No one in the party says a word.

Inktober Day 5: Map
Tumblr media
My favourite part of Disney’s 2002 animated feature Treasure Planet is its main song, aptly titled “Jim’s Theme”. It is, however, one of my sister’s favourite Disney movies (although according to people who have a living memory of the early 2000s, I too used to watch this movie on repeat). When I thought about writing this prompt, I felt incredibly stuck. I remember very little of the plot of Treasure Planet, and I had no ideas for crafting a narrative on Jim’s holographic puzzle map. So to get in the mindspace, I put “Jim’s Theme” on repeat. At time of writing I am on my sixth listen to the song, and after hearing the lyrics repeated 6 times, I started thinking about how to conceptualize a map. In Treasure Island, the map is Jim’s call to action, it is what gets him going on the adventure of the film. It is, more than anything, a plot device. But that’s boring, so I thought, what else could it be? What’s a better argument? What if the map is a metaphor for Jim’s character. Someone that neither his mother nor Dr. Delbert Doppler could unlock or understand. “Jim’s Theme” encapsulates this mentality through its opening lyrics “I am a question to the world / Not an answer to be heard” and later, “you don't know me.”  In this essay I will…
Maybe this is something that every film critic since the movie came out has spoken about, but I thought it was a really interesting comparison. If the physical map is Jim, how does that affect his reading of his journey? Is there a reading of his character as overcoming objectification (in the sense that he is seen as a helpful tool to accomplish work (much like B.E.N.))? Could one argue that he is meant only to be understood by the youth, similar to his ability to figure out the map that had puzzled Dr. Doppler.
Ps. It took me approximately 11 loops of this song to finish this little blurb.
All art by @cool_beans_jw on insta. Writing by her weird sister, who is in midterms, and begs your indulgence as she hasn’t slept in like 3 days.

So far i have watched httyd in 6 languages (3 that i can speak fluently and understand w/o subtitles)
And its always funny how the change the names
Funny cuz so far Astrid always stays Astrid.
Turkish is one of the few that decided to change Stoick’s name
While French is just being French and even they kept Stoick!
But nope toothless is asking too much ig
So here are some of my personal favorites
Balıkayak (Fishlegs) it is turkish for fishFEET budget fishlegs
Snotlout is okay he gets the name Südüklü südük means snot -lü as suffix is someone or something with the main word so he is snotty but just changing the pronunciation a tinny tiny bit it becomes Sidikli which is pissy and i love that for him anyways because Südük is not as commonly used bc usually we use sümük for snot as a kid my mind constantly went to sidik which is urine and is used much more in the form sidikli (for kids who wet themselves after a certain age its a shitty nickname so its used much more)
Tersceviz and Sertceviz (Ruff and Tuff respectively) ceviz is basically nut more specifically walnut Tuff has the luxury to keep some meaning cuz Sert means Tough/durable while Ters means upsidedown. Cudos to the translaters tho cuz sert and ters basically are just 4 letters rearranged twice so it rimes nicely
Now my favorite
Zebella even I had to check the spelling cuz omg its ridiculous but it makes sense. Yeah so Zebella is Stoick :) Zebella is a word play on Zebellah which means someone with grand stature to a point its intimidating. I watched this movie when i was 6 i understood this at age 12 lmaoo i saw it in a book and was like wtf isnt that hiccups dad so i continue and its guven in context and i go damn my life was a lie i thought it was a name!
To ease the curiosity i may have build up
Hiccup is Hıçkıdık which is a slightly altered version (i think for easier pronunciation for kids in the books and the movies) hıçkırık meaning hiccup
Toothless stays Toothless in turkish no fun there Dişsiz diş is tooth and suffix -siz is like none/lacking of the main word so yeah basically can be -less but not exactly the same.
Now French being well french kills the fun like omgg
Harold HAROLD ! Vraiment un nome effrayant ill give him that the line about scaring trolls and gnomes is still there so yeah apparently Harold is a hideous name
Stoick is lucky he gets to be Stoïk so that o is pronounced separately from the i so yeah sounds same written different (still not even close to being Snapes name being changed completely in hp books for pronunciations sake so ill give them that)(also side note Gibber in french is amazing not the name its not too bad the meaning is the somewhat same i mean his voice acting i just love it)
Time for true offenders the dragonriders
Fishlegs > Varek
Snotlout> Rustik
Tuff> Kranedur
Ruff> Kognedur
Actually writing it down the word play on twins is kinda nice so lemme explain
I think Varek is a play on Varech which is basically algues/seaweed by the shore.
Rustik is a play on rustique rustic in french as you may have guessed. As well as being a real pretty architectural style it also a synonym for simple resistant and strong in french so i think it adds up for
Krandur is a play on crâne and dur basically thick skull
Krognedur was harder for me to actually understand and im sill not that sure but a little research on the french forums for the fandom i had a victory it comes from the verb cogner and dur, kick some ass ungently, my queens name is kicking someones ass real hard i love that for her
Toothless was also a cuite nice discovery for me honestly Krokmou kinda sounded stupid on my first watch (also my french wasnt that good back then) but it makes so much sens its a play on words croc (meaning fang or tooth usually fang tho) and mou (meaning soft)
His name is soft fangs thats so precious im sorry but i mean sans-dents would be fun to bc sans and dents is pronounced almost the same idk how to explain it just put it in translate or pronounce and it would mean without teeth but at least his name is not édenté which gives much less toothless and more like rendered toothless bc of the é at the end. Like toothlessed does that make sense?
Anyways sorry for the rant its one am i need to sleep

the conversation between martin and basira in mag 88 is goddamn hilarious to me like martin’s trying to be nice, he’s under a lot of stress with jon on the run, but then this exchange happened:
BASIRA: I actually thought I misjudged him. Hell, I liked the guy.
MARTIN: Wait, you mean… like you…
BASIRA: [sputtering] Oh, what? Urgh, no! Why does everyone think that?
MARTIN: Right, yeah, ‘cause I don’t actually… I don’t actually think he…
BASIRA: I just, I mean he was good company. Y’know, when he wasn’t being a paranoia machine. He was funny, you know?
MARTIN: What, Jon?
BASIRA: Yeah.
MARTIN: I don’t think I’ve ever heard him tell a joke.
BASIRA: Maybe you weren’t listening.
and from there martin gave up on civility, went full bitchy jealous mode with her the change is so funny and so immediate i really can’t with martin kartin blackwood

Okay so just to preface, this is probably something already said somewhere on here but I need to type it out. I was just listening to The moon will sing by the crane wives and LET ME TELL YOUUU
I'm imagining Lucy gray who loved Coriolanus snow, trusted him and how in her mind he was so important he was in this context THE SUNNN and he captured her and took away her chance of furthering her life any memory that lives on of Lucy gray lives on through him SHE SHINES ONLY WITH THE LIGHT HE'LL GIVE HER. But then we get onto the next part and I'm imagining within the same realm but at the end when it's saying that line it's KATNISS who shines that light "I want to feel that fire that you kept from me"??? Katniss is Lucy grays revenge and her savior in a way. While katniss doesn't know her name or her story, meaning not much light is shed the moon still shines twice as bright that night. Katniss sings her song and builds the fire that the snow put out so many years ago.

So I was reading a fanfic and it was tagged Unhealthy Relationships and I don't usually read it because I invariably always get annoyed by self destructive behaviors in relationships and reading it is just not for me but the premise was pretty great and I gave in and lo and behold, I was annoyed by it.
But then, I realised that one of my favorite shows is based on a twink and a himbo co-dependently dying for each other and doing morally questionable things for each other and almost having self-destructive behavior to save the other (I'm looking at you, twink)
Which then led me to the realization that it's not unhealthy because they obviously brought out the best in each other and made the other a better person. But some things are definitely in the grey area and it's just spread over 65 episodes that I didn't realise it as much.

Love the duality of Frieza and Frost takes
We can either go "Frieza would be mad if anyone hurts Frost", whether due to actual care or "only he can beat up this whelp".
Or we could go the bitter end and say that Frieza would absolutely be laughing as Frost gets beaten up in the Costco parking lot.

Ya know, I was just thinking about this a little while ago;
About how I'm convinced there's a whole ass Zelda multiverse.
Like. Hyrule has been founded how many times?? Too many for me to remember
Plus there's been,,, MULTIPLE Ganondorf(s), sure maybe not a lot but still
NOT ONLY THAT BIT SEEMS LIKE THERE'S 2 IMPRISONING WARS??? LIKE?? UNLESS THEY'RE THE SAME—
All of this has to kinda do with a theory video I'd seen a little while ago.
Plus it'd make more sense! Like cuz I feel it(TOTK) completely contradicts the timeline at some points in the story. Specifically w/ the founding of Hyrule and the sudden appearance of the zonai and disappearance of the Sheikah tech
And I know I know. Nintendo has/ chooses to ignore the timeline (although fair enough because that shit confusing asf)

Probably because this has been a garbage week, I somehow triggered a lot of Emotions about diet culture as I ate my daily salad today.
I'm a naturally thin person, and I've never suffered explicit fatphobia or dieting bs, and the non-explicit stuff has mostly washed over me. But I've been tangentially exposed b/c of bullshit feedback I've gotten about my diet b/c of my sensory issues, and because I've seen what people around me have gone through.
See, my daily salads - they're super healthy. They're mostly raw spinach, with a handful of raw green beans, feta, artichoke hearts, and olives thrown on top, drizzled with a few tablespoons of the oil the artichokes were marinating in and the vinegar from the olives.
But I'm not eating them everyday right now because they are healthy - it's because they are fucking *delicious.* They are one of the highlights of my day, and I go fucking feral for them every time. I have to restrain myself from shoving my face right into the bowl.
And I know what diet culture would say about my salads. Oh, they are healthy, diet culture whispers in people's ears, but they would be *even healthier* if you used a little less feta (cut those calories down!), didn't add the vinegar (so much salt!), used artichokes that had been packaged in water instead of oil (oil = fat = bad!).
And from the people I've known who have gone through fatphobia and/or diet culture bs, they often wouldn't even be able to enjoy it. That either they would be thinking about how it could be healthier, or about how it *was* healthy and what that meant for their diet. They wouldn't be able to just enjoy it (or if they did, they would feel guilty after).
And I started thinking about them while eating my daily salad today, and it made me so sad. Because how bullshit it is that they wouldn't be enjoy a delicious salad because of weird fatphobic culture stuff. Because I think it is a fundamental human right to be able to go feral over eating delicious food, no matter what that food is. It makes me so sad that my friends and members of my family (or anyone really) have been prevented from feeling the joy I feel eating my salads.
...Anyway, if you are reading this, I hope you get to eat something today that fills you with exuberant joy.

made some lore lmao
this was all copied from the discord channel I typed it in, each line break being a separate message
so since I was eventually planning on carving a protogen mask out of wood I wanted there to be some lore behind it
and I have come up with some
the world this takes place in has a mix of magic, advanced technology, and advanced *bio*technology as well
like, woodskin or stoneskin or even ironskin armor spells are common
people even making devices that automatically cast them when you, say, bump into something
and protogens use nanites, as you probably know, for the visors (that's where the advanced technology comes in)
they use regular technology for weaponry, for example spears that have infinitely-sharp points used for hunting. they respect nature, so the only large-scale farming they do is with plants. since all the wildlife is fast-reproducing hunting is a viable source of meat
biotechnology is used for other purposes. for example, growing genetically engineered fast-growing trees around scaffolds to make buildings, or using vines to make extra strong ropes, and even using plants to transfer electrical signals for communications systems. all enhanced by regular technology, of course. Can't use plants to genetically engineer plants
can't forget about the magic, either. the main purpose they use it for is for vehicles. it's also how they manipulate plants and metals into the shapes they want, and how they make the infinitely-sharp spears and such that I mentioned earlier. pretty much anything magic can do is based on manipulating things. you manipulate the air to propel aircrafts, you manipulate the water to propel boats, you manipulate your own body for the woodskin/stoneskin/ironskin armor spells. the more powerful mages are able to do things such as teleport, and some of the most powerful mages ever known could even open portals, by *manipulating* the third dimension itself. all magic stems from the ability to manipulate things. teleporting just manipulates the positions of an object in space, swapping the place of the object with the air at the destination.
I realized I just did a bunch of worldbuilding in the character lore thread lmao
anyways, onto the actual character lore
I don't have a name for him yet, but he's a protogen that got permanently turned into wood, when something went wrong while casting the woodskin armor spell
but to add onto this, there have been multiple attempts to reverse the effects, but none have worked. if anything, they have strengthened the magic that did this, *giving* him the abilities I mentioned previously
since he is now basically a plant enhanced by the nanites of a protogen, he has the ability to "communicate" with nature. he already had a better understanding of it than most, which allows him to *utilize* these abilities
these abilities allow him to basically be one with the forest. since he was a biologist, he knows how fungi communicate with trees, and many things about nature that others do not. this allows him to basically tap into the network that fungi use to connect trees, and since he is sentient, there is a lot more he can get out of this than a tree ever could. he can use it to tell if there is danger, he can use it to find food, though he cannot use it to find a specific individual, more like a general feeling of "there's something here" and he uses information, mainly how that thing moves, to determine whether it's dangerous, food, or another person
he lives in a smaller settlement, on the outskirts of civilization, far from any major cities, only accessible by boat or aircraft, and even then taking a boat would take days and aircrafts are rarely used for anything other than emergencies
this is why not much could be done about his condition
but, he uses it to benefit the village. it gives his magic more power over plants, though weaker on metal. he is often paid well for construction jobs
and since money is not used in this world, people pay in favors and food
so he often eats well
he also uses his abilities on hunts, to track targets. he can judge their size at a distance, and how they move. he also uses this to avoid danger such as predators, the most dangerous thing in this region of the world is probably bears. he can also sort of scare them off with his abilities, by making lots of noise while blending in with the environment (based on a true story. there was a bear on the beach, that got scared away by my grandparents' chihuahua because the bear couldn't see him, but could definitely hear him)
he is well known throughout his village, and you will occasionally also hear things about him in more densely-populated areas. since he is made of wood, and is basically a living tree, he can also photosynthesize if necessary - though he prefers not to. he is also quite useful for underwater work, as long as it is freshwater, and not saltwater, and he is not down there for *too* long.
and that's where that part ends and I had to go to sleep cuz it was like. 3:16am by the time I finished it (I started at 2:20)
this happened some time between then and when I woke up
Tumblr media
but yeah most of the stuff in the post is stuff my brain made up in about an hour while I was tired as fuck so it might not make that much sense
forgot I also have a Google doc of lore for a different character/setting

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that some of the most powerful, thoughtful, interesting, memorable stories written about dragons are by people of marginalized gender, ABOUT gender, confinement, that flaming, roiling, transforming, magnificent, sharp creature inside you’re told to apologize until you meet other dragons
And then you get straight men who overwhelmingly tend to write fantasy fiction about dragons the same way they often write about people of marginalized genders: monsters that are at best remarkable and alien at a distance, or beasts to be exploited, destroyed or entered into a lopsided partnership to lift them up.

Actually, Tumblr. With the fact half these ads are for One Piece on Netflix, you’ve forced me have to have to scroll past One Piece so I can simply see what you’re recommending me, and you’ve made it MORE ONE PIECE
I now have absolutely no desire to watch it ever. Thanks. Bye.

Kicked ass in college today. Proud of that! Also realized I may have dodged a bullet by not getting into one game, as the debates and arguments are PIPING hot from what little I’ve seen.
Very eepy as sleep has not been nice to me lately. I shall dream of food, as there are plans in motion. Plans involving…Chinese takeout 🥡 🤤 our usual place is still closed for repairs, but we found another spot that is REALLY good.
Dumplings, shrimp fried rice, sweet and sour chicken…I’m gonna eat my pillow tonight I swear.
