GIANT GUY: "So my idea is that we dress you up like a sugar plum fairy and then--oh, sorry, I need to speak softly so I don't deafen you, right?"
TINY GIRL: "Yes, please!"
GIANT GUY: "Feathers. Pillows. Fluffy bunny fur. Clouds. Bouncy Jell-O. Hippies."
TINY GIRL "----you're hilarious."

When Giants Rule
So the story of this well...story is a long one. I wrote the original when I was around 12 on Wattpad. It was rather popular but it wasn't what I wanted and I always intended to rewrite it. This version isn't recognizable when compared to the original but I want to see how you guys like it. It's a completely original story and a part of me wants to try to turn it into a novel....so um...let me know what you think💕

Shanna sits against the clear glass of a window to the wider world, feeling and hearing the beating of a powerful waterfall against it. Today, just like most days, she sits with her sketchpad in her hands, making drawings of what she believes the world beyond her underground home may look like. Her observations may be based on what little of the world she can actually see beyond the water fall, but she's fairly accurate considering. At least that's what her dad tells her. As a librarian and a keeper of knowledge he does his best to teach her about the world before humans were forced underground. He'd seen it for himself long ago, being only a teenager when the giants arrived. At first they were peaceful, gentle even. They worked with the humans they met and acted like it was peace they wanted. The change was so sudden, so unexpected that the humans never saw it coming. The giants descended upon their human associates, crushing them, using them as play things, and even eating them for the fun of it. Humans even became a sort of delicacy for them. The thought of it made Shanna's skin crawl.
More and more humans were captured and made into slaves, eaten as a treasured meal, and obliterated on orders from the giant's homeland. Eventually their numbers dwindled and humans tried everything to survive. Around 30 years ago the humans in cities near the tunnels they live in now discovered their new safe haven by chance. After moving in, people rarely left other than to go for supply runs. Much of the younger generation that Shanna is a part of had never even been outside the tunnels, never seen anything but the small bits of the above world they can see through little windows scattered throughout the tunnel system.
Most people didn't exactly pay these systems any mind and went on about their lives as if the above world never existed. Shanna however, couldn't stop thinking about it. Of course she knows the dangers of going out and the danger she puts herself in by constantly being near the window but she just can't help it. Something about going outside draws her in and makes her desperately want to escape. She'd been going to this little window for years now, almost every day. Anything to forget she's completely trapped underground. Unfortunately for her she wasn't the only one admiring the waterfall.
Lost in her own world the young woman doesn't feel the familiar sensation of eyes on her. The eyes of one of the giants her clan had lost so much to get away from. The giant in question had been coming to this waterfall to admire its beauty for years now. He'd always found Earth beautiful unlike his bloodthirsty companions. Being born on this planet and not having the same connections to the homeland as the older generation that originally attacked this planet, meant he could truly see the beauty here for what it was. Unfortunately for him he's constantly criticized for wanting anything to do with a planet full of little bugs like humans. So many of his kind saw them as nothing more than playthings, even food. He on the other hand had always been interested in them. Unfortunately the ones he'd met that were captured were often killed before he could gain their trust and actually talk to them. Still the want is there.
After thousands of times of being in this spot, exploring the waterfall and enjoying the views, you'd think he would have noticed the little human leaning against the wall. Or that she would have at least noticed him but no, not until he moved closer to the window. Curiosity gets the better of the large being and he moves into the cool water. What for humans would swallow them whole only goes up to his calves. Glowing blue eyes land on the human in question, awe filling the expression of the dog like being. His dark brown and tan fur glows in the low light of the tube. Shanna doesn't notice the being looking her over until she feels the change in the rhythm of the waterfall against the steel tube. Curious, the red head stands, green eyes finding the window and the huge being watching her. Screaming, she immediately pushes herself against the steel wall of the tube opposite the window, pinned under the curious gaze of the giant being before her. Her heart races, preparing for the tube to be crushed or ripped or something so he can get to her, but that doesn't happen. The giant being in question simply stares at her, glowing blue eyes examining her entire body with interest. He makes no moves to touch anything, as much in awe of her as she is of him.
If she didn't know any better she might have mistook him for a German shepherd, wolf like ears perking straight up with interest, dark brown and tan colors covering his fur. The eyes and odd blue colors on the fringes of his cheek fur to match them however, give away what he truly is. For a while the two sit there, taking in the view of each other, the giants tail wagging as they do. Unfortunately for the giant he hears the voice of another of his kind not far away.
"Malachi!"
Thinking fast he immediately moves away from the tube, letting the water fall over it once again before going back to the water's edge. Another giant approaches him, canine-esque like him but all dark brown with odd tiger stripes all over his body. His yellow eyes search his companion for a reaction as Malachi pulls himself together.
"Sorry! I was just trying to have some alone time." The blue eyed giant states, avoiding the others gaze. The other rolls his odd yellow eyes before responding.
"Well next time tell the commander. I just spent 2 hours looking for your dumb ass. Now come on! The commander wants to talk to you." The other states, growling in annoyance before starting to walk off. The blue eyed giant, Malachi, takes one last glances towards the tube before following his rather irritated companion and moving out of the cowering human's view.
Shanna can't believe her eyes. She'd never seen a giant before and had now seen two in one day, and what's worse…. he'd seen her too. She can't help the panic that overtakes her. What if he tells the others where they are? What if the tunnels come under attack all because she got too comfortable? As her brain races she realizes something. If he saw her, which she's certain he did, why didn't he simply tell his friend? Why move like he had and pretend nothing was there? She bites her lip, trying to think clearly and breathe. Should she tell the others what she saw just in case? They'd never let her come back to this spot after that and if she's honest with herself it's the only thing keeping her sane now. Sighing, she decides to stay quiet and hope that the odd giant will do the same.
Unfortunately for her, thoughts about him would keep her up all night. She had never in her life felt so vulnerable and now he knew where her home was. Nightmares about what could happen if he decided to come after them plague her through the night.
—-
The giant's thoughts were….a little bit different. He couldn't stop seeing her, backed against the wall and trembling under his gaze. He couldn't blame her for it. After all he's seen first hand what his species does to hers and knows what was probably going through her head. Turning over on his side, his glowing, sky blue eyes stare at the stone walls lining his bedchamber. An image of her pops up in his mind as he stares, causing his tail to wag again. Grumbling, he puts a hand down on it to make it stop its infernal movement. He didn't want anyone to ask questions and his tail wagging for nothing would attract attention. He wanted nothing more than to see her again but knew she wouldn't come back there after seeing him……right?
Thankfully for him, she did come back. Her forest green eyes search the window cautiously for any sign of him. After a night of nothing but an image of him in her head how could she not? Though that doesn't necessarily mean she has to show herself if he's there. After finishing up a few of her chores so she wouldn't be missed, the red head now stood a few feet away from the window, using a curve in the pipe as a hiding spot. She hated to admit it but she can't help being curious about the gargantuan being. He hadn't done anything to try and catch her and from the stories she'd read they were plenty strong enough to break steel. So her curiosity brought her back here, heart racing at the idea of being caught under that odd blue gaze of his again.
Then she hears it, the same change in the movement of the waterfall as before, signaling him stopping it from flowing over the smooth surface of the tube. Then she sees him, his odd mix of color standing out against the steel of the tunnel around her. She sees his eyes move, scanning the tube for any sign of her small form, even sniffing the air to see if he can smell her inside the metal casing. Heart racing, she hides against the curve of the tunnel, not ready to face him again. Even the thought of being seen again makes her nauseous……but she can't help being at least a little curious.
The giant stands there for a moment, searching for the small being he so desperately wants to meet again. When he sees the tunnel is vacant he can't help the heavy weight of disappointment he feels, facial expression giving away all his thoughts. The small woman can't believe her eyes. Is he…..is he disappointed that she's not there? Did he actually want to see her again? But…..but why would he want to? Why not just tell his superiors where they are and stage an attack? Her heart skips a beat as the familiar sound of the waterfall hitting steel returns.
