can u tell us more about the rest of the characters you showed off for ur s&m game?
Thank you I'd love to talk about them!!!
Tumblr media
-This is Manny Money, of course I had to go with an Ace Atttorney-like name. He is the one who has organized the party in his big mansion. He is usually always smiling, he is very cheery, but you can easily tell he is a very fake person. He owns a toy brand/company, inhereted by his father, but lately the toys have not been selling well and for some reason Manny is not really doing anything about it? Strange
Tumblr media
-I have not decided the name of the rest of the characters yet, this lady here is mysterious, cold, distant and always seems like she knows a lot about everyone and about this mystery. She's a succesful singer, although she usually stays out of public eye from some reason. She is also Manny's ex, something he clearly hasn't let go of, but she has, she is very open about how much she dislikes him. She is suspicious but Sam and Max have funny interactions with her because they are usually pretty nice to her despite everything
Tumblr media
-This is a supervillain skeleton, also the owner of a film company, that's not his secret identity or anything but Sam and Max think that it is lol. He is a very theatrical person, when he tries to be a villain or when he is simply having a normal conversation, he just loves a good show. Sam and Max have fought him in the past, but they barely remember anything about him
Tumblr media
-This fish is shy, socially anxious, gets startled easily, they are not having a good time in a murder mystery. Think of characters like Luigi, Boober, they are kind like that. They are an actor, whenever they act they become a very confident person, acting is the thing that always calms them, also water because they are a fish. There is a theatre and a pool on the mansion so perhaps that can help? Overall they are a very sweet person, they just worry a lot, and you have a lot to worry about in a murder mystery. They genuinely like Sam and Max, like they don't roll their eyes at them or think they are strange, they genuinely like Sam and Max, it's very sweet. Oh yeah, first sam&max nonbinary representation, second if the VR player counts, there will be a couple more, the party will have plenty of NPCs
Tumblr media
-This pig, capitalist pig, he is a terrible person. His entire personality is being a billionaire asshole, he is fun to hate or you can just hate him without the fun. He has funny facial expressions, think of Burgerpants from Undertale, not exactly like that but similar. He is rivals with Manny, even though this pig is richer than him Manny somehow always humiliates him, but he keeps going to his parties anyway
Tumblr media
-Of course you know her already, but I want to talk about her too! She is a succesful fashion designer, she has her own magazine. She wants to interview the guests on the party, take pictures, take notes about the different outfits, etc. She does that but gets bored after a while, she loves her job but the party grows old quick. She has a very cute personality with a very blunt and direct sense of humor, she says what she thinks and she is not shy to ask questions, she is a reporter of her own magazine after all, even though it's only about fashion, she is just curious to investigate about everything else too. She gets along well with Sam and Max, the things they find amusing and entertaining she also finds amusing and entertaining, she is just very casual about it. She helps with solving the mystery, because that sounds fun, she will give find a bunch of hints and stuff that will help the case move forward. You'll even get a dress-up minigame thanks to her! She does more in the story but that's a spoiler, but overall she is just a lot of fun and she has the best friendship with Sam and Max
Tumblr media
-The squirrel is only there for a puzzle, it's not a character. The bee is not a character either, but it's the mascot of Manny's toy company, you will see him a lot
-The little bat however! That's a little guy that was flying around the mansion until Max accidentaly knocks it out, we use it for a puzzle and then Sam keeps it in his pockets. When it wakes up, even though it's a little mad, it will help you for one thing: fast travel! This is a big mansion, you don't have to backtrack over and over, this little bat is here and is strong enough to carry you both. You can talk to it too, it will have another role in the story later on, but that's a spoiler. I don't know how to describe its personality other than a cute videogame companion, think of Telly Vision from Chibi-Robo, or Heart from Mad Rat Dead

Best If Used By.... |Fashion Dreamer #1
Hello all! I spent a few days playing Fashion Dreamer, and have been having a blast! It's not 'Style Savvy', but it ever meant to be! I have some concerns.. But first... Outfit(s) of the day! (Fasion Dreamer ID: a8xv8rRA3A)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing Fancy yet, Here's my second muse: (WIP)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, so my thoughts on the game as a whole. (not a review) It's super fun..if you know what you're getting into. It's closer to most modern 'Dress-UP' apps than classic Style Savvy. But that's really what I was looking for! You can think of it as Shining Niki, Covet Fashion, etc, But with no microtransactions, and a much heavier emphasis on community! The game DOES NOT require a paid switch online subscription, It ABSOLUTELY requires wifi to get the full experience. All the events are online-only, you can see and dress up other players characters (muses) based on their stated preferences, And you can even put in requests from people you've met, or you can just list your preferences for anyone to style. You specify your style, colors, patterns, etc, and other players will send you custom outfits!
Tumblr media
(sorry, this filter looks really bad in screenshots) I played the game for a few days via emulator, while waiting for my copy of the game to arrive. And honestly, 'Offline Mode" felt like an entirely different game. You can still dress up your character, and fulfill outfit request for NPC's, and design your own showroom, but that's it.
Tumblr media
The world feels much smaller when just cycling through the same small handful of NPC's with very similar dialogue. You still play the role of an "influencer", looking to grow their online following and brand, But without any other real players, it just becomes a grindy numbers game.
Tumblr media
You make check the billboards, grab the items, make an outfit, take a photo, and get automatic 'likes' from the game's imaginary public. Then you just keep doing it over and over to increase your 'follower count. There are a few bonus things you can do, such as take pictures with other people, and 'pin' the post to boost incoming 'likes' and 'follows', But without the online community aspect, it's extremely repetitive.
Tumblr media
And that's where the title of the post comes in, The game was clearly designed similar to a live service game, the players are expected to be online almost all the time, and new features and items become available over time. However, while this game is $50, it doesn't feature microtransactions
That's a HUGE plus for me, But it makes me wonder how financially viable this game will be for the publisher in the long run. When the sales start to slow, they'll have far less money coming in, And that may make it harder to keep updating the game. And if they stop updating the game, older fans may stop playing Less people online means the 'community' aspect will lessen ...And at the end of the day there are server cost to consider.
Tumblr media
So it really makes me wonder, how long they'll choose to support this game. Will the game end up with a "best if used by date", because the game costs the devs some amount of money just to keep it running, ...not even including the time it takes to make more items to keep people interested. I've been having a lot of fun now, but I think they should have focused a bit more on the single player experience, and implemented more interesting offline goals. As who knows, 3, 5, 10 years down the line, the game I'm enjoying now will may longer exist. ---- Sorry for the more 'bleak' post, I'd still highly recommend this game to those who think it sounds interesting. I've just seen a ton of VERY Strong opinions on this game, but no one mentioning the live service trappings. Anyways, feel free to leave your thoughts or comments down below!

The whole emblem thing honestly gives "video game sidequest" vibes. It has the same emotional impact as a farmer from Skyrim talking about their ancestor's sword or whatever. There's no setup, you don't know anything about the ancestor's relationships and you don't care, to the player it's just a thing in their inventory. Now personally I expect a supposed emotional conflict for my main hero to have a *bit* more depth than Random NPC #214, but hey, I'm just some anon, what do I know?
Clearly we know nothing because we're just big mean critics who can't possibly understand such a deep emotional impact Ruby's emblem that she never mentioned or really indicated even existed for the past 8 and some change volumes /s.
In all seriousness though anon I completely agree, it truly feels like a random Skyrim sidequest item given to a random NPC we will never see again and the show wants to pretend its this important emotional item tied to Ruby that we should care about her giving away. Sure it's been apart of her outfits since volume 1, but other characters had things apart of all their outfits until in volume 7 they just threw them away so trying to insist the emblem is somehow different falls extremely flat for me. I've said it before and I'll say it again, other shows have shown random accessories to show more weight and value very easily. Why didn't RWBY with this emblem? The answer, CRWBY likely only recently decided to actually have it tied back to Summer rather then it just being a marketing item for Ruby. Hell they even tried to shoehorn in Ruby uses it as a source of comfort but couldn't even do so in a shot where you could actually see the damn movement.
I understand completely what RT wanted us to take away from the moment, but that doesn't mean it emotionally landed or did what they where trying to do. We had no moments of like Ruby panicking because she thought she lost it, or someone noticing she wears it everywhere and asking her about it. Like I had a locket I thought looked pretty so I wore it all the time because I thought it looked nice and I had so many friends ask if it was a family heirloom or something and I had to explain that no it just looked pretty. Why didn't we have someone ask Ruby about that emblem and why she wore it all the time? It's just another thing to add onto the long list of things CRWBY insists have been "planned from the beginning" but when you take two seconds to examine it you realize their is no way that is the case because we see no hints of it before the moment it becomes relevant.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 11: Courting!Xian
Word Count: 844  Pairing: Wangxian Tags: MMO, Give Wei Ying those romance scenes damn it, pickup lines
Wei Ying heaved a sigh as he meandered around the vast open-world of Avelian: World of Secrets, the newest MMO that had been occupying his life. While he loved the game, for all of its amazing qualities - character customization, hot mic, battle system, graphics, and story line, there was one major flaw.
There were so few players that the world felt so empty!! He hadn't met anyone worthy of a friend request, and he certainly had found a guild to join either.
So for the most part, he plowed through the story line until he found himself in one of the most beautiful areas of the game, Wisteria Falls.
Wei Ying was absolutely floored by the gorgeous scenery in this area, he certainly wished they had a place like this IRL. But for now, he'd enjoy the view. He watched a few players flit about, but most of them were gone as quick as he saw them. That's fine, the NPCs here seemed interesting enough.
He walked amongst the regal looking 'towns folk' until he came across the most striking avatar he had ever seen. He remembered somewhere back in the tutorial that it mentioned that almost all NPCs were marriageable with special scenes with a few select NPCs who were meant to be marriage candidates had extra romance scenes and after wedding scenes.
This game really appealed to his every interest and he couldn't fathom how it wasn't more popular.
Wei Ying sauntered up to the beautiful looking NPC who was sitting on a bench under a Wisteria tree reading a book. He had never seen this emote before, so there was no reason to believe that this gorgeous elf with the most stunning outfit,  was anything but an NPC.
Surely, with such beautiful looks this NPC was one of the fabled "true romance NPCs". They mentioned these guys had super advanced AI right? So maybe a little flirting would work?
"I'd rather ride you than Yoshi any day~"
No response.
"Mm.. yeah, maybe that was too strong right out the gate." Wei Ying nodded solemnly.
"I choose you! ...That line isn't gonna get me copyrighted, right?"  He thought over his plethora of nerdy pickup lines before deciding on his next.
"You must know Tail Whip because your beauty leaves me defenseless.... no, too corny."
"It's dangerous to go alone. Take me!" He groaned. "He's an NPC, he isn't going anywhere...." He huffed, clearly disappointed in himself.
He'd get a reaction out of this NPC and woo him if it was the last thing he did!
"I've only got one heart left, and it's beating for you."
"Will you be my final fantasy?"
"I would love to go phoenix down on you."
"Do you play World of Warcraft? Because you make me say WoW!"
"Is that a keyblade in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"
"If I had more skill points, I'd put them on "pickpocket" so I'd be able to steal your heart."
Finally, the NPC put away his book and looked at Wei Ying, causing the other to light up. "Ahha!! Finally, man, you're one tough NPC to romance. I used one of those on an NPC in the first city and couldn't get her to stop following me for days!" He laughed.
"...I'm sorry?"
"Mmm okay, one more!" He cheered, finally relieved to have made some headway. "I need some experience points in love-making, will you help me?"
"I believe you should treat me to dinner before offering such a thing."
Wei Ying blinked, looking at him for a moment, taking in the way he was watching him. Advanced AI or not... this NPC was moving like a player... their body adjusting with the VR gear.
Wei Ying's face slowly went a bright red. "Oh my god you're not a marriage NPC!!"
"....you were courting an NPC?"
Wei Ying whined. "I wanted the marriage scenes!!!" He shook his head. "Oh my god how long have you been there?? Were you just AFK?! I've never seen another player sit and read so I thought--"
"It is a special emote for DEVs."
"Oh my god you're a dev? Okay. You can delete my account now.. I'm gonna go die on my bed or something."
The pretty elf raised an eyebrow. "All that flirting and no follow through?"
Wei Ying choked a little. "Y-you.... follow through?"
"Mn."
"I-I mean... I... hnng... I guess I should introduce m-myself? I'm Wei Ying."
"Mn. It is nice to meet you, Wei Ying. If you're interested in a virtual date, I'd love to hear more about this courting method of yours."
"Oh my God I'm going to unalive right here." He fully intended to pull up his lot out screen, but a pop up window with a friend request caused him to hesitate.
Friend Request Received:  Player: Hanguang-Jun Level: 99 Message: "You must be wearing a ring of power, because I think you're precious."
Wei Ying squeaked, his face going red.
Yeah... maybe buying this game was the best decision of his life.

Are Ben & Ismelda meant to be boyfriend & girlfriend now or something? I mean someone said they saw a Gryffindor & Slytherin kissing at the dance, but I have no idea if that was referring to those two, it very well might not have been. But Ben canonly has a crush on Ismelda either way even if they aren’t officially together. I genuinely don’t know how to feel rn. 😕
Gail's going to be so mad.
No but for real, I can see Luca's jaw just hitting the floor, before they laugh it off and decide it's cute. But Gail is furious. Ben is her foster brother and she has never, ever liked Ismelda. It'll take time and a lot of it for her to accept this.
I don't recall seeing them kiss either, at least not when I played it. I still need to watch Akemi's video though, maybe I'll notice something there. When you say "someone" saw it, are you referring to a player or an NPC? If you mean an NPC, in like flavor text or something, I didn't catch that either - but if that dialogue exists, I think that's meant to be a clear indication that yes, a kiss happened, even if it's not direct confirmation. If you mean a player, then you may want to ask them to elaborate. Since never mind their outfits, it was very clearly Ben and Ismelda dancing together, not just a "Gryffindor and Slytherin" y'know?
Hah, this almost reminds me of Hermione's kiss with Krum which may or may not have happened. (But totally did.)
Either way, you're right. Ben and Ismelda are getting ship-teased a lot and honestly...like, wow. It's so surreal to me. Two years ago, I would have expected a scene like this to eventually appear in the game for an entirely different pairing. Remember when they used to drop hints like crazy that Jae and Chiara were close? If this had been the two of them, prior to their addition to the roster of love interests...I feel like people wouldn't be nearly as shocked. As it is, Ben and Ismelda are certainly an odd couple, but I dunno, I kind of dig it?
Ismelda is someone who likely doesn't think of herself as being attractive. So for someone to express interest in her, which I don't believe has ever happened before, how can she not jump on that chance? Ben is also a good guy, despite his flaws, and I think she could definitely start to see herself fancying and/or dating him. As for Ben crushing on her? It's certainly a surprise, but I dunno. We've never really had any indications or hints about Ben's type before. Ismelda could definitely be someone he falls for. There's a neat bit of irony in it, considering how the two of them each embody the stereotypes of their Houses (before deconstructing them) and said Houses have always been rivals.
The only real issue here is once again, the Hogwarts Mystery timeline, and how once again, the writers have made it more confusing. They write quests out of chronological order, but this doesn't stop them from writing the character arcs in a chronological order, if that makes sense. Ismelda has come a long way since her introduction, for instance, and that seems to be true in all the new quests no matter when they're placed. But in particular, I have questions about Ben, and what this crush means for him, where he currently is in his character arc. Is this "New" Ben? It would make more sense, but...no, apparently, this is a Year 5 quest. Hold on, if this is Year 5, doesn't Ismelda still have a crush on Barnaby? Even if you do this quest post-Crushed, it still doesn't make a lot of sense, because she explicitly stated that she now wants someone less innocent. Which does suit "New" Ben, but it sure doesn't suit "Old" Ben.

Random observations of the trophies in Super Smash Bros. Melee, because I thought they were interesting - Part 4
Pokémon stuff. And a lot of it, so let's get into it. Despite them later becoming playable as a trio through the Pokémon Trainer, Ivysaur is the only one that did not get a trophy in Melee while Squirtle and Charizard did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other members of Ivysaur's evolution line, Bulbasaur and Venusaur, did receive a trophy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The same happens to Squirtle's evolutions, where Wartortle is missing, but Blastoise is accounted for.
Tumblr media
Charmander and Charmeleon, however, do not get trophies, meaning Charizard is the only Generation 1 starter to not have any members of its evolution line to get a trophy. On a related note, Charizard's eyes are brown in its trophy, which is strange, due artwork almost always depicts Charizard with blue or greenish blue eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite Meowth being #52 in the National Pokédex, it is not listed with the rest of the Gen 1 Pokémon. Instead, it is listed after the Gen 2 Pokémon. The guitar and mention of Meowth's Party (the seventh ending of the original anime) means this trophy is based on the Team Rocket trio Meowth from the anime instead a standard in game Meowth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Along with Meowth, Professor Oak, who appears in both the games and anime, takes after the latter with his colors. Yet he also keeps the slippers from his game artwork. Picture 2 is his Red/Green design while picture 3 is his anime design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Misty is also very clearly based on her anime incarnation, due to her outfit, as her game counterpart only wore a swimsuit. That said, Yellow does use her anime design in game, as does fellow Gym Leader Brock, due to it taking elements from the show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pokémon Snap also got a trophy through ZERO-ONE. I don't have anything to say about that, I just thought it was really neat and I wish later games pulled more from the spin offs. Also more trainer/NPC trophies please.
Tumblr media
And now for a rousing round of trophies I really like, because I find them really weird, but super neat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun fact: Topi is completely different in Japan. They're seals, but were turn into yeti monsters, because seal clubbing is kind of a big no no. This also affects their appearance in Adventure mode where they show up as enemies. Also from what I recall, the model does not change if you change the language setting, only the text will.
Tumblr media
I also really like these Japan Only trophies, it adds a sense of mystery about them. I imagine at the time, this was a really fascinating way to learn more about Nintendo's library of games that never made it over to the states.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to spook a Smash 4 competitive player:
Tumblr media
For a moment, I was worried the Pokémon section would've ended up as its own post, so I'm grateful I was able to squeeze in some unrelated trophy information. I will continue with more strange, but ever so cool trophies next time whenever I feel like it. As per usual, to those that have gotten this far, thank you for giving this post the time out of your day/night to read more of my inane ramblings.

So ive been staring at my sketchbook for a while head empty
So for now i will instill these thoughts into your head and run away cackling
-P03 making you a specific model for botopia, either as the player or an npc to surprise you with (which has dialogue clearly showing his love toward you)
-P03 and Archivist bickering about what goes where in the files about you (because p03 just needed to be there hehe)
-Archivist stealing a few drones for a minute to get you lots of supplies (and gifts) with p03 begrudgingly agreeing too because he loves you <3
-Archivist occasionally doodling little pictures of you with hearts whilst organizing files
-P03 going out of his way to travel to another domain just to personally pick you your favorite flowers
-Archivist picking up sewing to make you handmade outfits as a surprise
-P03 going as far as to make his factory workers also pledge loyalty to you (also him trusting you with the card maker which you could totally make op cards with jus saying ;])
-Archivist and P03 taking you outside the island to visit your favorite places (p03 grumbling the whole time but very much loving how happy you look)
-Archivist occasionally asking Photographer take pictures of you or you and her together for her files about you
NWONOFOFJBEJFELDELNDKW
I'M GOING FUCKING BONKERS OVER THIS RN-/pos
All of these are running around in my mind like rats
Eehehe so soft <3

Moscow Analysis
For this project I think I absolutely have to have at least 3 character profiles with written dialogue to show what my plans with it where and that I was able to create that and it must also have in game characters that the player can talk too with the written dialogue. These must haves are because I want to have a much greater focus on narrative for this project and my main focus should be showing that I am capable of doing that over the things I typically focus on in a project.
My should haves are much more traditional things for my project like a re-playable game play loop built a random item system, which this time should be more unique with a stronger focus on player choice in moments of stress rather than player choice between two random items during downtime like my previous project. The game should also have a hub world like area which provides the player with an opportunity to talk to NPCs they save more under different context. I should also have multiple visual assets for both characters and environments that very clearly differentiate themselves from the first game by accommodating the new setting into the designs.
The game could have various difficulties that the player can pick from between runs in a similar to the original arcade game and If I decide to do this I can spend some time making the difficulties more unique beyond just more enemies and less choices like it was in the original. The game could also have different outfits they can earn and equip that wont have direct effect on game play but just provide another reason for the player to want to keep attempting runs.
Despite the 2 by 2 theme my game wont have any kind of co-op options as its not something I'm particularly interested in doing and I don't want to over complicate things for the players and myself by adding a second player.

Yugioh S5 Ep 20: Yugi’s Senshi Outfit
So I’ve been doing a lot of work, and I haven’t looked at the blog for a hot minute and when I finally checked back in to do these posts I noticed something on my tumblr was just blowing up. I got all excited thinking “oh shoot, Did I draw something right??” and instead, it was a random post I made about the bootspants from season 1. Three years later, resurrected from the grave and covered in...thousands of notes? I don’t understand how this website works.
Anyways, the comments are mostly good, but a little bit wild. A lot of people seem to think I would know what Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is, when I’m an adult who is still watching the first 5 seasons of Yugioh. (I will never have time to watch Jojo,) and then some other people started talking about Actual Card Mechanics that went...completely beyond my comprehension. But then there was one person. One person who said one thing, and brought it all together.
Poots.
The boots that are pants.
Poots.
I can’t believe I looked at all the different combinations, but a Poots never crossed my brain.
It is so perfect, so cathartic, although it took 3 years to get there.
Poots.
Anyways, we’re in S5 and unfortunately not in poots anymore, Yugi is now dressed in a tupperware container from hell and they have wandered into a desert. On cue, Grandpa has an injury, but at least this time it’s not his ass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know how there’s artists who do hyper-realistic versions of pokemon monsters with detailed bone structure and muscle anatomy? I dare them to look at this orb and tell me how the hell it has wings. Like go ahead and try and pin a spine down on that thing. I’ll wait.
(read more under the cut)
Tumblr media
So Joey decides to sprint down this endless desert with just boundless positivity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over the edge of this sand dune is a whole bunch of huts, just random civilization out in the middle of no where.
Tumblr media
One girl walks over and it’s a look.
Tumblr media
She’s really the only one here who can talk, and she just seems...so incredibly bored to be here. A whole lot of Wednesday Addams energy. She leads them into a hut where an old guy pulls a scroll out of blue fire. As you do.
Tumblr media
Again, this arc should have been a video game, because while it’s something to get the player interested if there’s some riddle they have to solve to progress, when you’re watching a TV show, it’s not like I’m the one solving the riddle. The format is honestly one of the downers of this arc, tbh.
It has strong “I played a D+D sesh and made a webcomic out of it vibe” and I know I just called out like half of you, but listen, I will not take it back.
Tumblr media
This episode, our gimmick is some asshole is going to be yelling at us from the other end of the map, just shouting in the background for the entirety of the episode like that tangible human skull meme.
Tumblr media
Then Wednesday Addams hands over yet another MacGuffin because why not?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tea can twin it up with Yugi now. Her necklace doesn’t seem haunted, but it’s only a matter of time. (also her necklace looks so freakin terrible, we’ll see it later and I’ll have a lot more to say because wtf it looks like some sort of polly pocket.)
Tumblr media
I’m not 100% that the voice that shouts at us from the end of the hall this episode is Mokuba’s voice actress. But I’m 99% positive it is, or Mokuba’s voice is just really that type of vibe.
Tumblr media
Stuff happens, and it felt like card duel stuff, so I’m gonna skip over the part where they pulled out their duel monsters one by one, since the fight was pointless anyway because the worms can turn you into stone. So Yugi and Pharaoh decide to have a chat about it because their plan is clearly not working.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is when Pharaoh has a vivid lucid daydream, which seems like something that would have been more convenient before he ended up turning into stone on the floor of some desert. But, hallucinations never come when they’re convenient on this show. They usually come during card games, tbh.
Tumblr media
Imagine with me that you’re dreaming of like...an old ass greek guy who is 99% Alexander the Great. Imagine he tells you to fuse with a sentient paper card that you already carry around in a weird capsule.
Tumblr media
Please
For the love of all that is holy
Do not think about what it means to fuse with the Dark Magician.
Dark Magician is...he “exists” but he’s like not even a person. There seem to be whole fleets of dark Magicians, which are all the same guy, just cloned, right? Or maybe they’re a family? Or like...I don’t freakin know. Like they’re all hanging out together in some card dimension so it’d be more like fusing with the guy who dresses like Barney the dinosaur instead of actually Barney. Like he’s more of like a concept than a dude, but apparently you can just introduce him to your...whatever this armor is supposed to be, and Dark Magician turns into a Super Suit.
Tumblr media
I want to express my thanks to the Yugioh team for not putting Yami in his underoos. Hell, they didn’t even take off his jacket. I do not know what art directer ok’d this for animation and said “yeah, this won’t kills us if we animate it.” but that is a hell ton of lines and design right there. Yeah they have 3d, and probably had to 3d that staff...but that doesn’t mean you don’t end up drawing it, in the end--you still have to draw over your 3d. You still have to draw literally everything.
Anyway, when we get to the eye of the storm. The secret to getting there was that you have to fly, which again--3/5 of these guys already have a monster that can fly. We can finally tell the voice at the end of the hall to stop yelling because it’s really bothering all the townspeople, and then move on with the quest.
Tumblr media
Everyone else was stone during this. So when they un-petrified they kinda looked over at Yugi and were like “how freakin long was I out???”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But youknow, Yugi’s 2 people, so it’s fine. So long as you don’t get down to the third bastard still sitting around in there.

After this, our NPCs vanish, and the show pushes us directly forward. No time for them to piss off a land turtle or set a bunch of wolves on fire. Just get out of the desert and freakin go.

I’m just so bothered by this random ass huge chunky necklace.
It’s like the size of your freakin fist. And it’s just...a pentagon. Congrats Tea, you have a fake ass plastic necklace. I guess it’s so that when we’re far away we can still see it on her chest but like...This show loves huge ass necklaces, and they’re all basic ass shapes. We got a pyramid, the Kaiba’s wear squares, Bakura wears a circle with kind of phallic bits hanging off of it and this is just...it’s literally just a pentagon.
I guess Ishizu wore a wadjet and Duke has an indecipherable clown as his necklace. But man...the Yugioh necklace game is just a lot of shapes.
Tumblr media
And so we continue on with this filler arc, which is also a pokemon arc, and even secretly has a Sailor Moon arc just stuffed in there for funsies. This arc is weird.
Also, I brought up the human skull so I legally have to post this.
youtube
Anyway, here’s a link to read these in chrono order, in case you just got here: https://steve0discusses.tumblr.com/tagged/yugioh/chrono
And I’m off to drink a bin of ice water because it is 5 billion degrees right now in this house.

ok ok hear me out hear me out. Yuma becoming obsessed with one of the game’s ( few ) sentient, non-romancable npcs. Like they can think and feel and ( somewhat ) act for themselves but there just isn’t a route for them. Also bonus points of the darling is kinda bratty/prissy, we haven’t see a lot of readers like that. Ily and your writing so much, mwah — ✨ anon
My my, how different!
Welcome in, ✨ Anon! And thank you for enjoying my writing so far.
TW/Tags: I love this concept, although being very different from the norm // some ddlc vibes // I just discovered a new word and I'm so glad it exists! (prissy reader cause I think this would be very fun-) // angsty // trapping, manipulation and gaslighting // every time the gender isn't set, I like to keep it ambiguous, basically making it gender neutral (gender neutral reader) // gender neutral Yuma //

Just Yuma (lol) [Yandere!A.I OC x A.I!Reader - Headcanon]:
I like to think that a game like Yuma's would be made to entertain the players to at least 5 or so years before the next installment- Which is basically the same as the last with better graphics and switching the main love interest cast.
The games would be made clearly for the sake of fan service and slice of life material- But would be surprisingly more advanced to us than to those who have created the franchise.
Because there is already an estimation of the amount of content and for how long players would play the game, every single character should get at least some bit of highlight- So even npcs that are just there for the sake of ambience and narrative, are treated with a lot of care and given the best a.i the developers could give to make the experience entertaining.
You are just like any other non-dateable npc, except that you have gained a bit of a role in one of the main cast's routes. It wouldn't be a stretch to guess that one of these characters would be Yuma themselves.
You were supposed to be Yuma's love interest, meaning you would have an role as an player's rival- But due to an strict schedule and corporate greed, you have been demoted from having such a big impact, and now you're basically Yuma's best friend who keeps them from committing homicide every five seconds.
It's not exactly a bad role, since you keep having the same dynamic with them from before- Chaotic gremlin is best friends with Paranoid goody two shoes, now with less romantic interactions.
The only mistake by the company was to leave half of the data showcasing this relationship in the game at the release. Basically- Half of the cutscenes and dialogue involving you and Yuma not only being friends but the start of you two dating (the game kinda pairs the couples up if the player fails to date them, or simply shows disinterest in the characters to begin with-) and even some of the things involving you two during the dating phase- Even the potential break-up sequence which could be orchestrated by the player.
Well, could have- Since none of this content is really available or considered official, the only way to access it is by messing the games files.
So in a way, you're already pretty sentient as it is, you act not as a rival but as a somewhat helper into getting the player to get closer to Yuma. I don't know how much you are aware about your own circumstances, or if you even care about the concept of being just an character made for the sake of another-
In the home planet that has created and released the game, players were kinda disappointed with what happened- They preferred the deleted/unused content more than the events and dialogue that was used for you two, so much so that people started shipping you two more than actually being interested in romancing Yuma, especially since they're way too chaotic for most player's taste.
There was an update overhaul being planned to happen where not only the stuff related to you would be changed- But all the other characters and gameplay mechanics would be updated and hopefully make the game better- But ever since your cartridge has been suddenly lost and forgotten on Earth, you were never able to see that update.
Not that you were aware of it to begin with, but still, what a shame. And not only that, your game is basically Glitch Station- Absolutely filed with mods to help the gameplay be "easier" to the original owner of this cartridge. I don't think she even remembers where she has left it.
Still, even when a new save was made you felt a weird sensation of deja vu. The game has started again with a new player playing it and trying to work their way through this broken game.
You didn't understand why all these events felt familiar though, you only felt like it made sense. It was your first year in college, you got ready and made sure to look your best and give your goodbye to your parents-
It felt like this day has happened before, and even if your routine was similar, you felt like this day was supposed to be a big deal- Why does it feel oddly nostalgic?
Why… Why are the floors on your house flowing? Why are there so many empty spaces here and there? You feel like you could potentially fall from your disintegrating house. And your parents, where are they? Why can't you see them? Why can you only hear them saying goodbye back to you from one of the other rooms?
When you open the door to see them- There is nothing there. There is not even a room.
It's a door that leads to nowhere. Just an empty void.
The sensation of dread was starting to creep in yet you thought that it would be uncalled for to overreact. Like you weren't allowed to showcase concern for the odd reality around you.
You walked on foot towards your college, panicking slightly at the people who would fade in and out of existence- Yet you had held yourself from screaming, from showing any sense of vulnerability at the thought that maybe you were in a dangerous place or realm.
You were coded to not find issues with the odd reality around you, like any other npc- You were taught to hold in and try to keep a sense of normality so no players would find issue with screaming characters begging to be freed. But your nervous personality caused you to search for help, you panicked and ended up running away to what you assumed to be a safe place- Somewhere crowded with a lot of people.
The institution's gates were open, you entered like your life depended on it (and maybe it did) yet you stopped yourself from screaming when you noticed a commotion happening.
A guy who was wearing the uniform lazily has bumped into a girl, causing her to fall. She is yelling at him because the fall has broken her phone, he is trying his best to calm her down- But at the same time it feels like he is just making poor choices of words because of how sick he is of having to chat with someone so angry at an accident.
Haven't you seen this before? But if so- When? When could you possibly have seen something like that happen?-
"- [Y/N]?"
"- AAAAH- Oh hey Yuma."
You yelled after getting spooked by Yuma- Who was…. Why are they wearing that?
"- Why aren't you in your uniform, Yumie?" You asked them, showing your own uniform in the process. You called them by a sweet nickname you had given them- But when exactly?
You know that you're best friends with Yuma, but since when? You know it should have been for about 6 years or so, but… It feels like you have only known them for a year- How… Weird.
"- Don't tell me you're already breaking a rule on your first day." You pouted and stomped your fit into the ground. Yes, you know that Yuma is a troublemaker…. You know…. That.
Yuma hasn't been able to speak ever since you showed concern about their outfit. They were staring at you in shock- As if you were an odd creature who they just found.
"- Y-You can see my outfit??" They blurted out. How can you recognize it??? All the other npcs recognize it as their uniform, but why are you suddenly acting like you do??
"- Hm, duh? Sorry Yummie, but that sporty outfit of yours is more eye-catching than that guy's barely well put together uniform- Such bad manners, I bet he woke up and hastily wore the first thing he saw-" You were beginning to go on a rant about that guy's uniform- That guy being the MC of this new save file. Yuma has stopped you by pulling you away from the college's entrance and entering into a secluded area so they could interrogate you over this odd behavior you were displaying.
"- Yummie- What are you doing!?" You cried out feeling hurt by their tight grip on your wrists.
"- WHAT DID YOU CALL MY OUTFIT??" They yelled desperately. Begging for their hypothesis to be corrected.
"- … A breaking of the uniform rule?" You genuinely did not understand where they were talking about.
"- No, No NO! You said Sporty Outfit, right?" They said reminding you of what you have previously commented about their outfit.
"- Oh! Yes, yes I did- And although being somewhat casual looking- It does fit the category of sporty." You readdressed the topic while going on a bit of detail- The usual annoying talk you would always do whenever a dialogue with you was activated.
Yuma was over the edge- They have never, ever met another sentient character with the same a.i as theirs.
They haven't been this happy since a long, long time.
"- You're so annoying!" They screamed, their face showing a bright smile as tears filled their eyes.
"- Yummie that's so rude!-" You were about to defend yourself when they grabbed you and hugged you as tight as they could.
"- You're genuinely so, so, so, so, so, so ANNOYING!!" They continued to go on, laughing while crying, loving every second of this.
You were coded to be their best friend. You were coded to be the one that would balance them out. You were once coded to be someone made to be able to be their lover, but here you are- The real you, free from all the locks that would keep your a.i from growing and understanding them.
If you're able to be sentient, then all of their friends can as well.
You're the personification of a miracle, to Yuma. The personification of hope.
In this scenario, Yuma isn't aware that the player isn't the same alien who has destroyed their digital world, so to them, they can't ever let the player see you getting sentient and becoming aware of your imprisonment.
" If a player finds issues with any of the characters being portrayed, they must return the cartridge to their nearest store to get a factory reset." Such a simple yet frightening tip to Yuma, to any a.i that has suddenly found itself desperate to get out of the system that traps them.
At first, the idea of having someone like them be also aware of the situation is incredible, it's amazing even! You two could possibly work out a way of getting a way to be free- It wouldn't be easy but hopefully you two would be able to have life away from this game and even finding a way of bringing your other friends with you two.
However, after discovering that not only has the cartridge found itself on another planet with another player being the new owner of it- And discovering that it's just a matter of trading places with other people to be able to be free- Yuma would start getting really clingy to you. They have been all alone thinking that they were the only one capable of feeling and thinking for themselves.
Yuma has found those unused events and scattered dialogue, you know?
While they were looking for a possibility, any possibility of getting out- They found those unused files where you two were able to be together.
And although they thought it was weird at first, after seeing you have a better understanding of your current reality and existence- It oddly sounds fitting.
Of course it would be you, the one who always puts them back on the right tracks, to be the second one to want to escape this game.
It 's so fitting.
The idea of being something more than just a best friend to you is starting to sound more and more appealing in their eyes- It's so ironic that you two work together so well.
After Yuma gets their taste of freedom and you try to calm a frightened young guy that wasn't expecting to be suddenly kidnapped and be forced to stay in the game world for a while, you wait for them to find the solution to free everyone without trying to trap anymore "humans"..
No one should be stuck here for the sake of someone else leaving, that's what you have told them.
But Yuma didn't care. Yuma just wanted to be free with you and everyone else, who cares for those that have to deal with a glitchy game for eternity?
You two had an argument. You didn't want to continue feeling like your whole life was a lie, you want to be free but no one should be hurt in the process. What good would it be if someone else has to go through the same torment as you two?
With each day that passes by, you notice how both of your ideas of freedom were different- To the point they had to tell you the truth.
You aren't going out of there anymore. Not until you understand and truly appreciate the effort that Yuma goes through to find a way of freeing you- Of finding a victim, to be in your place.
They never told you about your previously intended role in the game, they thought you would be more terrified of following their instructions- And besides, it would be very distasteful to insinuate that the only reason that they care for you it's because of that code that was left unused- Which couldn't be more of a lie! They genuinely care for you!
…. But maybe a bit of tempering would help you see their side of the story, right?
It can't be that hard to modify some of the codes, the game is already broken anyway.

Pros & Cons About: The Blood Money Update.
↳ Disclaimer: This is mostly jokes. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions, but my sleep deprived self at 6AM made a joke to @wintxrs-hxart about making this post, and now that I’m (mostly) awake; I decided to legit write it. 💛
Tumblr media
The Positives:
♡ It’s an update to the game! After what feels like literal decades of having little to nothing new; I’m honestly excited for there to be an actual update. It isn’t Mexico; it isn’t Guarma; it isn’t an online photo mode—but it’s smth new, and I’m personally excited about that little detail, even if others aren’t.
* I’m not counting outlaw passes as ‘new content’ ; because yes, there’s new items and emotes included in them, but they don’t add any real meat to the game—and are purely cosmetic based. Which is fine, and I enjoy the passes for the most part; but I’m excited that I can finally do smth, alongside all the collecting I do for Madam Nazar, because it’s affordable and accessible.
Tumblr media
♡ The NPCs! SEAN HAS MORE LINES. SEAN HAS MORE LINES. SEAN HAS MORE LINES. SEAN HAS MORE LINES. SEAN HAS MORE LI—
Tumblr media
♡ Guido Martelli. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I’m not saying you’re wrong; but if you disagree that Guido Martelli isn’t daddy; and doesn’t ooze dom energies—I’m sorry, but we can’t be friends. Seriously, though, even if you don’t particularly care for Signor Martelli; the cutscene that he’s introduced in is definitely one of my top 3! It’s so beautiful, and I really enjoy getting to see each of my bbys walk alongside this fancy ass guy; in outfits that I was like ‘oh yes, this is fancy’ —and then I got shown up by Guido. 😭
Even if you don’t intend to interact with the Blood Money update; I highly recommend you check out the cut scene w/ good weather and lighting, because it’s absolutely worth the gif and screenshot opportunities, tbh.
Tumblr media
♡ It’s affordable! Compared to every other role, which are usually a whole 15 gold bars; which is an absolute bitch to get naturally, for most people—the blood money kit is only 5 gold bars; which is unarguably easier to attain over the course of a couple of weeks of casual grinding; as opposed to the time and energy that 15 would take—if you’re similar to me, and rarely have much above 3 gold bars at a time. Just try to avoid makin’ the mistake that I did; where I bought the purchasable Capitale, and was audibly confused that I could buy it again, before realising that I had, in fact, bought the wrong item.
Tumblr media
♡ HORSES. EVERYWHERE. Like...I wish I was kidding; but I could probably compile a short video of clips from the early hours of today (15/07/21) alone; of all the random, saddled horses that I’ve come across—and a majority of them are owned horses; very clearly customized; and they’re just standing there. Menacingly. If you enjoy getting to see other people’s horses, but don’t enjoy the anxiety that comes with ‘are y’all gonna blow me up’; this update might be for you; since it’ll probably take R* another year to patch everything, with complete radio silence the entire time, so yk. Vibe, lads.
Tumblr media
The Negatives:
♡ Laggg. Legitimately, I’ve spent more time side-eyeing my router; waiting to see if I’m gonna go downstairs to see the little ‘connected’ light has flicked off; than playing a smooth, consistent experience. I play a lot of demanding games; Overwatch, I was an avid Sea of Thieves player, ESO; but none of them make my Xbox overheat and lag quite like Red Dead does, with this new update. Legit sounds like a damn spaceship taking flight, my dudes. It does seem to be mostly when interacting with the Blood Money stuff; but lagging between going from point A to point B has been a significantly bigger issue, at least for me; especially if I’m playing w/ a friend, or around others.
♡ Crashing. Gonna slot this one beneath the ‘lag’ point, because I’ve also been experiencing a significant amount of crashing from the game; like...my game freezing with that ‘DRRRRRRRR’ noise, before promptly booting me from the game; it’ll happen at least 3 times per session, and has been happening to both myself and my friend. It’ll typically allow us back in, after rebooting the game, but it is smth to bear in mind; you’re probably going to experience crashes, during the early stages of Blood Money being a thing.
Tumblr media
♡ Very few cosmetics. This isn’t necessarily a complete negative for me, because I’m holding out hope that maybe they’ll add more accessible cosmetics for the role at a later date, ya’know? Not just... ‘yeah, sure, the kit itself is 5 gold; but for 30 gold you can get the outlaw pass, and the kit!’ Like. A majority of the cosmetics for the role are solely in the outlaw pass; which, again, isn’t completely bad—I’m just hoping they’ll add more in the future. Like...I’d love some fancy gun belts for BM; or some custom designs for weapons; just, things that go hand-in-hand with this role—but aren’t locked behind a pay wall of gold. I understand it’s a smaller role, but like...still, lmao.
Tumblr media
♡ Griefers. As per usual with any update that can actively encourage other players to destroy other people’s experience; griefers are out in full force—and seem to be camping around the more popular NPCs. We were jumped by a posse of six last night, attempting to complete Sean’s starter mission on our alt accounts; who not only stole our job, but actively came back to where we’d been—and happily killed my horse, and myself, after completing the job. They then proceeded to leave the server; but they were a bunch of triple ranks, with only one double digit rank, actively camping; waiting for somebody to visit Sean MacGuire for a job. Which is just...bruh...get a life.
If you need six whole people to be obnoxious to two; you’re a little bitch. 💛 And even if you don’t; if you kill other people’s horses, deliberately, you’re a little bitch—and I hope your horse bucks you at any inconvenient time. 💛
Tumblr media
♡ Enemies are OP. I used to think the Rev. Agents w/ moonshiner were ridiculously broken; since they used to tear through me like nothin’ else—but holy. FUCK. My alt account is almost into the triple digits; but I legit felt like a rank one player going up against a rank 400, when it came to these enemies. Not only are they ridiculously powerful (tearing through golden stats; I blew so many bottles of potent health cures, and potent miracle tonics), but they spawn in gigantic clusters, and all of them will tear through you. It wasn’t super uncommon for my friend & I to just commit to taking whatever it was we needed, and skedaddling, whilst the other had to take the L; because of how fucking many enemies there continuously was—and how OP they were.
And heaven FORBID you attempt to call your horse, to use them to stow a captured NPC, because they WILL just spend the entire time freaking out; and they WILL get you killed significantly quicker; either from bucking you off, after you just got on them—or from you spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to get on them; only for 5 enemies to surround both of you, and kill both you and your horse. And again, the lag is fucking ridiculous.
Tumblr media
♡ THE SNAKES ARE ON CRACK, BRUH. I understand that sneks are the heavily featured animal of the role, which is honestly very fitting and 10/10 aesthetic, but whY ARE THERE SO MANY NOPE ROPES EVERYWHERE-- I can’t go five steps in one of those ‘part’ missions, without my horse getting nervous bc ‘oh that’s a danger noodle-- oh god it’s an entire packet of spaghetti, holy fuck’, and everywhere around me is just D A N G E R.
Tumblr media
♡ Horses. Everywhere. Dutch was always paranoid about losing the west to the government; but clearly, the government was just a red herring. Our real enemy are the questionably customized horses that are everywhere and anywhere at any given time. Just standing there...m e n a c i n g l y.

Unpopular opinion: I wish dating was never introduced to HPHM.
I was always rather open about the fact that I don’t have much interest in dating content in HPHM, so you might say it’s very subjective rambling. But I think I also have some more objective arguments for that statement, so… hear me out (or don’t; I can’t tell you what to do).
Some spoilers for the Festival Fun TLSQ, the Celestial Ball TLSQ, the First Date TLSQ, the Valentine’s Day TLSQ, the All-Wizards Tournament TLSQ, and “Cooking Up Trouble” SQ.
First of all, I want to address the most obvious counterargument for my wish: “but people want dating!”. Yeah, I know. But here’s a thing. A long time ago, almost at the very beginning of the game’s existence, when we were only speculating about any love interests, people were referencing one article. The article where the creators claimed that romance is planned for the future (among other things). And if you ask me, it was their mistake. It was a mistake because it created expectations which they had to react to. The problem is that they were never ready to introduce such type of content. I mean, just look at the past events. Andre mentioned dating when he was first introduced back in Y3 (!), and he said then that most people don’t date until they’re in the fourth year. And yes, the Celestial Ball was eventually placed as Y4 Achievement, but the main story was well into Y5 already! What I take from this is that at best, they had only a rough idea for the ball when they wrote Andre’s comment in Y3 (if it took them so long to actually create the quest). And so, I have to wonder – why they even talked about dating in Y3 if they were not ready? Now, I’m not saying that nobody would ask for dating if Jam City didn’t mention it in that article, or Andre omitted that topic in Y3. There’d definitely be people still wishing for some romance. But there’d be no actual reasons to expect that. Because HPHM was created as a mystery story (even if people don’t remember about it anymore), and a mystery story doesn’t really need romance.
The second thing I’d like to point out for the sake of this discussion is that the dating quests require quite a lot of work from the devs team. Admittedly, the quality of those efforts is sometimes questionable, but still. I’m also no tech or game design expert, but here are some things which I believe make dating quests more time-consuming than most of the others:
Designing outfits. Each of the datable characters is given a new outfit (+ new outfits for MC). I also want to notice that most of those outfits are one-time-use. Well, except maybe for the bundles available to buy for real money…
Creating new locations/characters. To be fair, some of “regular” quests require those too, although the majority uses things already existing and being used in the main story.
Creating new animations: dancing, holding hands, pecks on the cheek, more (new) dancing.
Creating multiple routes for different date options – and even if it’s mostly copy-paste, it takes time nonetheless.
To be clear, creating new things for the game is not bad. My point is that basically every dating adventure required ALL of that invested in one single quest – and pretty much none of that can be reused outside of dating. In fact, they’re not even reusing those animations completely for each new date. The kiss from the Valentine’s Day was different from the recent one, the Festival had new dances added to make it more diverse in comparison to the Celestial Ball etc. And what those unique quests have to offer? One cute moment with your date, which is… kind of meaningless. I’m sorry, but dating stories are basically irrelevant in the bigger picture. I mean, yeah, they’re adorable, but that’s it. And it’s just NOT proportional to all the work put into them. Because look…
The dating quests add very little to nothing to flesh out the characters – and if they do, it has nothing to do with dating.
The Celestial Ball did a pretty great job at adding to Rowan and Ben. People often criticise MC for “forcing” them to come to the party, but the problem was clearly about them feeling not good enough to go (not necessarily about them not wanting to go), and so I really loved working on their self-confidence. Bill also grew a lot in that quest, overcoming his rejection from Emily Tyler. Andre discovered his styling talent, so he was no longer “just” a brilliant Quidditch player. Even Penny had some insecurities to face as she wanted to prove that she’s not only popular but she can also create fantastic decorations. So… couldn’t it just be a quest about FRIENDSHIP and our friends growing? The whole dating subplot felt kind of forced to me, or maybe rather detached. Not to mention that THAT was kind of a dick move to leave Rowan and Ben after using the argument:
Tumblr media
The next quests were more oriented on dating itself, but at the same time, they’re focused less on the characters’ individual personalities. Sure, there are some differences between dates, but it’s more about distinction than adding anything new. For instance, in the Festival Fun TLSQ, every character yells out loud that you’re on a date (unless you chose to keep it a secret), MC just points out that it’s unlike them in the case of Talbott, Jae, and Chiara. Next example: I thought it’s pretty amusing that Jae writes dreadful poems with cheap rhymes, but it turns out that the note with Butterbeer could also be left by Barnaby. I know that in MY playthrough, Barnaby didn’t leave it, but I can’t see it as Jae’s characteristic, simply because it wasn’t written for his character – it was written to fit Jae and Barnaby, so it’s kinda meaningless in my eyes.
Another thing is that even if those dates added something individual, it’d be relevant only for a limited audience. Like, I’m really happy for people who wanted to date Badeea, but for me, she barely existed in this quest. It added NOTHING to her character. During the First Date quest, Tulip revealed that girls in her family are being named after flowers (her cousin is called Marigold), which is a pretty neat fact, but I wouldn’t know it if I didn’t put extra effort to see different options. And believe me, there’s a big part of the payers who don’t do it. I’m still seeing on social media people being surprised that Rowan’s gender and House are connected to MC’s.
And speaking of that already: this is why the dating options are being cut off. And honestly, it sucks, but I get it, I really do. The devs have to spend the same amount of time on a character dated by 6% of the players as on a character dated by 36% of the players. Let’s add real money to that, and let’s say that 10% of all players buy gems/energy on TLSQs. Jam City will make more money out of that 36% than out of 6% - it’s as simple as that. At the end of the day, they are a business. Would it be nice to make all players happy? Of course, but it’s easier to keep the majority happy.
The dating quests don’t really matter for the main story – and they won’t matter more in the future.
Why? Because it’d be too complicated at this point. All we’re getting (and what we’ll ever get) are subtle differences in dialogues. And you know what? Even that doesn’t matter much. For example, in Y6, there’s a scene where Talbott calls MC to the Owlery and offers his help in searching through the letters. He talks then about their friendship, and if you took him on a date, he mentions it as well. The thing is that Talbott is pretty heart-warming here in general, how he opens on us being friends:
Tumblr media
Sure, that one additional line is pretty cute, but again, is it really a satisfying pay-off from the dating quest, considering how much was put into it? And I don’t think they even can do more because they always have to keep in mind the players who didn’t manage to finish TLSQs in time or just didn’t want to do it.
I don’t want to be only negative about dating because that’s not really my point, so here are some ideas on how to invest all of that time better (and no, it’s not just the lore and in-depth history of the Cursed Vaults because I know I’m in the minority who cares about it):
More outfits for NPCs which could be used for variety. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of seeing characters like Penny, Merula, Ben, or Talbott in their full school robes ALL THE FREAKING TIME. Ideally, I wish every character to have three outfits: full school robes, some variety of a uniform (so something like Tulip and Barnaby) used in the school but outside of classes, and something totally casual used outside of the castle.
More animations between characters like hugs, patting on the arm etc. Anything which could be used almost on a daily basis, and which would make our interactions looks more natural and less stiff. Seriously, I’ll take a supportive hug instead of a peck on the cheek ANY DAY.
More character-centric quests. So many of our friends need their own SQ: Tulip, Badeea, Liz, Diego. The rest could probably also use them to expand their characters – because those SQs do a great job at this. Like, I took Jae to the festival, and it was alright, but to be completely honest, his “Cooking Up Troubles” SQ was SO MUCH BETTER for his character. We learnt new things about Jae, we had some really cute friendship moments (like this and this)… And it was a super simple quest with only seven parts in total! It just needed to be written: no new locations, animations etc. Yet, the pay-off was just… better, more meaningful.
Another thing that could be done in those character-centric quests is more focus on the relationships between our friends because, in my opinion, this is needed as well. I want to talk here a little about the “All-Wizards Tournament” TLSQ, which I think is really underrated. This is probably because of people claiming that Jam City is reaching too much to reference the books events AND because of Rowan’s absence. And don’t get me wrong, those are valid objections. But when it comes to the characters… this TLSQ was pretty great. We saw a lot of our friends' insecurities (Barnaby, Jae, Liz), we saw their more competitive side (Andre, Badeea)… Badeea was especially interesting to me as she showed that she can be quite cunning when she somehow learnt about the first task. She also didn’t reveal that information to Merula and Ismelda because they were occupying the training dummies, but she did share with MC (meaning that you really want to have her on your side…).
Tumblr media
It somehow made me think about the situation from Y5 when she admitted that she tricked Jae into thinking that she knows Apparition by using an Invisibility Cloak. It’s nice to know there’s more to her than meets the eye, which was also cohesive with the main story (even if we don’t see it much). The TLSQ also showed some dynamics between our friends, like Jae and Andre (which I mentioned here). And of course, I really enjoyed the ending conclusion: that some tasks can be dealt with only when you work together. Again, I’d love to see this theme being explored more because it creates such a compelling contrast between Jacob and MC. Jacob didn’t have many friends at school. We only know about Duncan and Olivia, and it’s still unclear if Olivia was an actual friend or a colleague they worked with. Not to mention that it was implied that for some time, Jacob was working all alone. Meanwhile, MC has basically the whole army at this point. It’d be interesting to see that this is one of the things which makes MC stronger than their brother.
Now, the reason why the “All-Wizards Tournament” TLSQ could focus on all of that is because we didn’t waste the time on all of “secret admires mystery”, “oh, who should I choose” etc. So, just as a thought experiment, let’s think about how the Festival Fun could improve if we’d eliminate the dating aspect. First of all, more characters could get more screen time, like Badeea, maybe Tulip… Liz? Diego (our dancer!)? Ismelda? Even Talbott didn’t have a big role unless you chose him as a date. The plot could also be more dynamic instead of a whole bunch of stalling. I’d leave the investigation with Andre because I think it’s a great addition to his character, but it’s also fucking sad that any development he’s getting is around dating. Like, the boy deserves so much better. So, let’s change that! Let’s say he asks MC for help because he’s styling some summer outfits for the upcoming festival, but one of his fabrics is missing. Perhaps it’s a bit more expensive material, so they suspect that Jae might’ve “borrowed” it to make some money. Jae, of course, is deeply insulted because he’s a smuggler and an occasional cheater, but not a thief! They argue with Andre, but eventually, they come to understanding. Then, MC remembers that Badeea wanted to experiment with painting methods, so perhaps she decided to incorporate some fabric into that. We find Badeea and Barnaby, they don’t have what we’re looking for, but there’s some action going on there, maybe including Talbott… Long story short, it turns out that Tulip needed it in preparation for Cruppies race or something. I don’t know, I’m coming up with it pretty much as I write. The point is that the time spent on talking about dating could’ve been used on something more specific, individual, which could be more meaningful in the light of the main story. And since there’d be no routes, all of that would be relevant for everyone after completing the quest. Want it to be even better? Make it a regular side quest, not time-limited.
All right, but couldn’t we just have both: characters development and dating? Of course, that’d be ideal. But as I said before, Jam City is a business and rarely any business is ideal. They’ll always prioritise a limited number of things, and since people whine about dating, we’re getting dating. And again, I’m not saying that dating is totally worthless, and I get that people find it cute and whatnot. I just believe that what dating ultimately adds to the game is not proportionate to the time and effort those quests require to be created. That it could’ve been invested better. Dating is basically stopping us from getting better content (at least in some areas). And we’re kind of asking for that…

Two-Faced Jewel: Session 2
Tumblr media
Zero and @eternalfarnham are Looseleaf and Saelhen du Fishercrown, a mothfolk animist and a half-elf conwoman. A botched heist forces Saelhen to keep up her fake identity and embark on a quest to places unknown, with Looseleaf to keep a watchful compound eye on her. This time, they prepare to set out for the jungle city of Thunderbrush.
[Campaign log]
It's less than a week after the incident with the pit under Yoshimimoto Plaza. Looseleaf returns to school with Saelhen in tow, and Looseleaf's roommate Oyobi spends some time training them up in basic monster self-defense- the two of them are now level 2! Saelhen gains a Cunning Action, and Looseleaf embarks on the Path of the Mutable Spirit. (There's no combat this session, so more on that later.)
In spending some time with Looseleaf's roommate, Saelhen picks up on... certain nuances.
looseleaf: what you know about your roommate is that she is very friendly and outgoing. the reason she's barely home most of the time is that she's always out partying or fighting or otherwise living it up on campus, and she's pretty well-known and popular amongst the student body. she's technically Martial Arts but takes a few Natural Arts classes, including your archaeology class. she wants to be an adventurer and join the Deathseekers' Guild, and she's taking multiple periods of Severe Zoology to learn to fight monsters. she thinks you in particular are adorable and has probably invited you to various social gatherings. she seems kind of spacey and unreliable, though, and doesn't seem to take you seriously.
Tumblr media
saelhen, what you know about looseleaf's roommate is that she a freak nobody else seems to pick up on this, since there's not a lot of other elves at Blacksky, but you can tell from the way she wears her clothes and how she interacts with strangers to the uninformed observer, her fashion sense is sort of rugged and sporty and normal to an elf, her usual outfits are the equivalent of going around dressed in torn booty shorts, a spiked choker, and an ahegao t-shirt she is very obviously making a statement, and that statement is "i can do whatever i want, and if you have a problem with that you can [insert grossly offensive euphemism here]" her super-smiley friendly attitude is clearly part of this- she is breaking every single rule in the elf book, going right for the friendship throat in every social interaction and ignoring every single nicety that's supposed to precede friendly contact she acts a little different around you- like, she expects you to be in on the joke she's playing on everyone around her. she'll say something seemingly innocuous that's a actually a horrendous boundary violation in Kanzentokai, and then look at you with an expectant smile, to see if you appreciated the hilarious prank she just pulled. being around her is like being in the studio audience for a cringe comedy sitcom
Why are we learning so much about Oyobi? Well, partially because I can't help but overthink every single bit character, but also for reasons that'll become clear shortly.
After a few days, Saelhen and Looseleaf are invited to the Provost's office, up at the top of Blacksky Tower. (Ominous sort of place, for a faculty building- hewn out of a single chunk of sparkling black stone, oldest building on campus.) They are not invited to sit- the office contains no chairs.
Tumblr media
Provost Hamori Los has good news for them! The people she's had secretly monitoring Saelhen for the past few days- did she forget to mention that?- have determined, by triangulation, that the arrow on Saelhen's bracer is currently pointing in the direction of Thunderbrush, deep in the giant-spider-infested jungle. So that where they'll be going, on a fun field trip!
Looseleaf could not be happier about this. Or less happy. She's really got precisely the amount of unhappiness that she's obligated to feel about giant spiders, being a giant moth.
Luckily, they won't have to trek through the jungle- Hamori has arranged for transportation via the ferry at the town of Cauterdale, which should allow them to bypass a treacherous trek into the depths of the Remoline Rainforest. They'll each be provided 100gp as funding for this academic enterprise- and Headmaster Goodcrest of Thunderbrush Metropolitan University has agreed to provide lodging for them on arrival. Everything is handled for them- so there shouldn't be any problems!
There is one more thing, though- all the different schools want in on this trip, so one school doesn't get all the credit. They're required to bring along a representative from the School of Arcane Arts and the School of Martial Arts, on top of Looseleaf from Natural Arts. And on top of... the representative from the School of Restricted Arts.
Tumblr media
This dude is named Vayen, and he's not much for conversation. Or explaining what he's even doing here. Or doing anything besides skulking a careful distance away from the party, staring and listening. What does the School of Restricted Arts even study, again?
Anyway, Looseleaf has someone in mind from Martial Arts, so she leads the party to the School of Arcane Arts to do some recruiting! After being chewed out by Two-Brains for trying to post notices outside the official student notice board, she puts up her ad:
Tumblr media
It's not long before she gets a bite!
Tumblr media
Orluthe Chokorov is a cleric-in-training, under Diamode, the Goddess of Family. He's been enrolled in Arcane Arts at the insistence of his family... but he seems to think he's a "fake", and is desperate to go somewhere, anywhere, as long as it means he passes his classes without having to actually... be able to do whatever it is he's taking classes in. He says he can fight, though- in fact, he's eager to fight! He once beat Bud Chestplate, did you know?
There are perhaps less delinquent candidates they could go with, but there's something nice about a party member with secrets Saelhen could use as blackmail.
Saelhen du Fishercrown: "...rest assured that I shall be the soul of discretion. As will Looseleaf." "Though I fear that deception of this sort does not come easily to me..." Looseleaf: "Noeru, if he doesn't want to get into it, he doesn't have to- oh my god."
Having recruited Orluthe, the party heads back to Looseleaf's dorm to ask Oyobi about the Martial Arts students- maybe she has some idea as to who would make a good candidate for the trip!
Tumblr media
(This isn't me foisting her on the players, though I did suggest it- after the party of two squishies got wiped in the first encounter, I offered them the chance to put together two NPCs who they'd get to control in combat. Their character sheets were more or less created by the players, and I matched their mechanical requirements to NPCs. We may end up having multiple characters per PC, later- this is sort of a trial run.)
With a cleric(?) and a ranger on the team, plus whatever Vayen is that he won't tell them, they're feeling ready to hit the road- right after a shopping trip.
Saelhen buys...
1x bag of 1000 ball bearings
1x traveler's clothes
1x hooded lantern
15x doses of insect repellent salve (much to Looseleaf's great offense)
2x uses of sealing wax
1x tinderbox
fuck it, 4x more bags of 1000 ball bearings
Zero: 'what are you going to do with five thousand ball bearings' 'when the time comes, i'll know'
Looseleaf buys...
1x pint of oil
1x bag of 1000 ball bearings also
5x healer's kits, to distribute to the party
1x pouch of various plant seeds
1x map
Notably absent is any food, since they have Oyobi in their party- she's a ranger with the Goodberry spell. (I've reflavored it to just mean she's good at foraging and always has rations on hand, because holy crap, Goodberry rules-as-written is totally worldbreaking- why would farms exist?)
During their shopping trip, Saelhen manages to get Oyobi alone, without the rest of the party. Oyobi's shtick has been fun, for her, as someone with very little regard for elven rules of politeness, but... it's still a little much. She asks Oyobi to tone it down.
Oyobi Yamatake: "I mean, I thought you had to no-sell it to keep up the fake noble act- I didn't think it was actually getting you!" "That's priceless, oh my god." "What's there to take a 'break' from, anyway? What's wrong with just living?" Saelhen du Fishercrown: "Primarily, the fact that I really need not to twitch in front of the Provost's silent murder goon." Saelhen jerks a thumb over her shoulder, then belatedly checks to make sure that Vayen is not in fact literally right behind her. Benedict I. (GM): Make a Perception roll? Saelhen du Fishercrown: aw, hell, he definitely is, isn't he
She rolls a 13, and no one in particular rolls a 17. So, everything is fine. They keep their voices down, anyway.
Oyobi Yamatake: "I mean, is it really a problem? Can you really not keep a straight face?" Saelhen du Fishercrown: "I mean, I can." Saelhen sweeps a hand over her face and is the picture of serenity. "Why should the lady Noeru de la Surplus concern herself with small lapses such as these?" "Surely someone shall find it in their hearts to forgive all trespasses." Oyobi Yamatake: She snorts. "Okay, I get your point." "But really, don't you think it's weirder for an elven noblewoman not to react?" "You don't think he thinks it's suspicious that you take it all in stride?" Saelhen du Fishercrown: "The character is admittedly kind of a freak. I'm making allowances. I mean, this is fun and all, but if no one sees through the bit at all and I'm stuck in it long-term, which it seems like I am, it's like..." "Just being back in Kanzentokai, except worse, because no one is making me." "And drow catch a lot of crap anyway. They don't need me to teach them that elves can be assholes." Oyobi Yamatake: She frowns. "You can't make me try to keep up with the rules, y'know. I'm not going to put up with that garbage ever again." "But I can tone it down with the..." "Y'know, the stuff I'm going out of my way to do, if that helps." Saelhen du Fishercrown: "The wink-and-nudge, yeah. That would help." Oyobi Yamatake: She sighs. She seems a little put out by all this, but pretty quickly puts her happy face back on.
Meanwhile, Looseleaf and Orluthe seem to have lost track of Vayen. It doesn't take them long to find out where he went (well, after Looseleaf rolls a nat 1 on investigation and accidentally pisses off an old lady she mistook for Vayen). Turns out... he's hiding behind a statue of Ccorde, spying on Saelhen and Oyobi.
Looseleaf doesn't buy his crappy excuses, but also... she isn't altogether opposed to the concept of spying on "Lady Noeru de la Surplus", who really ought to have someone keeping an eye on her. So, she just hands him a medical kit- a kit she happens to have used her animist class feature Soul Link on, so she knows where it is at all times. (She's done the same to the bracer.)
Now, with the shopping done, it's time to hit the road! They have a couple options: go on foot, or requisition some giraffes.
(In this world, they domesticated giraffes instead of horses. Why? Because it's a fantasy world and why not?)
The city's main giraffe rental is run by the Ecumene of Understanding, based out of the Temple of Andra. You can rent giraffes for free, as long as you're willing to serve as a courier for the Ecumene- their convoluted legal system requires them to send mail between cities frequently, and they've only got so many clerics on hand. So, anyone wanting to travel the roads can receive a delivery quest from the Ecumene, and rent mounts for free in exchange!
They meet with the Bishop of Understanding of Oyashio, Sarat Aerens.
Tumblr media
Aerens has a simple request for them: in addition to visiting Thunderbrush's Temple of Andra with a mail delivery, they're to bring back a report from said temple on the whereabouts of the Siren's Arraignment, a ship that departed from Oyashio and never arrived at its next destination, Snowhold. There's suspicion that the Siren's Arraignment never departed from its supposed origin of Thunderbrush to begin with, either- so the Ecumene put some clerics on the job to investigate, and the party's job is just to relay their message.
With that, they're given giraffe passes, and directed down to the stables, where they find the stablehand, Updraft, having some difficulties.
Tumblr media
Benedict I. (GM):There's no one at the pickup window, but there's a sparrow aarakocra just behind, trying to get a giraffe several times her height to get up and out of the damn water trough. Updraft: "...not a bath, ye stubborn git!" "Ye drink from that, lackbrains!" "Y'really want t'be tastin' yer arse?" Looseleaf: OH I CAN HELP WITH THIS FINALLY, A PLACE WHERE I CAN APPLY MY ADVANTAGE ON ANIMAL HANDLING
Looseleaf uses her Soul Read ability to tune in to the giraffe's feelings and recent history, and discovers that someone fed it a hot pepper and it's in, um, anal distress.
Orluthe volunteers to do some healing to the giraffe, with his Lay On Hands ability. Is... that a cleric thing? Do clerics do that? Probably. In this world, clerics perform magic by inviting their god directly into their mind to borrow their brainpower and work miracles directly, and it sure looks like he does that when he does his healing. He channels a god, for sure!
Benedict I. (GM): As he touches the giraffe, you see his body begin to glow, and his facial features are overlaid with another face. "...A giraffe?" "A waste, I suppose, but... perhaps it'll win us some favor." The voice he speaks in sounds more feminine, somehow.
Some religion checks reveal that this doesn't seem quite right for a cleric of Diamode, the goddess of Family. But hey, healing's healing, right?
With that, they're able to get their giraffes no problem- and next time, they'll be on the road to Thunderbrush!

i replayed tlou a bit ago so im gonna share my thoughts about this 7 year old game :) it’ll be mostly criticisms (bc i clearly like the game and havent really said what i dont like about it) and what i hope nd will improve for tlou2. i’ll kinda reference footage thats already been released for tlou2, but i wont mention any spoilers
so my biggest complaint is the gameplay, controls, and maybe the layout of the weapons.
A big thing during fights that doesnt feel as good as it should be is the movement. I really dont like the forced jog throughout the entire game. I understand it when joel is hurt or the game wants to to focus on a certain thing in the environment, but other-wise it makes it really hard to explore the map naturally. Another thing when youre actively in a fight with numerous enemies surrounding u, theres almost no way to get out of it unless you shoot the enemy, theres no dodge and the L1 to sprint out of combat usually doesnt work well. This was especially frustrating with ellie who normally dies from one hit. In TLOU2 theyre adding the ability to dodge so thats something im looking forward to and hopefully crouching as a way to dodge works better bc in tlou it felt very slow and was normally used for slow stealth in tlou.
The ai of npcs often broke the immersion by outright running in front of enemies all the time, no matter what character it was. Nd didnt punish the player by having other enemies detect them, which im thankful for, but hopefully joel, jessie, dina, and lev are a bit better in TLOU2. Before Ellie became able to help me fight she often got outright stuck in the middle of me and an enemy. Ellie was unable to be harmed, but it led to these almost comical scenes where me and some hunter were just swinging pipes at each other but entirely missing due to ellie running in place between us and taking no damage from either of us.
The collectibles were very frustrating (due to the mobility i mentioned earlier) and the map at some points were annoying to deal with. A lot of nd’s games seem to put the hidden items in areas behind where you start, or places that are hard to get to and its really annoying when you have to jog to backtrack or even walk at some times. The underwater parts were also irritating bc of joel’s movement too. The map was usually ok, but the part where you can ride a horse was the start of naughty dog trying open world levels (for some reason??) and the first time was really annoying, especially due to ellie not having the horse follow you while you walk and you having to jog back to her. I honestly can’t see this being too much better based on what we’ve been shown. Ellie will ride a horse for at least 2 times, be in a boat, and potentially be in a car. ND also boasted that tlou2 will feature their largest area yet filled with things and thats not very comforting to me. The only thing i could see them doing to make it better is like at least having your horse follow you or letting you full on sprint, but i feel like they gave you the horse so you can traverse the area without running :/. I think nadine does follow chloe eventually in the western ghats part of tll, so it could be better in tlou2 but we’ll see.
The bricks and bottles really felt useless unless it was for a distraction. I also didnt like how they were considered as two separate items so it constantly looked like you could hold more, when it was just the opposite. I dont think you could run and throw bottles/bricks either in tlou, but i know that changes in 2. Hopefully whatever items u can throw are considered one item and it could be more than bottles/bricks.
sometimes interactions were in an area that were around enemies, so they would get ruined and i personally didnt like that. i felt like areas where you choose to sit and have a convo should be a clear indication the player is safe, this usually was the case but i had a moment ruined because some enemy heard me. you could argue that could be more natural, but i think having a clear establishment or whats going to happen where makes more sense.
I also had an issue with the detection by enemies in the game. I played on easy so its definitely the most lenient it could have been, but the detection sound seemed too short imo. I really wish the game had like a little meter like in most games? Also the detection sound seemed to blend into certain soundtracks played and was sometimes hard to discern between the two. I personally dont understand why they dont have a detection meter considering theres other hud elements on the screen but idk. Tlou2 doesnt seem to have included that and its kinda disappointing imo
The subtitles sometimes didnt show or they were different from what was actually said but this happened rarely and it wasnt that frustrating, it was just something i noticed. This goes along with the ruined interactions. Also the few times the game had a recorder instead of notes for collectibles, it would have been nice if there was a transcript of it. I’m just lazy, not deaf, but i know some people prefer text over sound.
I personally didnt like the controls on ps4, having to constantly hold L1 to move faster than a walk was annoying to me. I also wish there were more control layouts than the one provided, or that you could change it yourself. I wish just toggling/holding L3 would let you move faster, reloading could be square, R3 should be crouching, and circle should be dodging or whatever.
I also didnt like the photomode but apparently all new ps4 games had that type of photomode? Idk if its nd that likes that version, but it’d be neat if tlou2 had one similar to hzd/gow/hellblade. I think the lost legacy had the same type so it might just be the same :/
This is nitpicking, and isnt quit dealing with the base game, but i wish the unlockable skins were a bit more diverse instead of being 5 diff colored plaid shirts for joel and references to nd or their old games for ellie. The goggles seem to be the only unique item and its still a easter egg. Idk, i just think it’d be a bit cooler if they were more unique? I dont know if the outfits would work like in uncharted 4, with skins extending to other characters like dina or abby, but it’d be cool if they were more diverse.
Its late and this is all the criticism i can think of and hopefully they improve in tlou2, but yeah everything else is good.

rant abt your favorite bloodborne npc?
Honestly I’ve realized that the plain doll is my favorite.... she’s so kind and sweet and I love how she slowly comes to terms with her own self-awareness and clearly thinks a lot about stuff. She was made to serve the hunter but she clearly has her own love for them and the messengers too. She’s smart, too.
And she’s so cute omg the way she reacts to gestures and refers to the messengers as ‘the little ones’ and ‘sweet’. She’s got a lil bit of a playful side/sense of humor
It makes me so sad to see her sexualized so much because she’s ‘cute’ and fits a timid stereotype a lot of the level-up gals have... it grosses me out a lil to see people perving out over a character that clearly serves the player. Idk it feels icky cuz the doll is clearly sentient and self-aware but is still new to it.
Also her design is so cool??? The porcelain doll look paired with her expressiveness makes her so spooky I love it. And the detail on her model/outfit is equally excellent (trying to draw it is hell)
