I really liked your interpretation of them + a few other authors, but what attracts me the most of it is the mystery in the relationship and since fandom has decided to hold a very (almost insultingly in my opinion) idealistic view of R0ßß it has lost some of it's appeal for me. Weirdly enough I still love them a lot, because they embody some aspects of Germanicus & Agrippina, a couple that I really love. And I overall really like Jeyne and how courageous she is. So yeah, my problem comes mostly from the R0ßß's characterisation always being that of a selfless saint who sacrifices himself for her honour (or worse, gets roofied).

hellish polycule. I hate it. I genuinely hate Ramsay so much. People keep making Theon the whump protagonist in fanwork by having him suffer, but I want Ramsay to be my whump protagonist. I can't stand that motherfucker. I hope he has the least climactic death in the story because he is simply not worth it. I don't want neither Theon nor Jeyne to ever come near him again because him dying while thinking that they are gone and safe is my favourite fantasy. It would be a huge slight for him.

On the other hand, this is kind of canon and I enjoy all the canon. I love the canon ships for what they are which, in this case, is plain horror. I want to gorge my eyes out whenever I think of it. They make me want to scream. The dynamic in fanwork is less interesting to me because most of the time it just ends up being gratuitous smut or Theon being in love with Jeyne during their captivity which is a huge no for me. (No hate to anyone who enjoys either of those things, they are just boundaries) but if written as in canon (that is implicitly and as horror), then yeah, I'd read a fic.

But viewed through a less serious lens Ramsay CANONICALLY and simultaneously acts as the matchmaker, the third wheel, and the sicko lurking on the window I can't-

I know for many people this is a mostly comedic ship not to be taken too seriously or the one they use to write $tav0s without having to fully disregard the women, but... Repressed sapphic who is head over heels for a religious extremist who wouldn't hesitate at burning her alive if her god demanded it...oh how relatable. + there is the entire topic of faith

I really love the themes of reborn faith at the sight of someone who is a living miracle. I know it's not a healthy thing in real life, but I love exploring the idea of someone finding a purpose and a cause in the world because of one (1) single person who reignites long-forsaken hope in another. Especially if that person dies later on. + a bit of borderline necrophilia meets Robin Hood. @/mylestoye described them once as:

I know it's completely insignificant and GRRM didn't think anything while writing it, but I loved that division. Two sentences. Not one. He had to add it as an afterthought. I remember there was someone on AO3 who wrote exclusively for them in English and Spanish and I used to compare the translations trying to analyse the text. Need to revisit those. They just give me warm happy feelings

from the Theonsa professor/TA au: Theon tries (and fails) not to be biased against the new professor joining their department and realises, that actually, they’ve met (in the carnal sense) before.

And then, Rodrik got sick, knocking their department head out of commission for at least the semester, if not the entire term, leaving the perpetually understaffed Ironborn history department scrambling to find someone to fill in on a couple of classes on such short notice. The person they found is technically qualified, but she was poached from the Northern history department—those pricks—and the ink on her diploma hasn’t even dried yet. How someone who studied the North could possibly be anything but biased against the Iron Islands, well.

Luckily, Theon is in the best possible position to watch her, because at least someone was sane enough to assign someone from within the department as her TA. It’s not quite nepotism – except it quite literally is – that he got the job. It’s also because nobody else applied for it, making him the most qualified by default.

So when she sweeps into their glorified corridor of a common room in a cloud of sunshine and with an air of superiority—real or imagined—around her, she’s already got all eyes on her and the possibility of someone already plotting her murder. It’s clear from the very first moment that she doesn’t (and won’t) fit in.

Robb survives the RW and is taken prisoner, Sansa is elected KitN instead of Jon, Robb marches North with the smallest of forces after Arya frees him; also Dany arrives at some point and is outmaneuvred from the very start. no, this doesn’t have a snappy title. also, Robb and Sansa end up sharing their Theon.

Sansa and Robb both had taken great pains in dressing for the occasion -- or rather, Sansa had done so on Robb’s behalf. He just as likely would have greeted the dragon queen in mud-stained riding leathers, but that was not the impression Sansa intended to give her. She had entered Robb’s chambers before sunrise, sending Theon scrambling to cover himself until he realised it was her stalking towards Robb’s wardrobe, flinging it open to go through its contents without so much as a by-your-leave. Robb had accepted the clothes she had chosen with bleary, sleep-crusted eyes, dressing without complaint, thick wool shirt, doublet eschewing a gambeson, leather jerkin overtop. It was Theon, of course, who had noticed that they matched and almost undid all of Sansa’s work by eagerly trying to talk them both into bed with him.

Theon’s chambers had never been the warmest, he only had a little hearth and he was bad at getting up in the middle of the night to feed his fire. When Theon managed to burrow out of his nest of blankets and furs to blink at his hearth, there weren’t even embers left. Sighing, he bundled himself into his thickest blanket, took a deep breath to steel himself against his bare feet hitting the cold floors and crept out of his bedchamber toward Robb’s. Robb the little lord had a nice, big hearth, and of course the perfect little lord also was perfect at banking his fire to last. He was also only too happy to share his bed. When Theon entered the bedchamber, there was only a big lump under the blanket and a tuft of red hair peeking out of visible. The blanket lifted at his approach, he was greeted with a mumbled jumble of words and soon he was enveloped in a nice, warm cave, and two slender arms wrapped around him.

for possible thramsay + Jeyne??? Threyne? Is that the dynamic name???? I don't know if this qualifies as thramsay or anti-thramsay. I struggle with those tags. It's not a shippy post AT ALL, but it talks about the canon dynamic between Theon & Ramsay + Jeyne and the one horrible scene, you know which one.

Nonsense. Not something I actually believe just a string of thoughts.

Random string of thoughts triggered by random stuf:

A while ago I wrote a half-joke post where I said that there is something liberating about the reek persona because no one really expects anything from him anymore, and I stand by that, but have some qualms about it too, because there might not be expectations, but there are requirements.

And I think that, unlike in his attempts to prove himself as Ironborn or to rule the North like a Stark would have, this time someone believes in him! Someone believes he might achieve the full potential of his new intents and could be qualified for a position in Winterfell, and that person is *drumroll please* fucking Ramsay Bolton!

Ramsay doesn't just want a submissive servant that will do things out of fear, he already has those. What he wants is Reek! And the more I think about it Reek isn't a blank canvas. Reek isn't just an even more traumatised version of Theon with even less agency. He is not a monster out of Ramsay's own creation. He is a replacement.

Reek, the original, not the off-brand version, was not just a quasi-slave. He was a companion who shared Ramsay's bloodlust and taste for violence. Reek was an eager necrophiliac who liked hunting women. Roose doesn't even know if Ramsay is the way he is simply because he is Ramsay, or if this has something to do with Reek, who acted as this strange type of caretaker figure (maybe fraternal, maybe paternal, maybe something even more fucked up).

So, in his weird way, I think, Ramsay isn't just getting off on Theon's humiliation. He clearly enjoys it, but it's not what he is searching for, because he knows the shame and the humiliation are Theon's, not Reek's. He wants Reek's enjoyment and willing participation. And it's fun how every time that Theon follows through Ramsay's orders and commits atrocities he gets some sort of promotion because he is acting more according to the figure he is meant to be. After Moat Cailin, he gets a chicken and is allowed to move to the Kennels, where he can befriend the dogs who used to accompany Ramsay and Reek (1) on hunts, like a preparation for what is to come. Later he makes Theon participant in Jeyne's rape and, while I am a believer in canon compliant very non-consensual thramsay and I see this as a rape of Theon too, this type of violation is one where he can't just lie back and "take it" or disassociate. He is not meant to be the victim closing his eyes and hoping it ends fast. He is meant to be a participant who might even enjoy it, while still truanting and mocking whatever little remains of Theon before discarding him.

"What do you think of her, Reek?" asked Lord Ramsay. "She …" What answer does he want? What was it the girl had said, before the godswood? They all said that I was pretty. She was not pretty now. He could see a spiderweb of faint thin lines across her back where someone had whipped her. "… she is beautiful, so … so beautiful." Ramsay smiled his wet smile. "Does she make your cock hard, Reek? Is it straining against your laces? Would you like to fuck her first?" He laughed. "The Prince of Winterfell should have that right, as all lords did in days of old. The first night. But you're no lord, are you? Only Reek. Not even a man, truth be told." - The Prince of Winterfell, ADWD

The man laughed. "The wretch is dead." He stepped closer. "The girl's fault. If she had not run so far, his horse would not have lamed, and we might have been able to flee. I gave him mine when I saw the riders from the ridge. I was done with her by then, and he liked to take his turn while they were still warm. - Theon VI, ACOK

We have no real idea of how that night went except for Theon’s confirmation of him performing oral sex on Jeyne, another preparation for what, I think Ramsay would wish in the future. Reek (1-3) fucking a dead girl (Arya - assumed dead, Jeyne - socially dead as her identity was taken from her).

I don't think Ramsay just wants a submissive Theon who is terrified of him. I think he wants one who cooperated and maybe even enjoys Ramsay's debauchery and evilness. He don'ts just want to humiliate Theon, he wants to eradicate him. He wants Theon to no longer exist so Reek can take his place. And I find this so entertaining to witness because even then, Theon is constantly failing but in his own way Ramsay is a patient teacher. He doesn't negate Theon, he just makes arrangements (mutilating him) as to make him more fitting to this new version of his childhood companion.

So many fanfics involving those two often have Theon refer to Ramsay as "master", (and I don't want anyone to feel like I'm trying to shame them, do whatever you want, it's fanwork!) but it always throws me off whenever I read that, because in canon, Ramsay is so weirdly obsessed with trying to make Theon/Reek (3) his friend.

Ramsay seems to really want to have a genuine friendship for once and it's so fucked up and it sounds ridiculous because no one should treat friends like that, obviously, but I think in his own compeletely deranged way, he does wish for someone who is more or less similar to him and values him. Think about the bastard's boys; they are not his friends. They are informants to his father and while we know they are brutal, they don't seem to enjoy the same levels of sadism as he does (still pretty horrible though). Ben Bones, who is made to go hunting with him whenever he goes searching for a new woman to rape and kill is implied to be a rather reluctant participator who likes the dogs better than Ramsay.

Reek (1) on the other hand was a gift for him alone who taught him, cared for him and accompanied him, and I keep seeing this in the few occasions where Ramsay refers to Theon/Reek (3) as his friend.

At the sight of Reek, he smiled a wet-lipped smile. "There he is. My sour old friend." To the men beside him he said, "Reek has been with me since I was a boy. My lord father gave him to me as a token of his love." - Reek I, ADWD

When the last of them were gone, Ramsay Bolton turned his smile on Reek. He clasped him by the back of the head, pulled his face close, kissed him on his cheek, and whispered, "My old friend Reek. Did they really take you for their prince? What bloody fools, these ironmen. The gods are laughing." - Reek II, ADWD
