so bit of context: i've never gotten *too crazy infatuated* with ship content before- it's cool! it's fun! but i've never gotten mind-numbingly invested

so i started scrolling tumblr today thinking nothing out of the ordinary

and long story short chelldos now has me by every thread of my mortal being, and my reblog page is now flooded with chelldos content that could make me weep

genuinely though i consider the issue with harry styles to be less to do with styles himself and more to do with the breathless coverage of him as though out queer men, in particular out queer men of colour, have not been doing the same, and more, and better, for longer

he is, personally, fine. his sense of style re: femme clothing is atrocious but like that's my right as a femme dyke to judge him. the FACT that he plays with gender in his styling without telling the world What It Means is not a real problem tho? there is no solution required re: his behaviour here.

i think a man says obnoxious things about movies and spends a lot of time navel gazing and i have not liked a single dress he has ever worn, but he is not the guy out here claiming to be the first or the most or the best Gender. he has made no claims to be representing the queer community or any subset of it, while also doing his best to like, acknowledge that he has a substantial queer following that he wants to feel welcome at his concerts.

this is such a non-problem for me to have a feeling about, but i do! have a whole feeling about it! i just think that like, we can probably let this one lie? or at the very least, tackle the Coverage that elevates whiteness and queer ambiguity above the contributions of explicitly out queer people to the Culture rather than going This Man's Bad Fashion Choices Can't Be Queer

one of my favorite meaningless rants to go on is my anger and disappointment with build a bear.

for example, as a kid I could walk into one of the stores and be like “today. I get a sheep.” The next time it could be a pug. Whatever it may be idk I didn’t go that often.

But NOWWW you wanna get a cutesy little animal and they’re like nOoOo you can choose Advertisement A., scary bear with uncanny valley hair, or frog (I like the frogs), and if you want a cutesy animal, you gotta order it online.

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.
