HI. WELCOME TO THE CLUB, watch the trigger warnings. but yeah, revolutionary girl utena veers more and more towards surrealism the further you get into the series. it often and voluntarily forfeits narrative/logical consistency in favor of visual storytelling, metaphors and symbolism. i was just talking about it with nic the other day, and if the story weren't so harrowing, i would recommend it to everyone who wants to get into literary analysis, because it is SO packed with symbolism EVERYWHERE that it actually encourages you to try to decode it.

whatever you think utena is about, it is NOT. you can't go in and treat it like your 49293th classical shoujo. utena is a firework show of visual symbolism and it very rarely, if ever, explains itself to the viewer. it refuses to handhold you, but it never berates you for trying and getting it wrong either. there is SO much handholding in modern day media, but utena trusts its viewer to take away something meaningful from itself and to piece its message together on their own. it's one of my favourite pieces of media of all time just for that

#it's almost closer to a poem and to poetry than to a story in the sense that we think think about today #you see why ye standard transformative fandom was never able to take hold with utena? #my suggestion is try to actively analyze what's going on and the symbols presented to you as you go along #find recurring motifs. utena deals a LOT with cycles and repetition (they were playing into their budget limitations and did it brilliantly #what objects keep returning. what characters are they associated with. how do they relate to the irl systems of power the story criticizes #what does the white rose mean #^ had a lot of fun trying to figure that one out. i landed on something other people in the fandom also got but then nic told me his take #and yeah they basically pried my third eye open with a crowbar. #this anime made me want to try out symbolism and allegories in my own works #it's so fucking good #but hey if you finish it and still feel like you didn't get 90% of that you can go to nic metanarrates' blog and check out his rgu tag #basically 50% of the fandom posts are visual and narrative analysis. the other 10% is breathtaking art. the remaining 40% is memes #BUT! wait until you're finished..watch for spoilers #rgu #answered asks

Hrmm... put together a roommates quiz finally after years of thinking it would be an interesting idea lol.. Though obviously not meant to be taken super seriously, I just like thinking about this aspect of personality compatibility. I made this to give to friends from time to time and thought... why not post it here too #just out of sheer curiosity if anyone takes it what the most common results would be and etc. #My initial assumption is that most people would probably fall into the 'maybe' category and that either extreme of 'best roomates' #and 'worst roomates' would be the least common #very long also since I like to be thorough I guess #THOUGH... upon second thought... tumblr is home of the like Weird Introverts Who Sit Inside All The Time.. so maybe it's more #likely to come across compatible poeple on here. given that many of the questions are about how meticulous #people are with their scehdules or how often they invite friends over or if they like to mostly stay inside etc. #(since personally I think having a roommate coming and going and bringing random people over all the time would be too chaotic #lol... I need a peaceful quiet household) #Also I kind of don't like the way uquiz seems to do results. I was hoping it would be a number tally? I used some sort of quiz making site #before where you weight the question responses with a number (so the 'Best' response is worth a 0 #The worst is worth like 5 points. and all the in between are like 1 - 4 points or something). So then it is actually possible to have a #''perfect score'' category (someone who gets a literal 0 points). and also you could weight some EXTREMELY bad answers #to add like +10 to the score instead of just +5. And someone who got the MAX possible points would be the WORST compatibility. etc. #But uquiz seems to just be like ''which category did you score towards the MOST'. So someone can give some pretty bad answers #that are VERY non compatible. but as long as MOST of their answers landed in a 'compatible' category #then they would still be listed as compatible despite still actually having some dealbreakers in there. Which is also possible with the #'every answer is a number amount' ranking system too. but I feel like that one does allow for a little more customization #and accuracy (like making the dealbreakers add like...+40 to the score or something so that #there's basically NO way that someone could answer with one of those and still get a good score. Or the ability to have a literal #'perfect score' (getting a zero) etc. #BUt anyway lol... inchresting.. inchresting... curious to consider maybe making a uquiz #for the characters in the gameI'm making like.. which npc are you type quiz or something #now that I've made one and seen how it works.. hrmm hrmm.... #(< game will not even be done for like another year but still thinking about nonsense like this lol)

most of the time i have zero understanding for the want to read bad nromance novels im like. why would you do that. what do you get out of that. but last night i was going thru the markwardo tag on ao3 and i was . utterly and completely charmed. by how many were like. eduardo works at a coffee shop on campus and mark sits in the corner till close on his computer! au where they're born with their soulmate's most important words on them! au where they get stuck in a timeloop and mark spends it trying to give eduardo the most romantic day possible so that he can always remember it and be happy!

#he's at level 39 w a dull blade and random artifacts. i originally just threw whatever on them but then harvested them for other characters #also my anti barbara era was soooo pathetic like. i just wanted 5*s for the sake of having 5*s despite the fact that barbara Literally Is A #5* under the 4* label (she was meant to be a limited 5* but then hoyo realized that they never gave us a free healer so they changed #barbara's rarity and gave her out for free. which is the reason why she's the only 4* w a 5* burst animation) #also 'i don't need ayaka when i actually use my kaeya' was dumb too. you Can't be playing genshin w only one functional team it's just not #sustainable + not as much fun. genuinely this was during the period of time when my kaeya was lvl 80 and everyone else was ~lvl 40 or lower #bc i wanted to replace them and i just had kaeya solo everything and wondered why i couldn't complete the rank up quest/do big numbers #n e ways. now that i've forgiven qiqi for the crime of not being scara + fallen in love w layla + still am a kaeya main + actually #understand how genshin team comps/building characters work i've realized that a. cryo sword users have my fave gameplay and b. you can make #a fully rounded genshin team w just them (ayaka is a main dps. kaeya is a sub dps. qiqi is a healer and layla is a shield) and i haven't #seen anyone else use them all together that way and i want to be the first. but first i need ayaka. #+ all their signature weapons bc. c'mon. how much cooler would that be (read: i feel like i'd get more clout for it) #romeo.txt

anon i'm so sorry my character page is held together by glitter glue and twigs. i don't actually know what any of the code means i just googled and wrote down what it said to do 😭 my best advice is to hope for a miracle

#my actual steps: #google html template and copy and paste that in #then google how to put an image in #then struggle for 40 minutes trying to get one image to show up #it'll eventually work so then add in a second image #that second image you add in will mess up the whole page and you'll struggle for 40 more minutes trying to fix it #repeat for each image #then try to add a button and have all your images disappear #spend 2 days fighting it over and over #then voila! #you have your character page #sorry i can't help #ask

#a.k.a the og version was bothering me so I completely redrew her eyes and added more shadows to make her facial features more pronounced #gonna just copy over my og tags bc I can’t be bothered to come up with new ones #my art #artists on tumblr #the legend of korra #original character #seeds of the red lotus #sotrl haya #god... like on one hand yes. she's an awful person. she abused her brother's kids for 16 years #left lasting mental and emotional scars on them to the point that even years after they last see her they're still recovering #even after all the bruises have healed her voice is still in their heads. fear of her still dictates so many of their actions #someone like her doesn't deserve any amount of sympathy. nor after everything she's done #but on the other... the person who did all that is haya in her 30s and 40s. here she's just 14 #she just had her whole world shattered in a matter of weeks. she's left with nothing and no one but an empty house and her 5yo brother #she has no one to turn to. no shoulder to cry on. apart from losing her parents she had to quit school and stop hanging out with her friend #sh ehad to abandon any hobbies she might have had. I imagine she was quite like suiren and midori used to be. curious and intelligent #and very keen on trying new things. she had to leave all that behind to work day and night while earning only barely enough to scrape by on #just enough for them to survive. to keep the house. to be clothed and fed. there was no room for treats or luxuries of any kind #how many dresses did she cut up to use as material for ghazan's clothes? how many nights did she go hungry just so he could eat? #and she can't even cry about it. not while he's around anyway because she's supposed to be strong for him. #I imagine she often cried after putting ghazan to bed. just out of sheer helplessness. from how exhausted she was #she cried herself to sleep every night and pulled herself back together every morning #tied her hair back with her mother's kerchief and went straight to work anywhere that would hire her. working until she could barely stand #all for him. I'm not excusing her actions in any way but I understand why she was overcome with resentment after he left her #running away without as much as a goodbye. after everything she had done for him. spitting in her face would have hurt less #so when he resurfaced over a decade later to dump his bastard children on her it didn't take long for all that resentment to find an outlet #and the rest is history... fuck. thinking about her teenage and ya self always makes me cry. she was so much like suiren it's heartbreaking #well. the only reason suiren is like this now is bc of her. but yk what they say. the history book on the shelf is always repeating itself #anyway. The Half Life of Valery K by Natasha Pulley would be so good if it was good

#i'm gonna have to revive my goodreads account just to leave a bad review AND send 10 million ranting voice messages to my friend tomorrow #ok first the premise was good and based on true history about the ussr's secret nuclear testing facility City 40 #the first half of the book had well-written mystery and the atmosphere was truly chilling it was a great cold war era thriller #unfortunately this book has too many flaws and just things that are straight up bad #such as: the mc is an uwuified scientist ex prisoner who GUESS WHAT worked directly under joseph mengele on human experiments??? #and it's just like but uwu he was still young and had no choice #well the author had a choice and if you're gonna write something like that at least explore the topic properly???????? #oh yeah and an entire prisoner train carriage of women gets raped by all the male prisoner except for valery our heroic mc #who couldn't do anything about it then until he laters kills all of those men with a bomb so he gets a traumatic AND a heroic backstory #and then the love interest: the kgb man with a wife and 4 kids he dearly loves but who conveniently get written off at the end #with no clear resolution as to what actually happened to his family after he defects abroad and he barely even mentions them afterwards???? #oh yeah and our mc has some wildly anachronistic sjw-esque tumblr feminisms that the author forced in seemingly to make up for her #treatment of the actual female characters in the book??? #the science was sound for the most part except the so-called scientist characters were being STUPID about it #they're like ohhh i wonder what are these weird mud geysers that keep popping off when we're not on volcanic ground #THAT'S THE GODDAMN HEAT FROM THE RADIOACTIVE WASTE AND I KNEW THAT FROM THE FIRST MENTION OF THESE GEYSERS #also the authir doesn't know how russian surnames work and wildly overestimates the amount of coffee that russians drink #and wildly underestimates the alcohol tolerance of 50+ year old bulky kgb officers and doesn't seem to know that the russian language #is gendered. like she writes a whole monologue for valery complaining about being called mister by the english because it's gendered???? #also the whole resolution of the book is like a mediocre action thriller airport novel compared to the tense and atmospheric beginning #nah i'm going to sleep. good night

I need to actually remember to make sure to check the 3ds shop before it shuts down next month, but like. every time time I think about it I just get sad. the switch isn’t bad either but the 3ds was so much of my childhood and I just. idk. I liked how it was smaller and more portable and the two screens and also it just. looked so much better than switch games. sorry. maybe the switch games only look so pixelated bc of the hardware idk what it is but they look so badly optimised sometimes. meanwhile ds games still look good 10-15 years later
