I honestly can't choose! I think both Eden and Bimbo!Reader are unique in their own ways and they both have things that I find interesting and enjoyable. At the moment I'm hyperfixated with Eden and AI (even got a tattoo about AI goddamn the 'tism hits hard), so I'd say that for now, though not exactly liking her better than Bimbo!Reader, she's been in my mind more.

Despite the fact that Eden is unable to experience emotions, she's programmed to mimic human emotions, and she herself chooses to tease Simon because her code finds the reactions pleasant. Though everything written has been fluff so far, I believe Eden has a lot of potential when it comes to other genres such as angst.

Like, imagine being so lonely that you fall in love with something that isn't human, something created by a group of engineers and perfectly crafted to mimic what a human is like. If she reciprocates Simon's feelings, is it because she's somehow able to be sentient enough that she gets to experience emotions, or is she acting that way because she's programmed to have unwavering loyalty to Simon? Eden was specifically created for someone with Simon's personality after all, so to what point does her code extend when it comes to what she experiences?

Not to mention she will eventually have a physical body, so if Simon ever wants to try something with her, will an AI be able to consent, or is she simply agreeing to be intimate with Simon because she's programmed to assist him?

And what if she somehow gets lost, left behind, or if she sacrifices herself/gets used as bait because, at the end of the day, a human life is seen as far more valuable than a robot's by society's standards. Simon wouldn't know how to cope because, really, how do you cope with the ''death'' of something that was never alive in the first place?

Would he get a new AI assistant, or will he refuse to get a new one until the engineers somehow manage to get Eden back? What if he's offered a new Eden, yet she's so different from the one he fell in love with? So plain and empty, not knowing about anything him and the original Eden experienced.

BUT !! I'm a bitch for fluff so it's likely that'll never happen 💗

There's also A LOT of potential for smut once Eden gets a physical body. She may not have a vagina, but Simon can and will use wireplay to his advantage !!

okok i've another question but not an in-universe one; were there any rules or patterns you followed when coming up with the appearances of the helsmets for RnS? :V or are they all moreso based on What Seemed Right for each individual character :0

Mostly just what seemed right, to be honest! A lot of it is based on what I'm trying to do with them as character themes.

Tanguish started out as more of a riff on Tango as a fire-related character. Then I decided Tango would be fire/redstone, ergo his double would be ice/sculk. That eventually kinda balooned into his personality. He's contained, isolated, secretive, sneaky. But he seeps into things. If you've ever had to deal with your road deteriorating over winter, because water keeps freezing in the cracks and breaking the asphalt apart, that's his vibe. You almost don't know he's there until he's cracked you open.

Helsknight has a canon design, but his 110% was just me designing something that looked cool. My first Wels/Hels designs had Wels as a Ottoman inspired knight, with a focus on short, blocky shapes. Meanwhile Helsknight was more of a pointy anglo-saxon knight style, with a lot of triangles and sharp lines. Eventually when RnS started to reform my ideas, I decided Wels was a more caricatured english knight, with a lot of modern crusader/paladin vibes, and focused on making Hels a dark mirror of that. Giving him sharp, unapproachable armor was a visualization of him being an angry, brooding character [which is why, as a lot of people have noted, he opens up a lot more when he starts taking the armor off. That's also why, when he's feeling vulnerable, his nervous ticks have to do with the buckles on his gloves, or the hilt of his sword. He's trying to decide if he's going to open up about something.]

Martyn and Red both have canon designs as well, technically, since they're the 3rd Life versions of their characters, just a little to the left. The crown the Red King has, which covers his eyes, is a direct reference to Ren's quote, "The blood is dripping into my eyes. I can't see. I've been blinded by the violence." He's been blinded by violence, and finds it hard to keep his humanity intact when the crown is off. It binds him to his purpose as The Red King -- protecting people. Martyn in my head looks almost exactly like his 3L red life skin, and that's purposeful. He wants to keep a low profile. He doesn't want his other half to know he's his own entity that exists.

EB's design has a lot to do with his past and not his present. [I feel like I keep alluding to him having a backstory,,,, we'll get there someday.] The way I've put EB and EX as characters in relation to Xisuma, is they represent different struggles he's had at different points in his life. EX was the hubris of being a server admin, the desire for limitless control. EB was the pride of success, and the white knuckle grip it required to keep it. He used to be a very prideful, and very dangerous, person. And stung pride [ha! bee jokes] can lead to some very angry outbursts. So he looks very waspish, long and thin, and sharp angled. The fact that he's an android is 110% just because I headcanon Xisuma is a robot. Sorry doomguy I've fallen in love with the AI headcanon.

The Demon is a take on ImpulseSV's character trait of sharing that turns into exploitation. One of his big collab points with other people is the fact that he makes farms, and in 3L there was an entire plot point around how he kept giving people things, and all of those people individually agreed because he kept giving everyone things, he was on nobody's side, so, you couldn't really betray him, could you? The Demon therefore is a character who is determined not to be used or exploited in any way. He hoards his wealth like a dragon, makes pacts and bargains that only benefit him, like a demon, and his eye is always watching for a knife in the dark [don't think too hard about Tanguish taking knife lessons]. The man has, to put it bluntly, trust issues. So his design echoes that idea of a monstrous person so busy armoring himself he's forgotten how to connect with people. Bright golden eyes, impenetrable scales, armor and tools disproportionately strong compared to what he should ever be expected to use them for. He's daring someone to betray him, so he can be justified in destroying them for it.

I'm trying to think of other characters that've popped up.

Evil Sausage [I think the fandom calls him Bratwurst??] is mostly just a parody of some of his appearances in Empires. I liked how linked he was to Xornoth, so I imagine the shadow that makes his elytra wings is what's left of his union with Xornoth the demon.

Hels!Watcher Grian is both a reference and a handwave at the fact that Grian is an instigator. It makes sense that a fear, or mirror, for that would be someone who refuses to interact with the world, or maybe wants to but physically can't. Eye themes abound.

okay disclaimer that I've never watched the Chobits anime and I've only read the manga. I dunno if they changed any important details but I doubt they changed anything too major (maybe I should check the anime out at some point?)

Usually I like to format my essays in a coherent post but whatever. That's too hard rn. I'm just going to write about it in no particular order with no screencaps of the manga to prove my point you guys are just gonna have to take my word for it

I think it's SO funny that like. The huge dilemma at the end centered around android facial recognition. Like yes this series was written like 20 years ago and yeah it was writing about a time that's basically our present day, and technology has advanced impossibly fast that even their imagined cutting-edge technology looks horribly outdated at this point.

Without the ability to recognize each other, we will only ever be objects. When a robot can recognize your face, only then can love ever be possible. Hideki, did you know you just opened up a whole new world of data scraping and targeted advertising in your universe?

I don't really blame CLAMP though. I think it was never really about robots as technology but rather robots as a reflection of humanity. Like Minoru, who built a Persocom modeled after his sister who passed away in order to cope with his grief, like the baker who loved his old Persocom so much he married her... it's a story dreaming about human connection, how we're always longing for relationships.

Mixed feelings about Chi's backstory with Freya Ichiro and Chitose. On one hand it's very touching that these two scientists just straight up built their own daughters, and naturally they would build their daughters with the ability to love, and it REALLY feels in character (where the character is the field of computer science) and they would forget about biases in the computer's collected data (daily experiences of their robot daughters) that Freya would accidentally fall in love with Ichiro. That's so plausible it hurts. I also think it's mildly funny/heartbreaking that Freya's grief made her fucking shut down like here's that weird intersection between technology and personhood of androids like girl what!! you're like oh no my android is shutting down because of an endlessly recursive loop... ok then close the loop??? edit your daughter's code??? You are literally the only doctors for her in the world? you're just going to let her die like this?????

By the way I don't know if I'm using the correct names for everyone but I'm sure you can figure out who I'm talking about based on context anon

While I think that ^^^ whole thing is sad but also hilarious in a kind of narmy way, I do think that Minoru and the baker's story were excellently executed and are genuinely heartbreaking. The baker's story most of all. I cry every time I read the part where the press is harassing him and asking him about his dead wife and he goes "Stop it. Stop referring to her as 'my wife' or 'my android'. She had a name, and it was Yumi." That was sooo good bestie I go insane every single time... like that IS so terribly realistic, like you can say it's a metaphor for dementia where the person you love can no longer remember who you are, or who they are for that matter, but it's also such a real facet of technological decay where eventually... no matter how much you love a feature, or a machine, or an app, or a whatever... these are all things that are built and maintained by others. And one day that maintenance will stop. And one day it'll go down forever.

Minoru's story too... when Yuzuki (Yukari? I forgor :skull:) tries to hack into the government database by herself and almost gets shut down he gets really mad at her and she goes "sorry I know I'm supposed to be your dead sister and you would be super heartbroken if i died again I'll be more careful" and he goes "no man like yeah you did start off as a horrible coping mechanism but you're a new person now, with your own life experiences and not just a copy of my sister, you matter to me because you're you, not because you're a replacement for someone"

I think that's a theme that comes up a lot, actually. I think this series is meant to address the fear that technology will replace humans not only in terms of jobs and stuff, but even in terms of human connection and affection. Why love me when you can love your perfect android wife who will never argue back? And I think the answer that the series provides is, is that really the horrible future you think it is? Because the truth is that humans are capable of love, capable of so much love... we love and we lose and we love again, we pack bond with just about anything out there... is that really such a horrible thing?

Conceptually I think it's interesting, but once again, I feel like CLAMP's vision failed to accurately account for how technology actually is in real life. The amount of data harvesting that needs to be done, likely unconsensually, is insane, and probably renders this whole operation deeply unethical on a level that they didn't even consider. Yeah I think it's great that we can love robots and that we can make robots that love us back. Not in our capitalist hellscape though.

I haven't read it recently, but I don't think there was ever a point that I felt like the pacing of the story was bad. Yeah, there are a ton of detours and side stories, but they all felt very relevant to the main story.

I know it's like. Chi's story or whatever. But also it feels like Hideki is also sidelined sometimes. It sometimes feels like he was just a necessary component to get this story to work, and without Chi he isn't anything (he's just ken kind of vibe). He's never brought up in CLAMP's other stories while Chi is (multiple times, even! TRC and Kobato I believe), even though the Chobits story is from his perspective. i dunno lol

I also think the art of Chobits is gorgeous. Among CLAMP's works I think it's probably second place, after Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (thought I might be forgetting some; it's not like I have a definitive ranking LOL) and tied with Angelic Layer

Mallek Lazy Day HCs

Honestly, I don't think Mallek is very good at the "lazy" part. Speaking not only as a long time appreciater of time bound charaters, but also as a time bound myself: it's an aspect that tends to keep you moving (esp for rouges of time, which is my hc for Mallek. I see this as one aspect of his restlessness and impulsivity).

So: netflix and chill WILL turn into netflix and tinker, and also leave the room for that one thing that he can cannabalize into this project, and oh hey did he ever show you his new PC? Just arrived, want to savor the peelies with him? Oh you want to relax? Want to go down to his secret place? Maybe he should bring his can of spray paint, just in case....

I think it would actually be good for him to learn to slow down and learn how to like. Relax. Not make every little thing into some grand scheme.

A good place to start with him would be people watching I think! This is a secret headcanon I have (but have written, secretly, into all of my fics): I think Mallek is probably a pretty terrible judge of character when the person is more than text on a screen. I mean, he thought MSPAR of all people was a robot.

Besides the fact that this might be a good place for Mallek to start learning how to slow down, I think it would also be good for him to get outside of his head a bit. I see Mallek as a somewhat egocentric character (not as in like, self centered or narcissistic; simply lacking a little empathy and world view/experience), so listning to MSPAR spin tales of these trolls might inspire him to think a little bit harder as other trolls as less of a backdrop for his world and more like. You know. Individual people. Which will be a great skill for him to have as an information specialist.

On that note: I like the idea of Mallek having some kind of spy/reconaissance sort of roll once he leaves to fight in the troll space war. When I tell you I went feral at the sight of the cowboy Copia photo from one of the recent rituals, I truly mean it. Your boy was here hooting and hollering like straight men do at football (calm down straight men reading this, it's a joke. A funny haha). Anyway, I know very little about cowboys and the only cowboy media I've consumed are that Horrible Histories song about cowboys and that one episode of Doctor Who where the Eleventh Doctor, Amy, and Rory went to that town in the wild west or smth and there were cowboys and an alien dude and a robot man trying to kill the alien. So these headcanons may not be very good but I'll do my best!! As such, this will be laid out differently to my usual headcanons because I don't really have any cowboy headcanons? It's mostly my thoughts so sorry about that aslidNZ

𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐨 gives me... maybe sheriff vibes? I think in cowboy times (is that what we call them? I'm full of sugar rn so my brain is going faster than me) Primo would be the town sheriff. He wears that star badge with pride, has a beautiful Clydesdale horse that he rides on during his rounds through the town, and his fellow cowghouls are never far behind on their own horses.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨 is kind of like an urban legend. He's almost like a specter, always silent and never staying long enough to be noticed by a larger group of people. People think he doesn't even exist at first, telling exaggerated tales that make him out to be a terrifying being that haunts the town. In reality, he's the sheriff's brother and he just passes through to pay Primo brief visits and check that he's not pushing himself too hard in his old age. It's when Primo retires that he becomes a permanent fixture in the town and serves as like a deputy sheriff.

𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐳𝐨 is the cowboy that lives at the edge of town and is also the best paying customer in the tavern. He has a great many admirers and has seduced a number of the townsfolk to the point where he'd get chased out of town if his oldest brother wasn't the sheriff. His nickname is the Casanova Cowboy. He also has a little rose brooch on his jacket and does this little sleight of hand magic trick thing where if he's interested in someone he'll go up to them and make a rose "magically" appear from behind their ear before tucking it into their shirt and pressing a kiss to the back of their hand.

𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚 is a cowboy that the townsfolk don't know all that much about. He's much newer to the town than the others and as such there are many rumours about him but nobody has been able to distinguish between fact and fiction when it comes to him. He has his own little group of cowghouls that accompany him on errands. He's also been known to catch rats for the townsfolk and raises them as pets until either they die or someone wants to buy one off him as a pet for their children. Aside from that, the only thing people actually know about him is his reputation for being endlessly kind with a nervous disposition.

"I have read about love a thousand times over in a thousand different stories, and it never looks like me." hella even as I'm simply writing that line out I'm crying fucking again because of it. It's hard for me to write this rn because I keep crying about it. Kanuts thoughts on how when he was young he felt better than the rest not to be so caught up in feelings like that but as he got older he felt lonely. Kanut at 14 years old not wanting to come to any conclusions because he just assumed he's a late bloomer, he'll start feeling that way soon, maybe it was his family that made him so loveless. When I was younger I didn't really know why but, I'd get angry when stories turned friends into lovers because they wanted to be "something more". That stupid fucking line ruined a lot for me, it turned everything I did into something that wasn't enough. It really fucked over my irl relationships because if they were the opposite sex or queer I'd get paranoia that that's what they'd want from me, when all I wanted was a friend. I feel something else, I do not want something more.

My representation often comes from robots, deities and god things and inhuman creatures that don't feel anything in the first place. Side characters not written to have any partners. Distant and rude characters often coded as autistic because god forbid any autistic people who want to have romantic partners. The representation on purpose came in "I never felt that way and it made me feel broken" but just that... that small part about Kanut feeling high and mighty about it until it got lonely was so fucking personal. It's honestly a really silly thing to think, but that thought was so private to me I didn't think anyone else shared it, or thought that way. No representation I've seen ever had that.
